WeatherLink for Negative User Reviews

Could be betterBackground: I'm an ex-StormChaser, but still a weather nut. I have had an early Vantage Pro2 Plus system (and several auxiliary units) since 2004. I replaced the original VP2+ ISS in Dec2021 due to an unreplaceable faulty humidity sensor and daytime aspirator. I started out using the old WeatherLink software to log the data and uploading it to the WeatherLink site. However, this meant that I needed to have a small Intel NUC running at all times to facilitate this. As the NUC is used to do 'real work' during the day, the WeatherLink PC software often got in the way of what I was doing, so I purchased a WeatherLink Live unit with a Pro subscription. Then, the disappointments began... I can see why people stick with a non-subscription account. The Pro account offers little over a free account other than a shorter upload (and display) period. There are very limited options on how the data is displayed in this app. I get that Davis wish to provide a consistent interface across all customers, paying and non, but it limits the usability of those who do pay. Even the website interface is a badly-coded mess (which I won't go into here)! Please look at the other reviews to see the limitations as they are still valid and all I will be doing is repeating them. Suffice to say, that as a 'free' app, it's not bad, but as a paying customer, I am sorely disappointed at the lack of utility..Version: 2.2.2

Unreliable Data StorageWeatherLink Live is an unreliable method of storing your weather data. The system lacks ability to edit weather data (such as an errant rain gauge tip). There is no simple method of backup and restore of data. Retention policies are confusing. There are three levels, Standard, Pro, and Pro+. When removing a sensor suite as the primary WeatherLink station sensor suite, you will lose years of data immediately, without recovery, even at the cost incurring levels Pro and Pro+. You must frequently, manually download your data for safe keeping, which should not be necessary when paying for the service..Version: 2.2.1

Bit DisappointingWe purchased a weather station and use the Weatherlink app constantly, used to work great but wind speed is no longer live, hasn’t been updating instantly for some time. Support doesn’t seem to help either..Version: 2.1.24

IPad customers neglected : UPDATE!This app is in serious need of landscape mode for iPad users. I have been requesting this feature for years. And for the amount of money we invest in Davis instruments /weather stations it should be an easy task to satisfy their customers. Until then just keep removing your Smart Keyboard and rotate to portrait mode, fellow iPad users…… UPDATE!! I have found a real nice app to replace WeatherLink. It’s called SmartMixin here on the AppStore. It has everything WeatherLink offers plus one additional feature, LANDSCAPE MODE!!!.Version: 2.2.10

Potential but feels unfinishedLots of potential but an incomplete app. Come on Davis can’t you put a bit more effort into development of the app?.Version: 2.1.14

Latest update broke storm total reportingThe last update to the app has caused the app to no longer report storm totals on iPhone and iPads. The rain portion, date calculation and duration are all wrong. The current rain total and 24 hour total appear to still work fine. Wish the app had more displays, similar to the WeatherLink account displays or the Davis weather console device displays. Actually, the app is pretty limited and has less function now that the storm total no longer works..Version: 2.2.6

UpdateGreat! Latest update logged me out of the account and when I’ve logged back in all my favourites have disappeared. Having had 100 weather stations saved as part a project I’m not very happy. Can you tell me how to get them back..Version: 2.1.11

Cannot LoginUsing my WeatherLink login it does not recognise my password. Promises to send a new password via email but it never arrives!!.Version: 2.0.5

Improvements NeededI like this product, but there are a few areas I’d like to see some further attention paid to. Firstly, I don’t wish to be constantly reminded via a permanent screen banner that incidentally takes up valuable screen space, that I am on the ‘basic’ tier. This information should be relocated to the Settings screen. It’s current location devalues your product and your customers. I would also like to see Wind Gust included on the overview screen so that I don’t have to constantly navigate my way down to the Wind section to discover it. There is plenty of potential space in this upper section for it to be added. Could we also have an option that allows the user to re-arrange the weather sections into an order of their choosing?.Version: 2.1.14

Incorrect data in app.Half the information in the app is wrong. Solar highs at midnight, THSW temps of 6.1 when it’s 20+ outside. Some days the graphs work. Other days they don’t. Seriously Davis used to be good. Now not so much sorry to say..Version: 2.1.15

