Microsoft Translator for Negative User Reviews

Great and then Bad...It was great for a few months while I had it and then for some reason, while translating in Safari, it would get to 16% and then stop, nothing would be translated. I can’t do anything to reset it either. It was helpful while I had it but now it’s literally not doing what its purpose is. It won’t translate anything because it gets stuck at 16% and nothing is in my language. Hopefully this gets fixed but I will delete the app and use Google Translate from now on until I come back and see if this is fixed..Version: 3.2.17

What a shameStarted off with it on my iPad Pro, everything worked fine, I couldn’t have been happier, then after a couple of weeks the sound became quieter and quieter, I thought it was my iPad and did all the usual checks, but to no avail, the sound otherwise was fine, just the app, so I have uninstalled it hoping for a better result on a new install and the result was.......just the same, so I’ve uninstalled again, pity it was a great app when it worked!.Version: 3.2.2

Doesn't work offlineChose this because has capability to translate web pages within Safari — though often misses sections of page. Handy list of common phrases, though some are incorrect (e.g. German vielen dank instead of danke). Has option to download language packs, but can only select English to English translation unless you're online. Numerous other bugs and atrocious interface..Version: 3.0.4

Not good for CantoneseFirstly the play buttons don’t work while autotranslating conversations. If they are not available, they should be greyed out. More importantly I have tried to use the Cantonese translation as I am currently learning, but it’s completely useless. It can understand and translate a few spoken phrases into English (my my wife is a native speaker), but simply cannot translate English into Cantonese..Version: 23.3.2

New updateDo not like the new update.Version: 23.3.1

Just do it like beforeThis version is garbage.Version: 23.3.1

Downgrade in typing interfaceThe UI is much more cumbersome for typed translations now. I can’t find an easy direction change button, which is one of the most critical features when traveling. I read words in a foreign language and want to look them up. Later, I want to say something and look up the word in my native language. Ideally, I’d like to be able to easily toggle directions, even if text was already entered… for example, it’s set English to Spanish, but I accidentally type a Spanish phrase. I’d like to be able to reverse directions with one button and not have to retype the phrase..Version: 23.3.2

Revamp reviewI find the app hard to operate since the update. I liked the previous set up a lot better. It was a lot easier to navigate and understand.Version: 23.2.1

Sub optimal user experienceI want to like it but there are some poor aspects of using, eg switching your 2 languages and which one you're inputting..Version: 23.3.2

Issue with writing Chinese charactersI’ve been using this for a long time and have found it very useful until recently when I discovered I couldn’t write Chinese characters at all as every stroke I made on the screen just disappeared so I couldn’t form any words! Trying to translate Chinese to English.. what gives?!.Version: 23.3.2

Microsoft ruined the appAs of the new update in April 2023 the offline use feature was removed rendering the app useless without access to the internet. Current rating: 0 out of 5 stars Previous rating: 5 out of 5 stars.Version: 23.3.2

Latest Update is a messWhat was a fabulous app is ruined by this recent update. Shameful Apple. The previous User Interface also provided alternate translations based on whether it is a verb, adverb, noun, adjective etc and colloquial factors. It was purely brilliant - this latest version is a pale imitation. Please make the alternate translation facility available again. If not I’ll seriously consider using another app. Furthermore, the star ratings are only out of four not five because you can’t give a zero star rating and must give at least one star - so everyone gets one!.Version: 23.3.2

Too soonI’m a new user, so I don’t feel qualified to objectively rate this app. I’m still doing comparisons with Google Translate..Version: 3.0.7

Latest update has ruined a once good translatorThe latest update to ver 23.2.1 has ruined a once good translator. Can no longer copy text and interface is very cumbersome. Roll back to previous version would be so much better.Version: 23.2.1

A terrible updateThis was once the best translation app available. It’s now slow and lost features making it practically unusable. Please add the legacy app back to the App Store or restore this one to the previous version. Did the people who made this app even use the previous version or use translation apps regularly?? I can’t imagine the intention of the update was to alienate existing users and push them away to try other apps - that’s what it did for me..Version: 23.3.1

HelpThis app was amazing it had voice audio so I could hear how it was pronounced and was very useful but now every time I try to translate something it says “translate request error” I’ve tried to put a different language different words anything but nothing works it just continually says that so I can’t use the app anymore. I am also having a very hard time finding someone I can contact about this to help me so if someone could reach out that would be very helpful thank you.Version: 23.3.2

Camera feature doesn’t work anymoreThis was my go to translator app because I was able to take a picture and have it translated for me. But recently it stopped working. I always translated Spanish to English because my husband’s family all speak Spanish because they’re from Ecuador. It was a great way for me to translate messages. But now when I click on Spanish to English and take a picture it goes back to English translating English which obviously does me no good. I’ve uninstalled it and reinstalled it I even tried to put Spanish to Spanish just to see what it would do and it goes back to English. So they get one star for me until they fix the camera because that’s the only way I can use the translator.Version: 3.2.4

Why the awful update? This was a perfect app, why did you ruin it??.Version: 23.3.2

NO NO NO NO!! What have you done?!?Like many other posts in the last 24 hours… you have ruined what was a great app, user friendly and simple. Why oh why have you changed this app so now to copy and paste I get it in two languages with the names of the languages before the translation, from example; Spanish: ¡Has arruinado esta aplicación!English: You’ve ruined this app! Please change it back.. it takes twice as long as before to do anything and to add to that saves conversations, so takes up memory on the phone. I need to move to another app, as I believe many will after this disastrous update!!!.Version: 23.2.2

