Riffer for Positive User Reviews

Riffer is fabulousThis app is fabulous. And thanks for fixing the MIDI settings in the plugin..Version: 3.1.5

Brilliant! This app is by far the best and most feature rich generative midi sequencer that I've ever used, and I've bought FAR too many! Instructions or a tutorial would be a welcome addition. But after playing around for a bit everything was very clear and functioned flawlessly. A feature request would be to save the current generated sequence as a midi file. Other than that, I couldn't be happier!.Version: 2.0

I like it but...Along with the another review I cannot use it properly due to the UI size. If that’s fixed that will be brilliant. Also please make this Auv3 as it will be so much more integrated then..Version: 1.0.1

Great App!There are several apps out there for this function, to generate “riffs” and melodic ideas, and I think I’ve tried most of them. This one seems to work best for me. Lots of options, pretty easy to get to them, and it just works. Also works beautifully as an AU plug-in; really good of the developers to include this capability..Version: 1.1.2

The interface really helps turn randomness to musical results quickThe ability to lock certain elements, keys, ranges, steps, notes and randomize makes this one of the top 3 randomizers I’ve used..and I’ve used easily over a hundred from Max devices to iPad apps..Version: 3.1.1

At last a good sequencer for the iPad!The Riffer app is the first really decent sequencer I have used for iPad that plays nice with hardware synths. I feed the MIDI out from Riffer to my MIDI/CV converter to control my modular synth rig & it works great. This app is worth the money..Version: 1.1.2

5 star appAn excellent addition to my workflow. Easy to use and reliable..Version: 1.1.2

Nice executionI’m really liking the new custom scale feature even though it took me quite awhile to figure it out, but its very intuitive to me now that I did. The scale page management is too primitive at the moment and needs some organization options..Version: 2.0

Absolutely Brilliant!Randomly generating melodies for inspiration is not cheating. Much in the same way that a landscape painter looking at the view they’re painting isn’t cheating. Riffer generates melodies magnificently, with so many variable settings to match the key, scale, tempo, vibe, etc, etc, of your track. Riffer won’t write your track for you, and you wouldn’t want it to, but it will help inspire you to write your track..Version: 3.0

Works with iRig Midi 2I use this to generate midi notes for synths in my Akai Force. Connected using iRig 2 Midi and works perfect. The app is awesome, much to learn and there are good YouTube tutorials. Overall easy to use and I was playing my synths and making tunes right away..Version: 3.0

Fantastic appLove this app, be great if there was a way to choose how many notes per step for doing Rhythm too. Some Synth App’s are not recognized by it tho like the fantastic Alchemy Synth in Apple’s Garageband as well as it’s other instruments. Thankfully the ones I use most are. I look forward to the future of this app. Yeah I’ve done a few video’s on Youtube already on my channel Mad Mohawk Films :) One TRICK I’ve used for Rhythm is to use hardware Synth’s that can detune oscillators to simulate chords. On Youtube I demo this with my Modal CraftSynth 2 and it’s 8 oscillators by using the “Spread” Knob. Such a fun app to get the creative juices going. Please have a peek at the Directional settings that the Pioneer Toraiz Squid has for inspiration, I’ve got one and it’s magical :).Version: 2.0

Solid no cost update!Very well played with these new features - game changer!.Version: 3.0

AudioBus....Can not control another iOS synth...I can not for the life of me get this to control anything with AudioBus 3. Some clues on the developer’s site would be useful. It seems like it might be really useful, but I can’t do anything with it. Please fix this if it’s a bug. The Audiomodern website has no support pages for this app that I am able to find which make it very frustrating. I can’t find a manual either.... so no clues to go on there either.... HELP... it’s an interesting looking app but with no visible place to get support other than a form to fill out on the website.....Version: 1.1.2

WinnerPure inspiration, modular inspired and sooo melodic. Essential for musicians that are looking for a good foundation of notes to get writing. 10/10 sparks random joy..Version: 3.1.4

