✓ Alot of the animes are missingOut of the 19 animes i added to my list on roku app only 4 are available on my iphone/ipad app, other than that the quality is fine and everything runs smoothly even while using mobile data. ✓ Mature content is brokenDownloaded, followed all the instructions for mature content activation, it is broken, set it at the website as instructed, plays one episode then resets all options including subtitle options and will not play next episode. This app is rubbish, can play the same content on other IOS apps (Crunchyroll, AnimeLab) without this headache especially for something that they want you to pay for. ✓ The single worst anime experience money can buyThis app is by far the worst experience you can have watching anime. It has constant bugs and is missing critical features you’d expect from a free service. However, this service costs money. There’s no way to track your watched episodes, no way to quickly go back or forward in an episode, no customization for subtitles, the language frequently changes on its own for no reason, the subtitles randomly change languages for no reason, the next episode box plays a random (sometimes the same episode you were already watching) episode from the show. Those are just a few from the single day I’ve been using it. That isn’t including the abysmal interface, shows not showing that are available on the website, or the various other bugs I don’t want to type out. This isn’t just bad, it’s unusable. ✓ Decent choice of shows, complete lack of function.HIDIVE has some good choices when it comes to watching however this app is so poorly optimised that I end up spending 40% of my time on the app just trying to get it working. ✓ The Most Terrible Streaming App EverThe app is full of bugs. Is it functional enough that you can watch anime if you work around them? Yes, but it’s just so frustrating. I mainly use it on my Apple TV but every episode won’t play unless you pause once and play again after you first open the episode, and now on latest Apple TV OS I can’t pause anymore. When you pause it, it will just keep playing the anime without sound and you cannot unpause it once you are in that state. If you go back to the app’s main screen it will start playing the anime again for some reason and only way to get rid of that phantom background anime is to force restart the app and watch the episode all over again. It’s just a terrible app and I wish there is some developer looking at these reviews to at least fix some of these bugs so that app is at least worth the subscription fee that we are paying for it..Ymiyata3Version: 1.12

✓ Old style appThe anime on here are good and up to date. Also quite a few other anime not found on crunch roll so it is worth having HIDIVE. Just a pity the app itself is lacking and very clunky. It doesn’t play well on apple play(You need to back out and select the next episode every time). It also fails to save where you are up to. ✓ No bug fixes for years.Used to love this app when they first launched, but over the years I have noticed their lack in bug fixes. The last time they did any sort of maintenance was over 3 years ago. Episodes freeze if you pause for a couple of minutes, causing you to restart the episode and manually (they have no skip buttons) fast forwarding to where you left off. The que list barely works. I had fight to add shows, only to give up and then find them added on my list months later. Chunks of titles are pulled at random without any warning. Super irritating if you are binging a show only to find it gone the next day. Subtitles are wonky when you try to adjust the size. I set them to medium but then the sub sentences become out of order. They blamed it on Apple when I reported it, but I never had this issue on Funimation’s app even when I used the biggest font size. And finally, lack of downloads for offline viewing is also jarring. ✓ The worst app I’ve ever used for anything!I just downloaded this app a few days ago because I wanted to watch “Is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?” and I can barely finish one episode. The subtitles move incredibly fast to the point where the character will still be speaking, but it will have already flashed an entire paragraph of words for two seconds before the character finishes what they’re saying. Fast forwarding is difficult, there’s no way to skip intros, and in the app design makes it so hard to find new shows or what you’re looking for without having to type it in. The absolute worst experience I’ve ever had with any streaming service ever, and this company should be ashamed of themselves. ✓ Atrocious UII downloaded this app to be able to watch some shows that are only available on here and have been frustrated from the moment I started the first episode. The UI (user interface) is absolutely abysmal, there is no 10 second skip button, no next episode option so you will have to back out and select the next episode every single time, if you pause or open up a notification it will go back around 5 sec and can become really annoying. It also does not save which episodes you have already watched whenever