Whole Eats for Negative User Reviews

Not official or always accurateJust learned today that the Whole30 program is working on an official W30 app and that others in the App Store claiming to be accurate are not endorsed by W30 and, often times are inaccurate. I’m quite disappointed learning this 15 days into the program which also likely explains why many items did not scan which I knew for sure were W30 approved. I just hope this app didn’t steer me wrong on some foods that were not compliant yet scanned as ‘approved.’ Will be requesting a refund for this app..Version: 1.2.0

It’s okay, room for improvementI’m just starting out and this is definitely better than nothing! But most of what I’m scanning isn’t in the database so I haven’t been able to rely on the barcode feature. (Trader Joe’s, for example) The barcode was my main reason for purchasing so in that regard I’m a little bummed. Some ideas: - I mostly shop at Trader Joe’s for whole30 and very few of the foods I scanned were in the database. An option for user submitted foods could help build the database? - I’d love a way to choose my landing page for when I open the app. At launch, it’s on the welcome page. Then I need to select the menu bar before I can get anywhere. - a counter or countdown on the app’s badge, or a widget, that shows what day you’re on would be cool! I think this app has real promise, especially if the barcode scanner works with significantly more food items.Version: 1.2.2

Total waste of moneyI was excited to find a well rated app to help me get through the questions I would surely have along the way. The barcode scanner is what really sold me. My first trip to Trader Joe’s I scanned a few barcodes, not one is recognized. I think okay, it’s their label, maybe I’m asking too much. Next stop, Whole Foods, same outcome. Surely it’s me... so I type ‘yucca’ in the ingredient search and again I’m disappointed. The recipe section brings you to Instagram. Okay I have already followed that myself, didn’t need a paid app to bring me there. How frustrating! I spent money for this crap? Don’t get suckered in like I did, just google your questions and follow whole30 recipes on Instagram. You’re welcome, you can send me your $2.99 because I just did about as much work as the app does..Version: 1.2.5

Not really worth itThere are very few useful tools in this app. It’s kind of a waste of money. The barcode scanner is convenient but it’s quicker to just read the ingredients list. And the approved food list feature is exactly the same as just typing an ingredient followed by “whole 30” In search bar, the very first thing that comes up is whether it’s approved or not. And I don’t need an app to count down my 30 days...I’m painfully aware of the time already. What would have been great is a recipe database and even better one where you could enter a couple of ingredients and have recipe results using what you have in refrigerator. Even some fun notifications or badges to get you through the days..Version: 1.2.7

Inaccurate and unhelpful! Do not waste money on this!!!The first two items I scanned were completely wrong. I scanned an enchilada sauce that contained wheat flour- it erroneously came up as APPROVED. I also scanned a curry sauce that contains lentils, which erroneously came up as APPROVED. The ingredient list of approved/not approved foods is far too short and basic. I emailed the developer and have not yet received a response. Asking for my money back- will update with what happens. Very disappointing purchase..Version: 1.2.8

Ok but could be betterA helpful app but only finds 20-30% of products I scanned. The search by text doesn’t show product brand. The UI could use some tweaks that would make it more user friendly. To developers: Thank you for creating this app. It has potential. I’m a UX designer and would love to help you make this better. Reach out if you’re interested..Version: 1.2.4

Good but sometimes inaccurateThis is a good idea. I started scanning some of my canned food to see if it was compliant with the app. Some I expected to be compliant and they were. Some I expected NOT to be compliant and they were. But there were also NOT compliant foods coming back compliant! My example was a can of beans. In addition, the food database needs to be updated with more food. I like the application. It just needs to mature and fix the bugs. Thanks for the app team..Version: 1.0.6

Deffinitely a waste of $$$I wish I had read the critical reviews. It truly is an empty app. There is no recipe database, just links to Instagram. You can't search by meal or food type. Total waste. Every time you try to use the app, the pop up to connect to Instagram interferes with your attempts to search for whatever little information it does have on hand. Also, found it very interesting that the "feedback" link doesn't work either. Total crap, do not waste your time or money..Version: 1.2.7

Disappointed CanadianI just down loaded the app, the two items I have tried to scan the bar code are not recognized by the USFD, that’s because it’s not an American product. It is geared towards the USA. Disappointed!.Version: 1.2.5