Trash New update and UX is harder to use than previous versionI thoroughly dislike this new update they made 9 months ago. The app is actually harder to use and less seamless than it was before. The app no longer translates as you type and If you accidentally mistype a word or sentence, you have to rewrite the entire thing over again! Switching between languages is actually more difficult and it no longer gives you similar words/ multiple translations for the same word. Some default translations provided aren’t what is used in conversations, so the feature that showed multiple ways of saying a word was actually really useful. You also can’t change the reading speed for translated text anymore. These were not issues in the previous version. How can you call it a new and improved version when it’s more trash than the last?? I used to love this app but it’s gone completely downhill. They just removed all the features that made it awesome to use. I’m extremely disappointed and am deleting it. Would not recommend this app anymore..Version: 23.3.2

Speech playback is messed upThe speech playback sounds like it’s being run at 100x speed. I don’t know how this didn’t get noticed by your QA..Version: 20.9.2.8

New updateNew update is trash. Super nice to have a section to see basics and greeting etc so cool, but having to delete every translation & the format compared to before sucks. Also when switching between 2 languages (ex Eng to German then wanting to keep the text just switch around German to Eng) & having to retire is annoying This app is so close to being the best one but not quite, not quite..Version: 23.3.2

Translations are way too fast. When listening to the translation, it’s way too fast and no option to slow it down..Version: 23.3.2

Total crap. Useless.I honestly cannot see how this has been getting good reviews. I’ve been in Japan for a month & trying to use this on & off. It rarely recognises any words for me when I use the camera function. Nine times out of ten, it will say ‘Hmm, can’t recognise that…’ etc. At first, I could at least type a few English words then show someone the Japanese translation but now it doesn’t even do that. It just cuts me off through typing & refuses to work. This app is rubbish. I had more luck downloading a different Japanese language app designed for learning the language that played audio snippets..Version: 22.10.2.2

Rubbish UpdateYou can't copied the translated text. On an pages and documents you could highlight text and select Share and one of the options would be translate. The translation would appear in a pop up window on the Web page or document. Now I have to select the text, select copy, open the translate app and paste in the text. What a lot of extra phaff when it worked so will before. Very disappointed with this update and if you haven't updated to this latest version don't bother. Edit - it appears the Share function will return in a later release. Why not include it and get it right in this release..Version: 23.2.1

Doesn't copy textI've been reading the previous reviews and it's true. You can't copy text with this app. Double tapping the word doesn't do anything. You have to press and hold, wait for the native copy, prompt. Then you must manually swipe to make the selection, then select copy. Horrible interface here which shows lack of thought for the end-user. Microsoft MUST implement a copy button like the leading search engine provider and pretty much everyone else who have a dedicated button to copy text for translation apps for iOS. 👎👎.Version: 3.2.9

Aaah why are changed ???I used you app all the time But now it a impossible The trad is not in the real time, it is be late then the real speaker and we can follow the conversation I don t care to see my language I only wanna see the traduction like before. And in a real time. How to come back to the last version before update? It s so complicated now and when you are in conversation you have not time..Version: 23.2.1

Updated interface UNUSABLEThe one thing bing translator had over google for me was Cantonese! It is so hard for us Cantonese speakers to find our language on the apps and bing was a godsend. Until they completed changed the interface and now it is so hard and unintuitive to use. So hard to simply paste the phrase I need translated or change the language inputs. Sometimes when I finally do figure it out, it won’t even translate. Please just revert back to what it was. What is this? I’m just trying to relearn my own language so I can talk to my family. Stop playing with stuff like this and just be efficient..Version: 23.3.2

Weak n Wack like a faulty seat beltUsed it on both my iPhones. It has consistently crapped out at critical times, even though I’ve downloaded dictionaries for off line use as I’m in China. Pretty embarrassing when with local person whose app is translating from Mandarin to English on the fly and this Translator app just stares at me like it’s frozen. Like I said I’ve put it on multiple devices so it’s not my hardware. Local pointed me to Google Translator.. even though Google blocked here in China, their app works! I’m switching..Version: 20.11.3.4

Need to add more languagesCan you add Punjabi language pls?.Version: 3.2.17

Update ruined the appThe latest update ruined the app. This was my go to app for conversing with my students that do not speak English. I would pull up the app start speaking into it and it would translate and automatically translate and play the translation aloud. Now it will translate but I have to click on a button to get the translation to play aloud and half the time it won’t play after I hit the button. I work with elementary school children that may not be able to read so the play back is the feature I need and when it doesn’t always work it makes the app useless. Will be finding a new translation app. No idea why they would think this update would be an upgrade..Version: 23.3.2

New version makes it harder to do what I wantI’m sure there are some good features of the new version of this app. Unfortunately, a feature I used seems to have disappeared. When doing a simple translation of text from one language to another, the ability to flip the languages round with one touch (eg to change from English to Chinese to translate from Chinese to English) isn’t there any more. Developers, please put it back!!! It just needs one small button between the two boxes which state the languages being translated. Simple stuff…..Version: 23.2.2

The app is it still working? It won’t let me translate at all..Version: 23.3.2

Needs landscape and split view on iPadI need this functionality to help support my Modern Greek language studies on the iPad; working in landscape with the ability to have the app side-by-side the main study app. Without this feature I most certainly use the app much less than I would otherwise do, due to the inconvenience and delay of having to reorientate the device and minimise the primary app that I’m using for my studies. I do prefer this app over others due to better privacy practices (very important!), good functionality and reliability of the translations. 3 stars as it is solid translation app, but it’s not yet the ideal productive tool i need to support my studies fully..Version: 22.10.2.2

