News Explorer for Positive User Reviews

Google NewsThis app has worked perfectly for me until last week when Google News has seized control of my searches listed under “Donald Trump”. The app still shows that is collecting items on Mr Trump, but clicking on an item takes me to a frozen Google News page which doesn’t include items on the subject I’m looking for. Perhaps the developer can check to see what is going on and I can give the app, the Stars it deserves. I’m pleased that the developer has looked into my problem. It appears to be a problem with Google news. The developer has provided me with a way to overcome it. Full marks with a speedy reply, I will reinstate the five stars..Version: 1.8.9

One of The Best RSS ReadersNews Explorer is a highly capable RSS reeder that utilizes iCloud sync and supports RSS, ATOM, JSON, and Twitter feeds. The application is responsive and looks good on all the supported platforms. Sync is pretty quick, though doesn’t offer the performance some competitors do by allowing a single instance to do the RSS fetching while the others just sync with iCloud. Article display is great with a variety of typography options to tweak it to your preference, while alternative views such as slideshows and a “timeline” view are nice additions. The app feels at home on iOS devices and has continued to get a bit quicker, more stable, and pleasant to use over time. One notable omission for a modern iOS app is shortcut support. I’d love to see the ability to use Shortcuts to filter articles by folder/feed/status and be able to do things like get their title, URL, and mark/unmark them as read. All in all, News Explorer is a really solid RSS app that’s available across all the Apple platforms. I’m not sure if it’s “the best” at any one aspect, but it’s easily one of the best contenders as an all-around RSS feed reader..Version: 1.11.2

Absolutely worth the priceI tried a couple of RSS readers and settled on this one. It took me a bit to configure the app to my liking, but after you get it set up it just works. The interface is customizable, articles are comfortable to read, and there’s no subscription. Your data just syncs with iCloud. The watch app is greatly appreciated too, it can show full article text and works well. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten more value out of an app, I use it every day and don’t regret it.Version: 1.10.2

Excellent app with OPML supportHave used this app for a couple of years now. When I needed assistance, they responded and had a fix with a few hours. Happy customer..Version: 1.9.10

RSS and Read LaterIt's great for managing and reading RSS feeds. I've also added my Instapaper RSS feed, so it's become my Read Later app as well, cutting down on the number of apps I have to use to consume news and information. I'm hoping for more color theme options in the future..Version: 1.9.8

Great RSS Reader, But How About Automatic Full TextDefinitely the best RSS client I’ve used. But can we please get automatic full text for articles? lire, another RSS application does this and it works well and without any user interaction. Whereas with News Explorer, you have to open the article and then click the icon in the toolbar. If this could be an option, that would be great thanks. Also, some images fail to appear/load while in full text/reader mode..Version: 1.8.14

The Best, By A Long, Long WayIve used many a reader, some really good, some not. But all of them annoyed me in one way or another. Not This one. (If you don’t want to read whole review, just buy the app, you won’t regret it). I was using Feedly with Reeder, pretty good, pretty annoying also. Now Feedly are asking for a subscription to add more feeds, not a chance. The app’s not good enough anyway, but now you want me to pay money to use something that annoys me?!? Nope. When I first saw this app, with the price tag, it put me off (why pay when so many free options?!). But I was getting so fed up with the others, I thought I’d give it a shot. And that’s when I realised why I’m paying, you pay for what you get & It’s worth every penny. I love it. Really easy (and nice) to use, looks great & you can customise the look to suit your taste. It seems quite simple at first glance, but simple and effective is always the best combo, and the developers absolutely nailed it (congrats!). Adding new feeds, reading, favouriting and sharing articles. So simple and genuinely enjoyable to use. I’ve already recommended this app to quite a few people and will continue to do so! It’s so good that I’ll be purchasing the desktop application also, which is more expensive than the mobile, but it’s worth it to me for 2 reasons....the developers deserve to be paid & I want the same ease of use on my laptop!! The only thing I don’t like about it, is the app icon!! For such a lovely app, the icon just doesn’t do it justice! Please make a nicer one devs!! Easy 5*. Would be 6* if the icon was different 😉.Version: 1.8.14

Excellent news readerThis app is pretty much the perfect news reader for me, I use it daily on iPad and iPhone. The UI is smooth and intuitive on both screen sizes, and syncing privately through iCloud is a great use of that service. I can’t think of a single thing that would make it better!.Version: 1.11.3

