Lots of Improvement NeededI don’t understand why this app has such high ratings. I feel like I was duped! I paid for the annual subscription and I wish I hadn’t so far. First: you have to manually add every book cover. Every one. That alone is awful. Exporting over a thousand books makes this a huge deal breaker. On top of the fact that you have to click on 3 different things do EVERY BOOK to add a cover EVERY TIME! Seriously, at least make it easier to edit if we have to do it ourselves. Second: there is some weird glitch where books without uploaded book covers shoes the cover of a random book that you have uploaded. So, for example, if I uploaded the cover for Stephen King’s IT but not the cover for Justin Cronin’s The Ferryman, The Ferryman will show all the correct book I for but it will show the cover of IT. Again, awful. Third: every time I open the app, I get an error that says “Uploading to iCloud failed” which is weird because all my books that I imported have been imported so I’m not sure what keeps failing but the error message is irritating and I have no idea how to fix it. Fourth: even though I paid for a subscription, they still want to charge you for everything…which wouldn’t bother me IF it was a great app to begin with but what the heck are they spending their money on because it is not to make this app better. Don’t waste your time on this..Version: 1.13.1

Amazing app!I enjoyed using this app a lot and it helped me record how much I red per day and week. It kept me updated on how much I read and made me keep reading. It got me out of my reading block and helped me lots! The only annoying this is that not all the book covers are up to date so sometime you have to look them up or take a photo to get a cover for your book. Besides that it was an awesome and I definitely recommend to everyone who enjoys reading or is stuck atm and needs yo start reading again!.Version: 1.12.15

Could be exactly what I wanted, but I’m not willing to pay for every little featureThe app itself is exactly what I was looking for, however, if you want to actually be able to use it efficiently you are required to pay for it. I understand the creators/company needs to make money, but the best apps let you have the basics for free, and prompt you to BETTER your experience through payment plans. The basic functions of this app do not work for free after so much. You aren’t allowed to have more than 10 books in your list without upgrading. Which is fine, I guess. I was willing to reluctantly accept that without deleting the app, until I added a book I had already read (out of curiosity and simply playing with the functions of the app) and realized I had to be a member to even delete books out of my lists???? That’s outrageous in my opinion. Not at all worth it for me. I would consider paying for an app if it didn’t feel like I was required to. Take Duolingo for example: you get the basic functions of the app (language learning, in case anyone didn’t know) for free, then can choose to pay to erase ads, and have extra helpful features available to you. I didn’t feel like I was forced to pay, so I was more willing to. Moral is, if you’re willing to pay for this app, go ahead! It looks like it could be very helpful for any serious reader trying to digitally track their reading. I’m personally going to look for better options..Version: 1.12.14

Free for a little bitI love this app! It definitely makes me more motivated to read but the #1 thing that frustrates me with this app is only being able to add 20 books for free before you either have to spend 350 gems to get 1 more free book spot or pay for premium , it would be fine if the gems were easier to get but you only get 1 gem for every 5 minutes after finishing a 4 hour book you only get 48 gems so once you start doing the math even if you use the gems you will eventually run out of book space essentially forcing you to buy premium or stop using the app, also you can’t delete books (unless of course you have premium) so there is no way to use this app for a long term period of time without having to eventually pay for it. I understand wanting to offer certain features in premium that would make it worth it to some users but when the app is only free for so long it makes the experience way less enjoyable.Version: 1.12.2

Okay appI downloaded under the impression that this would be a great app but was quite disappointed. Most of the features require you to purchase Pro. You can only have 10 books in your library and you can’t delete them unless you pay for pro. I was quite disappointed with how this app works..Version: 1.12.18

Good appGreat app for keeping track of reading but I don’t like subscribing to too many services. Subscribing isn’t compulsory but it is necessary if you want to keep using the app as you can’t delete books and you have a limit of 10. I would prefer if there was a lifetime subscription option so I didn’t have to keep track of another subscription..Version: 1.11.16

