✓ Doesn’t clear Notification count on home pageThe app doesn’t have a way to clear the notification count on the home page. It also seems to display all of the notifications on a single page. This seems to be causing a rather ridiculous amount of slow down when opening the notification tab as it attempts to load a list of every notification it has ever sent all at once. I enjoy your site, but you already seemingly switched your entire focus to the app which basically forced me to download the app. Now I discover that the app itself seems rather poorly optimized..Version: 60.0

✓ Convenient, but Poor NavigationIt’s easy to use and convenient for travel or when you want to save stories to read offline. However, I think there needs to be a lot of improvement with the viewing and filtering system. If I go into the page that shows all of the works for a particular author, it is hard to sort the list of works (e.g. if you choose to sort by publish date then it shows all of the newest works first and you can’t view the oldest works until you scroll to the bottom) and the filter options only let you filter by fandom. This is a huge problem if I’m trying to view the works of an author that has written over 300 fanfics for the same fandom, the filtering system should definitely be improved. Also, if I select to view the works in my downloaded library by alphabetical order then I can’t scroll between sections but have to manually select the section I want to view (e.g. select A to see works starting with that letter and then having to go back to the menu and select C to view works starting with that letter). Will definitely change my rating if updates are made to improve the problems with the current system..Version: 27.8

✓ Good layout, but won’t load...The layout is really nice and easy to use- I love the ability to change font size and page colour. Its easy to find things and search for stories, but about 50% of the time, stories won’t load or my profile won’t load. ✓ Needs serious work, lots of UI/UX bugsThe navigation and UI/UX could use some serious work. There isn’t an immediately obvious “Read” button in an accent colour when accessing a story. I had to tap on the story in the search results then tap again on the description to start reading a story (after spending time scrolling up and down being confused as to how I’m supposed to start reading). I also have an issue where if I navigate away from the app and back (accessing notification bar or control centre, when multitasking etc.), the text would lose its place and you would just be randomly deposited way further down the page. I have to spend 10-30 seconds each and every time scrolling up to find my place again. This basically makes the app unusable in my opinion..Version: 29.0

✓ Version 17.4 broke the appUsed to be an absolutely essential app to read and record reading history of all the FanFiction stories read. Since updating to version 17.4 ‘last reading’ and library function no longer retains details of stories accessed and read. Have lost favourites and following tags on stories. Version 17.5 hasn’t fixed the issue. Very frustrating to manually re-find the story I was reading 30 seconds ago but the app has forgotten. I’ve emailed the developer through the bug report in the app. Really hope this can be fixed quickly but until then read at your peril, or at least with a pen and paper to hand to keep your own list!.Version: 17.5

✓ App stopped workingSo I use this app quite often and a lot of the fanfictions are quite nice. Recently I encountered a problem. What’s happening is that it will not let me go on my profile, read fanfictions or let me search for any new ones so basically the app just stopped working. ✓ Remote controlI usually use this app for its text to speech, worked great, but the last time I used it the pause, play functionality on my headphones doesn’t seem to work any more. ✓ Mediocre, horrible updatesI used to like this app, finding it perfectly fine to use. It’s very hard to navigate at first, but you do get used to it. Although, my biggest complaint would be the updating. Normally, I love it when an app updates. But for FF, I seem to dread them, wondering if I can delay the automatic update somehow. They’re quite problematic, especially since all they seem to do is ‘fix bugs’ and ‘smooth scrolling’. Of course, the bugs were annoying, but I deduced that most of us know how to deal with them. I’m glad they’ve supposedly been fixed. Scrolling is such a trivial thing to work on. As a customer, I can assure you we don’t care about that. My biggest problem with updates is that they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Sure, some bugs are fixed, but at what cost? At the comfort of writing. For a few bugs, I find it uncomfortable to write. Firstly, the writing font has gone all funky. It’s too big, so I changed the size, only to find I’m unhappy about that too. It barely changed. You can’t change the font either through settings, only the reading font. Secondly, how the heck am I supposed to have titles and time skips if I’ve lost my liberty to choose whether the words go on the side or in the centre? It’s ridiculous. Several concerned parties have email the support team over the course of MONTHS and have yet to receive a response. Every single thing that can go wrong does; it’s just a continual roller coaster of frustration and irritation. The menus and interface are confusing and unintuitive; but they can be improved. You need to brainstorm how to make the interface easier for users because as it stands its so weird that I go out of my way to just use the desktop site. Youre only getting away with it because the service is so unique. Here are some suggestions: In broad strokes, what do people want to when they open the app? Read, publish/edit/write their stories, maybe change some settings, view the forum, answer pms/notifications (nobody gets on the app to share the app, if they wanna do that theyll just text their friend the name of the app) (How come when I open the app one of the easiest options I have access to is AI?) Everything else can be categorized into these things. So your dock options (the bottom bar that you can always see) should either BE these things, or give near immediate access to them. Whichever you think is the most important goes in the middle. Options in no order should be: READ, PUBLISH, COMMUNITY, PROFILE, SETTINGS All options regarding the community, and your features which have to do with directly interacting with others should be there. Forums + forum creator (wild that these are in 2 different tabs), PMs, notifications (this should probably just be a button in the corner though), favorites/follows, friends Read: library, stories, crossover, favorites/follows Publish: pretty much the same, I can tell you put a lot of work into making this particular portion easy for the user. But add AI here. Profile: everything relating directly to the user and their work. Notifications, recent reviews, friends, alerts, profile settings (username, pfp, etc.), share Settings is app settings. I want the app to be better so people use it more and can get more into fanfiction. So apologies if this came out harsh..Version: 58.2