Great non-server solution for RSS readingThe reading experience of the app is quite good, but it is let down by an unreliable and opaque sync system. It seems I can never get this iOS version to accurately sync article status with the Mac version. I hope some further refinement will improve this, as this app seems the best option for getting away from a subscription-based server-side solution. *UPDATE*: Based on developer response and improved subsequent performance I have upgraded my rating. A few interface enhancements and beautification would push this to 5 stars..Version: 1.5.1

Simple yet customizableTried half a dozen rss apps on iOS and OS X, each one had some sort of dealbreaker issue while doing most things right. It comes down to personal preference on what works for you. This one is simple, customizable, has all the important features and functions, doesn’t try to upsell you for more features, and most importantly it renders text and images very well. One purchase covers your for iPad and iOS devices..Version: 1.10.2

Outstanding options. Suggestions —>1. Add ability to filter/save searches into “smart” folders 2. Add ability to tag. Ideally tagging a parent feed will pass on to child articles. 3. Add ability to add a single feed to multiple folders (Eg: WSJ:politics goes into Politics AND News folders). This will differentiate from all the other major RSS competitors. I’ve tried them all!.Version: 1.9.17

Excellent standalone RSS feed readerI was using the equally brilliant "Unread" app for RSS feed reading together with a Feedbin account for the syncing. But paying a subscription for Feedbin when I’m already paying for iCloud storage seems like a waste of money. Google searches for iCloud-enabled RSS readers eventually turned up this app, so I took a chance and bought it. I’m glad to report that it works very well and sync works perfectly. The reading experience is very good and has all the features I typically look for. I promptly cancelled Feedbin and feel confident that this app will meet my needs just as well, for a fraction of the cost. The iPad Pro and iPhone are my main computers so I don’t need the Mac app at the moment but if you do, it’s apparently excellent as well..Version: 1.8.2

Not “another” news appClean interface, fast response, great design. I was using the macOS app first and loved it so much I wanted to try this app and am not disappointed. Maybe get a “trial” going for people, because no doubt they’ll purchase! 👏🏽👏🏽🤙🏽.Version: 1.11.2

Great AppThis is by far the best news app I have used throughout the years. I highly recommend it to any news junkie no matter the type news you enjoy. Only draw back is no web client or windows 10 app..Version: 1.9.7

Really like the new updateThe new release with mastodon support is so slick. iCloud sync seems faster as well. It’s so nice to see an update. This app has held my news and blogs and other rss stuff for years. Now with mastodon support I can take rss feeds for accounts I want. Nice!.Version: 1.20

Nice UILove the buttons added to the end of article lists. It’s a little thing, but saves having to reach to the top of the screen..Version: 1.9.4

Perfect, private RSSGreat sync to multiple devices over iCloud, while the interface lets you quickly get through articles..Version: 1.9.17

This is a fantastic RSS readerNo subscription required, and it keeps getting every feature I could want. This is truly a well supported app. Two niggles: the starred, all, and unread items in the sidebar and bottom of the screen confuse me because you can get in odd stated (ie “unread starred items” and that’s usually not what I want. Also: I really dislike the iOS icon. The big blurred N grates in my home screen..Version: 1.9

Excellent RSS news readerExcellent RSS news reader, I have been using this application for a long time now and it suits my needs perfectly. Developer keeps the application updated and love the fact that no subscriptions are involved. Very fast feedback from developer. 5 stars all the way 👍.Version: 1.20.4

BEST Aggregator on the market!!!!This is the best. All your news, twitter, technology, information, recipe pies feeds in one app. Look at everything at once or individual. Add what you want or search for what you want and add it. Sync it, you name it, this app is great!!.Version: 1.11.3

Amazing appEvery time I go to use this app I’m always pleasantly surprised by how it’s able to do everything that I set out to accomplish. There’s no searching around for what I’m looking for, or trying to find workarounds. This app is incredibly well thought out and the settings are so detailed I felt it was actually worth the time to write this review. Of all the RSS readers I tried before settling on this one, I have zero regrets that I went with this app. Everyone should be aware of it and how great it is..Version: 1.9.7

Top rateThe developer really took the time to realize what a reader should be like. This app is everything that I wanted. Low overhead and no fluff of the other "subscription" models while allowing for ease of use in adding your own sources. Add in a small thing like true dark mode and it's very enjoyable experience..Version: 1.8.4

