RP Diet Coach & Meal Planner for Negative User Reviews

AppAfter a bit more research I have purchased your “simple template” much better suited to me..Version: 1.14.19

Not sure how to useReally like the awareness that comes from jigging macros around and this part of the app is very well done alongside the coaching sides. But be honest I’ve spent so long searching for how to put a custom food in I’ve got frustrated and given up! I also have to snack but there’s no way I can eat 5 meals with about 10g of carbs at each meal. That makes absolutely no sense for me. I need to eat something very small and quick between main meals but there’s no snack feature so I feel like I can’t use the app. It’s very rigid and my whole mentality is more free flow this is healthy and sustainable for me. I don’t want to borrow macros from here and there I just want to plan my food, be reminded and be done with it! I can’t see how anybody could maintain this rigidity every day forever so where does this kind of app lead for the majority? Overall think it’s a good app but maybe just not for someone like me..Version: 1.16.4

Solid but only for US. MyFitnessPal is easier and freeTried this out for a month or so. The concept is good and I respect RP strength a lot, but not a single brand of food I’ve ever used is in the app which just means I have to enter absolutely everything! The way that the macros are tailored to you each week and it shows you how much to weigh out, and I like how it it changes each week. unfortunately in this day and age things need to be convenient and having to type everything in for every single bit of food just made avoid the app..Version: 1.11.9

Bad user interfaceGarbage app many clicks to add only one food limited food will never be able to enter all foods with this lol.Version: 1.19.15

It is... but not like the templatesThe templates were hard to follow based on the “I didn’t bother to read the instructions” questions on FB. But if one reads the instructions and the free papers on why rp works and the way it is, the customer actually learns what’s effective and how to make the rules fit their life. With that knowledge and templates I could customize RP to fit my goals and life. The app dumbs down the whole process. The user doesn’t have to learn anything about nutrition. But in the process of making it so simple, it has lost all flexibility. It fits the uber-athelete doing intense training, and that’s it. Two minor glitches in the software itself. In its attempt to be super helpful in designing compliant meals it comes up with stupid quantities like 3.4 whole eggs and 4.3 strips of bacon. Second, the meal save function doesn’t work. I can create a compliant breakfast of two eggs, half strip bacon, 1 thin slice killer bread, and 1/2Tb jam, supplemented with 3/4 scoop of protein in water. I ask it to save that food combo as “eggs and toast.” Next week I try to populate my meal plan with “eggs and toast” and it puts all the foods in, but at stupid ratios; not the ones I saved. All in all the app is only slightly better than using the paper (pdf) templates and any random calorie counter..Version: 1.11.10

I’m sure it’s great.... butI have no doubt that if you know how to use this app you would get amazing results as RP knows their stuff. However, I found this app incredibly confusing. Specifically logging your food in Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3. Sometimes the app wouldn’t let me continue as I exceeded my fat for the meal, however I know that my daily total would be where it needs to be. Other times, I’d log food and certain macros wouldn’t get added to my daily total. I’m sure there are settings or changes you can make I entering the food, but I couldn’t figure it out in a reasonable amount of time. Again, I’m sure it’s great, but I didn’t have the time to get over the learning curve..Version: 1.14.18

RP Diet app reviewGreat app, with some really good features. Having now used both the Templates and the app, it would be great if you could add multiple foods to make up a macro in a meal. i.e. being able to add egg white and bacon say for your protein macro, or banana and blueberries for your carbs in another meal etc. Having the app do those calculations and adding more foods to the list would really take it to the next level..Version: 1.4.8

OverhypedDr mike rants and raves about this yet I can’t set a custom goal to lose weight faster than it thinks. Also I got no calories just macros which are useless I want calories not macros. Calculated my own calories from the macros and it’s the same number myfitnesspal gives. I consider myfitnesspal much better and user friendly. Sorry dr mike.Version: 1.21.16