Good potential but lackingI was so excited when I came across this app, as I just started the whole30 for the first time. Seeing as this isn’t a free app I had some higher expectations. When I go to use the barcode feature I’d say at least 50% of the items are recognize... and I’m talking popular items found at Costco or Trader Joe’s. How have these not been added to the list? I also scanned a barcode listed on a ranch dressing bottle made specifically for whole30 and it told me it wasn’t approved so it made me very weary of how accurate the results from the barcode scan even are. That being said, when a barcode is recognized, this app is a huge timesaver..Version: 1.2.4

UI is trash and scanning database isn’t bigThe UI isn’t put together very well. The database for approved items isn’t very big. So far most the items I’ve scanned wasn’t found in their system. Definitely feels half a$$ed. I.e. when you go to recipes.. it’s not even giving you recipes. It forwards you to the whole30 Instagram page. Like duh I’ll check out recipes there too, but I got this app to have more resources. Also, You’re probably thinking, “oh they will probably update the app.” It’s been 4 months since the app has been updated on this day of my review. Save your money and don’t get this app..Version: 1.2.5

Waste of moneyThis app is a waste of money because all of the information can be easily found online. I love how the app connects you to an Instagram account. Like I didn’t need an app to do that, I was already following the app. Also what if you don’t have IG? I expected way more from this app and am hugely disappointed. I want a refund!.Version: 1.2.4

Not worth the $This app could use a creative design team. It’s very boring. Although you will get a rah rah message every day, if you recorded you start date. So much is needed here.... a page to track meal plans, what you’ve eaten, recipes you want to cook, a log as to how your feeling... there’s just a few ideas. Also, if you want to look at the recipes page, you better have an Instagram or this recipe “page” is useless because it takes you to an external link for IG!.Version: 1.2.7

AngryIs there a way on this app to search recipes without having Instagram? I am assuming that your app is not selectively geared toward those with Instagram. I got this app for recipe ideas and now cannot figure out how to get recipes. Also, the scanner didn’t work with most of the foods at my grocery store. With all of your bad ratings, there is no way you have a 4.4 / 5 as your app suggests. I want a refund and there is not a place on your app purchase receipt in iTunes to get a refund. So I tried emailing and no one replied. I am really appalled that you treat your customers like this..Version: 1.2.4

CrashKeeps crashing not usable.Version: 1.0.6

Not worth the value for the $$If you have to give a one page direction up Front then you’re not developing an intuitive app. If you want people to set start date, then that should be the first thing to display the first time you use the app (instead of hiding in the menu). And where is the Ok or submit button? wasn’t sure if the date was set or not. Everything on the menu should be a button on the front screen. The recipe is just a link to the Instagram page, and the IG page is a bunch of marketing crap instead of recipes. So the only function if the entire app is to tell me if a product is compliant or not? To me that’s not worth $2.99, I could’ve google’d! Definitely don’t need the lame encouragement, I need practical things like recipes, ideas, a tool to track what I ate and show me what things I did well and what I fall Short. Can I get my $$ back?.Version: 1.2.7

Not for UKMostly useless as database appears to be US-centric.Version: 1.1.9

Day10okI liked this app in the beginning of my 30 days because it was all new to me. But I’m finding there’s really not much in it to rely on. The food lookup is all there really is and I can do that with a list of approved foods, which is not that hard to remember anyway. I really wish it was more interactive and had more functions-like a good diary, and daily diary of thoughts, excercise, and a group chat type function. The daily one-liners to encourage are just from the book, so it’s be better to have something relevant but new..Version: 1.2.2

Paying for ads? This app has some good recipes although some that claim to be whole 30 compliant are not. It’s also super annoying that I paid for the app but there are still pop up ads. And they’re not even remotely related. I wish whole30 actually made an app. This one strives to cover many different diet plans..Version: 1.2.1

ReviewI was really excited about this app, kinda skeptical with spending 2.99 without a trial. But I hate that you can’t favorite a recipe and it will automatically add it to your shopping list. It just takes you to the whole 30 Instagram...I can do that on my own which was disappointing. Hopefully the scanner will be useful but reading some of the review who knows how good it will be..Version: 1.2.5

Don’t waste your $ Canadians - no refunds givenApp has NO mention it only works if searching USA products (UPC barcodes that are FDA only approved). In short, Canadians are not welcome here and no refunds will be given. Top notch service!.Version: 1.2.4

I think this app is terribleIf you live in Canada do NOT buy this stupid app. It doesn’t recognize any of the barcodes..Version: 1.2.1