Horrible UIDavis makes great weather stations, but there software is lacking and a horrible UX..Version: 2.2.1

No landscape view on iPadWould give it 5 stars if it would view in landscape mode on an iPad.Version: 2.1.9

Good but needs weather widgetThe app is mostly good but sometimes not as easy to use as I would like. The biggest miss is not having a weather widget for the phone home screen or Apple Watch..Version: 2.2.5

Landscape Failure - iPadSorry folks - but this app STILL does not support landscape mode… Developer…really no excuses for this any longer. As others have commented - Davis is a premium product and should be supported by a premium app..Version: 2.2.9

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix itBeen waiting for Davis over 2 years now to realize their disaster, which is this app. Time to walk away from this and revert back to what you had originally. I have to agree with 90% of the negative reviews, we all spent big money on your equipment and this “new” UI is horrible in all aspects. Would love to see the macOS software fixed too but they just don’t seem to care. One can dream I suppose….Version: 2.2.1

Simple things not easily available. How cold did it get Tuesday night? How much rain did we get yesterday? At the bottom in the records section let us easily scroll through the days, months or years not the current painful dropdowns..Version: 2.1.3

Moving GraphsOnly complaint is that the graphs never move to the current time upon opening the app, you always have to swipe them to the side to get to the current time, is this something that can be added?.Version: 2.1.20

Station OrderVery frustrating is the process to order the station list. It will not save your home station at the top unless you move it to number 2 and then move number 1 down. It will save it but periodically loses it! I would have thought this is basic IOS programming it’s not weather related!.Version: 2.1.20

Giant backwoods stepThis was a good app but now it is awful and to add insult to injury they now want you to pay for content..Version: 2.0.11

LongwindedThe upgrade is poor. Graphs longwinded - need to condensed to better see trends. Forecast v innaccurate (compared to Weather Pro). Wind not clear Today could be one screen. Sorry Nick uk.Version: 2.0.16

Big step backwardsOld version was elegant in its simplicity- new version is visually confusing and frustrating to read. Would much prefer old version..Version: 2.1.4

Needs more workI was invited to migrate my weather station to WeatherLink 2.0 as they are withdrawing support shortly, it worked well for the first 24hours, now it does not recognise my station and is therefore unfit for purpose. I have checked using a browser and it works well on that, so the problem lies in the app..Version: 2.0.8

Two different AQIs at once.It lists the current AQI as 23.6 but graphs it as 0.1. I wonder if either is accurate..Version: 2.1.19

New Version 2.2.2 Crashes on StartupVersion 2.2.2 released March 18, 2022 will now not run on original iPhone SE. Selected App Support link on iPhone app store page and says page not found at Davis so having to write issue here. Please fix. Reason I got Weather Link Live was to was real-time weather on my iphone on home network. App does not even open. Just crashes as soon as selected. Worked on previous versions..Version: 2.2.2

Latest update crashes on iPhone 6SWeatherLink app immediately reverts to the Home Screen. Recent update poorly tested. Software is not a strong point of Davis..Version: 2.2.2

Poor IPad appI agree with the other reviewer’s. The iPad app needs to support landscape mode. It should also have better configurability, like others suggest being able to move the data points around on the screen. I really wanted to have a nice looking display that I could frame and hang on my wall. I have owned the vantage pro two for over 10 years with very high reliability. Davis has always fallen short on attractive ways to display the data..Version: 2.1.21

Wind in degreesHi. On the app the wind direction is not entirely clear. Could the magnetic direction of the wind be added in numbers of degrees please? More useful than 'north-west' etc etc **still no response 7/9/18.Version: 2.0.10

OK, but missing should-have features• There’s no iOS widget which would be nice to see one’s AQI with a single swipe. • There’s no way to have multiple people, each with their own iPhone, to have separate logins on their respective phones, for the same account. I.E., there should be the account owner login with admin privileges, and other users that can simply install the app and view data, but not have privileges to make any changes..Version: 2.1.23

Please can we go backGreat weather stations. Really, really awful software. Please can we go back to the old mobile ap where everything most users wanted was right there on the page when you opened it up, no need to select, scroll, blah blah. If you needed history you could simply swipe through the pages to see what you needed..Version: 2.0.15

