✓ Downloaded, tried and swiftly deletedI tried this app when I heard my current Scrabble app was being rebooted and just as quickly deleted it. Please make a Scrabble version that is not so gamified...there are serious Scrabble players out there who just want to play the classic game. This is what differentiated the current version that is getting phased out. Now it’s just another Words with Friends...I’m devastated at this and literally dreading when I get locked out of the old version in June. Please do something about this for us loyal players to the classic game!!.Version: 1.21.2
✓ Someone's HEAD needs to ROLLIn this world of apps, it's difficult to stand out. Usually, you do so in one of two ways - make an outstandingly good App or make a shockingly bad one. This is a prime example of the latter. Know your audience, do your homework and don't be afraid to keep the current players happy. I bought the original Scrabble game brought to life by EA. It was exactly what I wanted, continue to want. But now, that version is throwing up ridiculous words and is essentially unplayable (with the computer as opponent). A sneaky agreement to make folks shift to the new platform? Well, it has not worked. Scopely, your designers need to be sacked. And their managers. And whomever else approved this completely useless incarnation of a classic..Version: 1.24.2
✓ CrashingI haven’t played the previous game but enjoy this one apart from the reloading every couple of minutes I load this game, play perhaps with two people, crash. Load again, play one person, watch an ad, crash. Load again, play two people, play a jewels game, crashes and lose my free game. This crashing goes on all the time. I lose several points and free games because of this. Very frustrating. Is this a dating site? I get messages from men, not ladies, saying the usual hello, how are you, where are you from then the person asks if I am married, do I have children and do I work. After I reply and ask them the same questions I get the same answers from nearly all of them. They are widowed, lost a child, working abroad in some war torn country under cover and don’t have constant internet so they want my email address or hang out address, or whatever it’s called. When I refuse they end the game. I actually told one person that I was terminating the chat and game as it wasn’t a dating site. Is it necessary to have the facility to chat at all. Mind you if you are feeling a bit down, the compliments re my photo would put a smile on your face. I have now changed it to a photo of a tree and don’t get any chats at all. Anyway, get rid of the message facility and fix the crashing and the game would be okay. I would also like to see settings where you can turn off the sound..Version: 1.22.0
✓ Initially great but....Being in a hard lockdown because of COVID, this app kept me amused for hours. It was quite enjoyable to play, easy to manage and never froze. At one stage I was playing about 15 -20 games at once, which I suspect everyone was doing. As I moved up the levels, I noticed the selection of letters I ‘drew’ out started to get harder to place. If it had happened in one or two games I would have put it down to bad luck. However, it was happening in every game so it must have been their algorithm. This annoyed me. I then accidentally pushed one of the buttons and discovered a ‘cheat’ where the game placed your tiles (at a cost of course). Maybe it was me being nieve as after all the developers had to include ‘in app’ purchases. That took away the enjoyment. I deleted the app immediately..Version: 1.27.2
✓ Misrepresentation?There are sixty (60) 5 star ratings in the list out of a reported 17,000 plus total reviews and some of them look to be bots. How can the overall review be 4.2? This app is abominable and I suspect the overall rating includes ratings for the original Scrabble game which is truly 5 stars. Do not fix this app, it is basically flawed. Give it up as a lost cause, delete it and return to the original game..Version: 1.23.2
✓ Serious players stay away!!!How does this have the overall rating that it has? 4.3 is just not possible based on the posted reviews. Just read a few - I've scanned through scores of them and almost all are just 1 or 2 stars. This app sucks out all the pleasure of the game of Scrabble. All the animations, sub-games and click-bait are ridiculous. They become the dominant experience of the app, rather than actual game play. Developer is more interested in harvesting email from your contact list. Booooo. Bring back the EA experience!.Version: 1.22.0
✓ The UI is so busy it’s a turn offI’m a UI designer and I can’t believe how insane the UI of this app is. I tried it and started feeling dizzy. ✓ Obnoxious ads and UXWhile I love the game itself and how it’s configured on the app, there are some incredibly annoying aspects too. For one thing, you are constantly interrupted by obnoxious ads that shut down whatever music, podcast or audio book you might be listening to. Once you tediously click past the ads, you need to exit the app to restart whatever you were listening to. Secondly, there are unnecessarily long animations displaying your “earnings” from playing each round. These displays sometimes force you into clicking through a series of several buttons/screens to get you to start some other random game in the app— all while you are just trying to get back to your existing game. But good luck trying to figure out how to return to your game. The interface of the app is chaotic and unintuitive. There are so many things going on visually and functionally in the app on it’s maddening. Please improve the UX! Also, I get that apps need to run ads and/or charge for certain features to make it worth it, but isn’t there some other way to do this? I would pay to not see ads..Version: 1.40.3
✓ Ad overload ruins the play.The game play is excellent but it is ruined by too many ads that run too frequentlyfor too long a time before you can dismiss them. The worst ad in my experience is the one for Royal Match! I would never download this app after having to endure it so many times and for so long while trying to play scrabble. And what’s with the reward pop ups? I can’t be bothered to find out about them I was thinking of giving a 1 star rating but decided the actual game play is worth 2 stars. This the first time I have ever written a review of an app. I feel very strongly that a potentially great app is almost unplayable with all the ads that have to be endured..Version: 1.69.1
✓ Poor updateSince the app has been updated it keeps blacking out and I am unable to play the game. The ads have been increasingly repetitive and freeze the game. I have to leave it and come back later to finish the game. It is annoying as I love playing scrabble!.Version: 1.69.0
✓ DEVELOPER NOT LISTENINGI have just discovered that my existing EA SCRABBLE App, which I gladly paid for many years ago and have been enjoying ever since, has been discontinued. I will not be able to complete the 15 games I had in progress. The game was excellent, and kept gameplay simple; following the original Hasbro design. The game connected me with fellow scrabble players around the world and gave me hours of pleasure. I have read all of the reviews above for the new Go and I must agree with the vast majority and say this game is absurdly frustrating. I can only imagine that in its current format it will become a complete flop and I’m astounded that Scopely are trying to make a money making App from Scrabble. But either way it’s obvious that Scopely are not listening to the many Scrabble fans who have asked and begged for the return of the old game. They just keep trotting out the same response that it’s a new App, there is an option to play the classic game, etc. We want the old game back not this juvenile twaddle you’ve replaced it with. We don’t want Jems, chests, prizes, congratulations for scoring more than 30 pts, side games, adverts, league tables, fancy tiles, AI opponents, stupid sounds and jingles. ✓ Disappearing review.I wrote it and went to length and when I went to submit it it amazingly disappeared. it was being trapped in your nonsensical games and cannot get out. I even deleted the app and came back and it was still there demanding I play. If you want kids games, please call it scrabble for youths. This is now the third time I have to delete the app in the last couple of months. The add share the stories on the left side of the screen where there is the second x - it will not accept it. You cam can tap and tap and the only way to close it you have to delete the app. This needs to be corrected. I can’t be the only one this is happening to. Your née google ads will not release even when you answer their questions. Had to delete app and come back in. It is getting to be too much work to play a game. If it is happening to me it has to be happening to others. Again I had t delete the game to be able to close an ad that is ridiculous even though the x was there but would not go forward or close. ✓ Too many adsI have payed this game on and off over the years and having just come back to it there are waaaay too many ads now. I understand the need for revenue but to have to watch a 30 second ad after pretty much every turn is more an irritating chore than fun….. you know fun??? The whole point of playing games??? I’m pretty sure I used to be able to use my gems for stuff like swapping out tiles but now I have to watch yet another ad to do so AND I’m pretty sure they force you to do this by replicating letters, the amount of times I get 4 of the same vowels in my set of tiles is shocking. ✓ Just horribleTacky, cheap, buggy, full of gimmicks and microtransactions. While EA's Scrabble was far from perfect, Scopely's version is one of the worst video games I've played. I'm also curious about how this app maintains a 4 1/2 star rating on the App Store when all user reviews are 1 or 2 stars, which makes me think that the score is artificially inflated by bot accounts. Been playing Scrabble on mobile for over 10 years, but I won't be making the transition to Scrabble Go..Version: 1.21.1
✓ Annoying bugs and pushy designThis is mostly great. I like the dictionary integration and that you can play the computer on several levels. There are two pretty annoying things though: 1. There are some bugs with how it shows your score history. If you start to scroll through it, all the sudden the scores will change. The labeled winner for part matches will sometimes be the player with the lower score. It’s just weird. As a side note, I just played a game against the app where it declared the computer the winner after playing the last tile, but it still has two tiles left! You can go back and look at the board, so I was able to take a screenshot where it labels the computer the winner, but we both have tiles left. Weird. 2. The all is pretty pushy about starting new games and challenging random people. It will push my active game with my friend to the end of the list and put challenges from strangers and past games I played against the computer at the top, both of which are useful. I don’t mind watching ads for a free version, but this extra pushiness to play random people is pretty intrusive. It won’t let you dismiss those either, so you have to scroll past them over and over again..Version: 1.33.4
✓ Worst game everThe adverts ruin the game. Please put out a version that you pay for that has no Ads. You have ruined my favourite game. It such a shame because the scrabble play is really OK but…. The adverts lock up or will not return to the game. All the other challenges, rewards and bling are a waste of time and are just rubbish. ✓ Confusing interface, unnecessary pop ups and clutterGameplay is very confusing, very cluttered and difficult to navigate. Unnecessary pop ups everywhere. ✓ ScrabbleNot impressed with all the freezing the game is doing, I not only lost my streak in duels, but I leveled up and didn’t get my reward cos it froze and when I restarted the game it was no where to be seen. ✓ FrozenI did give this game a 4 star rating only after a few games because it got me in. I love playing this game, you may say addictive. Now for what ever reason the game has frozen on me, will not open. I have tried so many ways to try and fix the problem but to no success. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling, gone through settings, you name it. I still continue to get notifications that players are waiting on my turn. ✓ InfantileUPDATED REVIEW This version of Scrabble remains infuriating. The developers keep updating it and saying that each update is “major”. In fact there is no discernible change, let alone any improvement. As an example: many of the players you challenge don’t play for several days, if at all, yet the only way you can get rid of them is to resign the game. In the proper Scrabble app, which is sadly about to be discontinued, you can force forfeit such an opponent after two days. Apart from that, the whole presentation is far too complex and fussy and the awful Candy Crush style graphics are as bad as ever. I just wish the developer would listen to these and the many other comments made in reviews here and just give us a simple effective replacement for the existing Scrabble app. This version of Scrabble is awful. Even played in so called “Classic” mode you still have the infantile graphics and games against players who are either obvious bots or who don’t play for days and who you can’t force forfeit. ✓ Subscribing players are massively let downI absolutely love playing scrabble and this app USED to be the best one & a must have for Scrabble fans across the world! I have been subscribing for years & absolutely didn’t mind paying for the privilege as the prizes rewarded enabled me to play on - NOT NOW THOUGH! Despite being an expert player and a long term subscriber, the rewards to playing lately are way too few, and the tokens required to do so have doubled. This has frustrated & infuriated me - subscribing for Scrabble Go on a monthly basis is no longer worth it and would not recommend it anyone going forward as I used to. As well as reducing the rewards and doubling the token amount, the whole tile thing is a complete waste of time!!!! What ever is this all about? Absolutely not interested and simply cannot see the point of it! Takes up too much time & has benefit to the players whatsoever. Maybe for kids collecting cards but as an adult it’s insulting! ✓ Could have been so awesomeI love scrabble and I don’t want to buy any of the bonuses so I paid to remove the ads. This didn’t work and still the app interrupts my scrabble game with supposed upgrades or prizes. It’s so annoying! Also, it should put active games at the start of your feed. It doesn’t! ✓ Sketchy PoliciesIt’s a fun game with good graphics and in game incentives, and it definitely sharpened my scrabble skill by playing it for a few days, but the privacy policy of the company is rather sketchy. Of course, it’s for the more social applications of this app and you “don’t have to” but there are in-game rewards locked off by requesting you give them your entire contact library or make a facebook account in order to access them. The information usage by the company is vague and threatening, and I don’t want these people to have my address. Though I feel I should point out there’s not as many creeps and scammers as other reviews say, to give them credit. I assume all these info-sucking policies would scare off anyone looking to cause trouble, but I also feel that this invasion of privacy in the name of security is highly upsetting. It’s a decent app and worth your time if you’re willing to sell your soul and personal information for a few in game credits. Please think critically before agreeing to anything this app offers you, and if you’re paranoid like me absolutely do not get it. ✓ So, so disappointing.I feel like I’m back in kindergarten. Whirling stars, pop ups every few minutes, explosions of jelly bean colours. Honestly, do the developers think we are all 8 years old? I would think most Scrabble players are in their middle years and just want to play a good representation of the original board game - even my grandchildren, who have played the board version of Scrabble, think this is a load of rubbish. If they want to play “kids stuff” there are plenty of alternatives out there. ✓ Too many ads and extra fluffUpdate: the excessive ads are really ruining the gameplay. I’ll be finishing the games I have in progress, then I will be removing this app from my phone. It’s a shame that the official Scrabble app is STILL the worst option for playing scrabble. If you just want to play scrabble, and you don’t want to be bombardment with ads or extra faff, play WordFeud instead. Even Words With Friends is a better choice than this. ———————- This app is better than the old Scrabble app that was barely playable. Unfortunately this app adds so much extra fluff on top of the basic premise of playing Scrabble online... collecting various trinkets in order to unlock tile styles gets old fast, and the various leagues and tournament modes offer very little in terms of actual rewards. The biggest problem with this app is the number of ads. If you’ve got several games going you need to sit through an ad after every play you make. Takes all the fun out of taking a few minutes to get caught up in your games. You can buy your way out of ads if you are willing to pay £4.99 a month, but a game like this isn’t worth such a subscription amount, especially considering a subscription to Apple Arcade gets you access to many, many games for just a few quid more. If you want to just play Scrabble and don’t care about all the extra faff that bloats this app, play WordFeud instead. ✓ Its not just the ads, or the frequency….There are so many ads, yes, and $10 PER MONTH to get rid of them, which is more than some streaming services is a but much, but thats not what got me to delete the app. It was while I’m at the ice rink, while my daughter is skating, and despite my phone being on silent, an ad comes on at high volume “I’M A 34DD!” before I can close the app. Ads that don't respect volume settings crosses the line for me. Not to mention I had to use facebook to log in, you should be able to get my gender from that, and maybe targeting me, a man, with bra ads isn’t the smartest thing? Aside from the cost of ad free, and the technical problem of ads ignoring silent mode, the final bit that was annoying is that it drinks battery life like nothing I’ve seen. I would play for 15 minutes or so and my iPhone was hot to the touch. This would also lead to the app starting to become less responsive. The game itself worked fine otherwise, and the adventure mode was fun, but its nowhere near worth it. A real shame this and Words with Friends are unable to provide a quality app experience at a reasonable price. The free to play model works for other games with a good experience, and the whales pay for the cosmetics. ✓ Awful interface and major disappointment to scrabble fansAs others have said, the interface looks like a cheap touchscreen casino game. So many bright clashing colors that is so busy it gives me a headache to even look at the dashboard screen. A ton of in-app purchases for mindless jewels, chests, tickets and things that are so annoying. In-app purchases allow you to do things like free tile swaps without passing a turn, and seeing potential space play on the board, basically making it soo easy to get bingos and rewarding players that pay for the bonuses and taking away from traditional gameplay and competition. Ironically they have ranked leaderboards, but they’re meaningless if you can over compensate for your lack of skill by paying your way. Would rather pay money for an authentic classic Scrabble game with maybe some of the added features here like leaderboards or side/related games if they’re actually fun or interesting, while keeping the competitive gameplay competitive without rewarding those who purchase jewels, chests, tickets or anything else no one ever had to think about to play a fun game of scrabble..Version: 1.22.0
✓ TOO MANY ADS!Can I PLEASE complete a solo game without being interrupted by an ad after every word I submit? I just closed the game today after 1 solo game and 3 words into the second one, because there were so many ads it wasn't even fun to play! My mom and I used to play this game together a few years ago and I know there was ads, but I'm pretty sure I could finish a game without watching an ad after every turn! I like to watch extra ads for rewards, so please stop putting so many during game. I think a lot of people also watch the extra ads for rewards. I don't mind that in an online game after a turn is OVER I have to watch an ad, that makes perfect sense. But putting an ad after every word I submit in a solo game that could literally take me 2 minutes to complete (the same amount of time it takes some people to think of a word in an online match) IS TOO MUCH! That’s all it took. 15 minutes before I realized some underage gamer had destroyed what was one of the best games ever invented - so I deleted it. I’m not a prude. I’m not technically challenged. I see younger generations struggling every day with attention span issues. I get it. But not everybody needs bells and whistles and jewels and God knows what else is imbedded in the Scrabble Go app to be entertained. If it’s about money then charge me more for the app, but to destroy a simple quality intellectual game like Scrabble and turn it into a moronic video game is asinine. You clearly could have included an option for people to choose the classic version - which, if it is available, I was unable, well unwilling, to wade through the nonsense to find it. That would have met everybody’s needs. We’re getting far enough along in the technology craze that not every computer geek or technology buff or game player is a 15 year old kid with the attention span of a goldfish. And the need to pander to said demographic while ignoring others may be at the detriment of your company. Consider there are actually older people -with money - who enjoy technology, that you may want to address in your product development and marketing efforts. If you’re designing a new game - no problem. But to destroy such a classic for no apparent reason is just ridiculous. I used to wake up every morning and look forward to playing with friends around the world and now I’m only playing because my close friends have asked me to but really am not getting the satisfaction that I used to. Firstly I don’t want to play with strangers that I don’t know, i have enough friends that I do know , then I used to use the dictionary all the time especially the 2 letter words and I really want to only play scrabble without all the additional rewards, etc I never minded looking at ads in between BUT I think you’ve positively ruined the game. ✓ It would be a 5 star, but it’s bugging me nowI love scrabble, but with no one to play with during lockdown, I decided to download the app. I really enjoy it...love all of the bells and whistles that seem to bug others, but I like all of the tiles you can collect and the tournaments are fun, etc. HOWEVER...maybe it’s my iPad, or maybe I’m just being dumb, it keeps dropping out/off and I have to restart it. Annoying in itself, but even more so when I have just used gems to start a tournament game, or just as I open a chest to collect rewards! I have wasted 24 gems in the last 10 mins, and these are ones I paid for. I’ve never bought in app thingmy bobs in other apps, but as I said, I love all the bells and whistles and was willing to pay. But now I’m just cross! Maybe advice can be offered on how to make this stop, nothing on scopely customer support pages to advise, so sadly have to give it 3 rather than 5 stars. ✓ Not Scrabble...Even with the so called improvements: what a mess. I just want to play a straight forward game of scrabble, with either friends or random players. The interface is messy and full of stuff I'm not interested in. I don't want the constant prompts for rewards, add ons, crystals. And the way it tells you word is correct as you lay the tiles is abysmal. If there are users who want this, all fine and good; let them have it, but can you make a classic version for those who don't? I'm happy to pay for a classic game if that's what it takes, I mean I payed for the previous version. Maybe time to look for an alternative, because this make my head explode 🤯 Now in April 2022. You've killed it for me. Absolutely atrocious. The developers (?) should be ashamed of themselves. Crash after crash. Fails to load. Forced constant power ups, diamonds and other unnecessary garbage. ✓ Too crowdedLove the concept don’t get me wrong, but the execution is terrible. Very bubbly and cartoony menu design, far to over crowded, it’s like they tried to ram every possible money making feature on each and every page.. takes away from the simplicity and relaxing nature of playing scrabble. Oh and the ads... I seem to be getting ads after each turn against my partner, only way to turn them off is to pay a monthly subscription, no way I am doing that, as that is exactly what you want us to do. Annoy us with ads to force us to pay you to have an ad free experience, you should be thinking about the consumers experience over making every penny of profit. Disgusting. Notifications... either on or off... now this is a big one for me and I would imagine it is for a lot of other people two... I currently have a 5 badge icon on the app and have no idea how to remove it... on top of that, I have notifications turned on to know when my opponent has played their turn BUT because I do have them on I get spammed throughout the day with stupid notifications again trying to get money out of you. I would love for a games company to actually consider the consumers experience first and put the money making efforts last, but we live in a world full of businesses that only care about money. ✓ Step right up!Firstly – This app is annoying and will drive you up the wall if you are a Scrabble player. Be prepared for a lot of unavoidable childish “prizes”. The game looks more like a fruit machine than Scrabble, which I think is probably the point of the design. Secondly – I believe that most of the players are either bots, or staff employed to let you win, to keep you coming back for more, so that you watch the ads in between turns and they get the ad revenue. There are many players with those fake profile pictures you can generate. They score 8’s and 11’s. They lead you onto triple word tiles. None of them have ever beaten me, but they always want to play again and seem to be available to play 24 hours a day. I have just finished a win streak of 65 games. So the app will be deleted now because I do not want to be used in this way. It