FrustratingLimited chord extension choices chords are squashed together in the same octave with no options to change it chord extensions with guitar option enabled have buggy playback. and because of the limited choice for voicings in my previous point it sounds unnatural and confusing you can't easily delete chords out of your existing progression for some reason without starting a new project chord suggestion feature is confusing because it forces you to replace the existing chord you have selected with the suggested next chord... in which case how can i use that to actually create a progression then?? i do think this app has the potential but these subtle issues are so frustrating and prevent this from being an actually useful songwriting tool. i highly recommend Scaler VST from plugin boutique. they are not mobile but it is undoubtedly the best chord prog tool..... nothing gets even close.Version: 3.5.8

Good but lacking certain featuresNice app with colorful UI; however, lacking features such as manual chord inversions. Chord Suggester is another paid app that has more features and additional voicings..Version: 3.4.5

Too expensiveI love learning to play music and spend a lot of time using these kind of apps. This is a very useful app but compared to others that do the same thing and more it is much too expensive for the functions it does..Version: 3.2.3

It’s okay but needs more. This is a very good app for songwriting if your a beginner or pro but I have realised that you can’t do sus chords and I would wish for that to be added as I did pay for it and was expecting all chords to be created. I believe also that there should be a option for you to create a chord of your choice for example Fsus4 by all instruments. You should be able to click onto a instrument of choice and be giving the fret (for example of guitar) and be able to click on a note on a fret and build a chord of your choice and then go from their in the app..Version: 3.0.9

App breaking bugBeen loving this app. However after renaming a song I had been working on, the app hard locked where it just turned to a dark grey screen. Cool, apps crash. Close app and reopen it. Shows TONALY logo then goes back to grey screen. Cool, guess I’ll delete it and redownload, it has cloud save so I won’t lose anything. Amazing that works. However the app will soft lock to the grey screen whenever I try to do anything. I can look at my songs that I’ve already worked on but add a line? Lock to grey screen. So app is unfortunately unusable for me at this current state. Pretty sad..Version: 3.2.4

Great idea, lacklustre featuresWas looking for a tool to help me write songs, saw the advertisement on Instagram and it seemed like something I’d be interested in... I really hope there are more features in the future like changing from 4/4 to 3/4 and doing more than just 8 bars. More chord variations would be great too.... Very disappointed in this app because it has potential but feels extremely barebones. I wouldn’t be so critical if this was a free app... unfortunately it is not. I hope the developer updates this app with features so I can re-review the app and use it for writing music..Version: 1.1.2

Am I missing something?Soooo please tell me if I’m just not using it right, but this isn’t the most diverse app in the world re: rhythm. There don’t seem to be options for changing strumming patterns for guitar, all down strokes on the beat and you can only add two chords to a measure via the split tool. If you’re trying to do anything beyond generating chord tabs, this ain’t the one. I wish it was, but I was hoping for something more like a portable DAW and less like an ultimate tabs . com generator. Again- PLEASE tell me if I’m just missing something. I’ve watched some tutorials and seem to have hit the bottom of this app rather quickly..Version: 3.2.9

LimitationsThe chord choices are limited. For example, you can’t do certain altered chords like dominant 7 b5b9. Suspended cords are their own category so you couldn’t do dominant 9 sus 4. My favorite chord of all time, the 6/9 is also missing. This app automagically does inversions so that sometimes makes things weird. My verse went up an octave on the second playback for example. The slash chords may not sound the way you want either with the automagic. Another annoyance is not being able to tie in chords from the previous bar. For example, in 4/4 time if I put in a dotted half note, I want to be able to use time longer than a quarter into the next bar. You can try to finagle this by altering tempo and getting things to fit into bars, but that ruins your entire structure. This app is promising but I was disappointed. I hesitate to suggest features, but if you’re still listening at this point then I might suggest adding a method for inserting melody; it would give some use to the keyboard which just seems to otherwise be in the way of the songwriter..Version: 3.5.6

Decent but why are there in-app purchasesThis app is $5.99 up front and has a decent chunk of useful practice and writing material but requires $2.99 purchases to unlock more things. For example in the Scales practice mode (the main reason I purchased the app) you get 7 scales to work on but need to pay an additional $2.99 for the other 80 scales , most of which are the ones I intended to use when I got the app🤦🏼‍♂️. I get that some in-app purchases are necessary and I would totally understand if it was a free app but it is already a higher cost in the App Store than most apps so I don’t think you get your money’s worth on it..Version: 3.2.3

