Does not recognise Bluetooth is enabledThe app constantly tells me to enable Bluetooth, but Bluetooth is already enabled. Might be the reason I cannot add any devices . As normal, the pairing process is hit and miss and yet another product which doesn’t meet the mark. I am sure it would be fine if I could pair, but pairing isn’t working..Version: 4.6.2

Not accessible for the blindI got a smart power strip so I can manage my server and the external hard drive. I installed the app and I couldn’t even get my account created. Somehow, I managed to get it linked with my google account. Then it took some more messing around with the app and it’s inaccessible buttons and then I figured out how to get it added, which I did get going. But I can’t manage the thing at all. If I tap on the title of the device it does not do anything, like it does in virtually all other smart apps. The buttons have weird things such as “ty” before the thing. The way that VoiceOver reads it is something like “Ty open device add.” Also, half the time I press a button in the app it doesn’t press the button. That is why I gave this app one star, because it has no accessibility. If it was a game, then this review would be different, but this is a smart home app, and it should be accessible..Version: 3.34.5

Was good - bring back device widgetsWhy do you do this? The device widget worked fine and at night I don’t want to wake up my partner so could just switch off a device from the home screen without using voice control. You keep removing the device widget and trying to put Voice Control in its place and then when people say they want the widget you put it back. Which bit of ‘leave it alone’ are you having difficulty with? I use Alexa and don’t want your version. Also why not enable the native Apple touch ID rather than the clunky pattern lock to sign in? Please restore the device widgets. Added comment - I have just discovered (why not announce the fact) that restarting my phone (which I don’t do very often) after an update will restore the widgets. A notification that this is the case would save a lot of frustration..Version: 3.35.3

Stop sending me out of settings!I have my alarm clock connected to this app, and I change the settings for my alarms through it. The issue is is that it will constantly close the options and settings while i’m still scrolling through them, it also resets the changes I make so I have to choose an option, save, repeat when I’m trying to do more than one change..Version: 3.29.0

Spent 30mins and still can’t connect my deviceOverall very poor quality: starting from the spelling mistakes in the printed guide and app, to the fact that the device just wont’t connect. Useful devices but unreliable companyI have been using smart life devices mainly the wifi breakers. They work well and are somewhat easy to connect and configure. Buggy as hellI open it to switch off a light and it stops Apple Music from playing. FFS! I used to have a group of devices (lights) that I could control as one, but when I shifted to Apple it stopped working. Control of devices is inconsistent. Smart switchI bought a smart switch about 2 months ago, easy install and WiFi setup. I set it up for my outside garage lights and setup the timer function. Everything worked great until they made an update to the app. After the update the timer function stopped working I had to delete the app and perform a complete setup like new. This worked for 2 days then the timer stopped working again. WiFi works great and I can turn on the light through the app so communications are there. I set 2 emails on the feedback page and no response or acknowledgement of this issue. As someone else stated the temp is c and not f. Why as for location if it’s going to default and stay on c? I would easily give this product 5* if they can fix the bugs. Please don’t push an update until you’ve tested it several time..Version: 2.9.3

A question more than reviewI bought two of these set up was easy enough to be fair. However I’ve the two set up either side of my living room set up with the smart life app with Alexa. My two sky mini boxes upstairs have started disconnecting from the main box I’ve spent over 8 hours on phone to BT & SKY in the last week trying to to get to the bottom of the problem. Lay in bed last night had a light bulb moment went down and disconnected all plugs and hey presto ..mini boxes seem fine..will look at trying to install plugs on 5ghz which SKY is on 2.4 and see how we go..Version: 3.24.0

Electrical UsageI got the outdoor plug for the main reason that it allowed the recording of all the electrical usage and statistics. I knew this from other people who owned this app and the device that goes with it. When I bought it a day or two ago my app didn’t allow me to see the power used. Avoid if your a VoiceOver userI was recommended this app by another blind user because it was usable with VoiceOver. So I got my accessories, I got them set up, but then I found the app was barely usable with VoiceOver. I could schedule automations with difficulty, but most buttons had no VoiceOver labels, then an update came out that broke the limited functionality I could use. So I wrote to support, support clearly isn't English As I got two line responses from them, they clearly didn't understand the issues and seemed to think I was asking them to add a feature to the app. Most buttons don't work with VoiceOver, and you can't even create an account using VoiceOver. So avoid it and accessories it uses if you are blind..Version: 3.35.0

Wifi socket not updatingI run a pool pump off a wifi power socket plug and regularly change the times it runs based on the weather conditions. I have noticed the updated schedules don’t always sync and have to manually check that the timer is functioning correctly very frustrated!.Version: 3.35.1