What’s with the recipes section? This app is ok, it’s not very pretty to look at but you can scan (not everything) and you can search ingredients. It also has a recipes section that is more than pretty useless. It used to be skinnytaste’s website, and now it links directly to the whole30 recipes Instagram. So basically you can click through to about 30 different links to actually find a recipe. Don’t have a recipes section then if you’re not providing anything with it..Version: 1.2.4

UI Needs Much ImprovementWould prefer the app to open with a search and not lengthy scrollable text (not important). Buttons would be phenomenal as opposed to navigating a menu bar (important). Most importantly, I would value the option to add an ingredient from the search directly to my grocery list. For example, if I discover that salmon is compliant, I could tap a plus sign and add it to my list, rather than have to navigate to a different menu and input salmon all over again. Then go back to search for another and repeat. For looking up additives, though, it is incredibly useful. Looking forward to updates!.Version: 1.2.7

Great ingredient resourceThe app it a moderate motivator, and a great ingredient resource, but should incorporate a food/exercise diary..Version: 1.2.2

I don’t have a back buttonI just got this app to do my Whole30 and it’s super frustrating. I scan a product to see if it approved or not and then I have to close the app completely out to be able to scan another product. *have been instructed to swipe right or left to go back to screen. Worked one out of the 5 times when I scanned an items. Still not good :/.Version: 1.3.5

Recipe & (unconnected) grocery functions are disappointingRecipes are basically just a mobile version of the Skinnytaste website, so they take a long time to load with all the photos, ads, and pop ups. Along with that loses the one item I bought the app for - connectivity between the recipes and grocery list (there is none). You would think if the two were advertised in the same app then they would be connected, but I suppose I’ve learned my lesson on making assumptions. :-(.Version: 1.2.1

Doesn’t workI absolutely hate this app. I spend more time trying to find the items on this crap app than reading the ingredients myself. The scan doesn’t always work because a lot of items aren’t there. Sometimes I’ll scan something and it’ll give me a long list of items that are under the same company but the item I am looking for is not there. What is the point of making an app for a purpose and not do it well? If this app was free, I wouldn’t even use it..Version: 1.2.4

There are ADS! ..Somewhat helpful app, but the recipe section is frustrating.First off, I strongly disagree with the fact that there are ads shown in the recipe section even though this app cost $2.99. The ads are annoying and cover what I’m trying to look at, and I’m constantly having to close them. On another note, there needs to be a way to filter your search results when you’re searching for recipes. For instance, I am doing the whole 30 diet and I was looking for a salad dressing recipe.. I typed in “dressing” and all different kinds of dressings came up that weren’t Whole 30 approved. I couldn’t find any sort of option to filter the results to only include Whole 30 options. I feel like this app is basically a waste of time because after taking all the time to scroll through all the dressing recipes (trying to find the ones that are whole 30 approved), I might as well have just googled it. The last thing I am disappointed in, is that many food items that I look up apparently “can’t be found” in the system or something, even when I manually type it the number. Also, the barcode scanner doesn’t always work. Sometimes it says “no barcode detected”. Overall I’m pretty disappointed that this cost $2.99 considering what I got, and of course, the fact that there are advertisements..Version: 1.2.2

Gave wrong info!I scanned a creamer, Califia Better Half Coconut Cream & Almondmilk Vanilla. Your app said it’s approved. I TRUSTED it. My husband read the container after three days of using it and gave me the bad news. I double checked with my Keep Calm & Whole30 on group. Everyone and the admin said it is not approved and there is no official Whole30 app- that these apps are notoriously wrong! I WAS round 1day 21. I have to start over again. I’m very upset with myself and your app. Please give me my money back! I sent an email. This really mentally and emotionally messed with me..Version: 1.2.7

Would be better if the barcode feature worked properlyBought this app so I could scan items in the grocery store and literally everything I scan says it cannot be found. So I primarily use the recipe and ingredient search feature which are both solid. Worth the money but am rating it 3 stars because the feature I downloaded the app for doesn’t work..Version: 1.2.2

Don't waste your moneyFor a free app, this would be great. The barcode reader often either didn't recognize foods or gave me a completely different food than what I scanned and said it wasn't whole 30 compatible when it in fact was. The ingredient search also didn't include almost every ingredient I was looking for, such as chia seed. Those were the two big reasons I downloaded it and neither measured up..Version: 1.3.8