Crashing after updateAfter update yesterday, app will not open. Only crashes. Have deleted and reloaded. No help.Version: 2.2.2

Could be betterI think this app is just ok for now, it could do with some improvements. Suggestions: Different colours for weather patterns Wind speed coud update same as the console 2.5sec Font a little larger Dark mode Edit: I lost all of my chart data for every sensor. Not happy at all..Version: 2.1.14

Ok but improvements to compete with competitorsIs a nicely designed interface but needs some additions to compete with some more modern competitors. Some requested improvements: - Landscape mode for iPhone and iPad - being able to tap e.g rain at summary and it will scroll to that section. - wind line chart as well as bar to display low, avg, gusts..Version: 2.1.20

Endless loop, app/iOS updatePoor coding, loss of functionality due to old iOS support update prompts in app, taking me to the update that I can’t perform (iPhone 5) This was a basic but functional app that has made my investment in the Davis hardware look shaky. Others have complained about the problem, please fix it..Version: 2.2.5

Davis Dev team lost its quality!Backyard weather folks don’t care about graphics. They care about their data. Old version was simple, user friendly and defined perfection. New version is tacky, there’s more graphics than data..Version: 2.0.15

Needs Landscape modeThe app currently only presents in Portrait mode; developer needs to implement Landscape mode as well for us keyboard users! Apple provides all the development tools to do this easily..Version: 2.1.24

No landscape viewWhile it is fast, no landscape view makes the iPad version much more useless. Also, when using the shortcut in the top right to jump to a section (wind, barometer etc) it usually jumps to the wrong section..Version: 2.1.24

Weatherlink LiveThere is a problem with your Weatherlink live in the forecast section. The forecast is way off in just about all of the settings. As much as 23 degrees difference between the high and low. Example: Today’s temperature is 44 degrees but the forecast is forecasting a high if 67 during a cold front coming in. This needs to be fixed..Version: 2.2.7

Version 2.2.2 Won’t Launch Do Not Install UpdateDo not update the latest version (2.2.2). Won’t even launch now..Version: 2.2.2

Where are the features?Pro subscription and as other reviews have stated that’s pretty pointless as it only really unlocks shorter upload times. As I am not in the USA I cannot use the sms service but even David state that those notifications are unreliable. As a pro subscription I would like to see the introduction of notifications from the app from various alarm triggers. It is a nice looking easy to read app, but severely lacking any features..Version: 2.2.5

This version is crashingIt won’t run on my iPhone8 plus running iOS 14.8.1..Version: 2.2.2

Annoying update messagesI keep getting messages saying there’s an update available. If I choose to click on it, the update is not compatible with my iPad as it is an older one. I’m not gonna run out and buy a new iPad for WeatherLink. It doesn’t seem there is anyway to turn off that update message..Version: 2.2.7

AnimationsNo problems with the app but there seems to be no option to disable animations..Version: 2.2.11

DifficultHad a read struggle setting up a station. Still not working properly. App is basically good but software is flaky.Version: 2.1.16

Need Landscape ModeTime to update the software to support tablets. This is way past due..Version: 2.2.3

Updates to introduce bugsSo now the indoor temperature doesn’t update, constant 21° regardless….Version: 2.1.24

Needs Rotation SupportHello! I would be really great if the developers could make it so the app can be turned horizontally. It would make for more options for a table top dashboard/command center..Version: 2.2.5

Ok but very inaccurate weather forecastsI am happy with the app in terms of how it represents my weather station and air quality data (although agree with others that the lack of landscape mode in an iPad is very annoying) but is everyone happy with the accuracy of the weather forecasts? They use Custom Weather, who may be ok in the US, but here in the UK it is monumentally inaccurate..Version: 2.1.22

Update broke the appJust updated the app which said “bug fix” and now the app won’t launch. To add insult to injury if you click on the support button here you get a page not found error. ☹️.Version: 2.2.2

Crashes on takeoffThe latest update will not load on my iPhone 8 with iOS 15.4. The app crashes as soon as it opens. It’s certainly not the newest iPhone, but it’s the phone I had when I bought the weather station, and I shouldn’t have to buy a new phone only to use this app..Version: 2.2.2

Ok but no widgetApp is ok and works fine but to be 5 stars would be nice to have a widget...Version: 2.1.16

