Fender Play: Songs & Lessons for Negative User Reviews

Where Did Fender Songs Go?I love my Fender stuff. Got a 68 custom deluxe, my baby is an 05 American Deluxe V Neck Strat, got a highway one strat, a dingy little squire strat that surprised the crap out of me, and a lot of merch including bar stools. I’m giving this 2 stars, because where did Fender Songs go? I’m using the app occasionally to make song and lyric learning much faster, but it’s disappeared from the App Store. I cant put it on my iPhone, even though i paid for a year of it. What’s going on? i even downloaded this app thinking it must have been integrated but upon attempting to restore purchases, it acts like i have not purchased any plans. Why am i being punished for buying into another Fender produc?. I’m lucky i didn’t delete the app from the iPad or I wouldn’t even be able to get my money’s worth out! Please advise!.Version: 2.13.1

Not really free.I have to say, it’s not only Fender’s fault, but Apple’s too. That kind of app should never appear as “Free” in the App Store, because it requires a subscription even if you only want to try it. Apple should present this app as a “Subscription Required” instead (hi Apple, this new category would be very welcome). I couldn’t properly analyze the app, because I’m a musician, but I’m not crazy. I’d never put my hardly-earned money into a black hole like that, having to make a commitment in advance, and rush through a 14-day period to check all the app’s features, to then make a conclusion if it’s worth the money paid. If not, as we can read in numerous 1-star reviews, it could turn into a real pain to cancel the subscription. Moreover, according to many of the reviews, the app seems to be directed to absolute beginners, which is not my case. Interestingly, I had a number of Fender equipments before, some low end, some high end. My latest purchase was a mint condition Fender acoustic guitar, which I paid CAD 138 at Tom Lee. It’s an excellent instrument, just like all other Fender I had in the past. Suddenly , that made me think: should someone invest almost the same in a paid app, or trying one of the numerous YouTube free lessons instead and save money for a good instrument would perhaps be a better idea?.Version: 2.19.0

Unable to restore purchase—how convenient for FenderI’d love to use this app and review its features, but after setting up a new phone and installing Fender Play, I’ve gone through initial set up, and reached the subscription selection page, only to find that the “Restore Purchase” button, which is minuscule and tough to find, is also unresponsive—nothing happens when it is clicked. So my only option to move forward is to select a new, ADDITIONAL subscription. How convenient for Fender. And how disappointing for users. My existing annual subscription is valid until August according to my Apple subscription & purchase list. That’s four months from now. Other, responsibly designed apps put “Restore Purchase” front and center during initial set up..Version: 5.8.0

Just installed and uninstallingJust installed with excitement that it is Free as it was i found in google search as a free guitar app to learn as a beginner but very very disappointed when I signed up and it revealed that it is not free only a trial is free So uninstalling it.Version: 6.1.0

Worst experienceBought this app for a year. Then couldn’t login it said I needed to buy it again. It says I’m subscribed. Fender tells me just to call Apple. Apple has absolutely terrible customer service and says they can’t see an issue. Two hundred dollars for an app I’ve never used. This could not be a bigger disappointment.Version: 5.8.0

Where’s The BandSo I’m a Canadian who wants to hear more songs on Fender Play and most specifically The Band they used Fender guitars (mostly) Heck you even Made Robbie Robertson a version of his Bronze Fender Stratocaster and you guys showed him it but all there you guys put in there was Just Up on cripple Creek there is no “The weight” and there is no “I shall be released” I’m very polite to give 2 Stars.Version: 6.4.1

NoNot free!so expensive and i cant find the free version even with that silly website. dont bother to respond i dont want to pay§§.Version: 5.5.0

Far too expensiveWay too expensive. The lessons are in no beneficial or logical order, the teachers (who aren’t a joy to watch) are rushing through the little they offer in lessons. Not good for beginners..Version: 2.7.2

No goodGot the app knowing their would be in app purchases. Singed up and then takes me to a subscription page of 100 something I thought that was ridiculous so I deleted it straight away..Version: 2.0

AnnoyingIt looks like a very good course but very annoying messages all the time. i gave up with it. the tuner has even more annoying messages.Version: 3.4.0

