✓ This game is AWFUL nowThis game was one of my favourites before it became a subscription game. I’d managed to buy lots of maps and had a good amount of progress, now that’s all gone. Actually so so disappointed that they’ve not honoured loyal players progress and taken away the best part of the game - pass and play. I’ll miss playing, I may return if they find another way of making money which isn’t as ridiculous and expensive, rather than asking for players to pay a subscription which is, in my eyes, the worst kind of way of paying for a game..Version: 0.22.1
✓ Fun but brokenI love Geoguessr, have played it for years on laptop but just downloaded the app, and it’s a bit broken. Game-by-game it’s fine, but it won’t let me log in, logging in seems to either prompt an error or it just does nothing and acts like I’ve not logged in. On top of this, it doesn’t seem to remember my progress any time I go on, constantly get kicked back to level 1, which is a shame as I want to go through the levels. ✓ What have you done !!!This was a fantastic game and very good for keeping your brain active - I would have given it 5* BUT for some reason you have made it impossible to play game after game as you used to be able to do. Now I have to wait until the timer runs down before I can open another game - why ? Or you have to pay to play unlimited games - greed that’s what it is !!! ✓ PaywallI’d love to see the statistics ever since the paywall was introduced. Definitely a steep decline in active users. GeoGuessr doesn’t really understand what type of game they are. They started as a web browser game with a unique concept that became extremely popular. GeoGuessr is a game you might play once a week, once every two weeks or even a month. This game doesn’t warrant a subscription service, the average GeoGuessr player is not gonna pay money for this game. ✓ Great Game Annoying ProblemsThis is a great game, but you can only play once every 24 hours unless you pay for unlimited. I feel like they could put ads in and we could play multiple times while they still make money but whatever. There is a problem that I have run into now a few times. Whenever I have internet issues or the game won’t connect, the game just kicks me out and I have to wait another 24 hours. ✓ Terrible update ruined the game...This app was awesome, until this latest update. ✓ Fun but limited “world” options makes it repetitiveFun for a while but the app seems the think that the whole world just consists of the USA, France, Thailand, South Africa, the Uk, Japan etc and very rarely if ever drops you in a different country or another part of the world. In one round it is not uncommon for at least two of the five goes to be in the USA and this gets boring very quickly. It’s a shame it never takes you to South Asia or North and Sub Saharan Africa since I feel like exploring these parts of the world would be fun and interesting and would make the app feel a lot less repetitive..Version: 0.12

✓ Unclear “cheating” policyI paid for a pro account and was banned for “cheating” without warning. The game itself is good, but their “cheating” policy is incredibly flawed. Everyone has access to the internet and will look up signs on Google to help them narrow down their location. So, basically, everyone is “cheating” in this game, but if you happen to make another player angry for being a better “cheater”, they can report you and you will be unjustly banned. The support staff is likewise incredible rude and condescending to their paid subscribers. ✓ BR on mobile is kinda fun, thats about itI assume a lot more will be added in the future so I’m going to ignore the lack of features and maps in the game. But as for the BR mode, the gameplay and UI could use some changes. First of all, I like how easy the controls are, and the extended timer is nice. However, we should be able to move around while waiting for the next round. Also we should be able to see a list of players and their guesses maybe in a side bar that maybe you can toggle open and closed, especially after you’ve already made it to the next round or been knocked out. Finally I think we need a stats page. Overall it’s a good start for the BR mode, I look forward to future updates..Version: 0.22.1
✓ Why do we have to pay now?I have just recently downloaded this app again and I have discovered that you get 3 free games, then have to wait an entire day for another free game! You can pay for a month or a year, but why do you have to pay now? This game is fun but when I play my free games I even get terrible locations that just end up making the game boring. ✓ Why, oh why do we have to have those ridiculous clicks?The concept is top hole, the delivery pretty nifty, but it has some REALLY ANNOYING FEATURES! I have to play with the sound off on my iPad because I can’t find a Settings button to do it within the game. I can’t stand the ridiculous noises developers put into programs, and the reverberating clicks you get on this one are way down there with some of the least favourites. Then there’s the habit it has of dropping you somewhere where you have to click for miles and miles before you can even find a reliable clue to what continent you’re on, never mind which country. The worst are the ones where the image quality is so poor that roadside lettering has to be enormous for you to read it. You just have to hope it eventually brings you out into a better quality image. And the most annoying is how, not content with freezing up for minutes on end while it works out where the next bit is, it suddenly opens up the map on you and tells you you’ve just guessed the location wrong (of course it’s wrong, I didn’t enter a guess!), and you’ve got no points for that go because it thought you were guessing Patagonia when you needed to be in Warsaw. There needs to be a guess-confirm stage to avoid this, and a back button for when it’s entered a guess for you, so you can correct its errors. There’s still a lot of work to be done to bring it up to scratch..Version: 0.10