Heating schedule function poorI have numerous Herschel infrared heating panels in my home and trying to get them to work on a schedule through this app is an absolute nightmare... they keep just doing what they like to put it simply.. technical support keep telling me to ‘delete’ and ‘re-add’ the thermostats, however this never seems to solve it.. also every time I delete and re-add I have to set the whole schedule again, which is not exactly a nice user experience to say the least! I have ‘Hive’ in another home and the user experience on that is ten times better, with the ability to add as many time slots as you like and also copy and paste schedules from one day to another.. also if the devices go offline due to a power cut for example it doesn’t forget the schedule like these seem to.. it just ‘works’ .. !!.Version: 3.24.0

Horribly buggyWas a decent app at first, now they’ve built too much without much testing. I can never turn any of my electrical heating devices on without repeatedly pushing the power button on the app. It’s terribly unresponsive. Annoyingly one time, I thought after tapping the power button to turn of a heater, it had turned off. I exited the app quickly as is usually do, but came to find the heating was still on the next day because the app didn’t as it should have and left the heating on for an entire day as I was out. This has now happened a few times and I’ve found I’m literally fighting with the power button to get it function. Needless to say I don’t look forward to receiving the electric bill!.Version: 4.5.3

Getting full of bloatwareThis used to be a very slick app and over the recent months features have been removed that were very useful, like for example, bespoke icons attached to each device. They say this has been removed for privacy et cetera, which is a Half Baked excuse considering what other data they monitor. There are also other sections to this app that simply don’t need to be there advising you to do this and do the other and also a huge Weather page which is really not much use at all half the time it is incorrect. I personally am now considering getting rid of all these devices and looking at something that’s more amenable and simple to use..Version: 4.4.2

Good but not perfectI like this bulb it is easy to set up and turns on and off as expected. However after a few months it decided it didn’t like early starts and stopped switching on as my alarm. So I cleared all the on and off settings and yay it worked again, for a couple of days then stopped. At the moment it sometimes switches on but mostly can’t be bothered. So if you don't want to wake up to it, it’s great however if you want to use it as a gentle alarm either get a back up or forget it!.Version: 3.27.0

New app and updateHi, I just got the led strip lights, the one that connects to your phone app and was wondering why it doesn’t work? I’ve tried the ap method as well as the ez method but I couldn’t connect. Also, the instruction sheet shows examples of connecting through pictures that do not look like the home app. I don’t know if it’s the new update, but the app shows more led strip light connecting options rather than the one option showed in the Manual. Great until they changed itI’ve had my multiple socket extension cable set up for over a year now and it was great because it had a button to turn the whole strip off, or buttons for each individual socket. Now there’s no button to turn the whole thing off. Also all of my sockets were named and they now aren’t. There doesn’t appear to be an option to name them again. I have a different item plugged into each socket and now if i forget what is plugged into each socket i could end up turning the wrong thing on/off because god knows which button on the app relates to which socket. A fundamental questionThat any app developer needs to ask, is it better to try to be everything to everyone and do it to a mediocre standard or to focus on a few things and to do them incredibly well. The app is average, it feels like it needs a big refresh. It seems most devices can be added but the function of them is limited within the app itself, after two plus years I still haven’t worked out how to set up automations - there is no simple logical workflow and it is also quite laggy. There is also no link with apple home and despite it appearing in the settings it doesn’t seem to do anything. It also no longer appears to push device name or status changes to Alexa which I think it did do in the past. It needs a refresh and it needs to focus on doing things better and including the matter standard..Version: 5.3.1

Confusing confusing confusingI’ve had a single lightbulb attached to this app for about a year. I changed my Wi-Fi in my house and now for the life of me I cannot figure out how to reconnect this light. No where does it say where to connect the Wi-Fi or even anything in the Q&A. This is literally the worst app with the most confusing directions ever. It’s even asking me to complete my set up and when I go to enter my information it says I already exist. This is literally the worst. And to make it even worse it updated over Christmas and deleted my scheduled light and a neighbourhood burglar saw that my house was dark and broke in and stole a bunch of jewelry. True story. An average user experienceLet me schedule my robot mower to mow a zone on a time schedule rather than percent. I should be able to add a schedule that defines what zone to work in. There is so much potential to expose data about what the device is doing, instead I get a go button and not much else. Overall the UX is a really average design, I don’t think you have thought much about your users.Version: 3.27.0

Needs Siri shortcut integrationThis app is great, works well with Alexa but i really wish it had some form of Siri shortcut integration. Or at least some form of widget that i could add to my iphones home screen. If you go to third part services tab then you’ll find Alexa, smart things,google assistant and iftt but Siri shortcut just isn't there. Its a shame too ,cause i want to use widgets on my phone to control my smart plug and without this app having its own widget or having some form of Siri shortcut integration,i cant do that. Closest thing i can do is to download smart things or google assistant which do have widgets but controlling the smart plug through those widgets opens up their apps which is just an added inconvenience..Version: 5.2.2

