Viewfinder Preview for Positive User Reviews

Great app, does as it says, very stable, one feature requestWonderful app, totally worth the price. One feature request: show the focusing distance used for the preview. The rangefinder on my 4x5 camera is broken and I’d love to use the app to find focus distance..Version: 1.8

Great Viewfinder AppBy far my favorite viewfinder app. The only features missing are options to display grid lines, levels, and focus distance. While it doesn’t seem that focus distance can be easily and accurately calculated, grid lines and levels should be easy to implement so I’d love to see them in the next update. Thank you!.Version: 1.10.1

Awesome appHere is your pocket rocket! You can also save images as tiff..Version: 1.11.1

David ToftHaving read the featured photographer ‘Adam Fowler’ in On Landscape I decided to purchase this app. I just can’t get it to work it always defaults to full frame and as Fuji user I have both APS C and MF format cameras. Very frustrating so it’s back to a cardboard mask for me. Since my initial review I would add the following. I could see the benefits of this app as I carry my kit in a backpack so I decided to persevere. I accept that I’m not a ‘techy’ person but after working through the help section I have now got the app to work. To his credit the developer contacted me and offered help but by this time I had managed to configure the app to my cameras and lenses. The app works fine and I’m sure it will be beneficial to me..Version: 1.6

AGAbsolutely worth the money..Version: 1.9.2

Great AppLove this app for preplanning architectural shoots. I wish the photos that were saved to the camera roll were watermarked with the camera data or has that option..Version: 1.8

Worth. It.Log your analog photos, get a meter reading, add notes, add film/camera/lens to preview - amazing..Version: 1.8.3

Nice App. Works well!I am glad I bought this app. It is nice to double check the cameras exposure meter. Please add more focal lengths. Especially wider. Thank you!.Version: 1.9.2

Important app for large formatSimply a fantastic app!! Getting a bit on in years so I love the fact that I can frame my shots without shlepping my full kit. The histogram is an added bonus as is the exposure info. In addition, App offers extensive B&W emulation. Super app for the large format photographer.Version: 1.6.1

Great appDoes what it says with plenty of customisation possible. VVag good value..Version: 1.3.4

Exceptional App!This app is very handy with the ability to set any ratio/frame aspect and would be an invaluable tool to help those new to photography not only learn how settings correlate but also VISUALISE how a given setting will affect the end result. Definitely worth its price!.Version: 1.8

Great but might need an update for new iPhoneI love this app, the ease of use and film emulations are awesome! However, on my 14 Pro the field of view on 35mm and 50mm doesn’t seem to be correct. The 50 looks more like about 60. I’d like to use it for framing and metering all in one but it isn’t quite there. If this gets updated it’s 5 stars easily..Version: 1.11.0

It just works!!!Love it especially for large format to record my shot info in reference to holders!.Version: 1.9.1

Great app to have on my phoneI purchased this last year after watching a video of a photographer use it, I use some cameras that don’t have a light meter. This also allows me to put in what film I’m shooting on to see what the scene will actually look like, I’ve looked at some scenes thinking there was a image to be had but then I got the app open to see it wouldn’t look the way I thought it would. Also great to have the histogram and being able to tap on the screen to the areas you’d like to get a reading on. I’ve had a couple of glitches with the app, but nothing that closing the app and opening it again can’t fix. I’ll be using this instead of buying a light meter. Just remember to keep your phone charged..Version: 1.11.1

IncredibleI have carried a viewing card for decades. But not only does this app show me the framing and have the wonderful benefit of getting my itchy trigger finger off the shutter button when viewing through the viewfinder, for black-and-white it actually shows me the total range and this is invaluable. And now I always have my viewing card with me. Fantastic app..Version: 1.10.1

ExcellentAs a photographer this is a great app doing exactly what is needed. I don't often leave reviews but I feel I have to due to the very quick and excellent communication with the developer. I noticed a small issue which I emailed to them. I got a reply straight away and it was fixed within 24 hours. Truly excellent..Version: 1.9.1

Clean and Straight-ForwardDoes exactly what I was looking for, fairly priced, very clean and minimal, yet intuitive interface. Thanks!.Version: 1.6

Invaluable Tool!I've used Viewfinder for a few years now, mainly with pinhole cameras. This app is perfect for framing and exposure calculation, you can even factor in filter compensations. My only suggestion for improvement would be the ability to set up and save a number of camera 'profiles', whereby the settings such as aperture, aspect ratio, frame size, iso etc can be saved to a dedicated slot? Extremely useful when switching from one camera to another. I'd love to see this feature in future updates. Thanks.Version: 1.10.1

