IKEA Home smart 1 for Negative User Reviews

No smart plug support unless you buy something else?!I bought the gateway and some smart plugs back in late-2018 on the promise that HomeKit support wasn't far away. Well, 8 months on and still no support UNLESS you own one of their remote controls or wireless dimmer things. This was not mentioned on the website when I bought these plugs, and it is now, but it's in the "Good to know" section rather than in the "This is important, you should read this" bit... As it is, all I can do is add the gateway to my Home, and it'll sit there and do nothing because the app doesn't let me add their smart plugs. Complete waste of money so far. Terrible. Thanks for the response, IKEA, but you haven't explained why I NEED to buy a dimmer switch or some light bulbs before I can add one of your smart plugs? WHY?! This is not beyond the abilities of man. Your app should be able to add smart plugs, and your gateway should be able to search for new smart plugs that are plugged in and not connected. Why can't your app do that? Since I bought these more than six months ago you won't give me a refund, so now I HAVE to buy another thing to make use of them. Perhaps you shouldn't market your products incorrectly?.Version: 1.9.1

Requires improvementSo I brought the TRÅDFRI lights due to the cost of Philips Hue (which I already had). I purchased a bulb and the gateway but I didn’t need a dimmer due to having a spare hue one. Pairing was painful, it kept adding my hue lights instead and then the lack of out of home control frustrates me because it’s one of my favourite features in Hue and I’d like to see it implemented .I eventually deleted the bulb and added it to my hue bridge which was better, other than the loss of HomeKit support for the TRÅDFRI bulb. If pairing was easier and out of home access was implemented with the same approach as Hue did , then I would give TRÅDFRI a second chance..Version: 1.5.1

Remote and appRemote control is always ‘updating’ but fails. Cannot use the app.Version: 1.11.7

“Geographic restriction” with AlexaThis used to work fine with Alexa but after a reset it claims there’s a geographic restriction on the connection. Seriously, why is there a geographic restriction on light bulbs. Avoid this and buy bulbs that are not so restricted..Version: 1.22.1

Constantly looses HomeKit connectionThe whole setup worked fine for a few months but since late December the bulbs show up as “no response” in the HomeKit app. The remote control works fine and the gateway shows as connected. Not sure what to do now as I have had to reboot the gateway at least twice a day to be able to use HomeKit. So far the previous reviews were accurate and I should spent a bit more on Philips Hue instead..Version: 1.8.0

FrustratingConstant connection issues. Worked great until recent update. No longer connects or recognizes Alexa which is beyond frustrating since I now have 15 bulbs that no longer work..Version: 1.12.1

Piece sh t softwareTrying to set it up for 10 months now. No support, no clear instructions. “ All 3 lights are on and it’s still doesn’t connect? You’re sh t out of luck”.Version: 1.11.9

Hardly ever worksBought this for integration with HomeKit. Honestly, don’t bother! The app is clunky, the sensor barely works and the shortcut switches work about 3% of the time. Sending it all back! *Update* Against my better judgement, I decided to try to expand the system with a repeater thinking maybe I didn’t have enough coverage. Whilst the sensor seems to work now, neither shortcut switch does. I also bought the Sonos remote. It worked for three hours and now just says “Oops. That didn’t work”. Support is non-existent: I gave up waiting on the phone after no answer after 30 mins. Tried chatting online and they have no idea about these products. Completely and utterly hopeless and an absolute waste of my time. I sincerely hope people read this review before purchasing..Version: 1.17.2

Very frustratingThe app is, OK, there’s a lot of aspects to it that just aren’t really well thought out, a lot of “oops, let’s shim that in” instead of customizing the interface to the specific device. The system as a whole is unbelievably frustrating, can rarely sync / pair stuff correctly in one go..Version: 1.22.2

More eventsI wish that I could program more than one event per day..Version: 1.18.1

Stop giving blanket responsesIt’s disrespectful to your users. You clearly have issues with your app, and you’re not addressing any of them here, or anywhere. Please respond as human beings. It keeps loosing contact with HomeKit. The only way to reconnect is to reset the whole system and re-pair every unit one by one, twice. Once for TRÅDFRI and once for HomeKit. With 20 units it’s not fun the twentieth time around. If power fails, get ready to reset and start reconnecting, naming lamps and making groups. As a stand-alone app, it’s just not usable as a system with more than one room. Is there any plans on making anything close to HomeKit features natively? Like an on/off switch for leaving the house? Or scenes for all rooms at once? There is new hardware coming out, but no innovation with the app since it was released. What the heck is going on over there? Has IKEA left the software to bare minimum maintenance? Are there any plans at all?.Version: 1.5.2

Suggestion to make it betterHi I would make the system be able to work even if the network is down. This mean a little memory to store the last configuration. Tk, Js.Version: 1.16.2

Stopped working with latest updateI had the app working perfectly with my Fyrtur blinds for several months. It was linked to Alexa as well. After the last update of this app my Alexa routine stopped working that closed my blinds at sunset. The blinds disappeared from Alexa completely. They still show in the Home Smart app but are unresponsive. I have reinstalled the app and can not get it to work at all. When trying to resync with Alexa it just goes to an endless loop and never connects. Luckily the remote still works so I can control the blinds that way. Please fix this or I have wasted over $500 on this system. I pressed the “ask for help” button and called the 800 number and got a general help line and the poor girl had no idea what I was talking about. You need a dedicated number for IT problems. Recap: App does not control blinds (but they show up) Alexa will not connect at all and previous connection disappeared. No way to call for actual help. Wasted $500+ on this setup..Version: 1.11.3

Okay, but future is dimThe app has been okay. Always clunky, a little hard to navigate for advanced settings, but basics were accessible and it was all excusable for the price of their hardware. But part of investing in a smart home ecosystem, whether IKEA or Phillips, or anyone else, is that you expect that as they add new hardware, you can pair it with your existing setup and manage it all under one app. Unfortunately IKEA decided to start from scratch and release a new app with their new smart hub, and didn’t include support for their old hardware. This makes it harder to have trust in the longevity of one’s investment into IKEAs smart home ecosystem if they sunset support for their old hardware immediately upon release of their new hardware..Version: 1.20.1

Save your moneyMany connection issues. Frustrating to set up. You get what you pay for I suppose..Version: 1.11.7

Room for improvementThese lights are clearly marketed as a more affordable alternative to Phillips Hue. I’ve tried both and Hue has shortcomings of its own, not least of which is the lack of cooler tones and fewer lumens. I’m also ambivalent about both apps. I think Hue has some advantages but the widget and room schemes seem awkward. TRÅDFRI has this as well, but it feels incrementally better. The obvious areas for improvement for TRÅDFRI are HomeKit compatibility and more choices when selecting color temperatures. Once those features are added in, this will be a formidable product. I assume that since ikea is not a tech company first, they are not developing their tech products as quickly. It would be refreshing if their team was more receptive and proactive about putting these changes into action..Version: 1.1.3

Light connects to switchSwitch controls light but doesn’t appear in the app..... Useless.Version: 1.11.1

FEEDBACKThe app interface is outdated. If you have 10 devices that you want to control with this app you will need to scroll. Only devices fit per screen. Please this is just bad interface design. Creating a schedule is not that smart. There is no way in an easy way to set multiple daily schedules for each device. For example I have a fan and I want it to turn on 10 times per day. You will need to create 10 independent schedules, and if you have other devices that you want to schedule well that becomes a nightmare. It’s much easier to do it on a manual timer, so there is nothing smart about it. If you have small flat with few devices you will be fine, but if you want to do more complex automations the look for other solutions..Version: 1.11.9

They forgot about this appCouldn’t connect to Gateway using iOS 16 for days. Suddenly started working after I used an iPad that had iOS 15 on. Then iOS 16 connected. Unplugged reset the router multiple times before returning to the iPad. This thing is trash for iOS 16..Version: 1.21.0

Everything Wiped… WTHI avoid using this app because it’s junk. I use the Home app from Apple to do all the work I need. Worked fine until today when Ikea decided to wipe every single device (42 of them) and made me start over all the way back to the hub. Who has 6 hours to reprogram everything from scratch???? Time to throw this entire line of garbage out..Version: 1.23.0

