AR Art Projector: Da Vinci Eye for Negative User Reviews

Not useful in practiceI had great hopes for this app as a way of quickly marking out compositions as part of my drawing workflow. However, in practice it is functionally unusable. The AR maps to surface OK, but to make use of it you need to observe your mark making through the screen of your smart device while you’re drawing. Even with the opacity down it is almost impossible to correlate your line with the screen overlay, when viewing your pencil through the screen. That’s ok, I understand the complexities of trying to develop this. The thing I’m concerned about is the fact that most of the reviews seem to be fake. There’s absolutely no way that, for example in one recent review, a user supposedly recovering from serious physical injury in their hand could successfully use this app - it’s incredibly difficult to correlate your pencil through the screen for no other reason than the focus shift of the camera and natural unsteadiness due to the frame rate sync of the screen. Really disappointing and surprisingly expensive for what feels like a lie..Version: 4.4.2

Either you pay or you don’t use itYep. Basically hit with a subscription instantly, it forces you to use “free” images which I didn’t bother looking at because I know they will be garbage because they want you to pay instead. The app is basically useless unless you pay so I deleted it. What a shame, I thought it would be a useful way to draw but instead just another money hungry app..Version: 4.3.9

🧊🧊🧊I personally don’t recommend this app for what I was attempting to achieve but if you are looking for this type of style than it provides everything that it said it was going to. Overall great app just not what I was looking for..Version: 4.2.3

It’s aight. The app is over all okay, and there aren’t too many ads. The problem is that the lessons are only pictures within the app and that during the step by step, the drawing is basically shaded. The only mode I actually like is classic..Version: 2.0.9

Good but....The camera is very shaky when I am drawing and the lessons in it are very limited. If I knew, I would have not payed $7 dollars for the app..Version: 3.2.2

Does it come with a chiropractor?I really wanted to like this but find I have to contort myself in the strangest static position that after only a few minutes my neck starts to hurt. I have several stands for other uses, none of them seem to be right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I certainly wouldn’t buy the paid version with this much discomfort. And the images in the “free” section are not to my taste at all..Version: 4.3.9

AwfulThis is a scam! When you go into the app you have to pay to trelace an image ang then it doesn't work.Version: 4.3.9

When it said “projector”, I assumed it would “project”. Silly me.I think, perhaps, with time and a ton of patience, I’ll get used to the “non-projector” method of super imposing a camera pic onto paper. I was looking for a light box and remembered this app. Sadly, I should have saved the $10 I used for this app and applied it to the light box. For me, drawing and my artwork, is a peaceful time. With this app, I spent most of my time wrestling with my phone, the app and the paper to make it fit correctly. It wasn’t at all what I had hoped for and I’m out 10 bucks. There really should be a trial period on this app. Live and learn, I guess..Version: 4.0.9

It’s ok but.......Not good if you have coordination and/or distance issues.Version: 3.2.1

I CANT EVEN CREATE MY OWN ARTWORK?Like let people get creative and don’t make them pay to do that. And I tried drawing one of the free things and it came out HORRIBLE I can’t even see my pen properly. I do not recommend..Version: 4.4.0

SubscriptionsGot this app when it first came out. Easy 1 star now.Version: 4.3.9

PayLike most things now a days it’s a subscription price is not too bad compared to others i’ve seen but still . the developers response to most complaints about this is that you can use “ most “ of the app . while that may be true you can NOT use the one feature they are advertising. which is the reason i deleted the app and gave it one star ..Version: 4.3.1

😑I dont like it.Version: 1.3.4

Lower expectationNot cool you make us pay 20$ for this Why no two very disapointing 😡.Version: 4.3.2

Why do you need an account? There’s no reason that this app would require an account. If you simply need to use it for the drawing function - the actual purpose of the app - then there’s no need to sign up for anything. Forced account creation in order to use something that basic is simply data harvesting and is totally inappropriate. Social options for people interested in that should be entirely optional. It’s not possible to test an app to see if it meets your needs, if you have to sign up to something in order to use it. If it’s unsuitable, then the data is already out there, and cannot be recalled or deleted. Forced signup gets an automatic one star because it’s a terrible practice..Version: 3.2.2

Does what it’s supposed to do but..Why is it subscription based payments?.Version: 4.3.4

