✓ This app is the worstI scheduled a video visitation today for 12:30pm with my boy friend and as it said not to be late for your visitation or it will be canceled I was 20 minutes early to my visitation and when the time came for my visitation I didn’t get a notification or anything I didn’t even receive a email stating that my visitation was scheduled like they said this is ridiculous this app is not even worth your time so please don’t download it I wish I would have never made this mistake then they take forever to answer customer service this doesn’t make any sense none what so ever !!! I’m requesting a refund.Version: 2.6

✓ SadThis app. So expensive and not very private. Any letter you is visible by everyone and forever digital footprint. This country went to many wars and service men sent letters back and forth to family as they fought for freedom. Yet my servicemen is in Chicago and it has been 2 weeks and still not received my postal letter sent. So does this mean someone high up in the military is blocking regular mail? Forcing people to use this app. Our country made through many wars without this. Even sent money through app and took more than 3 weeks for enlisted to receive. So explain the benefits again? ✓ DO NOT USE THIS APP!I never write reviews but I am definitely writing one now. I would give this app zero stars if I could. Do not use it. It is a total rip off. Do you want to have a nice video chat with your loved one? Well don’t expect to if you’re using a smart phone because the app doesn’t work on a smartphone unless you pay to buy a specific off brand web browser called Puffin. So I said “you know what. I’ll pay for it the web browser.” And I did. Then I tried to set up a web visit and the site says they won’t charge me now, I have to wait until it gets approved by the inmate I scheduled the visit with. Well guess what they did. When he approved it instead of them charging me they charged HIM $7.50! I am a done with the gettingout website and the terrible app. Absolutely ridiculous..Version: 1.5
✓ Unfortunately awfulI very rarely bother writing reviews, but I have to say this service is awful. Not that there is much choice, as we have to use it to communicate. I’ve been using this app for just over a month now and make two calls every weekend. Most of the time it freezes and disconnects. The app doesn’t let you try again because it gives you an error that you have a call scheduled for this time slot. Really disappointed we have to use this kind of garbage especially for as much money as they charge us..Version: 2.6
✓ Writing Letters is Better!I wrote a review last night, but just like this stupid app, that’s not working either!!! Seriously.... don’t bother with this app. You’ll end up way more frustrated than gratified. I think that it’s a messed up thing that they have monopolized a market that no one else can get access to & they can’t even make the stupid thing work. It’s not like anyone cares that you can’t get it to work. They’re only locked up because they deserve to be anyways, right? The app has very clear & definite issues that are ongoing, yet they have not addressed them. I sat on hold last night for about 40 min total & each time, the online support spent maybe 3 min & finally just told me to uninstall & reinstall. I did & it’s worse than it was! Whatever... ✓ HorribleI can’t even see my loved one. I made a visit to see him via video chat and I have the iPhone XR. Why is my phone not connecting our video ? He sat there for no reason the whole time and I kept trying to video chat him but nothing happened I’m very disappointed. It kept saying connecting but it wouldn’t connect a thing whoever created this app needs to get fired at creating apps I’m highly dissatisfied bunch of dummies whoever designed it it was poorly designed as well. ✓ Video visit on the getting out AppThis app is very terrible the video is horrible they would not let you see your loved one you can see your own face you can hear her talking but you can’t see her and then when she tries to call back they tell you your seconds is that you only have like 1012 seconds in the second go by so fast is horrible they take your money and tell him may I think it is just horrible that’s why I didn’t give you no stars because you guys need to improve this I Messages works fine but the video call they need to improve it they make our love was by another tablet telling them that it’s gonna work it is a good one but it’s horrible.Version: 2.6
✓ THIS APP IS AWFULAs this app is suppose to be a “luxury” for us to use since the jails have done away with in person visits. This is the absolute worst app I’ve ever came across. For one it NEVER works. It’s constantly freezing or cutting off the call minutes in. When the picture freezes the sound cuts off and kicks you out of the call. I do not mind paying for this service, but only if I get what I’m paying for!! As much money as the developers make off of this app you’d think it would have a 5 star rating. ✓ Needs much more info.So it appears every single person that tries to use this has problems getting started. You would think that would tell someone somewhere to GIVE US MORE INFO! But NOOOO. We have to struggle through it. That being said it works most of the time but today it says “Video failed to load” tried several times from both ends and it’s not working! ✓ Absolute garbageThey have no issue with their app taking your money but when you actually try to send a message, it’ll keep saying insufficient funds and then your inmate will be able to send you a message and probably even see that you’re online…but you won’t be able to respond to it and look like you’re just ignoring them. It’ll ask you to deposit more money when you can clearly see the money you’ve already deposited!!!! They could work a little bit harder to make things efficient for family members that just desperately want to stay in contact with their love ones. I feel like they make these types of things so complicated and glitchy that people end up giving up and inmates are stuck even more alone. It’s already obvious enough that putting human beings (or any mammal) in a small cage is not beneficial in the long term…and very few people make a genuine turn- around afterwards. Keeping human beings in a cage without filtered water, vitamin d and only offering heavily processed foods is basically the most cruel punishment that you can give someone. My best friend was INNOCENT, but had the jury not found her as so she would have been in prison for an entire year. That’s a whole different story.. the screwed up judicial system. Maybe we should start looking THERE. So yep… the tablets are nice, except for the fact that the apps they offer aren’t actually WORKING!!!!.Version: 2.7