Removed ability to save translation outside of the appUnfortunately this version has removed the ability to share/save the translation into own locations. Only saved within app. Pity. That was what I liked most about the app..Version: 23.2.1

Fake, fish translationsI was using this to translate Korean skin care/beauty site reviews into English. Scrolling through the reviews I keep seeing ‘it’s a great place to stay’ crop up. Initially I think it’s a weird translation of references to sleeping packs. Then I see a few ‘the staff were very friendly and helpful’. The following Korean sentence 이외에는 크게 아쉬운점 없었어요. 트러블 유발도 전혀 없고~ 여름에 써도 좋고 피부에는 잘 맞는편이네요 was translated as ‘the staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s a great place to stay’ Nope. It actually means ‘ Other than that, there was nothing unfortunate. There is no trouble at all~ It can be used in summer and it fits well with your skin’ so where on earth did Microsoft get their translation from. Funnily enough, it also translated 그렇다고 크게 불편하거나 한건 아님) 향은 쑥향인데 개인적으로 별로 좋아하지 않는 향이라.. ㅎㅎㅎㅎ as exactly the same ‘the staff were very friendly..’ etc rubbish. That sentence actually means ‘That doesn't mean it's very uncomfortable or not.) The scent is mugwort, but I don't like it personally.. Hahaha’ in English. Something fishy is going on eg adding fake praise to reviews. Too bad it sticks out like a sore thumb because it’s added fake ACCOMMODATION praise to a BEAUTY site. Would not recommend this app at all..Version: 20.6.3.24

Thai TranslationReally a difficult language to translate from or to. Because of the context of the structural conversational meanings and the semantics of Thai phrases things are often incorrectly interpreted. Anticipating with more use of ML, AI and Deep NMT for future translations I hope translations will be more accurate..Version: 3.2.5

Useful but limitedHaving the function to translate who web pages is inc edible useful, and in the main translates them correctly. However, it will only translate a single page so you’ll have to translate every single page if you’re navigating a website. While it can translate manually inputted text, the camera/picture function is absolutely dire! The translations are incomprehensible to the extent that you can’t even choose one single word to try and deduce meaning and more often than not will simply repeat the same word over and over again. Google translate is marvellous and will even take the different grammatical structures in to account and will therefore, will give you a grammatically correct sentence, rather then simply translating word for word - which would have been at least the minimum expectation of Microsoft Translator..Version: 3.2.19

New update is horrible. The old format was simple and easy to use, now it’s confusing and honestly terrible..Version: 23.3.1

The update killed itOnce again Microsoft can’t leave a good thing alone. The most recent update took away all the best features, like being able to copy/paste and especially, especially the split screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTH?!? I also noticed the font size on the translations, especially for language like Hindi or Korean, is smaller makes the translation very hard to users to read. I depended on this app when traveling through Italy, India, and Greece and have used it religiously for years now. It took away all the stress of being stranded in areas where little English was spoken. I needed it when I found myself in the emergency room in Croatia, and had no one to help me explain my problem and fill out the paperwork. I would have been lost without it. The split screen is so helpful when shopping or even renting a car. I’m sick to have to delete it and hopefully find something similar. Didn’t you all do any user research before you updated???.Version: 23.3.2

Don't like the new versionThe new version is too difficult to use, there are so many bugs, can I use the old version back?.Version: 23.3.2

Update has ruined this appThe new update has ruined this app, not only is it now more complicated they have taken a backward step and removed many languages from the presenter mode options and for some reason thought it more important to include a large number of different English and Spanish dialects. Used to be so pleased with this app and we used presenter mode every week, by removing languages from conversation mode Microsoft has now rendered the app useless to us, so disappointing this is not progress… why change what was not broken? The old version was far 5 stars, the new version is rubbish, please reinstate the languages you have removed.Version: 23.3.1

Update is awful!I have been using this app and it’s been great for someone with a hearing loss but now it’s awful! The screen layout is terrible and the wording layout is awful to read. Previous you could just do English-English and see the whole page and keep it to read later. The new version is absolutely awful for accessibility for using it for captions. Please revert back to the original style..Version: 23.3.1

New ruined UIThe latest ‘update’ has indeed completely revamped the user interface, and made it an incomprehensible jumble. The menus and functionalities are bewildering and opaque. Congratulations MS, just like you did to MS Word and Excel, you wrecked your app with ‘improvements’. I’ll be deleting this app..Version: 23.2.1

Copy & PasteAfter the last update the option to copy and paste the translated text is gone? Says the updated version 23.2.2 was released 19 hours ago..Version: 23.2.2

Used to love thisI really liked this translator and used it all the time. It was easy to use and fairly accurate. But… The most recent version had BIG changes which now it is much more difficult to use and has caused me a lot of frustration. Particularly the speech recognition part…the prior version required you to chose what language you were speaking, so it “knew” which language to detect. Now, it has auto recognition which doesn’t seem to work well. It used to recognize what I was saying in my non-native language, but it does not do well with it now. This “improvement” is not an improvement and I will have to find a different app for my needs now. I’m very diss appointed..Version: 23.3.1

Doesn’t translate websitesUsed to be a really good app on a phone. It would be useful at translating websites. Now there is no option for it. Go back to your old platform. There is a need to be able to translate in many dimensions..Version: 23.3.2