you close out the app, so you either have to write it down or try to put it to memory. I, also, stream anime on both Funimation and CrunchyRoll and the basic interfaces on those apps are not even a thought on this one. If it wasn’t for the couple of shows that are exclusive to this app I would 100% recommend finding somewhere else to watch anime, especially with how limited it is on here. ✓ Who designed this interface?It plays videos well. The quality of the video is fine, you can switch between English and Japanese easily as well as turning the subtitles on or off just as easily. That being said, that’s really the best quality of this app. It doesn’t have seem or go back 10-15 buttons so you have to scroll to rewind or fast forward. But then your scrolling doesn’t isolate the timeline button on the bottom so your phone thinks you’re trying to swipe through apps, so you end up back where you started in the video. When your video is over there isn’t a play next video option so you have to close the video and choose the next video manually. It’s hard to understand why they didn’t just put fast track or rewind buttons in the player. And you can only watch from full screen, or the seeking issue wouldn’t be as big of a deal. ✓ Terrible app. One of the worst I’ve ever seenI’ve used dozens of streaming services and I thought that Funimation was one of the worst but now I know that Hidive is by far and without question the worst streaming service app. There is no fast forwarding buttons and selecting which version of a video you want to watch is nonsensical. The color palette is all wrong. I know it’s a small design issue but honestly, if you’re going to put the effort into creating an app and service you should care how it looks. The most annoying thing is playing back when you’re moving from an iOS device to the Apple TV. What tends to happen is the Apple TV gets stuck and cannot continue to play so you have to restart the episode then fast forward to the point that you had left off on your iOS device. This is a really silly issue to have at this point and I hope it’s one that hidive fixes immediately. Unfortunately HIDIVE has some of the anime that you can only find on their platform but they do not care enough about their customers to make the experience of enjoying that content easy or reliable..MorphorodVersion: 1.12

✓ My opinionI really think their anime selection is good but their app is another thing. There’s some problems with it which I don’t mind but it sometimes gets annoying. There’s times the video shows 1/4 of the screen and I have to delete the app and download it again in order for it to work properly. Also I think this app should have more options for when we’re in the video. For example I think the app should have an option to skip the intro, skip 10 seconds (which they have that option but only for the website) and have an option to go to the next video without having to exit the video and go to the next one. ✓ By far the worst streaming platform I have ever usedI recommend everyone avoid this garbage app due to its terrible UI on mobile. On iPhone you can’t even use the time scroll due to the fact it’s so low which causes the iPhone to home screen, and on iPad you are unable to select the second season of an anime. HIDIVE also wipes your history after a while so sometimes you will end up losing track if you are watching multiple shows. The only props that can be given to this platform is the fact it actually releases things on time compared to Crunchyroll, however this platform has way too many downsides that can’t be ignored. ✓ Has promise, but it’s currently more trouble than it’s worth.So my biggest issue with this app is that absolutely nothing can be accessed without a membership. With other anime streaming services you can usually watch free with ads to make sure you have some shows there you really like, and then pay for a subscription to remove those ads. As far as I’ve explored the app before giving in, not a single thing can be watched without subscription. Which isn’t necessarily bad, its just a huge gamble since you have to pay before you can look at any of the content in detail, and even with a subscription it is kind of annoying to work. ✓ Poorly Done AppDo they even want people to subscribe? I’m a new user that was looking through the catalogue. Right off the bat, they start recommending content based on some other popular anime. The app doesn’t even try to get to know the user’s preferences but it assumes you like this other anime. Fine, whatever, I look through the listing and selected an anime. Tried to play an episode and lo and behold, the app has that blocked because I’m not a subscriber. Ok, let’s check the subscription plans - oh wait, there’s no subscription screen! Chances are that I need to create an account to see the subscription screen, but at this point I don’t feel like going through that. ✓ Horrible horrible appOverall HIDIVE isn’t bad but the application is the worst. It is not user friendly and takes a million tries to get the video working. It’s almost impossible to scrub through the show if you miss a part or want to go