Toyota+Alexa for Negative User Reviews

Does not work....at least for meI was really excited to see that my 2019 RAV4 had Alexa but disappointed that it doesn’t work properly. I have everything turned on and followed the instructions to a tee but all it does is sit there after I ask something. I read the other reviews I feel that getting it to work by reloading each time is not very convenient and a little ridiculous. Toyota needs to fix this..Version: 1.0.2

It doesn’t work 😡This app has really bad connectivities issues with the car. It worked fine when I installed it never ever again! The car cannot detect the App and the feature is grayed out. Horrible experience! The fact that it has a 2 star rating and Toyota doesn’t do anything about it is mind blowing. Toyota has great cars, but this App is a shame. Maybe Toyota should give up on the Alexa feature and remove it from the marketing and sales material to avoid more of this bad customer experience..Version: 1.1.15

Bad connectionThis app has given me trouble since I got my 2020 tundra limited. Poor connection. Once I am able to get the app working and connected it will randomly disconnect. Then I’ll have to close down the app and restart it. This happens daily. So often I’ll avoid using it when I can. Worst vehicle app I have ever used. Toyota please fix this..Version: 1.0.13

Doesn’t workI have a 2019 Toyota Sienna. My van literally advertised that I should download and use this app. I was so excited. Well, after spending multiple hours trying to connect to my van it just wouldn’t connect. I still want to try again but as of now this app gets a big fat 1 star because it’s not user friendly..Version: 1.0.9

Way too much hassleI would rather the app not exist than have it exist in this unusable premature state it’s in now. Or call it what it is, a beta (or Alpha!). I have to open and connect all the apps every time I get into my car. Doesn’t connect when my phone is plugged in. to me, the app is false advertising and completely worthless until they can get it to connect automatically without manual intervention every time I turn on my car. This app degrades my opinion of Toyota and Amazon/Alexa. Neither company should have allowed this to market in the current state..Version: 1.1.15

Clearly no communication between developersEvery other function and app you use with your Toyota vehicle requires you to have a hardwired connection. This one asks you to Bluetooth. That alone makes this app worthless. Haven’t even gotten to the bugs everyone else talks about.Version: 1.1.15

Huge Let DownThe only, and I mean the only, thing that has disappointed me about my Toyota purchase has been the crappy Entune system. I was able to connect with Alexa for about 30 minutes (hence the second star) then, gone, never to return. It is inexcusable to have such a fine vehicle paired (pun intended) with such a lackluster app. Who ever is responsible for this needs to be sacked now..Version: 1.0.5

Poorly Integrated ApplicationToyota has several apps that conflict with Apple Play. Sometimes Alexa works but trying to get the Apple Maps and Alexa songs is impossible. Pay attention to the road instead of this application. Someone is going to get hurt trying to make this work correctly..Version: 1.1.15

So frustrating!!This app will only work if you log out and back in. The worst part is your password doesn’t store so you have to enter it every time. Then if you get a call, you have to log out and back in again. It’s ridiculous that Toyota doesn’t figure out a way to get this to work. I’m so unimpressed!.Version: 1.0.2

Terrible experienceDoesn’t deserve even one star. Installed it four times and spent well over one hour in total without getting any luck with staring the app properly. Complete waste of time and will never ever use it or try to use it again..Version: 1.1.15

2019 Camry Apple CompatibilityThe fact that this app isn’t compatible with the 2019 Camry (upgraded head unit) is absolutely ridiculous. It’s despicable that Toyota can’t prioritize a compatibility software update for a model year that’s over a year old. Toyota devs, doesn’t it bother you that all of your apps are so poorly rated when it’s within your power to make it right? When will this be corrected?.Version: 1.0.2

Not HappyCan not believe you would not have this for the 2019 Toyota Sienna. And why on earth is remote start not a standard on these vehicles??? So upset that mine does not have it. Of salesman would have told me it was an option I would have made sure he ordered it to have it. Was not happy at all when I found out my van was missing remote start and Alexa.Version: 1.0.2

App was functioning in my 2020 corolla and became uselessToyota-alexa app was working fine until some “genius” app tech decided to shut down entune 3.0 for a toyota app that is incompatible with 2021 or older car models. They shut down the alexa-toyota and entune 3.0 app for vehicle models that were working fine. Toyota, you are selling a multimedia system that is a lie because after you sell the units, you discharge their functionality. Zero rate for this useless app..Version: 1.1.15