✓ Used to be amazing!!I don’t usually rate apps but I felt I had to here... I recently updated GeoGuesser to find much of the contents to be missing including the single player mode. All features have now been replaced with a not so good “battle royale” which includes a time limit. Previously, when making your guess you could pick exactly (and I mean exactly) where you wanted to place your pin but now, it appears that you can only pick countries rather than exact destinations which makes it far less fun. Not only this but you now have to pay for some features. I completely understand that these games need to make money some how but I don’t think this is the way because of the current state the app is in. No one wants to pay for what contents are on offer right now. I’m so disappointed to see this incredible app go to ruin. Please, please add these options back in or revert the whole game back to what it used to be. I really hate to give such a previously amazing app 1 star but I hope soon, something will change and I can enjoy it once again. Thank you :).Version: 0.22
✓ Bad changesI used to love this app but now it’s been updated everything is behind a paywall. I’ve lost all the progress I made and now you have to pay a subscription to do more than 3 games a day. I get that developers have to make money but it would have been better to watch an ad before each game than pay. Its also less customisable. You can only play the whole world or tournaments unlike before and you can’t set your own time limits. Its really spoiled one of my previous favourite apps..Version: 0.30.0
✓ Partially brokenIt works well MOST of the time, in which it’s really good for a break. It could definitely do with a ‘mode’ which only has 3 rounds or even just 2, since the 5 round system gets boring after a few times and you have to play it quite a few times with high scores to unlock a different mode. The tipping point is the fact that you can get multiple ‘5000s’ and feel great about getting a high score, then the app will either crash or small faults that stop you from progressing. Problems I’ve had: -Camera spawning far above road, no ability to move -Camera randomly not able to move further down roads(with no alternative roads) -App crashing(freezes then closes) -Green placement marker not working, stopping you from completing the round These get very frustrating to play through, especially when you’re using this app to have a break from stress and anger..Version: 0.10

✓ Fun but has problemsWhen you click the flag to return to the start point it doesn’t save where you were looking on the map, it resets everything. So you have to go back to the map and try to find where you were just looking. I have to remember where I’m at before I click back to the start point and then try and find it all over again on the map. Also the compass does not make any sense at all. If I’m looking straight north with the red pointer straight up and I turn to the right, which should be east it moves in the opposite direction. The compass needs to rotate in accordance with which way you are turning.Version: 0.10

Really think you should reconsider or risk losing almost all players to other apps. I also don’t work in this industry, but surely the aim is to entice new players in? Of course, even though it’s understandable that they’d need money to have this running without ads, it’s easy to just have microtransactions in the background for new powers or features that you can buy. Many games have been ruined when the developers decided that in order to keep it running, the players need a subscription. Subscriptions are the WORST form of purchases that can be available for a game that is free to play originally. A one-time pass is good to have in the background, but it shouldn’t be a subscription, because those are just terrible ways that developers show how greedy they are. ✓ Don’t update if you still have pass n playSaddest day. Update took away pass n play mode which I happily played with family members for hours. I don’t mind paying but at least give back the game mode that was fun and flexible. Even if I wanted to play battle royale with friends/family there doesn’t seem to be any way to do this right now. ✓ Used to be good until the recent updateLoved playing this through the first few lockdowns, I even pod to unlock the Australian map. I spent a year travelling Australia a few years back so it was enjoyable to test my geography on the country and nice to be occasionally dropped in places I’d visited. Loaded up the app after a while of not playing to find it’s pretty much a completely different game and the map I’d paid for doesn’t even exist anymore! ✓ Don’t waste your moneyThis game used to be a lot of