Safeco Mobile for Negative User Reviews

When it works, it’s helpfulIt is not a bad app when I can get it to load. Often when I am on the opening page and click on “Make a Payment” it goes tot he loading screen and then back to the opening page. Same with the “Manage policies.” I remove the app and download it again, which sometimes that works and other times, right now, doesn’t. I have sent an email to their mobile support last week and have not received a reply..Version: 1.0.8

Absolutely useless!I can’t set up an account. I can login via their website with my email and password but the mobile app can’t be set up until they’ve addressed the glitches. I’m told I have the wrong user name or password. When I go to reset the password/username I’m told there’s no account associated with the email. I try to create an account and I’m told the email is already associated with my email address. After calling Safeco recently for a claim, that’s actually a prompt to select a number if there are problems with the mobile app! It’s a mess!.Version: 2.2.1

Good Idea, Terrible ExecutionThe app’s driving tracker needs readjustment because “hard braking” is far too sensitive at the moment which makes driving in traffic a huge pain in the neck. How the app wants you to brake is to decelerate and not lose more than 8 miles per second which is fine until you apply this method in real life. There are far too many factors when driving that could require you to brake harder than what the app wants you to do yet you get penalized for avoiding collision. “Hard braking” is a terrible metric to measure a driver’s skill and safety level..Version: 4.0.0

Worthless AppStay away from the app & SafeCo/LibertyMutual. The App is merely a tool SafeCo/Liberty Mutual uses to prevent so many customers from calling and speaking to live customer service. Like the website, the app is NOT accurate, it is NOT updated with the information you provide to the app or the customer service rep (claims specialists), and as far as “Booking a Rental”, it does no such thing. It gives you the information and location of the rental car companies they have contracts with and allows you to click a button. You click a button to “book a rental, then it confirms you have booked a rental, only you have NOT. There is not a confirmed vehicle at any of those locations for you. You STILL have to call each car rental location to find a rental, while none of the places do anything to help you find one, none offer you an up charge for an upgrade to get you in a car, NOTHING. I never had this issue with State Farm, Progressive, Farm Bureau, or Geico. The $20 difference a month? Totally worth paying a higher price for the better experience with better customer service at competent insurance companies..Version: 2.4.0

App needs some TLC!Seems like the developers or Safeco forgot they have an app. The app hasn’t been updated to support iPhone X much less the XS and XS Max. Like other reviewers I cannot view my insurance card. I mean at a minimum the app should do that even it not full screen. Poor experience with the app and I hope that does not translate into a poor experience all around. My agent says they are a really good company. And Liberty Mutual is the parent so as long as I get great service and coverage then that’s more important but if I have to rate this app I’m finding it hard to even give it one star. Maybe half star is more realistic. I see no benefit in having this app take up valuable memory space on my phone..Version: 1.0.8

Stay Away from this SCAM app and company! They lure you in with a huge proposed discount on your car insurance to give you this app that tracks your precise location. No matter how you drive, it will give you a low enough score to not give you a discount. On purpose, I tested it driving 35 mph on a road alone, in my Tesla on self driving. So it’s literally impossible to drive outside a lane. In this car you don’t even need to hit the brakes because it slows itself down with regenerative braking smoothly to a slow stop. I did this to test the app and it said I had hard braking…. On a 35 mph road alone with only two stops that the car slowed at a grandma’s pace to come to a stop. It rated me 82% which goes from a 30% discount to zero. It’s a 100% scam to deny the discount quoted to give you a better price..Version: 4.6.0

Too sensitive!I am a grandmother of two and drive a HYBRID Honda that basically drives like a slow lawnmower! I drive like a grandmother. I’ve driven almost 100 miles in the past couple of days of using the app. I have all excellent ratings except for 1 “hard brake” that I was not even aware happened because I had no incidents of needing to brake hard. Now my overall rating on soft braking is “good” instead of “excellent”. The app is detecting the braking way too sensitively. The app may end up making me move to a different insurance company. I’m 50 years old and haven’t had a ticket or wreck in 20 years or more. I’m an extremely safe driver and don’t appreciate the app dropping my overall rating due to 1 false “hard” brake..Version: 3.6.0