UghhhSo I have the 2 week trial that’s not over until dec 4 .. I had initially been gaining weight with all the food and so it was automatically resetting everything for me and working out when I went to log my food it said diet ended did I want to start an new one ? So now it’s back to where it started i don’t want to go back To gaining to wait for it to readjust . Very frustrating. Anyway to fix? Update... I want to love this because it is easy... however, it’s not practical. Besides not having ways to incorporate different carbs or 2 different proteins in a meal I can figure out my own macros with a little focus . But the app will cut your carbs on a dime. I messed around with different weight los options like a greater amount of weight in a few months and then only 5 pounds over a few months. If I gained pound my carbs were slashed. I couldn’t realistically keep up with that. 60g carbs on a mod workout day. I was rationing workouts for carbs and then would end up binging somewhere during the week. I’ve done the templates with success so I will go back to that. No one has a post workout shake with a half a scoop of protein..Version: 1.4.10

Not exactly friendlyI was very excited to try this app from RPStrenght… I started using it this week and will give it a try, but my first experience with the app isn’t all that friendly. It’s a great way to PLAN your macro IN ADVANCE but that’s pretty much it. It’s doesn’t actually track your macro, if your intake is higher than prescribed it won’t let you enter in and adjust the other meals accordingly for example. There is no way to adjust the macro at all to adjust to your needs during the day. Adding the foods is another thing for me… they have a selected list but anything outside of it you won’t be able to add. All the barcodes I have tried so far don’t work… the simplest example is maple syrup… I really don’t like honey so my go to is maple syrup… there is no way for me to add it. Perhaps my objectives to plan in advance while also tracking my intakes and progress are just not quiet met with this app… I wouldn’t pay 200$/year for what it offers now I don’t think..Version: 1.18.1

Not surprisedBeen using RP coat diet app for a month and the results are incredible. Haven’t reach any of my goals and the constant need to adjust macros is mind boggling..Version: 1.21.11

Not as user friendly as expected. The concept of the app is great however the tutorials do not explain how to use it properly and when paying just for the macros on the basic plan, it is easy to go over on calories. I had signed up on a fat loss plan but ended up putting weight I had lost prior to getting the app back on. The app allows you to say whether you are feeling hungry and want your macros upped or if you want to continue to reduced macros, which is all good but without the fundamental understanding of exercise and calorie expenditure it’s easy to consume too much and for me the app just didn’t work in the way I’d hoped it would. Also being from outside the US, a lot of brands I’d use we’re not on the app making it not as convenient for me to use. The notifications for meals times and weigh ins etc was helpful as I am one who sometimes misses meal timings and the visual on weight progress is done on averages which is nice to see (just unfortunately for me mine was going in the wrong direction). If there was opportunity to talk to someone at the start to help understand how the app works and how to structure your meals etc, that would have been helpful..Version: 1.13.4

Bizarre meal timing and not user friendlyBe glad they offer a two week trial, because that’s about how long it takes to figure out how to navigate the app. The schedule you input and the subsequent timing for your meals is bizarre and there doesn’t seem to be anyway around it or ability to edit it. I sleep from 11-7 and work from 8 to 5 but when I add that into my schedule my meals times are 12:30, 3:30 and 9:30? I’m not eating that late at night because it will feel like force feeding food and I won’t sleep well. Plus, I’ll be ravenous by my first meal at 12:30pm. If I completely clear the schedule and choose three meals, it has me eating early in the morning, mid afternoon and late at night which seems ridiculous and doesn’t work for me. The food selection for meals is also extremely limited and ends up being widely inaccurate. I have to track via MyFitnessPal on the side to have a ballpark idea of what I’m eating. I’ve had good luck with different apps and programs in the past but this one is not intuitive or helpful to me. And if I am totally missing something and not using it properly, please let me know.Version: 1.15.3

Freezes, Crashes, Overly ComplicatedI used to love the early version of this app, but now, there are far too many lifestyle features to enter, it’s unclear how to save them (for example, if you enter the hours and timing for your sleep, and try to move on to the next page, it tells you that you can’t move on until you save it but there isn’t actually a findable button that says “Save” or anything like it), and the app constantly freezes. I hate that I have to give up on it because it used to be so helpful, but it’s way too frustrating to use now..Version: 1.14.11

Too AmericanNot overly compatible for Australian market, unless you stick to very basic meat, vege, rice, etc. Don’t even think of getting inventive with your meals. Unable to scan or add Australian foods like MyFitnessPal. Macros that are different every meal are extremely hard to prep for, unless you have a large chest freezer. Meal times not conducive to family life. I’m not making my wife eat dinner with me at 1630. Will be transferring to MyFitnessPal for simplicity and better compatibility with Australian market..Version: 1.15.11

