Google Pay: Save and Pay for Negative User Reviews

The STUPIDEST app imaginableThe Old Google Pay app was great. It was very simple. This new app is extraordinarily convoluted. It has no section to receive money and absolutely no ability to integrate from the old app. The customer service is beyond horrible. My name on the old app wouldn’t transfer and I tried contacting cs. They wanted me to uninstall & reinstall. We were connected through the New app. I asked if that would disconnect us. They said No. Of course it did. Then after talking to 3 different agents none of them understood the problem, but want more screenshots. I used a different email to connect to the new app, since the old one has some undefined fatal error. And I still have absolutely no way to either input old contacts or receive money from them. I thought I found it and NOPE, it was sending a text message to someone to download the new app, not connect with me. After fiddling around with it for an hour of credit card info, password changes, requiring a passcode on my phone. I gave up! I decided to simply use another system. This is beyond ridiculous! They should have just kept the old app exactly as it was..Version: 118.0

Worst appJust found out about Google offers and would love to use Google pay more, but I’ve found this app to be confusing and difficult to navigate. As great as some of the Google offers are, something as simple as saving and adding the offer to your account is a process in itself. I’ve literally used this app twice and both times, I wondered to myself “did the offer go through” as there is no way to check! I’m currently waiting on customer support to check my latest transaction... added offer to my account, accessed the website through Google pay app, and made my purchase with the eligible credit card on file....after all is said and done, THERES STILL NO INDICATION OF WHETHER THE OFFER WENT THROUGH ARE NOT. How hard is it to have a notificAtion that says “sorry this offer can’t be used anymore” or a “congrats, you have successfully utilized the offer, please wait for further processing”?? Additionally, opening a chat ticket to ask for help is another hair pulling process in itself. Once this issue is resolved, this will probably be the last time I use this app, regardless of how great the offers are until all these little quality of life issues are fixed. There are too many other great apps currently available for me to have to put up with this headache..Version: 118.0

Hate The New AppI LOVED the old google pay and used to recommend it to all my friends/family. It was easy to use, intuitive, and automatically transferred money paid to me to my debit card without fee. This new google pay took all of that away. It’s confusing. It’s convoluted. You have to pay a fee to transfer money to your debit card. Didn’t even realize it was holding the money paid to me in a “google account” until I looked at my bank account and wondered why my google payments hadn’t come in. You now have to go in and pay out your own money to your debit card for a fee or to your bank account if you want to use a different separate service to connect your bank account to google pay :/ absolutely not impressed. What was wrong with the old app that google needed to create this trash?.Version: 127.0

DON’T UPDATE APP!!I don’t know who’s idea it was to make a new app for google pay. This is the worst thing ever. The older version of the app was by far the easiest thing to use, for me ever better than cash app or other apps similar. This new app is way to complicated and not easy/ friendly to use. There are more fees in the new app that there wasn’t in the first one. You also have to re-enter all of your banking and card info and they don’t make that easy either. They made a new app when they should’ve just updated the old one or make it easy for their consumers and have all of their info already put in or transferred. They also try and force you off the old app. If you have the old app and send someone money, that person won’t get it because you have the old app but it will still say that it was taken out of your account and you and the other person have to get the new app to get the money with a fee being charged when there was never a fee in the old app. If I could give a no star I would!!!.Version: 118.0

Wow Google…This is honestly the worst update I have ever experienced. Talk about “fixing” something that wasn’t broken. This app used to be hands down the best money transfer app, and then all in one horrific forced update - they destroyed it. The new interface is completely convoluted, and they’ve now added a fee to deposit your money..like google isn’t a multi-trillion dollar corporation. Furthermore they now say there is no way to cancel a transaction once it has been sent which has never been the case in the past. I’m not often compelled to write reviews but honestly this “update” was just offensive. Keep the old app as long as you are able too..oh yeah they make you download an entirely new app for this trash as well. Hopefully if enough people call Google on this gargantuan lapse in judgment, they will just give us the old app back...Version: 127.0

Horrible app, horrid experienceI recently tried to make a separate account for my photography business on the new google pay app which turned into a total nightmare. I attempted to make a $1.00 payment from my regular account because I’ve had problems paying people basically every time I’ve tried to make or receive a payment. I wanted my clients to have access to an alternative to cash especially with COVID rapidly spreading. Of course it did not work and in turn, my personal account was suspended for supposed fraudulent behavior for making a $1 test payment. so all my money on my account is just gone, my balance is at zero and I haven’t received a refund in over a week. Needless to say, I will not be using google pay even after my identity is verified. what a joke of an app, taking people’s money for absolutely no valid reason.Version: 127.0

