✓ Incredible gameI played the original tokaido board game years and years ago, but i prefer the ios version. i have been playing it almost every day, for the last 5 years. one request: it would be cool to be able to change the paddy field, mountain and sea artwork to be in the same style as the rest of the game. you could have the option in settings. i know it’s in homage to the original art and i am not saying the art is bad, i just think the ios game style is stunning and how beautiful would it be to have modern graphics for the mountain and paddy field?.Version: 1.15
✓ Looking for an actual board game-discovered this.Ironically I was looking for some table games to get us off devices and found this. Similar play to Sushi Go board game my daughter bought. It seems very simple but the characters and turns require strategy in deciding what the other characters will go choose for bonuses. Now to try playing together. The only thing I found annoying was the movement forward “snapping” along road line rather than just freely scrolling across screen. It makes it hard to see the board layout as you look forward to choose next move..Version: 1.08.02

✓ Love the game but there’s a glitch that needs fixingMy wife and two children love playing Tokaido on “pass and play” mode as part of our family game night. The game is great family fun. There’s one issue though with the way turns are generated when you reach a “double” space. What should happen, based on the rules available on line, is that the first (i.e., “bottom”) player gets the next turn. However, what is happening is that the second (“top”) player is getting that next turn... Hope you can update the game to fix that, otherwise this is a 5-star app..Version: 1.10.02
✓ Lovely Port of a Great GameLets you practice your strategy and gameplay before you take on your friends at the actual board game. Lets you play with friends that are out of town. ✓ Good overall, but HUGE Bug with ChubeiThere is a bug with Chubei. Played a game online with a friend. In the end, there was a discrepancy in the scoring between my game and my friend’s game. He was playing Chubei - he had an extra 5 points that was not reflected on my game. When looking into the details, I saw that his game showed 2 additional panorama sections that he received from encounters which was not apparent on my game. For some reason, the panoramas from encounters are not registering..Version: 1.15

✓ Beautiful Classic! Can’t wait for expansionsA beautiful, relaxing game which has had any earlier issues fixed by the developers. Take a vacation along the coast, with wonderfully animated characters and locations. Now we’re waiting on the wonderful Crossroads and Matsuri expansions. Crossroads turns every location into a choice, turning a game of hopscotch into a piece of real strategy, as you can now choose legendary souvenirs, end of game bonuses, one off powers, a risky round of gambling, and more. Matsuri adds many new characters and adds an event at each step of the journey which affects the game, greatly improving variation and replayability. And maybe even… promos and the New Encounters? 🤞 Even without these, my girlfriend and I love playing this game. Once they’re here, it’ll take over many dinners and game nights each week. ✓ Relaxing, beautiful challengeWhat a beautiful game. I only play solo, so I can’t speak to online issues. But this app is flawless in solo play. Others have mentioned the tutorial being minimal, but I thought it sufficed and was well done. It gives you what you need to get started. Rules and strategy are easily available online if you need them, but this game is meant to be an exploration, it’s about the journey. The pace is relaxing, but there is still a strategy and challenge to it. It’s not overly hard nor too easy. It’s simply a relaxing, fun game. I’m glad that when you start a new solo game, you can click in settings for that game and set it to fast AI. That’s great for when you don’t have as much time. But the regular speed is perfect for a relaxing game. Thank you for a good game at a good price with no ads or IAP. It’s also good on battery life. I’m very happy to own this game!.Version: 1.12

Playing with my kids. :) Minor bug showed up last night: character tokens settle on top of each other like a stack so the first player to land on a feature with two spots is hidden by the second’s token. ✓ No sound/ musicGood game, haven’t played the actual board game before but was easy to learn and play with a 10-year old. But neither of us gets any sound/ music. In settings we’ve tried everything from toggling music/ volume/ language to no use. We’ve tried downloading in multiple devices - phones/ iPads.. all have the same issue. ✓ Wow. Just wowI don’t normally leave reviews or comments but I had never heard of this game and I saw a review of this app on my google feed and decided to read it. I became intrigued after reading about this game and the highly favorable comments by others and I started to look at the board game and I decided to give it a try for only 1.99. I cannot stop playing this game! The rules were a tad bit confusing and even the tutorial doesn’t fully explain everything so I went online and did some slight research on all the different spots you land on and how they work, and it was easy to understand how it all comes together. I only had to play twice to get an understanding of this game and I am blown away. Can’t believe I had never hear of this game earlier. I am strongly considering getting the board game now! My only gripe is: where is the expansion!? I hope they actually release it because it would make this amazing game even better. I seriously cannot stop playing. Once I started I gotta play like 5 games in a row(which take like 13 minutes a piece) but it’s so addicting even when you don’t win, you enjoy having played a round so much that I wanna play again and again! If you are on the fence about it, pick this game up. There are no bug crashes or glitches after only have this game for 2 days but I can’t keep my battery life! Get this now guys.Version: 1.10.02
✓ Amazing!I love tabletop games and have always wanted to try Tokaido after seeing it on Tabletop with Wil Wheaton. This game is so much fun and such a breath of fresh air in comparison to other games where the object to kill monsters etc to win. A great combination of relaxing and strategic! ✓ After several playsThe game is nice, simple and beautiful. I like how the board game seems to come alive. There is a bug when we 'resume' from the offline game. Also, It would be good be enable some extra option for variations in play mode. Also, some expansion will make it much better. Sadly, no one is on online mode. :/ Add after recent update: It is a nice feature to see who is online and add friends but the table is loading continually. I cannot join a table nor invite others because of it. Also, the "resume" in offline is just white screen with the option bar. I am not sure if the tutorial mode was edited but it looked much better!.Version: 1.05
✓ Fun but please update for bug fixes!This game is great when you play offline. EVERY SINGLE TIME I play with friends, it glitches out at the end and skips the achievements. It goes straight to the leaderboard. 8/10 times my friends and I all have different scores and winners on our different phones. This is super annoying and leads to many arguments for the ultra competitive people we are. We still play and love the game, but it would be wonderful if this wasn’t an issue..Version: 1.11.01
✓ Well done, great updates.Coming from someone who owns a physical copy of the game, this is done quite well. The graphics are nice, the game is fun, there's hardly anything to complain about. That being said, after a couple of rounds I have found a few annoyances: 1: There is a very limited options menu, but you can now change the speed at which the AI plays, which is a huge improvement. 2: Scrolling across the map is still a little unintuitive, but better. If it was slowed down just a bit, it’d probably be perfect. 3: There are now two ways to pick your character: you can choose from any of them, or you can have the computer limit you to two people. This is an amazing change, and the only way I can think of improving it is if they added the option to have the character chosen for you at random. This is an update to an older review, but most of my concerns have been addressed and fixed completely. Love the direction this game is going. I’m pretty eager to see how they implement the expansions!.Version: 1.08.02

