Canon DPP Express for Negative User Reviews

Paid Subscription???Im very confused. I’ve corresponded the Canon several times. They INSIST that this is a completely FREE app. No subscription required. They told me “This is not a canon app”. However the link they sent me takes me to this app ?????.Version: 1.5.0

A paid app instead of free like for Windows and MacNot only a paid app it doesn’t support my Canon cameras notably: 5D, 40D, M3, and 7D mk2... Disappointed. :( :(.Version: 1.5.0

“Express” leaves a lot out...Won’t eat CR2 files. Won’t eat 5Ds/sr JPEGs (unlike most other apps). No sign of DLO (which IMHO is the only reason to use DPP). So basically I’d suggest avoiding for now... unless have an EOS-M50 camera, when might be worth a look..Version: 1.0

Will not download raw from iPhone or iPad.Disappointing!.Version: 1.7.0

Canon Cripple Hammer strikesYes, I subscribed. Mainly because Apple has yet to provide raw file support for the RP (Canon you have anything to do with that? The R got supported pretty quickly.) I spent all this money on your cameras and then you chintz out on the necessary software. Been looking at the new Nikon Z50..Version: 1.2.0

CameraDoes not support my camera.Version: 1.7.11

No, just No !How can you go from a great desktop app to something as poor as this? It won’t let you edit directly on a hard drive or card and you have to pay a monthly subscription. Come on Canon, you make great cameras, you make outstanding lenses and your desktop app is excellent. This however is a really poor show..Version: 1.9.0

Mediocre and then went subscriptionThe app fell far short of DPP on the desktop and was limited to a few cameras and file formats. While it was free, it was worth having on your iPad Incase you wanted to do a quick edit in the field but once Canon changed it to subscription it was an instant delete. I suspect if they’d kept it free and improved it, even gradually, the goodwill from having free raw editing on desktop and mobile would have been worth more than the small amount of subscription dollars they’ll earn. Silly Canon, opportunity missed..Version: 1.2.0

Update for canon eos m100Hi! i nuy a eos m100 i cant use the app, the camera is pretty but update please i want to use it and others with the m100, thanks 📷👍.Version: 1.5.0

No CR2?Since the vast majority of Canon DSLRs produce .CR2 files, why would you even think of producing software that does not support them? This really makes the software useless to 99 percent of Canon shooters.......Version: 1.0.11

Not workingHi please could some one help I have just paid subscription fee for full use but i cannot use fine or brightness modes and pictures style.Have i been caught again.Version: 1.3.10

Useless as isI agree with others here. This app is currently pointless. Aside from the fact that it only accepts CR3 and jpegs, (which is ridiculous) it failed to import 4 jpegs! It complained of insufficient storage. Also ridiculous. This app also does not recognize HEIC files. iPhones have been shooting in HEIC for years now. How is it that Canon who makes such fantastic cameras can allow the release of useless/bad software?! Come on Canon. You can do much better..Version: 1.1.10

WowWhy not support cr2 why.Version: 1.1.0

I was tricked in a Subscription I can’t cancel!!!This app isn’t for IPhone at all! It shouldn’t even be advertised on the App Store! This is only for Canon cameras!!! YOU ARE LIARS! Not only that there is no possible way to cancel the subscription I was tricked into buying! I will do everything I can to have you removed from the Apple App Store LIARS!!!.Version: 1.8.0

No support for CR2 format ughNo support for CR2 format ugh.Version: 1.4.0

3 supported camerasThis truly doesn’t make sense, only 3 supported cameras. No CR2..Version: 1.0.11

Not workingBadly.Version: 1.5.0

Compatible with iPad don’t think soSaid compatible with this iPad when downloaded tell me not your iPad has to be an iPad Pro mini4 or 2017 ! As much use as a chocolate fire guard.Version: 1.0

UselessEven after moving to a subscription model, it fails to support all cameras that use .CR2. The app is not expanded to support .CR2 but only with a limited number of cameras. I have a 6D original, which supports .CR2 and is supported by Camera Connect but that file is disabled on DPPe. Why? Does Canon really believe such restriction will lead to users upgrading for its excellent cameras to the new brood?.Version: 1.2.10