Bye RSS Subscription ServicesDoes it have a web interface? No, but it’s better than whatever it is you’re using right now. This is how RSS should be in 2019..Version: 1.8.14

Very satisfiedRarely if ever do I write a review. Further, it is rare that I buy an app that I find truly useful in daily life (with the exception of OmniFocus), but this is impressive. A great and intuitive design brings all RSS and Twitter feeds together in a very accessible layout across (and in sync) all Apple devices. The best news reader I have used and is, in part, what Apple News should have been. If you enjoy browsing the news you will not be disappointed..Version: 1.9.7

Great appI have used various RSS apps and this is hands down my favorite. It’s fast and reliable . I am a precious feedly user and discovered this app when they got behind a paywall. Wish I had discovered it sooner.Version: 1.11.3

The Best RSS Reader I’ve UsedI’ve been using RSS since the early 2000’s, on many platforms (even developing my own online aggregator/reader at one point), and News Explorer is the best I’ve ever used. I find using it to be the fastest way stay up-to-date with the websites, Youtube channels and blogs that I follow..Version: 1.20.4

Great app just keeps improvingGreat News reader. Period. Hands down, best I’ve been able to find, and the best since Net NewsWire circa 2009. Structured list reading however *you* want to set it up. If you’re like me and you want to read the feeds you know you want to read, not some machine-learning “tell me about your interests” thing... this is for you. Subscriptions are all local too - no third party cloud server back end, no account to create. It’s 100% on your devices. Phenomenal support. The dev responds quickly to support emails, and continues to refine and rev the product. Sync is solid and fast and uses iCloud. Worked great on my iPhone 6 and iPhone X, works great on my iPhone 12 Pro, iPad mini, and MBP. i use this app to keep up on my industry, and the world, every single day. If you read news, you owe it to yourself to download and try it out..Version: 1.9.17

The Best!My favorite news aggregator! An excellent product with all the features and functionalities gathered in a professional way, elegant and that offers a light years user experience ahead of others. Congratulations!.Version: 1.9.17

Simply the best RSS reader!Tried them all. News Explorer is the best definitely the best. Love the deep Twitter integration! Great for following YouTube feeds too!.Version: 1.9.17

Great appBut give me the option to set swipes. You have to swipe a bit, then tap on “More” then tap “Mark as Unread”. I just want to swipe as unread! 5 stars when swipe actions can be changed. I wondered about the swipes. It does take from Mail swipes, but only in one direction, the opposite of what I had set up! I just have to train myself to swipe the other direction now!.Version: 1.8.2

The best thing since morning coffee (or tea if you prefer)Add a news-site you fancy directly from Safari :) and thanks to iCloud sync you’re ready Thanks you!.Version: 1.8.9

All it needs is filteringWay back when, I started with Google Reader, and I’ve stuck with RSS through many apps, and now I’m using News Explorer, and everything’s fine. It just works, which is all an app needs to do. But there is one thing it needs, and that is filtering. I will gladly pay a subscription, if I can just have filtering by keywords in an article’s title. Not seeing “Prime Day” or “World Cup” ever again would be so worth it..Version: 1.20.3

The best there is.The title says it all. I’ve tried numerous RSS feed readers….This one can take just about anything you can throw at it. It’s great….and let’s not even get into customization…..the things you can change around and tweak with satisfy the pickiest of nerd….this app has a permanent home on this iPhone. Thanks devs!.Version: 1.10.2

Cool appSeems good so far, but when I read my news from timeline mode, it doesnt let me read the articles in the app like in the list view? Why is this?.Version: 1.8.9

Nice UI, tons of useful custom settings, easy to useThis is one of my favorite RSS readers. I love its simple UI, because it is so friendly to users. Compared to other RSS reader apps, it has more available minor tweaks that can be tailored to your particular template with your favorite font, font-size, line-height , read mode, etc. And it’s smooth and effective both on iPad and iPhone, I can enjoy the pure RSS reading without any disturbance. Finally, I must thank developer for keeping releasing update. 👍.Version: 1.9.8

Great for staying up to date with news!I checked out multiple RSS feed readers before deciding on this one. It’s very straightforward and easy to use, does a good job of organizing my feeds and doesn’t have the distracting clutter of many RSS feed readers. Keep up the great work!.Version: 1.9.7