is a shame because Scrabble as a game is enough to keep people coming back. ✓ Horrific UXAbsolutely awful. Good game, but there are ads after every single turn. The app itself is glitchy, it’s absolute nightmare to try and connect to Facebook (it auto links to Apple, even if you selected the FB option). I cannot even express how much of a pain it is to try and link the game with your Facebook friends. If you had deleted the app and decided to reinstall and want to link your FB account, you have to 1) disable iCloud Game Center 2) Select the option to connect with Facebook friends, and you think that would work, right? Wrong. No matter what you click, it sends you into an endless loop of linking to your Apple ID. From there, you need to delete the app and reinstall. Then log Facebook and manage your app permissions and remove Scrabble Go, then add it back again to reset it. Then try connecting the app to Facebook again and hope that it works. And if you think you could just delete the Scrabble account linked ti your Apple ID so that you can avoid all of this and start over, you’d be wrong again. You have to submit a request to have your account deleted and have that request approved, but not before answering a bunch of questions about how many gems you have, etc. Your app is a software nightmare. ✓ Total disasterThis stupidity of this new version is beyond comprehension. The interface is incredibly confusing and totally infantile with silly childish cartoon faces, garishly coloured twirling flashing shooting things, endless intrusive popups etc. etc. giving it the appearance of an arcade game. Although there appears to be an option to play the classic game it can only be played against other players and not the computer so I couldn’t try it. When ‘play against the computer’ is selected the computer gains a silly cartoon name and face and neither the dictionary nor the two-letter word lists are available. I read recently that the average age of Scrabble competitors was 40 to 50 so it beggars belief that an ‘upgrade’ to such a classic game appears to have been designed to appeal to kindergarten children. So many pointless junk "prizes", attempts to force you to play other players (many of which are bots, but they don't tell you that), and horrendously intrusive ads (with an exorbitant price to pay if you want to get rid of them). The classic format is marginally better, but you can't play games with more than 2 people in classic mode. The messaging system is also terrible - autocorrect doesn't work, sometimes it stops accepting letters for no reason, forcing you to start a new message, and sometimes the message simply disappears without these recipient seeing it. ✓ I dislike a lot of itThe app is annoying, it is cluttered and too busy. Who designed the layout? Fire them or tell them try again.. Fun, exciting and fresh/current can be overdone.. There is a row of profiles that pops up after every turn i make asking me to start another game (not exact words) i would like this to be disabled.. This is unnecessary here. You can select to start more games on another area why is it bothering me WHILE PLAYING? There should be no pop up anything during games. After or before ok but not during. I see that there is too much stuff trying to be smushed in to a small place.. the game needs pruning simplified.. I appreciate classic mode but again with the profile bar popping up all the time asking me to start more games is annoying.. What i do like though is the tile customization, and the gaining exp of sorts and other things in order to unlock them. There used to be a little waiting and clicking past animations which wasn't ideal (esp when paying a monthly subscription!) but now there's a lot more annoying screens, waiting, clicking.. I subscribed and all that did was remove ads but you still get pop ups for gemstone boxes that you have to use to play other versions. ✓ Destroyed my favorite game appOnce upon a time I paid $10 for an ad free peaceful enjoyable scrabble app. I played it regularly every day and enjoyed it. Then one day I updated it which was labeled as “the last update for this app”. So I updated thinking “why?”. ✓ Scrabble Meets Las Vegas, and We All LoseI have played Scrabble most of my life and love the simplicity of the game. Enjoyed the Scrabble app immensely. Then they sold the rights to EA, and the result is Scrabble Go. Scrabble has become an abomination. ✓ Scrabble VegasThe actual gameplay is fairly decent, but outside of that, the app has some negatives. It’s too busy, with lots of flashing and scrolling graphics, stars, banners, ‘prize chests’ for achieving seemingly arbitrary milestones, various weird arcade modes, and so forth. It feels like being on the slot floor at a Vegas casino. I don’t love that players can basically cheat, by spending their winnings to get word suggestions... nor that additional cheats can be ‘earned’ by simply watching a commercial. It’s all a bit psychotic and over-the-top. It has a notification system, that seems to be misfiring at random. I currently have eight notifications, because it’s my turn in one game and I have one unread ‘mail’ (not actual mail, just an unclaimed prize chest). If I action those two things, I might still have eight notifications... or one... or it might increase to twelve. That’s clearly a bug. I’ve had several enjoyable games, and I don’t completely object to watching ads every now and then between turns. Other than that, it feels like visual overload. ✓ Ads and micro transactions.It’s an ok game. Scrabble is scrabble. Playing people or playing bots it’s helps to pass the time what really helps to pass the time however is the ads, the non stop stream of ads either for other games or for in game micro transactions after every turn, literally no matter which of the games modes you play some good and some terrible you are bombarded with ads. I get that developers need ad revenue to pay the bills and as much as I hate them throughout gaming micro transactions are now just part of how most games, especially mobile games, work the incessant bombardment will end up costing you in the long run. Ads used to be every three or four turns, frequent but not significantly game interrupting, the turn/ad/turn/ad sequence has turned me away and I guarantee I won’t be the only one. ✓ Terrible replacement for the classic game!!If you enjoyed the simplicity and ease of use of the old EA Scrabble game, you will HATE this app. There are way too many extra features that do nothing to enhance gameplay, but instead are attempts to get players to sink unnecessary money into the game. The teacher mode that so many of us used in the old version is only free once or twice, then you have to spend gems to use it. The two word reference sheet in the dictionary is gone (and if it isn’t gone, I sure haven’t been able to find it). The classic board (as the developers will tell you) technically exists, but it’s not immediately obvious WHERE it is. If you’re going to try to sell fans of the old version on this new version by claiming that the board we all love is there, it shouldn’t be so hard to find. Also, even if you activate the “Hide From Searches” feature in the privacy settings, random players can still start games with you, so I have no idea what the point of this privacy feature is. For people who like this style of game - lots of side challenges to earn aesthetic features, random challenges, daily chests, lots of extras - this is a good game. ✓ AwfulThis app is just awful. I loved the ld EA version, which I had gladly paid for. I had a handful of regular playing partners and we were perfectly happy for things to continue as they were. Then along came this ‘improved version’ which is just awful. I am down to one regular playing partner - we both left it alone for a while but found we missed the little competition we had - so we have re-started. I have turned off my notifications because the blinking thing wouldn’t leave me alone, telling me about gems, tiles, treasure chests, tournaments, tens or world-wide challengers who I am not interested in playing with but they are thrust on me anyway - so I can’t just got a notification when it’s my turn in the match I do want to play. Then when I turn it on to see if it’s my turn I have to negotiate a whole load of pop ups telling me about ridiculous stuff I don’t need or want, such as ‘treasure’ and ‘prizes’ - It’s just awful awful awful. Cons: There are some creepy men on here but I guess they’re everywhere online. Very busy and colourful, makes it quite confusing to use. Lots of ads. A lot of the tiles you can win are not well designed for scrabble. It is difficult to read the letters you have. Too many tabs, needs a full redesign. Sometimes you can watch an ad to earn a prize but the prize never loads and it’s gone. You can favourite players but I have no idea where to find them. Players nudge you if you’ve taken longer than 24hrs to have your go. Rather annoying. Shouldn’t be allowed to cheat by watching ads (gives you the best word and where to put it). ✓ Worse than previous Scrabble appWorse in most ways that matter, but better in some ways that don’t. 1) I don’t like that the board is now so SMALL! Why do I need to see the back of the other player’s tiles, at the expense of the size of the playing board? 2) You used to be able to see ALL the current games on the ONE screen as you played, with time of last move, current turn, scores etc. You could manage multiple plays at once, from the same screen. That’s gone. 3) You used to be able to form and test out words during the other player’s turn, to see whether all the words would be accepted; now you have to wait for their entire turn to finish before you try this, then waste their time and make them wait while you do so! 4) After every turn you have to click again to get back to the game because it offers you, after EVERY MOVE, all this other stuff. 5) You used to be able to try out words in a dictionary BEFORE playing them. That’s gone. 6) A 2-letter word list used to be one swipe away. Now it’s gone too. 7) Starting play now takes 30 seconds from opening the app, as well as extra clicks. 8) On starting up the app, you have to say every time if you don’t wish to log into Facebook, which is annoying... can’t this be set either way as a default via Settings? The rest is pretty minor, though I personally dislike the whole look of the app (lurid neon colors, kooky characters, etc). It would be good to be able to customise the aesthetics..Version: 1.23.2

I’ve been playing the old scrabble with my 91 year old mum for years and we’ve both really enjoyed it as a way to connect when we live a long way apart. ✓ Needlessly flashy, loaded with useless features.Long-time Scrabble player, this version is worse than that game where you cousin was drunk and resentful, and the cat scored a triple word bonus by vomiting on the board. This is a game which anyone who is remotely photosensitive needs to avoid- the excessively flashing graphics for the smallest thing will send anyone’s brain into a tailspin, and the game is programmed to light up like a Vegas Casino at every possible opportunity. ✓ Challenging games but too many ads.I have enjoyed playing this game as there are many options and levels of play. However, I can never seem to win unless I play an easy level. The opponent always seems to have better tiles and gets unbelievable scores. This gets a bit annoying after a while and play becomes BORING. The main issue I have is the endless advertisements that interrupt play and are so hard to escape from. They seem to be on an endless loop. I can handle a couple of ads but when you can “bake a cake” while waiting for the ads to end that is frustrating. It also makes you lose the thread of play. The app performs extremely poorly. Sometimes it takes several seconds to a touch to register. Level ups which are of no interest to scrabble players frequently pop up and takes about 30 seconds. End of every game is like a show and tell for about 30 seconds that cannot be bypassed. I understand that ads are necessary but the ads on this app are excruciatingly painful.. sometimes you have to Hit X multiple times to close the ad. The X are sometimes too small or placed close to the Get button so it results in accidentally go to the appstore to buy the app being advertised. This app freezes ALL THE TIME, either mid game, right when I open (with a black screen) or during an add which is the most frustrating. At first I thought it was just me but my cousin and mom both have the game and they experience it too. I have often found myself having to close the app to get it to work. My family and I have been so confused why some words are fine and others aren’t when they are correct entries. There has also been several times where I play a word that is most definitely an actual word (ex: “file” or “saving”) and the game doesn’t recognize it as a word. But when I close and reopen the game it’ll then recognize as such. Sometimes it won’t recognize it at all (but will recognize the words “Khi” or “za”). So it just gets annoying to play with such a bare bones app that barely seems to be developed. My advice: if you find a different but similar enough scrabble app; go with that one instead. ✓ Great for keeping in touch. Dire interface and game rulesI downloaded this as a way to keep I touch with my mother and sister whilst self isolating due to Coronavirus. We’ve all enjoyed playing scrabble in the past. From that perspective only, and the ensuing hilarity in messenger from the poor quality of the game, has this been a success! The issues: 1) Why can you only play scrabble against one friend at a time? We’re used to playing as a family (2 to 4 players) 2) The UK ‘dictionary’! Seriously what are they using? Not OED or even Cambridge. We are having great fun seeing what made up words it’s allowing. No idea where the definitions have come from ‘et’ = to Swallow something. Presumably they mean ‘eat’ or ‘ate’. There are also many non English words allowed. Ja means yes? I definitely ONLY have the English dictionary selected in settings 3) The app layout / game play. We just want to play scrabble with friends and family. It’s hard to find open / active games due to all the other rubbish going on that I really don’t care about. Have the stuff there for those that want it but the main feature should be the ability to play scrabble! 