Very cool appReally adds something special to your audio tracks. Lots of options and the infinite mode is great..Version: 3.1.1

Worked great till...I went to use this app today in GarageBand and it kept crashing the GarageBand app. help..Version: 1.1.2

Welcome to the partyThis is a really good app. I am using it for electronic/ techno type music and is truly doing the business. I prefer to spend more time on sculpting the sounds and using effects as opposed to finding the actual note arrangement- so this fits in perfectly. It is straightforward to use and comes with a manual should you need it. It is well designed and laid out for easy access. It is uncluttered yet contains some highly creative features The developers are responsive to communication and are also currently active on the Audiobus Forum. There are future developments promised though I’m very happy with it the way it is..Version: 1.0.3

Excellent! The best Balance of custom and generative. Recommended!I have several apps that randomly generate notes for you, but it’s always hit and miss with regard to useable composition. With Riffer, it generates excellent sequences nearly every time. And, another thing that sets it apart is that the sequences are editable and you can draw in notes manually. You can lock down specific characteristics to keep, while randomly generating others. You can even set it to infinitely generative sequences and pick what you like from it. And then export a midi file. It’s also completely useable on a small iPhone SE screen, though the controls are a bit small. Highly recommended!.Version: 1.1.2

Great app for RiffsThe app does a good job of generating riff sequences for you which you can also modify. Several of these as AU instances is very effective for writing songs. Lots of scales to choose from..Version: 1.1.1

My favorite app just got betterThe 3.0 update has taken Riffer to a whole new level. The density function adds so many more rhythmic possibilities. Having 4 Riffer instances in one with tuning, velocity, duration, and density capable of being randomized independently or all together gives me an amazing amount of control over just how random everything gets. I already use this app on nearly every single thing I create. I cannot recommend Riffer enough!.Version: 3.0

Nice tool with a few teething issuesThis App does exactly what it says it will do. It’s simple to generate new musical ideas and route them using MIDI to the destination program of your choice. Sometimes when changing parameters what sounds like a chord will be played instead of the expected note. This is a bug that needs to be fixed. Another useful addition (or maybe it does this already but I haven’t figured it out yet) would be if the App could generate a few sounds of its own - this would be useful for quick demoing. Thanks for making this App!.Version: 1.0.1

Awesome!I already have the desktop version and re-purchased this for my iPad. Great work!.Version: 1.1.2

Chord Change with midi keyboardI would like to see Chord Change with midi keyboard option.Great app.Version: 2.0

Excellet for quickly getting an idea goingGreat to feed my many synth apps. Please add midi export so i easily pick up with my sequence on my computer, or to build larger patterns..Version: 2.4

Easy on the ear, hard on the eyesRiffer when tweaked in the right way can produce some useful results. There is a weeding of the chaff from the wheat process, but that it be expected with generative stuff. The main problem is that this developer has the eyes of an eagle, and seems to think everyone else does too. The controls are ridiculously small and fiddly to use. So a redesign to something a little more chunky would be marvellous..Version: 3.1.4

It is great at what it is intended for.Gives you all the utilities necessary to conjure up some quick notes within a key. It’s great that you can guide it to be more or less dense. Have infinite regeneration, have a lot of options for the ‘spread’ of notes and a few other things. If I have a pattern I already like (this is monophonic btw) I can easily edit notes to get it to taste and it has quick access to transposing by octave. When I first used this I was a bit aggravated by its messy behavior when trying to adjust parameters while it is in playback. But for the most part this is just a result of me ‘using it wrong’. When used with a little forethought and purpose it is a great utility to have in hand, fun in fact..Version: 1.1.2

Great app that generates usable riffsDoes what it says on the tin, great app, producing very musical results..Version: 1.1.2

The Dog’s Bullocks!A great tool to find a creative spark. I use it in every project. I use this on both iPad and iPhone. AUM is the host. The small UI is my only complaint (especially on iPhone). The font size is too small for my old eyes. -1 ⭐️ The font/icon sizes need to be bigger. Or you could make long pressing an area give a zoomed view..Version: 3.1.4