✓ Was good but won’t load properly anymoreThis app was good and I’ve spent ages using to read many different types of stories, some really well written too! However, since the last update the app will not load the stories, from any of the categories, at all. It’s just endless loading. This has never happened before and it’s no good. This needs to be fixed, otherwise the apps useless. Also, a suggestion I think would be useful would be to add the ability to exclude more characters from a story. You can pick 4 characters to have in a story and that’s good. However, if the fandom has a big cast and you can only exclude 2 like oc’s and someone else, your still possibly stuck with another couple who you might not want. ✓ Has a long way to go before replacing desktopAfter the mobile site no longer allows mobile users to switch to the desktop version, I had no choice but to use this app. And right away there are problems. The lag being a big factor. But another big factor is that when I go into doc manager to upload my stories, I can’t upload files as it just shows a blank screen. So I have to copy and paste onto their text box and apply all my fonts and italics all over again. ✓ Not too badThe app is okay, however anytime there are updates what I have been reading disappears and i have to make sure I remember the title of what I’m reading. I also wish you could see your reading progress as it makes it difficult to see which ones have been read already. I have my favourites I reread occasionally however this version of ff I only have 230 stories and it makes searching for a new story to read more time consuming as I have to go into each story and see where each one is at. Also the folders, you put titles into it and they don’t always stay there. I have one that says I have 54 but when I go into it there are only 13. So overall, okay but could be better.Version: 18.6

✓ ReloadsGenerally, I’ve really enjoyed using this app however recently a long standing issue with the app has gotten much worse and the app is near unusable. The app has always had an issue where occasionally a chapter wouldn’t load so you were forced to swipe up and reload the app. Recently, this happens after every single thing including chapters and searches. Not to mention even after reloading, certain chapters still refuse to load so I’m forced to completely restart my device before it works. ✓ Good App, Hard to NavigateI would have rated it higher, however, it was difficult to navigate unlike the actual website where every tv show, game, anime, etc, was split up into their own categories with in could be easily found and the stories I’m looking for found even easier with the ability to select things, like story length, language, genre and searching for stories with those properties. There was also some problems when reading stories, the bottom and top banners would come and go at the slightest provocation and I would accidentally switch chapter just as easily when not wanting to do any of this..Version: 10.0
✓ No longer supportedI used to use this app after a fan reader was taken off the App Store. Sadly this is no longer accessible to me either as it is no longer supported on my device, which is most disappointing considering it was working fine less than a week before. Why they don't provide the older version, I don't know. I can't access it in an easy matter as the other apps available are nowhere near as polished or compatible with my iPad. ✓ My favorite app, when it worksI absolutely love reading on FFN but this past year I’ve experienced bug after bug and problem after problem, from logging me out randomly and almost not letting me back into my account to not letting me open my stories, then not saving my progress when I finally DO get them open, I tried uninstalling and redowoading to fix this since god knows the devs won’t bother to pay attention if I say anything (I’d know I’ve tried sending in help orders and reaching them on Twitter) but now it won’t even download anymore, not even giving me a reason why when I’ve had this app on my phone for years.Version: 58.0