4) The rules. The game is allowing words which are defined as slang or proper nouns. These have never been allowed in a real game of scrabble. It should at least be possible to block these. Many of us have been playing another scrabble app which Mattel no longer supports and will be disappearing soon. It was excellent, just scrabble no ads. To be replaced with this. ✓ Multiple ads and spam in my emailI love Scrabble and initially enjoyed this game until the multiple ads started popping up. I understand the needs the ads, but when it’s the same ad that I am not allowed to click out of, or an ad where there is no way to click out of it until a certain amount of time and/or clicks happen, that’s when I get mad. Of the ads/apps that did not allow me to click out immediately, I promise I will never buy/play/add them. Annoying to the point of being infuriating. ✓ Another Scopely trashing of a loved gameUpdate: Recent changes have done nothing to address the single player mode. The ability level of the AI player is MORONIC. And after every play you’re blitzed with moronic power ups or offers to play different games. Surely if you had a good engaging game your customer/player wouldn’t want to change. All of which obscures your tiles and challenges your focus on THE GAME which you’re trying to play. Still 1 star. Just like Yahtzee Scopely have come along and turned a quiet thoughtful game into a jarring screaming mess of social chaos. The levels, bonuses, play limits, adverts, illusory friends are IMHO godawful. I just wanted to play against a computer opponent that plays quickly, well and accepts success and failure without comment, and requires zero commitment from me and no penalty for quitting when I feel like it. ✓ Game is great but ads are ridiculousThe games and variations of Scrabble on this app are great. There’s a challenge for every level of player. However, the weekly cost is excessive, so for some of us - that means watching the ads. That was bearable, but now they have them over the actual scoring on games. I should also note that I had previously paid for the old version of the scrabble app, then they upgraded it, decommissioned the old app, and wanted us all to pay again - but this time significantly more. ✓ Problems During Prize GivingI picked this app up because on FB, there was a lull with making the updates. I noticed with this app on my tablet, there isn’t a problem when rejecting the prize to go to the next game and to avoid the ads. But when you decide to accept the prize, all of a sudden there is a pop up declaring that something is wrong with the system. Ok, but what is the alternative? Will I get a chance later? Is there a cancellation prize for the inconvenience? Nope. You have to forfeit the prize. Isn’t it funny, nothing is wrong with the system when the same ads come on over and over and over again between games? To the creators, if you are interested in making the game less annoying: when playing the mini word games within (like the trophy game and bayou), the player should have a choice whether to use all of his/her tickets or not. The player shouldn’t be forced to spend his/her coins if there is a ticket left. Did you really design the game to see if you could control one’s spending? I did notice that when I used my tickets and had 101 coins to start off, at the end of playing 4 games and spending 5 coins per continuance, I saw I had 72 coins left. How? ✓ Worse advertising than Words (aka Words With Friends)I though Words Classic and Words 2 (now pretty much the same game app) was really bad. I wouldn’t have imagined that a game licensed to use the original board game Scrabble like be worse (or any game could be worse with advertising). But Scrabble or ‘Scrabble Go’ is quite a lot worse with advertising. Not only that, they try push their copy of Words called Scrabble Go on users getting on board looking for something closer to classic Scrabble. To make matters worse, the opponents it matched me with in the more classic Scrabble mode only played a a bunch of round and then gave up. And I make a point of not cheating or using power-ups. So I tried playing the classic version against the computer, starting on ‘Hard’ mode. There are two harder levels above this. Whilst for some of the game(s) it played like a relatively advanced player, when I won more than two games in a row, it would start coming up with reductions 7 letter word jackpots using words for rare medications that only specialist scientists and doctors might know. The programmers of its algorithms not smart enough to come up with more realistic strategies, so using it’s obvious limitless dictionary access to win. So I give this ridiculous attempt at a come back of the board game combined (stupidly) as a competitor with Words two thumbs down. ✓ Deliberately circumvents Apples’ rulesThis scrabble game is awful. Full of horrible adult rated ads and pointless promotion of ridiculous bonuses when all I want to do is play scrabble. But my biggest grievance is how it circumvents apples rules on app behaviour. You can’t just close this app like all apps on iOS. You have to double swipe up. ✓ SurrealThis is surreal , to say the least. Looks like a bizarre comic book. The game is there - buried in amongst a bunch of new games, rewards, offers to purchase ‘gems’, boosters, and a ton of bright colours, cartoon characters and fairy floss so it takes a while to find and play because of constant interruptions by the ads, rewards and pictures of players. There is also a function for other players to communicate directly. Within 24 hours there was one player, sending messages - asking for my email address, 10 in rapid succession, that made them sound insane, to say the least, scary & too personal. If people actually fork emails or other details over I hate to think what that player does with it. Uninstalled about 3 minutes after that exchange. Tried to report to Scopely, got automated responses, requests for more information, and the necessity to lodge in-game. It would be tough to find in amongst that fairy floss, & I uninstalled so I’ll leave that. Technical issues, a scoreboard glitch mid game where the score fluctuates sometimes and numbers change quickly from low to high for about a minute. After it settled I wasn’t sure if that was my score. The VIP subscription offered seems to be for nothing but to remove ads and a few other worthless functions like gems to change tile colours. ✓ Scrabble Go Go Gone!This could be a good app, but there are too many annoying features: (1) All the infuriating rewards that you are forced to take and do not intend to use. I don’t want a pretty ribbon round my icon. I don’t want different frickin tiles. I just want to play Scrabble. Give me a way of opting out. (2) The adverts are horrendous. I get it. You need to make this pay and I, and I suspect many others, don’t want to pay fir the ad free version, it’s pretty expensive! But why do Allie such pain in the neck ads that (a) play for ages (b) require endless clicks to dismiss them (c) try and hide the exit buttons and (d) try and trick you onto the web or App Store. Namely - why make people go to their inbox and individually accept every reward earned?! Just add the rewards automatically! ✓ No chance to playUnfortunately I cannot use this app at all. I am one of those who wants to simply play a game of Scrabble against the computer apponent and I'm not able to do so - why? Because you have to be online to use this app. With the EA version of the game it has been possible to play as much as I like, when I like; with this version of the game it's not even possible to load the app - let alone play it - offline. Much like others who have written a review of this version, I don't want bells and whistles, I just want to play the game of Scrabble, when I want to, and against the computer. I don't play online as there were too many times when the old game kicked me off due to the online players taking longer to play that I wanted and I lost due to losing connection to the servers. ✓ Horrible.....butI am right there with all the critics. I love the EA Scrabble App that is dying on June 1st. BUT, when I put on my business hat, I think I know what happened. Think about the nominal one-time fee we paid for the EA Scrabble App and played for years as the programmers made improvements, fixed glitches and grappled with IOS update changes to our devices. So, rather than charge us for continuation of the GOOD app, which they knew would have been met with uproarious outrage, they decided to kill it. Emerging in its place was the Scrabble GO monstrosity which, in order to charge money making monthly fees and mechanism to spend more for diamonds along the way, necessarily had to justify itself with all the glitz, glamour and silliness to appeal to a larger audience including children. Folks, it was a money making economic decision. Sorry, simple profit motive and greed at work here. Meanwhile, a true classic game suffers. How many of us would be willing to pay $4.95 a month to restore the EA game? I bet a lot, given the alternative. ✓ Where’s Teacher?I have had to move to this Scrabble Go after the Scrabble I used to play was cancelled. Whilst this one is only just ok, it is nowhere as user friendly. Some of the options had a little 1d or 30m in the corner so they were clearly for short periods. The $7.99 pack didn’t have any of those so naturally I thought that was to get rid of ads for good. ✓ Ads make game hang upIf i am trying to have a duel and the game can’t locate an opponent for me, it closes me completely out of the app, and it takes about 40 seconds to open back into the app when that happens. Trying to play duels is also extremely frustrating if you aren’t willing to pay to go ad-free. The candy crush ad for example won’t let me X out (I have waited as long ad 90 seconds for the x to appear) but if I press “play free” to get it over with it takes me to the crush app download so apparently you have to download candy crush before you can play another scrabble duel. Or you can just close out of scrabble go and come here to give scrabble go a poor review because so many ads crash the app. Also it is Hard to figure out why they keep delaying play time to award trophies, which don’t seem to mean anything as far as rewarding you with a better experience. If anything, I seem to get a higher number of vowel-free boards as I gain trophies. ✓ Terrible all aroundThere is really nothing to like about this app. The ridiculous bells and whistles that distract and detract have been written about by nearly every reviewer. In addition, I object to the tiny board with tiles so small I can’t read their scores and an automatic scoring aid that I also need to get out reading glasses to decipher. Luckily I’ve been playing all my life so I can add the scores in my head but other Scrabble apps had no issue here. More annoying is the tile bag. The EA game (which was reliably unreliable but so much better than this mess of an app) had a running count of how many letters left in the game. The “tile bag” option here tells you this as well as what letters are left! I find that an extremely obnoxious cheat. I’m also tired of getting notices on my phone that “Kelly” or whomever is waiting for me to play. I do not appreciate my name and photo getting shared with random strangers. I get more notices about stuff like this than I do the actual notices of my real friends/opponents taking their turns. This app really stinks and I beg Scopely to provide a Classic Scrabble version that cuts the cartoon crap, removes the social networking prompts, removes cheat prompts (swap tiles for free?!?), and restores the board and tile bag counter to normal. ✓ Absolutely awful!I wouldn’t play this version if there was an alternative way of playing Scrabble with distant friends. Although it says you can play the classic game, it still gives you a whole lot of unnecessary ‘features’ which slow the games up. I paid for an ad-free version originally, but that’s disappeared and I’m bombarded with ads at every turn, some of which partly obscure the game screen so you can’t read the scores. The in-game ads just slow things up because you have to close the app to get out of the ad screen. The game itself is slow and glitchy and The developer doesn’t respond to queries or complaints. And the icing on the cake is the the spelling mistake on the Scopely front page, which drives me crazy!.Version: 1.51.0