Bad product and customer serviceI didn't know I used an offer by using the card I linked to Google Pay and I needed to return an item due to the quality issue. I did made another purchase on the same day that meet the offer requirement with the same card. The offer only recognize my first purchase and it can't be removed at all. First, under the offer information, there is no clear words saying, make a purchase with the card in store will activate the offer. Second, it doesn't make sense that once the offer activated, it cannot be deleted, and it can't track other transactions. I can't believe as a well-known tech company, Google made such a bad product. Even the offer in other banks can track other transactions. The customer service is worse. I asked to speak with their supervisor and they told that their supervisor would reply same as them and refused to let me talk to the supervisor. I would let people know do not use this product..Version: 127.0

Won’t release MY money $100 stuckI attempted to send $100 from my debit card to a friend who I have sent money to multiple times without issue. Well this time the payment failed and the money was taken from my account and not returned. I spent hours trying to get the money returned to my debit card account only to find out they put it on my google pay balance and then limited my account so I could not transfer it to my bank account Or Send to a friend . So now my money is just stuck on this account and I have no physical ID CARD at the moment so they will not fix my account to allow me to access my own money . I have tried contacting support multiple times and they have been completely useless to help . I never even authorized my money to be added to my google pay balance and now it is stuck there . I NEED TO BE ABLE TO ADD MY NEW DEBIT CARD TO GET MY MONEY BACK . This money was all I had left for a week and have received no help. Absolutely horrible.Version: 151.0

Difficult to navigate and InconvenientHonestly, worst app I have used to date. I have never struggled so much on an app like this. It makes no sense onto why this app needs so much personal information as well. As to how young I actually am and how I grew up with technology, you could believe I can easily navigate and figure out a simple form of an application that’ll “help” manage money. That is incorrect. I, for my dear life was unable to figure out how this really works. And apparently there’s some form of payment to access my own money or send/request it? Yeah, no. I’m not doing that. There’s better apps who are trusted and safe that I can use. It also didn’t make sense to me why it’s requiring me to put my SSN? Last time I checked... this is an app. Not a bank. Not a form of credit. Why is it needed? Yeah... no.. I’m not “verifying my identity”. I wasn’t given another option besides my SSN....Version: 118.0

False sense of securityI am extremely disappointed with this service. I’ve been trying to file a dispute for almost two months in regards to a fraudulent transaction, and due to Google Pay’s system issues, I have not been able to submit the dispute in which appears to be the only way possible, by using their APP. I’ve attempted to contact them by email, I’ve been disrespected by phone, and every time I’ve called (at this point around 7 times) I’ve been told to wait 48 hours for a resolution. As an act of desperation, I have requested to speak to a supervisor, and I’ve been told they don’t have any contact with supervisors; therefore, they were not able to assist me. I’ve been hung up on a few times, just because I’ve requested to have some kind of answer of what’s going on. In the meantime, my dispute was never filed, and I’m still waiting for them to fix their system issues. It is a real shame such powerful company has such terrible interface, and non existent customer service. I’ve searched online for information on how ti be able to contact a manager from this company, the the information is non existent as well. Only the same customer service number which is good for nothing. I even submitted a “formal grievance” about this issue, but never even received an acknowledgment from their part. As consumers, we use these type of platforms to feel a little safer while doing online transactions, but they have failed me miserably..Version: 160.0

Confusing App. This is not an updateI found the original Google Pay App very straightforward and helpful. I loved that it was simple for sending money directly to friends, much better than using PayPal, which holds the money in a balance like a middle institution. With Google Pay I send money to anyone via a phone number or email, they don’t need to set up a special account just use a debit card to receive it. And it was quick! I’m glad we can still use that app because this new one is completely different and a major step back in every way!! Maybe I don’t know how to use it, so please correct me if I’m missing something. Why can’t I send money to a phone number or email anymore? I do not like the extra step of first sending an App invite to someone, and that seems to be the only option now!! Why can’t I switch between my two Google Accounts anymore? It only allows one login and it says my other account cannot be used (which is a Google Voice number!). That eliminates one of the best features of using Google Pay, to transfer funds between my own accounts. Please keep the original App active! This one is totally different and unusable..Version: 118.0

Ok if you can wait 2 weeksThis review is more for the service than the app itself. The app is fine as far as functionality but it’s the wait time to get your money. Someone transferred money to me on 2/10 which did not get credited to me until 2/17. The credit then went to my google pay account which subsequently needed to be transferred to my bank account. Enter another “1-5 business days.” As of now, I can expect money that was transferred to me in February 10th to be available to me on February 22nd. That is totally unacceptable. The previous google pay app was an almost instant transfer. Now not so much. That being said, if you use this service like you would Venmo or Cash App and send only small amounts then I guess it’s not that big of a deal. Larger amounts though...I won’t be using this again. UPDATE: Small amounts are the same wait period. This is useless..Version: 118.0

