Speech Assistant AAC for Positive User Reviews

Life SaverI have tried so many apps since losing my voice, but this app has allowed me to have my words heard over the phone, in meetings, and even in zoom calls. I love it💗.Version: 4.6.5

Fantastic App!Speech Assistant is so easy to use and customize. Love that there are diff voices and with the ability to change voice pitch and speech rate. It’s very intuitive and my 85-year old patient, who hates “technology,” was able to use it easily after a 5-min demo! Thank you to the developer for this clean, functional, flexible, and intuitive program...and it is extremely affordable. I’m so grateful to be able to recommend such a fine App to my patients!.Version: 3.4.1

Great AppThis is a great app and really easy to use! The only thing that would make it better is if the user could also hear the audio output during phone calls. It’s strange to not be able to hear your own side of the conversation during a phone call..Version: 5.4.5

The app works well for iOS’ switch control!I have tried other AAC apps, but none of them works well with switch control. I am glad that I found Speech Assistant! And the other app, Speech Assistant Switch makes the scanning more easier too!.Version: 3.1

Speech appGreat! MND, ALS, PLS and all others. My old app did not work with the new operating system on my iPad. Sure glad I found this. Highly recommended. Thank you Ton..Version: 2.4.2

Almost PerfectAlmost perfect I've been using this app for about 3 years. It was recommended by a speech therapist when I was still able to speak. I have MSA--a rare and progressive neuro-muscular disease that has taken away my ability to do many things that were important to me, including my ability to speak. Speech assistawnt has been a life-saver, allowing me to communicate. I've created my own categories and phrases, some of which are quite long--such as this email. I'm also leagally blind from birth, which makes it impossible to use the "Write a Review" option directly. However, to evaluate this software, I've researched several others, both free and not free, and Speech assistawnt still comes out on top. But I did find some useful features in the free apps that would make Speech Assistant much easier for me to use. In order of importance to me, these are: Ability to create sub-categories Ability to print phrases directly from the app. I create a lot of lists for my husband and doctors. Ability to change font size of the Settings and documentation. They are much too small to be useful for me. Ability to create a lot more categories (not necessary IF I can create sub-categories). Ability to have more than 5 choices in the "Clear/Restore" action. Nearly all UNDO actions allow at least 10 levels of going back. There are many levels of perfection and if you make the first 3 enhancements above, that would be awsome and the app would be PERFECT PERFECT! Anything you can do would be very much appreciated, and make Speech Assistant even better than it already is. Thank you for listening and thank you for Speech Assistant AAC. 100% FabulousI’ve been mute for 9 out of the last 12 months. Tried all sorts of apps. Most for less than 5 minutes. It is so hard to find an app for people who are still full able and want to communicate articulate conversation. I had become recluse and had to run two apps on a split screen. This is simply the best app ever at a great price. Very feature rich and designed by a team who understand the practical difficulties. There is no app which will work 100% out of the box for anyone, as individual needs differ too greatly. But this app has it structure to adapt to whatever you want. In less that 30 minutes I was able to call my Son and type my conversation to him. It was so liberating it brought me to tears. I HIGHLY recommend this app to anyone described above. I shall be contacting Ton and his team with some suggestions for minor tweaks, but I can only conclude by saying “Ton & your team, you are angels. Thank you so much”. Hope this helps others..Version: 4.6.5

Been using this app for over a year. I love it, but there is one more thing I wish it could do.I am autistic, and have been using Speech Assistant on various devices for over a year now. I don’t know how my life would be without it. So customizable and efficient to use. So many wonderful features. Thank you. I do have one request: I don’t know if this is even possible, but it would be amazing if I could listen to music and use the app on the same device at the same time. For example, if I only had my phone with me, and I wanted to listen to Spotify, but I also had to communicate, instead of just stopping, the music would just be quieter when I was using the AAC. I don’t know if that even made sense, but I thought it was worth asking about..Version: 5.4.1

FantasticThis app has been a huge help to me after I permanently lost my ability to speak in January. It is very user friendly and easy to personalize. I really like the feature where the text can be shown in large print. I had used a similar app that allowed me to use my own pre-recorded voice, but I ended up coming back to Speech Assistant AAC due to its ease of use. This is the best app I have ever used! It has truly been a blessing..Version: 4.7.3

Real game changerI praise this app and the developer who made this I’ve used some Acc apps but this one surpasses them. I have a rare disease Called Kearn Sayre Syndrome and it’s progressive and effecting my speech merry and more now at work and everyday life. This app is a great back up to use when it’s hard to communicate, and so easy to use and set up to your liking. Many thanks 🙏.Version: 4.5.5

ALS speech disabledLove the app. I am non verbal so this app has become my voice. Love that I can save so many phrases and it is easy to learn. Do wish the setting to use only the iPhone/iPad speaker was easier to turn on. I need to go into settings, “speech, recordings and sounds” and scroll down to “always use built in speakers” to change every time I want to use to answer the phone and then back thru settings to set back to hear thru a speaker. Takes too long to keep changing. Should be one button on the main screen to do this. I also wish the auto correct was better. I seem to make many more errors on this app than I do on text, email or word documents. The app “guesses” are wildly wrong and often times non sensical. Like if I use the app at the drug store to get Percocet, the app corrects to “petticoat.” Also, it mispronounces certain words like invalid - meaning disabled - not in val id - meaning not valid. (Which ironically is how I often feel as a disabled person!).Version: 5.4.1