Good but I had an issue with the anchorIts good and the idea is there, but what i found was if i put my hand under the camera to draw or trace, the image would lose its anchor. Ive tried everything but the image projected over my anchor, so when i moved it the image would disappear because the anchor was moved. Is there not a way of the anchor staying on the screen rather than on the drawing paper? Maybe there is, but I couldn’t work it out. Im willing to research deeper into my query though before I give up..Version: 3.2.8

NOT FREE - BAITEDEvery time greedy app developers make an app free, but only free to use it how THEY want, I’m writing one star on all three Apple accounts after downloading the app, and then deleting it. I could understand having a daily limit of 1 to 3 of your own photos, or possibly a limit of five in total. But only using random lame pictures that have nothing to do with what I need the app for? I’m going to literally ignore any app that the entirety of the developer team releases, regardless of how badly I think I might be interested in it. Because this was the most annoying download ever..Version: 4.4.0

DisappointedAfter spending the fee for the App I was able to see that this was just a good marketing campaign and not a reasonable tool for art. Difficult to use and even more difficult to draw detail. Save your money!.Version: 3.2.9

SubscriptionI didn’t really like it because I don’t really want to pay for the subscription and I just want to draw for fun but I can’t draw the things I want without the subscription..Version: 4.3.2

Mandatory registration enforcedYou need to know this before buying the app: you are forced to register in order to use it. It’s not optional to unlock extra features or get support, it’s mandatory and enforced. I would not have bought the app if I had known and I’ve not registered it used it because if this. The app developers list reasons for doing this, and while there may be some merit for additional feature down the line, they just don’t hold up for simply using the app. There is no need for thus. Read the room and understand how people feel about privacy..Version: 3.1.2

Yeah don’t buy this if you have a clear and general understanding of artYeah what a waste of 5£. If you know how to draw then this app is completely useless to you because you have a general understanding of line and know the General bases of tone. DONT BUY THIS IF YOUR TRYING TO TRACE IT DOES NOT WORK . I can see why people would like to use this ( like me) however, the uses for this app are not for tracing but for learning to draw soooooo I would not recommend.Version: 3.0.9

It's horribleI tried using it for 1 hour but didn't work so.Version: 4.2.8

Pay, draw, it’s okay…?Okay so, I saw a lot of reviews saying you have to pay which isn’t fully true, when I downloaded the app it said I needed to pay for pro meaning I have to pay to draw my own photos the inspirational photos were okay at best, but it didn’t let me draw them saying I had to pay for the free trial. Maybe I clicked on the wrong thing, not sure. But I felt bad giving a 1 star so I put 3 because it could be something on my end. Also I think the app in general was a smart idea..Version: 4.3.3

Have to look at phone to draw!I’ve been drawing almost my entire life, but having to look at the phone but draw on the paper is extremely difficult and my drawings are turning out TERRIBLE! This app does not project onto the paper, and the video makes it seem like that’s what it does, which is what I need. I need the image to project onto the paper, which this does not do. I’m sure if I spent a month trying to undo how to draw in my mind to do it this way, but the learning curve is not as easy as all these reviews. And I can actually draw! So confused why everyone else is rating this so high when you have to oook at the phone but draw on another surface..Version: 3.2.3

DisappointedBought this as an experienced artist, wanting to try it, really disappointed that there isn’t a trail version as apparently the AR isn’t compatible with my iPhone 7 wish I had known this before I bought it, can’t judge if it’s good or not, I still think that getting your self a light pad the old fashioned way would be easier which is what I always used 🤷‍♀️.Version: 3.1.2

Facing problemI bought subscription App for one year but after one week not working when trying to use it it tells buy it again please fix this problem or refund my money.Version: 4.4.2

Lame reason you need to give your personal detailsWhy 1 star? Had zero issues with paying for this app. In fact IF it does what it says it can do, it’s well worth the $4.99 fee. So why 1 star. After down loading the app and opening. The app wants you to give your personal details by filling out their form, email, etc.... So you go to FAQ and see why the want your email address and for you to set up a password. In the FAQ you need to scroll down to something like point 5&6 to find out why. Then when reading it, even says make up a fake email address if you want to. When Apple sends my receipt, I will be asking for a full refund. This is a LAME app based on requiring the user to create an account with them AFTER you paid the $4.99 fee. I do not need to share my art work with others and do not care to see their work. If the app developer wanted to create an opt-in type “group” that would be acceptable. However, to open the app and needing to automatically join? NO. There is ZERO need for this developer to have my email address. Their lame excuse of saying its for advising the user of app updates, is just that LAME- Apple already does that. Don’t waste your time nor your money buying this app. Unless of course you don’t mind freely giving up your personal details..Version: 3.0.9

