Root Board Game for Positive User Reviews

Appreciate the efforts but buggyArmorers was buggy for me and depending on the battle order I should be able to choose to use armorers on the second or third attack against me if the first battle was not an optimal time to use it. Happened to me as WA and would not let me use armorers after the first attack was against a sympathy token. Also had WA setup with an insufficient amount of supporters at beginning of game that required restarting..Version: 1.23.2

Great way to learn to really playHaving played a few games on the tabletop, I found this app to be very helpful in learning each faction. I really like the tutorials and the challenges. Asynchronous play has allowed me to play with my friends over a week while we go throughout. It shows you everyone’s moves so you don’t miss anything. We’ll done!.Version: 1.29.7

Review for root’s digital board game.I am here to tell you of how good this game is with pros and cons. Pros: Menu is well made, I found no bugs or glitches from my experience, Great port for any apple user, Just a fun to play board game, No pay to win schemes, Graphics and attention to detail is very good, When on the board everything is so immersive, Also updates are vast and amazing so remember that, Now to cons of this game. Cons: Ai does some quirky things yet not common it is something to know, If you don’t like complex rules this may not be your cup of tea, Fights are randomized by dice so strategy during fights is not there I only say this just to keep you informed yet strategically doing things is a big part of the game so take this with a big grain of salt, So that is the review cons are rare so I say 4 stars is deserved some things could be fixed but overall 4/5 stars also thanks to the developers for such a great game good job 👍.Version: 1.29.5

Complicated game, well made, not for young kidsThis game gets five stars for how well it’s made, how great it looks. I never played the board game but the description of this looked so interesting to me I pre-ordered. The 9+ age rating is too low I believe. I don’t know any 9 year old that would make it through the tutorial without being bored or even understanding and remembering all of the rules. I would say 15+ is more appropriate. I made it through the third tutorial and just lost interest. And that took an hour! I don’t have the kind of time or attention span for this. I believe there may have been an opportunity to create a simpler version of this game for mobile. I’m not bummed I spent the money. It’s well deserved and I’m glad I didn’t invest in the board game lol..Version: 1.23.2

5 starsI bought the board game version after hearing about it from a friend, but I never had enough people to play it with. When I found this I immediately got it. I have been playing it for a while now and it is super fun. If you enjoy the board game or just want something fun to play, this game is a must have. The animations and music are awesome, and the tutorials are great for new players, especially if you just got a new expansion and don’t know how to play it..Version: 1.30.4

Fantastic version of a fantastic gameThis is an amazing adaption of the root board game and gives a lot more options of online and local play than most similar apps. The challenges also give some fun alternate rules to keep it fresh. It’s even better now that the winter map and clockwork expansion has been added and I look forward to the future expansions (especially underworlds)!.Version: 1.26.2

Asynchronous games are better on mobileI loved when root came to steam, and loved it even more when I saw it supported asynchronous gameplay. Steam notifications aren’t really good though, so I would never know when it was my turn. Notifications on this app are really great and gameplay fine on a phone screen, though a little small for my taste. Would strongly recommend for phone users who like the board game, or want to try it out. It’s an absolute must for iPad users who want to play root..Version: 1.23.2

I already love this game, now I can’t stop playing it.I love the game of Root. I would always try to convince people to play it. The strategy, the design, and the replay value are all so good. When I found the digital version I immediately downloaded it. And I can’t stop playing it. I have been telling people left and right about it. The downside is a lot of people around me don’t own iPads. But that is okay because even playing online and the computer has been great. I’m assuming, and looking forward to, the expansions will become available over time. I will happily buy them when they release. Thank you so much!.Version: 1.24.2