Completely stopped working.Worked great for a couple months with little issues. At some point, none of the bulbs were recognized on my phone (they still turn on manually but I can’t control them). Tried to reset my WiFi, no change. Decided to just disconnect and reconnect everything (gateway, remote, bulbs). Now nothing will connect/pair. Pressing the button for pairing on the remote does absolutely nothing. The gateway can’t be found by the app, despite everything being connected properly. I’ve already tried every hard reset option. I have no idea what to do at this point. Troubleshoot on the Ikea website is nonexistent. Every question concerning a problem is answered with setup instructions (e.g. Bulb not connecting? Connect using the remote!) I have never in my life been this frustrated with any piece of technology. It just does. not. work..Version: 1.5.0

Why do devices need to be added to switchesSeems like poor design to not to be able to simply add a light bulb. Hub would be much more useful if it could control other manufacturers bulbs etc. Disappointing..Version: 1.12.0

Lose settings, A lot of opportunitesStill not a reliable system Gateway will NOT connect. Makes the whole system useless. Need a Fix!!!!! Major concept flaw is that timer toggle between on/off.... and that the light settings is lost from time to time, unknown when/what trigger the setting to reset. Some pain to set it up.... very limited information what it does or does not do .... The app can adjust the brightness and temperature of the lights. You can set some timers and you can use the app to turn on or off any bulbs. Neither can set like a sleep timer (tap on the small bulb icon} Feels overall very basic and dated A major flaw is the toggle switch on the remote... while you set timer on individual bulb the remote will turn on the other bulbs and turn off the bulb that was on by timer. It should be that the toggle should be able to get all bulb to the same state aka all on or all off ( now you have unpower the bulbs to get them in sync) We need version 3 now A m.Version: 1.22.2

No settings iconI have installed the app exactly per instructions and it doesn’t show a settings icon. It doesn’t look like the preview screens..Version: 1.17.1

Timers inaccessibleApp has worked fine since I installed. Unfortunately now getting an error message when trying to access timers. Which means I’m now stuck with the timers set as the are with no way to change. Pressing the timer function and I get a message ‘oops your timers are still loading please try again in a few seconds’. I’ve disconnected the gateway, reinstalled and still getting the same. There’s also no app support to speak to. Very poor. Still getting the same error when I try to access the timers. HELP!!.Version: 1.11.7

Could be so much better, currently unusableWhen it works it is OK but a bit clunky and nowhere near as good as it needs to be. The timers work and then some don’t. The help is very poor. Currently the new latest version has a privacy policy screen, which on a smaller iPhone such as an 6S there is no way to view or scroll to tap the Agree button. Therefore the App is unusable! Had it been fully tested in the first place this basic UI bug would have been fixed..Version: 1.11.2

Stops working every weekHome smart not smart.Version: 1.18.1

Truly awfulOkay so updated on the below.. the issue is that when you add new devices the Zig Bee mesh network takes a bit of time to work out its connections between devices. When setting up or adding new devices turn them on and wait a while before configuring them and you won’t suffer the issues described below. “Don’t even think about buying Ikea “smart” blinds. They are an expensive rip off. They disconnect every time, constantly get stuck trying to update with “update pending” message. Support is non existent and that’s not hyperbole it literally isn’t because no one can or wants to help. You can try and reset everything but you just keep up with non functioning blinds. Waste of 500 pounds.”.Version: 1.11.1

Freezes on iPhone 6/iOS 12.5Yet another app that is forcing me to otherwise unnecessarily upgrade my trusty iPhone 6. Not great for environmental to unnecessarily have to upgrade an otherwise working mobile phone. Home Smart app freezes on opening after connecting to gateway leaving a blank blue screen. If deleting app and starting over again, it gets to the home screen then freezes. This only started happening after adding my first devices - I was able to setup my first new switch and socket before encountering problems. Apparent System Limitations It works if I borrow a more modern iPhone. I used this to create some basic scenes and timers. After first day with home gateway it seems that sunrise timer can not turn a device off? I want to turn off a socket controlled light when it starts getting light in the morning. Another limitation seems to be the motion sensor - it apparently will turn off a device when it stops detecting motion even if that device was previously turned on. I can see lots of room for improvement but these items seem to be some fairly basic limitations for common scenarios..Version: 1.16.0

You get what you pay forThe system seems to work ok most of the time. On occasion things go a bit squiffy but for the price that’s to be expected. I have similar issues with devices that are over 3 X the price of these. I have 2 bulbs and 4 power outlets, one remote and 2 on/off switches for 2 of the the outlets. The on/off switches will not update to the latest firmware. They just say “updating” and time-out after a couple of days. But they still work so it’s not a big issue. My big gripe is “why is there no HomeKit support for the outlets yet?” It’s been ages since release so it should be available by now. I’m using “HomeAssistant” to bridge the gap to give HomeKit support and it works flawlessly, so why can’t Ikea get it working natively? Other outlets have native support! So all in all, there not perfect, but so much cheaper than many others, you get what you pay for!!!!.Version: 1.9.0

Not so smart homeWhy does an app to remotely manage a smart home disable itself once you leave your home. This used to work just fine. What was the reason to break this functionality. I am removing all traddfri devices and replacing them with something that is not so stupid..Version: 1.24.1

Great lights - terrible appLove these lights and having them automated to turn on and off etc. Unfortunately every single time I open the app it tells me I must connect to the WiFi network to use it - every time I’m already on the WiFi and it fixes itself after about 10 seconds, so it’s annoying but still usable. The first 3 months I had the system it also spent its life needing to be hard reset on the control box (at least once a week) which involves finding a pin to press the button and then rescanning the codes etc to set up the app - this seems to have gone away so people are obviously working on improving the software, but in 6 months I’m surprised it’s not better than it is....Version: 1.5.1

UnreliableBad connection. Often disconnects..Version: 1.11.7

Very unreliableHomeKit integration doesn’t work for more than a few days without having to manually power cycle the Ikea hub - then it works for a few days until the Ikea devices go back to “no response” in HomeKit. They sometimes remain available via the Ikea app but not always. Occasionally power outlets disconnect from the hub and need to be physically paired again. It’s great when the devices work, but they often just don’t work. A step-change in firmware reliability is needed before I could recommend or purchase any more items. No issues with other manufacturers’ products and HomeKit..Version: 1.11.1

Terrible experienceEverything was fine in the beginning, but after few weeks I saw one bulb “no responding” however it controls fine via remote switch. And this issue growing and after about 6 months, only half of bulbs can be controlled via phone. Another big problem, you need remote switch for add bulbs to the app, that’s awfully. I completely disappointed about Ikea smart home solution and not recommend it to anyone. For now I looking for another Gateway for replacing this garbage..Version: 1.16.2

No language setting?Changed my phone and was reinstalling my apps when I was overseas. It got installed in Italian. Have not been able to change it to ever since. What a pathetic software design! If you can’t handle your pants, let a third party do that for you..Version: 1.24.1

Lots of issuesI’m not sure why the average rating for this app is so high. My experience, so far, has been sub par. I bought the IKEA smart blinds and used the app to connect with the gateway. I’ve had to completely remove the blinds twice now because they can’t be found or only one blind will be controlled through timers. Speaking of timers, the interface makes no sense for blinds. Why do I have to choose a time range for opening or closing instead of just a time? Also, I can’t connect the blinds to HomeKit. Maybe the functionality doesn’t yet exist? Pairing could also be a lot simpler if you ask me. So the app (for blinds at least) has potential but it’s not there yet..Version: 1.11.1

Constant app crashes spoil an otherwise excellent appConnecting the bridge and bulbs was easy, controls are straightforward and unambiguous, it’s great, with one major exception: the app constantly crashes. Sometimes immediately after opening, sometimes in the middle of adding devices, sometimes just after being open a short while (less than 20 seconds). I can’t fathom any pattern to what’s causing it to crash. The firmware on everything is rated as up to date, I’m running the latest version of iOS, and I’ve tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling. Nothing seems to resolve the issue. Shame, as it’s otherwise the most intuitive smart lighting system I’ve seen..Version: 1.11.1