DisappointingI usually don’t write app reviews, but I felt this one was a must. I absolutely loved the old Google pay, the reason this money transferring app was my favorite was because it offered everything the other apps did not. From instantly receiving transfers to your debit cards at no cost, to switching out payment methods. Now this new Google pay is heading in the same exact direction as Cashapp, where they want you to keep your money in their app. If you wish to do an instant transfer, they will charge you a fee. Only way to avoid the transfer fee is to transfer to your bank account, which can take up to 5 business days! It is unfortunate because the old app was perfectly fine. It was free and easy to use, and in my opinion well above the competition by a landslide. On top of the new unpleasant features the new app brings, it is also confusing to use. No changes were needed, Google dropped it on this one, and I no longer intend on using their app to transfer money..Version: 118.0

Beware! New App is Horrible!I will be deleting this app immediately! It’s so disappointing to have an app that you love and then go to use it one day only to discover everything you loved about it has changed. Typically, I like updates. This one, however, is horribly unnecessarily complicated. Plus, the new “update” includes being forced to pay a fee for instant deposit when using a debit card. Really Google? I HAVE to pay $15 to transfer $1000 out of my Google ACCT to my bank account if I’m using my debit card? But if I want to use my bank, it will take “up to” 5 days. No worries. I’ll wait. The absolute worst new update I discovered was when I tried to send money from one of my other accounts. I use my Google account to put money aside for my son. Essentially, a temporary saving. Anyway, I go to send money using my other account and was denied access to my own accounts. The message indicated that I HAD to use the money in my Google account before I would be allowed to send money from my other account. Wrap your mind around that. You’re being told that you cannot use your other accounts until you use all the money in your Google account. Unbelievably horrible. Not sure what Goggle was thinking, other than greed. I’ll be going back to Cash App. At least they give you an option to do instant deposit using your debit card. Extremely disappointed..Version: 127.0

New version a flopUsed and loved Google pay for a long time. Used to be able to receive payments that were automatically deposited to my PNC bank account. Now Google pay can no longer connect directly to my bank account, and deposit has to go through my debit card for which I am charged a fee. Tried contacting Google support, and their response was basically that It wasn’t their fault the Plaid platform they just started using isn’t accepted by PNC, and told me to contact PNC to try get them to change their policy.... So I guess I’m now supposed to get one of the largest banks in the country to change their security policy? (I think the issue between PNC and plaid has been going on for a few years now, and is a result of Plaid and similar companies trying to circumvent PNC data security protocols, so I don’t really expect this to be solved any time soon, but you should definitely fact check me on that) May be good for other people, but Google pay no longer is capable of doing what I need it for, so I don’t plan on using it anymore..Version: 127.0

Trash - DO NOT USE ANYMOREGoogle pay use to be PERFECT. I would send money from one of my cards to the other without using Zelle (too complicated doing it when it’s your money to your other account), cash app (didn’t want to do because of the fees to deposit), and I definitely didn’t want to wait 3-5 business days for my money to be available in my account when I need it NOW. Well they’ve completely changed that. They won’t let you back into the old app where all of the magic was. You’re being forced to use their new app, where you HAVE to pay fees to deposit into your bank account or else you HAVE to wait the 3-5 business days. I use to conveniently switch back & forth from gmail to another since they had different cards.. well if you log out of Google pay, they completely DELETE your information & you have to re-add your card & information every time you log back in. I’m deleting this app & I suggest you do the same because for all of this, you might as well you cash app. At least with cash app, you get a card to use if you want to use your money immediately. 🚮.Version: 127.0

No longer alone in HATING Google Pay!Seemed fine right up until they demanded my driver’s license or passport to continue using it. I wanted to transfer rent money from a personal checking account directly to my roomie’s Google Pay account and had done so prior without incident. I will NEVER give that information to an app like this, I don’t need to and can use other methods of payment and transfer like PayPal which never makes transactions difficult. I can also keep writing checks or use my bank’s transfer offerings. AliExpress tried this too, and I told them NO as well. Not going to happen, not passing around personal information so it’s ‘we’re sorry we lost that in our latest breech or ransom attack’ or for them to store on servers for whatever reasons they may invent to do so. I’ve lost respect for them and it’s going to take a LOT to gain my trust again..Version: 127.0

2 weeks to deposit $200The tl;dr is if you can, avoid Google pay at all costs. Somehow someone decided it was a good idea for the money you deposit to take 5+ days to post if they’re feeling generous despite any worthwhile app having it available in literal seconds. (venmo or cash app) it’s going to take me two weeks one way or another to get the money I tried to deposit. At this moment Google is saying they retuned the money to my bank that I tried to deposit but I was able to call that bluff within 5 minutes of calling my own bank. So clearly they’re lying to the support team in an effort for them to take the blame. At this point I don’t know when I’ll get my money back if ever. On the bright side I’m trying to get my bank to use Zelle so I can pay my rent. Technophobic brainless landlord who only uses Zelle or Google pay aside, the moment I don’t have to use Google pay I will never touch it again. All of this because Google feels they have the right to gamble your money for 5-14 days in order to line the pockets of there CEO so he can take airplane rides with J Epstine to a private island. All in all, Google gives a good reason to have a corporate death penalty. Give me my money back Google..Version: 143.0