Used to be great, now worthlessWhen I first installed the app a couple years ago, it was amazing! But now, completely worthless. Nothing in my house has changed; same Wi-Fi, same switches, same phone, same network, everything is the same. The app no longer discovers anything. The devices worked great right up until the power went out and everything disconnected. When everything came back up, the app only connected to 3 of the switches automatically. I thought “no big deal, I’ll reset and reconnect”. I have 18 devices in my house, the app can’t discover ANY of them. Kasa works great for my TP-link switches, eWeLink and Geeni work great for all the other devices. Smart Life can’t find ANYTHING! I deleted the app and reinstalled it and still nothing, even joined the beta test-flight program and still nothing. Tried creating a new account, nothing. Only thing that was there was the 3 switches that were already connected to the account, but now 2 of those have dropped off so I loved them to Geeni as well. It’s a shame to see an app that was by far one of the best, turn to the worst..Version: 3.24.5

What rubbishIt’s a nightmare to set up and get devices connected. And once you managed the impossible by spending way longer than you should - the programming stopped turning on half the devices and it’s impossible to get it working again. Documentation also sucks. Removed Device Icon CustomisationThe app is generally ok but since the last few updates, they've made the decision to remove the ability to customise icons for devices and groups. I loved being able to make all my icons consistent and show each device clearly, on the Devices widget but this has now been disabled because of "Data Privacy", which makes no sense at all, but that's all they'll say about it. I've tried complaining but they just say that's that and this feature won't be coming back, without any reasonable explanation of why, other than this "data privacy" nonsense. As for the Devices widget, every update to Smart Life removes this and the "Tap-To-Run" shortcuts widget from the Today screen and replaces them with a useless and non-functioning "Voice Assistant" thing, as many people have commented. You have to delete that one then restart the phone, at which point you can re-add the old widgets and move them to the positions you want them, on the Today screen. So, they're still there but you have to go through this faff every time the gets an update. Removing icon-customisation though is very annoying, especially when it's for no good reason...Version: 3.33.6

Watch app is completely uselessThe main app is relatively straight-forward to setup and use, though constantly needed a pattern lock seems a bit redundant - I’m using it to turn on a lamp, not enter a bank vault. My biggest bugbear with it though is the watch app, which whilst it worked, worked really well. However for the last few month it’s been completely useless, asking me to open the app on my phone to complete set-up. Having done that, and seeing my devices listed the watch app doesn’t change. It’s been installed and reinstalled, but still no joy. Why can’t it work the way it did before?.Version: 3.35.6

Terrible customer serviceOne of the worst customer service experiences when it comes to getting help with setting up a device. Answers I was provided with were extremely unhelpful, and everything is ‘always a problem from the device manufacturer side, rather than the app’ - which is ridiculous as the device is working fine. Can’t set my own icon any moreI purchased eight Teckin smart plugs a year ago and they have worked consistently well since with the Smart Life app. However, I bought some more plugs and found that the app no longer lets me assign a photo icon to individual plugs. What’s more, when I tried to reassign one of the old plugs to a different location and photo, the app allocated a “socket” icon to it and I cannot change it now. This seems to me a backward step, and I can’t believe it was a deliberate decision to remove this handy feature. So is it a software bug?.Version: 3.33.5

Always exusesThis app was great when they started. Now it is more laggy and outdated and broken. Well all smart functions like add our own pictures under sockets or switches became unavailable because the company claim crap about law. Also widgets removed and replaced with voice and again only excuses from company why they can not do it. Look on Philips they can still do widgets and you can not? Joke. This company is going down the road and I hole there will be someone else who will be interested to be smart. This company has only excuses and can not even provided proof on what they are saying and always blame someone or something to at fault. Updates continue to break functionalityBEWARE if you plan to update, it seems each release breaks key features entirely. The Devive Widget was one of my most used features and I loved the ability to swipe over and quickly toggle any home device from the widget screen. That was recently made much less reliable and now removed entirely in favor of a useless "voice assistant". I will update this if anything changes but the current state of this app is incredibly poor for what its supposed to do. Edit: restarting phone has brought back device widget mysteriously. The app has still been missing the functionality to long press and toggle devices in recent releases and the device widget does not show outlet status very reliably. Hopefully more bug fixes to come.Version: 3.35.6

Inaccurate temperatureWould be a 5 star review if it had more accurate weather forecast. The applets turn our fans on and off during the hottest parts of the day. Other than that excellent for connecting all of our devices together..Version: 4.4.4

