Jade Empire™: Special Edition for Negative User Reviews

Typical Aspyr rip-offThe controls are horrible, especially on the iPhone. Load times are bad also and it is clear they ported the game without any quality assurance, the same way they did with KOTOR. Good thing I took advantage of the $.99 deal. Update: The quick save crashes all the time to the desktop - still another example of why Aspyr is a fraud company. I have emailed them prior about KOTOR's flaws and they blew me off saying it was my device even though I had friends running into the same issue and it kept happening on multiple devices. Apple should ban them from making games for IOS. "Elegant touch controls???" What a crock of turds! Worst controls ever! Seriously! Fighting and the game makes me change opponents against my will? How many times have I died because of that? Seriously, whoever wrote the controls for this game and the inability to skip repeated cut-scenes should be fired - this is our consumer fraud. Seriously, the person who approved his game as is should be slapped. You have got to be kidding me! Over a year and the quick save still crashes to the desktop? Aspyr you guys are idiots!.Version: 1.0.2

Bad controls. The port is okay in general. It might be good with a controller. The touch controls on the iPhone are HORRIBLE. I find it never moves where I want, the style changes constantly when I’m not touching near that button, and it does AOE attack constantly when I’m clearly over on the basic attack button. I’m playing it on PC at the same time; it is a completely different experience. I would be really POed if I had paid more than 99 cents..Version: 1.0.2

GameplayThe fighting system is extremely difficult for mobile, I recommend changing it to a pausable turn based style if possible..Version: 1.0.2

Terrible ControlsI want to love the game since the story and setting are intriguing, but the controls are just terrible. Dodging and looking around in combat are horrible. I’d much prefer a button option or maybe double tap instead of swiping since it’s so inconsistent.Version: 1.0.2

Horrible GameplayNot what I expected... I thought it would have been a polished port like GTA or other ports that have made it onto mobile but they gameplay is absolutely awful. Some cutscenes become very pixelated as well. Not something I would spend money on....Version: 1.0.2

Mediocrity: iOS port edition.Controls are fine. Game seems fine from a technical point of view; no crashes to speak of during my playtime. Visual components leave a bit to be desired - considering games like Implosion, Infinity Blade, even ones like Aralon, is it really acceptable to see graphics like these? Noodle limbs and shaky modelling with clothes are closer to N64 Duke Nukem than present mobile device standards. No override folder options like in previous comparable entries like KOTOR or Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale entries from the same companies means your modding options don't exist. Lack of content present in the game and sometimes frustrating gameplay design means that while the template for replayability is there, the question is begged for why you'd even want to. Low customisation options is definitely notable. While it may have been a fine game in its time, a true port simply doesn't match the standard of other games around. Especially considering other options available. Considering the game's present state and its glaring limitations, it's not worth the price but still a game that works just fine on an iPhone 6s..Version: 1.0.1

Not really playable on iPhone XThis game seems really cool content-wise, but it is not compatible with my phone. Whenever I try to load a quick save after leaving and reentering the app, the game crashes and I have to return to an earlier save. I’ve contacted Aspyr support and they just told me to turn my phone off and on again (doesn’t help) and then contact Apple support. In addition, the camera makes it really difficult to see what’s going on; the low close angle means I have no idea what’s going on behind me, whether there are enemies or barriers there, etc. The controls are mushy: there’s a half-second lag between input and execution which makes it feel like I’m shouting commands at my character instead of being her. In combat, there is no way to switch what target I’m focusing on. I have to fight the target the game selected for me across the field instead of the one in front of me about to stab me. I hope BioWare plans to fix these issues, but if not I am gonna need a refund because I can’t deal with losing my save file and crashing every time I exit the app..Version: 1.0.2

Boooooo!!!DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! Adaptation to mobile controls in this classic are half assed. The crippled gameplay in combat mode will cause you no end of frustration. Ability to switch targets, which is essential to conquering many big bosses, is completely missing!!! $13.99?! For what? Nostalgia? Money grab rip off..Version: 1.0.2

Great game.... controls ruin itThe graphics and gameplay are great. But the controls... especially during battle make the game difficult at first ... then ( as far as I can tell) unbeatable once you fight The Mother in the caves. The battle requires you be able to move and you can’t. I cannot get past it, even on the easiest settings because of how difficult movement is. Got to give 3 stars for everything else though .... wish I could give 5.Version: 1.0.2

HorribleWorst game ever, controls are stupid. The analog is over the whole screen where other commands are, extremely buggy. Barely playable. I want my money back..Version: 1.0.1

I wanted to like it....The controls are really not adapted well to a touch screen. Kind of felt like carving a turkey with a spoon. Probably could be done but it’s not ideal. On top of that my attack controls disappeared after a while and I had to go back to an older save. I guess I could get a mfi controller but if I do that I will just break out the old Xbox..Version: 1.0.2