Very annoying quirksThe app does what it’s supposed to, but has some very annoying quirks. For example; When playing videos, it always shows a “spinner” as if there are connection issues when there are none. Loads of buttons don’t work on first tap (such as marking a section as complete). When they do work there’s a long annoying delay. It’s as if the app is talking to the server before reflecting the change in the UI. When learning a song the tablature fills the screen. But when playing in feedback mode the tabs are tiny and unreadable on a phone (and you can’t zoom like you can in the Tabs app). I hoped that this latest update might fix some of these, but I see no difference..Version: 5.2.0

OkIt’s good but i don’t use it anymore and for the past 2 years i’ve been trying to cancel my subscription and i don’t find anything. i’ve tried to follow all the steps for how to cancel on each device and there’s nothing. i’m very fed up. it’s so complicated why not put a that allows you to cancel instead of having to do 100 different steps..Version: 3.0.0

Free trial is falseThe free trial requires that you purchase a subscription before you can use the “free” trial. The is really a “first month free” with NO trial or evaluation period at all. I don’t buy apps sight unseen!.Version: 1.8.2

Scam! Dont downloadDon’t download this app it will scam you and they will not give you a refund. It will automatically charge your credit card after the free trial without even asking for any permission! Beware! Its highway robbery!.Version: 2.5

Looking at changing to GibsonI like the lessons and selection of songs. Their app is easier to use..Version: 4.7.0

Apps great but its logged me outI have been logged out , says in the app store that i have a subscription but its logged me out and then won’t recognize my apple id or email address . Just dumb.Version: 2.14.4

Not Playing fair ..So imagine my disappointment .. Received an email from Fender Play explaining that the current New Year 50% off deal was ending in the next few hours .. “I’d better jump on this right now” I thought .. but then I saw something really disappointing .. you can’t pay for the App with Apple Pay or PayPal .. I guess this is so Fender can renew your Annual Subscription without informing you of it and you’ll have less of a chance of recouping and further amounts paid or maybe they don’t like paying fees to Apple or PayPal .. Ah well .. I guess I’ll have to spend between £75 and a £100 elsewhere ...Version: 2.16.0

BuggyThe sub is okay, the 7 stage lesson plan could be completed in the two week trial with daily practice. Many of the songs offered are not really the full version or are adopted for beginners, which is good and bad. Would rather see what Garageband did with simplified and advanced versions. Worse is that the app is very buggy and will crash when you open the Feedback mode (unless it is the first activity you go to after launch). Sometimes the tabs also glitch and sections will appear blank (likely related to moving through the video if you skip forward or back to replay a section)..Version: 5.8.0

Chords move about when scrolling :-(Good app overall, the videos and layout are great, but one annoying thing is that when learning a song and scrolling down to look at the chords, they swap places when you scroll up and it can cause some confusion, especially for a beginner like me. Please can you fix this Fender!.Version: 6.1.0

For those intermediate playersIf your like me, you have some experience with the guitar. You know barr chords, you know a lot of songs and you want to take that next step. This is not the app to take that next step. This app is for people who have never played guitar in their life before. I downloaded this app to find out that for me, everything was too easy. In the beginning of the lessons, sometimes the instructor will play a really cool lick that I would like to learn but instead, you do the very basic version of what he just did. I felt like he/she just teased me in that moment. FOR BEGINNERS, I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS APP. But when you want to take that next step, go somewhere else..Version: 2.11.3

OrangeMy name Jeff.Version: 2.16.0

Wrong aspect ratio for iPad mini 6th genIt’s a good app but has the wrong aspect ratio for the 6th Gen iPad mini, it doesn't take up all the available space on the screen and The music sheets are also very small since they designed for screens around 11 inches not 7.Version: 4.3.0

Scam be warnedI bought this app but you cannot access it without setting up an account giving your private details then demands over $150 to access.Version: 2.7.0

It’s ok but not perfectI’m a total beginner and first few lessons are very clearly and slowly presented, thus they are easy to follow and you start to learn and build confidence. Then we come to lesson 5 and a tutor who talks far too quickly. He doesn’t give you time to digest what he’s just said, then dives straight into a chord progression. Maybe I’m stupid but I found myself constantly backwinding and repeating passages to try and absorb what he’s just said. It undermines your confidence and is quite frustrating. The producers need to maintain a consistent approach and uniformity of pace in each lesson, especially in the early stages..Version: 2.14.0