1.3.0 and latest firmware 1.3.14 are unstableAfter the latest updates there have been multiple occasions when the app loses connection with the gateway. I was unable to add a second remote control steering device which I wanted in order to add bulbs to form a group upstairs. I felt I should perform a gateway reset which killed my whole HomeKit/Alexa integration. That still didn’t fix it. I had to factory reset offline and pair the remotes before the gateway updated again and then rebuild everything. After a wasted day, Alexa just about works again, for the moment, but not HomeKit. Overall very unsatisfactory..Version: 1.3.0

ResponseIn response to the one I recieved- What exactly is the issue? Like I stated, every time there is an update, something looses connection; bulbs, remotes, sensors, stops communicating with HomeKit... Sometimes a restart fixes it, sometimes I need to re-pair the device. Maybe take more time with the updates to be sure they won't break whats already working. "Hej! We are sorry to read this. Updates should give you the feeling of improvement, but we understand that e.g. necessary gateway restarts after an update, things can happen. With the recent update we have introduced a hot fix for ongoing connectivity problems between app and gateway. While this has brought some relief to users, we understand that there is still some way to go. Would you like to share what exactly is not working anymore? /IKEA Home smart".Version: 1.18.1

Unreliable garbageFor the past five years, I’ve wished and wished that tradfri would work as advertised. No more, I’m giving up and switching to Philips Hue. Good riddance, IKEA..Version: 1.19.1

Need colour shiftI’d like a button that could change the colour slowly from one to the other. And what about adding some more colours?.Version: 1.12.0

Horrible appSpend a fortune on the automatic blinds and the app makes them useless. Slow, laggy, disconnects daily, get stuck and pushes blinds past their breaking point flipping them inside out. Wanted it to wake up to sunlight. Bought the blinds and bridge and the blinds never open in the morning. Says can’t connect. Terrible. With the money Ikea makes, pay a dev team the right money to make a decent app..Version: 1.19.0

New update (June 30, 2021) messed up my home settingsThis new update has lost connect to two of my devices, and thinks that my IKEA multi colour light bulb is a different brand. This seems to happen every couple of updates. Ready to ditch it completely!.Version: 1.15.2

FrustratingReally frustrating the App keeps losing groups on a regular basis and you have to create a new one again and again. Also disappointing you can’t use the app remotely. Simple things but this app fails on both..Version: 1.24.1

Save your time and your moneyNon existent customer support, seriously. Even the IKEA people at the store agree that support is non existent. That’s a problem. Constantly have to reconnect your devices. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes only some devices work, the next day the devices that worked the day before don’t and the ones that didn’t work now work. And then sometimes the devices are grayed out and you have to reset the remote and the hub and reinstall everything. Extremely frustrating. If only zero starts was possible..Version: 1.15.1

Timers RegressionSetup can be a bit flaky but makes sense once you understand the IKEA way. However, sometime in October 2020 the timer function in this app stopped changing the color/temp for all of my bulbs. They still come on, brighten, and go off as expected on schedule but they’re now stuck on whatever the most recent manual change to cool white, warm white, or warm glow. Calling the Home Smart support line under the "Help” option within the app lead me to a polite conversation with someone who knew less about the products than I did. When she realized that she wouldn’t be able to help me she tried to transfer me to the nearest store location—also unfamiliar with the app or products. This is a technical issue that requires technical support, not outsourced customer service. Edit: Another update, another regression. Still unable to find actual tech support.Version: 1.24.1

Timers are buggyThe timer seems to have a one hour off problem. It goes off one hour early (maybe a daylight savings issue) also, it went off on Saturday when it wasn’t programmed to. Everything else is great, please fix timers!.Version: 1.11.2

Alright for price, room for improvementHad Wink System before. Changed to Ikea since I like Ikea and items are affordable. After using for 6 months: - major update/upgrade of app would be nice. - lights randomly turn on or off outside scheduled times. After manually correcting, schedule is picked up again. - when changing start time of lights turning on (due to change sunset times), time that is set to turn off lights automatically defaults to 1 hour later. Please fix that it remains as programmed. - include option to turn on/off lights based on sunset/sunrise time. Give option e.g. “30 min before sunset”. Wink did offer that option. In general: Wink app offers more options, runs more stable, works as programmed after power outage..Version: 1.11.1

Works but needs polishIt’s a bit clunky the UI need multi controls and more granular controls for scenes. Looking forward to more functions ie. easy to configure multi steering device control better google home integrations. Thanks..Version: 1.11.1

App or hardware is unstableTRÅDFRI is good value for money but I wish they’d fix the hardware/firmware or the app once and for all. I’ve had the system for over a year now and at least once a month I get the ‘TRÅDFRI not responding’ message in the Home app (or it cannot connect to the gateway in the TRÅDFRI app) requiring you to then remove the cover of the hub and disconnect the power and then reconnect the power and then it works. Maybe you get what you pay for with this system and the more expensive solutions from other companies offer better hardware/software but it would be good if Ikea could fix this especially as they expand into other areas of home automation..Version: 1.8.0

Horrible UXAbsolutely horrible user experience setting up blinds. You gotta select add new lights to add their blinds and other things. Come on IKEA, you guys make quality stuff, invest in the app and you’ll have a killer product. Plus side, once a blind has been setup, you don’t have to access the app any more :-).Version: 1.11.3

1.12.1 update screwed me overThe latest update 1.12.1 has made all my lights stop working. Everything worked perfectly for the last year, now nothing works and my lights won’t pair with the remote. Very unhappy. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both app and lights and nothing works. This is awful and I’m sitting in the dark..Version: 1.12.1

Works well after you get it workingOverall it works well once you get it working. It may take a few times to get the lamps to connect. Once connected they are rock stable. The various remote connect without any issues like one expects. The white driver modules that have two light settings works well with its dumb light switch puck. Now the big issue is the smart gray driver modules. I have three of them and can not get a single one to connect. I see that other people also have the same issues with the smart driver. I hope that get it resolved soon. Online support does not mention troubleshooting any driver issues..Version: 1.7.0

Unreliable and just terribleExtremely buggy to setup, you have to pair each driver about 15 times and start over if the app can’t find one driver through the gateway. One day it says it can find my under cabinet kitchen lighting drivers; another day they are unreachable. When they finally show up, dimming only affects two of my lights and the other is unresponsive. Remote is always “updating” and later failing. This is a terrible system so far and seem to be far from built in a solid way. I stuck a Lutron switch on the lights in my kitchen when I gave up, of course that switch work flawlessly with HomeKit and their app. Saying that... it would be nice to be able to dim my kitchen and get my moneys worth. Support is non existent, and noone picks up the phone at IKEA. I’m certainly not standing 3 hrs in line for the store to only be confronted with a clueless teenager who can’t help either. IKEA, it is time to get it together, the storm on social media is real (your customer really had enough now)..Version: 1.11.7

Forced to use an input deviseI purchased a bridge, a color light and a white light to see how good Ikea lights are... i can’t do nothing with those since the Ikea app request to pair at least one input device prior to control the light with the Ikea app. I don’t want input device, i use HomeKit for all my need..... bad bad bad..Version: 1.8.0

Wow, talk about terribleI didn’t know there could actually be software written this bad but this is horrible. First I haven’t been able to connect to my gateway for months. Tried resetting it without any luck. Next the interface is crap. The timer settings are stupid. You set one and it interferes with another. How about a simple linear timeline for each day and I can take blocks to select what I want the lights doing at each time. It’s dumb to set a wake up time but if I want the light to go back off as he sun comes up, oops that is an interference. Stupid. I’ve had this now since at least last August/ September and would happily return it all if I could. I was hoping they would be about 50 to 75% of the Philips but they are barely 1%. Absolutely worst automated lighting solution on the market. Cheap Chinese crap software is actually written far better than this..Version: 1.3.1

It’d be so much better if the ap wasn’t so buggyI am constantly being told that I’m not connected to wifi and can’t connect to the gateway, which is rubbish. I end up turning on and off the lights using the Apple home app instead, but you really can’t get as much control over the brightness or colour of the lights with the home app so it’s annoying to say the least. I do love that I can remotely control the lights, I just wish the application was more stable and had more functionality. Could be great, but it’s just okay..Version: 1.11.5