MehIt’s an ok insurance company, not too expensive. My only complaint is I tried to get an special quote because I’ll be storing my car since I’m going to military Boot Camp. First I called a representative in Spanish and she said they didn’t do that (I notice a lack of knowledge so I decided to call again to an English representative). This other one said o could do it but I had to get a document through DMV and call again. Definitely something o won’t do since I’m leaving tomorrow and even if I had time I find it unnecessary. I know there’re others insurance companies that make things easier for costumers. I’ll definitely get different company when I have the chance..Version: 3.5.0

What a joke!Safeco Right Track is basically designed to make SURE you don’t get a discount. We drove perfectly throughout their 90 day probationary period without any accidents and they gave us a fair score. Problem is if you’re a good safe defensive driver you may occasionally brake a bit hard. You do and the app dings for so called “hard braking!” Need to accelerate to get on the highway? It dings you for “rapid acceleration!” Instead of rewarding you for good driving it takes away any so called discount. Complete farce designed to make sure they charge you more..Version: 4.6.0

RightTrack function is horribleIf you drive in any sort of traffic you’ll get dinged for “hard braking” simply for being a good defensive driver. If your car has any kind of automatic collision prevention where it’ll automatically apply the brakes, prepare for “hard braking” to be put on you by the app. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure that Safeco gives any credit for collision prevention systems in cars….maybe I should disable the system so I can brake to Safeco’s liking. Oh…and Safeco’s evaluation of your driving through the RightTrack app is 120 days….ONE THIRD of the year! Have to accelerate onto the interstate and have a short “on ramp”? You’ll get dinged for hard acceleration. Grabby brakes? Touchy clutch? Yep…you’ll get dinged. Never mind that you’ve avoided accidents this entire time… My advice: if you have to use the app, put it on a separate device, do the minimum number of miles, and then put that device away until the 120 days expires. Or find another insurance company. As it is I’m only slated to save $120/year…i’d gladly give that to another company that doesn’t need me to drive their app..Version: 3.6.1

Needs improvementI echo other comments in that it appears they just used a mobile-friendly version of the website. Both need improvements in the way Billing is presented and used. Specifically, the due date for a payment online (website or app) is different from the bill I receive in the mail. Thank goodness I choose to keep paper statements for insurance companies. Also need to be able to schedule a payment at a future date—currently only option is the current date. Also it would be nice to view cancelled policies and billing for them. It’s confusing Safeco uses a different “billing account” for each policy as well. Finding and reviewing coverage/PDF of policy isn’t intuitive at all. It’s nice I can initiate a claim online, but if I need to do that I want a live human being for it..Version: 2.1.4

Please readI have no words for this awful, shady company. Be prepared to being passed off with little explanation to another adjuster when you deny acceptance of a low ball claim even though you had a 35 ft. tree fall across your roof during a heavy storm. Be prepared for them to ignore the documentation and pictures you sent of the incident. Instead you will receive a text pushing you to accept the low amt. and than a letter but not a phone call from tour adjuster after you repeatedly reached out. Second adjuster doing the same thing with emails and voicemail. Denied that too. Now nothing. Going the legal counsel route. :(.Version: 4.1.0

LousyTake a moment to really look at the trips before you confirm them. The app doesn’t make its assumptions look very different, so it’s easy to accidentally confirm a trip that you don’t mean to. For instance, I took a long trip yesterday, driving to my destination in the morning and returning home in the evening. I went to confirm the trips and as I did, I realized too late that one of them thought I was a passenger. Unfortunately, once you click confirm there is no way to edit that trip or even review it. It would be nice if there was a more obvious indicator of what the app thinks you were doing other than the very small print. On that same note, it would be nice if the edit button was larger or at least not right next to the confirm button, as I have accidentally confirmed trips that I meant to edit. Frustrating UI combined with excessive location tracking makes me regret signing up..Version: 4.4.0