back to where you last were if it’s in between the 7 and 16 minute area because of the bar at the bottom iPhone has. Also the fact it randomly switches languages on me is so annoying. Then it takes forever just to get it back to Japanese. There is now skip button or a next episode, finding a season requires you to go to a different page for that anime. I have also had many times trying to watch an anime with English subtitles to then on the next episode turn to a different language. On an iPhone 12, there is no fast forward or rewind buttons. You have to rely on the video scroll bar... On the other hand,if you use a browser you do get ff and rw buttons and a working video scroll bar. But the subtitles are in the center of the screen, even if you follow their "workaround". Run far away.I have never — NEVER — experienced such a poorly designed streaming app. This may sound unbelievable, but is literally impossible to watch anything beyond the first season of a show on a TV. Airplay DOES NOT WORK period, and when you try to cast anything from the second season, it will just play the first episode of season 1, no matter what you do. I work in software development and I assume either they have a very small, overwhelmed, and probably underpaid (like one person) development team, OR they have a team of extremely incompetent developers. Truly, unbelievably bad and I can't believe I've spent money on this. I urge you to seek other ways of watching these shows, even if it means waiting for the bluray. It will be worth it to save yourself the headache and frustration. Edit: I just noticed the app has not been updated IN TWO YEARS! That's a lifetime in mobile app development!!! This app is soooo bad that it makes me not want to watch any of the great anime on it. I have spent the last 25 minutes trying to get subtitles back on. They just disappear mid episode for 0 reason. Want to skip 15 seconds? Good luck. Want to back up a minute cause a huge thing happened and you didn’t quite get all the details? Lol good luck trying. No fast forward button, no rewind button. I try to use the bar at the bottom and it is so terrible to use, I can’t even drag it without swapping apps. Then when you do get it, the time doesn’t update so you are blindly moving it hoping you find the right time stamp. Spend 15 minutes finding the right spot, press play, boom reset to where you started for 0 reason. This app is actually terrible to use. ✓ Amateurish Beta AppSentai has licensed some great shows, and I have to admit it disappoints me for both the dub quality and because of the execution on this app. I understand there are restrictions and limitations on their ability to deliver on the former, but there is almost no excuse for the latter. While other apps allow you to jump forward or back in 10 or 15 second increments, that option is missing. Additionally, the progress/scrub bar is situated in such a way that it activates my menu bar. I have noticed another issue as well: some multiple-season shows are not accessible under the "season" menu and have to be located individually. Oddly enough, the first season shows as "Season 1" and the second season shows as "Season 2", so I think it might be dirty data causing the seasons to not be grouped together (likely because the titles are slightly different between the seasons). Lastly, why put a help section with an "About the App" tab only to direct the user to go to the site? Why not load the app info within the app? The app feels like a beta that has not fully baked and it causes a lot of frustration as a result..Rey-zeroVersion: 1.2

✓ Difficult to UseI like HIDIVE in general, but the app is INCREDIBLY difficult to use. There are no fast forward/rewind buttons at all (whereas most streaming apps have advanced far adopted the double-tap to rewind/fast forward). Moreover, the timer bar is so close to the bottom of the screen, that even using your finger to fast forward/rewind is pretty impossible because it just moves the whole video. On top of that, it doesn’t always LET me rewind/fast forward. I’ve spent so much time trying in vain to use my finger to move the button thing on the itty bitty timer bar, only for it to automatically go back to the point in the show I was trying to move away from. It got to the point where I just logged in on my computer to restart the episode. The only other thing I don’t like is how big the icons for the shows are when you’re browsing. I think bigger is okay, but I can only see like three shows at a time. Maybe if they were just a teensy bit smaller that would be better..Eda521Version: 1.12