Can be tricky to setupBrilliant once écrit-il is up and running, with order light ambiances and control by light bulb. But fish what a pain it was to sync the bulb, switch and hub. Had to try and reset probably 10 times..Version: 1.11.1

Poor as a wake-up lampMy experience of Tårdfri so far has been frustrating at best. Setting up the dimming device was unintuitive and buggy (taking the device apart to find the activation button, flat battery, unresponsiveness once setup). The app isn’t terrible, however, the reason I bought the system was for the wake-up feature, which didn’t match the described ‘slow brightening’ is envisaged. There’s nothing subtle here. It just switches on at a lower brightness, which wakes me as fast as an alarm clock. My guess is that the LED bulbs can only fade so low, then they switch off. Until this feature works better, avoid for use as an alternative to a good wake-up lamp..Version: 1.1.3

Needs workI have to give one star because the app keeps crashing, takes forever for the app to start up, crashes, and forgets my gateway often. The app has a nice layout, but I suggest that a dimming/brightness slider with the three “mood” circle buttons right next to it for that specific bulb. From the current layout, I see how you want to separate the different groups of lights, but with 3 groups, you then have to scroll around to find a certain light. Use tabs, or the horizontal page switching things that are common in iOS apps, for easy switching between rooms or groups. Also, please add a widget for iOS so that I can turn off/on a light from the notification screen with a button..Version: 1.1.3

Excellent products, average appThe app occasionally loses connection with the gateway, causing problems with HomeKit in my experience. Still waiting on HomeKit compatibility for the outlets which we’ve been assured is not far away for months... a feature I’d like to see is the ability to connect to multiple gateways in multiple homes within the same app, rather than having to delete and reinstall the app each time I need to do some admin for the relevant home. Overall 4.5/5 for the products, excellent price point, but the app needs some stability improvements. Thanks, keep up the good work and new developments.Version: 1.9.0

Not a bad start ... but still issuesThe app has a nice layout and is pretty usable. Combined with the good prices for the hardware it is amazing. It’s just not perfect yet. App crashes. The hub needs an Ethernet connection (cable!) and the pairing requires to be a few cm of the bulbs. Some lights can’t be discovered every now and then (they work with the remote but not the app). My Symfonisk remote is still useless as it does not find any of my speakers (they are fine in the Sonos app but not in the Smart Home App). So still lots of issues ... but I can see this getting better over time..Version: 1.11.0

Trafaldi gateway crashes every 14 daysI have to reset the gateway every 2 weeks to get it to work. 1 month on since the dev team responded to my original complaint and I’m still experiencing the same issues with having to reset the gateway every 2 or so weeks. The app is up to date..Version: 1.17.2

Doesn't work, literally at all-RUN!!!!!!!!I've been trying for two days and I can't get a single thing connected to the hub. I've followed all of the instructions, reset each component multiple times and nothing works. You can’t even get into the app to check on the gateway firmware until you’ve connected a remote... which may be impossible until a firmware update has completed. Day three, got a dimmer connected and it managed to update the dimmer overnight. Before AND now after, still unable to pair a light to said remote. Unable to get both a remote and a dimmer connected to the gateway at the same time..Version: 1.3.0

App thinks nothing is set upStuck in a mode where I get asked what I want to add even though I’ve already added 2 blinds. Can’t get past it to actually control the blinds. Deleted the app and reinstalled and it’s still doing the same thing. Kind of ridiculous. UPDATE Finally the app was able to remember that we had set up blinds with it but sadly, we had already reset the blinds and got them working on my wife’s phone. Now we’re trying to pair new blinds and the remote will not pair to the app. We looked on the Ikea website and found NO SUPPORT PAGE FOR THE BLINDS. This is ridiculous. We see a page for the Gateway, the light bulbs, the lamp/speakers, the speakers and THAT’S IT. What is wrong with you guys? The software is buggy and you guys don’t even have a support/troubleshooting page?!?.Version: 1.11.5

Fantastic at what it supports, which sadly is very little.Over six months now since I purchased the scene button that does not work as the app still does not support it..Version: 1.11.7

Could be betterYes, setting up the app for your smart devices is a bit of a pain. The app is fairly simple, almost too simple, to use. It’s a little misleading to have my remote controls for my blinds, as well as the repeater, to show up in devices. Since they are listed, it would be nice if their firmware would eventually support Thread. I would rate the app higher if it was cross platform friendly. I set up everything up on my iPhone. I went to use the app on my iPad, only to find that I have to set up my iPad independently. Why can’t I just log in to my account, like every other smart home product I have. Thankfully the blinds show up in my HomeKit app..Version: 1.13.0

Can't connect to Gateway since latest updateMy app won't connect to the gateway since the most recent update - is this a known issue? I have an older system and bridge but it worked perfectly until now..Version: 1.12.0

Always crashingUnfortunately this App crashes on -50% of opening. Great product let down by App..Version: 1.11.7

Timers are dreadful to setThe app has a bug with scheduling. The number dials do not stop on the time you which to select. The hour dial keeps rotating to other numbers other than the time I want. Every change to hours, minutes and AM/PM causes the hour dial to rotate spontaneously. When I eventually manage to select the time I want and save the setting, the lights actually turn on and go off 1 hour before the time I’ve selected. I set the lights to turn in at 5.30pm, they actually came on at 4.30pm. Initially I thought the timers were working at all and I was about to return all the TRÅDFRI products, however I read a previous review experiencing the same troubles. Please can this issue be fixed..Version: 1.9.1

JWow.Version: 1.11.8

App refuses to recognize second blindsI bought 2 blinds and it only seems to be BARELY successful at syncing 1. The second one refuses to get recognized by the app sometimes the repeater doesn’t get recognized, the blinds always pair perfectly to the physical remote that never is an issue. I’ve tried resetting the gateway, resetting the remotes, resetting the repeaters. Resetting literally every single piece and running through the setup over and over again NEVER actually seeing it pair completely a single time. I spent 500 dollars on this cus it’s the cheapest way to make blinds work with Siri HomeKit but this ikea app is garbage please fix it i don’t want to have to return these blinds. Really disappointed with this whine experience..Version: 1.11.5

Works, most of the timeCheaper than most smart lights, but suffers from reliability problems. Have to re-start the controllers every month or so. Cannot rely on it..Version: 1.16.0

Not working with Apple homeNow the device isn’t seeing my bulbs at all. Tried removing and it won’t add back. This is terrible. What is happening? Updates should not break functionality. I bought the ikea product because it advertises compatibility with Apple home. Recent update broke all connectivity, making automation useless. Still can use the ikea app but it doesn’t have the functionality I want.Version: 1.11.2

Update update update updateI know things have to be updated, but almost every time I open this app there’s an update. It also nags you all the time. I just need an app to control my lights! Can I turn off the update alert? The last update changed the app icon from yellow to white! Is this to increase obscurity? So people who have used the app for years cannot find it anymore? I guess that’s one way to not see an update alert.Version: 1.20.1

Barely worksLights work for a day or so until they need to be re set up again..Version: 1.19.1

Adequate Quality hardware and Adequate Quality App.The hardware is a bit fiddly to set up; holding buttons for the exact number of milliseconds within the exact range of the device. The software is adequate for setting up the ecosystem of devices. Once set up and configured with HomeKit; Wow! HomeKit integration elevates the product from a mediocre budget IoT ecosystem to a premium product. Responsiveness in the iOS Home.app is much faster and the UX is improved tenfold..Version: 1.11.1

Please add user profilesI don’t know about other smart product brands if they offer it. But having “admin” and “unprivileged” profiles fixes the issue in shared households where users can only control their designated devices. This stops a user from accidentally controlling devices of other users(personal space). Of course there should “public” devices as well like living area lights/speakers..Version: 1.14.1