✓ A few issuesI absolutely love playing scrabble, I’d say it’s definitely the best scrabble game app in terms of the neat layout and no lagging etc. However, the cons outweigh the pros. 1) WAY TOO MANY ADS. 2) Random, unnecessary and annoying treasure chests. 3) Constantly have to claim rewards from you’re inbox instead of automatically receiving them. Firstly, the flipping ads! After every move you make, a 20-30 second ad pops up that you can’t skip. Also, some of these ads require you to press play so they are making sure you’re not just sitting there not looking at the ad. When you click the x button off some of the ads, another one will play straight after and you have to wait for that one as-well. I’m not being funny but how many times do I need to see an ad for “gardenscapes”? I’m literally not interested, if you’re going to flash the ads every two seconds, at least switch them up. Another issue that I find strange is the fact that you have some sort of music book as part of the winning rewards etc, as you play scrabble games you will acquire cards that are put into a treasure chest. I find this a really bizarre rewarding mechanism and completely unnecessary and time consuming. Also, if you do win other rewards such as diamonds or coins - be sure to constantly check your inbox to claim the rewards instead of just automatically receiving them..Version: 1.71.0

✓ Kindergarten stuffTerrible implementation of scrabble. Its one redeeming feature is that it is handy to have feedback of the score and validity of a word as you place the tiles. Its drawbacks however are too many. The game keeps crashing: maybe I have played it twenty times or so and at some point it has crashed at least once each game. The simple concept of the previous version has been overridden by lots of childish rewards and levels. The game is obsessed with sharing on social media. I just want to play scrabble against the computer. There is no way I have found of changing the level at which the computer opponent plays so I almost inevitably win unlike the old version where playing at Advanced was a genuine challenge. I am uninstalling this and reverting to the old version for as long as possible. If that app is withdrawn I might just get a handheld dedicated scrabble game rather than put up with this. ✓ Junk!Perhaps this game appeals to a different demographic, but not me. At one time I actually chose my phone based on whether I could play the official classic Scrabble game. I do not want to play a word game that doesn’t use the official classic Scrabble board so I am trying to adapt to to this unnecessarily flashy game. Not sure if I speak for other classic players, but I miss the teacher and playing against multiple computer opponents. Per co-CEO Ferreira in an interview with GamesBeat, “There will be features that allow you to have a richer and deeper single-player experience” over the next 3-9 months. Sooner would be better as it seems many classic players aren’t sticking around to find out what the future will bring. Single-player experience is what I used in the classic EA/Hasbro game. I have never wanted to play live so now I am left with poor Zoey. It does seem that Zoey “learns” because her scores have improved after several rounds; she’s doing much better than her posted average score of 16. Also, at one time long ago there was an option for “duplicate” play. With this option, both the computer and me had the same letters. ✓ TerribleBring the old scrabble back. I don’t want to earn XP, there is no proper dictionary to use and I can’t seem to get rid of the number “3” in the corner of the app for notifications. ✓ Scrabble goI love playing word games and I added this to my collection. It’s probably the most glitchy and annoying app I’ve ever owned. The usual negatives are there, many non human players, complicated home page, too many choices of games to get involved with. No chat from ‘human’ players. The amount of times I’ve asked my opponent if they’re real people without a response. The load times and freezing mid game is irritating. BUT the thing that ruins this app is the continuous ads. Between EVERY move. There is inevitably no consistency in play. There’s no choice to make a one off payment to purchase the app add free, you have to subscribe and pay monthly. That’s a rip off. I’ll still continue to play as I enjoy the concept but ww friends is much slicker and ad free (although it’s regularly mistaken for a dating site). ✓ Crashes regularlyI’ve enjoyed playing scrabble with this app - it’s a good implementation of the game. There are different variations too - short duels, word play tournament arenas, scrabble challenges to draw you to different parts of the app. The problem is that the app keeps crashing - regularly! It happens when after changing modes from, say, duels to an arena. It happens mid-duel and you lose your game. It happens so often in fact that you start to play in short sets & restart the app if you don’t want to bail out of a tournament arena or duel because of a crash. The ads become intrusive too & contribute to the crashing. It’s a context switching problem which mars an otherwise good app..Version: 1.24.2
✓ Better match matchingI would give you guys five stars. But it's the matchmaking that irritates me the most; I'm sick and tired of it recommending players to play against when they're not even online to play. The first time I was in a tournament (which was recommended by the computer by the way), I made the first move, and the person I was paired with didn't play for three days, so I forfeited the match. Then I traded a second time, and the person the computer matched me up at least made the first move before disappearing for two days. so far this has happened four times so that’s four matches I had to forfeit from before someone telling me that if the person doesn’t play don’t forfeit the computer will automatically make them the loser depending on who has the highest or lowest score… if this is why the truth why did I sit there for three days I had a way higher score than the other person you guys need to add a sleep or away button or something. To be honest, I don’t care for board games. I hate them. I don’t have the patience for them, and these people are a clear example of why I don’t play with others online and would rather play solo matches or against the computer. ✓ AppallingThis is appalling. I just want to play Scrabble with the classic board and no extras. The screen is full of stupid meaningless ‘rewards’, other games and really annoying graphics. It’s cluttered and confusing. Bring back the original. I have discovered I need to mute all games with blokes because there are so many creeps just there to latch on. Bring back the auto mute and give the option of unmuting. The word suggestions are dumb. They don’t come up with the best one and the best word option is intermittent. Don’t need the cheat one and would like to check what the best play is each time after I have played, not before. I want the original proper Scrabble rules to apply, not be provided with cheat words. ✓ Awful for all of these reasons…1) My experience with the game so far indicates that most to all of the players I’ve played against are actually bots. It has made for very poor play. 2) About 40% of the time I use this app it not only freezes, it freezes my entire device locking my screen and preventing me from doing anything for several seconds, including closing the app or turning my device off. 2) There are so many distractions getting in the way of actually playing a game on this app it has become incredibly annoying to use. As much as I enjoy Scrabble I can barely stand playing the game on account of how irritating it is to use this app. 3) EVERY TIME I wish to play (increasingly little) I am prompted to log in through Facebook. The app designers so clearly prefer that option to “anonymous” play they first make the “anonymous” selection more challenging to see (approximately 50% of the size of the Facebook option above it, and made so faint as to be practically invisible) AND even include a cartoon character which frowns upon one having made the choice to play anonymously. ✓ If it’s not broke don’t fix it!Scrabble is decades old and loved by millions, why do all this nonsense! Magic chests, pointless gems, cheats. The biggest annoyance is that the game is rigged so that you have to buy gems to change letters. Gems allow you to change letters without missing a turn (in other words CHEAT) in order to make you buy gems you will continually be dealt awful letter combinations. If you do change letters properly without using gems and missing a go, you will be given equally awful letters back. I have played for years and would average over 400 a game and normally get 2 bingos a game. 15games into this and I am averaging 300 and only have 1 bingo. Be prepared for continual awful letters every time you play, and if you swap out vowels or constants you will get the same back. Please just give us back normal scrabble rather than this stupid imitation of a game aimed solely at the snowflake generation who need instant gratification in the form of gems and treasure chests. ✓ Pretty bummedHi scopely I’m glad I still have access to the old scrabble. Tbh this is just all around weird to market scrabble like this. If you want to attract real scrabble players then please have a version that is the same as the ea one. Namely, the ability to look up a word if it’s not your turn or in play, and the teacher should always be free, not free for a little while. Honestly that was such a turn off. ✓ Messaging friendsIt is so annoying when you make a spelling error and you don’t have a cursor to go back to where the mistake is to correct it.. grrrrrr... you have to delete the whole sentence to where the mistake is and retype the word again!! ✓ STILL NOT FOR THE SERIOUS PLAYERThey completely wrecked the game for adult players. Now in the latest version there a new "Scrabble Classic" mode which is to supposedly improve playability. It is an improvement that gives me a glimmer of hope. Maybe if they keep trying... but the developers just don’t “get it" and they may never at this rate. The game board is still too small. Even in Scrabble Classic mode the game still throws endless annoying bonus points and treasure chests at you with a series of bothersome screens that you cannot escape from. ELO rankings are still missing. Supposedly there is a choice of dictionaries now. However I couldn’t find them. I would gladly pay again for this game (one time pmt) if only they could remove all distracting annoyances and provide the essential features. In ADDITION to ruining the online game the developers are also deceiving the public. First, as others have pointed out, the thousands and thousands of 5 star ratings with no reviews are clearly bogus. Apple should crack down on this and not let them game the system like this. Second, the "random opponents" feature is clearly AI opponents and not real people as is clearly implied. ✓ Too Many FaultsIf you don’t waste money purchasing gems I guess the game is ok. If you do spend money, more fool you. Too many faults which the creators don’t fix and if you bother to contact them, they do not respond. Latest issues with the duels games. With 2 wins to go to the ultimate prize you win by a league and move on to the next game to win the final chest. Actually no, because the game decides you didn’t win the last game and must wait 6 hours before playing again unless you want to pay 70 gems. This has happened several times. Then the screen will freeze while the timers counting down and by the time it unfreezes you’ve run out of time and your opponent wins. Oh and another 6 hour wait to play again. Or you play the first word and are waiting for your new letters to drop to creat the next word but it gives you back the letters you just played. ✓ The good and the bad.The good: No ads! This is a great thing for a free app. The board is big and the style and format is good. There’s a number or different games to play too. The bad: Unless you have gems or you purchase them, you can’t progress a level in a Duels match. Sometimes you have to wait 14 hours for a ‘free’ turn. That’s the same with the tournaments which you need tickets to play. You can’t get the tickets unless you play the games and you can’t play the games unless you have the gems. ✓ Keeps freezing and crashingThis is the worst app I have ever encountered for freezing and crashing. As other players have said they also keep deleting scores, rewards etc. I would never pay for gems etc. but for people that do then deleting them would constitute theft! All I want to do is play Scrabble, but they keep adding more stupid gimmicks such as tiles and cards, and the more they add the worse the app gets. Stop the gimmicks and prioritise the reliability of the app. UPDATE: I have reported the above issues on here, also to customer service on the app and via the survey they sent and still it constantly freezes and crashes (it’s definitely not a problem with my device as other games work perfectly). Clearly they only want the advertisement income and are not interested in customer satisfaction. FURTHER UPDATE: Despite reporting the issue of disappearing gems and rewards on numerous occasions over many months it still keeps happening. ✓ AwfulI dislike this app so much but it is now the only way I can play scrabble with my overseas family since the the old scrabble app has