Recent update has killed app functionalitySince the update to 5.3.2 (I used to be on 5.3.0) I cannot see the device info, check firmware/network/settings and so forth. The only option that works is power on/off which is useless for dimmers. Can’t see air quality monitoring, can’t open/close curtains or blinds. All that happens is my phone shows a small window with an exclamation mark and the words “Failed to load”. Please sort the app out or put 5.3.0 back on as 5.3.3 so it updates and “works” again. Another unfortunate case of adding or fixing something actually breaks a lot more. This is also the case when 5,3.2 was tried on another device (that has never previously had the app on it) as well as my wife’s phone that also now updated does not work..Version: 5.3.2

Better integrationThe app is simply a way to get the device onto the network. Make that experience great. I would rather you spend time building better integration with voice assistants and third parties instead of reinventing functionality that is already available with Alexa and HomeKit and all the other big players. I want to manage my devices in one location not in every hardware vendors app..Version: 3.34.0

Great potential butThis app has great potential but it has been my personal conclusion that this company’s mission appears to be more vested in adding more compatible devices to this app instead of focusing on adding features or resolving bug fixes for products that already support it. Coming from the ecosystem of WeMo I did not expect to see such a lack of features for a smart device app. I have had WeMo devices inside my house for over 5 years and over time the company did nothing but add features and improve upon itself. How can this company do the same as they do NOT support just a limited number of devices but instead support almost too many to count. Programming in this app is not straight forward. For example to set a device to turn on at sunset you have to create a “scene” in a completely different section of the app. Very confusing as this should simply be coupled with the timed schedule feature. In addition there is not the ability to program an offset time before or after sunset/sunrise. Also, the countdown timer cannot be coupled with a timed schedule. This is annoying as I only want my lights to run for 4 hours everyday 15 minutes after sunset and then I do not want them to be on past 11:00pm. This is impossible to program within this app but not WeMo..Version: 3.6.0

God awful productI got the Teckin smart bulbs and I’ve literally been trying for 4 days to get them to work. It’s been such a waste of time trying to get these damned things to actually pair up, as well as trying to contact the company to offer any kind of assistance. Do not purchase this product, there are far far better products out there. Just don’t make the mistake I did and pay far to much for trash bulbs, when the dollar store offers more reliable products The only satisfaction I will get from this product is when I inevitably smash these damned lightbulbs.Version: 3.22.0

Room scenes are frustratingThe app works well, but when you create a room you cannot seem to have a central theme to use across them all, you still have to go into each bulb and create, save and activate themes. This is the same with creating a “room” it allows you to do so but you still have to add bulbs manually to a schedule which defeats the point of it..Version: 3.38.1

Very annoyingEdit 17 Jan 2022. Even worse now that the ability to customise icons has been removed. Hint, if you have custom icons for your devices don’t try to change them or reset, in the latest version of the app every device type has a fixed icon so you can’t quickly identify which appliance you’re switching! Original: Everything works well except for constant “Timer Failed” alerts for non existent events. Also, I don’t want the weather displayed, but I can’t turn it off. When the app loads I have to wait for the weather to load as well, and that takes longer. Then the screen suddenly moves down to accommodate the weather data and I find I’ve tapped the wrong switch because the positions have changed. Small points, but irritating!.Version: 3.35.0

Terrible appWorked perfectly fine for about 6 months. then out of nowhere one of the bulbs i ordered completely broke on me. but you’d hope that when a lightbulb stopped working it would just shut off. nope. whatever’s happening here is managing to actually shine fully white/yellow and about 3/4 of the colorwheel works. however when you start reaching the reds and yellows in the wheel the color completely dims to a dim red. and the worst part is when you turn off the bulb through the app, the broken bulb STAYS ON with the dim red light. makes absolutely 0 sense. ive tried repairing the bulb dozens of times to no avail. and i write all of this before mentioning the countless bugs, delays, random layout changes that are NOTHING like their previous version leaving you completely clueless as to how to work your lightbulbs. i bought these so my room could look like cool colors, not to get a headache all the time. fix this app now please..Version: 3.28.5

Stop breaking your app & widget with updatesOne day the manual widget appears on my phone & works, the next it’s gone again and replaced with a useless ‘voice assistant’. Initially devices worked well but.....To begin with I had an uninterrupted 4-5 months of automation and voice control bliss. It was excellent. Then one day (March 2021) all my devices on the smart life app were offline. I’ve been trying to reconnect them for hours with no luck. I’ve even deleted the lot and tried to start again, still no luck. I’ll keep going for a day or so before contacting the retailer as this is so annoying not having the ability to reconnect and item that has lost the WiFi signal or connection. Having to go through complete setup again is driving me mad. I’m on the verge of going down the local network route so my devices do not need to rely on WiFi. Not a pleasant app to useI have used this app for some time on my iPad, however following a recent update, the app’s layout is now permanently stuck in landscape mode, defeating the option users have to determine their own layout - portrait mode or landscape - by using the rotation option in the IOS Control Centre. So while the app stil works, it is an unpleasant experience. I will look for an alternative A new update for this app was processed today, 27 July, but I STILL CANT USE IT because it is delivered in landscape mode, with no use-ability to change it to portrait mode. Update bricked the app!!After the update you can't use any of the devices anymore. They all get "failed to load," prompt. Older device which I haven't updated didn't have this issue at all. They are really pushing some shoddy updates without testing..Version: 5.3.2