Great setup, but super unreliable with HomeKitSetup is super easy, and the app is really intuitive. Not a big fan of having to pair through the control device, but that’s not the end of the world. The big issue is reliability. The bridge is on solid Ethernet, sitting 20 cm from my Smart Outlets, and they disconnect every single day, without fail. All three lights are on, everything should be fine, but “No Response” from the Home App. All firmware and iDevices are up to date, but the only solution is to constantly turn it off and on again. The home smart app also doesn’t allow multiple devices to connect to the bridge, which is inconvenient if you’re like me and jump between iPhone and iPad. The devices are super affordable, and I want this to work so much, but the reliability issues makes me feel like the more expensive products are the only solution for a good smart home.Version: 1.11.8

Come on IKEA, you can do betterGateway should support cross subnet communication and should be running PoE, it feels like the dark ages having to use a power cable and Ethernet. Pairing should be easier - you need a doctorate in aeronautical engineering to pair this thing 🤬🤬🤬.Version: 1.11.1

Works if you’re not in a hurryProviding you aren’t in a hurry, she’s all good. If you need to just turn lights on or off quickly, you’ll likely get frustrated with the lovely orange “unable to connect” error. You’ll get very familiar with it. And now that I’ve updated to the latest version of iPhone app, the app just freezes and shuts down anyway. No lights for you..Version: 1.11.2

Terrible terrible awful. Why does the sound remote control the volume for all speakers in the group. Even the volume button on an individual Sonos speaker doesn’t do that. I expected that a sound remote paired to a speaker would control only that speaker. - instead it controls any that that speaker is connect to. Which is pretty pointless. Everyday it stops working - the gateway isn’t accessible in the app so I have to turn the gateway off and back on again. My blind doesn’t work either - and every day the gateway states that it can’t find my Sonos speakers and my sound remote isn’t paired to a device. Pretty pointless. And no support either. I tried calling ikea and they weren’t able to help..Version: 1.11.1

Buggy - IncompleteIt’s almost mind boggling the issues that both the app/software and hardware seems to have for IKEA based devices. I can’t even express the odd navigation behavior when killing the app and restarting it and immediately receiving a new device onboarding flow for setting up the blinds. Not being notified of updates while things are being linked and setup only to have things stall. This was a poor experience and poorly designed UX. The app is buggy and seems to have many state issues, and the hardware seems week in quality/signal/communication. Software should have been able to solve common IKEA issues, but it would seem their instructions made it into their app UX..Version: 1.11.3

Great price ... but not reliable with AppleEvery time Apple/IKEA has an update over half the devices/rooms stop working requiring you to re-add everything (not great when you have to use a ladder!!!). Have over 50 devices, but I guess for the price I can’t fault it. My Phillips hue was £150 for 3bulbs and has never ‘disappeared’. Plus replacing batteries in the remotes seems to cause all hell to break loose... still great product though. Wish you could have more control devices to a room. Much of it is probably Apple keep changing apis like they do with Bluetooth as they run a monopoly in some respects..Version: 1.15.0

Recent updates ruined the product“Rise and Shine” turns the lamp on, but doesn’t change the colour of the light. Choosing a scene in the app doesn’t activate the one I chose, but instead activates some other random scene. At this point, I’m considering switching to Philips Hue because I can’t trust IKEA to release a functional app..Version: 1.13.0

Significant connectivity issuesHave had the system for little less than a year, and I have to say does anyone internal actually work on improving g the software? I would say roughly 90% of the time I’ve owned it the gateway loses connection to the light sources and I have to do a manual reset on the back of the gateway. Very recently, the app has been updated such that it forces you to connect to a remote control. However, my remote control battery died and upon replacing the app STILL CANNOT find the remote somehow. Performing a reset of the remote control as instructed by the app yielded absolutely nothing. Guys, just pay some one to fix the software. The product is totally useless until you fix these mounting issues..Version: 1.7.0

Stop tinkering - start fixingI’ve been using the Tradrfri system in my home for over a year now. Almost every week something stops working and I find myself configuring some lights or switches. Home Smart is potentially a good app. It’s intuitive and easy to use but with every bug the developers fix, they seem to create another elsewhere. So, it never just works. There is always something that doesn’t. Maybe it’s time to fix the development team, sort out the rotten apples and hire capable programmers to get this right..Version: 1.12.0

Setting up timers is very buggyMost features of this app have worked well except for setting up timers. When I use the feature to set a light to come on at 5pm, the wheel keeps scrolling backwards or forwards so I’m unable to select the desired time for the light to turn on and off. It takes quite a lot of fiddling around to try and get the desired timings set. When I eventually set the timer for the two lights to come on at 5pm, they turned on at 4pm instead. The main reason we bought the smart light system was for the timers. Please come up with a fix for this bug. It’s extremely frustrating and could make the difference between a substandard product that could be great - all because the app has failed to deliver..Version: 1.9.1

Have to reset everything after no powerI’ve lost power in my unit for a few hours and now the entire home smart network is not reachable. :/ I started resetting the bulbs and all, but they won’t reconnect, even after I removed them and tried to add back. Why do I have to go through this? Why wouldn’t you think of your consumers first and create a nice user experience with your products? I’ve lost so much time and no luck still. Will be returning what I can return at this point. What a waste of my time :/.Version: 1.12.1

Basically functional, but should be betterI can set basic schedules and control my lights — as long as I’m on the same WiFi Network. It’s a little irksome how unreliable it is with 3rd party integrations like Alexa (mine just stopped working a week ago and none of the support solutions have worked yet). It would be really nice if remote support was built in to the app (even Kasa does this relatively well for their components), but as of now we’re at the mercy of half-baked integrations you just can’t rely on. Which is a shame, because I like IKEA, and I really wanted this to work much better than it does right now..Version: 1.2.0

Timers are brokenTime pickers in timers are broken. You move the minute and the hour changes! Trying to set the time with broken UI like this is like solving a Rubik’s cube. This timers now are useless. I guess you get what you paid for (half the price of Philips Hue).Version: 1.12.0

Wasn’t able to connect tradfri light to iPadGah.Version: 1.11.7

Cheap does not equal goodWhen nothing changes in your setup, these cheap ‘smart’ lights work. But heavens forbid you have a power cut, the battery in your dimmer dies or some other normal life event - these things breakdown completely. The app is also a mess - grouping items together where it makes no sense, clunky controls needing you to fo to different pages for different things. Just keep it simple IKEA, no one uses this app to control their setup - Apple/Amazon/Google know how to provide a UX, you don’t..Version: 1.23.0

Not great at the momentEverything was going great up until the most recent app update and then it went down hill. Now I can’t use the colours and am just left with two shades of white and cream, and my app constantly says that I need to update it to use the new colours but then says I am all up to date, and there is in fact no new update, now I’m stuck with colour bulbs that have no colours, so at the moment I’m not too pleased with the functionality of the app..Version: 1.17.2

Lights work better now but blinds still unreliableI am pleased to report that many problems with lights have been fixed. Thanks for that! However, there are still some serious bugs with Fyrtur blinds. For instance, when one of my blinds plays up (every few months) and I have to remove and reinstall it (several times, takes about 3 hours) the blind shows up ok in HomeSmart1 Settings and in Updates but then that info is not recognised on the IKEA MyHome page. The blind doesn’t pair with my remote either. Therefore, it cannot be operated at all. I guess the hardware gets worn out but eventually the buttons tend to respond. It is no reason for the software not to operate properly. Please can you look into it? Sadly, neither customer support nor the IKEA shop can deal with such software problems..Version: 1.24.0

Shameful setup hasslesGreat IKEA smartblinds, but awful software! It took several days to get the hub to communicate with my router and my 3 ikea blinds linked to the hub. Followed the confusing directions to the T many times over and still success was hit and miss with SmartHome. After weeks of trying, I am still unangezogne get voice commands working on Google Nest and Alexa device. With Siri, commands to open and close blinds are occasionally ignored or performed erratically. IKEA must do better with their software and customers should hold off buying the blinds until the many bugs have been ironed out, else you my find yourself tearing your hair out. The only positive comment Ican offer is that the price of the blinds was reasonable..Version: 1.11.6

ChrisWhy does this have to be so tedious? It’s annoying. Simplify the instructions.Version: 1.16.0