fun that I would play for years where you could pass some time by being able to play unlimited games for free and unlocking specific geographical areas after collecting a certain amount of points. Unfortunately, I’m going to have downgrade my rating of the recent update of this app two stars. The main reason is because you only get three unpaid games per mode you want to play but if you want to unlock the full version of the new update, you have to pay a fixed monthly fee of three dollars per month. I would understand if the game implemented a one time fee, but I really don’t think it is worth paying a monthly fee for a simple geographical guessing game. ✓ DisappointedI was just thinking about a game to play when I thought about GeoGuessr. I played it when I was younger with my siblings on one iPad and single player, and it would’ve been nice to play again, get some of that nostalgia. However, when I downloaded the game, there is no single player, no maps, no selection and you can only play 3 free games PER DAY MAXIMUM. As well as this, you can’t play against people on the same device but on random people worldwide. It was good to play those three games, but these upgrades seem to be downgrades. Even so, I love the game so much I paid $3/month and stuck to the browser version, until it got so gd glitchy I couldn’t take it anymore. I’ll be walking along and then suddenly it freezes, I have to refresh & the map starts over or disappears. Sometimes you can double click far ahead on the map to move quickly forward, but other times you can only use the arrows to inch forward, which is not fun when the game drops you in the middle of nowhere. If you come to an intersection of more than 2 roads, the arrows overlap & it’s impossible to go in certain directions. The audacity to charge a subscription fee & provide paying customers with either an incredibly limited app or a clunky, glitchy browser game. I’m a huge map nerd & I adore the concept, but I just canceled my subscription because the execution is so bad. If they add all the features to the app, I’ll give them my $3.00 again..Version: 0.36.1
✓ RIP GeoGuessr (UPDATED)This new version is woeful and developers will do well to rethink this ASAP. Pass and play is gone, everything points to a subscription. I’d be happy to pay a lump sum for the app to play it as it was WITH the maps I had unlocked. Whatever this new “battle royale” route for monetisation is is dreadful. Dreadful update riding on the back of historical good ratings Update 26 Aug 21 - the developer has been commenting on a number of posts to say they’ve “added” maps when in fact, they’ve merely reinstated the maps that they removed. Pass and play is still not available and I have a countdown of “free” games. I again revert to the above where I’d rather pay a lump sum for the app and be done with it but greed has prevailed here and judging by the other recent reviews, the public have spoken. ✓ Good idea, needs workAn interesting idea, this is a moderately addictive game. It’s only marred by user interface problems, and the fact that it will occasionally crash when running in the background and cause me to lose hours of work. It desperately needs either a rework of the user interface, or pop-up confirmation dialogs for the return to initial location button and the green button in the lower right. Also, It would be nice to have it save games so that you could at least to recover a little of what you’ve done after it crashes. It would also be nice if you could control movement with a single tap instead of a double tap. Edit: deleted game after the third time I got to picking the location on the last round and it exited the game and I lost all my progress. ✓ A Sad Ending to this AppI am a high school student who made it a tradition to play with one of my better friends after school, right before practice. It was a way for us to laugh and enjoy being together while having fun. Unfortunately, yesterday I went to play with him and had to update the app. Now that the game is pay to play we can’t play anymore and it is just depressing. There’s a reason the phone app had a better review than the game on the computer. I know you guys will probably make more money now but the image of your company has been stained. ✓ Horrible updateMe and my mom love playing this game together on our phones. We’re not very geographically savvy so this game is really just a way for us to pass the time and learn a thing or two. However, this update completely ruined that for us. The single player mode was completely replaced with battle royale mode which is something me and my mother are not interested in at all, we just want to explore and have fun, not compete against others. Additionally you have to now pay to play on a phone, which is fine with us, but not if it’s just a mode we don’t want to play. I’m not sure why they completely replaced the app version instead of putting both modes up and letting the user lock what they want to do. ✓ Fun but it stops in the middleThis is a really fun game and helps pass the time, but if you have to step away at all, even if you pause, it’ll delete your progress a lot of times, which is really frustrating. Like if you’re at 3/5, you can stop for ten minutes and then it’ll put you at the beginning and say you’re out of free games eve though you never finished the other game. Other times, you