BrilliantThe best digital board game there is! Root is now one of my all time favourite games, I hadn’t even played it before buying the digital edition! This is a masterful recreation of the game. The tutorials make the game a joy to learn and the challenges are a great way to build on that understanding. The digital edition makes this game so much more approachable and easy to pick up and play. Playing the AI is surprisingly enjoyable. And it has the option for pass and play! It also supports online cross play! I own this on multiple platforms and the DLC and progress is shared across them. I love the Riverfolk expansion and can’t wait for more to be added. The art, animation, and soundtrack are all fantastic! I have probably played near 100 hours offline and not experienced any issues so the bug fixes are working. Although I haven’t played online yet so can’t speak about that. Thank you Direwolf Digital and Leder Games ❤️.Version: 1.28.0

Best App Strategy BoardgameCompared with other app based board games this really is, without a doubt, the best you will find. The developers looked like they genuinely wanted to make a brilliant version of the real board game, and they succeeded. The AI makes smart moves and is competitive. The tutorials are fantastic at teaching the different as pets of the extremely differently play styles of each faction. Music is atmospheric, artwork and a inaction is gorgeous, the game is a delight to play. Hours happily slip past when trying to conquer the wooden realm..Version: 1.28.1

Smooth Platform, Wonderful GameI’ve been playing ROOT for years and this digital adaptation is spot on with both rules, gameplay and excitement. Soundtrack is one of my favourites too. The AI isn’t the best but Clockwork Opponents are a real challenge and the Pass and Play is great for when my girlfriend and I when we travel. 10/10 thanks for this Dire Wolf!.Version: 1.31.1

Great game, but with some bugsI absolutely love this game and hope expansions are released with more maps and more factions, BUT I would not invest in it until the bugs are fixed. The game “locks up” or “gets stuck” quite a lot. Usually, this seems to happen when AI initiates a battle. The “scuffle cloud” animation will pop up and just... never goes away. Sometimes I can Save & Quit, them resume the game and it will get past it. Sometimes it will keep getting stuck at the same spot and I just have to forfeit and start over. The other thing that happens (less frequently) is that it will be a human player’s turn and the game just won’t let them take any actions (including “end turn/next/etc”) I have had to quit and restart 3 games IN A ROW due to a combination of the above. All games have the following parameters: Player 1 human Marquise Player 2 human Vagabond Ranger Players 3&4 AI Eyrie and Alliance Battle animations OFF So far I have played through maybe a dozen challenges and I don’t recall this ever happening during those games. I have never played online yet. Most of my games are local pass and play in case this helps. Thanks.Version: 1.24.2

Fantastic implementation... with no Undo button! This is an enjoyable and beautiful adaptation of a great tabletop game. In addition to normal play against varying degrees of AI difficulty, there are a ton of interesting Challenges which shake up the game. The AI makes some questionable decisions at times, but I would still highly recommend this game.... with one caveat... There is no undo button! This is an absolute prerequisite for digital board game apps, especially games with as many moving parts as Root. I have to imagine this is in the works, and I will gladly up my rating to 5 stars once the undo button is added, but frankly, no board game app should be published without one..Version: 1.24.2

My favourite gameI have been playing this nonstop for six months. Online game is a great mix of strategy, diplomacy and luck - not always in that order. Can’t wait for the underground expansion!.Version: 1.28.0

With the latest expansion, Dire Wolf has gone above and beyondFirst you have the animations, the sound effects, the music… the original creator of the board game made it a point of pride that such a cute, wholesome looking game could be an actually cutthroat war game underneath. Dire Wolf have taken that concept to the next level with their adaptation. The words “this game is deceptively deep” are used a lot in app reviews, but Root is the pinnacle of that statement. Now they’ve added a completely new way to set up the “armies” (first implemented in the board game version) and suddenly the game has all new life breathed into it. Just incredible. Bravo to this developer, you can tell someone (or many someones) at Dire Wolf are true fans of the original game..Version: 1.30.3