The app does what it says - a UX Designer needed thoughThe app does what it says but it’s not very well designed. A UX designer fixing the interface make this an incredible app for all photographers..Version: 1.11.1

My favorite New app!If you shoot film, you will love this app. Pick you camera/lens/film stock combo and let the visualization begin..Version: 1.10.1

AMAZING!This app is truly amazing! I shoot medium format film. Before I pull my cameras out, I pull out my phone, launch this app, and I compose my scene with it. I can change focal lengths, introduce filters, different film stocks, etc. I can even use the app as a lightmeter to determine what can settings I may want to use! I always pass on "Five Stars" recommendations to fellow photographers!.Version: 1.11.0

Amazing appThis app keeps getting better. Previous to this latest version, the only thing I could think of that it was missing were simulated color filters. Guess what!? The latest version has it! Incredible! Really worth downloading and using this app..Version: 1.9

Great tool for Large Format photogsI use this all the time when scouting photos and deciding which lens to mount on my 4x5 or 5x7 camera. I can’t wait for the wide angle lens compatibility upgrade to use the wide angle lens on the 11-Pro to see visualizations wider than 90mm. It would be helpfull if the expose button could be set to screen capture the whole screen with the overlay and data in addition to a setting to just take the photo only. Thanks. Great app..Version: 1.7

Extremely useful for the right userI originally got this app to visualize various lenses on my digital camera. It did that very well. I recently discovered you can also use it as a good simulator of camera / lens combinations for shooting with the iPhone camera. The one minor annoyance is when shooting at a cropped setting the resulting image has a tiny 1px border, but that’s a minor quibble. A great app..Version: 1.11.0

Why not use it as a primary app?In Ani, Eastern Anatolia recently I saw two youngsters having great fun with just an iPhone and a light but sturdy tripod shooting ancient monuments - no heavy camera backpacks, skipping around with gay abandon. That set me thinking.... Since then I have been using “Viewfinder” as the main app to capture architecture shots at various distances (using “ObjectHeight” app) and focal lengths and having great fun playing around with height of subjects, distance away, focal length and avoidance of non-vertical verticals. no heavy bags... no tilt shift lenses. Landscape perspective is next on the list. If you think about it, a lot of our shots don't need anything more than jpegs - maybe only x1-2 need larger cameras. Even Paul Reiffer, Capture One Ambassador, admits to using his iPhone more than Canon or Phase One cameras. I am happily using an iPhone5S and the jpegs allow easy annotation from the gallery view option which goes way beyond EXIF data in terms of recording useful info at the time. Down side is you cannot download comments to a desktop. My workaround is images are stored in Photos, and you can look at images on a Desktop and your comments on the iPhone. Not sure how M1 allowing iPhone apps to run works out here. An unknown for me - Apple RAW not sure if Viewfinder on iPhone 13 works with this app? In summary, Viewfinder takes iPhones beyond a simple point and shoot alternatives to Compact cameras and into the realms of interchangeable lens cameras. Finally, please keep it up to date, otherwise Apple will cull it..Version: 1.10.1

Great for large formatThis app is really best for large format shooters. So glad to have found it. I love how I can enter my own lens focal lengths—and even the film emulator is not bad. Simple, clean, no useless bells and whistles. Great job folks!.Version: 1.6.1

Does what it saysVery useful tool, which it does without a fuss. Support for the telephoto lens would be nice but not estential.Version: 1.9.2

Perfect for my needs! This is exactly what I was looking for, and the combination of presets and customization help a lot in planning what lenses to take with me or to help plan future lens purchases for various film formats. Fantastic!.Version: 1.10.0

Fantastic!Really well designed app which is great for using with vintage film cameras..Version: 1.10.1

Very useful appAs I shoot landscapes with prime lenses I find this app indispensable It’s also a very useful way of recording potential locations with the bonus of knowing what focal length lenses to pack. Only improvement I can think of is the addition of recording the coordinates of the location.Version: 1.11.0

One small omissionGreat app that makes recording meta data for film an absolute doddle . Just wish I could select f/3.5 as an aperture , I couldn’t find any way of editing the apertures ..Version: 1.9.2