Very clunkyThe Tradfri system has great potential but at the moment it is an unpolished mess. Adding blinds to it is a complete nightmare of a days job. And why can’t blinds be individually assigned separate remotes in the same room? Instructions are sparse as hell and why no upper limit on the blinds. Phillips Hue - learn from them! The Homekit integration makes Tradfri workable. Google integration not so much. I would say that just about all the issues are down to poor software implementation by out of touch people who need to get in touch with real users of this eco system..Version: 1.14.1

The app works pretty goodI’d you have a link to show me just take me to the website don’t ask me to install yet another app on my phone. I don’t need the ikea store app to read an article..Version: 1.17.1

No response in HomeKit happens randomly for no reasonThe tradfri concept is nice but the actual devices are very flaky. All my other lights haven’t failed once (from Sylvania) and my smart dimmer hasn’t failed once either from but the Ikea bulbs go MIA every now and then as a group for no reason. I then have to reset them individually. Add them back to the app using the irksome process with the remote until the next time. It’s very frustrating.Version: 1.11.7

Lost all the settingsI have had many bulbs blinds and speakers running for about 6 months and generally they work well but are sometimes a pain to set up in the first place as is well documented. The app has improved a bit during the year. Suddenly last week the timers stopped working and the app wouldn’t connect. When it re-connected it had returned to factory settings and lost all the pairings, rooms, timers. Presumably an update killed it. No power issues as hub and router both connected to a UPS. Thankfully the switches still work as they seem to connect directly to the devices. But to re-connect to the gateway i will now have to link everything up again one by one which is extremely annoying and i may not have time. I will look into smartthings and phillips hue hubs to replace the gateway but not sure if devices can still be updated. There should be a way of backing up the settings which are stored on the hub..Version: 1.11.3

Buggy time picker makes alarms uselessThe time picker used to select the time for light and dark timers simpler does not work. Two things go wrong: 1. You select the hour (eg. 8), and it then clicks over to 9 automatically 2. When you set the timer to start at 6am, it actually starts at 5am..Version: 1.12.1

Issues with new update onlyFirst - the Tradfri system is excellent - I have 35 bulbs and devices across the house and it’s great technology. The latest update for the app however - the transition between the new ‘scenes’ is very short and abrupt - it’s does not fade gently like it used to. Result is not so impressive - and makes my family jump! I also think it was easier having ‘moods’ for each room rather than ‘scenes’ for my entire house. I had many ‘moods’ set up for each room. Now to change lighting in the kitchen, I have to find that ‘scene’ from a long list of every setting in the house - rather than just selecting the mood from the kitchen settings..Version: 1.12.0

Version 1.15 broke Speakers connectivityTwo iPhone devices with IKEA Smart Home app. One iPhone says Cannot Connect to Speakers after updating the app to 1.15. The other works fine, still on previous version. Then it gets the prompt to update and now it says Cannot Connect to Speakers too..Version: 1.15.0

Designing an app isn’t Ikea’s Forte. Garbage!Ikea might make great furniture but they’ve a lot to learn regarding app design. This one is atrocious! Not intuitive, not user friendly and actually doesn’t work much of the time. Moving through it and trying to add fixtures (especially blinds) is like doing a maze blind folded whilst being spun in a vortex! What’s worse it tech support are clueless too! They’ve clearly undertaken ZERO UAT. THANK GOD they use SONOS app for their speakers. Unless you don’t value your sanity, don’t bother with it..Version: 1.19.2

Major QA issues. Major Instability like few apps I have used.Blinds and remote will not stay synced. They work when they feel like it. The app constantly loses connectivity and you have to constantly tell it that the blinds are there and in which group they belong. Sometimes it will stay for minutes other times for a few hours max, eventually when you go to open / close your blinds the app says oops nothing in that group and you have to start the process all over again. This is a daily occurrence. Also the hub doesn’t work on WiFi for internet. Only to communicate with the ikea devices. Very 1990s so get ready to move your router along with the hub or grab a long Ethernet cable..Version: 1.18.2

Bulb turning on randomlyI have 3 bulbs and a remote. I travel frequently so I’ve enjoyed having bulbs throughout my home on various timers for well over a year now without issue. Lately one bulb has been turning itself on at random times. I turn it off with the remote or app and it turns back on a short while later. I’ve completely deleted the on off schedule for that specific bulb and it continues to turn itself on. I am not having any issues with the other bulbs and timer schedules in my home..Version: 1.11.0

Issues with “Scenes”Hi- I have tried to get support via your tech support but they are clueless on how to get help with your app. So I am writing here in hopes to get some help. I have some scenes setup to play music on sonos speakers. I have discovered a bug. My first question is there a max number of speakers a Sean can support? One of my scenes will work for one day and then it won’t. If I delete and then setup again it works. I have tried different music stations to see if that is it but that’s not it. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the shortcut button but my long press scene will not work after one day of being setup. I can go in the sonos app and it’s pairing the correct speakers together and adding the correct music but it won’t play. Can someone help me look into this?.Version: 1.18.2

Probably the worst smart home system in the market.Ikea bulbs are cheap thats the only reason I bought them. Their motion sensor won’t show in HomeKit and most of the time they don’t work if you use them in night mode. I’m switching to aqara the moment they are available in Canada..Version: 1.11.4

Continuous problemsSuper flaky. I’ve had to setup the gateway 3 times in past 4 months..Version: 1.11.3

Can’t control light away from homeWhat is the point of wifi gateway if can’t control the light away from home via internet?.Version: 1.5.3

Blind people are customers too so why can’t IKEA make this app accessible for them? All this company needs to do is follow Apple‘s guidelines when building a app and use their native tools instead of some clunky third-party shortcut to building an app with a non-Apple framework. The result of this app spore development is that high as a blind user can’t adjust my blinds can’t easily add them or see their status. Buttons are on labeled so I have no idea what buttons do and content overlays other content so as I move around the screen I’m hearing options that aren’t even visible on the screen because they’ve been hidden but the screen reader has not been told they been hidden.Version: 1.18.1

Rarely ever worksBought over a year ago, always needs to be updated and seldom functions properly..Version: 1.18.2

IKEA should exit smart devices businessHaving had FYRTUR blinds for a couple years working just fine, the recent-ish firmware update made them problematic to use and requiring intervention every week. The problem: the blinds never go up all the way as they used to. So when they come down every night, they come down a little longer day by day and eventually sit on the window sill. Then they start warping and bunching up. This necessitates battery removal and reboot of each blind. It’s not been an issue but now IKEA broke it with no way to fix..Version: 1.24.1

Devices regularly lose connection to hubI’m a big fan of IKEA and what they are trying to do here… making a smart home affordable. I’ve been using Tradfri bulbs from soon after they were released. But 3 years later they are still plagued by frequent drop outs where the bulbs, plugs etc. become unresponsive. Friends are having similar issues. I contacted IKEA a few months ago, and their advice was to turn them off and on at the mains (my old lights worked like this - it completely defeats the purpose), but they do work again after doing this; at least for a while. The products themselves are good, the price is excellent, but the firmware has issues. With no fix in sight, I’m slowly swapping out my 30+ IKEA smart devices for other brands. I recommend you look elsewhere as well :-(.Version: 1.16.1

Love the product... hate the techLove the bulbs, they add great light to my space but I wish the colours were more diverse. I hate that I have to constantly reset it due to technical connection issues, I should have bought a different brand. Too many issues..Version: 1.11.6

Works but Very buggyIt is ridiculous homeSmart does not have Cloud Integration for remote access after several years on market or a means to provide port forwarding to be able to control Trådfri hub from app. Sonos integration is not polished and crashes a lot hence my only view is to use the Sonos app but the effort to create a Sonos integration is nice overall as it helps bring down the inflated price of Sonos. Would love a Connect device for existing stereo that did not cost $350 a pop. Lights since they are on Zigbee Light Standard are better to integrate with SmartThings/HomeAssistant or if lucky integrate with Hue app. HomeSmart needs a lot work from Ikeas software development team in my opinion to compete competitively with Hue. Also random issues with not able to connect to Hub from app although directly connected on same network. Many areas for improvement..Version: 1.11.1