Great!! A Must HaveWhat a wonderful surprise. I have used five or six different apps on my iPhone and iPad to help with speech (I have ALS and use a ventilator mask more than 23 hours a day) and this is the best one. Speech Assistant comes with dozens of phrases built in, also in various categories, so it is easy to use immediately. But it can be customized, too. And, get this-- you can add your own voice to phrases, words, sentences. Now it works on M1 Macs, too. Wonderful..Version: 4.4

Speech AssistantThis application is wonderful. The design of the screens, the effort put the development of the program are first class. I have lost my speech. I could not talk to people. I was at a loss. That has changed. I can communicate. I have a first screen in which tells the person my predicament. From then on I can speak to them. My thanks for putting in so much effort and time. First class. It gets full marks for me..Version: 4.3.3

SpeechAssistant AACI really like SpeechAssistant, as a part time AAC user! I’m also visually impaired so the customization of this app is extremely helpful. One thing is that I wish is that this app could control an AI device (eg. Echo, Echo Dot, or Google products). I’ve tried and the speech has to be slowed down a little bit for my Echo Dot to pick it up. I also wish this app had more symbols to it, for example, things like “stop”, “no”, “yes”, “I like/I don’t like” and so on. I just wish this had more symbols for basic words like described above..Version: 4.6.3

Wonderful AppI use this for an aphasic client. Extremely easy to program with novel “carrier” phrase/question-forms for repetitive practice. I wonder if there is a way (I may have missed) to make the pictures I’ve programmed onto the text buttons appear in the larger read-out text windows. That would make the stimulus selections more salient and appealing. Otherwise, the application is terrific, very reasonably priced, and always useful..Version: 3.7.5

I love this app!I have ALS, and have lost my ability to speak. This app offers so many options that have made my life much easier. I can now talk on my phone using the app and it works great! I love how I can save my thoughts and share them with others later. I definitely recommend it..Version: 5.3.3

Best over all IOS text to speech app!I have Parkinson”s and my speech is becoming more and more negatively affected as it progresses. I have been trying out many AAC apps over the last few months to help me “speak”, and so far SA is more versatile and has by far the most customizable settings of any other IOS apps I’ve tested. The only thing that would make it even better is having the additional feature that is included on a PC app I also use that gives the user the ability to draw within the app and have the written words optionally converted to text..Version: 4.2

Great app for speechI love this app. It has really helped me communicate with everyone. I am very happy that it has a way to make the text larger as I am visually impaired. The one thing I would really like if it was added was if each of the buttons could be customized with a color so I could find the button I want faster. Overall Great app!.Version: 2.7.1

Wonderful! This app is great for my needs without breaking the bank. It has a bunch of great features that increase readability and function. It wasn't even hard to learn! I love this app..Version: 3.0

Great app to help those ALSThis app is fabulous for those with ALS. It’s tremendously simple to learn how to use, create new phrases, location of functionality. The ONLY thing that is missing a iPhone version..Version: 2.9.5

The BestHaving Bulbar ALS. This is extremely helpful. When using over the phone, the other party should be apprised that you are using this aid I’ve been very satisfied Why doesn’t it display as a purchased app in App Store?.Version: 4.7.6

Looks goodWe were looking for simple app for use by our 12 year old autistic son. He is verbal, but does not speak loud. The app is highly customizable. Will provide additional feedback after 6-months of use..Version: 1.2.5

Best speech app aroundWorth every penny! I lost my speech due to ALS, and this is by far my favorite app for speech. It’s great for saving custom phrases , works like a dream on iPhone and iPad, and is fabulous for phone calls! I use it for all my work meetings by dialing in with my cell phone and it seamlessly speaks for me. Everyone I’ve used it with so far absolutely loves it as much as I do. Its been a lifesaver for my career!.Version: 4.5.7

Think this will be a godsendIve only just started to test this, prior to letting it lose on my mother in law. My intention is to use it with a real usb keyboard as she can manage typing on one far easier then she can the screen keyboard and it’s an interface she understands. As such it would be really great if when typing begins it selected the text are ( rather than having to select that first, it will be really hard to teach her to tap it first ) and have return do a new line ( ideally speaking the line just finished ) rather than deselecting the box ( and her having to press the audio button ). If it were possible to type some of the key buttons ( speak/clear and maybe common/history etc ) to function ( or other unused keys ) then it would be much easier for her to use ( and I could build a custom keyboard ).Version: 2.7.1

Great app! This is great app! It can be customized to suit yourself and is very powerful..Version: 5.4.6

Speech AssistantI love this app! It is the best AAC I have used for those who can read and type. I especially like the rotate text for loud areas, crowds, or with those who are hearing impaired. Highly recommend!.Version: 1.2.4