Lacks FlexavilityGreat app if you’re a veteran gym rat and religious diet follower. I would not recommend this app to anyone trying to find their way in the gym or get started. I consider myself a pretty strict eater, but I enjoy trying new diets and often miss meals due to work. This app is difficult to adjust when things come up and you don’t hit your targets, instead of the app updating each meal when you miss one or miss macros, you have to adjust each meal to hit the target macros. It also does not allow you to go over or try a non-standard diet. It only allows you to follow the standard protein/fat/carb diet. If the developers are reading this, I would suggest evolving the app to be more flexible and use the AI aspect to analyze users progress based on the diet and make suggestions. When you go over/under/miss meals the app should have the option to auto realign. Finally, an option to add other diet options would be great. Keto, Carnivore and elimination diets are all options that could be added to attract new users and again the analyzation tool could be used to suggest diet changes based on the users progress and goals..Version: 1.21.16

Good as a plannerI was hoping for great stuff as have counted macros before and RP gets a great wrap, but find this app really underwhelming. I can see it’s designed as more of a planner than live tracker, and is a great way to see how much an upcoming meal will equate to, but is finicky if you change anything about your day. It’s not easy to add in an extra workout, or change my meal times if I am late/early, so I end up just leaving the data incorrect. Similarly, the limited/weird foods available to pick from means I am just substituting for what I am actually eating, which really defeats the purpose (i.e 7 types of spreadable cheese but no halloumi, and no cereals - even boring old bran flakes). I’m going to go back to a free app that has a wide range of foods that I actually eat, and lets me track accurately throughout my day. No one eats spreadable cheese anyway..Version: 1.14.19

Great app, but not yet suitable for plant basedI love the app, and the way it functions, it would be perfect if I ate a lot of meat but sadly it’s not set up to cater for a plant based diet very well. I rarely eat processed vegan protein such as tofu, seitan or take protein shakes and get my protein from Whole Foods such as legumes, nuts, quinoa... the app only allows me to count the carb/fat content of those foods and completely disregards their protein. Given that 100g black beans contains 9g of protein and 18g of carbs, it seems silly to disregard that protein when it’s a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein and my macros were set at 1.8:1. So, that considered I could easily hit my macros with a mix of some foods higher in protein if I could take the holistic content of the meal into account. If you eat meat, this app is great and will help you dial in your nutrition, if you’re whole food plant based probably best to look for alternatives..Version: 1.11.7

Great potential but limited flexibilityThis app has some fantastic qualities. I love that it automatically adjusts the amount of food to hit your macros. I like that it keeps you accountable and adjusts week over week the goal as per your preference. The most recent upgrades of the app are a huge improvement over the previous version. However the app has limited flexibility in what food you can input which makes it hard to calculate accordingly. I need to use another app to calculate some things and this is a HUGE downside for me. I think there needs to be improvements again before it’s value for money..Version: 1.13.3

Food choices are a let downLack of food choices are a let down. Macros seem to be completely out compared to the packaging of food whether weighed at raw or cooked weight. I dislike the lack of flexibility around meal times, I can’t stomach eating first thing in the morning and the app doesn’t allow you edit meal times. May work for some but the lack of flexibility makes me wonder how you can flexibly eat on such a rigid schedule..Version: 1.6.11

UnderwhelmingI was really looking forward to using this app because I herd some good feedback about RP strength.m but sadly it’s easy to to time consuming and complicating.Version: 1.13.4

Annoyed!Purchased a 3 month Subscription in January. After a few days found it wasn’t for me. Reached out to the company, they said I can’t have a refund but I can have an ebook and was told I had to cancel my subscription. I thought I had cancelled, only to be charged for another 3 months. Not sure why you can’t cancel through the App or the website but instead have to go to a different portal to be able to cancel! Really needs to be more user friendly so people are not paying monthly donations for something they are not using!.Version: 1.15.8