Gateway doesn’t connectI’ve followed all the steps and yet Still whenever I get to the part where I scan the QR code on the back it will then say it can’t find my gateway. I’ve tried resetting and tweaking everything. It doesn’t work. Back to Ikea for a refund unfortunately..Version: 1.9.1

Very picky and strangeEverything makes these Ikea automation devices need resetting. If power. Network. Etc. goes off 6 times off and on and 4 presses on the back and ya put your left foot in and shake it all about. What if the hokee pokee is what it is all about???.Version: 1.24.0

Deteriorating reliability. Unusable.Over the past year or so the frequency of failures with this app has increased significantly, to the point where now I have to restart my gateway every other day and just and hope it connects to my devices. There have been no changes other than software updates so either the hardware isn’t built to last or software bugs have made it unusable. I woke this morning to find all my devices had disconnected overnight (a regular occurrence these days) and despite several restarts only a single device will reconnect. And this is after last week wiping all settings and reconfiguring everything from scratch. That’s an hour-long process I seem to have to do every month or so too. What’s worse; whatever causes the app to fail to recognise devices also knocks out all my remotes, so the only option is to use the hardware switches as if you have no smart devices at all. This is intensely frustrating since it all worked pretty flawlessly for well over a year. To be honest I’m approaching the point where I’ll just trash the lot and switch vendors, it’s borderline unusable at the moment..Version: 1.13.0

Scenes crashes my appEver since the latest upgrade, my app will not stay open. It will be visible until the Scenes load and then closes down. I’ve reset it, deleted the app, reinstalled the app, reset to factory settings. Same thing. Please create a functional app! I really like these products. They work great and are in a good price range. And I have a whole house of product. But I will switch to something else if you cannot create a reliable app. Come one! What are you thinking? Fix this please..Version: 1.13.0

Avoid at all costsHonestly, it’s not worth the literal hours of your life to try to get these to work. Even if you manage it, something as simple as a battery running out on a switch means the whole system goes haywire and you have to start all over again. I can believe a company as large as IKEA have been so lazy with their software QA testing, and to still be so unreliable after years is appalling. If I released something like this to my clients I’d be rightfully sacked. IKEA, so much of what you do is do great, but this is the worst home kit I’ve ever used..Version: 1.16.0

Never very stable, no longer working on iOS17I love the Ikea system and it usually works ok with Homekit. Been stable for a couple of years actually. But lately I started having issues again with some lights disappearing from Hoekit. But that seemed to resolve itself. But now, with iOS 17, my bridge simply stopped being available and I can no longer add lights at all to a remote. Related to iOS 17? Not sure, but getting support is not easy with Ikea, so I'm writing here as they seem to respond sometimes..Version: 1.24.1

Last update is unreliableUpdate Since my review a few days ago the system has now become unresponsive again. I have tried to restart and now the gateway will not connect to the web so this app is no longer of any use. Shame as I was all up for investment my further in Ikea smart products but will have to look elsewhere. Had Ikeas smart lighting for around 4 months and everything was great until the update 2 weeks ago. I have been running control through Apple Home Kit with no problems but in the last week I keep losing connection with a message of items are unresponsive. When I go onto the Ikea app it asks me to setup the gateway from scratch. A power cycle of the hub resolves the issue but this is not a satisfactory solution. Especially when not at home. Not sure what was changed in the last update but the system is worse for it!!!!!.Version: 1.11.1

Unable to pair gateway with remotesI'm having trouble setting up the Trådfri Gateway kit and the app is currently unusable for me. Everything worked for a couple days after my initial purchase and setup. However, sometime in the past few days the system became unresponsive and subsequent attempts to factory reset the gateway and reconfigure the network have not been successful. Specifically, when following the instructions to pair a remote with the gateway the app never displays the dialog that the new device has been found nor does the network LED on the gateway flash 4 times as described. The remotes and bulbs function as expected standalone, without using the gateway and app. Customer support and troubleshooting have been nearly non-existent. In-app (and App Store) support directs me to the general Ikea customer support page. The Trådfri support page FAQ does not describe this scenario and offers no resolution. Phone support did not have knowledge about this product and directed me to the retail store. The co-workers at the retail store were understanding but mentioned that the product is new and they don't have much experience with it and were unable to solve the issue and offered an exchange. I'm submitting this review in the hopes that *someone* with a technical background associated with the product and/or app can contact me to help troubleshoot..Version: 1.0.0

I used to love my smart IKEAWhen I first bought all my smart IKEA bulbs not long after they were released I loved them, so convenient to turn the lamp on and off without leaving the bed, however, the last few months they have been “not responding” with my iPhone or iPad at all, I’ve tried resetting the gateway, repairing ALL the flipping bulbs which took me all day and still they won’t work. Looking at the reviews I’m glad to see it’s not just me as I was afraid that they had just broken and I’d need to buy 8 completely new bulbs, but I’m going to hold off as I think this is possible an IKEA issue and not a user issue. Please fix IKEA :(.Version: 1.15.1

FrustratingIt’s very frustrating. Lights work for a while and then become unavailable and are ghosted out so they can’t be controlled by the app. It seems impossible to get them recognised by the system again..Version: 1.16.2

Update after Ikea responseAfter resetting the Tradfri to factory settings and starting over after calls with IKEA I finally got the app to work and connect with HomeKit. I had to reset tradfri twice and revert it to factory settings and reconnect 4 bulbs and remote both times. Frustrating experience and calls to ikea customer service were just telling me the same thing or to bring it back to ikea. ______________________ Latest update quit working with HomeKit. Tried resetting and won’t connect. After most recent update lights won’t even connect to Tradfri Ikea app at all. Do not buy and I do not recommend. Waste of money..Version: 1.5.3

TerribleMy review used to be 5 stars, until I moved. New house, everything worked but the bulbs were in different rooms. I removed he bulbs from the app, and wanted to pair them with a different steering wheel. I couldn’t pair them, and read about the light switch toggle 6 time trick to reset bulbs. Guess what? You can’t reset them. Look on the internet, tons of complaints. You can reset and pair the white bulbs, not the 3 tone bulbs. I took the bulbs back to ikea, and they did replace them. Hopefully they fix the issue before I move again. Don’t use these bulbs in a kids room where kids are likely to flick the light switch, this resetting the bulb and I can’t re-pair. Lame..Version: 1.9.0

It doesn’t really workThe device pairing seldom works. You have to try over and over again, often in uncomfortable positions as we are talking of lightbulbs. I was so happy when I purchased the full set: four light, three controllers and a motion detector. Plus the gateway, of course. Even if, after many attempts, you manage to connect your devices the app doesn’t see them, especially the lightbulbs two times out of three. The whole system has a lot of potential but lacks the finishing of other manufacturers. Such a pity considering that the very low price could have been disruptive..Version: 1.3.0

Solid StartThe app is very good at walking the user through the setup with the lights/remotes. The user defined moods are excellent ways to make your room look great! They are easy to set up and quick to use. However there is still work to be done with the timer features and improving grouping functionality. Widgets are not present which are quite important for a smart home app. Connecting to the hub when opening the app takes a few seconds, I expect it to be snappier. I also feel constricted by just 3 color temperatures, 5 would be very welcome. These are all things that I imagine IKEA is aware of, I am looking forward to the future versions of the app!!.Version: 1.0.0

Fine when it worksDriving me round the bend trying to reconnect a group of lights that I had to reset after they went out of colour sync. Finds some of the bulbs and then cannot pair with the next (six in total for one remote). Then it pairs without acknowledging it and the rest of the paired lights don’t respond. Going for take six this evening before I lose the will to live. When it works it is super good. But the set up is laborious and buggy to say the least..Version: 1.24.2

Finicky, and no out-of-home support? The Trådfri system is a bit odd in how it works - rather than have the bridge talk to the bulbs, it seems it talks to the physical remotes which then talk to the bulbs. It took several tries to get things set up but eventually it worked. However, as soon as I leave my house, I can no longer use the app at all, as for whatever reason, the app doesn’t offer any remote access to my bridge. Fortunately, the HomeKit connection does work, but I see no reason why ikea hasn’t implemented out-of-home access to the bridge, the way my other smart home wifi devices have..Version: 1.10.1