One of the best board game apps I’ve seenOf course Root is a great game - that needn’t be said here. This app itself is phenomenal. The tutorials are a wonderful way to learn the game and new factions; they very clearly walk you through in a setting with limited variables, and the challenges are a super fun way to test your understanding of the mechanics and strategy. I recommend it to new players all the time. Not only is the interface intuitive and the tutorial comprehensive, but it comes with INCREDIBLE ANIMATIONS AND CUSTOM MUSIC! The app holds all of the charm of the original game’s art, and then some. Some folks have commented on the speed issue, and I agree a “skip” button might be nice for the animations, but ultimately I don’t mind it all that much because they’re just so dang well done. Thank you for this beautiful port!.Version: 1.31.1

Love it! BUT...So this is an amazing port of an awesome board game, but I did take a few issues with it that forced me to give it 4 stars. First, and most importantly, the AI. I played a game as the Eyrie with all 4 factions in play. The marquise had a huge lead over all factions (they had about 22 veeps while everyone else was at 7-10 veeps) and the woodland alliance AI was hellbent on taking me out lol. Now I own the real boardgame and play often, when someone has a lead that strong, they are going to win unless other factions shift their focus to them for at least a turn or two. So the woodland Alliance AI going after me at a time like that felt like they were throwing the game, enabling the marquise to take an easy victory. Felt like playing against someone who didn’t know how to play the game, a n00b if you will. Also, I have an iPhone X, it’s pretty powerful. Yet the game does experience some hefty lag here and there. I know it just came out and I’m sure it will be optimized more. The Raiders app runs very smoothly and I feel that one is just as beefy. Either way, I love your work dire wolf. Unlike other board game apps, I know when your logo is on something, that I can safely purchase knowing it will be a quality product. Keep it up!.Version: 1.23.2

Good for reps but too much waitingI love Root and the app does a good job of having a mobile experience to get games in. There’s too much time spent waiting and watching replays. Every time a multiplayer game loads you are forced to watch every action since the end of your last turn, which isn’t really an issue aside from every time the game needs a reaction when you’re not the active player you have to watch the replay from the end of your turn every single time, even if you had watched it before. It would be nice if there was an option to save where you saw the last action in-game, or even better if the game just remembered that automatically. It would also be nice if we could ask the app to remember that we’ve seen the opening cinematic and to not show it on subsequently loading the app. Gameplay wise, if someone buys a card from the otters or draws a card back from the discard pile, that should be shown to players as it’s public knowledge in the physical game..Version: 1.31.1

Almost thereThe perfect way to play root, if you can’t do it in person. My partner and I have been long distance due to lockdowns for the past few months, and this has been such a lovely way to pass the time. The app is not perfect, but if you submit your feedback the staff is very friendly..Version: 1.24.1

Fantastic game!Well made and utterly charming. Only issue is zooming in and out on Macbook M1 track pad is sluggish and could be much improved (obviously not an issue on iPad, hence 5 stars.) Any chance it could be improved?.Version: 1.27.5

The benchmark for tabletop adaptationsA truly superb adaptation of a wonderful board game. The asynchronous play mode in particular is something that many developers should learn from. We routinely have games running with our gaming group based in Europe, North America and South-East Asia and it works flawlessly. The implementation of the gameplay is also excellent to the extent that, when teaching the physical board game, I recommend new players download and run the tutorials on the app first. I play many tabletop adaptations and it is no exaggeration to say this is the most impressive one I have seen by some distance. Hats off to the development team..Version: 1.30.6

One of the best board game adaptions of a great board gameRoot is in general an amazingly cute, creative, and fun board game. This app is an incredible version of the game, with intuitive tutorials for teaching how to play (my 8 and 10 year old kids were able to learn the game well from them), fun challenges unique to the app, and just challenging enough AI. I recommend this board game to every one - its one of the best board game apps out there!.Version: 1.30.6

One GB??A 1GB board game. Seriously??.Version: 1.29.6

Really Excellent Mobile RenditionHaving played Root physically once before, but not usually having 4 people at home, I wanted to try the mobile app for online and local play. I’ve found the AI surprisingly excellent to play against, and this is the most positive mobile/digital experience I’ve had playing a game. It teaches the rules in a very streamlined way, and games are fantastic fun! Only thing else I could wish for was access to the rule book - to the details like defenseless/combat resolution - since that’s all automated. Great work, keep it up! I can’t wait for Everdell!.Version: 1.28.1