Nicely paced instruction but okay appFender’s instructional pace is nice and they really get down to the nuts and bolts of how to play music but the app is lacking. Most egregious of all is the streak counter. Most times, it fails to update itself or have the correct date or number of practice sessions. I’ve found that if I kill the app entirely and then practice, it is usually right but weeks have passed where I didn’t get credit for practicing. This is fine but kind of weird that a function that they push with marketing campaigns and push notifications doesn’t work. Other than that, I think allowing the video to be put into the corner so that I can focus on the sheet music would be helpful. I use my iPad while practicing and more than half the screen is obfuscated by the video and I can’t see ahead to the next set of chords are unless I take my hands off the guitar to scroll. The app is a nice cross platform app, though. It rarely crashes and the design is really nice. Of course I wish it hooked into my guitar interface and listened to see if I was hitting notes correctly but I know that’s a heavy ask for a cross platform app..Version: 2.11.0

No advanced bass :(As a bass player of a couple of years I looked into this looking for some more intermediate and advanced stuff but I was unfortunately disappointed with how basic even the high levels of the bass section were. I’m sure fender have put in more effort into the guitar section as that is the bigger market so I can’t say much for that however if you are coming into this as a bass player who has even a decent idea of what you’re doing I can’t say you’ll get much out of this unless it receives some higher levels..Version: 1.8.4

My Fender Play experienceThe song lessons aren’t good because there are only three different difficulties. I have a tabs app that is more useful if I’m honest (plus it’s free), and when I play the tabs from this other app it actually sounds like the original song. However the exercises are useful, but I still think it was a waste of my money to be honest. £40 would be acceptable but £80 is overpriced because Fender doesn’t deliver. This app is more for beginners than those who’ve played guitar for a couple or few years, and I wouldn’t recommend it. To be honest, Fender should just stick to producing guitars..Version: 2.3

Not worth the timeStarts off simple then the instructors become difficult to listen to (either because you're falling asleep, or they're not clear on the instruction). You're better off looking on YouTube then spending time or money on this..Version: 6.0.3

Erratic Tabs & Difficulty, NO LEFTY SUPPORTChords marked with decreasing text sizes and chord graphics are gone. Nearly impossible to read at a glance. Tabs jump all over. Trying to learn to play not read music. Repeats may save trees for printed music but are totally unjustified in electronic formats. Very frustrating how measures are shown three different sizes. Wildly changing degrees of difficulty from lesson to lesson add to the frustration. Some practices are too fast even at half speed, not many but some. App seems to be erratic about tracking your progress. Today I’m not getting credit for practicing. Updates to Streaks would be nice if they worked but are just as or maybe more unreliable as older versions. If I hadn’t paid for a year I’d probably be looking at other online tutorials by now. The Fender name isn’t benefiting from this app in its current form..Version: 5.5.1

Not free$15 a month in Canada. That’s close to $200 a year. It advertises as ‘free’ but clearly it isn’t. So... trust broken. Why trust anything else about it. This from a company that sells guitars. You would think they would be happy to let you know how to use what they sell - for free. Flawed business approach imo. Make it free Fender and more people will buy guitars. Duh..Version: 1.8.4

Have to sign up to a plan immediatelyWhy is this app apparently free but you can't use it without signing in and subscribing to an expensive paid plan - albeit with a trial period. Would prefer to have some free features..Version: 2.14.0

Issues1. Intonation. 2. Fidelity to path. 3. Fidelity to instrument 1. Intonation: Before starting a lesson, I tune my guitar using the Fender Tune app. After starting my lesson I find that my guitar is not in tune with the instructor’s guitar, so I re-tune. Then, during a subsequent lesson with a different instructor, I have to re-tune again to be in tune with *this* instructor’s guitar. In a manufacturing plant, an issue like this would come under the heading of quality control. 2. Fidelity to path: Of the 5 paths available for guitar, I signed up for Folk Music. Although I appreciate the idea of sending extra lessons to promote increasing the student’s repertoire, I wish that Fender would either send only material that is consistent with my chosen path, or at least give the student the option of choosing additional material from whichever other path(s) the student might prefer. Quality control. I definitely don’t want rock music. I actually find this ‘pushy’ and discouraging. 3. Fidelity to instrument: I signed up for acoustic guitar lessons. The instruments used by the instructors on my path (not to mention the extra materials) are sometimes acoustic, sometimes electric (strat, tele, etc.). Again, for the sake of the sound I want to hear and get good at, could I have acoustic guitar lessons wherein the instructor is playing an acoustic guitar? Quality control..Version: 2.20.3