Decent App OverallDecent app overall. I like the 30 day countdown. Also, the scan and search feature is nice. They have a recipe section, as well. I appreciate the recipe option, however, there is an annoying Instagram pop up in the recipe section. I understand the recipe section works better with Instagram, but I don’t want to do Instagram. It continually pops up with each recipe, as I’m trying to read it. When I select the back button, it does nothing. If I hit it more than once, it takes me to the home screen. If this issue can be corrected, I’d be happy to give five stars..Version: 1.2.5

US ONLYI downloaded this app as it was highly recommended to use while doing whole30 but it only works in the US. DO NOT download if you live in Canada... why they create apps like this that don’t work for everyone is beyond me....Version: 1.2.6

DecentThe app is decent. It has a few good whole30 recipes, but only about 10-15 and you can find these recipes online. You can’t save them or get to them any easier than if you typed it into google. The barcoding system is decent, but there were many barcodes that weren’t in the system yet. The app in its entirety is just decent. I wish they’d have a lot more recipes (sorted by categories) with easier access, a better and more exciting countdown format and more barcodes in their system..Version: 1.2.2

Not the most helpful or legitDeli meat is not a compliant whole30 item and shouldn’t be listed as approved. Most deli meats have carrageenan which is not allowed on the plan. There are a lot of duplicate items also shown with spelling issues. Just makes it look like a cheap app that’s not much of a credible source. Many people take their whole30 plan seriously and when there are apps to support it that include false information, it’s frustrating. Especially when there’s a fee to purchase the app..Version: 1.1.8

Not what expectedSave your money. This app is useless. I thought as a paid app it would have more uses and features vs simply looking up whether or not a food is whole 30 approved. Barcode Scanner did not work for me. Journal like adding a note. Not impressed..Version: 1.3.8

It’s just a list of approved foods & an inconsistent scannerThis app doesn’t doo much. You have to add in your own items for the grocery list. It should be able to add to your list through the approved foods. It doesn’t save the last grocery list. The grocery list doesn’t give you room for quantities — do I need 5 bananas or 6 bananas? Well you’d have to add that as a new item. Can you edit an item in your grocery list? Nope. It’s like an app made from DOS/Basic programming language. Not a time saver. Don’t waste your money. May I have a refund? One day in and I already can’t stand it. I think Carb Manager is much more effective..Version: 1.2.4

Awful appI downloaded this app thinking I could get a lot of useful info while doing whole30. However, it doesn’t update the days. It doesn’t have half of the packages I scan and when it does bring a product up, it’s not the same product as what I scanned. It does the same for ingredients - I tried putting in some ingredients and got no results. If I could get my money back, I 100% would..Version: 1.3.1

Very disappointed, wildly inaccurateI purchased this app for the convenience of not having to check lists for approved ingredients and the ease of not having to google things. Well most of the stuff I’ve tried to scan and a few ingredients I’ve tried to look up (i.e. oat milk, seems common enough that should be on there) have not been on there. I was frustrated there, but then what actually caused me to come write the review is that there are things on here that are just wrong! I’d rather you have not listed an ingredient or a product than give an “approved” or “not approved” if it isn’t accurate! My example is cashew milk - I scanned different kinds (all unsweetened) at the store and each one said not approved. I remember reading that cashew milk was okay as long as it wasn’t sweetened so I started looking at the ingredients and searching each one on the app, on google, and looking at my list of approved ingredients and they were all fine! Google even has 7 websites saying these cashew milks are fine. Overall very disappointed, wish I could get my money back, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY you’re just going to have to google everything anyway.Version: 1.2.7

Not alway rightThis app came in handy at the store and wasn’t sure about something- and saved time not having to read labels as much. That is, until half way through my whole 30 I realized it said things were approved that really aren’t. Larabars with vanilla extract aren’t allowed and the app says they are. ? Makes me wonder what else wasn’t right. I see now that’s a pretty basic no-no. Another thing is a lot of items aren’t in the database. It’s getting there, but needs better accuracy and time to build the database up..Version: 1.1.3

Can’t find productsNot a great app if you live out of the US. I can’t scan any products and the ingredients I can search is quite limiting. If you don’t live in America I wouldn’t waste your time with this app as the features that can be used in other countries aren’t worth it..Version: 1.2.4

Waste of money! If I could give no stars I would. I scanned over 20 items in the grocery store and it couldn’t recognize any of them. I finally tried a big name brand item and it still didn’t recognize it. This app obviously doesn’t work if you want to use the scanner. What a waste. Then I tried searching organic cauliflower just to see if anything would work and it didn’t even show up. This app is a scam! Google, which is free, can help you more than this app can..Version: 1.2.2