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE NEW APP IS TERRIBLETitle says it all. I’ve been using Google Pay for years and always loved the old app. I’ve resisted upgrading to the new app for the last few months, until today, when it finally forced me to. I am a tech geek and work in IT, and even I can’t describe how much I hate this new app. It is the opposite of user friendly and not aesthetically pleasing at all. It’s loaded with all these unnecessary features and pages which cause nothing but confusion. It changed contact names in my list. It can’t even see my entire transaction history...just bits and pieces over the last year or so. Google needs to either allow us to use the old app or completely revamp this one. I’ll be using PayPal and Venmo in the meantime. Good job Google...you really screwed up..Version: 127.0

Acts like a phishing scamNew app is trash, App Store shows reviews for the old app, old app is no longer usable If someone send you money it will be stored in your Google wallet. If you want it to go to your bank account via debit card like it used to work you need to provide your bank login credentials to include password and PIN number to a third party, Plaid (read PHISHING SCAM) and then charge you 1.5% to do what used to be free. As Google is in the data harvesting business it is absolutely scary that the want unfettered access to your banking credentials when all that has been historically necessary is the card number of the account you want the money on. Or you can use it as an ACH transfer and wait days for them to earn interest on your money before they give it to you. My login credentials for my bank have been changed and bank CSR escalated to fraud department..Version: 127.0

Poor Customer SupportI made a transaction with an activated offer through the Google Pay app in early January. After over a month of back and forth with the Google Pay Support Team because I never got the cash back, they finally asked me for a screenshot of the activated deal, which has long since expired. I provided proof of purchase, activation information, and everything they asked me for and they claimed that I had never activated the deal. The sole reason I made the purchase was to receive the cash back reward through Google Pay. I activated the offer, and made the purchase using the card that was set up for rewards in my Google Pay app. I’m very disappointed in Google Pay’s user interface as well as their customer support team, as they did pretty much the opposite of supporting me with this transaction. Save yourself the time & energy and use Apple Pay/Venmo/Zelle instead..Version: 118.0

WORST AND MOST CONFUSING UPDATE EVERThis is my first app review ever, but my anger of this app forced me to write it. I love and use all google apps. They are usually so easy to use and really helpful. I’m not sure what they were thinking with this new app. It’s impossible to “pay” anyone— even when you type a gmail address that is registered with this new app, it doesn’t “find” the person. The old app (while limited in what it can do) was easy, straight forward, and transferred money quickly. This app tries to be a budgeting app, Venmo, cashApp, bill tracking, social app, and more all in one but fails at doing ANY of this. I’m really frustrated and wish I can just have the option to use the old app. I should add, I’m not a Boomer and grew up with smartphones almost all my life. Yet I’m still not able to figure this out. Please at least make the old app available, and keep this for whoever wants to waste hours of their time figuring this out..Version: 118.0

HahahahahaI enjoy reading apple users who post worst comment or bad review. Why google pay? I thought…..wait….no.....i knew google stated once that google doesn't charge anything but then now customers of users are not free anymore. Congratulations google. Amen. I’m proud to be back to Apple Pay and cash app even though I don’t have banking account so I don’t have to go to the banking building nor worried about getting charged fees. Nah. Apple Pay and cash app don’t play at all as far as I know for sure I love enjoying Apple Pay/Apple Cash and cash app forever. Not PayPal, other unheard new companies. Nah. I do love google organization except for few features that are required to be paid for subscription. No thanks. That’s why I use my iCloud email forward to gmail instead so I use it as iCloud and gmail is secondary. Not back up. iCloud yes cause it doesnt need all peoples info exchanged. Just contactless payment instead of no credit card and no cash. Simple. Sorry hit google search is awesome as free forever..Version: 145.0

Way to ruin a good thing. This update is major a downgrade... seriously. I genuinely despise the layout, confusing settings and the fact that the app is so invasive I don’t feel comfortable with sharing ALL my bank account information with Google especially when I can’t even control how or where the money goes because the interface is so difficult to navigate. The developers have truly disappointed me and my fellow users. I used to rely heavily on Google Pay, but after this update I will be uninstalling and never using it again. Review Update: After Google banned me from using the old app I thought maybe I was too harsh and critical. I’ll give it another shot. WRONG OMG so terrible. I literally tried sending money for 30 MINUTES AND NOTHING WOULD WORK. I was scrolling through the 5 start reviews to see what the heck other people seen in this and so many of them were negative... with 5 starts?? I’m not sure it that’s user error or if Google is somehow behind the review ratings but this app definitely deserves a negative. I have switched over to Zelle and it’s sooooooo much better. Zelle, Paypal, Venmo, LITERALLY ANYTHING BUT GOOGLE PAY!!!! I really hope developers take this into consideration and kill this nightmare..Version: 127.0