Last updated 2 years since this comment was posted. The subs on tvOS are flipped so first line second and second line first. Reads like Yoda speaks. iOS tragic episode control. No 30sec skip. Scrubber does not work when it’s in the middle because it triggers the app swap screen. Seems like the orientation did not apply to the touch area which seems to portrait when the video is landscape. ✓ Only One StarI never write reviews for apps but HIDIVE has won the opportunity. They have succeeded in creating a very mediocre app with horrible functionality and effectiveness. The interface and service of this app is just extremely terrible. I created an account and purchased their monthly subscription in order to watch the english dub version of ’Haikyu’, but quickly realized that I shouldn’t have. Firstly, I tried login in (to the app) soon after signing up, and it wouldn’t let me log in when all the credentials were 100% correct. I had to change my password and it still wouldn’t let me sign in after countless times (and multiple devices). Luckily I decided to take a look at the reviews and decided to log into the website, and fortunately I was able to login. But still the problems didn’t stop, after finding the show and deciding to watch it on the tv… both the website and applications wouldn’t connect with my AirPlay tv. I get that the app/website might not support it but if you're going to have a subscription based service at least make it more accessible for users to use….— LVersion: 1.12

I have the iOS subtitle settings at the recommended default and half the time the subs are reversed, with the second line of text displayed before the first line in a sentence. There’s no easy 10/15 second rewind button, which other apps have and is even baked into the default iOS video player. I had to redownload the app recently to reset everything because a recent update made it stay at the initial loading screen forever. When looking at a show’s episodes, swiping from the left edge of the screen doesn’t go back a view, it always opens the hamburger menu which is frustrating. You have to move your finger all the way up to the back button. What’s even worse is when you’re on the main home screen, the behavior is reversed! Swiping from the left edge when you have shows in your queue doesn’t do anything! You’d expect the hamburger menu to open this time, but it doesn’t! You again have to reach up to the top left to tap the icon to see it. I have been using HD entirely via their website on an iPad Pro with Firefox as a browser and have had very little drama. My only issue came about when the full screen view would drop the subtitles, but a couple of clicks brought me to the fix of enabling subtitles in Apple Accessibility settings. The website allows scrolling and jumping in ten second increments and setting whatever language/subtitle pairings you want from available translations. I have found everything to work just as well or better than CR’s app, just that it’s web browser based instead. The quality hasn’t wavered below max and I have had only one stoppage, probably due to my own family maxing out our home bandwidth at the same time. For all those people saying don’t bother with HD just because of the app, you are doing your fave shows a disservice because those licensing fees go back to the studios, animators and mangakas. There isn't as large of a library, I also found it hard to look for anime, when scrolling through sections it loops, this can cause you to look over the same shows multiple times without noticing. There is also a problem with showing the seasons of the anime. There is a tab once you select the anime you wish to watch, but chances are the anime’s second season is considered a deferent show and is not visible in the tab. If you’v watched an anime and want to continue where you left off you will have to remember the episode as the feature that is supposed to do that doesn’t even work half the time. Once you start to watch an anime there is some problems with the the user interface. There is no forward or backward buttons to skip though the anime like if I wanted to skip through an intro. Why dont I just use the slide bar to skip forward? On IOS the home tab or line blocks the way. If I try to tap on the bar it ends up sending me to the home screen. I also found that the anime cant be paused when trying to skip forward, as if you pause it and skip forward it moves you back to your previous time stamp. ✓ The app is actually horribleHonestly I thought that these reviews were probably being overly critical but no. They’re pretty accurate. Whoever green light the app design and layout should be fired immediately. As should whoever actually designed it. And if it was a third party don’t touch them with a 10ft pole ever again. The covers are all pixelated, not as bad as some people claimed but pretty bad. Instead of having a nice spaced layout like every other streaming service the content is laid out one DIRECTLY on top of the other, with no space in between. Additionally there is only one title in a row, it’s genuinely just one stacked on top of the other, and you can only fit 3 on the size of your screen. It’s all grey with oversized icons and the only way to swap between for example “recently added” and “most popular” is to swipe across like 5 times. But that’s not that far really. Not when you consider there’s probably about FIFTEEN of the tabs you have to slide through ONE BY ONE or at best skip a few at a time by clicking the rotating banner at the top (they haven’t even put it all somewhere you can easily access it by just tapping to the other end). So if you want to get to whatever the last tab is you