Subscription serviceHaving used the supplied canon DPP on a Laptop for a few years and found it a useful tool, I downloaded DPP express for iPad about a year ago and found it a useful tool for photos on the go and would have given it 4 stars. Since it is not as useful as the subscription photo package from adobe(photoshop and Lightroom),which I use on both PC and mobile devices I will be removing DPP Express from my iPad since it has too become a subscription service, it’s not good enough to have to pay monthly for. Unless I am mistaken the full blown PC software is still free with canon cameras with free updates as they come along, so why make users pay for a much slimlined version if they want to use it on mobile devices when on the go. Had the app been a minimal one time payment of perhaps £2.99 I might have considered it but at £0.79 per month for an average at best app I will just have to let it go..Version: 1.2.0

IPad Penalty Tax - Seriously?!Why is this application FREE to use on a MAC, but I have to pay a monthly fee to use on iPad.... I thought my purchase of a new Canon camera was enough... App Deleted - Seriously reconsidering future Canon purchases..Version: 1.2.0

Subscription for poor App?The more I work with this App the more frustrated I get. If I export a CR2 file as a JPEG why is it about 2mb smaller than the JPEG created in the camera? Latest version does not work on iPad Air 2. Will not import anything. Works ok on iPad Pro. This is getting worse. I have paid a lot for a Canon DSLR and the Laptop version is free but just because I use an IPad and not a PC I have to pay to use it. WHY? You are getting as bad as Microsoft and Adobe. Still having to pay to use. WHY? I note a distinct lack of responses from Canon so most likely they do not read the reviews..Version: 1.7.11

RudeI use canon gear, paid thousands of pounds for it, run full DPP on the computer and now i have to pay for a simple app. If you wanted to use this outside being a canon user I’d understand a say a one off charge but when you’re already registered with canon and invested in their entire system. What a cheek..Version: 1.5.0

What is canon thinking? Not good even without subscription and with this update and subscription they are making sure even the few who used it for a couple of times will no longer use it. Have no clue what the canon guys were thinking..Version: 1.2.0

Why Paid App?This looks like a useful app which allows similar functionality to the desktop version that many pros have used for years. So I’m more than a little surprised that after spending £4000 on a new Canon camera, apparently to use this app is going to cost another £10 a year to use. I guess that’s fine if you don’t use LR or PS but it seems a little tacky from Canon to not allow use for their customers without this charge. It’s a nice app, but it’s not worth paying extra for. Deleted..Version: 1.7.11

A clever ploy to buy the latest Canon bodyUseless for the majority of Canon owners. I'm prepared to pay an adobe subscription for Lightroom ,edit my photos in Affinity or Photoshop mobile. Use Duet to edit with ON1 I have owned Canon since 1978 with the AT-1 , T90, 20D, 600D & 5DSr. There are too many 3rd party alternatives these days to stay loyal to Canon. SAD.Version: 1.0

Really disappointing output...Overlooking the fact this app does not support CR2 raws (I have an EOS R), the image quality that you get from processing CR3 RAW files in the app is pretty ugly. Equally as disappointing is how slow it functions. Granted, I’m “only” using a first generation iPad pro 12.9”, but every other RAW editor on this device flys. It might be worth keeping around when I need to get a RAW file off my EOS R wirelessly, but on top of the dog performance and crap output, you can’t even export RAW files to use in another app..Version: 1.0.11

Why Canon? Why is canon charging a subscription for an app? Should be free for all canon owners!.Version: 1.8.0

Jumped on the Adobe subscription bandwagonYou buy a nice Canon camera for several thousand dollars, then you download this app and it wants to nickel and dime you for $1 per month… Also can’t access photo files unless they are stored in your camera roll, that’s a non starter for most pro workflows with external drives and even just plugged in camera cards. Direct transfer from camera is slow at best..Version: 1.8.0

Full app free for computersI have been a Canon user for close on 50 years and ever since their DSLR’s have been out, they have supplied the full version of DPP for computer use free with their cameras. I can’t for the life of me can understand how they can charge for a very much cut down version for phones and tablets. Although I predominantly use Adobe for most of my editing, I find the full version of DPP picks up on more of the camera’s settings and continue to use it on my PC..Version: 1.8.10

Why did Canon Create this App??Why, why, why would Canon allow this waste of time and money to create and advertise that the Apps function will let you ‘Adjust RAW images freely’ - then it displays a message that the cr2 images files imported are unsupported. Seriously! iPad Pro and t7i.Version: 1.1.0

Rip offI paid over £4000 for an R5 and Canon now wants more money to process RAW images, what a rip off. This should be free for Canon users. I’m a Gold CPS member and don’t expect to have to pay to use Canon apps, and now expected to pay £6/month to use Mobile File Transfer..Version: 1.7.10