✓ App developer should be sent to jail!!This app is the worst!! If I could give negative stars I would! Poorly written and developed with basically no customer service!! It’s basically fraudulent because they take your money but don’t fix any internal bugs or server errors. I have iPhone12 but also tried on a burner phone.. it connected ONCE then never again no matter what I tried.. kept saying my microphone and camera weren’t enabled even though I zoom all the time for work and all settings on my phone for this app were enabled. Also, the help “advice” for the phone app that pops up is clearly just copied from the website advice ie: “click the lock icon next to the url to unlock your microphone” when on a phone app, that clearly is not applicable. Telmate app developer should be arrested and thrown in jail!! Then maybe they’d fix this app. This is just white collar stealing of people’s hard earned money. They should be held accountable. The jail doesn’t care..and I’m sure Telmate banks on that fact, but as I said, this IS FRAUD and STEALING.. I’m calling my state representative next. ✓ Doesn’t workI have tried everything, I even have 2 grandchildren who could do anything with a laptop, and after spending more than 2 hours they can’t get the app to work! What chance does a 70 something have? 2 or 3 years ago I used this system with the same laptop and it worked well. But now they have a new name and they don’t list Delaware. When I asked the person on the other end of the help line about the name change, he said that he never received any information on the new website….. That’s the help line !.Version: 2.6
✓ Doesn’t WorkSo sad that this app is being used as our only way to connect with our loved ones in jail. Downloaded it, but have never been able to actually schedule a visit. Contacted customer service, added all the info I needed to, did everything right and it STILL does not work for me! Their conclusion? “Your facility only accepts calls and messages but doesn’t support video visits” um, NO. I called the jail facility and they were surprised to hear that, as that’s not the case and it’s even been working for others! I have an iPhone 12, so is that why it’s not working? If so that’s so ridiculous! Why can’t I use my computer? They force you to download the app on your phone but it doesn’t even work. Guess I won’t be able to see my husband’s face until he gets out. ✓ My information is being shared unlawfully to inmates all around the USMy information is being shared without my permission to inmates I don’t even know and at this point in time it scares me. Couple nights ago I got repeated calls from Waco Texas after 10pm I didn’t answer because I don’t know anyone from there finally a voicemail was left on and upon retrieving it I found out it was a correctional facility so you know how I feel. Again I got someone video calling me then sent me text messages saying I requested him and I should answer the next time he calls. I’m about to get my lawyer involved because this is ridiculous..Version: 2.6
✓ FIX IT!!!!!!I absolutely love the idea of being able to video visit!! However, it’s a huge inconvenience when the video consistently cuts off after 60 seconds but still charges at least 25 cents. So naturally you try calling back right. And then again it hangs up but charges you. More than not the video is delayed and skips so it doesn’t match up with what you’re saying. There are times i use the visit now and it says it’s setting up the visit. Then a box pops up stating visit now it not available. Hmm that’s strange it was just setting up. So i go back to use visit now and conveniently (sarcasm) it says i already have a video set up HOW!!!!!!!!! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS JUST FIX IT!!! ✓ An extremely poor app that rarely worksUnfortunately its also potentially the only app you can use if your loved one is in a facility that Telmate holds the contract for. I have experienced nothing but problems. Scheduled meetings rarely work out with errors, time conflicts even though there are none, no kiosks available even though the scheduled meeting has been accepted. On and On. Very frustrating to have weeks go by and not be able to visit with constant errors. Not just on mobile devices like iPad but also on the PC based version. In the day and age of FaceTime, zoom, messenger, WhatsApp etc this service is so poor its barely conceivable. Telmate get your act together these incarcerated people rely on some hope from the outside world..Version: 1.5
✓ “already have visit scheduled!” NOT!Why are there two apps for this? They freeze up then say there’s a visit scheduled when there aren’t any; there’s no way to delete a non-existent visit! I finally got a customer service number from global tel link(GTL) who was just sued for stealing money for not returning funds to families after non-use! They said there is a glitch that they’d fix, but still hasn’t. It took forever to set it up correctly! Strange how slow they are to fix the problems with visitation, but made sure there were no glitches to take families’ money! It is the family members on the outside who are trying to stay in touch with their loved ones! Such a shame that they capitalize off of the suffering of families experiencing trauma!.Version: 2.6