OutstandingI'm a huge lover of all things . This program I would rate a 10 out of 5. The power it gives back to the user is simply amazing!! I’ve had the app installed on my iPhone for two weeks and now on my iPad..on the iPhone I was impressed but on the iPad I’m blown away by the concept and for twenty dollars... if you find yourself typing the same phrases you can create your own folders of different topics for different uses. IBut I found if I go into MacBook Pro and I open my keyboard setting than go to “ text” and create shortcuts there it seems to be even quicker.. thank you to the creator for giving me a voice.Version: 4.3.2

AAC for those with severe dysarthria and aphasiaI am a speech pathologist, and I want to thank the developer for creating this app. I recommend this app to all of my speech/language impaired patients who require AAC. It is simple and easy to use and the price doesn’t break the bank (many of my patients live on a fixed income). Thank you for restoring communication for many people with communication disorders..Version: 5.4.5

Love this appThis app is so helpful for me! I deal with chronic jaw and back pain and I use it when I am in too much pain to talk or type. The layout is very easy to understand and I like that responses can be pre-programmed or pre-recorded, which allows me to feel like I’m “talking” with my own voice..Version: 3.8

ExcellentThis app is perfect for my severely autistic teenage son. The flexibility is great. It never crashes. In my previous review I suggested a simple lock on the app configuration, so my son cannot change the settings. To my very pleasant surprise, the developer quickly added this feature. This is a very useful, flexible, and stable app. I just discovered the newly enhanced options for back up and synchronization of multiple devices. I love it..Version: 4.3.2

What a discoveryThis is an astonishing find: a powerful, practical and intuitive AAC program that works across every device I own (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook). I have recently started using AAC (one of the big, expensive programs) on my iPad, and was driven by frustration to look for an iPhone-based quick talker for producing a few vital phrases on the move (you try wielding a heavy iPad while in a wheelchair in a crowded Tube train). Instead I found this: a full-scale AAC program that is intelligently adapted for a variety of devices and which is awash with innovations of the “why did no one else think of that?” variety. I’ve only been using this for a day so far, but doubt I am exaggerating when I say this program promises to be life-changing..Version: 5.4.1

If you have difficulty talking, GET THIS APP!I get pretty verbose, so for the “too long, didn’t read” crowd: • Perfect for ANYONE who has a hard time talking. • Well designed • Easy to use • Highly configurable, with USEFUL options. • Best $10.00 that I’ve EVER SPENT. If the fact that this is a paid app is the only thing stopping you from buying it, don’t let it! Buy the app! FULL REVIEW As with most people, I rarely rate good apps unless it’s exceptional. This is one of those exceptional apps (at least from my perspective). Who could use this app? Virtually anyone who has difficulty speaking. In my situation, I have cancer in my lungs. Sometimes I can talk just fine. Other times My chest will start spasming and I am unable to talk without completely losing my breath. I use this to let people nearby what’s happening and how they can help. It’s amazing how well people respond and pay attention when I use it. I also use it for some basic communication when I need to conserve my breath. The app comes with a ton of pre-programmed phrases in multiple categories that activate with a single button touch. You can use these if they fit your needs or make your own specialized phrases to say anything you want. I don’t know the maximum phrase length but so far I haven’t hit the limit. Setting up a phrase is very simple and there are a couple of different ways to do it. If you need to change an existing message, long press a message button until the edit screen shows and change the message. You can also use the “spin wheel” here to change where the message button lives on the screen and to change the category. You can type a label for the button, or leave it blank and it will display as much of your message as possible for the label. If you need to set up a new phrase, simply type your new message in the freeform message box then scroll the action buttons near the top right of the screen and press the diskette button to save it. Again, you can use the “spin wheel” to set its screen position. You can also use the freeform message box at the top of the screen to type a single instant message that you want to play, but not necessary save. There are pages of USEFUL options. I haven’t investigated all of them and there are some I probably won’t use, but every option I’ve seen has a specific purpose and I can easily see that all of them will get used by someone. The layout was well thought out and is very easy to use. There are a few minor quirks... sometimes scrolling through the action menu will activate an option instead of letting you scroll, but it is a very minor thing and doesn’t cause any major issues. Just back out of the option and try again. I don’t really have a list of cons. If anything, some documentation or walkthrough on how to use the app, but it’s an extremely weak con, because it only takes about 5 minutes of exploration to figure out and be proficient with its features. What else can I say except that this was the best $10.00 I’ve ever spent! If this app looks like its perfect for your situation, don’t let the fact that it’s a paid app stop you from getting it. I’ve only had it for 3 days and have easily gotten far more than $10.00 worth of value from it..Version: 2.9.3

Speech Assistant AACI love this app and it works great on my new iPad 2017 The newest model.Version: 2.5.2

Love this App!I love this app! It works so well for me. I have Parkinson’s and it’s really messed with my speech. I also live with people who are hard of hearing. This app is easy to access and use. It helps me to get my message out..Version: 5.4.7
