✓ Honest review, cash grab, unfair algorithmsThe game is very good. Maybe too good. It can be addictively good. A fact that the company that owns it is well aware of, and you (if you have the ability) will end up parting with your hard earned cash, or you will progress at a 100th of the rate. Everything costs, and you will be sucked in for years, it really does take that long to build up to any decent level. I myself have played for about 15 months, spent quite a lot of money and only achieved a mediocre lvl 44. I do love the game tho and play every day, I get frustrated with algorithms, that purposely do not give tiles you need, purposely done I feel to cause frustration and therefore more spending. You can obtain new hero’s, but it will mostly be season 1 hero’s, which are woefully outclassed, unless again you start digging deep into your pockets. The artwork is very good . ✓ Good start but shine wears quicklyThe game starts as a reasonable match 3 hero collecting, alliance building game with a simple story and PvP elements. However it falls down quickly. While you progress quickly early on, you then become stuck in a grind for better heroes and ascension items, which are few and far between...unless you are willing to part with some serious money. The biggest issue is that once you get around to level 20-25, your progress slows down so much that it's a very long grind to get anywhere, often waiting for months on end to get items to ascend your heroes...if you're lucky. ✓ Grind Or GreedBeen playing for 4 years. Probably dropped over au$500 on the game and feel mid-level. The grind becomes a habitual effort lacking enjoyment. The rewards are few and far between. I play this game out of habit not because I enjoy it anymore. Don’t expect much if you’re not going to pay, don’t expect much more if you do pay unless you plan on dropping hundreds of dollars into the game and even then you’ll still be disappointed. They bring out more OP heroes to entice you, and your old heroes that you spent so much time, and maybe money, on become redundant. It’s frustrating when the computer controlled characters that exactly the same as yours will do 30-50% more damage than your own. I was told it was to compensate for poor AI driving the opponents in battles. The developers don’t care. At the end of the day you’ve got a casual game to play and they just want you to spend money on it. The gameplay and outcomes are rigged to a subtle degree to make you spend more money on it. ✓ Greedy game with greedy developers.You progress fast at the beginning. Then, all of a sudden, progress slows to snail speed and the only way to get anywhere is to use your gems. These don’t last long, and there are very expensive options to buy more that won’t last long. Also, the enemies become very powerful at the same time, and the colour combos you need to defeat them become more rare. This doubles the lives you need to defeat the enemies. While this is happening, the heroes you can get from replaying earlier levels become more scarce. Meanwhile, all the upgrades cost a lot more food and iron (or gems), so upgrading buildings takes forever. Of course, as the building levels increase, the time they take to upgrade is far too long. Playing the game slows to a grinding halt and isn’t enjoyable anymore. I’m about to delete it. Shame, because it’s a well designed game ruined by greedy developers. ✓ Finally quit after years of playingI loved this game, loved my alliance and at one point was frequently a Top 100 player. But I couldn’t keep up, the game became a chore. Too many challenges, different types of coins, all latest development has been on new heroes rather than keeping things fresh or interesting, there are too many to keep track of. I was happy to spend a little money once in a while to ensure the developers kept improving the game but they just ruined it. I’m not a gambler and that’s essentially what you are doing with your money and you’ll never come out on top. It’s not for the casual gamer anymore and the offers you can buy are shameful if they think the average person can afford to keep up. EDIT: thought I reinstall would have a look to see if anything interesting happened since my review. Some weird museum for Pokémon collectors but that’s it. There are NINE ‘offers’ for different coins, boosts etc that are very intrusive and if you were to sign up for all of them - over £300 of your money would be wasted. BUT...Question for the developers - Will you come out and admit here that in order to progress much beyond medium levels, you must spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to defeat the built in cheats? I mean there’s no shame in that, but I started playing this game because I thought it wouldn’t be that way. Once you reach a certain level (around 2500 team points) all of a sudden, raid matchups are never equal and you spend tens of thousands in food just to get a fair matchup. The gem colors in puzzles start tilting in favor of the opponent (ie you can’t build mana for your more powerful characters in matches) and finding the items you need to ascend your characters becomes nearly impossible - you can’t even buy them outright - you have to buy packs or “chances” at the option to win the items which, of course, never happens. Finally -and while this is fair it’s frustrating - the people who have spent thousands of dollars have all fully ascended, five star teams that are impossible to beat if you’re a lowly pauper like me. ✓ Terrible designAs others have pointed out, it’s gonna cost an INSANE amount of money to EVEN HAVE A CHANCE to climb the ranks. You can drop $100 on the largest gem bundle and you are not guaranteed to get even one top tier item/hero/etc. The alternative is to spend literally months grinding out the same boring levels to build up resources in the hopes that you can get what you need to progress and upgrade a single hero. No exaggeration, expect 3-5 pop ups every single time you open the app trying to get you to buy stuff. Porn sites have fewer pop ups. I’ve played other games with in app purchases, but this is a whole new level of money sink. To give an example, clash of clans also offers gems for purchase. However, you can get exactly what you want upgraded if you choose to spend money. Here, not only do you get fewer gems per dollar, but this is basically buying pulls on the lever of a slot machine. I don’t even know how that’s legal while I cannot play online poker because that’s “gambling.” Absolutely everything in the game is luck based, skill is not even a factor. You’ll get a lot more for your time and (if you choose) money elsewhere. I think each time a new batch of heroes pops up everyone should get a token in their inbox that when used gives them a hero of that batch. ✓ Excellent at start, terrible later onWhen you start playing this, it's great. Progression occurs quickly and you can move through the main quest map at reasonable speed. Later on, enemies get far too hard, so you need to upgrade buildings and craft items to progress. This is of course, natural. However, it takes FOREVER to upgrade and craft stuff. I'm probably midway? through the game and I have to wait THREE DAYS for some process to finish (upgrading or crafting or training) During this time, you can't do 2 of the same process, so, you're locked out from making any further progression. Unless you've bought a second builder or use gems. My main gripe with this game is the cost of everything. For me, the cheapest option for gems is 7 or 8 bucks for 400 gems. Put this into perspective: some of the LONG upgrades cost OVER 1000 gems. And this is just for ONE upgrade. How much does the developer(s) expect their players to pay? Ridiculous! For me, personally, I just play this VERY casually. So, I can wait for things. But for many others, I think the cost of things with real money and the HUGE wait times will turn people away. ✓ Developers Cash CowI’m writing this review based on the game now - I am one of the higher ranked players in the game, and have been playing several months. Initially the game was fun and enjoyable until you progress past level 15 or so. You get no achievements or rewards for finishing the main storyline, and “heroes of the month” have now been brought in encouraging people to spend money to buy gems to get these heroes - there is no rhyme or reason to how they appear, and you can summon 30 heroes and not get any, or one and be successful. Due to the strength of some of these it makes for a massively uneven playing board. The latest addition is “Challenges” which again are done with the intent of spending money but without the guarantee of any success or reward, and to actually win the final level needed to acquire loot is exceptionally difficult if not impossible for many. Ascension items for heroes are hard to come by, and multiple numbers are needed for higher level heroes, making progression very difficult and completely down to chance. I can’t believe the company cares so little about its customers that they won’t fix long-standing common complaints. If you think you can relax with this game, think again. Also, once you manage to get one of the awesome top tier heroes, it can take a year to collect the excessively rare items you need to level them fully. And the chances are (not surprisingly) near zero. Exact chances? Guess. And you won’t have to guess who figured out that in their boardroom? You will be laughed at in that boardroom. Key items are kept from you from fully ascending you heroes though which can’t be bought. Ascending them *if* you get lucky and pay money is amazingly difficult at higher levels with months of grinding (during which time you will be spending more money). ✓ Good game but…I’ve played for several years and it’s okay, the numbers creep is rough, the difference between a season one and a season five hero fully leveled is vast. So expect that even if you a full team of season one legendary heroes you will lose to a team of newer heroes. It’s a business, they’re trying to make money, I get that. If you can get everything to be a top player without spending money there’d be no incentive to. That being said, you can spend hundreds and never pull a legendary and I don’t like that you can go through and get coins from an event where the only way to get them is to purchase it and you’ll still only pull season one rares, that’s bad business. For example if you get enough of the three kingdoms coins to do a ten summon then you pull four of the same season one rares(I’m looking at you Dawa) and you’ve spent thirty dollars for trash you’re going to feed to a character you already have. This wouldn’t be so bad if you were dealing with NFT but the characters aren’t tradeable. Their answer to this was the soul exchange where the “best” hero costs twenty legendary heroes for you all of the legendary heroes are the same value but theirs have levels, ten, fifteen and twenty. It’s a bit unreasonable and though