Not working appI have a 2021 toyota rav4 and I've been trying to connect this app to the car for two years and it doesn't work, it's the last time I tried it, thinking that maybe they had improved the app but it's the same situation that says it doesn't connect with the microphone but in configuration everything is connected. So they should put a lot of effort for the application..Version: 1.1.15

MicrophoneApp says I need to enable microphone to use. It points you back to the settings. No option to enable microphone. Pretty garbage considering you advertise a feature on a product that costs over 40k and it just is false. Take it out of the advertising if you aren’t committed to resolving issues..Version: 1.0.13

Doesn’t workJust tried to connect to a one-day-old 2021 Rav4 Prime. Bluetooth connected just fine, and CarPlay works via cable, but I couldn’t get this Alexa app to work whether cable tethered or not. Waste of time. Toyota should eliminate their apps entirely rather than wasting out time with bad apps. I love the new Rav4 though 👍❤️❤️❤️ Update: After more screwing around I finally got it installed and connected but no change to my one-star review. The connection is inconsistent, the mic is intermittent/unstable, the app only works when the cable is unplugged (killing CarPlay)... so still a bad app, waste of time..Version: 1.0.9

DisappointedI’m not sure exactly where the issue lies; the app, the connection between the app and my car or the Alexa app built into the car but all I can say is that it’s very disappointing how poorly this app/feature works. I can usually get it to play a couple songs before it stops working and I can’t get it to work again..Version: 1.0.13

It’s uselessInstalled, uninstalled, followed directions. My 2019 Avalon tells me I need to connect to Bluetooth, but I am already. It tells me I need to download the app. I did. I click the T-A app on my car. It tells me it can’t detect T-A and to be sure it’s installed in my phone. I’m done with it. It’s ridiculous..Version: 1.0.12

A hot messHere’s the real test....so many people have written comments of complaint and scored it as unacceptably low...will Toyota take these comments to heart..send them to the tech area and develop a comprehensive fix and issue a corrective update OR now that they’ve gotten our money take a too bad/so sad approach? A regretful 2020 Corolla hatchback owner who also is not getting nearly the gas mileage shown on the window sticker..Version: 1.0.5

Have to launch app every timeAlexa actually works in my 2020 Tacoma but only if I remember to take my phone out of my pocket every time I get in the car, launch the app, and make sure Entune is running. This is 2020! The app could easily run in the background and start itself when the phone detects the Toyota Bluetooth connection. If I have to take my phone out of my pocket, I might as well take the extra step and plug it in for carPlay! Basically making making Alexa useless— wireless function was the only advantage Alexa for Toyota has over carPlay, but it is basically worthless at this point. Toyota can and should do better!.Version: 1.0.5

Worked once- Update- Solution FoundI was actually really excited to use this and it worked well the first time. You could just use your phone but the idea of just using your voice without touching your phone would be more convenient. Sadly, Toyota is not fixing this. Hurry up and fix this or stop promoting it as an incentive. SOLUTION FOUND I figured out of to make this work. Obviously, first have a bluetooth connection. This will automatically connect the next time. Then open the red toyota app, NOT toyota+alexa app. In the red toyota app, press the down arrow and it should reveal the app suite button on the bottom left. It should say toyota+alexa app as downloaded. Click on that then on the bottom “launch toyota+alexa app”… this will trigger this app to open up and finallt you will see the app as an audio source in your dash/infotainment. In other words, you have to launch this non working app through the red toyota app to work. Otherwise you will just see a grey icon you can’t click..Version: 1.1.15

Waste of TimeThis was a hunk of software crap when it came out and still is? For the price paid for my Prius Prime, none of the software has worked as one would expect from Toyota. Certainly will look to other makes next time around ..Version: 1.1.15

Don't work at all won't connect to car.Have a 2019 Camry xse, had a Samsung note and this worked easy and never had a problem. Because my car only have car play because it's a 2019 I decided to just switch to iPhone. Literally the only reason. Now this don't work. Guess it don't matter but I always don't want to plug in for car play. I've tried everything...Disappointed to say the least..Version: 1.0.13

Needs more features.Correct me if I’m wrong, but as far as I can tell, it will only open maps on your phone rather then on the screen of the car. I don’t want to look at my phone, that defeats the purpose of buying a car with a screen. I’ll stick with using Apple car play until it’s updated. It’s also very limited in what apps will show up..Version: 1.0.2