✓ HorribleI’m trying to figure out how this app is still allowed to do business. I’ve reinstalled it multiple times. Just says “waiting for participate” when they are right there. I’ve called and they say everything is fine on my end. Try again- same thing. I log in at the five minute mark- still a problem. You try to refresh screen- it deletes your visit. I tried from a laptop- same thing. (iPhone 12) mobile site- same thing. Request desktop site - same thing. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s frankly a horrible business model. ✓ Garbage.This is definitely a blessing to be having during these types of times but it would definitely be a lot more helpful if the website was updated. ✓ “Scheduled visit”My boyfriend only is allowed one hour a day on weekends for visits and the whole time he gets the hour it’s us trying to call each other because it doesn’t work! An app I pay for doesn’t work! How is that legal? He’s stuck in his cell 22 hours a day so to COVID 19 and the only time I get to see him or talk to him the app doesn’t work. First of all it should be free to talk to our loved ones, second of all if we pay for it IT SHOULD WORK. ✓ FraudFirst it’s doesn’t explain you have to p it money on both your account and the inmates account to cross communicate! I have an iPhone 12 Pro and the video app did not work. I received notice of an incoming call and when tried to answer received and error! The “test” just pops up with a photo “your device is not compatible update your browser” it’s an app??? The only way I can see my loved one is if I call her through my computer and then I have to use my account which I’ve depleted. The money in her account is just sitting there because she can never successfully call me no matter what device I use. It’s pure theft. When you call customer service they basically tell you “oh well” at lest advice what devices or browsers actually work. What type of tablets are they using in the jail. ✓ HOR-RI-BLEEEEThis app is HORRIBLE ! I’ve been speaking with customer service for 2 WEEKS trying to correct the spelling of my name. They kept saying within 24 hours it would be updated and EVERY TIME I checked it NEVER was. I can not see or read ANY messages that I have. I continue to get an error message. I’ve had this app for about 2 and a half weeks and have NOT been able to keep in contact with the inmate through this app. It’s becoming very annoying and stressful because my time has been wasted on numerous occasions. I am no longer optimistic about FaceTiming my loved one. I will have to settle for phone calls. I’m so mad I put my information into this app for it to be USELESS !!!!!! ✓ Please fixThis app has various different issues. First when the call come through it’s just a banner notification, no noise. I literally close out everything on my phone to make sure it comes through. My spouse often says he trying to call me on it and I never get the calls. It opens inside an internet browser not the actual app. My spouse and I have never been through a situation like this before. This app helps us to sane to see each other’s faces. We both get upset and frustrated when it doesn’t work. Due to Covid the jail is closed for in person visits. This app would be great if it was better designed. Of course the jail doesn’t care about the inmates or their loved ones and how this situation affects people mental health state. The app is his creating more frustration on both ends. ✓ The worstThis app and the company behind it are the worst. As a application developer myself I can tell this was written very poorly. The navigation is poor, you often have to use browser back button to go to a page because the app or website doesn’t have have links to go back to certain places. The server that hosts the website and app crashes all the time throwing 500 errors. Basically, the app was designed poorly, the infrastructure for the website and app cannot handle the load and we have no choice because this is what the prison decided they would partner with. Their customer service is also terrible. They just try and get off the phone with you as soon as possible. I couldn’t change my primary number and had to call in. The website had already marked my number as the primary but I guess it was not really set as my primary. This prevented me from doing anything because the money I had added was tied to my number (marked primary) and not the other number. The company probably does not care to improve anything as we have no choice on providers..Version: 1.1

✓ Annoying as heck to set upI had to call 3 times when trying to set this up. Every time I got a different answer. I already had the GTL app for the telephone account and I am an approved visitor. I had to give them my birthdate. Then on the 3rd call (even though I clicked on confirm email multiple times) I was told they have to send me a separate email to respond to. They require the front and back of your id, your last 4, and a selfie. So, essentially I’ve given them all they need to completely steal my identity. But the kid on the phone assured me it would be secure; while a notice on the app told me they had a breach…. Why? Then I tried to send a picture of 2 pair of glasses and the picture was denied for “other”? Now it won’t allow me to send pics from my iPhone, it wants a jpeg. I’m sorry but you want me to download every picture onto a PC to change the format? Can I even do that on a Mac? It is nice that they can get our messages on the tablet, but we are in month 16 of this being rolled out in Ohio and you are still having that many issues? My family and friends used to send messages JPay but most of them don’t want to because of the extreme amount of personal information that has to be submitted..Version: 2.8