CANON: PLEASE ADD CR2 SUPPORTPlease stop being stingy. I will eventually upgrade to the newest stuff but just give your old(er) cameras some love..Version: 1.0.11

Cr2Add cr2 please.Version: 1.1.0

Why canon do this? Why canon makes an application and charges it, it's illogical.Version: 1.8.10

DPP is free on PC…But they expect me to pay a subscription on mobile?? The price is irrelevant, it’s disgraceful to charge for software that has been free on PC for over a decade..Version: 1.9.0

PLEASE allow access to folders!Selecting from the camera roll with hundreds of raws is very difficult.. please allow choosing a folder when importing a photo!.Version: 1.7.0

No raw burst supportWhen I bought the subscription I was assuming that raw burst mode would also be supported with the R7 support? When you don't have a download for the Digital photo Professional 4 software for macOS Monterey, this is the only other to option to see the images out of camera for that mode. I had no other reason to download this app than that..Version: 1.8.0

Canon rips off its loyal customersCannot believe that after spending $$$$ on its cameras it now wants to slug us with a monthly subscription for a mediocre ap. Whoever came up with this “bright” idea has lost my customer loyalty, my next purchase will be anything other than Canon. Either make the app free or don’t provide it at all. Invest in one of the many excellent photo apps and don’t waste your money on this greedy corporation..Version: 1.2.0

Cannot even download from camera roll anymore!!!Last week this worked and now I cannot download even single photo from my camera roll on my iPad Pro. I get en Error: download cancelled due to lack of space. I have 200 GB of space so this is NOT the problem. PLEASE FIX this Canon..Version: 1.1.10

RequestI have canon eos 70 D and it does not work . I am curios whether it will be able to do so in new update.Version: 1.2.0

Looks okay but I’m not buyingThis should be free but limited to Canon RAW formats..Version: 1.6.11

Does not workTried, no photos alright.Version: 1.9.0

Good results. No area based edits. Good for beginnersFirstly please make this app free, and many people will be loyal for this reason. Raw processing of an image with a phone is a joke in my opinion as if someone shoots raw, they will use proper computer or a tablet for their edits. DPP is good to get colours right in the first place imo, but I assume and experienced that all other proper apps do it better. So either make it better or just don’t worry about it.Version: 1.9.0

Low quality exportsIt’s possible I could be missing something but when I export an image in the original resolution, it compresses the file so the quality of the image is garbage, specifically the og file size is about 40mb in its .CR3 RAW format, the exported photo is 7.6mb.Version: 1.8.0

Sorry, spending $10k/year on camera gear isn’t enough?“Tell ‘em they’re Dreamin’…” I/we/all of us spend vast amounts on Cameras, lenses, flashes and accessories… and some Canon executive twits feel the need to charge for this very limited app? Rack off. I’ll/we’ll just keep paying $1200 per year to Adobe to do it right… Canon, either offer it free, to support your product or scrap it… don’t try charging for a product that is already heavily subsidised by your high profit products..Version: 1.8.0

This sort of app should be free with the cameraThe subscription is a joke. It means it costs about £10 a year, a £100 in 10 years, for a very simple image editing app which is good enough for getting you images out of the camera on the go, if you've forgotten or don't want to bother with taking out your SD card dongle. This sort of thing should be free with the camera. Putting that aside, it is a nice fit with Camera connect. It links to the app and so it is a way, the only one I know, how to download RAWs from the camera via wifi. The UI is streamlined in comparison to Lightroom because of the lack of zillions of features, but all the essentials are there and are nicely laid out and accessible. It has no image organising fascilities apart from rating and the ability to sort by date or rating. Unfortunately it is not a real replacement for Lightroom..Version: 1.3.10

Canon is smoking somethingThe nerve of them to charge for this. Definitely makes me think less of this company that I’ve spent thousands of dollars with..Version: 1.7.11

Good tool but import/export limits workflowThe functionality is great and in many ways a step up from DPP on the Mac - the layout and touch screen make it much more intuitive to use than DPP on a computer. However, limiting import to Camera Connect or the Photos app and NOT allowing access to Files or a direct app to app transfer really limits workflow options. These should not be hard to add to a paid subscription app. AND only allowing JPEG or unmodified RAW export (back to Photos) is braindead. Why work up edits on the iPad if I can’t copy them back to my Mac? They are stuck in DPP Express forever! Some really easy wins to make this so much more when they’ve done the hard work on the core functionality - come on Canon! (And yes I would like support for RAWs from older cameras, but let’s choose our battles...).Version: 1.5.0

