The Room: Old Sins for Negative User Reviews

Dumbed down and a battery drainer - disappointedTechnically very good but the puzzles became increasingly repetitive and pretty easy/predictable - no where near as challenging as previous episodes and not up to the expectation - quite boring towards the end - if its the first Room experience you’ll probably have really enjoyed it but I completed it really quickly which I couldn't do that with the other episodes. We know the release was delayed - I think it should have been delayed further to make sure it matched or bettered the previous - maybe it was rushed out - always going to be difficult given their high standards and reputation - still the best series out there and good imagination, but could have been so much better. Also noted it really drains your battery - 50% down in a 1hr session - that’s crazy! Hopefully the next one will be back to the earlier standard and they sort out the power drain. It came on the back of an iOS upgrade so that may have contributed..Version: 1.0.3

Very good but not up to the Room 3Sorry if this sounds harsh, have waited eagerly for this, played it and enjoyed it but that was about it. There were areas in the Japanese room, the garden and the artists room that looked as though they should have things placed upon them but the area closed off with these parts awaiting something, is that right or did I miss something? If I did then surely the game shouldn’t have let me continue. The storyline was good, puzzles were a little contrived, not up to the standard of the Room 3, the ending (The Attic) was sadly mind numbingly repetitive. Knowing how hard everybody must have worked on this it saddens me to say it but say it I must. Will there be another? I sincerely hope so as I constantly rave about the other 3 games and how brilliant they are but I am not sure where this story could go now. A good game, a very good game but lacking the sparkle and imagination of its predecessors..Version: 1.0.3

Japanese Room Bug (spoiler alert)This is not about an actually creepy crawler, but rather a glitch 😛 So I’ve just gotten the circular item under the clam, and I put the unfinished wooden box on top of the pagoda and did the gold slider to the left and added the circular item. Then I went to see if I was supposed to move it around, and the unfinished box came off... even though the red supports were still up. Now all of the sudden, the game thinks I haven’t added the circular item. I know this because I couldn’t figure out what to do next and the next hint told me to put the box on the pagoda, and then I left it there and the hint after was telling me about the gold slider to the left and about putting the circular item on it. It’s already on it, and I can see that the shape on the bottom has changed, but as soon as I remove the unfinished box, the shape on the bottom is back to a full star and there is no circular item on it. I tried fitting it into both of the shapes I see and figure it is supposed to go to one... but it’s not recognizing it. I tried replacing the box, doing the slider again, then putting the slider back at the top to see if that worked. It didn’t. This is pretty frustrating as there’s nothing I can do to go on in the game. Please fix!!!.Version: 1.0.4

BugJe suis dans le menu des profils et il est impossible d’aller plus loin. Donc impossible pour moi de jouer au jeu et j’en suis très déçue car The Room est une de mes séries préférées. PLEASE FIX IT..Version: 1.0.4

Drop in difficulty and durationThis episode seems to have significantly reduced both the difficulty and length of the story. I could perhaps imagine that I am gradually getting smarter, but I suspect that clearing the game with no hints this time is not entirely my doing! Previous episodes had me stumped on a number of occasions, and the change here is noticeable. The puzzles that are present are fun but never require much lateral thought, everything is spelled out pretty clearly and most should easily see the ending within 4 hours. And that ending may well hint at the reason for the change in difficulty, and shorter play time. I suspect that the next episode well be along pretty shortly as there is clearly a wider story arc in the making. Fireproof need to be careful here - if your business model is changing to regular smaller vignettes, you need to adjust your pricing accordingly or you will soon lose fans (at least until the discounts kick in!).Version: 1.0.3

Good, but felt too short & easyI guess we were really spoiled with “The Room 3” which was extremely immense in size, locations and puzzles. Old Sins is still pretty decent however, it tells a good spooky story, I like the dollhouse setting, and plays how you would expect it to. There seems to be a little less to do than in the others however, puzzles felt easier with maybe less hidden secrets but I guess it just feels like that as Old Sins is just more contained to the confines of a dolls house. I guess I was just expecting a game at least just as large as the previous third game, but it feels the smallest out of the series. That being said however, it is nice to finally have another still worthy addition to The Room series. I really do enjoy these games, and I had recently just completed the first three again for the third time running shortly before this was released so it was perfect timing for me. Definitely games to return to once in a while with a strong replay value which most point and click games don’t seem to have, I find. No doubt that I will replay this one sometime in the future too when I go through them all yet again. So all in all, slightly disappointed that it hasn’t quite matched up to the last game, and for what you get for £4.99 it feels a little overpriced which may put fans off with future sequels if this length again that offers a little less than previous games. But it’s still a casual thumbs up from me..Version: 1.0.3

BittersweetI’m a huge fan of this game series, well, maybe more along the lines of obsessed. When I got The Room One, I didn’t put it down until I finished it or passed out from not being able to keep my eyes open anymore. It was the same with Two and Three. However, I was a little heart broken with this one. The beginning started off great but once I realized that all I was gonna work on was a dollhouse with super simple puzzle boxes within it, it became very repetitive and predictable. I can see what the developers were trying to do with the story line but to be honest, it was under developed and muted compared to the rest of the series. I didn’t mind having to go back and forth between rooms but I wish I would’ve spent a little longer solving the puzzles within them. The fountain in the garden & the globe in the study I would have to say were the worst. I understand it takes a lot to put amazing graphics like this together but the game would’ve benefited more from additional context. Overall, I would say this app is worth $1.99 not the $4.99 I spent..Version: 1.0.4

Found frustrating, encountered bugsThe “help” function often tells you something you’ve already figured out and done or that is too cryptic to be helpful. The mechanism of entering room portals only via a quick double-tap while wearing the eyepiece is not intuitive *enough* the first time, so I got stuck and gave up on the game for months after activating but before entering the Parlor. (The help clue was that I should check out a new room that opened in the back, but given how useless clues had been so far, I thought making the portal *appear* was solving that room. I had tried single-tapping and the “zoom” gesture and looking at the portal from various angles, somehow never tried double-tapping and didn’t get a clue to suggest it.) Recently I came back to the game to find it hanging on launch with a solid black screen. Killing/restarting the app doesn’t help. Rebooting the phone *did* work, but...WHY was this needed? If there is some resource constraint shouldn’t the app somehow detect it and do something nicer than hang forever on a blank screen? (This is on an iPhone X).Version: 1.0.4