No Apple TV AppThis would be so much better if you could watch the lessons on a bigger screen. It makes no sense that there isn’t an app for Apple TV! This would be a great solution and would be so much easier to follow compared to watching on an iPhone or iPad, surely it cant be that difficult to do? I’ve tried airplay to send the video to the Apple TV but as soon as my iPhone screen goes off so does the video stream :(.Version: 2.8.5

Great for laptop not so much on cellphoneSmall tabs and details make it hard to read on cellphone Its fine on laptop, but not very well built for cellphone use.Version: 4.5.0

It’s okay igI initially use this for a bass guitar which went great and then eventually decided to start learning the guitar but in the acoustic guitar lessons the instructors are playing electric. which really messed me up because it sounds different..Version: 3.3

Good at the start but progresses WAY too fast!I liked this from the start but I am in the second level and the instructors do an absolutely terrible job at informing the viewer of what is coming up next in a chord progression. The tab doesn’t show up so I can’t follow along. It also doesn’t scroll so I can’t play along event Shawn the tab does show up. I can’t even pause to practice because the video control blocks the list of chords. So many things add up to a terrible experience. I wish there was a way that I could play along more easily. The instructors need to pause between chord progressions. You can’t assume everyone can just jump right in and be perfect at it. I will still use this app but it’s really not the experience I wanted. I think o might go back to You Tube. I think I learned at a more steady pace. Frustration. I have thrown my pick down more than once because of how poorly these “instructors” actually instruct. I watched 4 videos in a row on what the strings were called but when it comes to chord progressions they fly right through it. Sad..Version: 2.1

Not free, can’t play without subscriptionWaste of time, they put it as free with in app purchases but when you download you can’t do a thing without paying monthly. Don’t see why they wouldn’t just have it as a subscription on the App Store instead of wasting people’s time by saying its free and having them download an app just to find out they can’t use it without paying money. If your reading this download Yousician instead, it’s free, easy and they won’t have you downloading an app for the sake of it..Version: 1.8.4

Don’t download.Scam!!!You need to pay a lot for a year like $1989 like no it’s a scam.Version: 2.6

Not worth the moneyI downloaded the app without paying much attention to the details. (Stupid move). So a few days later my cc is charged $11- The MONTHLY fee. So I said what the hell, might as well take advantage of my purchase. I was thinking it would be interactive as in the app would “listen” to your playing and if you passed the course you would then move on to more advanced lessons. Well this is definitely not that. It’s essentially a bunch of videos where they baby step you into guitar playing. There’s no music, no graded progression... the play along literally gives you a link to the iTunes version of the song, so you can buy that and play along. I can’t believe I wasted $11 and furthermore had I not canceled I would have been paying 11 bucks every month for a bunch of video clips of someone playing guitar. Just not what I was expecting. Maybe it’s the right format for some people but not me. I hate this app. The only reason I gave it 2 stars is because the app is well made from a clean, easy to navigate standpoint..Version: 2.7.2

Please provide left-handed chords!!Title says it all really. Could have been a good app but… Have a left-handed Fender acoustic guitar but can’t use Fender to help learn it! Disappointing 😞.Version: 4.14.1

Good but seems like better options out thereI’m a beginner, and while I like fender play, it’s missing a couple things that would make it much better. A simple thing is that the tabs don’t scroll along with this lesson, or auto scroll when you practice on your own. Consequently, you can’t see the sheet music while you’re playing along. You can only see one line at a time. It’s a simple thing but has really hampered my progress. Also I don’t know why they don’t include the lyrics along with the tab, they even say how you should sing along with the song, but don’t make that available to you. I signed up for the full year, and now I regret it because I think I’d rather try something like yousician that gives you feedback as well as has these other features..Version: 2.1