Bizarre experience! There’s no indication how this app works with the TRÅDFRI gateway. No where prior to the setup I got an indication that I need to have a dimmer/remote control/motion sensor/wireless switch to proceed further in the app. I am stuck on the choose your device screen because no one told me I need one of those. This screen should at least have an option to skip or access the menu, which I can’t. From the gateway literature, I just thought I need the app or Alexa to make it work with the TRÅDFRI lights. Do I have to call ikea or go to the store again to figure this out?.Version: 1.9.0

Buggy and slowThe app really needs some work. Bulbs often don’t connect the first few times and you find yourself on a ladder with your arm out holding down a button and waiting for a notification. The user interface lacks basic features like being able to reorder rooms or drag and drop switches from one room to another. The app itself often takes more than 20 seconds to connect to the hub (right next to my phone with a fibre-optic internet connection) or doesn’t connect at all. I have learned to force quit and restart the app when, on opening, it occasionally shows the setup prompt to scan the barcode. On restart it usually, eventually, connects. In summary it just about does the job but definitely needs attention from the developers. I’m hoping future updates to the app and firmware include a radical UX overhaul and far less buggy performance..Version: 1.1.3

Terrible! If you have more than a couple of light control, you’ll find the technology and design terrible. 1. The IKEA PLATTBOJ CR2032 lithium battery pack has the shortest battery life I’ve used. It last at most a week. Though it is not child-safe and thus easier to take out. It’s cheap if your time cost doesn’t count. 2. Each TRÅDFRI dimmer needs a CR2032 button battery, and how much time you prepared to spend on replacing the battery? It’s about 5 minutes per replacement job. 3. Unreliable dimmer control. It’s always a total disarray whenever an iOS upgrade or IKEA SMART Home app update. Hardware side, you can only turn it clockwise, otherwise the dimmer cap will come off. 4. It doesn’t work well with Google Assistant and Google Home app. It’s also have compatibility issue with Apple Home app, especially when you have multiple brands in the same home, e.g. Philips Hue. 5. About 50% of TRÅDFRI smart lightbulbs I purchased are too short to make a contact with the socket. 6. The apps, work too slow to control the lights. You also have to control them one at a time only..Version: 1.11.3

Nb de stores limitésJ’ai 3 stores dans la salle à manger et 4 dans mon salon. L’application ne permet pas de mettre plus de 2 équipements par pièce. Y-a-t’il une solution ?.Version: 1.13.0

Crashes every time I hit timer iconI use the Alexa routines to control all my Ikea connected devices and from there, they are 100% reliable. Recently, my Fyrtur blinds have been closing an hour early for no apparent reason (certainly not how they're set-up in Alexa Routines). I tried checking the Ikea Home Smart app, to see if there was a timer mis-set there, but the app crashes immediately upon touching the timer icon. So, I have no idea why the blinds have developed a mind of their own, because the app is unstable. Is this a known bug???.Version: 1.11.2

Don’t botherThe products and app are not worth the savings.Version: 1.11.4

Please fix the timersSetting on-off timers for bulbs is the most important feature of the app - but it is almost impossible..Version: 1.11.1

The app disconnects to gatewayThe app disconnects to gateway and have to the l the link process all over..Version: 1.11.2

Hope you’re patient!!!This kinda works and kinda doesnt. Einstein said the defintion of stupdity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well, let me tell you one thing, that is the only way to pair something to this device. 11th time’s the charm… then it joins a group you didnt mean it to be added to and well…. Good luck….Version: 1.17.2

App can’t pair with anything if it’s life depended on itMy lights and remote are working fine, but the app pairing is utter garbage. I can get the switch paired to the gateway and to lights but it never registers on the app. Waste of my time and money. I’ve tried everything on support pages as well. If there’s no fix soon I’m returning and switching to Phillips Hue.Version: 1.11.8

Latest updateAfter using this app and Ikea lights for the past year with no problems after the latest update the lights came on whenever they felt like it and not at the programmed times. Now I cannot update the timers as message comes up saying timers still updating and the control page has disappeared. Can this be fixed as soon as possible as I have no control over the lights without taking out the fuse..Version: 1.11.9

Super KlunkyIKEA is known for their ability to simplify unnecessary complexity. Unfortunately, in this regard, IKEA Home Smart is, so far, a step in the wrong direction. The major weakness in the IKEA home automation ecosystem is their super-klunky app. I started with a simple remote switch/outlet combo, which actually worked great as a standalone system. I was then able to register the remote switch with the central hub through the app. Not only was I then still not able to do any automation on the device, but now the switch had stopped working with the outlet! I tried to resync the switch with the outlet using their recommended procedure, but that didn't work either, so I will probably have to swap out another new remote switch/outlet until I can figure out what's going on with the first one. I also still have no clue how to set on/off times for the one device I've managed to register so far. I probably should have stayed within the Apple ecosystem, but I wanted to give IKEA a try, but so far no love. Deeply disappointing..Version: 1.18.2

Crashes when I select the lightsHave had tradfri for less than a week and the lights stopped responding. Neither remote nor app did anything. Opened the app and the lights are unreachable even though they're less than 20 feet from the hub. When I tried to reach the lights through settings the app would instantly close when I selected the lights. After turning them off and on again multiple times they're now reachable again. Hopefully for good, but who knows. And the app doesn't crash now that they're reachable. Update. Now the bulbs are lighting up in different colors in the morning. They're both correctly colored in the morning setting..Version: 1.12.0

Keeps losing connection to controlsWould be great but the controls and lights keep dropping off. Had to buy a new control and have repaired the others numerous times. No short way of doing it through the app…back to square one ever time..Version: 1.19.1

Setting up is a hassle (blinds)Adding the Gateway to my network was a hassle - it won’t work with VLANs. You need to have a proper VLAN fallback or it will simply never connect. Adding blinds is equally hard. I had all remotes/repeaters and blinds paired together, now I need to start over pairing them with the Gateway. It’s taking a lot of time, trial and errors and frustration. There’s no apparent reason which would explain that much complexity - I have over 40 smart home device, some of them on Zigbee, and have never had so much trouble. I should also mention how long it takes for the devices to update firmware. Hue has the same kind of environment, and they can do it incredibly faster than this thing here..Version: 1.11.6

Clunky and unreliable13 I comprising of bulbs, switches, dimmers, outlets and a signal repeater . I All setup and functioning ok, the timers are unreliable, and occasionally just do their own thing. Not good. I had rechecked all the timers from my phone app a few days before traveling, then went out to Dubai and China. My wife called me and said after the day I left, all the timers were up the spout, but my some coincidence, they appear to be switching against my new time zones. Not sure if this was a coincidence, or my phones time zone local had something todo with this. Although zigbee networks are not supposed to be accessible from outside the home. Strange, but definitely an issue, I have experienced this on a new occasions when I have been traveling. I hope the development team can look into this, as reliability should not be a compromise..Version: 1.11.3

Unstable and unreliablePurchased 4 of the new Kadrilj smart blinds and the Tradfri bridge to control the blinds using my iPhone. Oh dear. This system and its connection with the app to effectively control the blinds has a long way to go. The experience is both frustrating and disappointing. Upon opening the app it crashes on most occasions. Commanding the blinds to go up or down is mostly unresponsive followed by a message saying unable to connect. Eventually it does connect but still nothing happens. Sometimes after a while it kicks in and it starts to operate the blinds. However, it often just operates one blind so I have to press the command again to operate the other three, often unsuccessfully. Connecting and controlling the blinds with Alexa or Apple HomeKit was frustrating and unsuccessful. Furthermore the app doesn’t even show blinds as an option and simply lists them under ‘lighting’. Why?! So much for the smart home revolution. This is really disappointing Ikea. I expected better. Why launch a product that simply doesn’t work with the app! Fix is please. I spent over £550 on your product. The blinds work beautifully with the supplied remote but claiming they are ‘smart’ is simply misleading given the current app experience..Version: 1.11.0