stopped working. ✓ Bring back the old App!!I love scrabble. I have used the app to play against my mum (300 miles away) in lockdown but it is dreadful. The very first version was great. You just played against an opponent or 3 computers. Simple graphics. No ads. This latest version is awful. Everytime you play a word there is an ad. They change the tiles repeatedly as if this is the main purpose of scrabble. You’ll be in the middle of something and suddenly a pop up appears ‘Geoff wants to play’. I don’t want to play with Geoff. I would have no problem paying to get rid of all the stupid ads and pop ups but there is no option to do that. And I have over 600 coins but have no idea what the point of them is. ✓ WHY?Two things before my review - One, technically this game works smoothly, that was technically and the reason for a star. Two, I encourage you to try it and if you truly love the real Scrabble experience you should write to Mattel or Hasbro or who ever manages the branding of Scrabble and encourage them to remake just a Scrabble game like we have at home on our boards. Why do we need so many bells and whistles on a game that was perfectly fine. It not only is distraction from the actual goal of scrabble -which is to play a game with words against friends, but it cheapens the overall game of Scrabble. As far as I’m concerned whilst there might have been the occasional bug, in the old format, this is a very backwards step. I also find that it will start a game because I hit the wrong part of the screen whilst going to tap elsewhere. I am most unhappy and feel that it would be better to go to words with friends which i prefer over this roadcrash of an experience. ✓ Bring back option for classic scrabble!There are many silly options for potential gamers to pursue bonus points and buy their way to victory with hints and switches and tips. Why take over a classic beloved game that has been around long enough that there are game championships and followings and even a designated dictionary made for it? Shame on hasbro and scopely for destroying the ability of anyone who cares about the game to have the option to play it the way it was meant to be played. ✓ 2 stars for reliability but 5 stars for gameI’m writing this review today, because I am heavily addicted to this game. A couple of colleagues also play of mine, but not really anyone else. The one day I have a few mates wanting to play (they took me up on the game suggestion) and the game freezes up on loading. I am quite honestly, completely miserable. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted the iPad, updated the iPad, restarted again, re-deleted the app again, turned off then re downloaded the app, and the dang thing still freezes on the green scrabble page before my profile comes up. Very very sad. Very annoyed. Especially since today is the first day my friends want to play. So only two stars for reliability and that’s being pretty nice about it. ✓ Scrabble Go a disasterWhat a letdown this app is. So many ads and an exorbitant monthly amount to get rid of them. Wouldn’t mind a one off payment. Every few turns the app closes down so you have to start all over again or the screen just goes black so you have to start all over again. Either way it puts you off bothering to play. Problem is there is no longer a decent scrabble game available like the old version, where you can just play a normal game with friends. Don’t need duels, or men looking for a relationship! ✓ Chaotic and infested with adsThe actual game interface is pretty good ... if you can find it. There is so much junk on the page, so many rewards and extraneous stuff that you quickly get lost. 0/10 for design. Worse still are the ads that you cannot close. ✓ I love OG Scrabble but this app is terribleLike other reviewers have said, the developers have taken a brilliant game and made it terrible with all the ads, gems, chests, “prizes”, videos etc. I just had to click “no thanks” 4 consecutive times, to a page which was offering me prizes in exchange for watching a video. It might have been more than 4, and there were ads on top of this too. It makes it very boring having to waste your time on these things. You can’t even buy an ad free version, like other iOs games offer. Instead you can subscribe £5 a month to play the game without ads, which works out to £60 a year, not worth it. Even then you would still have all the terrible add ons like prizes, gems etc which nobody here seems to want. They should simplify and go back to the old EA game which many of us loved and happily paid for back in the day. There are many other word games on iOS you can play which are less irritating. ✓ Keep it simpleI think the developers have forgotten this is not a child’s game, we don’t want stupid cards we are not 5 years old. If you must set the game up like we are kids then please give us an opt out to play a straight game with just gems and tickets to earn. ✓ Very annoying!I have played this game for years and until recently was more pleasure than annoyance. I was never a great fan of all the gimmicks that they have added in to the basic game but that doesn’t matter. Over time the adverts have become longer and more aggressive and ended up getting so bad that they rendered the game unplayable. A banner across the top of my screen would not go away and effectively removed the ability to see scores, to close one game and open another, or to access settings or chat. I had to close the app, double click the home screen and remove it before reopening it and hopefully beating the ads. This has forced me to abandon the games and friends that I have made through this app. I see no other explanation for this than an attempt at shameless extortion to try and force me to pay a monthly subscription to remove the advertising. The game itself is sometimes irritating as I have often had good words in the Oxford Dictionary that it won’t allow because of their inferior dictionary. ✓ Just like classic Scrabble....Except you can earn rewards. Which we can all agree was the biggest thing missing from the old board game. And you can “level up”. Which is something I was writing to Hasbro about for years. “Hasbro, why does this exceptionally simple and perfectly executed board game not allow me to level up and earn rewards?” I guess they finally heard me. Oh, also, if you are looking for one of the games you might be playing, it’s actually not easy to find. It’s like a frustrating little adventure where each time you want to play, you have to brush aside all the different things the app is trying to get you to do other than just playing your existing games with your family and friends. Neat! I am so thrilled to be able to see how people on my Facebook friends list are achieving their various high score dreams. I remember before this if I wanted to know what an acquaintances highest score in Scrabble was, I had to write a letter and wait for them to pen their reply. ✓ Beware of your Gems disappearing.This app is not very clear in how it works. Your gems can vanish if you don’t know what is happening during this app’s tournament.. the staff cannot help you to restore your gems at all. I was shocked to see my Gem score crash to almost nothing without warning by this App’s various tournaments. Because this is an App covering the whole world population don’t expect each match to be played to the end on the same day... some days your opponent does not play a single turn.. there’s no obligation for them to play straightway. Do not believe this App’s Leaderboard scoring. It does not reflect your score for scrabble only. The ridiculous score of more than millions points for the leader on the board is not from scrabble at all.. my experience is I beat these leaders but that never shows on the leaderboard at all. The staff are polite and nice according to the company policy but can’t help you when you make innocent mistakes. I rate this App very low. ✓ Great potential but a few probsI enjoyed this game for a few months, ignoring bells and whistles which are completely unnecessary, until one day adds started popping up when I wanted to do a free swamp. I decided to try the app, add free for a week and purchase it at $7.99 a month if I liked the format. ✓ Glitchy and could be betterOverall great game. Really addicted to it. I’d say the most annoying thing about this game is the incessant advertising and £4.99/month subscription to get rid of them. Glitches: Recently I was unable to open a crate reward. For example, in duels, I earned a crate and all I got was the spinning square - no reward. This is annoying and it is unclear if I got the rewards or not. Another time, in my inbox, I had a few crates to open and I couldn’t open any. Even after clicking on them they remained in my inbox and I couldn’t get rid of them. Another glitch, occasionally I can still see a tile from my rack in front of the “more games” banner which pops up after you play. No biggie but should be fixed. Suggestions: Having cool tiles is great. But when you play them they magically turn into normal tiles. I think it would be cooler if they remained as the special tiles on the board like in words with friends. Lower the subscription price. £4.99/month is ridiculous. It boosts your scrabble score which seems unfair and makes the game more “pay to win” than it already is. Please add more frames as well as tiles! ✓ They killed the straight forward scrabble appThis new Scrabble Go app is killing the standard Scrabble app in June. This new app is full of clutter and gems and dozens of confusing menu options that no older Scrabble fan will care about or understand. Some of us paid for the no ad version of the standard scrabble app but now this new app is taking that away. I’ve played thousands of matches and can tell you from their Facebook profile pictures that it’s at least 75% older ladies that play online. This was a very disrespectful thing to do to those of them who relied on the old Scrabble app to play, forcing them to use this garbage instead. It’s these older fans that have kept Scrabble popular throughout the years and this new app is a big middle finger to all of them. It has 20 different ways to play and more games and options pop up while I’m playing. There are challenges and “prizes” to be won. I paid for the old version to get rid of ads and popups. This version has so many distracting popups - it constantly tells me I earned some points, leveled up, might want to use a cheat that I might was to pay for. The game stops to show me things I don’t care about. No. I want nice, quiet, scrabble. I loved the option where I could play the computer against multiple computer opponents. Playing against “Zoey” is not the same, or even enjoyable. Zoey tries to teach me how to play. This version works hard to get me to play against other humans, but I really like to pick up a game and play a few turns, then go away for the rest of the day. That’s no good when playing another person. Honestly though, the worst, after each move, there is a popup screen trying to get me to start a game with yet another person. This game is annoying. ✓ Too many scammersI like the game and the arena. Climbing the ladder through different divisions. The tumblers are probably my favorite. My biggest problem is this game is FULL of scammers. People using fake pictures, wanting to chat and giving some fake sob story then wanting you to go to hangouts or other apps so they can ask/beg for money. I complained MANY times and none were removed. There were using pictures like Joe Cross who is commonly used by scammers, and using a different name. I proved it over and over and the players were allowed to continue. Absolutely no protection whatsoever. There say they can’t tell you the result of the investigation but if I continue to see the player active, I know nothing was done. I’ve come and gone on this game many times because there are things I like about it. But within a day a scammer will hit and it aggravates me that I can’t play and enjoy. I can block and other things but if I report they should be removed to prevent them from scamming others. I leave quickly every time because of that. Maybe one day there will be enough protection for legitimate players to play and enjoy the game. Until then, beware of anyone chatting with you. Especially if they want to leave this game to chat. ✓ Ruined a great gameThe EA Scrabble was a near-perfect simulation of real-life Scrabble, but I guess that’s not what runs the mobile economy. This version of Scrabble, even after being toned down because of complaints, is nearly unplayable. Its design is busy and full of flashing things and motion and cartoon characters—basically nothing you want when you’re trying to concentrate on a game of scrabble. It makes you wait through insipid ads after every turn. Then, inexplicably, it also makes you wait while the computer decides what to play. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for this delay except to annoy you. The game also tries to funnel you into Facebook-based play. It makes it unnecessarily hard for you to return to a game you’ve paused. And don’t get me started on the jewel-based economy that they really want you to join (which I have no interest in trying). A couple of times, the ads have gone haywire and shut down my iPad. On the bright side, that meant I no longer had to play the game. I was happy to pay money to play the EA Scrabble. ✓ So. Many. Ads!I don’t normally mind ads in games. I use the time to give my eyes a break from the screen. However there’s an ad after every word, which is way too many. Some ads are hard to click out of. The Home Screen is confusing. Many different versions to play eg against friends/random players, get to certain score, events etc. All I want to do is play a simple game vs either a random or the computer. I downloaded after seeing a word search-type ad, which is only unlocked after reaching level 10. Lots of prizes that are completely unnecessary eg card collections. Do not care at all about those. Game can also be slow to respond when trying to play a word. I like the automatic feature telling you if your word is valid or not as you’re playing. ✓ Horrible junk ads, disrespectful, $100 for no ads!Since this company took over the rights to Scrabble it has gone from bad to horrible. The basic game is fine (and that's what we want). There are way too many extra games, chests, and other treasures that are not needed - but I can look past those. What is most annoying are the ads and the way they are served. There are WAY TOO many, most are junk scams (play Bingo and win thousands). Also the ads don't respect mute - mute the game but the ads play sounds. Also a number of ads have no way to get you back to the game so you have to kill the game and start again. And some ads that do offer an "X" to close and go back...hide the "x" so you do't see it. Very sleezy. Lastly - I don't want notifications on and every week or so it gives a pop-up asking if I want notifications turned on. That's disrespectful and this game is an insult to a real scrabble player. Finally - there is an option to pay for no ads but the cost is ridiculous! It works out to about $100 / year. ✓ Scrabble with inappropriate adsYes this is scrabble. Be prepared to put up with myriad ads unless you’re willing to pay £4.99 a month. However today a titillating little app came on. Can’t remember its name but seems you can move a screen over a clothed girl’s body to reveal what’s underneath. I accept that there is far worse on the internet but I do not need this while playing a word game. Nor do any children playing. Take the ad off. Update as it appears I didn’t send the above review. Gave up playing for a while because of the ads. Now trying again only to find some ads are either a black screen with ghastly music playing and there’s no way to get out of it or you can’t actually get off the idiotic ad screen because you end up in an endless loop. Further update. Now the Adventures game is locked. I’m stuck on level 49 and the game won’t even start. Update March 2022. The game is now not playing the correct rules ffs. It should give the opponent’s unused letter points to the person who uses all their tiles first regardless of whether they’ve won or not. ✓ AwfulThis is like having to walk through a garish money grabbing casino just to get to what is known throughout the world as a peaceful board game which once you have bought it you just get to play. i am aghast. the developer seems to be responding to comments by saying this is still being developed so hopefully it will be rethought design wise. some of the things that are particularly annoying are: (1) finding existing games is not at all obvious when surely that should be front and centre (2) i know there is classic mode but seriously? this still allows things like a free tile swap without missing a go, or it did yesterday. that isn’t in the rules of scrabble so what’s classic about that? (3) no official comparative rating like the old app (4) why not just have standard computer opponents eg easy hard expert etc. nowhere to find these so i don’t know what i’m getting (5) how do i play this where there is no signal given it only works online? eg subway? the old app has this but i guess this would interfere with all the nonsense so that is clearly being prioritised over the basic game features (6) i don’t care about gems can’t i just switch them off - they aren’t in the scrabble set box i own. ✓ Why is there so much crap on this app!?Bring back the old app, or charge me $25 to get rid of all the crap, all we want is to play Scrabble. I’m not sure you are aware of your core audience, especially now that we are all stuck at home with nothing to do. I don’t need to be rewarded, or collect anything. I like the average word score to help match evenly. But most of the other rating stuff makes no sense. Also, why is challenge not an option? Why can’t we turn of the green and red “word” indicator? It’s basically cheating/fishing for words. The game should let you play any word and you should be able to challenge.......you know......like SCRABBLE!?!? Put down a fake word, lose a turn!?! ✓ Terrible killing of a classicI’m at an absolute loss to see that this game which has replaced the old app has completely killed off a classic. Whilst the game still has the original, it is confused by endless pop ups, gems, tile collections and so on. Why have the makers deliberately bypassed the older generation who just want a simple game of scrabble to play with friends or against the computer? The answer is easy - the selfish and greedy pursuit of money. I can no longer download the old app, which I paid good money for. Surely this is basic theft? I used the old app to reach out to my mother of 80 years old on a daily basis who lives hundreds of miles away. She simply cannot understand the endless pop ups and tournaments and has decided not to play anymore. We are devastated. Don’t be fooled by the developer responses on here. This is a plain case of producer sovereignty using the license monopoly they have to force consumers into a game they don’t want to play and to delete the original app that they paid good money for. ✓ Oh the pain you have to suffer to enjoy a great gameApril 2021. A further update. I gave up, there are too many bugs, infuriating adverts, ‘prizes’ not delivered. This an update. The game has been updated and I cannot get it to load. It freezes my iPad and despite rebooting 3 times it still freezes. So, despite an odd commercial policy, infuriating adverts after every go, the game has stopped functioning - time to delete I think. This is a shame because it has some good elements I am enjoying the game a lot but not the mindless add ons and so called ‘prizes’. I would pay to be rid of the but the monthly fee is far too high(£4.49). Surely the developer would get more purchases with a realistic subscription and/or offer some of the subscription benefits at a lower price. ✓ Continual problems on iPhone 7Every once in a while, the app gets to the point where it’s doing so much processing of some kind that my phone gets hot and it will drain my entire battery in about 1 hour of use. At those times, it’s also crashing and I will have to restart it numerous times. During those periods, it’s also stalling to the point where I try to move a tile and it gets stuck in mid air for 15 seconds, then if I’m lucky it unfreezes, but lots of times it will freeze for closer to 30 seconds before exiting. In these periods of my worst problems, I have restarted my iPhone, completely deleted the app, reinstalled the app, and sometimes it will give me some relief from the problems for a few more days or a week, then get back into the same pattern again. The game interface itself is just fine and I love Scrabble, so I always try to push through these problems, but I think the app has some major bugs that need to be fixed. Perhaps it is just not tested anymore on the older iPhones, and has evolved beyond being stable on old versions. I don’t know, but it’s really frustrating!.Version: 1.44.1

This replacement is an abomination to anyone who seriously just enjoys a game of Scrabble with a friend. I loathe the colours, the jewels, the chests and all the silly games that are based on scrabble tiles but not Scrabble. You can buy things with your jewels? That is nothing to do with Scrabble. The ads are awful and I find I have to pay £4.99 a month to avoid them. What a joke! I paid £5.99 (I think) for my EA app years ago and that gave me no ads and the Teacher function which I hardly ever use but is nice if I want to do it. I do not need the internet to play it and can play against the computer in the car which I liked. I could go on and on and on but I think it is probably pointless. After all the developers think that people will pay £60 a year to use this app without ads and to belong to the Scrabble Club. ✓ BOTS posing as real peopleI enjoyed this game (looking past the horrendous UI and really intrusive “gems” pop-ups) for about five minutes, before I got suspicious of the other players. They would play within seconds of their turn starting, their photos looked like stock photos, and they never seemed to try very hard or made use of the extra point tiles. I looked their names up online, and it turns out they’re all just bots. I joined to play with real people, not bots. I’ve deleted the game. I wish I hadn’t wasted my time on it in the first place..Version: 1.23.2
✓ Good but battery drain and too much going onIt’s scrabble. If you’re into scrabble it is fine to play. However it constantly nags about linking to Facebook and I mean constantly. There are lots of mini games and power ups so if you like that sort of thing then go for it. Not fussed about them myself. Plenty of bot players to pass the time with and fun to play against real people. The biggest gripe is the battery consumption. It is terrible. ✓ This version is awful!!Some years ago I paid hard earned money for the scrabble app - it was simple, nicely designed, classic scrabble, with a chat function, perfect! Now I find that app gone and is replaced by this free version, with adverts and so many side games it’s difficult to see the actual game of scrabble. First you have to get past the wall of login which practically forces you to use Facebook, then you have to figure out which of the many flashing, jumping things is a game of scrabble. I don’t know about anyone else but with all this going on my phone is hot and sluggish, struggling to cope with the animated host and the ads and pop ups. On the old app I used to enjoy playing a scrabble game and having a chat with my mum, it was a way of keeping in touch for us. Now she can’t even figure out how to join a game I’ve started. And to cap it all, for some reason now it has simply stopped working, the active games I have going are not accessible, I click them and nothing. ✓ Horrible user experience — get it together, Scrabble!I really wanted to like this app; I love scrabble and would play it with friends all the time if I could. But this app is so incredibly and frustratingly disappointing! There are so many ads; some after games, after single turns, after checking a different part of the menu… I tried to buy “no ads” but they only allowed me a few DAYS without them (a total rip off!). Friends of mine described the app as “literal cancer” and it makes me guilty that I even suggested the app in the first place. Scrabble, do better! ✓ Frustrating and data heavyOkay, there’s one positive - being able to play scrabble remotely. Otherwise, this app chews through data, cooks your phone, makes you watch countless wasted hours of ads and is full of computer-generated opponents which stack your hand to be vowel-rich unless you watch more ads in order to get a free tile swap. In addition, there are a pile of less- savvy computerised opponents who all date from August 2019 and then a bunch of entitled scammers who demand you talk to them. If you respond, the second or third message will be to ask where you are from as they try to harvest your ID or set up a romance scam. If you don’t chat, they resign the game in disgust, often after complaining vehemently, referring to you as “my dear” or sending ultra-religious messages. ✓ Useless Gameplay, Useless AppI just want to play Scrabble, but instead the App is overwhelming crowded with advertising, strange side game options which I have no interest in, and endless pop ups trying to get you to spend money. This all ruins the fluidity of any actual Scrabble gameplay. As if this wasn’t bad enough, it seems most the alleged people you play against are actually bots or vs computer type gameplay. Your opposition regularly takes a ridiculously long time to play their turn, and sometimes don’t take their turn at all just leaving you permanently waiting. This can mean a simple game of Scrabble can literally take hours, or will never be completed. ✓ More like Scrabble GONEScrabble, in its pure form, is for me one of the true classic games. It’s not quite as nuanced as chess but it does evoke the same quiet contemplation that comes with a deceptively simple yet endlessly replayable concept. It doesn’t need any bells or whistles, and it doesn’t need to be glamourised or modernised. It is what it is and that’s more than enough. Scrabble Go, regrettably, is a hallucinogenic nightmare bulldozing through a tranquil field for absolutely no reason (unless you count capitalist greed, which I certainly don’t). The countless perplexing and unnecessary add-ons are one thing, but the user interface of the app is another entirely. To put it simply, it’s like watching the abstract warp sequence from the third act of 2001: A Space Odyssey whilst enduring a blinding migraine. It’s a complete mess. Exploring this thing is like hacking a machete through the endless thicket of a technicolour