BrilliantWhat a great app and good value. I was looking for a physical preview lens but this is much better at a fraction of the cost. Really easy to set up and use. Would be nice though to be able to associate different aspect ratios to cameras as you can lenses. Also to be able to choose a film emulation from the front screen would nice instead of having to go back into settings. Overall though a fab app and I’m looking forward to using it in the field..Version: 1.7.1

ImprovementIt would be a big help if you can add lenses from 65mm to 300 mm T and 400mm T to the large format section and all lens choices in between..Version: 1.9.2

Great but found some flawsThis is great to help pre-visualize framing and metering when shooting film. However one quirk that I couldn’t figure out is how to turn off HDR. HDR lightens shadows and darkens blown highlights, which isn’t represented when shooting film. Please allow it turn off for better simulation. Also, when in Manual metering mode, the shot frame is darker than how the screen is shown..Version: 1.8.1

Will not loadWas working on my iPhone SE, now will not load. Downloaded fresh from the App Store twice. Same result. Frustrating as seems very good - when it works. Update. Adam Fowler contacted me very promptly advising of a fix. Now working as intended. Recommended..Version: 1.8.3

Great, please add info to images as text optionFantastic and useful app, thank you. Is it possible to embed the focal length, camera, shutter and aperture info as text on the saved image itself for review in other apps, eg the photo gallery?.Version: 1.9.1

Viewfinder ProI’ve used lots of photography apps in my medium and large format photography and this is far and away the best. Not much need for any other apps now..Version: 1.1.1

Great app!... with something missing.I am an architectural photographer and this app streamlines scouting and exploring options before I really get down to the business of shooting the job. I really like the flexibility of the “rangefinder” mode. But I can think of something that would make this app much more valuable to my scouting process. Since I almost exclusively use “shifting” lenses in my work, it would be fantastic if in the rangefinder mode, I could shift those series of focal length frames, with maybe a ‘hold & drag’ with one finger gesture. In that way, at most focal lengths I can incorporate my intended shifts into my scouting shots! That would be a great boon to the architectural shooters out there. Of course such a feature would only be possible for focal lengths inside of the iPhone max focal length (which I think is about 13mm). I’d love to hear from the developers if this is a feature they would consider... or if this is already possible, but I haven’t found how to do it. It would make this the perfect app for my pre shoot scouting. Thanks!.Version: 1.9.1

Excellent! As a large format landscape photographer using 5x4 and 10x8 I found this app to be one of the most useful tools to have in the field. The ability to frame the picture before setting up the camera is the main purpose but the app has so much more to offer. The note keeping journal which stores both exposure details and an image is great as a record and these can be saved in albums of a particular day or project. Also to see the image in monochrome before exposing a frame gives me a good idea of what the print will end up looking like. I’ve bought a few ‘photographers toolkit’ types of apps which end up falling short of the mark but this one is a keeper! Congratulations to the developer for an excellent app..Version: 1.3

Love itLove this app. Just wish it had more emulsions and filter simulations.Version: 1.9.1

ViewfinderGreat idea, very useful...3/4/2021 Uve added filters for BW film. Great app, now even better, thankyou.Version: 1.9.1

Great appGreat app to check views without the need to setup camera.Version: 1.3.3

Just what I was looking forI wanted an app that allowed me to see compositions at key focal lengths for the 3 main cameras I use when out in the landscape. This app allows me to have my three sensor sizes and my key lenses set up in the app so I can select the best prime lens or zoom lens to match the composition Im looking for. In short it saves a lot of time in the field swapping between lenses to see what works - just compose with this app first, see what works, then get the right lens out to finish the job. Setup of camera sensor sizes, aspect ratios, and lens focal lengths is easy. One of the best photography apps Ive used..Version: 1.5.1

Love this app!I absolutely love this app. It instantly became an integral part of my large format tool kit! The only thing that is keeping me from giving it 5 stars is it seems to eat up my iPhone 7+ battery incredibly fast. I just need to make sure to carry external battery with me if I’m out shooting. Make sure to close the app when not using because it will drain your battery, at least it does on my 7+. Even with the battery issue, I still highly recommend this app. Fix the battery issue and this is a perfect app! Great work Adam!.Version: 1.4.1

Please add wider focal lengths!Great app but would love to see wider focal lengths, specifically on 4x5, like a 90mm. Should be able to be done with the new wide angle lens post-iPhone 11?.Version: 1.9.1