Not Worth ItThis app is a piece of crap. I bought a 2021 Corolla a week ago. I been able to get Toyota +Alexa app to work one time in my driveway. Now it says make sure my Bluetooth is connected or the app is grayed out on my screen or the app just spins. The voice command to make calls or anything doesn’t really work either. I love the car but the voice command apps like Alexa is worthless.Version: 1.1.15

Toyota screwed up AlexaI am a Techie. Have Alexa ecosystem in my home since 5+ years. Never got the Toyota+Alexa App to get setup on my XSE 2019. Spent hours with Toyota Phone Support in Jan’23, but same result... Car is connected via Bluetooth but fails to detect the Alexa on the phone. Toyota asked to go to a dealership… which asked for a $180 diagnostics fee. Toyota wants me to pay this to dealership with no commitment of reimbursement, as dealers operate independently. During my trials… I must have reinstalled the apps, reset & updated car software more than 20-25 times. I eventually gave up & deleted these apps for good..Version: 1.1.15

Another problematic app from ToyotaJust like the main Toyota app this one is useless as well. Also, the worse Alexa execution in a any car brand. You have to open and close the app in order to make it work. It drops if you receive a call. Please Toyota work on your apps and make it useable like the other brands do..Version: 1.1.15

Don’t waste your time.I have a 2022 Toyota Tacoma. I down loaded the Toyota and Toyota-Alexa app. It worked for a couple of days and then Alexa froze. Now the Toyota-Alexa icon on the touch screen doesn’t light up even though the truck is connected to my phone’s Bluetooth and the Toyota-Alexa phone app says it’s connect..Version: 1.1.15

Doesn’t work very wellIt doesn’t work very well. It keeps dropping I get it set up and then it takes about a half an hour to get it to work it keeps dropping it was a fantastic idea but it’s a dangerous app it says don’t use it while you’re driving well it keeps dropping so you’ll have to try to get back on so you pull off the road almost get hit trying to get it back on. It needs a lot of work it’s a great idea but please get it to work right ..Version: 1.0.9

DO NOT INSTALL ON 2019 TUNDRAI was excited to see an update on my Tundra’s header. And excited to see it was an Alexa update. After correctly attempting to set this up 5+ times — all it has done is made it to where I can no longer use my iPhone to listen to music in my pickup. I’d consider myself very tech savvy and have the Cisco certifications to prove it. So it’s not a user error. Toyota simply rushed an update which causes users to actually lose features. Really wish I could downgrade. Besides — most 2019 Tundra owners didn’t even want this update on the Tundra forums. We just want Apple CarPlay support..Version: 1.0.5

Never WorkedEver since I purchased my 2019 Toyota Camry SE, I have had difficulty with Toyota Apps and connected services within my car. The Toyota+Alexa app never worked, even though I’ve tried sitting down for over an hour a couple times now to get it connected. I’ve tried everything including disconnecting a State Farm Bluetooth Beacon completely (which shouldn’t interfere as all other Bluetooth connections work for Toyota). Nothing works. I always end up with the same result - “Not Detected.” I have tried almost every FAQ page, Toyota Owners, anything and I just go in circles. This APP needs major correction.Version: 1.0.9

It works ... infrequentlyI bought a brand new, fully loaded RAV4 Limited, and I was initially excited that I could use Alexa in my vehicle. I am still waiting for my license plates, and I have already given up on the Toyota+Alexa app. It is rare that I am able to use Alexa- usually when I announce her name, nothing happens. When she does respond with “listening...” she does not hear my command. Sometimes...unfortunately infrequently, it works. But so rarely that I have given up on it. For such a quiet hybrid car, you would think Alexa would be a welcome addition - but the frustration is too much. I no longer even try..Version: 1.0.2

Frustrating 😡If they ever get this app to connect without having to restart it every time you start the car it will be great. For now it’s very very frustrating. I love Alexa and so go through the process almost every time I drive but annoyed I am 😡.Version: 1.0.2

Doesn’t work without Entune 3.0Entune isn’t supported and has vanished off App Store. Newest update says this is compatible with the Toyota App but so far that’s a big negative. Hasn’t worked in my 2020 Highlander Limited since Entune disappeared. I’ve deleted this app and reinstalled. Verified my Toyota app was up to date. Car keeps trying to download Entune. Very sad and frustrating. I used hands free Alexa every day. Can use Alexa in car play but it’s not hands free..Version: 1.0.7

It doesn’t workI’ve tried everything I can think of to make this stupid app connect to my Toyota. (Yes, the Bluetooth is already paired with the car.) it just won’t work. When I bought the car I was promised that Toyota would be upgrading it to Apple Play. Well, that was a lie and I’m stuck with their crap Entune and now this crap app that doesn’t work..Version: 1.0.14