Terrible and Confusing App - Old app mad way betterI thought new apps were supposed to be better and more user-friendly. This app is very confusing to use with a whole bunch of useless additions built in. All I want to do is simply add my credit card and use Google pay for quick easy payments. Instead of keeping the app user-friendly and intuitive to use Google decided to add all sorts of additional connections with businesses and moved away from quickly easily at a credit cards. Now you have to log into your bank account to use your credit card which is something I do not want to be put into my phone regardless of the supposed added security. I guess I will be sticking with Apple Pay everywhere now which was much easier to set up..Version: 127.0

I expect more from GoogleI invited a friend to use this app and was embarrassed after it changed over night. No warning about that the or explanation and do complete that we couldn’t walk into it or choose if we want to use it the new way. You guys are not the only game in town you shouldn’t take your customers for granted. I feel like this was the worse roll out that you’ve ever done and that it hurts your brand to bully your base in anyway. Everyone is watching you mess this up and apps are swooping in to provide this service in a clear, direct, inclusive way for the disgruntled voices. The group of 4 star reviews are skewed because they clicked through to the rant and didn’t realize they hit the wrong star number. We are summarily floored! I hope you’re listening. I want to say good things about this app again..Version: 118.0

Money taken out of account on the wrong day mess up bank accountThe type a bank account I have the money comes out immediately google pay request the money out from my bank on the 22 instead of the 19 which is the day I made and cancel the transaction call google pay they tell me that It my banks fault check with your bank that that’s your banks fault no I have proof in pictures that the money was requested from Google on the 22nd and there’s nothing that they would do to fix it no courtesy to put my money back in my account nothing so I will not be using Google pay once everything is said and done these are the reasons why companies fail I have all the proof all the proof I don’t mine waiting but I’m still upset because of the wrong information and because I do have pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!! For all my bank knows I asked for the money to be sent to google on the 22 instead of the 19 when I actually made the transaction. I still have those pictures my proof showing the money was wrongly taken out on my account after it was canceled on the same day. Zero stars is what I want to give google pay I apologize to the people I feel deserve an apology get better google I would get this app because I use to love google but the app is not the same I will not recommend this app..Version: 118.0

Read before creating an account!!!I was trying to purchase a watch from a site that didn’t accept Visa or Master cards. I had a bad experience with PayPal and have been leery of third party money transaction sites. I thought Google Pay would be better established with security features, but what they ask for when establishing a functioning account is suspicious! First, they wanted the typical info like name, address, birthdate, last four of my ssn. So, I’ve already shared substantial sensitive info about myself and then it asks for my full ssn. I reluctantly shared since this is info needed to establish a credit card…but still found this odd. Now I have one foot deep in the Google web and I couldn’t move beyond the personal identification page until I provided a copy of my driver’s license, a piece of mail with my address and worst of all a COPY of my social security card! I felt like I was joining the military again. Please use caution when using these apps, big giant companies want too much info!.Version: 143.0

Can’t Register Phone NumberI live in Puerto Rico (PR) we are part of USA and I'm using the Google Pay (Google Pay (old logo)) many times, when try to send money the app ask me to install this new GPay (new logo) as a early access because I can't send money. Downloaded and installed, then... I can't register because my phone number is from PR not USA. “We are part of USA” But what the heck!, people that live here in PR using Google Pay are fine without problem using Google Pay (as repeat old logo app) and by the way in the "United States: Supported payment methods" the list of banks YOU HAVE Banco Popular of Puerto Rico and im using another local in PR bank on my list of payments methods. You MUST INCLUDE Puerto Rico's area codes; 787 and 939 for the process of register correctly my account as well thousands of residents in PR and those who live as well in USA using phone numbers from PR. So you're giving a bad step for this early app for people of Puerto Rico and you strongly discriminate us. By the way too, Google recognizes us part of the USA on many services using our area codes... I have to use for emergency PayPal's service instead. Shame on you Google..Version: 117.1

Beware of this scam! When you activate a cashback offer, make sure you take a screenshot before you make the purchase. If your purchase doesn’t track and try to get support help, they’ll claim that you did not activate your offer. And once the cashback offer expires, it’ll be wiped clean from the app so you can’t go back to take a screenshot to prove that you did activate the offer. Google is thinking so highly of their software and thinks that all their users are stupid enough to use their app properly, in order to wiggle their way out of their obligation to pay user the cashback when the system doesn’t work. Don’t use! Paypal never disappoints with their offers and will go above and beyond to make things right when something went wrong..Version: 127.0

