Foreign Policy for Negative User Reviews

Good content, bad interfaceThe quality of reporting and articles are great. My complaint is the interface is very outdated. The website has many graphics, photos and color in general. This is basically just the text. It also lacks a search feature. I’d like to read on the go and possibly receive notifications via the app not just through email. I’ll have to stick to the website until they update this very basic app. I also noticed there has been only a handful of updates in the last few years, FP obviously is not focused on the app’s quality..Version: 2.0.8

Don’t like visuals .I can’t figure out how to change font size and it seems like it’s always in night mode. Makes it very hard to read for me. Not sure if I’m just missing anything but I’ve looked around and can’t find a solution..Version: 202009.5

Features missingNeeds: - offline reading - full article contents including tags and “read more” section Great content though. App needs to live up to it..Version: 3.0

Great content, abysmal appObviously I enjoy FP content enough to purchase it. But where is the app functionality?? It's hardly usable. ZERO article search function--you have to comb through topics to find articles. Favoriting articles takes way too many taps. There is no syncing of favorited articles between multiple logged-in devices. This app is so bad I'm astonished FP would release it like this.Version: 2.0.8

App needs curationLove the content and remain a proud subscriber to FP but this app lacks the curation I think an app that covers a lot of ground needs. The website is a far better choice to peruse through on an iPhone, as of the time of writing. Keeping it installed to see if it improves in time..Version: 3.1.3

Articles are great, app not so muchI think the add should have more features, if possible. Especially for those who subscribe to FP.Version: 2.0.8

Nigh on uselessI love this publication. But the app is frustratingly sparse. Articles I find in Twitter don’t appear in the app where I can save for reading later. The search function doesn’t yield the name of an author who published an article today. It doesn’t yield the subject of that article in anything written after 2018. When I open the app with multiple notification badges, it doesn’t indicate which articles triggered the alert. Every menu lists the same four uninformative options containing the same content. Must do better..Version: 3.1.3

Great content poor UI/UXHi FP, Been a subscriber for over 10 years on and off. And while I love the content and always appreciate the in-depth reporting and FP analysis; the iOS App is a poor platform for displaying your great works. The FP website is much better. The app lacks any decent elastic search capability, the fact I cannot look up articles by title or author easily is disturbing for a 2018 media-based app. My “starred”/saved articles seem to disappear without notice when I review them. The processing and loading of articles is timely nothing like my other media apps such as NY times , Wash Post, WSJ, or Medium. There are a lot of UI lessons to be learned from those for FP app. The ability to subscribe only by defined topics instead of user defined is also a poor way to push info to user. Simple topics like “intelligence” or “security cooperation” don’t appear to exist. The ability for user defined tags to articles would also be a benefit to the app. And help crowd source your search engine and parameters. Also the app doesn’t appear to display the amazing graphics from the website and magazine for which FP is famous. A lack of info graphics and save them to a user’s device seems like a necessary fix for any media app. Again FP’s content is amazing but how it is disseminated in the app is disappointing. I look forward to app updates and am hoping the app catches up with the highly renown website and magazine. Cheers.Version: 2.0.8

Limited functionalityGreat publication but really hard to search for past articles in the app unless you flag them..Version: 2.0.8

Great app BUTWhy does the Push Notification setting every night??? This is so bothersome - please fix!.Version: 3.1.3

FP has gone from worse to worse, very partisan indeedCannot endure FP any longer it’s now just as bad as Time Magazine, ending my subscription after 10years, very disappointing.Version: 3.1.3

Unable to sign in to my accountSign in is functional on web version but not app. Customer service reset my password which did not fix the problem. I can not access the feedback tab in app because I cannot sign in..Version: 2.0.8

Needs UI/UX improvementsQuality content but the app needs work - especially for how expensive a subscription is. Its not terrible or unstable but it feels old and sluggish with a poor use of screen real estate, barely passing for a typical news app from 5 years ago. Now that that the bar for what passes as a solid news app is higher (looking at you The Economist, WSJ, NYT, Atlantic, Guardian, etc) I would hope they update their UI/UX to keep with the times. I find myself doing most of my FP reading on their website because of this..Version: 3.1.3

Paid sub wants moreWhen you pay for a subscription it leaves quite a bad taste in the mouth when the app asks for more money to read an article. Good magazine but not good enough that I’ll renew. Main reason for skipping renewal is begging for money. I paid my subscription don't ask me to pay more when I land on certain articles. Tasteless..Version: 202306.19

DoApp simply doesn't work. Not even a little....Version: 1.2.3

Great content, awful user interfaceI love FP, the content it produces is regularly of excellent quality and I really enjoy sitting down to dig into their broad and deep coverage. However, using the remodeled app is an almost always infuriating experience. The aesthetic is beautiful, an improvement over the old app design visually, but it’s glitchy and choppy essentially all the time. Scrolling through articles frequently requires the app to resize text in the middle of reading, which disjoints the reading experience and gets frustrating quickly. Large, feature pieces almost always cause the app to reload its stream from the top, so you lose your place when you’re finished a feature. This happens with all articles when I change to a different app and then back to FP, and gets old quickly. Additionally , sometimes the app simply won’t load content older than a few days. While this usually sorts itself out over time, it means I can’t use the app for long stretches and have to keep checking and reloading until it works. It’s annoying. Again, I don’t have have a single complaint about the content FP produces. They’re an amazing publication I love to read, and would recommend to anyone. But the new app needs work, fast. It’s prettier than the old one they used to have, which is great haha but functionally its not easy or fun to use..Version: 3.1

Weak app, great publicationForeign policy magazine is great. But this app is not a magazine. It’s not even a browser. It’s a feed. It gives you articles in more or less chronological order. No headlines, no searching, no customization. Also, no offline reading (New Yorkers like this on subways! And everyone likes it on airplanes!). You’re better off reading FP on a browser. I love good reading apps (NYT, New Yorker). This is not one of them..Version: 2.0.8

Ads in App?Love the content. Very disappointed to endure ads inside a paid subscription. Difficult to read thoughtful articles with this distraction!.Version: 3.1.3

Garbage. Not worth two dollars.Lowest expectations = not met. You’re charging a luxury price for a garbage product. Is it worse than paying for “The Economist”? No. But you’re basically paying for a garbage podcast (worse than what you can get for free from dozens of sources, including radio) and a blog format (text only) app interface, with quality worse than what you can get for free, again, from dozens of sources (including newspapers). Editorially, better than The Economist, but more than 1 article in 5 is just garbage that should not have gone to press at all (most often crude propaganda, occasionally sophomoric opinion pieces written from sincere ignorance). I’d take a refund if one were offered..Version: 2.0.8

Love FP but hate this appThe app is so terribly made it's embarrassing. Even as a premium subscriber I get ads. Lots of improvement needed..Version: 2.0.4

Broken in Dark ModeI have my phone I dark mode and I can't read half of the articles because they appear in black text on a black background... I can read them if I copy-paste the text into a different app like Notes but that is ridiculous..Version: 202009.5

Looks good but glitchy and slowHave read FP for years and was looking forward to an app but it is not easy to use. Not responsive, slower than website to load and not intuitive to find articles..Version: 1.2.3

App great for old people...But not for us younger folks! The UI is MASSIVE and only fits two stories on a screen, which is especially bad on my iPhone 11. I feel like it treats me like I’m blind. Please give us the option to make things smaller and fit more on a page. All the buttons are awkwardly sized and make me think it’s a poor quality port from older, smaller iPhones. The bottom navigation bar is useless. Feels like it was done by a single programmer quickly, rather than by a professional. This review is for the APP not the content..Version: 3.1.3