Good enoughThe translations are pretty accurate but the problem is in the interface. It’s not convenient because it requires several clicks to view pronunciation (essential for languages such as Chinese) and to show the translation on full screen. Also, every single translation is automatically saved, so you have to go through and manually delete them all individually, which is time consuming and also requires several clicks for each one. All in all it’s ok if you’re only using it occasionally..Version: 23.3.2

New updateHave been using it for more than 3 years, the new update is so complicated and useless. Now delete it.Version: 23.3.1

Latest update is brokenNot sure what you guys did in the latest update but the picture translation option is very broken. You can’t translate a saved image or take a picture for translation..Version: 3.2.10

Mr Peter HerberthThe new Microsoft Translator App is very poor in comparison to the previous version. Not only has copy and paste been removed, so has also the ability to toggle back and forth between two languages and the option to hear slower and precise pronunciation, so critical to learners of a new language. Whoever designed the new App needs to restore the old version. Whatever made them think that this new version is better? It most definitely is NOT!! Listen to your customers and not to the dollars you get paid to make up some new-fangled inferior rubbish..Version: 23.2.2

J’aimerais mieux l’ancienne méthodeBonjour depuis la nouvelle version je n’ai pas comme il fonctionne maintenant. Et il était très efficace dans les applications maintenant il ne traduit plus les applications. Alors avant je l’adorai avec 5 ⭐️ maintenant je lui mets un 2 ⭐️ parce que il ne traduit plus dans safari..Version: 23.3.2

Cannot change a translation languageI use different languages regularly. Now I have to start a new translation every single time I want to change a language. The old version was way better and easier, less hassle if you want to know an English word in multiple languages. Change it back please..Version: 23.3.2

No longer useful (March 2023)This app used to be quick and simple to use. The new UI and changes to features make getting a translation and copy/pasting so clunky. Also removed reserve translation. I relied on this app and it’s been so frustrating when I’ve tried to use it lately and can’t keep up with messages or conversations as a result of these changes. Please revert back to the previous version as there’s nothing worth keeping in this update..Version: 23.3.2

Laughably terrible appThis app is an abomination and an afront to modern language. I needed this app to translate some Russian and Ukrainian language books I'm selling online. I get it. Cyrillic alphabet is difficult to translate and hence why I downloaded this app, thinking it would help me facilitate that translation. Turns out I was just deluding myself. It flat out couldn't translate the Russian and Ukrainian text. So I tried to translate a German book. The app thought I was trying to translate French to English. French and German? Two very different languages. Okay, then I tried something very. Spanish. It can do Spanish right? Nope. The app thought I was trying to translate Italian to English. Seriously? At this point, I think Microsoft is playing a prank on me by releasing this laughably terrible app. I'll stick to Google Translate. It got the jobs I need done and with zero frustration..Version: 3.0.7

Update is horrible. Change it back! There was absolutely no need to update this once perfectly useful app. It’s now garbage. The newest update is so terribly confusing to use with most of the main features I downloaded it for now gone. Can’t even figure out how to download languages to use offline anymore - if that’s even still possible. What’s the point of this app if it can’t even do the basic things advertised?.Version: 23.3.2

Share shortcut doesn’t work, and photo translation needs Romaji optionThe whole reason I tried this app was to have the “share to translate” function that Google translate didn’t have, but it doesn’t work at all. It always says that I’m not connected to the internet, and the translation options aren’t even visible when you tap on the language spots (it’s just a blank screen that comes up, and if you select done, it goes to auto-detect and Spanish. I only have Japanese downloaded for offline use, and Spanish is still the only blind selection that comes up even on airplane mode). Additionally, there needs to be a way of checking the readings for the kanji for trying to learn the language, on the image itself. When I bring an image into the app itself to actually make the translation work, there’s no way to have the overlay show Romaji instead of the nonsense translation it puts over the text..Version: 3.2.14

The Korean wouldn’t work on picture translations...The picture translations from Korean to English weren’t working. I tried to translate parts of: a website, general web pages, and a book from Korean to English. However they just wouldn’t translate, most of the text was incomprehensible. Some parts were even showing strange things like 0’s in place of translations. The text to speech however worked great. It provided me with sources whenever I would copy and past the text onto the internet. I’m not really sure why it wouldn’t work on the picture translation function though. This was especially strange since the Spanish to English option worked just fine with this function. Please fix the picture translations from Korean to English. If it weren’t for this I would have rated this app much higher..Version: 21.1.3.0

Upgrade UselessThanks for the useless upgrade of March 06, 2023. You successfully ruined a good translator. Enter a word to translate and nothing happens. No translation appears. Deleted app, re download, same thing..Version: 23.2.2

Originally brilliant app on WPNot many people will know but in Windows Phone 8.1, the Microsoft translator app was absolutely the best. Instant camera translations (no photo needs to be taken/button pressrd) it simply worked seamlessly and better than anything out there . The entire app ran quicker as well on a much much weaker hardware. Offline mode was perfect as well (side note offline maps were great too on WP 8.1). Of course Microsoft app isn’t designed to work best on iPhone, but just saying that most people wouldn’t know how good that app was on WP 8.1.Version: 3.2.5

Rien était parfait mais…Je déteste la dernière mise à jour, pas du tout (friendly user) !.Version: 23.2.2

New layout is terribleNew layout isn't user friendly and the previous layout was more accurate and intuitive to use when translating, so I will find a different app to use.Version: 23.3.1