Good, but definitely not “autopilot”First off, the apps premise is great. I’ve been a trainer for 10 years but was looking for something to help with accountability for myself and clients who are looking for something as well. Most have used MyFitnessPal. The recommended macros are somewhat traditional. The meal tracking system is too tedious in my opinion. The assumption of “autopilot” came from the ad that sparked my interest. However, the app still requires manual entry of food. Which personally I don’t mind. But the “at/over/under macros” buttons are essentially useless. From what I found, no diet is created, only macros. Which clearly it’s up to us to create but for someone who is truly looking for “autopilot” this is not the app for you. The reminders are great. But the entry system has many flaws that I’ve read in other reviews as well. If I could change one thing, it’d be the at/over/under buttons actually logging that you hit your respective macros, rather than just leaving your food log blank. For myself, I’d like the option to enter the macros by themselves without having to enter food..Version: 1.20.2

I’m really struggling with thisAs the title says I am finding this app very difficult to use and understand, the macros it provides me seem almost impossible to match using the foods available in the very disappointing food database. It’s frustrating because I see all these other people on the Facebook groups that seem to be having success using it but I just can’t get started. Maybe I had an unrealistic expectation of apps like this taking some of the hard work out of nutrition but this things seems to be the opposite..Version: 1.7.10

Good scienceGreat science involved and starting to feel really good. However the actual interface of the app is painful to use. The meal plans should definitely come up with some sort of realistic guidance as well rather than the blandest of the bland. Maybe a cheap inspiration box you could pay for a good idea on an already balance meal that isn’t weird. I can only come up with weird combos. Tuna and oats for breakfast, yummy..Version: 1.11.4

Pretty goodThe app gets results if uses strictly, that’s where I give it most of its stars. That said, pen and paper gets you there too if you’re compliant. The app leaves a lot to be desired in terms of use ability. Once you end a diet phase you can’t see history. If you lock in next week’s macros incorrectly too bad, that’s your macros for the whole next week. I get not wanting people to adjust daily but at least on maintenance the user could get more control. Also, at least on maintenance, it would be cool if the user could control a little bit of the fat/carb split, like go a little heavier on one or the other based on preference. Food database is weak and it is unclear if the erroneous errors ever get cleaned up. I created a ton of customs that aren’t searchable that is now just a long ugly list. When I add new products with images and all it is unclear if they ever get added to the database. When copying a meal be careful when you edit, I’ve accidentally edited the previous (copy from) meal instead of the new meal several times. There are several more examples. Some of the stuff is small, some big, some hard to fix, some easy. From the update history it doesn’t look like they put a lot of effort into improving the app, really just maintaining it. Would be nice to see some small but impactful updates. Tons of potential here..Version: 1.15.9

Update 👎I went from the templates to the app about 3 months ago and loved it. Super simple to manipulate for what I needed, which as a mom of 3 under 5 is constant variation in my days/workout times/ meal times. Then they forced an update on me. The update was bugged and wouldn’t let me go to a fat loss template from maintenance even though I have more than 70lbs to lose, then the sent another update that supposedly fixed it. I haven’t tried yet bc my maintenance has me in a deficit right now and I will most likely lose here, but it’s weird to be cutting in maintenance. Anyway my main problem with this update is how much of a pain it is to manipulate your daily changes. I suppose it’s great for people who always get up at the same time, always workout at the same time, etc but for people with varied schedules it’s cumbersome to change daily variances and I have found myself doing more of if it fits in your macros style dieting via the rp app just so I don’t have to try to figure out how to change my workout/sleep time just right so it doesn’t mess up my macros. If this isn’t sorted I’m going back to the templates which is a shame because I really liked how the app operated in regards to inputting foods and meal time reminders. But realistically if it’s too styled to be functional, I can’t justify the cost..Version: 1.14.4

Really, really prefer the UA appFound it not user friendly at all..Version: 1.14.21

Too complicatedThis app would benefit from a tutorial on how to use it. I am a university lecturer and I struggled to find what I would deem a meal that would met all the macros. It would be of benefit to have some simple recipes suggestions that would meet some basic needs and then either add on or take away as required. Plus I tried the barcode thingy but it doesn’t recognise foods from the U.K. yet or have I been a total idiot and not discovered some aspect that provides this. I would really love to use this app but at the moment it isn’t what I am looking for..Version: 1.11.4