Last update crashes on openIPhone 12 pro max. Once this is fixed I would be happy to update this review(good app when it works).Version: 2.2.3

?Downloaded latest app fix, now app will not open ..Version: 2.2.2

Not happy with this appJust installed and logged into my account. Initially it picked up and displayed current data. Next time I opened the app it no longer displayed my station. Cannot resolve this so I guess i abandon this approach. Pity, it was a good idea.....Version: 2.1.17

Unusable Interface and Missing basic FeaturesWeatherlink desperately needs an overhaul. Redo from the ground up. And it needs widgets. Opening the app everytime to see temperature data I should be able to see on lock screen widgets ...is mildly infuriating..Version: 2.2.12

No Landscape modeIt appears that users have been asking for Landscape mode for several years. Not having this view on IPad, does render the app useless for many..Version: 2.2.10

Why did you break it?What did you do to this AP?! It was great, easy to use, compare and manage. Then you changed it. Now it’s all graphic and no substance. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the first version. I hardly want to use it now. Roll it back!.Version: 2.0.11

What happened? The old version was much easier to read the data quickly and easily. The new version will not register below -18c. I spent thousands on hardware and now this app is useless for low temp data. It’s a shame..Version: 2.0.11

Davis WeatherLinkVery poorly designed software feel like it was a project put together by a first year school kid.Version: 2.2.2

Not very goodIt promises a lot but delivers little. Whilst it gives a suite of data it's not updated as regularly as the console and there are no alarms so as a professional tool it's useless for managing frost or weather events.Version: 2.0.4

Good but Poor Recent UpdatesMain point is in recent update. Since when was wind speed data represented as a bar graph, what a poor decision! Rainfall graph showed be the bar graph and wind speed and gusts still be a line graph, like temp etc. Very odd update which knocks the rating down. Otherwise it remains an 'average to good' app..Version: 2.1.20

Doesn’t loadUsed to work doesn’t load any stations at the moment..Version: 2.2.5

Can’t save locations. Can’t save locations in latest version. Please fix..Version: 2.1.20

Lost annual rainfall on latest update. On recent app annual rainfall is recorded as daily rainfall. No fix?.Version: 2.2.7

New update crashesNew update from 2 days ago… app crashes as soon as you open it. Remove and reinstalled with same results..Version: 2.2.2

App is no longer functionalApp will crash now every time I attempt to use it. Was useful when it worked. Since it is no longer useful I will delete it. Would not recommend..Version: 2.2.2

Unreliable and useless troubleshootingAfter six weeks the WLL suddenly stopped working with an intermittent flashing blue light. No mention of it in the manual or the app. Connected via Ethernet that’s working normally and no power cuts etc. wifi and iPhone working fine so it must be the unit..Version: 2.2.3

Worst weather app everCumbersome, complicated to use, can’t delete unneeded stations, not at all intuitive. Is there a manual to help user figure out how to operate functions that are basic on better written apps?.Version: 2.2.5

Needs Landscape Mode iPadI like the app on my iPhone, but since I use my iPad 99.9% of the time in landscape mode as it is connected to a Magic Keyboard, this app is useless. Dev - Please add landscape mode..Version: 2.2.10

Terrible SoftwareI can’t use the software anymore bc it says I have to upgrade. My IOS is not the current one so I am stuck forever on the prompt for downloading the previous software which doesn’t happen. It’s unbelievable that an owner can’t just Bluetooth data from the weather station. Won’t be buying any more Davis gear.Version: 2.2.5

Where did map view go?Seems like the ability to see location of stations on a map background was removed from the latest update of this app? Why?.Version: 2.1.20

RubbishSimply does not work ! My station is not visible and neither is anyone else I know. What a complete waste of time. Plus they are asking for a monthly subscription !!! Don’t waste you time downloading.Version: 2.0.3

Poor app don't botherThis app is great when it works. Sadly that's hit and miss. Sometimes I get good weather information from my public station and other times I get nothing. I've contacted support twice and not got a reply. My advice is don't bother. It's too hit and miss to be useful..Version: 2.0.2

No home screen refresh?Good app but in the new version the home screen doesn't auto refresh. I have to shut down the app completely to get an updated screen..Version: 2.1.10