New update is a step backwardI loved this app until the most recent update, which completely changed the way it works. This was especially problematic for me as it happened in the middle of a trip for me. I had been using the app to communicate with people smoothly until it updated. We all ended up downloading Google translate instead, which I previously liked less. Please bring back auto detection and return to the more user friendly format..Version: 23.3.2

Used to be not bad, now it’s bad.New update basically killed quick translations to and from Chinese simplified. Now I cannot copy only the Chinese text in the translation. Instead, there is only the option to copy the Chinese text along with the pinyin and English, in addition to the useless labels of each..Version: 23.2.2

Froze when speaking out other participants’ outputHi there. I am Deaf and uses this for my chats with colleagues at work. My co-worker have the app installed and I have it installed on my iPad. Two problems that you need to note: 1) Fix the rotation issue so I can read it easily on the iPad. It wouldn’t rotate AT ALL. 2) My co-worker turned on “auto-play messages” so her iPhone will read out loud when I send a message. She also have the “Presentator mode” turned on as well — so she don’t have to press and hold the microphone button. It sure did read out loud pretty good, but the problem is that her app’s microphone froze for maybe 1 to 2 minutes unless I trigger an action like open keyboard and then close keyboard and then click on the Microphone again. It became a bit annoying and would be perfect if these issues are fixed! Thank you!.Version: 3.2.5

Works Well Mostly But…I’ve been trying this app out by using it to translate Vietnamese, a language that I know well, to see its vocabulary and expression fluency. It works very good mostly, but I noticed that it censors the word “dog” in Vietnamese! Why???? Sure it can be used as a profanity but that certainly depends on context. “Chó” in general is a very common word which literally means “dog”, there’s no other words that can replace it. I don’t know if there are other bugs like that in other languages, which makes me kind of distrust the app. Also, please make it easier to delete previous translations. It should be as simple as a side swipe instead of having to click on it then click delete all the time, which is rather user unfriendly. Other than that, I love the way the translations pronounced. Much less robotic than google translate..Version: 23.3.2

Allow time for app to take in the language before the voice startsVery frustrating! When I’m trying to translate someone who talks slowly or takes a few seconds to talk between each sentences, the app voice takes over Give the option for the app to continue to listen and then once I’ve finished wanting to translate a speech then I just need to tap a button and then it starts to translate.Version: 22.10.2.2

Great on iPhone, just crashes on WatchThis is one of the best translators I have found on the iPhone, better than most paid ones! Sadly it is broken on Apple Watch (series 3 anyway). Stuck on Spanish and crashed when you ask it to say something out loud. That’s a shame and I hope Microsoft take another look at it. 5 star without that issue..Version: 3.0.8

The service is good but this app needs workEdit: this app has got better and worse. The problems with dark mode have been fixed. However, the big issue now is that this service has become very unreliable. The conversation is regularly ended prematurely by the server. To be clear, the app is not crashing, my browser (on which I also join) is not crashing. The meeting is being ended at the server side. It has got much worse over the last 6 months. In today's 2 hour meeting it ended the meeting 4 times. Each time I had to start a new session. I use Microsoft Translator on my desktop regularly and it’s great. However, this app has a few flaws. Firstly, with my iPad in dark mode it is extremely hard to see the text I type. Next, the app has not been written to function side-by-side with another app on an iPad. That feature was introduced years ago. Finally, and most significantly, if you temporarily toggle into another app this app closes the conversation and you lose everything. I’m on an M1-powered iPad Pro. This is a supercomputer. This app shouldn’t have any memory problems on such a device, it should be able to stay open and in the conversation in the background while I toggle to another app..Version: 23.3.2

New formatI hate saying this as I used to love this translator. But I recommend Google translate. Also the person that reads and responds to these messages doesn’t read the messages or doesn’t understand my issue with the application. I’m deleting the app from my phone. The new format of the app is very frustrating. Specifically when copying text, it pastes in both languages. So if you are using it for text messages, you have to delete one entire translation as well as the name of the language that you are translating. Please fix this or I will just move to another application. Despite the fact that your app has a better translation of the language that I’m learning and using. Thanks.Version: 23.3.2

Was decent till updateThis was a decent app, the dialect wasn’t great it was translating more of a European style Spanish into South American Spanish which made the wording a little confusing but it still was good enough to understand what I was trying to say. Now with the new user interface there are less options it’s very confusing because it won’t automatically play what you said you literally have to stop the Translator and hit the play button for it to actually play what you saidWhich is a major problem when for example you’re driving and your hands have to be on the steering wheel not pressing buttons on the phone. Bring back the old one until you get the new one properly tested and vetted, this is just a shame that you’re trying to stick and untested alpha on people guess I’ll just go and find another app..Version: 23.2.1

No Esperanto? You have Klingon, which is awesome, but not Esperanto, the international language?.Version: 3.0.7

What is the matter at Microsoft??This app was amazing. You “upgraded” it. You have received consistent awful reviews since your “upgrade”. Everyone thinks the app is now useless and numerous users have asked you to revert to the previous version. These requests have gone ignored since March. Seven months!! Stop ignoring (previous) users of your app and BRING BACK THE PRE-MARCH version. In summation, your “update/upgrade” is useless, no one likes it/finds it useful so revert back to the version pre-March and we will all be happy. Simple. Google translate is now infinitely superior. Sort it out, back down and revert!.Version: 23.3.2