Terrible experienceUsed the old google pay app about a year ago to transfer money to a friend. Today needed to transfer money to same friend again. Launched the old app, but it asked me to go and download this new one. Stupid, but fine. Downloaded, re-enabled old cards. I see my friend in the list of people and it shows Invite button. Tried to invite him, but he already got the app and also sees me there with an Invite button 🤦‍♂️If we try to invite each other all it does - sends a message with a link go download the app. But we still can’t transfer money to each other 🤦‍♂️ Eventually my friend setup “bill to split” and requested money from me this way. I got push notification which launched this ap and it immediately crashed on launch. Another 🤦‍♂️. P.S. and new app icon is terrible too. Counter intuitive and hard to distinguish from other similarly awful google apps icons..Version: 118.0

Google, please discontinue thisYou can take your chances but for me the app is always returning an “unexpected error” when setting up a payment method. Now I can’t tip my doormen these holidays because I’m away and they sadly only take google pay. That’s one thing. Another concern is, if the developer of this app is unable catch and display exact errors, how can I trust that they’re not making other genius moves like storing my credit card information in plain text or something? The most frustrating thing is that there is absolutely no need for this terrible app to exist because the sphere is already saturated with great alternatives. Yet google is forcing this into the market and consumers are now sometimes stuck with it (because some entities adopt it and don’t accept other types of payments)..Version: 118.0

Can’t Buy GasI only got this app because a regular customer of mine only had or knew how to use Google Pay. I use many different cash apps. Almost all of them allow me to move money into my main bank without fees. Yes, most charge to instantly add to a debit card. If I can connect a bank account to Google Pay, it’s not anywhere as easy to do as the other cash apps. But my BIGGEST frustration with this app is I use this for mostly driving a customer around. I sure wish I could buy gas with it. I read all over the Internet on how to do it. The instructions are simple and clear. Just tap the “Pay” tab and scroll down to “Get Gas”. Problem is, there is hardly anything to scroll through… There are two things to pick from, food and parking. NOTHING about getting gas. This app is extremely difficult to figure, far more than it needs to be. Again, I’m only using it because I have a customer who only uses it. Apple Pay is worlds better than this app. Please! Confusing App and Will Not Let Me Change My Legal NameThis app is far more convoluted and confusing than I would have thought, to the point that I had to have somebody hold my hand and walk me thru the entire process of setting it up and learning how to use it. I’m 24, I was raised in the age of smart phones, this shouldn't be that difficult for me. But beyond that, when I tried to look at my personal info, it showed my legal name as something completely different from my own, and is locked, making it so I can’t change it. Which is INCREDIBLY STUPID if you ask me bc, even ignoring the fact that it just has me wrong??? People change their names!! Legally!!!! They realize their gender is wrong or they get married or divorced or something! And change their name! But you can’t do that here!! Also, while I realize that most payment apps charge you to remove your money, finding out from other reviews that they didn’t used to have that feature infuriates me even more than it did when i saw the fact they were going to charge me. All in all, its a one star from me, bc I just can’t figure it out despite growing up w technology, the movement of capitalism to where every single thing you use tries to charge you infuriates me, and the fact that they LITERALLY gave me the WRONG NAME and WILL NOT let me change it..Version: 118.0

I Hate the new updateGoogle Pay was so much better before. You used to be able to use multiple email addresses now you can only use one. So if you have a business and a personal email you can only use this for one email. I am frustrated because when setting up the new app I accidentally used my business email, I’m not sure how but I think an email was automatically selected for me and by the time I realized which email was there it was too late. I need to use it for a personal transaction and now I can’t. I also used to use it to send money to other accounts and I used to be able to help my mother who is not so computer savvy send money to her family members by signing into her account for her and sending what she needed sent. They also store your money in a google pay account similar to CashApp and you have to wait for days before your money is in the google pay account before you can actually send the money to your intended recipient, or you must keep money in your google pay account just sitting there for when you may need to send money to someone, but with all these things getting hacked from time to time it would not be wise to have money just sitting there. I am so frustrated and disappointed with this. Why fix something that isn’t broken?! Please change it back!!!.Version: 127.0

DO NOT GET APPI have never had trouble with any apps or the apps team EVER! This one stole money from me, was hard enough trying to find out how to contact them. They have no phone number, so spent 4 weeks going back and forth with one of the laziest team member(s) and was asked to file a dispute. The only dispute they have is a Peer to Peer unauthorized transaction. My bank shows I made to payments out when I had only made one and got that one payment sent back and put back into my account. They do not take the time to clarify why google took another $10 out of my bank. It does not show in app history two payments out only one because that’s all I made. I sent them proof and confirmed that my bank shows two transactions of $10 and my history only shows one because that is all I made and still get no clarification from the team members and they still fight me that I made two, and again asked me to put in a peer to peer dispute even though it was not a peer to peer dispute. Worst app ever! Do not waste the time. Stick to cash app and PayPal who I’ve never had problems with and always ready to help and clarify any and every situation!.Version: 118.0