App is Good but not GreatThe app is good in the sense that it’s easy to track your macros with the endless amounts of food options to plug in to the app, as well as including nutrition info for some items that aren’t listed. The downside of the app is it doesn’t replace having a diet coach in person tracking your progress. The first couple weeks I started I dropped 7 lbs which is attributed to cleaner eating and less bloating. My weight stayed pretty consistent afterward with minimal movement downward on the scale but my body composition started to form nicely. Due to not losing weight, the app recommended I reduce my nutrients. I did start to lose weight but I started to feel a little flat. Eventually I plateaued on my weight again and it recommended to reduce nutrients. I asked a friend who did amateur bodybuilding and was told my fats and carbs were way too low for the daily activity I did. He did say the protein was on point but I need to bump everything else up. It’s a great tool to track your protein but I think tracking your progress strictly in the scale can be a little frustrating. I feel for some people this app in conjunction with working with a nutritionist is amazing, but by itself can be a challenge..Version: 1.18.1

Needs metric measurements100% a useful and beneficial app, but the lack of expanded food lists and metric measurements means it is far too time consuming to utilise at this point - but will continue to revisit and make use of a subscription once it has updated.Version: 1.12.0

Room for improvementWhat I like in this app is the design, looks easy to use, and the graph is a great tool to visualise progress. The way it could be better is by introducing European products, the software seems to be designed primarily for U.S. customers. As I live across the great pond it doesn’t recognise products I consume even if they are common ingredients or food, which means I have to type the macros individually each time. If the developer is keen to improve the software, I’m sure it will more popular over other existing apps..Version: 1.15.8

MehI’m a nurse with a constantly rotating schedule with multiple jobs, so pre setting my wake up bed times and workout was a bit much. The app is great for someone with a set schedule, just didn’t work with my organized chaos👎🏼.Version: 1.8.10

Still too buggyImprovements have been made but had to end my diet early to get out of some bugs the app has.Version: 1.21.2

Great app - amazing Programm - horrible user experienceThis app has been recommended to me and I started using it and it was amazing from the start ... until I got something wrong, but in a wrong number, or typo in a weigh in ... boom - your screwed, have to quit your diet and restart over. It is super frustrating and I can’t believe that it should be so hard to modify a weigh in etc. If it screws up my diet plan for the review weigh in next week (because I will have gained 30kg after losing 30kg this week) I am cancelling my subscription.Version: 1.13.4

Low ratingNo very user friendly.Version: 1.19.17

To dietTried the two week trial and decided not to go ahead cancelled app as we could not find out how stop the subscription still getting charged two months later and can’t get any info on how to stop!.Version: 1.7.10

Overly complicatedThe app itself is confusing. Hard to operate and very fussy. The diet plan was unrealistic, the levels of food to eat were definitely not achievable nor was the timing. Eating at 4am on a Sunday when I’m asleep? Unlikely..Version: 1.15.11

I don’t understand how to proceed.I bought the app but need more instructions. I’d rather have food ideas to go with the macros.Version: 1.14.21

Rigid and inaccurateOverall the functionality of the app was good, and the app is cheaper than my fitness pal. The app is basically unusable because of its rigidity. If you need to make adjustments it’s impossible and leads you to entering inaccurate data just to close out the screen. You have to balance your macros if you don’t fit them exactly, you cannot be over macros for any given meal, and protein macros cannot be increased. Portion sizes are pre decided, and if you adjust them and go over for a meal you have to balance it out from other meals So your tracking is no longer accurate. You can pull meals forward from last week, which is really convenient. You cannot eat a meal during a time you have labeled busy, and you cannot change that time, which leads to having to enter meals at different times then they are actually eaten. If you cannot guarantee a meal time at work and mark it as busy time in the app — but some days you can grab a snack or a shake you cannot enter it in, or create a new meal for that purpose. You cannot move your training days either, so if you need to train on a day that is marked a non training day, your macros will not change for that day. If you moved training it should pull your already entered macros over for you and rebalance them so you know what you now have to eat. I really wanted to use this, but it does not fit my lifestyle and I’m wasting time entering foods into the app that don’t actually reflect what I’ve eaten..Version: 1.19.19

It’s a glorified Macro PlanAnd the community is rude and unkind if you dare ask questions. Definitely not a program or community I want to be a part of - let alone PAY for..Version: 1.21.11