Translator can not contact internetDear Microsoft Translator Support Team, I hope you are doing well. My name is SARMAD, and I am writing to inform you about an issue I have been having with the Microsoft Translator application ( version 23.3.2) on my iPhone SE 2022 (iOS version 17.1.1). I am currently using the latest iOS version and have ensured I have installed the most up-to-date version of the Microsoft Translator app on my iPhone. However, when attempting to use the application to translate speech, I encountered an error message stating, "Cannot translate speech. Please check your network connection and try again." Even though my internet connection is working fine. I have confirmed that my network connection is stable, and this issue persists despite having the latest software updates. Interestingly, I do not encounter the same problem when using the Microsoft Translator app on my iPad. I would greatly appreciate it if you could investigate and address this issue at your earliest convenience. The functionality of the Microsoft Translator app is crucial to my language translation needs, and resolving this problem would greatly enhance my user experience. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need any more information or details about my device and setup. I'm looking forward to your help in resolving this situation. Thank you for your time and attention. Best regards, SARMAD.Version: 23.3.2

Teacher 🇨🇦Used to be a great app, favourite translator app to use for my students and myself. The updates have made it very counter-intuitive. And there’s no copy and paste function for translation of emails or other documents. This app is destined for deletion..Version: 23.2.1

GoodNot the way expected. But okay.Version: 3.0.4

FreezesWorked great before, suddenly unusable. Thanks Microsoft.Version: 3.2.10

Ruined UIBitterly disappointing when an app that used to work so well gets the dreaded update and becomes incomprehensible and a pain to use. Just like you have made excel much slower to use through introducing new ways in which to do simple things in a much slower manner. Could the next update please uninstall this version and reinstall the old version? App deleted and switching to a competitor.Version: 23.2.1

Still broken UX for translating imagesNot sure why they don’t fix this. It’s been over a year and I’ve reported this bug several times. Repro: take screenshot > tap on preview image (iPhone X) > share > Microsoft translator > hangs trying to translate. Since it hangs, there’s an option to tap to open the app, but if you do, it takes you to the camera mode! You still have to tap on images > choose album > look for image > select > translate. This is the worst UX for translating an image. Why not just open to translate? Why not swipe sideways to toggle through photo album? Why the hang when taping the share to ms translator? Why? Why? Why???? Are there any product designers actually working in this team? This is unacceptable. Great technology, but lousy execution and UX. No dedication or love from the product builders..Version: 3.2.5

Chinese input method issueWhen inputing Chinese words, it will fail to continue after choosing some characters..Version: 23.3.2

Why?!!!The previous version was leaps and bounds more functional than this “beta-feeling” update. The now missing Safari extension and 280 character copy limit makes the update useless when trying to read translated pages. Not sure what the objective of this update was, but sadly it went in the wrong direction of progress. I wish I knew ahead of time not to complete the update. Assuming we won’t be getting the prior version’s functionality back, I’m now forced to just bookmark the Google Translate site and copy/paste the URL there for a full page translation as an alternative since Apple’s native extension is still rather limited in available languages..Version: 23.3.1

Missing old conversation featureMicrosoft translate has been my go to app for years for work in the medical field I used the conversation feature all the time and liked the fact it automatically spoke out the reply. Since the new update this has become a lot more fiddly and while it is good it automatically translates the conversation in both languages I find it harder to get the audible section to work reliably.Version: 23.3.2

Poor UpdateWhat happened to this app? It was beautiful, intuitive, and user-friendly. Now it’s unappealing, counterintuitive, and incredibly frustrating to use. I think I see what you were trying to do, but it didn’t work..Version: 23.2.2

Was five stars - what happened? It’s less than a week since the new interface has rolled out and all I can ask is: why change something that was so good? A large number of features seem to be lost (like manually editing a dictated phrase that has been incorrectly transcribed or you wish simply to adapt); intuitive use has gone out the window; every translation is kept in a screen-hogging permanent scroll whether you want them or not Update on this point - and thanks for developer feedback on this - you can delete them by switching the specific entry to full-screen mode but why not simply apply the near-standard “swipe left” to delete an entry? Innovation means doing something different and useful. The developers seem to have forgotten the second part of this..Version: 23.3.1

Useless nowI use to be able quickly open this app, type something in English, hit the share button, and it would send the translation to a message or I could copy it. Now you need a PhD in UX and have to click multiple times to do the same thing, and it doesn’t even support the most basic use that most people use this for. Use another app until they bring back what actually worked. Oh and I’ve lost count how many times you click the little keyboard icon where the Enter button should be that actually closes the input and you lose everything you just wrote. They butchered such a great app in the big update I will never use this garbage again..Version: 23.3.2

Updated is not betterSince the update I no longer understand how to do split screen conversations. The way the app was before was great and looked much better. Now it is just confusing. Please let me know how I can get the split screen function where you have different languages showing to each speaker at the top and the bottom of the screen..Version: 23.3.2

No longer impressedI’ve used and loved this ap for about 5 yr. Loved that it worked offline. With the latest update it not only has a totally different look but it no longer works offline..not impressed when I now have to use data or it doesn’t work at all when out of cell range ☹️☹️☹️.Version: 23.3.2

Latest updateWas brilliant until the latest update, after 15 minutes of trying to use and switching ( the switch button has disappeared) plus wanted you to choose a name and turn blue tooth on so chat could be set up …… don’t want chat thanks just a great translator tool that this USED to be ….. so Deleted and use google translate , so frustrating when updates totally change apps and seem to delete things you use every day.Version: 23.2.2

