✓ Not enoughIt’s hard to call this app a game - this is a story and truly beautiful art. The music is wonderful, the style is unique, but, unfortunately, the story was way too short. ✓ Beautiful but not really a gameI really enjoyed the animation and the music on this app. Had a real independent movie feel about it, perfect for a snowy Sunday afternoon on the sofa. The only thing I would fault with this is its a set story so even though you’re completing ‘interactive’ tasks, you have no influence over the story. When I first suspected this was set it Melbourne I literally screamed!! Melbourne never gets any representation it's always American cities and England, very cool as I recognised some of the places they went to! ✓ You can feel the love that went into this game <3When I started playing I could instantly feel the finger prints of Melbourne! This game isn’t set in some generic tv land city and thats only the beginning of how real and honest this game is. At its soft centre it’s a love story about a girl and a boy and how their meeting changes the path of there lives. The ending is beautiful. ✓ WowI follow a lot of artists on Twitter and they had picked up on this game, saying how creative and good it was, so I thought I would give it a try. Every review of it so far has basically said it’s amazing, but they just wish it was longer.... and I couldn’t agree more. This little interactive game is so simple, yet so inventive the way you get to interact with/as Florence. The artwork was beautiful, I loved the style, and the storyline was superb- I felt that breakup with every fiber in my being! ✓ Gorgeous!This game/interactive comic is absolutely stunning! I was drawn into it straight away by the unique artwork and the immersive experience created by the music (I would recommend headphones as it suggests) it doesn’t take too long to finish 15/20 minutes but I would say definitely worth your money!! I was even in tears during a couple of the chapters, now imagine how engaging and poignant this must be to have you experience so much raw emotion in such a short time...what an experience. I personally wouldn’t mind even paying the price for just listening to the sound track. However, I still find the game mechanics a bit “silly” sometimes and the game itself is very short, but I expected it to be even before buying so I wasn’t disappointed as much as others. ✓ Excellent game for kids too!I originally bought this for myself (ie an adult) but my daughter (aged 2.5) also LOVES playing this, she needed a little help with some of the puzzles to begin with so we had a nice time playing together but most of the interactions she can now do independently. She plays it over and over. Loves brushing the teeth, loves the puzzle speech bubbles and loves the paper butterfly and boat. I love the music in the background. ✓ Three cheers for story tellingFlorence is a sweet tale of romance and love. It's more short story form than a novel. Good for a train ride to the city. The interactive portions are like artistic or musical flourishes than ”interaction,” which might leave you feeling more like an observer than a participant. The speech bubbles are an excellent metaphor for how we often struggle to find the right words, but all the pieces fit into place when the right person comes along. I enjoyed the characters. It's classic young love. I'd like the game designers delve deeper into character for their next work. Because the story is broken into chapters, I was able to pick up and play throughout my day with breaks in between, which I liked. I also liked the puzzles. ✓ A short art game worth paying forLet’s get a couple of things straight up front: 1. Florence is not so much a game as an interactive short story. 2. You can play through it in around 30 minutes, and though I haven’t tried playing it through a second time, it doesn’t appear to have much replay value. Nonetheless I was happy to give the developers $3 for the experience of playing this unique game. It was a lot more memorable than the 3/4 of a drink at Starbucks I could have spent the money on instead. The thing that stands out to me about Florence is the way it uses game mechanics as metaphors. I can’t go into much detail without spoiling anything, but for example there are parts that involve puzzle pieces. Some reviews have griped about the apparent simplicity of this mechanic, but that misses the point. Notice when the puzzles get more and less complex. There are some powerful statements about people and relationships under the veneer of this game. 5/5 would cry on my iPad again..Version: 1.0.3

From the creators of Monument Valley, Florence is such a beautifully designed interactive application for designers, artists, musicians (the instrumental pieces are on point- you can download the album separately), and the like. The story-telling is unbelievably fun with human markers of a roller coaster ride of human daily struggle and happiness. As a short cinematic, visual representation of a story about a woman named Florence going about her life, this interactive piece of a story comes with no dialogue - to demonstrate this with just images and sound, I am in awe of the work! It shows that you do not need a game that is continuously long or never-ending; sometimes all you need is short game to get you thru your day..Version: 1.0.3

It is an innovative combination of graphics, storytelling, and ingenious use of the touch screen platform to poignantly and powerfully illustrate the nuances of the emotional journey people go through in relationships and the subsequent navigation of them. The music is absolutely gorgeous and the interactivity is a spot on brilliant combination of simple touch and profound illustration of the emotional highs and lows that go along with life from the perspective of its title character. And this game perfectly pointed out this lesson. Playing the game, while the mechanics and art are enthralling, you can't help but feel that you don't actually know the characters at all. You're just watching something play out from an incredibly distant vantage point, occassionally acting as them but rarely understanding. I just wish the game had better UI, if the game had flowed naturally with out the constant prompts, arrows, etc I would have appreciated it more. Everyone should play it because this is part of a future of interactive storytelling but they