✓ Just garbageBy default it has no book covers and outright has no images. The navigation and user friendliness of the app is nonexistent with many completely unnecessary layers. It’s the most awkward app I’ve ever used. To top it off the novels can’t even be divided into pages like kindle and the bookmark feature is only for chapters. You can’t put together a proper library of books you like with any level of organization, marking books read, unread or actively being read. The framework for all this is a fundamental failure in and of itself. There is no rating system. There is no way to look at a pool of popular fanfics from different sources. You can only look at a single source of fanfics (eg: Harry Potter) at a time and without any rating system you waste massive amounts of time finding decent novels. Some sources like Star Trek are under a dozen different titles and formats while Elder Scrolls is just one. When you finally pick the exact source of your fanfic you can only search a single maturity level of novel at a time. The novel word count limits only goes up to 100,000 which you can’t sort by. You can’t sort by gender of main character or by the gender of their relationships when you can already search for particular relationship pairs. It’s abrupt and unnecessary finding out part way through the story that the main character, a male, is actually gay and magically pregnant. There’s more but anyone who cares can just look at RoyalRoad’s website to see how proper sorting, searching and navigating should be done. There’s a lot of good novels on this site/app but they are massively let down by the site/app itself in every conceivable way..Version: 39.5
✓ It’s good but...It’s hard to navigate. It is easier than it was before but still hard to work my way through it. My main criticism is that you can’t search through the favourites. It’s a hassle having to go scroll through all your favourites just to find a particular story you are wanting to read. And also it would be so much better if we can read through our own library offline. I read a lot of FanFiction, and in the other apps they have offline reading which is why I didn’t use this app as much. However the other apps have completely stopped working and am unable to login and have to come back on here. Having the offline reading would be so much as I like to read when I’m on a long haul flight or somewhere where there is no internet connection.Version: 10.0

✓ Squandered potentialThis app could be a fantastic upgrade from the browser experience for both readers and writers. Instead it’s laggy and unresponsive, there are very few features to make it easier to browse, no way to mark stories as read, every time it refreshes you lose your place in a chapter, the search is lacklustre and generally it’s a port with little imagination. I really hope to see better updates in the future. ✓ Logging in continuallyGreat range of stories, navigation is a little tricky but once you get used to it it's not so bad. New update means I have to log in every time I open the app... I hate it. It was nice that when I was in the middle of a story I could open it and it took me straight into it. Now I have to spend five minutes trying to remember my password and then finding the story I was in the middle of all over again. Recent reads are best for that, but updated stories make it a search. ✓ Voice OptionsI'm glad that they finally added more voices to the desktop version of this app because I enjoy Samantha (iphone) on the phone. However, although Samantha is the default now on the desktop app, there isn't a way to change the voice options. I belive the button is broken since there is still a section in the settings to is supposed to create a drop down menu. ✓ Poorly designed search/browse interfaceWhoever has been designing this app did not do so in consideration of people with poor eyesight. When browsing stories, text size can not be adjusted and honestly, the text size is so small that it’s probably at best pt. 8 size font. While text size is adjustable when reading the story, it’s very difficult to read the synopsis of the story when browsing. ✓ Great startI wish the app had more of the website layout that frequent users have come to know and love. It would be useful if there was a select all button when downloading favourites as I have over 1000 and had to manually select each one. ✓ Used to be good but now not so muchI agree with the other reviewers. The app used to be great but the recent changes have made it barely useable. It doesn’t remember where in the chapter you were, going to the start of a chapter (it didn’t used to). The bookmark feature can’t be turned off so I spend an awful lot of time cancelling the notification whilst reading. It now doesn’t remember which stories you were reading, what you recently downloaded or the progress of the stories. Chapters appear blank until refreshed restarting them. The new recommendations appears at the top of a chapter not at the bottom blocking the start of the chapter and neither is it compatible with the dark backgrounds. The text to audio is a nice feature but it’s clunky with some development work this could be a great feature. All in all the app used to be great it’s now ok but several recent changes make it barely useable..Version: 21.0

✓ The devil in the detailsOverall, it’s an exceptional app, it makes the process of finding and reading super seamless. there’s just little things that after a while can be really irritating. the jumping and moving when you try to scroll makes it hard to keep up to where you’re reading, and i wish you could lock the screen so the info bar stops popping in and out or you stop accidentally moving to a new chapter whenever your hand is on the side of the screen. also it can be buggy when loading new chapters that require you having to turn the app off and on again but this does happen fairly often..Version: 19.1