Loving the update so far.Still lots to explore but this update is a game changer for Riffer, it is far better than it used to be. I have found a bug however which is pretty annoying, when the note grid is limited to two notes ( c2 and c#2 in my case), randomizing riffer causes a bug and crashes the plugin, it won’t die but it stops working and reacting to UI changes. It also raises the DSP on both apematrix and AUM from 0 to 99%..Version: 3.0

Great App!Very efficient on creating riffs and midi patterns 👌.Version: 1.1.2

Any Teething Problems Were Fixed Fast Long AgoVery stable. Been using Riffer since the day it was released. Runs all night and then some without issue. If there is a problem some other app always crashes first. Super easy to use. That counts for a lot when it is late and you just want to get some ambient sounds up and running fast. The randomizer seems fine to me. All the controls seemed to respond to MIDI signals as I recall on the rare occasions I get that motivated. It sounds like some folks need to understand iOS app developers don't have every variation of iPad or iPhone ever made, but, if they'd wait a few days or a couple of minor updates they will find whatever issues they are having will be addressed. At least that has consistently been my experience with music apps. Riffer is the much improved successor to an app, the name of which I can't even remember, but that just proves my point about music app Developers. They, in general, pretty consistently strive to improve their apps. Of course, they really are under no great obligation to keep up with major hardware advances, but, they do for the most part..Version: 2.2

So good...but.Let me start with the good points. This would be a 5 star app, all day long. I purchased the bundle, that also included Playbeat, and have to say although I had reservations whether I needed both of them, it soon proved a great buy. Creative wise, I cannot fault either app. Both are easy to use, and they’re great for starting an idea and fleshing out some sounds, that I then bounce down to use as samples. All of that being said, the problem for me...I can hardly see what I’m doing on both apps, as I’m using an 8 plus iPhone, and well...to say that parts of the gui are small, is an understatement. Now I appreciate most may use these apps on iPad, but to have such difficulty using them on a smaller screen, is an itonic point, I never forseen! I just feel that maybe the apps could have been designed with a scrolling split option, for the iPhone, so not to make it so problematic to navigate around the apps. I totally understand this may be a slight disadvantage for workflow use, but currently using both of these apps is a drag on that anyway, due to not being able to clearly see what I’m doing. EDIT: After writing this original review, I decided to contact Audio Modern, the developer, regarding my issues with the app. I have to say their response was almost instant, and they were so great and also very understanding of my concerns. They went above and beyond assisting me, and have promised to look into and hopefully find a fix for the problems I pointed out with my interaction with the app. So until the app is fixed, I can only offer the 4 stars. However, for customer service, it’s a definite 5!.Version: 3.0

Just missing a couple of featuresFor five stars, this app needs the following: A few tweaks to the UI, because some of the text is a little hard to see and parameters a little difficult to change quickly. The parameters are not open in AUM, so you can’t have more than one instance and use CCs to change the root note or any other parameter. Other than that, it’s a great app now that it’s AU.Version: 2.0

Cool but needs AUv3 MIDI FX optionThis is a cool app but it appears as an AUv3 Synth app. There are many of us who need this as an AUv3 MIDI FX app instead. It would be nice to have an option, or at least two versions instead. I currently can’t use it as a Synth app in my DAW..Version: 1.1.2

MarvelousThis app was in my top 3 new apps for 2018 and that's saying a lot given all the great apps that arrived in 2018. In short, this is my go to riff generator and I use it all the time for inspiration and more. The difference with this one is that the results are more musical than most of the other generative apps out there. Well done!.Version: 1.1.2

Really nice ideaMostly well executed but actually connecting it to another midi app is something of an ordeal. As noted by another reviewer, the controls when trying to set up the midi link are very small, and I’ve only found one other app that it’s able to control. When these issues are sorted though, I imagine I’ll use this quite a lot..Version: 1.0.1