Recent issuesWhen I first started with smart life it was a real pain connecting to my network. Eventually I managed to sort out the problems and we have managed well until recently, when suddenly Google has been unable to talk to smart life. I have disconnected them in an attempt to reconnect and sort the problem, however smart life now refuses to connect to Google at all. Now either this is an updating issue or maintenance issue or this is a problem that I am going to struggle with for the foreseeable future..Version: 3.34.0

Update August 21The latest update has changed how the interface looks. The weather banner takes up too much of the screen now plus I can no longer change to list view which was my original setting, it’s not possible to change the layout style now. Stay away. Lots of pairing issuesApp and the products that are supported by this app are not connecting with each other. I know review should be about app only and not product, but as a consumer we buy both in a package to work together. My review was wrote after consulting with few tech expert friends. I have purchased intercom system, smart switches, lights, cabinet light etc from different vendor and they all using same this app so i thought it should be easy life. Only one device (door bell) was able to only connect to app once, and within a second app locked(bind) that device, dont know why, and now each time i try to pair device to app, it says device is already connected and i need to apply to unbind the device > i did that > and same result because (app)company didnt really unbind the device. Device seller says their device is fine and its app’s issue and app says go to device seller. Out of anger i throw all their device in bin and bought certified devices from bunnings..Version: 3.35.2

Stopped working and app support is in ChineseThe outlet devices worked great initially. So great that I ordered two more. Of course within days of the arrival of the new set the first set stopped working. Multiple attempts to reset failed. Trying to connect the new outlets failed. I followed the Troubleshooting directions, re-downloaded the app twice, reset my router and when all that failed I tried to contact support. There appears to be no help request within the app but I found a message about an upgrade causing issues. Unfortunately it appears there is more to the message but there is no way to expand it so I am left in the dark. So I tried to submit the help request through the Link on the App Store but found it launches a website in Chinese. Unfortunately I don’t read Chinese. I have to give this app 1 star. I will be happy to upgrade my rating if I can get some help AND they agree to make some app changes that will make it easier for users to read messages and to submit help requests in the future..Version: 3.6.0

Shockingly bad design for thermostat controlI use this app because the manufacturer of my thermostat stipulated it. It is really awful in my opinion. It seems you have to program your daily routine day-by-day. I couldn’t see a facility where, having programmed in Monday’s routine, you could copy that across to any, or every, other day of the week. Even the Hive app lets you do that. So I had to program in the same routine separately for each day of the week. That’s really boring. Also the app control panel for temperature control is hyper-sensitive. The temperature setting changes to maximum (37C) if you touch the screen anywhere, rather than the alteration being made on just the slider button. Mad. At least it links to Alexa fairly seamlessly and she knows what she’s doing!.Version: 3.22.0

Some bits of it work wellThis app has a feature for statistics which is supposed to show you how much energy an appliance uses each month or year. The data is there but viewing it properly is difficult or impossible. The user interface is broken and has been for years. How they can fail to fix simple things like fitting data on a screen, having scroll bars that work and presenting a total for energy consumed is a mystery. It won’t show last year’s totals so you can’t compare year by year. Each device has a different user interface which is very annoying. It looks like the programmer got 80% of the job done then retired. The app does a good job of scheduling on/off times for smart switches..Version: 3.31.5

Used to work, apparently device disappeared off the appI used to love this app, it let me control my LED bulb perfectly. Until a storm happened, messing with the electricity for a while. When everything came back to normal, I tried to use my smart bulb again with this app and failed to. I tried to remove the device from my app and reconnect and it has never reconnected. The scan feature is useless, never detecting my light bulb and even stranger: the name of my lightbulb is gone from the app. In my messages section of the app it shows the LED lightbulb that was once connected, it has a completely different icon than the other devices available for pairing. I’m not sure if this app just spontaneously decided to remove the lightbulb from the app since it’s the only way to control it or what, but connecting this has been impossible. I’ve made sure it’s in pairing mode, near the router, on the same network, but nothing works. I’ve spent multiple days trying to connect this to no avail. So disappointed in a once good app..Version: 4.6.2