Bring back previous version. This app updated early March 2023. The new version is completely different and sadly just not as neat, simple and straightforward as the previous version. You can’t even swap from French to English and vice versa. You have to swap from one to the other then type all over again. The previous version also had a dark theme and was much easier to view, the new version is cluttered and inelegant. I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed with an update in my life, I have now switched off automatic updates because of this. Google translate is now vastly superior..Version: 23.3.2

HATE the updateThis was my favorite app for translating. I prefer it to Google translate! However I absolutely hate this update. And will be switching back to Google. It may look more aesthetically pleasing, but it is far less practical. It does not translate as I type anymore. Now I have to hit “go” to see the translation. And it does not permit editing after that. I need to retype everything because I’m not able to edit the text I already translated. Moreover, when I hit “copy” it copies both the original language and the language it was translated into. That is an annoying feature. All I need is the translated phrase..Version: 23.3.2

New update is terribleThe new update is so bad. It is confusing. I don’t know why they changed the old version it was so much easier i would just click on app then I would translate now I don’t know what all the buttons do I try to go back but it just takes me onto a previous photo . It used to be my favourite but now it is terrible. I have changed to Google translate and it is much better revoked getting google translate instead of any others. If you read the most recent reviews you will see instead of them being 4 and 5 star they are now 1 and 2 star. When you go onto highest rating most of them are from a couple of years ago before the update. Please change it back to how it was then I will re-download it and delete Google translate..Version: 23.2.1

Issues with Some Languages, and Multiple MissingWhenever I translate to and from Hebrew (true example), the punctuation gets completely messed up. Oftentimes I’ll hit the double arrows button to translate the results back to English to check. Whenever this happens (and this issue has improved some over time with updates), if there was a period at the end, one magically appears at the beginning as well, and so on with question marks, exclamation points, etc. (though not with commas). Also, several words in both Hebrew and other languages aren’t recognized and make radical transformations, including both common and proper nouns. In one incident, I repeatedly tried to translate a sentence containing “Galilee” (a region in northern Israel), and when I checked, “Galilee” had become “the cylinder!” I tried over and over with the same results. These were not the only times there was a glitch in the system, leading me to distrust Microsoft Translator with languages other than the Romance Languages (Spanish, French, etc.), with which I encountered much less error..Version: 3.2.17

Crash in iphone 5cCrash translator english to vietnamese in iphone 5c.Version: 2.13

Don't rely on Mandarin PhrasebookI downloaded this app because I’m learning Cantonese and it's one of the few translators that support it. I’m really happy to see Microsoft recognizing Canto and making resources available for learners. That being said, I went through the mandarin phrase book out of curiosity, and there are many, MANY errors. For those familiar, it literally tells people to say “I don’t speak Chinese simplified,” which refers to a writing system not a spoken language. It goes on to suggest asking for a phone number by saying “how MUCH is your phone number” (你的电话号码是多少). There are also cases where the pinyin romanization does not match the characters above. Most of these errors wouldn’t make it impossible to be understood, but you’d definitely get laughed at. 1 star because although the translator seems fine, the phrase book is unexpectedly terrible and anyone who would actually need/use it would never be the wiser..Version: 22.5.1.1

New app looks great but missing old featuresLove the look of the new app. But now seems I can’t copy the translation to use in other apps. Had to find a replacement to use till this feature fixed..Version: 23.2.1

Do not like the new update!!!!Before the update I could run meetings smoothly and speak to my English language learner students easily. Now my students cannot just communicate with me quickly 😡. I get frustrated because it won’t just say what you say back you have to press buttons and it takes time to process before it repeats. Then you have to switch languages before the other person can speak. I work with k-5 students they don’t have a phone to connect with mine! I get where it is going and why it was done but I wish it was an add on and not a complete change. I got a lot of Gen Ed teachers and office admin on this app to help them with students and their parents now we are all disappointed. Too many steps 🤯.Version: 23.3.2

Limitations"The text exceeded the maximum length of 1000 characters. Please use shorter text." Frustrating app. Must be doing something right to rate 4.7 but not MY favourite 'go to'. Have deleted..Version: 3.2.19

Been using for years but the new update is garbageJust updated the app I don’t know what they did but it’s garbage now. This is also the first review I have ever done because it is that bad. Download something else..Version: 23.3.1

App crashesGreat app however crashes every time I go to use the verbal translator. A fix for this would increase my rating..Version: 2.13

Bring back the old app!I live in China and speak little Chinese. The old version of the app was fantastic and I used it everyday and it really made my life easier. The newly updated version is awful. You used to be able to easily select which bits of text to copy, it’s now a 3 step process to select text. You can no longer easily switch between the languages, you have to select another language as a go between to change languages around. You have to manually delete old translations and it’s another lengthy process. This means if you show your phone, people can see what your previous conversations were. I have more gripes with the update but I can’t be bothered explaining. I barley use the app now. Please bring back the old version, it was so much better 😭.Version: 23.3.2

The Imploding App!!!’This was my go to translator app, I raved about it, but I just received an update yesterday and it is absolute crap now. It’s not even the same app, everything is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! It’s not as easy to use now and I can’t copy and paste the translation like I used to. I used to be able to communicate with my friends by copying translated messages and texting them, amazing, but apparently that was too convenient and made way too much sense, so Microsoft, as usual, had to change everything and ruin a great piece of software, and why? Didn’t it take you guys a lot of time and money to build the previous version m? Anyway translations can no longer be copy/pasted now. Too add to the devastation the app used to have a split screen that you could just talk into your phone and it would translate it facing the other person, amazing idea, the best I’d ever seen, but Microsoft being Microsoft, had to change that too. Why?!?! I’m just glad I don’t drive a Microsoft car or the steering wheel would probably change from side to side annually. Just when you learn to use the software they change it. I don’t even know what this company is thinking anymore, not much, apparently. Honestly I think they just F stuff up to look busy and keep their jobs. I’m downloading my new translator app right now. Don’t even bother with this one. It’s a shadow of its former glory..Version: 23.3.1