A little upset and annoyedI downloaded this a few months ago but only started getting into using it this week. I did not realize that there was a limit in books and I had added books that I had already read just to rate them and keep track of what I’ve read in the past. Well, I started reading a book series this week and I had finished the first two and went to add the next book so I could start tracking it. I put in all the information in and went to add it but it wouldn’t let me unless I got pro. So I though that maybe I could delete the books that I read before I got the app. But of course I couldn’t unless I got pro, which is a load of bull crap. I’m very annoyed. I then thought maybe if I delete and redownload the app I could only add the books I’m currently reading but then I would lose all of the reading I had already done. Like I said I’m very annoyed, mad and upset. I’m only giving it three stars because I still think the app is great but mad about the book limit. I think the limit should be at least higher. Or at most 100 or something..Version: 1.12.14

Aggressive upsell is counterproductiveI appreciate the opportunity to try out an app for free and then see if I would like to upgrade. So far, I’m seeing things about this app that I enjoy. But the sheer volume of in-app reminders, pop-ups, banners re going pro is really really off-putting. Also, as a new user, some of these upsells are actually interfering with my learning how to use the app. I was in a single book entry and couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get back to all my books. Turns out a “go pro” banner was hiding the top navigation. I didn’t know the app well enough to know something was under the banner. I understand developers need a return on investment and to make a living, and I don’t begrudge them the hustle to get people to upgrade. But the volume, frequency and placement of these attempts is so overwhelming that my focus is less on enjoying the app and more on avoiding or clicking out of the upsells, and I’m feeling hesitant about continuing with this product..Version: 1.10.3

Good App but needs improvementI love this app! As a student I use it for my coursework reading for English Literature as well as reading for pleasure. My only annoyance with this app is that I can’t delete books when I’ve finished them. This means I’ve reached my ‘10 book limit’ and I can’t add anymore as I can’t delete the books. This is highly annoying as I want to use the app to track more of my reading, but I can’t as I can’t add the books due to not being able to delete them. I have to pay to delete them which seems stupid. If I can delete books without having to pay for pro... I’ll continue using the app as I love it wholeheartedly. If I can’t actually use the app, I’ll just not use it. Please fix this issue and then I’ll be a happier reader. Otherwise, a wonderful app! :).Version: 1.9.18

App is glitchy and pestering me to subscribeUPDATE: JULY 2023 Went to Germany for a family vacation July 15 and lost an over 100 day streak AGAIN! This app cannot seem to sort out time zone changes. I’m furious! My streak should not be adjusted once I cross a time zone. What I read in the past should be honoured as it was recorded - not changed to the new time zone. It’s frustrating and why this app will remain 1 star for me because it hasn’t been fixed after 3 times! ADDENDUM - AUG 2022 About 2 days ago I had a long streak going, well over 60 days. Suddenly, I check my app and I have a streak of 3 days. I’m angry as hell. I could see places where I had read 10 mins in a particular day had been moved to the following day thus, breaking my streak. WHY?! If I start reading in bed just before midnight for 20 mins (finishing after midnight) it would count the session as the day I started reading. It looks like now that suddenly doesn’t count as a reading session. Since I couldn’t fix anything past 14 days I blew my 13 day streak and started from scratch. I’d like an explanation from the developer as to why they shifted my reading times. I am seriously tempted to delete this app after this. I’ve had it for years and I’ve never had them touch my reading times before so why now?.Version: 1.13.6

Great but some suggestionsThis is a great app, except I don’t agree with the exhorbitant price. Make it a one of purchase of $7.99 and I’ll buy it. One thing about the free version - deleting books should available in the free version. It’s a stupid feature to only make available in the paid version..Version: 1.9.20

Quite glitchy appI have a few issues with the app which take some of the joy away. The search functionality is not properly working. Most books are lacking cover photos. Also it would be good to be able to add more information about the books, especially which edition we are reading. Second issue, audiobooks. There are a lot of things to be improved there. And the last thing is the sync functionality, which does not seem to be working, and also it's unclear how it works. For the price I paid I expected a bit more. I hope many of these things can be improved soon..Version: 1.9.30