Good start but needs improvementPretty good but lacks features you would expect in a modern app No ability to reorganize or prioritize device groups or devices and the order they’re displayed in. Can’t do this on screen for rooms or for all devices. No way to reorder. So if you add a group after adding the devices- which you have to do in that order - the group appears at the bottom of the list. Frustrating when a room may have 8 or 10 lights. Should be able to put the group at the top. Light Dimming performance is terrible. I’ve tried with four different brands of LED’s and smart bulbs - from single up to groups of 8. Can’t dim any below about 40-50%, even though manufacturers say can dim to 8%. Clear flaw in app. Very little feedback when device is pairing. Basically you just sit there and watch clock ticking down for 1.5 minutes. Should give info on what the app is doing, so user can make a decision to cancel pairing earlier if it’s obviously not going to work/pair..Version: 3.32.7

All the devices disappeared from the app!Smart life contact/help email does not work!!!! I’ve tried it, but it isn’t recognized as a viable email and thus my email can’t be sent. I’m considering switching to WEMO as they appear to be far more reliable with the 2 devices I have. But my 10+ Smartlife devices are no longer cooperating or showing in my app. Previous review. But individually they will not function and after the last update they’ve all disappeared from my app. I can no longer operate them from the app or individually via Alexa. Stuck! It’s semi frozenI’m new to this app and have it as one device uses it, the heater in my babies room. I thought it would be fantastic and allow me to set times for the heater and temp goals throughout the week. But no I can’t work it out, every time I want to do something I have to put in a password- like for every setting! And now it’s seems frozen and I can’t reduce the temperature. I’ve updated and refreshed and can get to the room but can clock anything to create change. Very disappointing app. I have another similar for other devices around my home that’s is amazing. When it works, it’s good, but lacks some important features.Individual devices almost always turn on and off if switched individually. Scenes regularly fail, with many of the devices not switching. It’s definitely not a connectivity issue, since those devices can be switched manually. Room for improvement: automation could use additional features. Lights on at sunset are useful, but the ability to add a random (+/-15 minutes) time shift to an automated action, and a fixed time shift (+/- any amount of time) to automation would be huge. Adding a random time shift to automation is a security feature, making it seem as if someone might actually be home to turn the lights on. The fixed time shift would allow for lights to come on a set amount of time before sunset, since by the time the sun sets, it’s already too dark inside..Version: 3.8.0

UselessHas worked fine for almost two years, they revamped the app and now the entire device doesn’t work. Can’t set up anything. I can’t manually add the device, nor is the sunset lamp even an option while manually adding. $100 gone due to an app update..Version: 4.7.2

Counterintuitive UI that just doesn’t workI’ve had two Smart Life plugs for a couple of years. After initial set-up, with some difficulty, everything worked fine for about 18 months and then, we’ll, not do much. I don’t know if it was an app update or what, but I lost my settings, including Alexa skills for both plugs and while I was able to get one working, the other won’t work consistently. I have tried several times, but my great room lamp won’t turn on as scheduled, so I have to do it manually. It will turn off as scheduled however. I sometimes wonder if the UI designers actually test their interface when one is as counterintuitive as this one. “Switch One” is on, but doesn’t that imply there could be a Switch Two for off, you there is no option to add Switch Two - the off switch is also Switch One. There are many ways to design a more intuitive interface for something as simple as on-off at scheduled times. I’m going to have to trash these plugs and this app and buy something better. Badly broken by recent updatesThis app used to be pretty reliable, but the recent 4.3.0 and 4.3.1 releases are a disaster. The power icon for all my smart light controllers has now changed to the “no bluetooth” icon, so it’s not possible to see at a glance what is switched on. (That is nothing to do with whether bluetooth is enabled on the phone either.) Trying to scroll up and down through a long list of devices now doesn’t always work, but, much worse, seems to run the risk of turning on some random device. Lighting groups no longer reliably show the correct power status either. For an application that is controlling electrical devices installed in people’s houses this is totally unacceptable quality control. Hopefully the developers will start to take quality control seriously now, otherwise the whole Tuya smart ecosystem will be destroyed as users reluctantly start ripping out their smart devices and replacing them with a setup that can be trusted..Version: 4.3.1

Energy Saving change is ridiculousWhat was previously the only part of the app I really used has now been turned into some ‘value-add’ service costing $40/year. I can’t access any of my previous data, look at my previous energy usage, can’t look at current energy usage by device. I CAN DO NOTHING. Why this update has forced a change on the app is ridiculous and I simply won’t be using it any more if this change is staying. There’s plenty of other apps which provide similar energy monitoring for free..Version: 4.6.0

No longer working on iPadThis app crashes at launch on my iPad, after many seconds appearing to load. It has always been flaky on the iPad but still works ok on an iPhone thankfully as my entire house depends on it! The iPad version (when it worked) only loads in one orientation of landscape. Rotating the device 90 or even 180degrees doesn’t rotate the screen which is really annoying when you have a lot of home devices set up and want to scroll through them… The iPad version would always reboot every time I opened it, taking many seconds and never started in Scenes mode, you have to select it and wait for reload every time… It would take 2 taps to get from “Home” to “Scene/Automation” to “Scene/Tap-to-Run” every time I want to switch something BUT NOW IT DOESN’T EVEN DO THAT! Also I am concerned about the number of Privacy permissions required - why would a wifi control app need your Contacts? Time to seek an alternative….Version: 4.3.2