Update is pathetic. Now clear history is removedThe developers who created the recent update really should be fired. The “clear history” is an essential tool from a privacy point of view, and now the feature is gone. I use this app to converse with real people in the real world, and now all of my previous conversations are available to view by anyone at a quick scroll. Why any developer would think that removing the “clear history” feature is an improvement i really don’t know. The app is also far more clunky to use since the update..Version: 23.3.2

Continuous: good! Else: BadI really like the new ability to tap the microphone and have it continuously translate, without it shutting off the microphone every time the speaker pauses. That said, the split screen option should also still be available, as it is not practical to explain to someone speaking a different language that they should download the app and initiate conversation mode on their own phone. It’s a good feature, but should be optional, not mandatory! Also, please add back in the ability to delete all history at once. I do not wish to individually delete hundreds of translated messages. [UPDATE: Devs say this will be added back in] Also, there should be a way to do one-way translations. Sometimes the app incorrectly hears Japanese language as English, and tries to translate it into Japanese!.Version: 23.3.2

Latest version designed to be “not used”I’ve used MSFT translator for at least 5 years and while not perfect, it offered simplicity and reliably with intuitive bidirectional translation from text and very simple translation of text in photos. Since updating from v22 to v23, I’ve quickly learned just how bad an APP. can be, and how important a method to get an older version back onto my iPhone truly is.. This latest version, v23, is user hostile, unintuitive, and completely undoes all the positive feelings I had for MSFT Translator. I have failed to translate typed text, test from photos, copy from a translation, and copy translated text from a photo.. the APP is now completely non-functional for me…but maybe I’m just … brain dead! Give us back the V22 UI … please !.Version: 23.2.2

Complete rubbishDon't bother still doesn't work offline, even if you downloaded the language pack it still won't work. Complains that you need to download the language pack. Way too difficult to use! Forget it.Version: 3.0.8

Avoid - Now unusableThis used to be an incredible app for translating text, phrases, even pictures – you could point the app’s camera at a sign, an information board or a menu and it would translate it for you. Truly, it was amazing Very typically, for Microsoft, they had a Jekyll and Hyde moment and flipped the app into something that is totally unusable. How can you take something is amazing and break it with one update? It’s what they’ve done so it is now best avoided. A tragedy.Version: 23.3.2

Updated to garbageI used this app exclusively when I lived in China because I had no access to Google. I recently deleted it because with its new quote improvements“ it has become virtually unuseable. It’s frequently either dumps all of the written work to translate or translate it back into the same language then I typed it in. Not very effective.Version: 23.3.2

Update is awful and takes away core functionality in an attempt to focus on “AI”Basic design is taken away from this update. It took me 5 minutes to figure out how to “enter” and actually translate from typing from english to another language (Cantonese). It’s pressing the return button twice apparently. The first time it just added a new line?! My whole reason for using this app instead of Google Translate is because it supports Cantonese and used to make it easy to copy and paste the translation so I can quickly text my parents back but now I can’t even do that. Long pressing on the phrase does nothing and all I can do is add it to favorites??? Super poor design and organization choices overcomplicated what used to be a super helpful and easy to load / use app on the go. Pls fix!!.Version: 23.2.1

BrokenApple Watch app is totally broken. Changing language on the watch does nothing, you now have to change language via the phone app. After translation pressing the icon for it to speak the result causes the app to crash back to the watches app menu. Overall a pretty poor effort, I’m guessing it’s due to iOS 11 and Watch OS 4 but even small developers have made their apps compatible so Microsoft really has no excuse. Edit: Looking at other reviews people have been having the same issues since at least May, so the problem is Microsoft not iOS 11 or Watch OS 4..Version: 3.0.7

I am disappointed with the upgrade.NEWS FLASH : I came back to see if they fixed the upgrade abomination. No they have not. So I use Chat GPT and it works. I can’t believe MS wrecked such a good app. I used app everyday multiple times per day to translate English into Chinese and I could write long involved Chinese paragraphs which I would check in Pleco and then revise etc. Even native Chinese told me it was very good. Then with the upgrade it is useless. I can’t write paragraphs or correct them. Back and forth between apps. It is just a total failure for me. It was the best. So unless I can find out how to get back to the good app then I will have to find something else. Very disappointed..Version: 23.3.2

When will you update this thing? It seems like you're doing absolutely nothing to make the experience of this app better. Why is it that I can use this app in landscape mode? Why can't I split screen? Why aren't transliteration for languages with different scripts (like Chinese) directly below the translation which having to swipe over like an idiot? And why do they take so long to show up?.Version: 3.2.13

New updateFound the new format confusing, with an extra screen that is not needed popping up when I tried to copy the Chinese characters I can no long copy the Chinese and paste into other Chinese apps to do shopping etc very disappointing as this is essential.Version: 23.2.1

New updated version a backward stepThe previous version was fantastic, better UX plus option to vary speed of audio of translated. This new version is just horrible No speed control option as was available in the last version makes this a BACKWARD update.Version: 23.3.1