I hesitate to say it because I hate the term, unfair. It doesn’t have to be fair though, we choose to play. ✓ Completely and utterly riggedI will admit that this is a beautiful game but it is ruined by being rigged against you once you have gotten past the first 2-3 stages in the campaign. The tiles that you need to win the level are rarely there whereas the ones that you don’t want to use are always in large quantities. Also the game does not really let you win a fight based on how levelled up a hero is but more on how many stars they have and they’re special abilities, you know the parts of the hero that you can’t control. The system for summoning the heroes is terrible because the normal daily summon always gives you the same crappy one star heroes. It’s very frustrating. ✓ The Party’s Almost OverI’ve played this since the beginning. It had a great run, but they may have finally broken the game. The super limit breaks and rapid release of overpowered heroes (who may be nerfed or rendered obsolete 6 months later) are part of it. There have been several mass exoduses over the years, and another is happening now (spring 2023). I’m not bitter, it’s just how it is. It’s always been the kind of game where you have to put money into the machine to really have fun, but now it’s outrageous. You get spammed with the sales stuff. When you get something really good it has a short shelf life. There are teams that are impossible to beat without getting a perfect set of tiles at the beginning of the fight and that is not left up to pure chance. The algorithm won’t let you win for long. For better or worse, it seems possible to buy your way in and attempt to compete at a high level. It’s a beautiful game. The artwork is cool. They’ve added new challenges like Monster island to keep the gameplay fresh. What’s left of the community is very helpful to inexperienced players. ✓ Some annoyancesThe game is far too hand-holdy with its initial tutorial, forcing you to complete it, and it drags on for too long. Using the characters feels very underwhelming. When you get a character, all you really have is a little portrait in the battles and that’s really it. ✓ Very Expensive for very bad rewardsI’ve been playing for a few years now, and I’m ok to spend my hard earned cash on good deals every now and then, but it’s got so bad! I did a 10 pull and got 5 of the same 3* another 2 of the same 3* and 3 other insignificant pulls, which I could pull from the usual silver token pulls. I don’t think you should be able to get these people from legends pulls. After a year, I finally got a 5*, but her development stalled out at “level 70” for lack of the proper ascension material. Staff have made a good attempt to let you dim colours but all the flashing/animation esp of special moves is extremely difficult for someone with sensory overload/autism/visual issues. The developer added some time frame feature and in the event of a lengthy game this kicks in and unless you kill all enemies you are classed as defeated. In the case of my duel I had all 5 of my characters with over 80% of health remaining with a healer in my squad while the enemy had 2 heroes both healers so it was taking me some time to use enough shields to charge up my heroes manna in order to use the special powers. The time kicked in and I lost. Before this update the previous system would have just changed the walrus to max damage. No it’s a terrible new idea that is favouring the attacked team and it spoils the raids experience. In this situation the victory should be judged by the number of heroes remaining and maybe the total of their life points which would be more accurate and fair. Game had its hiccups at first but the devs were good at updating and fixing them. It has a good social aspect as far as team play, given you find a good and active clan. The loot system has been updated and now more difficult to win higher tier loot, so sad, and gaining 5* heroes. It’s a color matching puzzle game which you use to attack titans, monsters, as well as other players. On of the strategies in this game is using the color wheel in your favor, called stacking. Before the game felt a little more balanced giving you the colors you need, now it’s quite the opposite. The colors you need are ALWAYS far and few. The devs have indicated that Is not the case, but playing it will prove otherwise. So many people of posted this on the forums, however the devs (lying to their consumers) keep saying it’s not true. Posts have been locked and deleted. Although the game is free you can pay to hasten building, expanding, and pull heroes (random). Earning gems w/o buying packs are too slow; you will legitimately spend a month to earn enough gem to summon 1 hero, & get a 3-star. You have save & grind for several months to earn enough gems to draw 10 at a time, & you will only gets 3 or 4 star heroes. Realistically, the only way to get a 5-star is to do a 3 or 4 10-draws in a row, & earning enough gems to do that many 10-draws will take months, if not a year of grinding. The other way to get a 5-star hero thru a level 20 Training Center. Well, it takes months to build a level 20 TC, & once you have it, it takes a lot of resources & 2 full days to try to train a 5-star, but even then the drop rates for 5-stars from a TC is basically non-existent. A guy on my team in this game was keeping a tally of how many heroes he was getting from his TCs, & he had done over 70 by last count & gotten only 3 & 4-stars.