Fender - you can so much better than thisMaybe i didnt spend enough time with it, or not patient enough to follow their structure, but i am not impressed. I am still somewhat of a beginner guitar player, so what would have been nice is to yes learn chords and the appropriate songs with those chords so i immediately feel i have progression. Example i chose different songs and each one in the video shows me the chord fingering, if i already learnt C,G, A, Em....i dont need a video on that, yes i can fast forward but it tediuos. What would be nice is to see the guitar tab/ chords and play along, however at best i might get 8bars if i goto full screen you cannot play the video, or rather i just want to play along with the track but you can’t do that. Would be nice if you could filter songs based on Chords and the tutorial goes through the progression or strummimg pattern. Some of the structure of the app is about a few riffs which is ok - but not that usefull. Sorry but not worth the subscription - i was hoping the fender app would complement my JustinGuitar not the case. I am not bashing Fender, i have a Strat and a Mustang Amp and their Tone app which is great- hope this feeback is useful.Version: 2.6.3

Horrible Customer ServiceI paid for a 1 year subscription and kept getting the “upgrade now” pop ups after the fact. I reached out to customer support, sent screenshots that I did indeed pay for the app, and the rep I worked with it wouldn’t do a THING to help get it fixed. Literally said it’s apples problem and rudely pushed me off to them. After speaking with Apple they verified I had paid for the app, and confirmed that the email address associated was the one that I had logged into Fender with. I of course went back to the Fender “support” representative and he basically gave me a “tough luck,” and once again did nothing to help. I absolutely NEVER leave bad reviews but the representative David from Scottsdale was not only completely unhelpful, he was insanely rude..Version: 3.1.0

Needs more music. For what it is; it’s a great app to learn from, but what I hate is the lack of varied music genres: pop, rock, blues, and country are wide terms for music, and their over all choice of songs is lacking. Especially in the rock department, as far as I could find because of a lack of an actual search option: I couldn’t find any Metallica, FFDP, and only a few AC/DC if I remember correctly. I guess I’m just mad that Fender bought, then shut down Riff Station. I hadn’t found any other app that allowed you to learn the very basics of any song from my obscure favorite of Der Erste Schritt with it’s beautiful acoustic to literally anything Linkin Park. I’d gladly pay the subscription if they had an eighth of the songs..Version: 1.5.1

What's with the AudioThe audio often doesn't play through the phone so I have to shut the app down & restart it Also it suggests using headphones but then you can't hear the guitar Clunky app.Version: 6.2.1

Getting scammedWhen I purchased a new guitar from Fender, it came with a voucher for 2 free weeks of the fender play app. I signed up online, downloaded the app and followed the steps. Unfortunately the app didn’t seem right for me so the day before the trial ended I tried cancelling, only to find out I can’t! When I try to cancel in app, it redirects me to a web page. My options there are to cancel online (which I cannot do because it says I signed up on the app and have to cancel through my apple ID) and yet when I called apple support they said there is no record of me signing up on the app. Somehow I did not sign up on the app, but fender says I did, so I have no record anywhere that I signed up but I’m still getting charged and fender hasn’t replied to my emails.Version: 5.8.0

Good but dryI’m a light intermediate bassist after 6 months but want to get better. I started with this app to see about picking up things I may have missed and work on improvement. I am *very* glad that I did not start my bass learning with this app. While technically ok, it doesn’t really pull you into the feel of the music and the fun of playing. It also breezes over a lot of things that actually take some work to learn, while spending too much time in other areas. And at times it really feels like it’s a long Fender advertisement (which is ok, but there’s more out there!) Overall, this app is just not nearly as enjoyable and motivating as it could be to get you hooked playing a new instrument. The app is heavy on technique - which is good, but at least early on is very light on theory or assumes vocabulary and scale knowledge that you may or may not have. I also find their reliance on just tabulature notation alone to be disconcerting. Tab has lots of good things about it but really misses a lot, especially when trying to teach rhythm. Luckily, there are lots of places out there to learn more. I started learning with Josh Fossgreen’s BassBuzz - and am very happy that I started there. There are also other good folks out there for beginning lessons. After you have some comfort, come back and pick up things that maybe you missed before, and use this app to get better..Version: 3.0.0