have to swipe the WHOLE way to it and if you want to go back to the start you have to swipe the whole way back. Honestly it would have a better user interface if they just blatantly copied the McDonald’s self serve machines. Even without changing the names of the tabs from “beef” and “chicken” because it’s already so horribly organised that trying to figure out if your show is more like red or white meat would probably be easier than how it is now. EVEN when I finally start scrolling, sometimes I miss some parts so I go back to rewind a little, after doing do, it goes back to where I was left off, like for example: I’m at 8:42 for an anime, and I wanted to go back like 5-10 seconds, it freezes, then after successfully scrolling to my destination, IT GOES BACK TO 8:42. Then I have to repeat the entire process after another. HIDIVE, please just sign a license to VRV again because that was so much better to watch it on. Or at least update ur app to make it more friendly to use. Did I forget the next or previous episode buttons? Did I also forget the “resume” watching doesn’t do squat at all? There all terrible. ✓ Horrible appI never write reviews in the App Store, never. But I had to for this one. This app is horrible, the fact that the last time they updated this app was 2 years ago (according to the App Store) and the app is still running surprises me. I’m glad I used the free trial instead of paying for a year like I wanted to. Loading up a video shows up an infinite loading wheel, until I click play, stop and the play would the video load and play. It takes forever for the show to load the episode list, bunch of errors. And this is with 1-2 hours of app use. How does apple with their strict rules let an app developer not update their app as it can potentially cause privacy risks. How does crunchyroll even allow a mediocre anime streaming service to get rights to certain popular anime? Hidive must put all its money on having show in their apps and barely enough to keep the app alive Edit: I wish I could give it 0 stars, app is getting worse by the day. Doesn’t show episodes you’ve watched, can’t put anything on queue, and now I can’t pause. If I pause, the stream will continue to play with no sound. ✓ I literally got this to watch one thing and I lowkey regret itThe app itself is AWFUL! Glitchy, slow, confusing and hard to understand interface unlike other apps like Funimation and Crunchyroll. They are obviously trying to compete and could do pretty well with the selection they have the the subscription price, but the app itself is terrible. No screen on screen play, no fast forward rewind, I can’t even drag the play bar to skip the intro, confusing set ups all around, browsing the app is confusing and overstimulating as it’s just pull screenshots of the anime itself. ✓ Playability IssuesI am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 17.0.3. There are four highly notable problems from my first use of the app. 1. App does not appear to retain subtitle settings between closing the app and opening it again, even if not fully closed. 2. Pause doesn’t necessarily pause playback, instead acts as mute by cutting sound from video playback, and subtitles still update along with the video as proof of playback. 3. Seeking is nearly non-existent. No rewind or fast forward buttons (-10/+10 seconds). Timelapse bar is almost untouchable due to phone trying to change apps. 4. Subtitles are placed in the middle of video playback rather than at the bottom. Not worth messing around with my phone settings just to see if I can have them positioned correctly. I understand that the subscription fee is relatively low in comparison to competitors such as Crunchyroll and Netflix, however that shouldn’t mean such important key features should be overlooked when it comes to the quality of the app. I’m keeping my free month of subscription time to watch some anime that I can’t find on competitor sites then leaving this behind as quickly as possible. ✓ The App was never great and now it’s just getting worseOkay so the HiDive app has never been a great app let’s be honest but if you wanted to stream some shows since they took their rights back or some more niche shows and not resort to the the torrent sites then you paid your money to HiDive and you dealt with what they called their so called app. But somehow this app seems to be getting worse, pause now just means sound goes off while it keeps playingin the background, finding the second season of some shows is hit and miss but it will find it if you play the last episode of season one, rembering what episode you were up too and where you where up to in the episode well let’s not even go there…so really the shows they offer can be worth it…the level of frustration you can face for your subscription though…oh and if you expect your shows to play with English subs because that is what you have set it up to play with…nope even though it’s default as the setting for some reason it will go to Spanish unless they have only done the English sub release at that time… so for show wise I love the app for use wise I hate it….StenislavVersion: 1.12