Major or 7th chords all or nothing?I try not to review things before I’ve spent a good amount of time with them, but maybe the developer can help me out - is there no way to set progression mode to a minor key?? It seems like you can only switch from EVERYTHING major key to EVERYTHING 7th chords. Maybe there’s a good music theory-oriented reason for this (I bought this ap relatively ignorant of theory after all), but these seem like really basic things - especially the major/minor key signature aspect. All that said, I’m already enjoying and seeing the potential in the ap as is and fully intend to continue using it..Version: 1.0.5

Very limited sound in songwriting modeNice user interface and great for learning theory. However, the addition of arpeggio patterns for chords and inversion voicings or any type of chord rhythm pattern is missing. Also, the option to set the duration and length of notes within a chord or mute a particular note in the songwriting mode is really missing..Version: 3.3.0

Could be amazingI must say this app has so much potential. The exporting to midi is amazing but the biggest issue I have is that you can’t change what fret to play the chord on. It shows you alternative finger placements but I need to switch to that finger placement... a B sounds great with a F#m but not when the B is on the 7th fret and not the third. If a feature when you changed the alternative fingers it also changed the chord to that fret this would be a easy 5 star.Version: 3.0.2

It’s okI think the app would be best for someone who has more experience writing songs, but in that case they probably wouldn’t need an app to memorize there circle of fifths. There are many online tools for the circle of fifths, which is what this app is basically about. If the app was more user friendly, and more beginner based, and had drum tracks and more, it would be worth the 7 dollars, app should be free based on its value. I haven’t used it once. Beginner at songwriting, been playing for a few years, just learning to improvise and write my own songs and sing..Version: 3.5.4

Poor privacy **UPDATED** worse than I thoughtUPDATE 5/5/21: A closer look into their data policies reveals that they provide our personal data to at least 3 other companies, each with their OWN privacy policies. Once again, kudos to Apple for forcing companies to reveal this in a way most of us can understand. The following is from the app privacy policy where they tell you where your private data is being sent. “Facebook Analytics for Apps: Personal Data: Usage Data; various types of Data as specified in the privacy policy of the service Facebook Lookalike Audience: Personal Data: Cookies; Usage Data TestFlight: Personal Data: device logs; email address Sentry: Personal Data: various types of Data as specified in the privacy policy of the service.” When I purchase a product, I expect to get and use the product without it being a spy inserted into my life. I’m deleting this app, and would never have purchased it if they had disclosed it was spyware at the time I purchased it. Kudos to Apple for requiring these folks to disclose their data collection policies..Version: 3.2.7

Frustrating and frankly useless appSo I am in songwriting mode… I choose the chords I want, but no way will it let me use the chords I actually want in my song!!! Basically, the chord substitution feature absolutely does not work. You tell this useless app the chord you want to substitute, and it puts back in the same wrong chord it had previously selected. By way of example, take a simple, well-known E Dorian tune… like Riders on the Storm by the Doors as an example - it is completely IMPOSSIBLE to enter the correct chords!!! so unless you only want to “compose” utterly bland songs to a formula, this app is completely useless. Why even offer the suggestion that chords can be substituted in song, when clearly they cannot be? Yet another useless app that promises way more than it delivers… but at least it has shown me that in terms of composing, I have still found nothing to beat Abletom Live, whether you are just playing with ideas or have actually got a bit of structure in mind to begin with..Version: 3.3.2

Ehhh ....Normally, I would give this app five stars. However, when I tried to export it as a midi file and add it to my GarageBand it starts making a noise that wasn’t happening on the app originally. I am not sure if that’s a branded sound effect for using the app or maybe somethings wrong with the app. I feel that with the limited amount of instruments that you provide I should be able to export it put it onto GarageBand and manipulated in which ever way I would like. Which would aid in making music a bit more. This would be really grateful for beginners (speaking for myself) but now I have to sit here and slightly struggle with making chords on the iPad. Maybe I’m doing something wrong please let me know what I can do to change the alien noise that I hear or let me know if it’s not going to stop. Or at least if this is a branded sound affect please let me pay for it to disappear, SOMETHING, just make it go away..Version: 3.0.0

IPad workflow issuesTwo initial comments. First is that this app is slick and functional as others suggest, with the second point echoing the weird two-step pricing; worth £6 so why not just offer it all in one go? My real concern though is that the app exports Midi files, while GarageBand on iPad asks for many formats but not this one. I can see my file but cannot import it..Version: 2.0.3