need to make it feel more initiative to play and sometimes that means not rushing the player with a prompt, which just frustrated me. Incredible animation too and I enjoyed the music a lot too, although it was a little frustrating to hear a song for a scene and that scene last 5-10 seconds and then a new bit of music for 5-10 seconds. ✓ BeautifulHonestly this game reminds me of a John Green novel, like The Fault in our Stars, or, the up and coming Love Simon. It has a beautiful tragedy story with an elegant simplicity and after getting your heart torn apart, the game lovingly puts it back together. The emotions this game produces linger even after finishing the game for a few weeks now, giving a lovingly bittersweet forlorn hug to your heart. One this game was entirely worth the money I paid for it, although the game itself is a little elementary with gameplay, though that was intended. The downside to these easy touch, tap, and drag controls is that the game passes by incredibly quickly and ends very soon. Upon the breakup of the main characters, the healing process the game allows you to progress through is a great time lengthener but all in all the game was still a bit short (but again, the storyline is very well developed and fleshed out). ✓ Why Florence is Worth Your Three DollarsJust finished Florence and woo boy, what a ride. First off, yeah, I’d say this is worth $3. That’s not me putting off this experience or saying it’s cheap, but rather that it’s about the right price for the length of the game. Florence as a game is straightforward: It’s basically an interactive comic. There’s barely any words, just wonderfully illustrated scenes and perfect accompanying music. The haptic feedback is satisfying, and the “gameplay” is super-duper simple, often implementing drag-and-drop mechanics or thumb-swiping to keep things moving. But the story is the big draw here, and while it is rather short, it’s a good-un, and it’s brilliant in how it conveys so much with so little. If you’re into an emotion-stirring story with believable, tragically and wonderfully human characters, this is a great choice. It’ll get ya. In conclusion, Florence is a spectacular little title for this new (I’m assuming new) team of game designers and storytellers, and I very much look forward to what else they have to offer in terms of emotive and compelling experiences like this one in the future. Florence does this quite well, although it’s let down by the mini games becoming a little tiresome at times (the speech bubble puzzles in particular, where repetition dilutes impact). The story is either twee or endearing depending on your personal appetite for this type of thing, but the graphics and animation are beautiful throughout. The gameplay is great with having to actually do everything yet it doesn’t feel like a chore. The story is beautiful I won’t spoil anything but it brought a tear to my eye. The only thing I wish were that it would’ve been longer. The game feels like a deep kids book the way the art style and music gives it that vibe but that’s not in any way trying to take away from its beauty. I got the game as a treat since Valentines Day is tomorrow so why not and I ran through it in about 30 mins. It is absolutely beautifully-written, a concise and bittersweet snapshot of the accelerating roller-coaster of new love. It’s not very long, and the games are both simple, and fiddly in place, but when you think of the design work, story-boarding and production by four people at a craft games studio, this is a great achievement and well worth the money - very comparative to a single comic or tv episode. ✓ Truly BeautifulThis story was done in such a way you became involved with the characters so quickly. I love how each interactive part was connected with what was happening in the story. I still have a lump in my throat from all of the emotions the storyline and the music made me feel. It reminds me of my own relationships and how even the hurtful ones make you who you are. I always hate to watch my daughter feel the pain of certain life events, but those events are necessary and build us bit by bit. ✓ Stress reliever!!!At first I couldn’t figure out how to play this, even when the little clues would pop up. But once I figured it out.... (which by then my anxiety was a thing of the past because my mind was somewhere else)...I then continued playing this game and figuring out what each life scenario will be. Whether it’s changing jobs and packing up your personal things from on top your desk into a box or having a new LOVE and packing your apartment up with items to take it to his apartment and then unpacking to put the items from the box and placing them on his tv stand or whatever. I really do like this app. It really is a relaxing game with a handful of chapters to go through. I think mine just ended with no more chapters to play I’m not sure yet I’ll find out. ✓ I criedAlright I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried. First, I was intrigued by the cute story, and the beautiful artwork. Then I was touched by the music, and the budding relationship. I cried some happy tears when things were great, and I cried some sad tears when it all went downhill. I also loved the symbolism of the speech bubbles, and how the easier the puzzle, the easier the words came to the person’s mouth. How things seemed difficult and awkward on the first dates, but conversation got easier and easier. But on the flip side, with the arguments, it seemed to get easier and easier for the characters to say the hurtful words. ✓ Unbelievable!I played this just after midnight as I got into bed, and put my earphones in just like the app recommends. I honestly felt like I was completely immersed in this story, it was beautiful! It hooked me in right away. The artwork, the music, the storytelling, literally everything worked so well together and made it so worthwhile. I related to Florence a lot, and found myself reacting to the situations to try and keep her happy. Or to try and make choices that I though would be the best for her in the long run. A couple of the interactions really took me a good bit to finish, I was thinking about them that much! It’s a rather short comic, only around 15-20 minutes in total it took for me, but there’s so much in there, and you get much more out of it! I highly recommend everyone should at least try this game.