✓ AwfulThis app is horrible! What a waste! It works maybe 50% of the time & with the corona virus there is no visitation. Prisons are fully taking advantage of the situation and using this subpar app to profit. The company that has this app is also profiting and it is not even reliable! What a sham! ✓ Fix it pleaseThis app would let me call just one time only for a day or if not it wouldn’t let me at all. ✓ So bad.Since the pandemic I haven’t been able to visit my sister. So the jail she’s in gives them an hour worth of 15 min visits on this app. In the past 2 months , I’ve been able to talk to my sister one 15 min visit completely and 8 mins of a second visit. Any other time there’s something either wrong on her end or mine. It either says “ oops the page you are looking for no longer exists or has moved. It’s an app!!! Or it says I need additional verification although I’ve sent in all info and forms and was approved and spoke with her already on this app. When you try to submit a tech support form you just get the submit circle that’s loading and loading and loading... then it just craps out on you. ✓ Worst app I’ve ever experiencedI usually don’t take the time to write reviews on apps, but this one is so terrible that I have to. You would think with all of the money you have to funnel into this app to even use it to contact your loved one, that maybe some of that money could be used for app development. When you’re even able to use the app, it’s at most okay, but the connection is typically laggy and the audio/video quality is subpar at best. It often disconnects the call before going through, and of course you are charged for this as well. It’s nice to be able to contact your loved one but this app is very frustrating to use. ✓ Not impressedGo visits isn’t really an app but a portal to the website. On my iPhone 12 Pro Max my bf isn’t even able to see me. Luckily there is still audio n I have allowed for video and microphone but for some reason the video doesn’t show on his end. It’s the worst service. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars on communicating with my bf and had poor services but worse than that gtl/telmate customer service is hands down the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I got penalized for a mistake they made and couldn’t even get a credit back to my account because it wasn’t put where it was supposed to go. ✓ Waste of money and memoryThe app for the phone is terrible, at best, and the only way to not have a semi not awful connection (if it will even connect on both ends) can be had is on an actual computer that’s plugged in with an Ethernet cable. There’s nothing quite as heart breaking as trying to explain to a crying toddler why daddy couldn’t finish saying good night. This company has absolutely no issue making thousands a year per prisoner, but can’t at least provide them or us with a half way working app to communicate. I’d love to know where even a few grand of the money goes to, because it clearly isn’t going towards product development, quality control, or even reading these comments. ✓ HORRIBLEThere are hundreds of thousands of people that are incarcerated that uses tellmates phone service and as much as it costs and as many people that they have to a cell you would think they’d have better service and equipment. The video visit always freezes up on you during the visit, the buttons that are on the phone receiver that makes the inmates uses to call out to love ones are stuck so inmates aren’t able to properly use the services that we’re paying for. They charge you $20 to put $100 dollars on an inmates trust account which is extremely high when western union doesn’t even charge that much! It says schedule a visit and is left pending approval and you never get to have a visit during your selected scheduled visit time! While you’re on your visit someone else can call in and interrupt your video visit which is unfair especially when it’s costing us money..Version: 1.5
✓ Worst app everThe first few visits were OK then they implemented this feature that blurs out the background and I can't seem to hear my husband or anything for that matter I get cut off a minute in two minutes and I had $80 in my account and I'll say about $20 of it went to good video chats all of the rest was just a waste I've called a few times with no luck I always get transferred somewhere else I leave my feedback all the time they do nothing to fix any of the bugs or errors I don't get the messages from the messaging app until up to a week later the messaging app is supposed to be so that I can receive and send messages so that he knows when I'm calling or so that I know when he's calling, totally redundant..Version: 2.6
✓ Con artist!I downloaded this app to reach my brother, added $30 the first time, it never showed up but removed from my bank with the hour, I waited 24 hours thinking maybe it had to process, still nothing! Added $15 more the next day, STILL NOTHING! spent an hour on the phone with their customer service from them to tell me that I would have to add more money to “see if it worked” that the money went to my brothers “account” at the jail *IT DIDNT*. Per the customer service rep with this app, I still had all of the money showing so when I asked for them to just refund my money and be done with it, I was told “no we can not refund your money”!! ✓ Worst app everThis app is a joke. It is so frustrating trying to use it. I have written to customer support over and over and been on hold till I finally hung up. I email telling them exactly what is wrong and get back a rude email saying I didn’t send enough information so call customer service which never goes through either. What a waste of time. ✓ Too many issue NO Customer Service & Support!!!There is too many issues with this app. One minute all Ohio prison show in the drop down next minute they don’t. I have money on the account but can no longer send messages. The error says my account is insufficient while my profile shows my balance has more than enough. I added more money just because I’m trying to check on my loved one and it’s still saying the same. Call the customer service number and it directs you to the website which has the same issues. When you choose the visiting option to speak with a live human being it say hold while we get you connected and hangs up on you. This is so frustrating! I’d rather they had kept JPay instead. At least they were not stealing your money and allow your message to go and video visitations to be set up as described. Fix you bugs and glitches and get real customer support call reps to assist with this foolishness!!!.Version: 2.8