Does not track real timeSo far I have been using the app a little over a month. What concerns me is that the app is not able to track in real time and when I go to view and confirm trips it becomes unclear at what time I was driving or a passenger. The times often don’t match mile mileage tracker. The other concern is that lanes used to merge into traffic are short and require acceleration to merge safely. The other issue is people always thinking that being one automobile in front of you is better than being behind you. That’s why I use cameras in my vehicle, so that if the situation arises I will have video documentation. It would be nice if they would have the ability to use cameras to match the events. I just hope at the end of the end of the driving review a print out is provided. That my reasoning to only be able to rate at 2 stars..Version: 4.6.0

White text on white backgroundSince there is no place to report bugs with this app through Safeco (I have emailed and called, etc). Hopefully the developer will see this here. When trying to save any of your policy documents or ID cards in the iPhone Files app, y’all have designed a screen where the “Save” and info buttons are white text on a white background. I have spent the last 3 renewals in frustration because the dialog box would open and there was no obvious way to save. By happenstance, I hit the save button by accident when trying to close the screen in frustration. Since no one needs the app that often, I forget every time (I only seem to need the app about once every 5-6 months). There is no way that I am the only one dealing with this issue. Hopefully this lands on the desk of someone who can do something about it. (It is not really a “1 star” app, but how else will I get the developers attention). Thanks.Version: 4.6.0

Our experience.I opted out of autopay a few months back like April, when Safeco decided to double dip into my bank account. 2 months ago, May, Safeco took it upon themselves to once again double dip into my bank account even though autopay was turned off, my routing number removed, and I used my bank card to pay with. Go to this week July 19th and once again Safeco double dipped BUT WAIT.. this is the best part, I used my husbands card to pay it.. BUT WAIT. they also took it upon themselves to charge my bank account a few days later EVEN though autopay was turned off and my account was removed from the payment options FOUR MONTHS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. now let’s fast forward to Friday July 23, they decided again that one payment and a almost second payment was not enough… THEY THEN CHARGED MY.. MY BANK ACCOUNT AGAIN even though they got their money with my husbands card. Safeco is a joke, and I do not recommend them to anyone..Version: 2.2.1

Trouble with Claims Department RespondingFiles a claim in May without going into great detail about it here, claims is slow and at times no response. I have all the emails and text but basically this: original claim did not include some of the damage even though I pointed it out to the inspector. He said forgot to submit, later said he lost photos, I some I took to him. This was May 2023. June the claims agent said she would upload approval for work and photos. August had to submit photos again, and email about damages again. September and still waiting..Version: 4.6.0

Not any better than just using the websiteThis app appears to just embed a web browser of Safeco's mobile-friendly website. Aside from being able to use TouchID/FaceID to login, I don't think this app provides any functionality you couldn't get using the web browser on your phone. And the app is old enough it doesn't use the full screen dimensions on a modern iohobe, so the web browser actually works a little better..Version: 1.0.8

Can’t upload photosIt appears it is necessary to use a mobile phone to upload damage photos. I have a desktop computer with email. I have a iPad Pro with email and the Safeco app but still cannot complete my claim without sending photos of the damage. I was told on the phone that I would be given an address where I could upload the photos I have of the damage. Not true. The email contained a button that started a process telling me that I was not on a proper device to use this function, that I needed to use a mobile phone. I was never told when I purchased this insurance that I would need a mobile phone to file a claim. It should be very simple. If it can be done on a mobile phone why can’t it be done on an iPad? Even more important why can’t the process be done on a desktop computer?.Version: 2.5.0

Not worth itI’ve been doing it for 70 days now. I understood it tracked your hard breaking, acceleration, and nighttime driving but no one ever said it tracks if you are on your phone driving. I use my phone to listen to Sirius XM. That is not being on my phone while driving yet it has impacted me negatively. Also I have 20 days left and my husband and I confirmed several trips with good driving but our discount rate has suddenly stopped increasing. The whole thing is a sham, they tempt you with 30% possibly and then cut you off when they want. The data collected is not accurate. And They get so much data from you that they probably sell to others. If I could choose to do it again, I wouldn’t..Version: 4.4.0