Semi-scamJust a fair warning to any potential new customers like myself, the FREE trial is $189.00! If you have to pay for the year to try it…….IT’S NOT FREE!!!!.Version: 5.5.0

GreatI’m learning so fast how?? It is a great app everyone wanting to play should get this app..Version: 2.19.0

Stopped Working * but Fender are working on it...I’ve been using this happily for the last couple of months and have been encouraged with my progress. I now just see the spinning wheel when I try to open the App. I’ve tried everything. I’ve re-booted, uninstalled, reinstalled, yet still all I see is the spinning wheel. The only part of the App that still works is the Articles. None of my personal progress, skills, path or songs load. **I have now decided to update this revue, as I have at least been contacted by Fender to say they are working on this problem. It’s still frustrating to need to log on through their web site, however I can at least access my learning path from there. I’m looking forward to continuing learning through Fender and will of course give this app 5 starts once I can actually use it again. That said, I do believe they have created a fantastic learning platform. Please put this to bed soon so I can carry on enjoying the app experience and ease of access..Version: 2.6.4

HorribleThis app is horrible from what I’ve just seen. So I start of with watching the ad while on Instagram and it said it was completely free so I decided to give it a try (I’ve already started to play guitar) When the app downloaded everything seamed quite good I put step 1 is and then it tells me to put a subscription in that you have to pay for AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE ON THE AD IT SAID ITS COMPLETELY FREE!!!!!! So if your willing to pay then sure it’s probably great but if like me you’ve been lied to then don’t even bother.Version: 2.6.7

Don’t forget to cancel!!Not a truly free trial. You have to remember to cancel or you will be changed. A free trial should NOT require payment info!.Version: v2.4.1

I Don’t Think They Care About SouthpawsI signed up for Fender Play so excited to get started. I had played guitar a decade ago but stopped due to life. The pandemic has forced me to appreciate everything. I love the FB community so much! The biggest gripe I have is that they don’t offer a left-handed option. I play left and am just asking for a simple toggle in the settings that allows you to pick the orientation. The videos don’t even need to change just update the chord charts, etc. I don’t think that would be difficult. I’ve put in several feature requests but Fender acts like “whatever.” I’m starting on Yousician that does allow lefties! Fender stop the discrimination!! Also following the practice lessons can be difficult if you don’t use the metronome as you have to keep scrolling to see the page. A zoom out feature may be a good option to have or even a reading option for songs so everything is on the same page..Version: 2.12.3

BuggyGrrrr it changed my path to something random and it won’t change it back... clicking on the “make this my path” on anything just makes it twirl and do nothing. Really really annoying You can always see a list of recent lessons but can’t click on anything to get from a lesson to the path, so I’m stuck... unless I want to learn bass guitar funk, which I don’t, the app is now useless When it works it’s great though.Version: 2.11.3

Pretty good, has flaws.First of all, it wouldn’t even let me sign up! Next it won’t let me use it if I don’t pay, are you really that eager for money? If you are looking at downloading this software don’t even waste the time to. It’s a BUST, so go over to guitar tuna and they have a tuner, games and lessons and even free songs to play. This is garbage. This is two days later and all my friends that told me this app was good all deleted it within a day of having it. I have a Fender guitar and even Fender picks. This was not impressive. Maybe next time spend more time on an app that could have made you millions but only made you 6 pennies and lost most of your savings ing your piggy bank. A 5 year old could have made a more successful app in two days that you made in 3 months, that you call an investment. BUMMER, you had so much potential!!!.Version: 2.9.0

Needs an Apple TV appWe would love it if you could develop and release an Apple TV app! The lessons and layout are straight-forward and the subscription delivers everything that it promises to however whenever attempting to AirPlay to Apple TV, the progress bar, play/pause, 30 sec scroll and other on-screen controls are displayed on the TV as well as on the iPhone. When AirPlay gets cancelled reverting back to the iPhone, the on-screen controls disappear with no issue and there is no more visual distraction. By forcing the unnecessary on-screen controls, it obscures the lessons and makes for a discouraging experience for those with visual impairments. We were excited to subscribe and get to learning something new as a family event however crowding around an iPhone display isn’t the greatest experience and makes it more isolating for members of the household due to visual impairment or not being able to have more than one person in on a lesson. Fix this and five stars would be well-earned..Version: 2.20.1