OK - suggested improvementsApp OK as far as it goes. Suggested additions: 1. Pull down and release screen to force refresh; 'Live' isn't accurate! 2. Add section to bottom of screen giving health of ISS, console and WLL - battery state, signal strength etc. 3. Add widget..Version: 2.1.16

How to change to CelsiusNice design, but can’t figure out how to change units to Celsius. Same is tru for the WeatherLink website.Version: 2.0.10

Doesn’t work after March 2022 updateApp no longer works at all after update 2 days ago..Version: 2.2.2

Shocking service and supportPaid a fortune for this top level weather station and the support and data management is awful. Incorrect rainfall data and they can’t amend it in the database so my rainfall data is totally inaccurate. Wouldn’t bother spending on so much money on a Davis weather station as they can’t get their data management sorted...total frustration and disappointment.Version: 2.1.15

Home screen won’t refresh in new versionHow frustrating! A solid app that now doesn’t work - home screen won’t refresh. You have to close the app and reload to get it to update. From an identical review, other users are having the same problem. Developers - please get this fixed! Any improvements you think you’ve made in this version are redundant until the home screen at least displays up to date information. Thank you..Version: 2.1.10

Not an improvementThis dot update didn’t help at all. Now you have to scroll each chart to get to the latest data for the hour. The last update was fine. The one before was even better. Not sure why Davis are screwing up their app. Still have the old app on the iPad. Won’t be updating that. Making things more difficult and inconvenient with each update. Would like to go back to the app I had in sept of 2020 but can’t find it. Would be nice..Version: 2.1.20

Old version was betterNew layout more graphic but takes longer to get the numbers. Has issues with below zero or -18 c will not go below and show true temperature..Version: 2.0.11

Can’t open stations anymoreIndividual stations no longer load data when tapped on. Homepage shows it but tapping on each station fails to load data..Version: 2.2.11

Finally chart data fixedPlease test properly before releasing update, there has been 3 releases in the last 2 weeks! Still frustrated by Davis wanting you too pay for your data for more than 15 minute updates and other information!.Version: 2.1.13

RubbishCan’t change any settings (Cannot update preference) and can’t access any weather stations (Request failed: internal server error (500))..Version: 2.0.11

Not liveThe “live” capability hasn’t been working for weeks. Although it says live at top of screen data is actually only updating every 3-5 mins. Since the device is called WeatherLink live this is a MAJOR PROBLEM. please fix this.Version: 2.1.24

What’s happened?App used to work great, now can’t change unit from F to C, it just reverts back to F immediately, can’t actually seem to change anything in the units section. Also doesn’t save any locations. I’ve tried updating the app and still doesn’t work properly..Version: 2.2.3

Needs improvementI have just purchased the Davis Vantage Vue weather station with the WeatherLink live receiver. As far as I can tell, the data from the station is accurate but the WeatherLink live app fails to present the data in chart form. At first the charts would not update the data. Now there is no data presented. Until Davis correct this they are letting down what would otherwise be a good system..Version: 2.2.1

Made for American marketThis app is made largely for the US market and its usefulness outside the US is limited. The weather data it uses in Australia is highly generalised and gives very inaccurate outcomes once applied to local areas. It refuses to allow you to use the international standard date format did/mm and so can also be confusing to try and interpret..Version: 2.1.19

Not workingDiscovered V2 by accident. Why is it being kept a secret from V1 users? Why not an automatic update to all users? It took about 10 attempts to log in using my V1 details. The email for a password change never arrived after about 5 attempts, but it decided to log me in finally with my V1 details. Loaded all my account details but can't locate my weather station. Search by name or search by location is not working. It shows no stations in my city which has many Davis weather stations and my whole state only shows 3 stations. A waste of time..Version: 2.0.3

Long time userI have had a Davis station for about 10 years. Using a desktop or laptop to look at data has long been replaced by looking at current and “recent history” on your phone or tablet. Removing the ability to look backwards at history on charts (temp, rain, wind, etc) was and REALLY unfortunate change to the app. It is our data, we pay for Premium subscriptions to accumulate this data. Removing the ability to see historical data is a terrible business decision. Please pay attention to comments. Use our subscription dollars to service the customer. Simplification is not data reduction it is a UI design..Version: 2.1.20