Faithful Adaptation of a Great GameI loved the board game version of this and the digital version is a purfect recreation of the core game using the updated and revised rules and boards as published in the root update kit. No lags, no crashes as of yet and it seems to work perfectly after playing at least a few games with each of the core 4 factions. Which is also the problem.. as other reviewers have said, river and mountain folk expansions are NOT here... yet, and they turn this great game into a truly amazing one; my favourite factions being the Underground Duchy and the Riverfolk Company. Personally I can’t wait to see these in a future update and I really hope they make it into this digital edition along with the winter, lake and mountain boards, and the updated card deck, which adds more variety and depth to the game. The good side is this initial offering is a great start! and you can finally beef up the number of players to have decent four player games with AI that isn’t a mindless automotom; like the clockwork cats... See you in the woodlands my friends....Version: 1.24.2

I Adore This GameWhat a deep, adorable, and endlessly iterative game to have in my pocket 🥰 I love the charming design and solid implementation of this fantastic board game. I’ve played hundred of hours of this game between the PC and iPhone versions, and have joined a great discord community (shout-out Woodland Warriors) with lots of experienced and kind people to play with. That said, it would be amazing to get more support from DireWolf with the game’s online. While it’s certainly functional, there is a big problem with players leaving in the middle of games without consequence, and a no ability to report other players. If you’re playing with folks you know (or through Woodland Warriors) this isn’t an issue, but be wary if you’re looking for games solo. That, and it would be *huge* to have more control of some more rule set elements when making a game. Being able to ban factions while making an adset game, and adding the popular Despot Infamy home rule as an option would be my two top picks that would put the digital experience over the top! Hoping to see Marauders sooner than later, but that DireWolf takes the time they need! I’d love to see this version properly replace TableTop Simulator as the standard for non-physical play. Can’t wait to play this game for years to come!.Version: 1.31.1

Almost Perfect! What a wonderful table top game brought to life on the IOS! The clever animations are perfect and the tutorial play is so well executed to learn each of these different factions with ease. I had never played Root as an avid table top gamer and after reading some reviews, gave this a shot to learn the game. Highly recommended!! Developers: Thank you! However, PLEASE provide some more settings to adjust in the single play mode. After beating all the challenges, this mode is what keeps us nerds coming back for more. The biggest “must have” IMO, is being able to change game length (scoring). Thanks again for or such a quality product, recommending to friends and love supporting a $10 game that reflects this attention to detail..Version: 1.28.1

ROOT is a great game, despite its recent 3.3 scoreSeriously not trying to over-sell this, but this may be the one of the greatest board/digital games in history. I suspect some reviewers were confounded by the difficulty and complexity of this amazing game and/or they lacked the ability to comprehend its value, deciding (however cowardly) to give it false negative reviews. For shame. give it time, read the rules and do your best and you can become great at this game. you win some and lose some but it should always be fun..Version: 1.31.1

What a amazing gameSo glad someone made it into this app as I can’t really play it with friends becouse it’s very hard to learn, it’s perfect when I travel time just flying.Version: 1.29.7

Very well done!Amazing mobile version. Love the details and the animations!.Version: 1.27.0

DEVS READ PLEASEId like to start off by saying I love Root and am glad to see the expansion here, love the hard work and addition. But at the current state of multiplayer, the UI and lobby mechanics are heavily behind. Id suggest downloading a copy of “Through the Ages” on the app store. Some quick to list additions that would greatly improve quality of life: - Turn Timers, reserve time, adjustable when creating a game, - lobby titles, for example (new players only) Or (experienced fast play only) - In lobby chatting - The ability to change apps on the phone without the game disconnecting These are just a few that instantly came to thought when creating a lobby. Please take this into consideration as this would help a lot of new comers..Version: 1.30.2