Requires credit card for trialWhen it says it’s not required in the description. entirely misleading.Version: 4.0.0

Practice and feedback modes don’t always workGood lessons and like the feedback and practice modes, but if you try to go between levels/lessons the sound doesn’t work so you have to keep restarting the app..Version: 5.8.0

Fender Play Rocks!Such a cool way to learn guitar. Great instructors, tab, concept. Play along & Feedback mode also excellent. Just wish it would airplay better, Or if there was an app for Apple TV. When you’re watching the instructor video, it doesn’t scroll along with the tab and if your airplay you only see the video not the tab, whereas if you screen mirror you see both but in portrait and with an annoying watermark - playing on your apply TV, and you have to keep stopping to scroll the tab. Otherwise the app is up there with the best for its first iteration. I sure wish I had Fender Play when I started learning. I would highly recommend this experience..Version: 4.15.2

Way too basic and miserably boring!!!Typically I don’t review apps but this one....this one I felt the needed to. It’s under 100 bucks a year which is totally reasonable and I don’t have an issue with that. My issue is with the content. Video is easy to follow and well put together but the instructors are like drones. I mean painfully boring. How can you relate to someone that sounds like a disinterested politician? Now onto the content. If you are a complete noob or just want a refresher to get back into playing you would think “Fender” would be a good resource. NOPE!!! This is so basic you can rip through the entire program in like 5 days and find yourself asking, “Now what?” Personally I think Fender makes great guitars but their instructional content is garbage. Look around and you will find better online lessons..Version: 2.7.1

PaymentsI have been trying to find an app to teach me how to play the guitar but every app I download has a payment plan to learn. But apart from that it looked like a great app to use..Version: 1.8.4

Fender playI tried it and it’s not for me, the app it pretty good but it wasn’t fun for me to do it over and over again and then it just felt like a zoom and I just got bored and it was getting hard very quickly..Version: 4.7.0

I wish I subscribed to Yousician before this...!!!I thought this was going to be cool. It wasn’t..! The problem is the fact that it doesn’t tell you when you make mistakes. If that wasn’t bad enough, I was constantly getting emails about Fender products. Why should I buy a guitar new when I can simply get it on Craigslist. The fact is 90% of people that start the guitar quit during the first year. So there’s plenty of brand new guitars on Craigslist for cheap. But if you like buying brand new, this app does give you 10% off fender products. I was really disappointed till my friends told me to get Yousician.I'm so much happier now. I now practice the guitar for 2-3 lessons a night with Yousician. I’m totally hooked on playing the guitar. I always collected guitars and rare guitar amps, but I’m finally learning to play and Yousician is so much fun..Version: 2.13.0

Subscription RenewalHello, I recently renewed my yearly subscription but it won’t let me use the app. Also it won’t let me restore purchases. Please fix this. Thank you, Adam.Version: 5.8.0

Expensive and limitedSo far I'm far from impressed. $25/month, limited songs, and it doesn't even show you songs from the genre you select when you set it up. Most of my favourite musicians are not on it although they are very popular..Version: 5.2.0

Awesome teachers, App needs workI have been using the Fender Play for about 9 months now, and I can definitely attest to the fact that I’ve learned a lot. The videos that the teachers put together are really well done and quite helpful. Unfortunately those video lessons have been put in a buggy app that is just not well thought out. The bugs seem to be getting worse as I progress. More and more lessons lack the tab that goes with the lesson videos. Or they’ll have good tab in the lessons, but then drop all the note timing signatures when it’s time for you to practice. And now I’m running into lots of lessons where the audio doesn’t match the timing when I get into practice mode. The click track will be normal, but all the notes get jammed together in triple or quadruple time. My biggest gripe with the way the practice mode works is that I can’t repeat just a section that’s giving me problems. And actually, I can’t put it in repeat mode at all to practice. Instead, I have to hit the play button again and wait for the count in. This in one thing where Yousician really shines and Fender just doesn’t..Version: 6.0.3