Terrible "App"This app should actually be banned for violating terms of the App Store Guidelines, specifically section 4 Design, subsection 4.2 Minimum Functionality: "Your app should include features, content, and UI that elevate it beyond a repackaged website. If your app is not particularly useful, unique, or “app-like,” it doesn’t belong on the App Store. If your App doesn't provide some sort of lasting entertainment value, or is just plain creepy, it may not be accepted." I just actually got stuck on a webpage within this app and couldn't even get back without force quitting it. Please remove this embarrassment, Apple..Version: 1.0.4

App is confusingWhen clicking on the icon on the mobile app, it goes to a white, blank screen and sits there forever, doing nothing. Upon looking thru my text messages from Safeco, I saw a link and clicked on it which took me directly to the web site. I noticed the URL was completely different from the one connected to the app. Once logged into the web site, I wanted to pay our bill in 2 installments with auto pay. I enrolled in auto pay and then went to change the date of payment. I could not get the bill to break down into 2 installments and wound up looking at a completely different monthly payment schedule than the paper statement I had in front of me. I gave up and set up auto pay for 1 installment for balance in full. I am not an inexperienced computer user and have used apps and computers for many years with some coding. Someone needs to step back and go thru this app, thinking like a consumer instead of a programmer, because there is no logic in this app whatsoever..Version: 4.13.0

Too sensitive/inaccurateI’ve been flagged for heavy braking 10 times now. Only once did I brake heavily to avoid hitting someone who ran into the road. I have DASHCAM footage with data on my speed, g force and location to back that up. I called Safeco. They don’t want to see it. Not surprising - it’s to their benefit to give out smaller discounts. I find that if I keep my iPhone in my pocket or wedged someplace where it can’t move at all it’s fine. If my phone can move around even a little I’ll get flagged for heavy braking for coming to a gradual, complete stop at a stop sign. It’s ridiculous. I didn’t have this issue with a different insurer’s app last year..Version: 4.2.0

Right Track is woefully inaccurateAvoid using. The app uses GPS data to track acceleration and braking. Insurance rates aren’t determined by your actual driving record, but rather by isolated data points that don’t account for road conditions, amount of traffic, or the fact that as a driver much of what you do is in response to other drivers’ actions. To make matters worse, the app consistently records hard braking or rapid acceleration when no such thing has occurred. It definitely does not measure whether or not you are a “safe driver.” It doesn’t even accurately measure the level of risk of risk that the company is taking on when they insure you. For example, if someone runs stop lights, that’s totally fine, just so long as they brake incredibly gently. If someone stops abruptly in front of you or cuts into your lane, then your score takes a significant hit because you responded appropriately. And there’s no way to raise your score. Once your score drops a percentage point, no amount of “good” driving will raise it, you’ve merely lowered the ceiling on your score, which will be used as justification to raise rates in the future..Version: 4.13.0

Worst app it has been my misfortune to use.Despite my insurance company suggesting and assuring me all my info and tasks needed to pursue my homeowners claim can be handled with this app, nothing could be further from the truth. The Liberty insurance app they also repeatedly urged me to use never even allowed me to sign in. I had that same problem with this one but eventually was able create an account. Too bad it crashed immediately after and I only found out weeks later I was successful when the company sent me a physical letter confirming the account creation. Since then all my efforts trying to use this app have been a waste of my time. The features don’t work and the options offered don’t apply to my situation. Yet the company behaves as if everything can be handled through this portal, and all my communications by text, email or phone are apparently ignored..Version: 3.8.0

ClaimsThis as been far the worst company to deal with if you have a claim. They want to pay the least they can and you have no idea why???!! The adjuster and the contractor can be on the same page but the company will come back and lower it more than 1/2 or more than what the cost can be. Same problem with a hail storm about 5 years ago. I stuck with them because I’ve literally had them for almost 20 years. And until recently I’ve seen a decline in their customer service and willingness to help or want to pay claims. But their premiums continue to get higher and they sure don’t help you when you have a problem! And mind you I have only had 2 claims In The past 2 years. I’m not one to turn everything in! So you would think they would be willing to help..Version: 2.4.0