No support for CR2 filesLooks nice but cannot import CR2 format RAW files..Version: 1.1.0

No Support for $6500 Camera! Really???App is a waste for 99.9% of Canon users/owners..Version: 1.1.0

Why canon you persist at mediocrityArchaic linking with 5D mk4 has to open other app and was unable to access the raw cr.2 Will stick to the old workflow of shuttersnitch to Lightroom cc Hope they can use their product on the field to see how it’s not responsive for professional work !! One day hopefully one day canon will respect their customers.Version: 1.0

Paywall even though says it's freeFor a world class market leader of cameras Canon doesn't seem to understand the importance of designing and supporting apps for its products. The ones I have tried are overly complex to work with seamlessly, and the poor reviews are deserving. This app is advertised as free but isn't. The $1,29 a month isn't a big problem rather the expectations of their dedicated users like me should be. While the app looks what I want in principal I will continue to use alternative apps..Version: 1.6.10

Doesn’t make senseI upload a photo to edit after subscribing and there are no extra features like it leads you to believe the only thing you can do is share and export.Version: 1.6.11

How do I give this zero stars.Dear Canon, Your users spend thousands of dollars on your bodies, and lenses. Some of us faithfully hit all the upgrade cycles. And now you want to charge us $.99 cents a month for software on IOS that, oh wait, you provide at no charge for MacOS and Windoze and is part of the overall cost of ownership of Canon Gear. Really? Someone please take the time to explain to us why you’ve done this because it’s narrow sighted. IMHO, you have really screwed the pooch and depleted a lot of customer goodwill..Version: 1.5.0

No 5D mark 4 support? What a waste of time but I bet the paid app later this year will take care of this? Just hope it’s cheap but with Canon I’m betting not!.Version: 1.1.10

No CR2 support! Can’t believe this has launched without support for CR2 files. Don’t waste your time downloading it..Version: 1.0

Money grab subscriptionDPP has always been free. Probably one of the reasons you bought Canon instead of Sony. Now Canon is moving to subscription based software to view/alter their RAW files. Without a way to view/alter RAW files your “pro” $6k R3 body is kinda pointless..Version: 1.8.10

Ummm….Please tell me I didn’t Spend thousands on canon camera and lenses then gotta pay 0.99 a month for a app to export raw images ?? Am I missing something? Or am I misunderstanding how this app works?.Version: 1.9.0

Subscription?! Really?!I want to see the boardroom meeting where they decided to put a subscription on their mediocre iPad app. I love using my canon cameras because of how easy they are and part of that ease of use is the free software. even though the software is simple and can’t compare with offerings from Adobe, it at least used to be free. Now they want to charge for it every month even after they already charge you for the camera! The worst thing is that I used this app when it was free and now I have to find something else because there’s no way in hell I’ll pay a monthly subscription for something that came free with my camera..Version: 1.2.10

Per month subscription - forget it. !No thank you. Nothing worse than this kind of money grabbing. Just make it free. Had I not received a canon as a present I would make a point of not buying one based on this kind of thing. I will not buy another Canon product..Version: 1.8.0

IPad not supportedDownloaded the software to find it won’t work with my version of iPad..Version: 1.0

Disappointing appI use the top of the line camera by Canon and i was really disappointed that this app can’t read CR2??? Why would you develop an app wherein your top specs camera is not even included? I’m always on the go and i find the ipad really helpful as it is light to carry. Canon and developers i think you missed the point here, ignoring the PRO’s would be a big mistake. You need to re-think your plans....Version: 1.2.10

Not supportedIf there was at least a list in the description to say it only supports the CR3 only and the hugest specs iPads from 2017+ But no, compatibility states “works on this iPad”.Version: 1.0

No CR2Largely pointless for most Canon users, only 2 cameras supported..Version: 1.0

Paying for this appCanon you have to be kidding if you think people are going to start paying for this app. There are free apps out there that do more..Version: 1.1.41

Not good. Not that it’s a paid app it is even worse. This was already a mediocre photo editor but we could forgive its many flaws while it was free, now that Canon is absurdly expecting to be paid monthly for its use, I deleted it..Version: 1.3.30

Exporting is TerribleWhen exporting from the app to your camera roll it completely distorts the image..Version: 1.7.0