swamp. I also don’t appreciate being notified 5 times a day about chests or tiles or challenges just because I have to keep notifications on to see when my dad has played his next move. Seriously, leave me alone. ✓ Improved but still highly flawedFirst, creeps do NOT use the chat function in this app to track you, for the simple reason that everyone knows that the chat function doesn't work at all, so... I guess that's a positive? There are plenty of legit annoyances to complain about: for instance, there's the "multiplayer mode", which for anyone who thinks about it for more than five seconds, doesn't make any sense. What are the chances that more than two players - total strangers, in nearly every case - will be available to play at the same time? Absolutely zero. Finally, something is very wrong with the dictionary. The word "rabbited" means "ran away". It does NOT mean "rabbit"! There are other examples, with which I won't trouble you, but some of the dictionary entries don't even sound like proper English... like they were written by a 3-year-old or something. And now, Scopely has added a new horror: the FREAKING CARD COLLECTIONS. As if the thousands of tile variants weren’t enough to completely turn off lovers of the core Scrabble game. AAAGGGHHH! CONCENTRATE ON IMPROVING THE BASIC GAME PLAY, AND FORGET ALL THIS MEANINGLESS FRIPPERY! ✓ Disappointing Money GrabMany years ago I had purchased the EA sports version of this app. I had taken a hiatus from playing and recently decided to pick it back up and was bummed to find out that the EA version had been mothballed. I downloaded this version of the game it was completely disgusted. It took a while to figure out that you could wade through the ADHD candy crush version of games they offered to fined a Version close to the original. However there’s no purchase option for the app, You have to pay these jokers quarterly to keep from being bombarded by ads for other moronic and insulting games this company peddles. I supposedly received a free three month trial version of the ad free game. That lasted about six days and then the janky ads came back. I get it, the old version it was a one off sale for the developer. Now they load this game up with multiple add-on charges that used to be part of the game. I just don’t want to spend $32 a year to play ad free. Yes, 32 a year. Very disappointing. Hasbro should be ashamed of themselves for letting this game become what it has. I plan to delete it off my phone and try to find an alternative. ✓ Do Not Trust Them! They refuse to delete account.This is a shady company! I’ve been trying to delete my account for almost a week now. I filled everything out online as their agreement notes. It didn’t get deleted so I emailed their customer service. Someone named Maxx contacted me asking me for the same exact information that I already filled out online. They ask for so many details and I had already deleted the app itself. I told him why do I need to provide the information a second time? Then someone named Mark contacted me and said their support online form has nothing to do with them! So I had to download the app again! It’s good for their ratings. I sent all the information again! Nobody responded. I followed up again. This time they sent an automated response saying the ticket is closed! I checked and they’ve closed my ticket without deleting my account. I was very clear in my last email to them that I’ll send the information again. Even after providing all the information they asked, they did not delete my account. Do not trust them. ✓ A game meant for childrenAfter playing scrabble for many years on Facebook and with it disappearing , I thought I had better give scrabble go a try. What a lot of noise and silly things to collect along the way. I’m not going to continue on this game, a game meant for children under 10, not adults. It’s an insult to intelligence ! I am now playing the classic version but with adverts after every turn I’m losing interest fast. And there are no ongoing stats to see how I compare to other players , the ones on there reset every week.? Also seems to be a lot of men on there only wanting to chat someone up! ✓ Ridiculous.I usually don’t write reviews if an app is bad, but this one has undoubtedly made me so furious for the following reason: The entire app isn’t dedicated to the actual game. It’s literally a bunch of pop ups and prizes and rewards and treasure chests that, probably, no one wants to see. You can’t get through a game, and in the beginning, I couldn’t even start one without getting hopelessly disoriented in all the poorly displayed match types and other frivolous things in the home screen. And the graphics? Slow and frustrating, especially when you get these useless gems and then the treasure chest opens, while it’s your turn, so you’re just staring at the screen watching these ridiculous animations with no way of skipping them, and just when you think they’re done, they’re not! Then it starts suggesting different wood finishes for your tiles, so at this rate you’ll never get back to your game! Honestly opening this app feels like a chore. You want to play the game but it just feels like you can’t. The app coders/developers, the poor things, someone please free them because they’ve definitely been held against their will by management that hasn’t understood what the consumers want. It has classic Scrabble that (advert) you can play against (advert) online users and (advert) friends or AI opponents (advert). It also has other (advert) scrabble based word games (advert) and various competitions (advert) in which you can (advert) win exclusive content such as (advert) frames for your avatar (advert) or themed tiles (advert). When choosing AI (advert) opponents (as with real life ones) you get to see their average word score so you can tell if you’re evenly matched (advert). However, several times now I’ve played an opponent with (advert) an average score that’s a point or two lower than mine and (advert) they’ve pulled out two seven-letter words and reaching a score of over 200 in the first 5 turns. I believe (advert) that this is a deliberate attempt to prevent players from (advert) winning the exclusive content. Also there are (advert) loads of adverts (advert). ✓ Please keep working to improve this game!It has potential, but so many features that make it a frustrating experience. Things like: not being able to stop strangers requesting games with you (even after hiding yourself from searches and being shown as online), not being able to easily find games or interact with the app without constant ads and promos. The option to play original scrabble is good and less frustrating but the non traditional version could also be made more appealing with slightly less frequent ads and the option to choose what kind of rewards or type of chests you want if you choose to join in tournaments etc. At the moment it’s like being bombarded with an overwhelming amount of stuff that you don’t really understand or want, and you feel as though you spend more time clicking out of tournament promos, adverts, stranger game requests and pushes to enable notifications than you do actually playing and enjoying the game of scrabble. ✓ Buggy, insulting and addictive all the sameApart from the fact that this constantly freezes or quits on my brand new iPhone, it is an insult to scrabble players. There is no way I would actually pay for this Las Vegas version of what is historically a classy game. First of all £5.99 a month is a total rip-off especially as it crashes and over-heats my phone. Secondly what is it with all these chests and gawky bells or whatever. Thirdly the ads I’m confronted with are quite frankly insulting. Worse is the vile music. They are totally inappropriate for this game. Gladiators, warriors, violence, poor girls waiting to be rescued and stupid puerile games with the age range of 3-5. However as I am more or less restricted from leading a normal life, I am addicted to the game part. So I put the phone on silent, thankfully discovered the classic mode and shut my eyes to the appalling ads while waiting for the classical screen to re-appear. I use the 30 seconds or so to achieve something more useful such as cleaning the windows. Update: I have now deleted this app as since November 2021 it stopped accrediting points and wins so what is the point? ✓ Chat feature is invasiveI have to say that there is a real problem with men (in my case) messaging and not wanting to actually play scrabble. It feels more like a dating app at times, and when I don’t wish to chat (particularly to men twice my age) they end the game. Very frustrating and clearly shows their motives. This is a seedy side that I didn’t expect to encounter from a reputable game. This means that I cannot recommend this app to any female friends or family, particularly those who are younger than me. It’s a real shame as it’s otherwise a great way to improve vocabulary. I have since learnt that there is a block and report feature, but this isn’t entirely obvious, and as I am a grown women with internet safety sense, I would worry about younger adults/children as some of these men are rather predatory. I can’t believe an innocent game of scrabble has turned into me having to block men, who don’t understand why I wouldn’t want to message, meet up or give them personal details about where I live. I feel like you have given a platform to oddballs and weirdos to be able to contact and harras women. This is not ok and means that I will no longer be using the app. I’ve literally had enough. ✓ Designed for childrenThe new app seems to cater to an audience other than actual Scrabble players. It appears to have been aimed at ten year old children who want to earn points and see bright lights and cartoons. This is either a deliberate move to shift to a younger demographic, hoping that people who already play the game will hang in there, or an accident in hiring app designers that don’t connect with an educated, literate audience who plays the game in quiet moments and to relax, not to stimulate reward centres with movement and frantic activity. ✓ Horrible UIThe user interface in this app is the worst. It is way too busy. Hyperactive. ADD. Do all of us scrabble players a favour and provide options to turn off all the animations and ‘extras’. Add an option to be invisible to people not on individual friend lists. Add an option for simple mode: I don’t want to earn anything but points for plays, in the classic game. ✓ Started to play but the app frustrated me.Playing Monopoly Go, I thought this game would be as good but it isn’t. I got frustrated as the nonsense words my opponent used on the board, for example “HM”, which, of course, is not an actual word. I did wonder if I was playing against a real person. ✓ Killing off the old Scrabble appI HATE the new Scrabble Go! It is full of cartoons, strange ‘gems’ (what are they for?!) and rubbish I am not interested in. I do not need goals or incentives - the only incentive needed is to actually play the game! I want a straightforward Scrabble game I can play with my friends or play against the computer. I want it to keep score, allow me to use the Dictionary for free as many times as I want, and the usual Scrabble features of exchange tiles, pass a turn, and Hints/best available word, and to see what tiles remain. ✓ The notifications..This is a great app to play when you’re trying to pass the time. However, with that being said- it does NOT mean I want to be reminded every 10 minutes that the app is on my phone. The fact that there are no notifications settings on an app like this is mind boggling. Also the amount of pop ups within the app for “challenges” is more than annoying. I just enjoy playing scrabble, if I want to do a challenge, I will. I don’t need it to interrupt whatever I’m doing on the app or have it pop up and disrupt what I’m trying to do every time I open the app or go to the main screen. Lastly, after every turn I play on a game I’m in, the “more games” section pops up and is completely unnecessary. Again, if I wanted to switch games I can easily do that myself. ✓ A big loss for Mattel & HasbroOh what has scrabble come down to... this app is a mess and really took the joy of playing scrabble for me. I’ll ignore the bugs and crashes for now, they’re supposed to get fixed overtime right? But the glitz, the bells and whistles? Why? Just why? ✓ Scrabble?!?!I have played the original scrabble game against the computer thousands of times for years as a way to destress and clear my head. Scrabble Go, on the other hand, is the epitome of stress. Feels like I’m playing scrabble at a Las Vegas casino! Icons flashing, animated faces popping into view with every single move and diamonds raining down and then suddenly in the middle of a game I have to draw cards and amass points. I shut the app, no thank you! This isn’t scrabble and it’s definitely not conducive to coming up with any meaningful words to play. I’ll go back to the old Scrabble until they take it down in June and then bid the whole game farewell. What on earth were you guys thinking? Have you done any research into your average scrabble player?!? Who wants to draw cards and place bets every few rounds of words?!? ✓ Way too busyThe crazy amount of advertising (one after each turn) and constant in-game pop-ups are extremely frustrating. There is just too much going on, it gets a bit overwhelming.