Horrible instructions to connect AlexaIt tells you after you enable the skill in Alexa app to login to this app again to “link now” — but there’s no way to actually log out of the app and there is no place to find the “link now” button as is pictured in the directions. It’s such a simple thing, if the app developer can’t handle the setup instructions the. You just won’t get more than one star. You shouldn’t have to be an engineer to use the app guys. Get with it. Ok finally figured out how to log out. But I log back in and the screen is not as pictured in the setup instructions. Still one star. To your credit, I have set up smart switches from 6 or 8 different brands and none of them are great. The switches that is. I at least got the others set up. Not this one so far. Update: Finally figured it out by accident. Instructions tell you to go back to the app where you originally registered your account. I did that and was still logged in and so I logged out and back in just trying to get the screen that was shown in the instructions. Never showed that screen. So I went back to the App Store and acted like I was adding the app again from the start, and it finally let me login again to a screen that would actually link to Alexa. Perhaps an Alexa issue and not this app? But still not a good experience..Version: 3.7.5

App has its share of issuesI like the idea of the app and enjoy some of its features. It is a mess to program and has a lot of bugs within itself. I wish the app was a little more user friendly as well. It shouldn’t be this difficult to set up a set of bulbs in a program. Programming in Java is easier than this program sometimes. If you have a smart home where you and your spouse set up different programs and use different bulbs good luck with this app. It’s frustrating because if I set up my spouse’s lighting, then I’m the main controller to the bulbs and she has to use my app to modify things. That is poor oversight on this apps developer. Some of your users might share spaces. I give this app 3 stars because after the frustrating set up, it works smoothly most of the time. It still has some bugs and glitches but it isn’t a bad app overall. One huge concern for me is location services it uses. I disabled it because I assume it’s an innocent feature on the surface, but unless it’s a weather app or map app I will always refuse an app to have my location. This app gets kudos that it doesn’t refuse to work if disabled so points for them in that. If you are concerned about privacy immediately turn that off after installing..Version: 3.18.1

Network errorApp was working great until I got a network error and it didn’t allow me to access online features. I tried to reinstall the app but now when attempting to log in I get a network error. Smart Life softwareThe app for the camera actually functions ok. Trying to review triggered events is painful. The cameras are great wireless is easy to setup. Battery life in a high traffic area is not fantastic but you can recharge the batteries in a few hours. I do have a solar charger but unless you have perfect direct sunlight you won’t get much of a charge. The viewing of events is like trying to view a you tube filmstrip and it’s a main. I have other inside cameras that use a much better file structure. They should fix this method of viewing recorded clips. Also when you look at the trigger messages it would be great if you could go directly to the actual stored event not a silly filmstrip. I have 4 cameras using this app and I like it. The software just needs to be a bit more mature..Version: 3.26.5

No tap to run scenesRating because it’s stupid that you can only tap to run to turn on lights however you can’t have them set to a specific colour or scene colour mode. Latest update cannot add Wifi devices (Nov20)After using this app for last few years without issue I purchased some more Teckin sockets and some Lvwit bulbs to add to my setup. Unfortunately after many hours trying with both modes of connection (broadcast ‘EZ Mode’ and pairing ‘AP Mode’) using two different routers and broadband connections (at two different properties) I simply could not get the Smartlife app to add any of these devices despite the fact it was already controlling several exactly the same devices. I finally downloaded and used the alternative Tuya app instead which immediately added these devices without issue (well ok I had to use pairing ‘AP Mode’ as you almost always need to but at least it worked. Reading another review somewhere I suspect a recent update has stopped this Smartlife app from adding new devices, or at least these Wifi ones. By the time you read this the problem may be sorted but if not try Tuya instead..Version: 3.21.5

Not too goodI installed fan/light wall switches and used this app as said to. Took ages for it to connect and when it did the ceiling fan will only work on high. I now have a ceiling fan that blows at high speed no matter what setting you put it on. Support couldn’t help and hard to make understand. App shouldn’t be released it not up to doing what it should. Support totally hopeless with help. Blaming everything but them. By the reviews I’m not the only one unhappy with apps ability to do what it should..Version: 3.35.3