Loved the original game but poor coding makes the game difficult to playOriginally I loved this game, but as you play you start to find things that really are so irritating. First off while fighting, your target moves CONSTANTLY, it’s such a pain as you fight an enemy and almost kill him and then it automatically changes your target. Or even better is when it is constantly changing your opponent and you are fighting round and round in circles. You can’t control like on a gaming console which is what you have to expect when using touch screen devices instead of buttons on a controller, but they should have realized this when programming the game. It’s like they just tried to throw this in the market as fast as possible and didn’t even think to fix certain game play aspects. I know the Star Wars: Knights of the old republic had aspects of that game that made it transition easier to a touch screen experience but some of those options should have been brought in to this, or just a whole other outcome... I’m furious because it just makes the game intolerable... no wonder it had such a low rating on the google play store... should be the same here..Version: 1.0.2

FrustratingVery very frustrating, the game although very good, has a few flaws that turn it into an average game at best. There's no mechanics on the cutscenes, so when you die you have to go through all of it again. And believe me there are many. You can speed it up but can't skip. The other major problem is blocking and dodging controls aren't great, on top of that there is a massive reaction delay once you've touched the button, which means you die often and see cutscenes often. Turning a good, quality fun game, into repeatedly losing because of mechanical delays and going through cutscenes 70% of the time you're playing it..Version: 1.0.1

Bug fix neededI had been really enjoying Jade Empire. After playing Star Wars KOTOR, I was super impressed with how the similar dialogue and story options had been adapted to this game. Unfortunately I’m only part way through and I have it a bug at Goa’s workshop. When walking past the firefly a fight is triggered with pirates running in from either door. Unfortunately the ones on entrance leading to Goa get stuck meaning you are blocked from progressing. There seem to be plenty of forums highlighting this issue. Please sort this out as it ruins a great game..Version: 1.0.2

Pretty good game but mfi controller issuesPlay d through the game with the normal controls, which are clunky but you get used to them. I just got a mfi controller and tried to play the game. It works great, EXCEPT, the area attack button is MISSING. It's not in the controller map, it's not even included in the fighting tutorial. It's like that attack, often a crucial move, doesn't exist. That ruins the entire game for me. Why does it say full mfi support and then remove features..Version: 1.0.2

Barely playableWith touchscreen of the iPad,it’s barely playable, fighting is the game work really badly or not at all,the game itself is known as a good oldie but on iPad prefer to get a controller for it,also for some reason it started to uninstall itself for no reason,if it keep doing that,it will be gone..Version: 1.0.2

Not optimizedMy phones time stays on, the remote move my guy to quickly when I’m turning, the hole thing feels unresponsive.Version: 1.0.2

You need to update the control areaYour move and attack area should be not able to interact with the background. I make me change target unexpectedly. This is very frustrating situation when you want to focus on 1 enemy between a bunch of them. The result is your character just die in the lamest way. Please fix. Add the switch target button and make the attack area and move area a safe to click area..Version: 1.0.2

AverageControls are terrible—game *must* be played with a controller. No free-look during combat, lack of target lock causes constant arbitrary target switching during battles with multiple opponents, which is endlessly frustrating. Jade Empire is a good game for the story, but actual gameplay (combat) sucks. Still worth getting if you're feeling nostalgic for the days when Bioware was still a good game company (they dumped this IP after EA took over)..Version: 1.0.1

Where is iphone Xs update????.Version: 1.0.2

Can’t playApp won’t install.Version: 1.0.2

OkayWish this game was compatible with a EVO ce controller. Got the game because I loved playing it and was disappointed that it was not compatible with my new Xbox. Got at MFi controller to us to play wouldn’t work someone suggested an EVO controller only to find out it won’t work :(.Version: 1.0.2

Impossibly frustratingThere may be a good game here somewhere, but the controls are a horrifically frustrating mess... Even the first couple of fights on what's essentially a tutorial section before the main story seem impossible, with nothing responding fast enough and the character seemingly moving randomly - I'm alright at video games (I promise!) so either I'm doing something very wrong or this is just broken..Version: 1.0.1

Awesome game! Not supported anymore. This is an awesome game that’s filled with content. It’ll definitely take you awhile to finish. Problem is it hasn’t been updated in over 2 years. Newer iOS devices like iPhone X are not supported, so the screen size is squashed when you try to play it. Generally when an app hasn’t been updated in over 2 years, it’s a sure sign that it won’t be updated anymore..Version: 1.0.2

The Game is good butThe story is too clichéd, like I can already predict what is really going to happen next and manage to get it right. The gameplay is good but I focus more on the story. If you're after gameplay, this game is for you, however, it gets buggy sometimes..Version: 1.0.2

Kung FoolThis game is unplayable with an iPad Pro. The reason is the abysmal control scheme and bizarre camera angles. I literally cannot get past the opening act of the game. I enter the scene and am immediately locked in place for an over the shoulder view of my pummelling and just die repeatedly. iPads/iPhones simply do not offer effective control for action based games. This might be a good game on another platform, but feels wonky and unwieldy on my iPad..Version: 1.0.2