Bad insurance agentWhen I call the agent number the agent does not speak to me it sounds like the phone is answered then hung up on me. Also they are only supposed to charge me $65 a month and they charged me $166 last time and when I called technical support to be able to talk to anybody they said my insurance went up I’ve done nothing for my insurance to go up and last I checked the older you get with a clean driving record your insurance is supposed to go down. I’m canceling this insurance today.Version: 4.2.0

No fingerprint support; doesn’t remember passwordImagine this, I’m in an accident, want to use this app, which I haven’t logged into in ages... just emailed I want the app the most, I’ve forgotten my password... I’m trying to talk to people, the app won’t work, gotta call people... or I want to check my policy... or... but the app doesn’t remember my password. The way banks handle this is they let you create a read/only account, and/or use iPhone’s fingerprint reader. No risk to anyone, and now I don’t have to remember a password. Now I *use* the app. I create aggressive passwords that protect me. The only risk is when phone is lost or stolen... but with 10 tried wrong passwords, phone erases itself or I can remotely erase manually, if my phone was stolen. Alternatively, you’ve incentivized me to pick weak, easy to remember passwords in order to use your app, which means I don’t use the app. Every major bank has a solution to this. You should also..Version: 1.0.5

They would rather you run a red lightI am a good driver. Have been driving for 40+ years. I have made 125 trips with this app monitoring me. 2 trips I had 1 event of “hard” braking and got a “FAIR” rating. It takes many trips to see your savings go up. Less than 2% of my trips are “FAIR” and when you get one fair it drops your savings instantly! Not sure the refresh rate on phone gives them what they really need as one time I know I had an excellent trip but it gigged me for it. I am still scratching my head. Seems like the 30% is fake news but we will see. Who hasn’t approached a light and it starts to change? You have to make a choice. Be safe and stop or be SafecoRightwaySafe for your score and blow it. You decide. In theory this is a good concept. In practice the app is wrong, emotionless and unforgiving..Version: 4.0.0

Contact infoI was told by a claims rep on the phone that no phone number was present for my account when he looked it up by the policy number but that I could update that by going to the web page or the app. When I looked for the place to do that under Personal Info, or Contact Info, or whatever the wording was, the only item that could be changed was my email address, no place for phone contacts at all..Version: 1.0.8

Hard breaking at stop signs?Called SafeCo and was advised that your phone needs to be 100% secure/steady in the car because it’s the actual phone that is being tracked and not really how you are driving. So any sliding or movement of the actual phone can affect your “score”. We use Life360 and have been using it for years. It has better software that actually tracks how you are driving…even tells me when my teens are using their phones while driving! Maybe you should contact them to see how to improve your software!.Version: 3.6.0

Right track App is a jokeThis right track program is a joke. The App has issues tracking location and relating correct location information. It only tracks deceleration and acceleration which is sensitive enough to be set off if you start your forward roll on a hill. That’s the only information it tracks to tell if you are a “good driver”. Should you feel the need you could run every stop sign from here to Florida while doing 90mph and still get an excellent review for the trip..Version: 3.8.0

Right Track is seriously flawedRight Track purports to evaluate your driving. Its algorithm requires your precise location. Right Track does not function unless you give it this permission. One would think, therefore, that Right Track would know when you were on an actual road as opposed to, for example, a mountain trail, a ski run, or a body of water. I found out the hard way that it doesn’t. My Right Track “evaluation” includes skiing, running downhill and boating. I admit that I’ve had to make some sudden stops while on skiis but I think it’s rather unfair that this should affect my auto insurance premium. The algorithm furthermore does not know if you are on a curvey pot-holed road or a freeway. It does not know if you are driving with snow or ice on the road or a clean dry surface. It does not know if you are in rush hour traffic or an open highway. It does not know if you’ve been caught in a sudden deluge of rain or an unexpected gust of wind. It doesn’t even know if you are traveling uphill, downhill or level. How can Safeco can know the quality of your driving without knowing the conditions under which you are driving. In fact, it doesn’t even know if you are driving, skiing, running or boating..Version: 4.0.0