can pause for hours and it’ll still be waiting for you. So the fact that it’s not consistent is even more frustrating. ✓ Daytime robbery!I downloaded Geoguesser over 1 year ago. After trailing my way through the same countries (first 15 attempts, I ended up 8x in Brazil and 5x in Russia). Finally managed to unlock all but 2 maps. We played it for hours on end as - once you control which map you like to play - is a good way to learn geography. Having not played for 1 month now, I was disgusted to see that GeoGuesser done an upgrade - literally wiping out all my scores, collected points as well as maps. Basically putting me back right back to the very beginning. Worse, now they request money to actually play the game. When you’ve pinned a location, and you reset the location, the pin resets too. It’s too easy to accidentally hit the guess button when searching a map, and if you’ve already put a pin down temporarily, game over. An ‘are you sure’ screen after hitting the guess button would fix this. The game frequently freezes, with the only option to start a new game. I play a round throughout the day, and nothing is more annoying that being on a perfect score going in to a final round and the game freezes, or just resets back to the title screen. This game has a lot of potential, and with a few enhancements, would make the game so much better. 1. Option to have Satellite view instead of street view 2. Have city/town concentric locations over random back roads. Especially places like Australia where you could have to travel 50km before you hit a cross road to give you any type of clue as to where you are. At least in an urban environment, there are clues to follow. 3. Lock the swipe up and down functions to prevent switching apps or pulling down notifications. ✓ Needs improvement on syncingOverall a good game and a solid idea for a geography game, but syncing across devices is problematic, even after signing in. I must admit there were 2 or three I didn’t know the location of. Had great fun trying to pinpoint the exact location of the start point. But then the trouble starts, clicking on the map is completely inaccurate, it sometimes puts you 100m from where you seem to have placed your marker, so that ruins the fun fast. And when you try the more advanced maps, there’s a common theme. Find the most desolate piece of road in uninhabited terrain with no signs, buildings, references for 20-30 miles in either direction, so you sit there mindlessly clicking for half an hour until you find a tiny clue and then somehow you’re expected to know exactly at which Bush in 50 miles of identical road/scenery you started. ✓ Mystified!I have been playing this happily on my iPad for the past year, and have opened most of the countries or areas available. I have quite a lot of geocoins and could open more, but suddenly it ‘s all changed. The main menu gives only 3 choices of map, and I am offered 3 free games, and when I have played them I have to wait 24 hours! What is going on??? How can I get back to my original choices? ✓ Wait, what?I absolutely used to love this game and I’d play it for hours just exploring different places and working hard to unlock new maps. I take a break and come back to a subscription service??? What happened, devs? I wouldn’t have minded if you made it ad-supported or needed to outright buy the game, but I’m not going to pay for it every single month. From the look of the reviews I’m certainly not alone in this either. Maybe you should listen to those people who supported you from the start, devs, instead of turning this into a greedy cash grab like virtually every other game on the market. ✓ Scammed out of my moneyI really love playing geoguesser. However they made it so you have to pay to play the game. I just bought a $25 giftcard on my phone so I bought the yearly one for $24 I bought it and it said you’re all set. I played one game and it said come back in 23 hours... I checked my account and I had $1 left on it. It didn’t give me the yearly premium version and I lost $24. Could’ve used that money for food or water but I guess this app can just steal it from me🤦♂️ I really don’t get it. I just want to play the game without having to pay. ✓ Mostly okayI didn’t mind paying to play because I am interested in the game and enjoy looking for clues. My only suggestions would be to: 1) Not ghost the clues, especially on those games where you drop pin on a random dirt road in any country. I could literally move forward or backward for 30+ minutes without any clues at all because the creator of that particular game ghosted ALL license plates and signs. 2) If you are going to drop pin in the water, make sure that the game can still move somewhere. If all we can do is rotate in place and can only see what, a few low mountains, and some ice, how are we to get clues to figure out that this was Denmark and not somewhere else..like Canada? 3) Some of your games are not coded for the arrows to point in the right direction, which slows movement down. Several time there was NO arrow indicating that I could move in a certain direction but still could move. These do get frustrating when it happens over and over, country after country, game after game, especially with a cost attached. Like I said, I don’t mind paying. Just wish the quality was better so I wouldn’t feel slightly ripped off..Version: 0.116.0