Data mining garbage. Beware!BEWARE! This app will ask to invade your privacy and obtain access to your info (and share it with third parties) at least three separate times during initial setup, including sending all your contacts to Google and recording your third part credit card payment info so you can “earn rewards.” Besides that, it only gives you the option to pay recipients and not to request money unless they have downloaded this new app, gone through the setup, and made themselves “searchable,” even if they had the old app. This new app and new setup process is clearly all just so they can have the chance to sneakily gain your “consent” to obtain and sell your confidential data. Terrible app from a now terrible company. Try any of the MANY other options for money transfer apps instead. Your bank probably already offers Zelle within its own app and it will be faster and more secure..Version: 147.0

So many issuesI downloaded this to participate in the reward program with some friends and I can’t say I’m impressed. From the start it’s been nothing but difficult. I have had a google account for 12 years but for whatever reason it didn’t believe I existed and made me jump through a million hoops to verify my account, which is still not verified. I did a text verification, an email verification, I took pictures of myself and sent those in, I gave them my social security number, I scanned in pictures of my drivers license, I sent them a copy of my lease to prove my address, and the list goes on. It’s just ridiculous. I think it’s great that they’re taking safety seriously but this is just absurd. I spent hours collecting all the information they wanted from me and they still don’t think I’m a legit person. I think it’s safe to say after all of that and STILL not having my account verified I’ll be sticking with Venmo and PayPal.Version: 118.0

Truly terrible user experience!I’ve used payment apps (Google Wallet/Pay, Paypal, Zelle, etc.) for nearly as long as they have been around. This is truly the worst update/change that I have ever seen. The UX is horrible and I am struggling to figure out equivalent functionality from the previous version. If Google’s goal was to drive users off their platform I think that they may have succeeded! For instance, am I no longer able to transfer funds directly without adding them to my Google balance first?? This is one of many frustrating changes which appear to be undocumented in a transition guide. Creating a false narrative that the product is “better” when it is actually “worse” from the user’s experience is unacceptable. Who else thinks that we should boycott this platform??!.Version: 118.0

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICEGoogle charged me for an instant transfer to an account that couldn’t accept GOOGLE PAY. I sent them bank confirmation direct from the bank that they cannot accept the Google platform transfers. I provided them with direct phone number which can be verified by Google. They confirmed everything and stated o them have to wait and additional ten days to receive the instant transfer back into Google Pay. They requested all of the documentation just to waste time is what the rep told me. They referred back to their terms but stated they have exceptions and I would fit the criteria but decided that instead I could refer back to the ten day rule. Poor customer service at best. Have been using app without issues for years but they have lost my business..Version: 141.0

Instant Transfer Processing for Ten Days and No HelpCan I please have my money?? I did an instant transfer ten days ago and the money still says “processing”. I filed an issue the first day and was told GooglePay experienced a technical error and my money would be transferred in 24 to 48 hours. Since then I have to beg for email updates and live chats with employees. The “updates” state that I will be updated again soon. When I ask what the technical issue is and how many more days or weeks my money will say processing, I’m told my issue was “escalated” the first day. I’m told my money will be transferred “soon”. Nobody will help me beyond promising updates that only include a promise for another update. There is NO problem on my part. It was an issue with GooglePay. GooglePay has refused to even hint at a timeline for allowing me to have MY money back. Is this really how GooglePay operates? They have technical errors they can not fix and refuse to communicate? GooglePay has my money and will not let me have it back. That is criminal..Version: 164.0

TERRIBLE UPDATEGoogle pay was the first and only money transfer app I’ve ever used and I LOVED it. It was a simple interface and a super quick and easy to send money to my mom (not very tech savvy) and friends when we’d spot each other money every now and then. The new update interface is really convoluted and confusing to use and all my contacts have to download a new app and add each other again (and jump through hoops to do it). After I sent my mom money to pay her bills, we were surprised with a brand new 1.5% debit transfer fee that SHE would have to pay to get her money instantly. Instead, we had to give google access to our bank accounts and wait 1-3 business days to get the money without the fee. Needless to say, we both are deleting the app. Google is a already billion dollar corporation that monopolizes a big chunk of the tech industry and hardly needs money to cover debit transfer fees. I hope Google reads these reviews of people saying the same things and will see what a big mistake they’ve made..Version: 118.0

Piece of garbage! The fact that we now have to pay a fee to transfer out immediately is ridiculous. The old google pay was absolutely amazing since it transferred right away without a fee. I’m so upset that we can no longer use the old app and are forced to use this new app that charges a fee. It’s also very confusing to find out how to navigate the app, and is very deceiving when transferring your money because it’s very easy to not notice that it will charge a fee unless you change the settings and see the little drop down option to wait 5 business days and not be charged a fee. First time using the app, I was charged a $27 fee for a transaction since it was super easy to not notice that there are other options (such as not being charged a fee). They make it confusing so you accidentally pay the fee instead of being easily directed to ALL OF THE OPTIONS. I now hate this app. I will be going back to using venmo instead of this crappy new google pay app. I wish I could give this a -5 stars. Do not use this app, there are other apps and payment methods that don’t charge a fee and transfer money faster than google pay..Version: 127.0

