✓ Far too expensiveDoesn't matter what i write as the powers-that-be wont allow it after my last review was removed. Far too expensive and extortionate when its cheaper on other platforms and they are superior versions. This has a bug that should've been noticed but wasn't play tested enough where the game wont allow you to transfer all your magic from character to character so you have to manually transfer each spell - utterly disgusting as this is so much more expensive that the superior version. Its even stated as having bugs and issues that square apparently thinks is worth the hefty price tag. Shocking from a company that has the capability to fix these issues yet won’t..Version: 1.0.0

✓ An “OK” port but could use more workKnown bugs aside, the graphics and frame rates have not been enhanced from what I can tell and the new features are missing a very important one for mobiles; save anywhere. That being said, it’s still FF8 on mobile. Honestly, I can live with everything except the “save anywhere” feature prevalent in most mobile ports of console games. ✓ SmallJust a little bigger screen size please. It’s really small, like if i didn’t have 20/20 vision I wouldn’t know what was going on. Valkyrie profiles not ridiculously small, nether is FF 9, but I might as well be playing this on an apple watch. Realistically i could just play FF 8 on an ipad or apple tv, but that’s not the point. ✓ Excellent, but desperately needs controller supportThis game is an excellent port of a classic RPG game from the 1990s. The character models look excellent. Understandably, the assets in the backgrounds still retain the old PS1 graphics. However, what is truly a hindrance to this game is the lack of console controller support. The on-screen controls are decent, however it hinders many aspects of the game (especially in mini-games, or when you need precise control of the characters, and especially when in battle). ✓ WhatHow can you charge such a large amount of money (for an app at least) and not include controller support? Got a brand new Kishi and I thought I should play this game first since it’s one of my favourites but I soon learned controller support doesn’t exist. Such a game I cannot fathom playing with touch controls. Is it such an inconvenience? I got the rockstar collection for the original price of this game and had a blast on the games included for over 100 hours now but there will still be that longing for a portable Final Fantasy VIII I wouldn’t mind playing. ✓ It stopped working.I tried using this on an iPad 8th gen and it stops working after it says square enix. Sometimes it will go to new game and then completely freeze. ✓ Currently completely useless as fails to saveI was looking forward to playing this, and suspected an issue after playing for about 5 mins, and then finding no saved game when I went back. But I thought maybe it was just unlucky, so I spent 3 hours playing, making sure to save multiple times as I went, only to find when I quit and returned, no sign of a saved game. I suspect it’s an issue with the iCloud save as there is no sign of a save in iCloud, so whatever it is trying to do, hasn’t worked despite me being connected to iCloud exactly as it says is needed. The game looks as good as I hoped, but unless this fundamental flaw is fixed, it’s unplayable, and it looked like there hasn’t been an update for a year, so I am not hopeful this is going to be fixed. I will be trying to contact them for support and failing that, seeking a refund, but writing this as a warning in case it saves anyone else..Version: 1.0.1
✓ Fix the X3 !!!!!Pretty much what you would expect. The graphics and models of characters and enemies have had an overhaul which is nice as the pixels from the original just wouldn't cut it today. My main concern is tho when you speed the game up for battles, this also adjusts the sensitivity of the cursor in battle which makes it almost impossible to use. ✓ Having trouble startingIt's difficult to give this a fair review particularly because I've reinstalled the app twice so far and it will not play. - iPhone 11 Pro Max - ver 14.4.2 When opening the app you're greeted with the FF8 logo on a white background with the words "tap to play." Once you tap the screen fades to black for about 30 seconds. In 4 out of 20 attempts the app then crashed. In 3 a logo would start to roll on screen but would freeze before finishing the word and then stay locked up until the app was forced close. 10 tries the screen just stayed black. 1 try got to the second Square Enix logo on black background before feezing, 2 times the app made it to the "New Game, Continue, Credits" screen then when selecting New Game the app crashes. I hope this somehow helps with diagnosing a potential bug with the app. FF8 is one of my favorite in the series and it's one of the only games I can think of that ends in the beginning (though poor localization in the original release makes these dots difficult to connect). I'm looking forward to being able to replay..Version: 1.0.0

✓ Still needs work.I love FF8. It’s good that I can finally play it on my tablet. Game still definitely needs work, especially with control and cloud support. Really wish they’d finish the game as a whole then release it. Also they need to add support for button mapping or any kind of config. ✓ Love the FF franchise.This seems like a good port. The graphics are good and game mechanics are ok. Been playing for several hours and keep encountering screen freeze. This completely locks the screen, no input or feedback. If you close the phone and reopen the game screen it shuts the game down. This can be an annoyance or very frustrating if you have not been saving at every opportunity. I like the game and nostalgia will keep me playing, I am just a little disappointed. ✓ You can only play it offline…To everyone having a problem playing this title — the issue appears to be with the cloud save server. The game tries to connect to it and then fails. And it doesn’t take failing to connect to the server gracefully. You do not need to enable airplane mode to play this game, unlike what other reviewers have said. Instead you just need to disable Internet access. So you can still use bluetooth controllers if you want! More than likely it is a server certificate or network protocol issue that cropped up with the 17.2 update. I am certain that all Sony needs to do is push a small update for the app, or possibly even just upgrade the server..Version: 1.0.1

✓ Requires Gamepad SupportVery simply: this is a 5 star game. No, it is. The one star rating is because you NEED gamepad support to fully enjoy it. You need to hit R1 to trigger the Gunblade. You need to be able to click a d-pad to activate Zell’s limit break. I realize that adding support and cloud saves are “coming.” And when they arrive, I’ll change my review. But until then, it’s absolutely flawless. It’s my favorite FF game and a fantastic romance. It’s a five star port of a wildly under appreciated 5-star entry in the series. ✓ Favorite Final Fantasy, but underwhelmed.This is by far my favorite final fantasy out of all of them. It also happens to be the first I have ever played. As stoked as I was to be playing it again on my phone, it is seriously under developed as a remake. Upgraded graphics, and playing it on my phone as opposed to an old console is great, but emulators have been allowing that for years, and with much better playability due to game hacking within the emulators. It wasn’t until i moved to IPhone that i lost the ability to play it on the phone. Adding a new game plus feature seems like it would be an easy feature to add to stand out above and beyond emulators. I don’t normally hack games, but I have spent 100’s of hours playing this game to have all cards, weapons, level stats, gf and abilities, and rare items. ✓ Mediocre at bestThe only reason I’m still forcing myself to play this is the premium price I had to pay for it. If it was a free app I would uninstall and forget it. The controls are so clunky and the only thing that makes it bearable is the sped up option and no random battles for traveling. ✓ Needs some improvementFirst off, this is my favorite game of all time. I know, I’m the minority. I’ve waited a long time for this. Just a couple of gripes. Firstly, I’m trying to figure out how my phone (11 pro max) overheats from playing a game from 1999 for 15 minutes. Optimizations I supposed. Second, the white home bar at the bottom of the screen is always present. Small issue but noticeable. ✓ Game is no longer working!EDIT FOR OTHERS AFFECTED BY THIS: Apparently putting your device in airplane mode makes the game actually function again without any issues… besides the obvious one of not being able to get achievements. OBVIOUSLY NOT IDEAL, A FIX IS STILL NEEDED. This game was working fine several months ago. Took a break from it and came back only to find that it does not work anymore, I’m assuming because of an iOS system update.