Not usefulThis app is of no use to me as I thought I would be able to bring in my own photos. I would like a refund..Version: 3.0.9

ANNOYING CAMERATHIS CAMERA IS SO ANNOYING IT WONT GO WHERE I WANT IT TO GO.Version: 2.0.5

Charges money but say its free in adsIf you are downloading this then don’t Should download “Projector” app instead.Version: 4.3.9

It’s good BUTIt’s a great app, the tools it has are phenomenal- my problem with it though is the AR drawing. It takes FOREVER for the anchor to actually be set and not disappear as soon as you set it down. Very, very, very frustrating. Not to mention that it’s hard to draw as well if you have a normal tripod because the phone has to go up quite high to fit the paper and then at that point you could be standing while drawing, praying you don’t accidentally bump something and have to start over with realigning it. It’s a good app, don’t get me wrong, but it is very tedious getting it set up and to stay..Version: 4.2.5

Extreme difficult to set upIt is so cumbersome and difficult to set up that any time gained from drawing it from your own eye is lost. Just when you think it might work it will suddenly switch to portrait from landscape and vice Versa. It takes a long time to move the camera and picture into the correct position which is a frustrating and difficult procedure..Version: 4.0.9

Fee doesn’t make senseI downloaded this app a few years ago and it was just one down payment of $7. I was able to access all my own photos and work on my own projects. I took a break from art for a year or so and got a new phone since then. Downloaded the app on my new device and now I can’t access my own photos without paying a monthly fee? Wasn’t like that before. Why should I have to pay to access my own photos for my own projects? I can understand paying a fee for their images and their art lessons but to access my own photos?? Just seems backwards to me. Also super frustrating. I was really excited to get back into art but as someone who is already struggling financially, I really don’t think I can afford another monthly/yearly fee. Sad that all these projects I was in the middle of are going to have to remain on hold. You should have to pay for their art and their lessons. Not to access your own phone and your own work. Doesn’t make any sense..Version: 4.2.4

Advertising ProblemsThe purpose of developing this application was to enable users to “project” photos onto a drawing surface and trace them (that was the advertisements showed). The promotional material solely highlighted the feature of tracing one’s own image, which was exactly what I was seeking. However, my disappointment was immense when I discovered that a payment of $30 was required to access this function. I find this to be unacceptable, and I believe the advertisements should showcase the free features while clearly mentioning the need for a premium payment to utilise the tracing own image’s function..Version: 4.3.6

Can’t use without payingThis is a good marketing campaign. It appears you can’t use it without paying $27.99. Umm I’ll pass thanks no app is worth that much..Version: 4.2.1

Way to clunkyDownloaded thinking this was going to be a straight forward tracing app, boy was I wrong… first you need a cup to place your phone on um ok?. and then you need an iPad because it requires two devices to actually function, lucky for me I have both, oh and can’t forget you need absolutely nothing to move otherwise your sketch will be out of whack, so don’t forget to buy a stand that is bolted to the floor, waste of money..Version: 4.0.7

It will simply not work !!!I’ve tried everything to get the anchor point done .. no matter what it won’t recognise it .. so disappointed will be cancelling.Version: 4.3.2

Very disappointingYou have to pay for basically everything it’s so stupid.Version: 4.3.4

Waste of moneyIs such a simple concept and I would of thought it would be simple but it’s actually pretty hard to use, I don’t have a problem drawing and I’m actually pretty good of it I got this app to speed up the transfer ready to paint but been messing about with this and the angle never sits right or you end up with a glass in the middle of your picture impossible to navigate around 🤣 it may help if it made a use of iPhones wide angle Lens so you didn’t have to try holding the camera so high- also stroke marks on the screen would really help as the opacity setting ain’t great because if your rolling with a hardcore set of HB’s you have to constantly check and reposition ya phone which again is hard because pencil marks are faint af.Version: 3.1.2