ConfusingCan’t do a workout when you select a busy time (for IF). So if I select busy between 7pm and 11am to stop food being scheduled, I then can’t select workouts? I then get told to have a full breakfast 1 hour before a workout? Also, trying to get macros to add up is like a painful Tetris puzzle. And the steps? Should this not say protein carbs and fats instead of steps? I can rarely make things fit especially as here I have a limited range of food options. Also US only database. Nothing from Europe found on scanner. Maybe some meal ideas would help? I feel like I’m missing something, for a newbie it’s very confusing… maybe good for hardcore trainers but feel it’s not beginner friendly..Version: 1.15.11

DisappointedSay, I am disappointed as an understatement. First, there is no free subscription trial, so you don’t know if this app is going to work for you until you front the full cost of either a monthly subscription or yearly. Secondly, it says it’s meal planner, but that’s not exactly true. The meals that *you* create are what they track, there are no built-in meal plans or guides to help you. By far the most disappointing $25 I’ve spent. I regret my subscription..Version: 1.12.13

Not for UKI really tried my best to use this app and stick with it but inputting every single food manually as it’s not in the database got very boring very quickly which is a real shame because the idea is amazing when the food database incorporates UK foods and actually finds something I will use again, I used for around four weeks and it found not one food item.Version: 1.15.8

Free trial? Not so sure! Was looking forward to trying this, and I fee a bit bad leaving a 3-star, but come on isn’t there a way of letting people trial it without actually subscribing? Also, when entering data it is all in US measurements, surely in this day and age it’s simple for the devs to put in UK/Metric options too? This makes me feel like a lot of the food database will be full of US foods and measures, which is also a PITA for conversions..Version: 1.8.10

Love itI be love the app. It would be helpful to be able to build recipes and create serving sizes with macros..Version: 1.12.13

Work on user abilityThe macro calculation in this app is a great thing. As someone who is experienced with tracking and calculation, I think the app does a good job. I also like that I have weigh-in reminders. The reminder to eat is a great feature for new macro users, but beyond stacking carbs around your workout, I feel like the four hour gap between most meals is just a little overly simplified. Personally, I’m not a late eater (I’m old, 9:15 is late for me). Now, the user ability. All of the above mentioned are great features. The biggest issue with this app is the sliding bar meal tracking. It provides for no wiggle room. What if you didn’t realize you were running out of chicken and had to substitute something that couldn’t possibly fit your protein/fat ratio for that meal? It doesn’t really allow for these instances. Furthermore, it feels like the sliding bar is meant to be fancier and pull away from tradition meal trackers like MyFitnessPal. Unfortunately, it’s trying to fix what isn’t broken. The frustration of figuring out how to use this app to track meals could kill a newbie’s confidence. Just give me a barcode scanner and let me figure the fit life out..Version: 1.11.9

Very FrustratingI purchased a year of the RP Diet App as I want to learn how to do macros and lost some weight. I did the trial just to learn and continued adding foods causally for a while with the mindset that I would start my actual diet as soon as my kids went back to school when I’d have more time to dedicate to planning meals religiously as the diet requires for success. So the day came last Monday and I went to end my current “diet” that I was on for a few weeks where I was learning the ropes and went to restart the actual diet and the app would not allow me (it gave no warning that I’d be locked out of the fat loss diet). It insisted I need 1:1 coaching and had to contact RP which I did and explained via email. They got back to me and told me to hold tight till the next version came out thus delaying my diet, so I did. I have now waited 5 days and the new version is out (.4) and the error is not fixed and it still will not let me start a fat loss diet which is pretty frustrating after I was motivated, paid $149, and had it planned out and then was told it would be fixed and it’s not. So I’m still here waiting just playing with the incorrect maintenance diet till someone at RP helps me..Version: 1.14.4

Need update your foods listNeed more food options you guy need seriously update food options it’s really lacking you don’t have GF or collagen protein powder so many foods missing it make it hard you end putting in something that may be similar witch Mack you very unsure wether you balance your meals right.Version: 1.7.10

Good but needs custom food additionsMacros are great, it would also be useful to show total calories and add the ability to add custom foods..Version: 1.7.9