✓ Beautiful but buggyBeautiful game, but the achievements are totally bugged. I keep unlocking achievements that are nowhere near close to being correct - for example, getting the achievement for winning a game when I was in last place, for successfully playing 50 times when I’ve only played twice... I suspect the game currently counts anything the AI does towards achievements as well, since the AI doing things like finishing a panorama causes the achievement to pop. What makes this worse is that the achievements repeat, so I’m basically getting spammed with notifications throughout the whole game as half the AI’s actions trigger some kind of achievement. I see patch notes saying they fixed this problem but it’s certainly not fixed for me. I’d also appreciate if game settings (like fast AI movement) were retained throughout all games..Version: 1.11

I'm guessing every user online is a bot because they're constantly in the lobby, ever hour or time of day I check. Will rate higher once this feature is fixed. I don’t want to launch the app the next time and start with the tutorial again! - When you stop at a non-interactive location, such as painting or bathing, double confirm to move on is frustrating. ✓ Fun and relaxing, with small bugsI bought this game after playing the physical version at a friend’s house. It’s very enjoyable and, unlike a lot of other games, doesn’t seem to cause any arguments in our house, which is a big bonus! It has a nice relaxing soundtrack and cool visuals. There are a few issues that I’ve picked up on though, after playing about 5 online matches and 5 offline: - Twice, when I’ve been playing online, when achievements are being given at the end, it shows who won the first achievement and there’s a weird glitch where the image vibrates and as soon as you tap the screen, it skips to the rankings at the end and I’m sure it makes the points get messed up too. For example, I was coming second before the achievements were added, then was beaten by the person coming third who had less achievements than I did (none of mine were panoramas, which are given during play). - I would like it if you could have two people on the same device with different characters playing online. There may be an option for this, but we were unable to find it and had to share the same character to play online together. - if someone online stops playing, please could they be switched to AI, at least temporarily after a couple of minutes of inactivity? Four of us reached the very end, just before the inn of day 4 and I gave up waiting after about 10 mins and had to quit. This makes me feel less comfortable about playing online and even more so with more people, making it more likely someone is going to drop out. - the tutorial box needs to be unticked every time I play on my iPad, as I went through the tutorial on my iPhone. Please make sure it stays off if I have unticked it previously. - tapping “ok” twice during encounters and panoramas is slightly frustrating. Please change this to one tap. It’s so small and out of the way anyway, I can’t imagine many people accidentally tapping it and nothing is lost if they do (maybe keep it as two taps for the temples and shops? But even this seems unnecessary to me). - when looking for a “room” online, there only ever seems to be one or two available, even when there’s about 100 people online. Surely there are more rooms that people have created, but I should probably feel lucky, after reading other people haven’t been able to play online at all. - it would be nice to have a link to some instructions rather than having to search online for them. Hopefully the developers see this and are able to implement a few of the changes. If they do see this, you’ve done a great job in general and it’s still fun to play :) thanks.Version: 1.11.01
✓ Just noticed a small bugI had an encounter and received the 3rd piece of the paddy panorama and got the 3 bonus points. Then it said that I had already completed that panorama and offered me a piece of a different one immediately after. Now that I think about it, an AI player may have already finished the paddy panorama but I also got the bonus, although I’m not completely sure if that’s the case. Also, whenever I try multiplayer there are no games available, not sure exactly why though. Other than those two things I’ve been using this app for awhile now and really love the game! Been waiting forever for crossroads though..Version: 1.10.02
✓ Great adaptationLoved the board game but it isn’t always easy to get three people to play. So it’s nice to be able to play solo. Only problem seems to a bug where I choose a meal at the last inn and it doesn’t give me the points. Doesn’t happen every time and it’s not limited to one character but it happens frequently enough to notice. Other than it’s a great adaptation both in game play and visual design..Version: 1.15
✓ Really pleasant experienceThere's something really charming about this game. It seems quite daunting when you start playing but you'll be hooked quicker than you think.