Version 2.0 not connecting to Toyota + Alexa appThis version does not initialize on my iPhone 12 when connected to my 2021 Avalon Hybrid. It worked fine before the update. I've tried reinstalling both apps and reestablishing the Bluetooth connection. I know it must be a setting I'm missing..Version: 1.1.15

Needing to open the app.I don’t understand why each time I want to use Alexa Toyota app that I need to open the app each time I disconnect from the car. It also seems when you switch to a different app while never disconnecting from Bluetooth you have to reopen the app to reconnect. This is a hassle if you are on long trips and are still driving..Version: 1.0.9

CrapI can’t even get this out of my car dash…won’t connect, won’t delete and it’s ruined my ability to use any other feature. Can’t skip songs or even see what is playing anymore. Wish I had never downloaded. Awful everything..Version: 1.1.15

I don’t get what it’s suppose to doTitle says it all I downloaded and connected my phone to my car but app is stuck on connect my phone all I can say is I’ll never buy another Toyota I love my 2020 Camry except when it comes to Bluetooth or hands free car is completely useless. However being that the dealer I bought it from nor Toyota can tell me anything about how to make any of the features I paid for work it’s a useless product and one of three apps your car asks you to download for all of your features to work. Personally I think they should take the vehicles back unless we can have working features without the need to download tons of non working apps. Honestly it’s borderline fraud being we were sold the cars claiming hands free..Version: 1.0.7

UnreliableI have a 2020 RAV4 hybrid and as with other reviewers, the app will not maintain its access to the microphone (as required to use the app). The purpose of the app is defeated when I need to pull off to the road to close/reopen the app and toggle mic permission off/on until something works. Please, please fix. Update: Does anyone read these reviews to inform improvements to the app?.Version: 1.0.2

No longer worksAfter one of the last updates Alexa no longer works. I used to just launch the app and now in order to get it to work I also have to go in to the Toyota app swipe down to get to connected apps and open that. There is nothing on that screen but it puts the app in my Toyota apps window. Try doing that every time you get in to your vehicle..Version: 1.1.15

Connect to AlexaWe have a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid and connecting is frustrating. Sometimes it works sometimes not. We had to replace our other car and purchased a 2019 used Nissan Rogue. As soon as you get in the Rouge it connects immediately!!! So disappointed with Toyota Alexa. I love my Camry otherwise. We have owned Honda and switched to a Toyota family years ago. But it’s $ had us go to Nissan..Version: 1.0.5

Works 2% of the timeJust bought a 2020 Tacoma and this app has only worked about 2% of the time. When I ask Alexa something it just says “thinking” 🤷🏼‍♂️. Like the other review states, sometimes when I reload the apps it’ll work but most of the time it doesn’t. Pretty ironic how much I have to mess with my phone to get this hands free app to work..Version: 1.0.2

Doesn’t workIt was installed on my 2018 Camry and worked fine a few times and stopped working. Entune doesn't work well, however, I can use my phone to make calls through my speaker system and that's all it does. I can't even get my navigation system to work. All apps are grayed out. Useless system..Version: 1.0.9

Horrible appHad trouble connecting. Finally found instructions that actually work in an app review. That review was also 1 star. Once it finally connected it kept telling me that everything I wanted to do was not supported. Maybe Toyota should try working with Google instead of Alexa..Version: 1.1.15

Needs updating2020 Tacoma. Got the app connected but couldn’t really get it to work. Granted the app doesn’t state it is compatible with the Tacoma. This is actually not why I am rating it low. At least with the new infotainment system, if I had the app installed and not even running, my phone connected via Bluetooth tooth wouldn’t pause the music after 30 seconds or so. I would have to go in and restart the music. If I delete the app, problem goes away. Install again, problem recurs. This type of bug ticks me off so I will not be reinstalling this app. Super annoying. Easy enough to work around but lame bug none the less. Maybe I need to wait and see if it gets updated for Tacoma. The Tacoma says it is compatible but the app itself doesn’t..Version: 1.0.2

Horrible Customer ServiceReceived email today from Toyota saying how great Alexa is with my car. 4 hours later and still not working. 3 calls to corporate customer service. 1st minimal software knowledge. Second said my model didn’t support it. Third said dealer didn’t install required software. Dealer says they did. Round and round.Version: 1.0.2