Nostalgia in your pocketQuality RPG and brilliant port, the only thing holding it back from a higher rating is the lack of full screen support/resolution for the iPhone XS Max. You’ve done it for Star Wars KOTOR, so why not Jade Empire? Please update this and you’ll get 5 stars from me.Version: 1.0.2

The. G-d. D—m. Camera. The auto targeting in this game is a complete mess. In any fight with more than one or two opponents it switches around constantly, jumping from one target to the next like a rodent on meth. Which leaves your character spinning in place like a top and unable to finish anyone off. The camera can’t handle confined spaces. Whenever you’re in a wall or corner it zooms out so you can’t see your character anymore, making it impossible to fight. Oh yeah, and you are constantly fighting large groups in enclosed spaces. Love the ideas and ambition, but you’ll spend more time fighting the controls than the enemy ninjas..Version: 1.0.2

Poor controls ruin gameplayIt’s a beautiful game with a good story line, but the controls during battles are abysmal - it’s not just that it’s frustrating, it is *impossible* to defeat certain characters because the controls don’t permit you to change focus during battle. This is beyond ridiculous. Don’t waste your time and money..Version: 1.0.2

Impossible controlsI am a massive fan of the developer, but I deleted this game after less than an hour of frustration. The controls are impossible, especially in combat where they are far too close together. Really disappointed..Version: 1.0.1

Disappointed...Honest Review.First off, let me say I loved Jade Empire on Xbox. However, This has game has been a huge disappointment and I regret buying it. It seems to be an exact port of the original. It’s been many years since playing the original, but I don’t know what is “special” about this edition. 1. The graphics are not hi-res and the game does not optimize the current technology. It looks old. 2. The game screen does not optimize the iPhone XRs screen. The play screen is a lot smaller than it should be, and leaves a large black border around the screen. 3. This causes the buttons to be very small, making controlling the character very difficult. 4. I’m not even 20 minutes into the game and I doubt I turn it on again. Very disappointed. 5. Would like to see this game optimize the current tech. 6. This game has been over hyped. Really wanted a stand alone game, I could enjoy without all the P2w crap. This isn’t it..Version: 1.0.2

As the other guy said...Absolutely f'n horrible game on mobile, controls are completely bugged to the sht. Even on easy mode impossible to get past first boss with even expert controls let alone the horrid standard controls. Was unreal game on Xbox but on mobile it's a complete joke..Version: 1.0.1

Almost uncontrollableA nice game that ticked all the boxes ruined by terrible controls on IPad. For the asking price this is very concerning, the game design is fairly basic having to find and exit different gates , but the genre and narrative make it ostensibly appealing and worth sticking with ...... that is until the shockingly bad controls made me rage quit in frustration. The collision is not always accurate and the character will often continue a run cycle into various objects and characters. I recommend avoiding this game , lazy dev with top tier pricing a bad combination..Version: 1.0.2

Doesn’t support new iPad Pro 11” screenThis game hasn’t been updated to support the new iPad Pro 11” screen size, there are big black borders on all sides, please update your app!.Version: 1.0.2

Combat controls ruin an otherwise interesting game.I never played the console or PC version of the game, but was a big fan of KOTOR as well as the mobile port of it (highly recommend) so figured I’d give this a shot when I heard it was from the same developers. There are some similarities, but the thing that made KOTOR shine on the mobile port, the nicely animated but essentially turn-based-dice-roll combat system is not here. Instead it’s a fairly fast paced reactive combat system that simply doesn’t work well on mobile. I switched the difficulty to easy to get through the first section of the game with less frustration but between the annoying “lock-on” targeting system that switches between enemies seemingly randomly and then doesn’t allow you to move freely and the general clunky layout of the controls, I was more frustrated than entertained after about an hour of gameplay. It’s especially disappointing because the story telling and character leveling system seemed fairly interesting and unique and made me want to progress further. Just not worth the terrible controls. Don’t waste $10 like I did. If you haven’t played KOTOR, go buy it, even if you aren’t a big Star Wars fan, it’s a great game. If you have played it and are looking for more, I think you’re out of luck. It seems unlikely a KOTOR 2 port is coming at this point, and Jade Empire falls painfully short..Version: 1.0.2

IPhone X screen supportGreat port of legendary game but please update it to support iPhone X as its unplayable atm. KOTOR should get it as well. More people going to buy it....Version: 1.0.2

BugOverall love the game the targeting can be annoying but I find it easy Orr to deal with then the cutscenes I’m on iPhone 11 and the cutscenes have the auto cutting out constantly I think if it was up dated and just fixed the 2 main issues it would be rated 5 stars easily but due to not being able to listen to some of the cutscenes u are missing out on some of the story to the game.Version: 1.0.2

Jade Empire iOS Movement Buttons don't workThe left movement arrow in combat is always highlighted. I cannot move and so the game is unplayable. I wrote support and got emails saying my support request had been received, but then never got a follow up with an answer. I have an iPhone 6s+ and a 12" iPad Pro, both running, iOS 12.3.1 and Jade Empire 1.0.2. Both devices show the same issue..Version: 1.0.2