I like itTrying to get back into the rss news scene. This app is great. I would like to see custom filters and an over all search box or screen. I think custom filters could be cool to categorize stories by a topic since rss is not a controlled environment like Apple News for example. If I could add a bunch sources and have it only keep or fetch stories containing certain words in the title or article then that would alleviate then need to find rss feeds pertaining to only one item of a subject. Like filtering only stories with “Walking Dead” but having several different sources to find stories about said subject..Version: 1.9.10

My no. 1 appI don’t write many reviews but I had to on this one. I use this more than any other app, great way to browse the topics I have. An interest in. Perfect app and great customer support to boot! Thanks to the developer.Version: 1.8

Almost PerfectGreat RSS reader. It does everything I want it to and more. I bought it for the iCloud sync, which works great. I was fed up with either paying for a syncing service or giving away my data to the likes of Feedly. Think about it. With a list of the feeds you subscribe to and which articles you save and star, they can build a pretty good profile to sell your data to advertisers and who knows what else. With News Reader you don’t need any third parties collecting your data. It’s all within iCloud. The only thing I don’t like, and as petty as it sounds, it does drive me a bit insane, is that the app icon is horrendous. Seriously, get a good designer to create something nice. This one is the worst looking icon on my devices..Version: 1.9.10

Fantastic piece of software. Could it look better?Having been an avid RSS user since forever I’ve tried a lot of different software but had been stuck on Reeder the last few years. Then on attempting to do some newsreading on my Apple Watch I came across News Explorer and ponied up. It gets 5 stars for flexibility - you can read on your Apple Watch and Apple TV! And there are lots of pleasing customisation options. But visually it doesn’t seem as well designed as Reeder. And I wish I could customise the font used in the main UI listing screens (you can in the actual articles). Or at least there should be some options as to weight of text. At moment it’s very heavy looking, which makes it feel a bit old fashioned. With a bit of a design spruce this would be the RSS king..Version: 1.9.17

$5 well spentOnce set up this is by far the best RSS app I have ever owned. Thank you for this awesome app that lets me get my news from my chosen sources without all the ads or popups that my adblocker is on. Highly recommended.Version: 1.9.8

Wonderful appThe best rss reader ever!!.Version: 1.6

The Best for RSSThis is the best news feed reader out there, and I’ve tried them all. It doesn’t require you to create an account, has no subscription fees, and syncs/works across all your iOS and macOS devices. Plus the developer is super responsive and keeps up with all the latest iOS features. My only request would be for a universal search from within the app. But you can always exit the app and search from Siri... so 🤷‍♂️..Version: 1.9.6

The best RSS ReaderI tried so many rss readers that were based on services such as inoreader and else, so with news explorer it’s the first time you can sync you rss feeds with icloud sync and it’s so brilliant and smooth. The dev is also so responsive and supportive..Version: 1.8.11

Pleasant surpriseRecently switched to News Explorer from Feedly and I couldn’t be happier. Opened my app today and saw the new action buttons at the bottom of my feed (v1.9.3). Thanks for those! I knew I wanted such a feature, but to find them there one morning having yet asked for them gets you five stars..Version: 1.9.3

Tried them all.News Explorer is the best. No doubt..Version: 1.9.16

Excellent News AggregatorExcellent news app, packed with features and well designed. Using this now instead of the stock news app, which is seriously irritating with the constant plugging of News+. Only thing missing, which apparently is in development, is a means to filter topics, as well as sources. Highly recommend..Version: 1.10.2

Love the app - liked the old icon :)I love the app. It’s been solid and syncs perfectly between my iPad and iPhone. The feature additions have been very welcome. Photo handling in-line has gotten slouch better over the years. I did like the old app icon much better than your new one though :) and if that’s the only complaint a user can come up with, you’re doing a great job. Thanks for the app. I use it constantly..Version: 1.11.2

Finally. This is it.Wow. Finally. I'm a UI snob. I've used RSS since it was developed. I've used the iPad since is was introduced, and instantly I realized it was the perfect RSS reading device. And now, after all this time, I've finally found an app that meets my expectations. I wanted something that uses as much core Apple technologies and UI style as possible. I wanted flexible themes text sizes. I didn't want the UI to be "unique". The best design is "invisible" meaning you don’t notice it because you're fully engaged with your task, and it's not getting in your way. This is it. It's not without fault. Putting feeds in folders is a total pain. But that's something you do rarely. I'm giving it a pass and 5 stars because it is much better than the competition, and allowed me to drop an aggregator subscription. I even had an excellent interaction with support (the dev himself) when I couldn't figure out my OPML file. He showed me what I was doing wrong. Bravo..Version: 1.8.9