✓ Terrible application, waste of timeAs most of the reviews state, this application is worthless. After many tries, it will not even access the video or microphone of my iPhone 12. My iPhone is running the latest iOS software. This application has not been updated in over a year, which is inexcusable when so many people are stating that it doesn’t work. The current 1.7 application rating is far too high. The vast majority of reviewers gave the application one star. In my case, and I am sure in the case of others, it was assigned one star, because zero stars was not an option. This is truly unfortunate , and because the company behind the application has the contract for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. This means that the inmates and families are not getting the services promised by the company when the company was awarded the contract. However, inmates and their families are apparently not a high enough priority to get the company to deliver what they have promised. This application should be updated every week or two until it is functional for at least 75% of the users, not less than once in a year..Version: 2.6

✓ AngryI’ve called and reported that the system haven’t been working for 5/6 days now! I was told it’s my fault and there’s nothing wrong with the system. That theirs others using but she could see all the decline visits!! Oh really but there’s nothing wrong! I’ve tried deleting the app and reinstalling. Made a new account also factory reset my laptop and the same thing happens. I’ve tried on others phones as well! Keep saying failed to connect it works sometimes on my side but it fails when he tries on his side and it’s very aggy. I have kids that want to see their father me that want to see my husband! Come on 5/6 days! I don’t care about the free 15 mins y’all giving out I make sure he has his own money and there’s $27 in there now that can’t be use! ✓ Horrible Money scammersThe getting out and this app has been nothing but problems after problems and all they do is take your money and then you aren’t able to use it. I put money on my getting out app to send messages to my fiancé and I paid for the messages to send him but he can’t even read them because he has to pay to open them?! So what am I paying for?! And they tax you ridiculous amounts for nothing. Horrible really ghetto stuff and I don’t know how they can get away with this but don’t even download the apps just put money on the phone when they call you put your card info that way it’s the safest way.Version: 2.7
✓ Getting Out , Do Better PlsI use the messaging service which is way better. With this, Every time I try to click on my friend’s name it doesn’t work at all and keeps bringing me back to where I started. I feel as if they should just do away with this and find another service. Even on my laptop I can’t even hear him and it’s slow. At this point just give them free phone calls of 30 minutes because all these apps are becoming useless. ✓ So badThis app is terrible. It is not easy to navigate a simple action. It takes your money. It finally sends a message I sent three days ago. AND STILL GET CHARGED. Unfortunately the customer service is horrible they don’t understand you and pass you over and over to someone who has no clue about the GettingOut telemate app. The video visits never work. And it also charges you. Once in awhile they will refund you or give you a free visit. I don’t care about the money as much as missing really important moments with my love. Family gatherings and special occasions. I hope they can try to figure out some solution to these problems. ✓ Issues logging inI auto filled my log in information and it kept saying it was incorrect. Even using my phone number and pin which I know is correct. So I did the “forgot password” and changed it. My iPhone made a strong password and I used the auto fill with the new password when I went to log in with it. Then it LOCKED my account. So I called customer service and it said I would talk to a representative in about 30 seconds… and that’s when it hung up on me. I was using speaker so I know for sure that I didn’t hang up. So essentially I can’t log in with my email, phone number or password even though they’re correct. Changing my password is pointless. And I can’t talk to customer service. Mind you I’m signed in on Getting out, but Visit Me won’t work? You’d think the app would be at least halfway working before rolling it out to this many people.Version: 2.8
✓ If you like freezing and pour call quality download nowI’m gonna go out on a limb and assume this company does not care about quality service, it is just an opportunity to make money. Constant freezing, no sound, drop calls. Logs out while trying to message or access services within the app. I only have one contact which keeps disappearing, and now some other individual popped up on my list of contacts? I have contacted customer support, but have received no response. From the reviews, these have been ongoing issues. If they haven’t fixed them in two years, they have absolutely no plan on addressing them..Version: 2.6