Easy Cash to Pure TrashThis new app is one of the most aggravating apps I have ever dealt with. Please believe the 1 star reviews, these people are all correct in what’s wrong with this app. From new transfer fees to the invasion of privacy to collect and sale your data for targeted marketing attacks. The most frustrating aspect is having to force your friends to download the app as well in order to even send them money. You can’t even put in a friend’s gmail account address without first forcing them to get the app. On top of that, I don’t know where they are pulling phone numbers for contacts because the number for my sister was wrong and didn’t even match my phone’s address book. The app refused to accept her new number as the correct point-of-contact so I could never send cash. I’ve never had an app change be so infuriating. I’ve been in IT for 20+ years and am fairly tech savvy and this app was so frustrating to figure out. They buried the purpose of this app for some stupid money-making gimmicks. I can’t recommend this app at all. Just awful!.Version: 118.0

THERE IS NOW A FEE FOR INSTANT TRANSFERS TO YOUR BANK ACCOUNTAre you kidding me? First off, the new interface is super convoluted to start. It took me a hot minute to figure out how to simply send money in the first place. Secondly, it is SO buggy. It has this “stutter” that I can’t explain, that makes it extremely annoying to use. I am running an iPhone 11 on iOS 14.3. Thirdly, and the worst part: Google Pay will now charge you a 1.5% fee for instant transfers to your bank account. This is where I draw the line. Google Pay was the best money-transfer app for so long, because I could send money to any of my family members who quickly needed it, and it would hit their bank account instantly. Or my roommate could send me his half of rent/utilities and I could pay it all outright, right then & there, because it would hit my bank account instantly. Simple. It was what set it apart from Venmo, Cash App, etc. And now it’s just the same as any other, but with an awful interface. No thanks..Version: 118.0

Very disappointedKnowing there are many who do not use Apple, I wanted to use GooglePay to pay for goods or services to parties who do no have Apple accounts. I tried Google Pay app (GP) today and was very disappointed. I just deleted it. I found It to be too cumbersome, very intrusive and, if I were to not pay attention to what I allow the app to do, I could opened the doors to the google world into my finances. I had no desire to deposit cash in the GP account, but I was not able to easily find the way to add my credit and debit cards as my payment vehicle. I Google-searched for that, but it was not possible to follow instructions I received using the curren GP app version. The app wants access to my contacts list to allow me to easily send money to my friends and family; no, I do not want Google to have that information. Of course, It is very easy to link bank accounts to GP, and Google could tell me how good/bad I’m doing in managing my finances. This app also offers me information on getting rewards, or controlling my expenses, or providing information on other vendors, etc. etc. etc… Thanks Google Pay but, NO, thanks..Version: 148.0

Fire whoever came up with this garbage..This is a dead app at this point. Look at the reviews. Nobody is using this app anymore. Zelle is better than this. The old google pay was better for users. Simplicity was better. Old app was simple, straight to the point. Whoever made this app wanted to frustrate customers. Garbage app with too much noise, difficult to use, frustrating experience. I mean I’ve used the old app for years and was happy, but with this one it just makes me mad to use because everything you try to do requires a million clicks. Fire whoever approved making this app! Make it simple like the old app, why complicate the experience? That’s DUMB!! Trash! Why even use this app if it’s no longer free to send instant? And sending free means it’s pointless, you might as well transfer using your bank to bank, this is slower than that. Google dropped the ball with this app. WORST APP EVER!!.Version: 151.0

Why do this?I used the old app to send money to my dad every month, to help him out with bills. The old app was super easy to use and the money was deposited instantly into his bank account, without him having to do anything. This was ideal, as he is older and not tech savvy. Now, we will have to find an alternative, as the new app is way too busy-looking and confusing to use. Instead of the money going into his bank account, it will sit within Google Pay until he goes in and figures out how to transfer it - for a fee or after waiting several days. Why do this?? People just want a fast way to send money directly and not jump through hoops to get it done. This app no longer does that and I no longer have a reason to use it. It seems many others feel this way as well. Anything to try to make a buck, right?.Version: 117.1

The worst business decision Google could have madeThe new app is hard to navigate. There is no easy way to send or receive money, which is the entire point of the app. The app over reaches with its data collection. You will have to disclose your contacts, other app data (if you can bring up the gpay in your keyboard options it’s using data from that app for “performance data”) I’m telling you, it’s a useless app now. But you’ll see what I mean when you download it. Buggy, and the only decent use for it is to see your past transactions from the old app and daydream about how user friendly it was. Also if you are a teacher/professor you cannot and should not use this app. It will sync all of your students information (imagine combining your personal and work emails/phone number) with your own. Good luck google, your pushing this customer away from your services..Version: 127.0