Best News ReaderEasy to use, syncs between devices seamlessly, lots of options and flexibility. Plus the developers are super responsive and friendly!.Version: 1.9.10

Missing refresh button that was on the bottom rightBeen using and loving it now for a few years or so on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Easy to use and feds synched across all 3 platforms. The last version however removed the refresh button from the lower right when in the Unread Items screen. Yes, there is resync on the left but I do not want to resync, I just want to refresh my unread list easily to determine if there are any unread left. Please bring it back Update: developer responded informing where refresh is located now. Works great!!!.Version: 1.8.11

Please bring...Ability to mute certain posts by keywords. For example, I don't want to read news about the Kardashians from my favorite news source. I want those posts to automatically be muted and not appearing in the feed. Can you please add the ability to hide/mute by keywords? This is the only thing missing to be a 5 stars app..Version: 1.11.3

Top native iOS rss appApp is maintained on a regular basis. The developer is responsive to support requests (I received a response within an hour of the request). Syncs via iCloud so what I read on my iPhone is synced to my MacBook. Nothing not to like..Version: 1.8.11

Great rss app! Please add more customization options to the fantastic timeline view, I want bold title text like the article view and option to remove summary, also “mark read on scroll option”. Fantastic app..Version: 1.9.1

Best for curating your own newsThis app is the best for curating your own news from sources on rss, Twitter, etc. If you’re a news junkie like me, this is the app to get..Version: 1.8.14

Great app but text size is so small on apple watchIs there any way to make the font size larger on apple watch? The current size is hard to read on apple watch..Version: 1.8.11

Superb RSS ReaderSeems like NE 2.0 is upcoming. Love the new Unread count at the top of the page - latest update. All we’re missing is Sort by Unread (Folders and Feeds). No prob whatsoever shelling out more money for big updates to support the excellent Dev (We’d say no to Subcriptions though; we have enough of them)..Version: 1.9.11

Multiple Sources is FantasticThe ability to add sources from many platforms saves time and the interface is easy to use..Version: 1.11.3

No twitter supportLowering my rating from 5 to 4 because they just removed the twitter support. Keeping up with twitter without RSS is impossible. If it’s too expensive put a membership or something just for it but don’t cut users out of it. I’m looking for another RSS now just because of this… 🙄.Version: 1.20.1

Love this appI have been using various RSS readers for many many years at this point using aggregators like feedly after google shut their RSS service down. I have been using the Reeder app for iOS and Mac for the most part (also excellent) but I moved everything over to this app. I love that it illuminates the dependency on feedly, end it works seamlessly and like butter across all of my iOS devices. Meanwhile the RSS reader features are great as well including the various ways to mark articles as read Amongst all the other configuration options. I am looking forward to a little bit more functionality on the watch app as I like to use that when I’m waiting in line at a store or at a stoplight or whatever. Nice job developers.Version: 1.8.14

The best feed readerDoes everything I want and more. The Youtube feed finder is particularly useful since I don't need a google account to follow channels, RSS support is solid. Use it everyday and love it.Version: 1.11.1

This 5 star for the developerWhenever you submit your feedbacks to developer they normally get ignored but really impressed that my recent feedback got heard so soon and they have implemented total black for X and have an option to reduce the title size. Thanks..Version: 1.8.4

Best RSS Reader I’ve Ever UsedNewsExplorer has an intuitive interface and good organization. You can see all unread articles from all the different sources on the same screen or just focus on one at a time. It syncs to my Mac and Apple Watch and iPad. Best of all, it has a fair pricing model. Buy it once and use it forever! I’m so fatigued by those subscription apps out there trying to eat away at my paycheck..Version: 1.9

Worth it!Normally, I only buy apps if there is a way to try them before (free version or trial). So I did tons of research before buying this one and seing the positive feedbacks, I bit the bullet. I am very happy that I did as it has everything I need and the one-time purchase (no subscription) makes it very affordable. A big thank you to the developers!.Version: 1.10.2