Used to good, now junkI started using Smart Life about 4 years ago to control a few smart plugs and switches around the house. At that time it was a great app. But it has now deteriorated to steaming pile of junk. Last year it became really wonky when trying turn on a devise from the first screen. I would press the tile for say a lamp, but the app turns the plug for a fan who's tile was at the other end of the screen from the one I pressed. No rhyme or reason for this and it does it about 50% of the time. Infuriating. Next, I had an automation setup to turn off a fan 1 ½ hours after it was turned on. This worked fine for almost 4 years but now it has stopped working and the fan runs until I manually turn it off. And the last few weeks the app has been excitingly slow to open and change between pages. It can take several seconds to open while I stare the spinning circle. This is on an iPhone 13 Pro so it's not an old, slow phone problem. Avoid if possible..Version: 3.35.6

Appears to have limited functionalityI don’t understand why this app has such a high rating. My experience is that its bery limited in what it can do. While it’s perfectly possible to add devices, and relatively seamless to do so, that’s about it. Set up beyond this basic functionality is confusing, and not remotely intuitive. The instructions that come with the smart sockets clearly indicate that it should be possible to rename each device individually, but no such option presents itself. Instead I’m only presented with options to create a “home”, or a “scene” but what you then do with these is unclear. I thought that by creating a “home” I would be able to populate each room with the sockets contained within them, but no such option seems to be available. If it is, I don’t know where to find it. It seems as though there is a lot missing from the app. It occurred to me that maybe I have a basic free version and that there is a premium paid version but, if there is, I can’t find it. It seems to me that the developers need to put some more work into this, particularly into creating some kind of useful user guide..Version: 4.0.0

Used to love it before updateGutted, loved this app before the update. Had two extension leads connected and each one had a different item plugged into each socket, they were all named especially on the one as the items have to be turned on and off in a certain order. Since the update the socket names have disappeared and you’re no longer able to assign names to a plug. Disappointing. Also just discovered while going to schedule my electric blanket it will only allow me to schedule the item in “switch 1” electric blanket is switch 3. Don’t really want to swap them around as item in switch 1 also requires scheduling occasionally. Used to love this app - even convinced my parents and boyfriend to purchase items too because of how great it was. Massive potential security risksI see massive potential security risks for this app. Say someone at the company or someone they sell your data to finds out you use the app to open your house. Sharing of location would allow them to know where your house is and there could be a trigger designed in so the company can tell your app to open your home. How does the company assure your safety? Also I learned you don’t need to be on wifi to use the app. I can use it on cellular data only. That means someone who cracks phone could open your home from anywhere. It would be good to be able to make the app work on wifi only and not cellular. That way, the user could choose to be exclusively at home for the app to work. These are just a couple of the security risks I can think of. It would be way too much to write it all out..Version: 3.38.2

Started great now it's irritatingThis app started out rather awesome no unscheduled use of energy happening. Totally great until I decided like an idiot to allow the beta testing and I regret it completely. Now my light turns on and off whenever it feels like it. It was set to turn on at sunset it waits until complete dark, it's supposed to turn on during overcast days, yeah right!, it's supposed to turn off at a specific time at night but I usually stay up later so turn it back on then it's a battle until I finally go to bed. Not only does it shut itself off over and over after bedtime it also begins turning itself on after I've gone to bed. I get up a couple times a night due to severe insomnia ad lucky me my light is on. It's extremely disturbing. I'm ready to remove the bulb add another one that won't give me so many issues. It may not change colors but I want have to deal with my baby sister thinking there's a ghost haunting me..Version: 3.38.3

Bulbs stopped working after six monthsI purchased these bulbs in January worked great connected easy hooked up to my Alexa with ease. After six months they stop working they go off-line and switch onAt all times of the day and night I had them set on a timer through Alexa that doesn’t work anymore. They lost connection with Alexa they are not responding in the app. When you contact customer service you get absolutely no help they blame your router or modem your iPhone or do you have power switch On to the devices “yes they asked me that” I disconnected the bulb 4 and tried to reconnect it to my network it will not connect. I reset my modem and reset my router nothing changed in the house I keep trying to explain this to customer support they don’t understand they just keep blaming everything in my house. I can’t get them to help and I can’t get any customer support. There is a 12 month warranty that is useless! Plus you have to contact them through the Smart Life app and using the Smart Life app only allows you 300 characters to respond to any of their questions! Just be aware that if you purchase these there is no customer support if they stop working, they blame everything but the bulbs or the software :(.Version: 3.17.8

Randomly went from smart to dumbI’ve been using this with 8 plugs and two light bulbs for a few years now, even when my internet went off in winter the schedule meant I was never in the darkness so couldn’t fault it however this evening I asked Alexa to turn on a lamp and she said she couldn’t so went to the app to do it manually (she has bad moments) and found I’ve got no devices? Checked my broadband app that says they are all online and half are on right now anyway so restarted my phone (the only solution offered) and nothing. Now I have to delve into tight spaces to find the plugs for my lights and turn them off by hand and since they have a schedule memory I will be woken at 5am on my day off unless I remove some plugs completely.