Poor uiUgly UI that’s not intuitive.Version: 1.12.16

DisappointedFirst of all, I was playing around with this app. I added a book I already read to see how it worked (saw this in another review) and it didn’t let me delete it? You actually have to pay to do that! And second you can’t add more than 10 books before your hit with the limit and have to pay yet again!? I understand paying for certain things but to DELETE and ADD books you want to read is crazy to me. I mean adding books it’s the whole purpose of this app (to track them) and they aren’t even letting you do that? I would personally just use another app or your notes😂. This needs a lot of work. P.S- don’t get me wrong. This is a neat app. The background music, the timer, adding quotes and your thoughts. As well as words you don’t understand. I just think they're asking to pay for the wrong things. If you were to ask me to pay for any of the things listed above like background music and stuff, that’s fine because thats a PLUS. Deleting and adding though? I just don’t see it..Version: 1.13.1

Good app if you like structure when reading but became obsessed with gemsRecently I got back into reading that happened during the covid pandemic and lockdown, I brought a bunch of books (book haul) with the mindset of reading them but because I brought too many my brain became cluttered and overwhelmed! This app is really useful I can decide what I want to read and how long for, also I can listen to soothing sounds from this app that keeps my mind focused on reading. This app also measures how long I read through reading sessions then calculates how much pages I’m reading a minute and based on how you read it calculates when you would finish the book! I had written this review during covid when this app was free, my original rating was five stars till I came back and found out I have to pay to access part of this app I could’ve accessed before free of charge. Now I have too pay to store all my books and any new books I purchase and I’m really disappointed how obsessed with gems this app has become😥!! It’s four/five stars if you decide to purchase the full version of this app and three stars if you choose to access the “free” version of this app!.Version: 1.14.2

Seems like a great app however....Was hoping I could import my PDFs from iBooks. Kinda disappointed 😑.Version: 1.9.7

There are better apps for freeSeems like a great app but when you start adding books to your library you suddenly find out everything is blocked by a pay wall.Version: 1.14.2

A fall from graceInitially loved this app. But 19 books in and it’s laggy and slow, and constant ads for Bookly Pro. Why charge people to read this isn’t kindle!! Loved it at first as it was easy to track my reading and my increasing read speed and the rate at which I was finishing books, however the constant bombardment of ads has dissuaded me from reading. Do not get this app if you’re actually going to read. Also, you can’t function around it without having to pay for Pro, you can’t read more and then you have to pay using reading token to buy another book which takes ages. This is not built for the general reader. Built to encourage capitalism and keep the rich rich. Ridiculous.Version: 1.13.7

Mostly good, some bugs on desktopWhile the app is pretty good and now synced to my iPhone, when I add a quote on the desktop app, the save button doesn't work. This is a pain because it's faster for me to type quotes on my laptop than on my phone. Otherwise good app!.Version: 1.0

Doesn’t work anymore.Used to love this app. Then paid for it to get the premium version. Since payment has gone through the app has stopped working. It no longer recognizes books through scanning. Nor can it search by name. Now you can only add books manually. Feeling scammed:(.Version: 1.8.11

Love the content, but...I love the app and the way it looks. Super easy to use and I like that I can time my reading sessions and all the cute info graphics. But Why can’t there be a one-off payment to use all the features of the app instead of a subscription? I would happily pay for the app, but I’m not going to pay $50/year (AUD) to have more than 10 books on my list..Version: 1.9.23

Reading Streak Changes Between Time ZonesI realize that most people may not have this problem but as part of a military family, I move a lot and it can be from coast to coast. Bookly does not keep it so that a reading session on a specific day in a specific time zone remains that way. If you start a reading session overnight at 11pm but then move from the west coast to the east coast (3 hour time difference), Bookly will say that you missed a day of reading because you started that reading session at 2am the next day. As a paying Bookly Pro customer who has been tracking my stats for YEARS, doing daily reads, and who works night shift so my hours are wonky and I read a lot overnight, it is so irritating to see my progress get messed up. If it really mattered to you, you have to go back and manually change the dates yourself. This is ridiculous to do if you’ve been using Bookly since 2019 and reading daily, like I have. There should be some kind of timezone lock so that your stats don’t get messed up..Version: 1.10.4