Main feature behind paywallI understand having a premium version, but needing to pay a monthly fee to use your own pictures is bogus. The tutorials, the augmented reality mode, or some other more advanced features would be reasonable to have behind a paywall. But obviously, most people are downloading this app so they can draw a specific picture, not whatever random pictures are uploaded to the app already. With this mean feature behind a paywall, I immediately deleted this app and got a version that allows me to use my own pictures..Version: 4.2.8

Need Pro version to useI guess I thought there was a “free” version supported by in app purchases and advertising. But as far as I can tell you have to upgrade to the paid “Pro” version to use the app. Totally understand but would be better to say that up front..Version: 4.2.1

Not what was advertised and unhelpful for what I wantedGot it because I need help with scaling and being able to just get the shapes I want before sketching would be super helpful, but you’d think that with the app advertising something like that, you’d be able to right? Nope! There are some pictures they allow you to choose from their catalog but they’re limited and they wouldn’t let me use my own photo’s without paying a pretty pricey subscription for a simple, small feature I wanted that I originally thought would be free. This app tries WAY too hard to be more than it should be. Throwing extra, useless “features” in your face and basically not allowing you to do anything without paying - which is fine at the end of the day but I don’t appreciate my time being wasted because I’ve been lied to. Save yourself some time and try something else..Version: 4.3.9

DisappointingI can’t believe you have to pay to use your own photos. I get that there are photos already on the app but cmon, we’re all here to draw our own stuff. Fair to say after seeing that you had to subscribe I deleted the app..Version: 4.2.8

Good start but buggyOk so fairs fair it’s a good app. As soon as I saw it I bought it. However I soon started too notice problems. The controls are there but not great. Ergonomic. However the biggest problem I have is, if I want to go landscape not an option. So you can turn the image to be landscape BUT adjusting up pulls it down, left goes right etc. Now the last bit, if you zoom in or out or move the image even in portrait and loose where the image or camera is, forget it. It’s gone. No reset no centre no start again. Meaning the best and usually ONLY way get it back is delete the project and start again. Also last bit there is a companion app you can use too make massive drawings. Now this app de Vinci eye is £5.99 but you have to pay once every year or per month or whatever for the other which I HATE and will NEVER SIGN UP TO ANYTHING LIKE THAT. If I did I’d be paying out like £600 a month and not use have of that stuff. So NO SALE. GET IT?.Version: 4.0.8

Curiosity killed the cat...This app struck me as helpful for really intricate details for my artwork (like in water), so I decided to pay the 5 bucks. What I discovered is that your depth perception is challenged with this app. You’re looking at a phone to see what you’re drawing, not at the paper. Because of this you have to work so slowly, when initial sketches should be loose and relatively quick. If you want to genuinely improve your drawing skills, draw from life/videos. You’re not going to get better by tracing with an app. I’d consider this a fun time killer for people who are not serious about becoming better artists. In an ideal world, the app owners would give people a trial period before purchasing. Deleting it..Version: 3.1.2

Fiddly, very hard to use in practice.I thought this might make sketching simple drawings easier, but it’s a real faff to use and drawing on the paper whilst looking at the phone is much much harder than it sounds. The AR mode needs the phone to be quite far away from the paper, so it probably needs a dedicated stand, which I’m not willing to buy, based on my current lack of success. :(.Version: 3.2.9

Yes.Yes..Version: 4.4.1

Just get better at drawingThis tool ain’t worth it and is too cumbersome to use. Do yourself the favour of just practising instead.Version: 4.3.1

Not goodThis app didn't help me draw at all..Version: 1.3.4

Requires a Steady HandLike many advertisements, the artists that demonstrate this App are far more skilled at drawing than the newbie who is looking to learn how to draw or improve in drawing. I am sure that with many hours of practice this App will help develop hand eye coordination and drawing ability but do not expect to skip the practice that traditional pencil and paper requires..Version: 2.3

You cannot use the projector function without upgrading!!App looked great until I realised I have to upgrade to pro to use the projector function… you know the part of g the app that you actually downloaded it for! Disappointing and it should be more upfront for people ready to pay with their money!.Version: 4.2.1

OkIt’s ok I bought the stand as well and if I fix it at the top of my phone it turns it off and at the bottom you can’t see the controls in the middle no good either I have managed to do a couple of drawings with it took a long time for okish results.Version: 4.0.8