They hold your images hostage unless you pay them a dollar a month. Why are they forcing us to pay a dollar a month just to remove water marks.Version: 1.2.0

Canon cripple hammer strikes againIt seems lately Canon is in a race to the bottom to see how little value they can provide to the customer at inflated profits. This poorly executed app with a monthly subscription fee is a perfect example. One Spends thousands of dollars on their camera and lenses, but now they want you to pay to see and edit the pics taken with that equipment. Pathetic. Shame on you Canon..Version: 1.3.10

Terrible appSo limited and they make you pay for it. Just use adobe.Version: 1.9.0

Pay for useVery disappointed that we canon camera purchasers have to now pay for this app to-work proberly considering the amount of money buying canon equipment costs come on canon if you whant us to use your goods give us the tools to work with Discrontled canon user.Version: 1.2.0

Downloaded, prompted with subscription, deleted.I’m sure this works fairly well, but not well enough I’m inclined to pay monthly for it..Version: 1.9.0

Should be freeThis shows how greedy a company can be. We spend thousands of dollars on cameras, lens and accessories and you want to us to pay for software that should be free. Unbelievable.Version: 1.9.0

SadCan not believe i have had this app for less than minute and it is telling me that even though i have there camera that i spent to me a lot of money and now i have to buy your app instead of being able to just use it. I have had the camera for 3 days and now i am sending it back and getting a Nikon, no wonder you are losing the market to them and others good luck.Version: 1.1.10

No support for raw files unless you have EOS R or m50Frustrating.Version: 1.1.30

No CR2? Seriously Canon? So, I’ve been waiting years for Canon to come up with a tablet version of DPP and now they have. But they’ve managed to alienate 99% of its digital camera user base by only supporting the newer CR3 RAW format! So the only compatible cameras are the EOS M50 and the newly released EOS R! Are you telling me Canon couldn’t put CR2 compatibility on release? An absolutely ridiculous decision, Canon should hang their heads in shame..Version: 1.0

So poor it’s unbelievableI can’t believe they have the nerve to ask you to pay for this app. Surely the worst photo editor I have ever used. Not a patch on other on the App Store.Version: 1.5.0

No CR2I recently downloaded this Canon app, hoping to do some editing on the go using my iPad. Only to find out that I can’t because, Canon has failed to make this app compatible with earlier RAW format CR2! It’s now a complete waste of time owning the app, as I can’t use most of the editing tools! Canon, you really need to think things through before putting out a app like this. It would of been very useful to many Canon users had it been compatible with RAW CR2! You need to think about putting out an update to solve this very big problem..Version: 1.0.11

I thought it would let me share it?Can’t share?.Version: 1.9.0

Subscribe, for this junk? No thanks. As other reviewers confirm, this is a very ordinary ordinary app and Canon should be ashamed to try and get people to pay for it. Read the room buddy..Version: 1.8.0

No folders??Why can’t we select a folder when importing? Scrolling through the whole camera roll is tough..Version: 1.7.10

Nice trySeriously no CR2 editing?.Version: 1.0

Cr2 must be addedUnacceptable to not support most all cameras in your line for raw. Fix it please..Version: 1.1.0

Waste of TimeDownloaded the app only to find that my Canon EOS 6D was not supported. Someone at Canon has been promoted beyond their ability..Version: 1.3.30

Development EmbarrassmentOk, so the title is harsh, but I’m yet to find an image I can import. The app asks for access to photos locally stored on the iPad, but fails to import any. If the compatibility of use is so narrow this should be better communicated in the UX. Looking at the other reviews this is a recurring theme..Version: 1.0

Almost great!I would love to see a few things added before I choose to subscribe. Please add ability to import directly from an SD card or external drive. I don’t particularly enjoy the canon connect process. Please add a dust/spot removal tool as well. If you ever could, please consider adding the ability to edit directly on an external drive. Those 3 things would be absolutely perfect for me on my iPad. I would happily pay for your subscription if the first two suggestions happen and the third would be the icing on the cake. Oh and a way to organize photos in the app instead of just having them all on display at once. Other than those 4 things, I love the app. It’s great and I see it really working for a lot of us photographers..Version: 1.7.10

Canon Ripping Of CustomersIt’s bad enough a popular camera company has never included anything respectable for its customers for photo editing let alone now charging a subscription fee to use the terrible software they do provide! Perhaps Canon might one day reward their loyal camera & lens customers by not only supplying decent software but also including it with their premium camera prices?? Goodbye Canon….Version: 1.9.0