No app support?I tired to go to app support but it just took me to the website. I accidentally marked a book as finished and now I can neither change that to reading now nor can I change how many pages I have read. Basically, there is no point to use this book for my daily reading time, since I would have to use a different app to time it and then go back to this one to say I read to my goal and even then I can’t put in pages..Version: 1.12.3

Not as good as it used to be.I like having ways to track habits and Bookly is a great way of tracking my reading. I like how the shows me the current percentage I am we in a book and can give me estimated reading time left as well as per day reading allotments to finish a book by a specified deadline. I have been using Bookly for a little over a year and some of the recent changes have made me enjoy it less, however. The data it provides is still good, but the user interface has gotten much worse. Now, whenever I end a reading session, I have to click through multiple screens to get back to my main shelf. I just want to be done. I don't need to see streaks and gifts (I have never cared about earning diamonds for outfits for the mascot). I have to click three or four times before I can just go back to my home screen and that's with a Pro account. I wish I had an option to turn these off or for them just to go back to the way it was until a few months ago..Version: 1.12.2

Pay to get everything basicallyVery good app and I want to keep on reading, but you just make everybody pay so much. I understand you need a bit of profit, but instead of kind of making the entire app where you have to pay to read books, let people read books for free and log the books they have read and give them their stats. Sure, add a premium where people get extra features like being able to get extra gems and a VIP tag and some other stuff like that but just let people read books for free because that’s the only reason I downloaded this app; to read books. Books are my passion and I’m sure reading books is the passion of many other people and they didn’t come here to pay. Thank you if you understand what I have said and why I have put that rating..Version: 1.11.15

Great! Aside from a paywall for features and full screen ads.Just found out about this app and thought I'd try it. Love the idea of stat tracking for reading. UI I think is well made and everything that the app is specifically designed to do I think is awesome. What's not so awesome is the business model. I understand needing ads for revune when you offer a free product, but full page ads are ridiculous especially when I simply want to just add a book. Secondly the price with what's locked behind the price. For such minuscule feature that do nothing more than expand what's already offered I see no reason why someone couldn't copy everything and, with what's offered for the pro version, and make it free. Or at the very least charge a one time fee. $30 a year for an app is pretty steep when I haven't read anything about the developers planning to add more content through the life of the app. Bug fixes don't count that's should be a given. There isn't anything the app offers that I couldn't do myself with a pen and paper, it's just math. Again I think the idea is great and I'd love to use it and would be willing to buy it once for a single rate fee. But with the ads that take over the entire screen, and simple, easily replicated features locked behind a paywall, it wasn't worth my continued use. If they decide to change their business model I would definitely give it another shot. Until then...I'll stick to doing everything the app offers myself but for free..Version: 1.7

Great app idea with very poor executionI have been using the full (shockingly expensive) lifetime subscription of this app since the beginning of this year. The app is fun and it is vaguely achieving its purpose for me—but it absolutely does not live up to the sticker price for the full subscription. The quality and ease of use on the app is seriously lacking. It is neither smooth nor intuitive. The reading reports sometimes come an entire month late and I often get notifications for them several times even after I have viewed them. For some reason I can’t update my daily reading reminder time (I’ve tried changing it over and over and it always resets to the first time I set it to back in January). The input for audiobooks is woefully lacking and it has resulted in an inaccurate count of my reading progress so far this year. If I could get my money back, I would delete the Bookly app and use LibraryThing instead (which is free, has way cooler data, and is very straightforward). The best thing, by far, about this app is the white noise options on the reading timer page. This was the main reason that I went for the full subscription even though you can actually play all of the different sounds without even paying….Version: 1.11.14