Wonderful Port - Just One Request! So pleased to be able to play this with friends. The tutorials are thoroughly well done, the soundtrack adds a lot to the experience, and I appreciate the undo button. However, please please please add in some way to speed up animations with the press of a finger or be able to skip them entirely. Alternately, let me skip rewatching the same moves I just watched before briefly switching out of the app to wait for my friend to go. When I come back to the app, I only need to see my friend play if they are right before me, not the AI’s moves which I’ve already seen. For anyone on the fence, this is otherwise a great experience though! Definitely recommended!.Version: 1.30.4

Great Board Game Adaptation!Board games are so much fun, but it can be challenging to get a group of friends together to play. Root digital makes it easy to play the beloved board game. The interface is great. Takes a small moment to figure out, but once you do it’s very easy to see and do what you need on your turn. Playing digital also helps simplify some of the rules of the game. The asynchronous games are a fantastic addition, since I like playing but sometimes only have time for knock out a turn here and return later in the day. My only gripe is that my favorite view is fully zoomed out, but then you don’t get to see the animations and digital meeples of the different factions. Would love to see that added feature in the future..Version: 1.29.7

Brilliant AppI’m not normally a phone gamer, but I was itching to play more Root, and was kinda blown away by this port. I’ve played it 10+ times so far, and I’m still impressed every time I turn it on. Gorgeous animation, great music, smooth gameplay, games under a half hour, and challenges to mix up how you play - I honestly can’t ask for much more. Can’t wait for the expansion factions to come!.Version: 1.26.3

Great adaptation of a great gameAs per usual with direwolf this is a fantastic version of a great game. Everything works smoothly with no crashes and only the occasional bug that I’ve found. Graphics are fab, all the mechanics seem to work perfectly. It’s really smooth and fun to play. So good! The only letdown is the AI which can very quickly be beaten even at the hardest level and does irrational things when playing as any faction. In one game all three ai opponents kept beating on me even though I was clearly in last place. In another the ai vagabond kept beating the woodland alliance even though it was losing. Clockwork expansion helps with this though as opponents are much harder. Addition of the new winter map is great to give it some variety. Overall a fantastic conversion from cardboard to digital. A lockdown lifesaver!.Version: 1.26.1

Great game but too annoying to get 5 starsA great port of the board game with fun, enjoyable graphics and sounds. Only real issue is the constant replaying of everyone’s actions even if you have already watched it. Especially if you go to answer a text message and come back within seconds the whole app has to load up again. Fix that and it’s 5 stars..Version: 1.29.7

ImpressiveGreat translation of the board game..Version: 1.31.1

WORTH EVERY PENNY.I never write reviews so I don’t know what all to say but this game is incredible. The app is well designed and tutorial is as good as gets. Me and brother tried playing the board version and every play through we realized we were doing something wrong. Now I feel like we’ll be able to fully learn the game and play root on the go! Win-win!.Version: 1.29.3

Thank you developers! This iOS game was thoughtfully transplanted from the original. Found the app tutorial for each character very helpful to get me going right away into understanding this complex game. You’ve also captured all the charm of the original and brought it to life on screen. Highly recommend. No crashes during my many sessions. Please consider adding expansions to this already phenomenal game.Version: 1.25.3

How board game apps should be done.Root is a fantastic game. It’s not an easy game to learn, nor is it for everyone. But for anyone out there interested in this strategic war game set in a woodland setting with cats, birds, mice, and even a lone badger thrown in, you couldn’t ask for better. Many apps translate a board game experience into a digital experience fairly easily, and with roots intrinsic complexity you wouldn’t fault a more basic experience for this one, but that’s not what you’re getting here. No, this is the premium deal with combat animation and catchy beats, each character on the map has heart; this is bar none the best digital adaption I’ve ever witnessed. Bravo to the developers. If your new to root or just to the app, the tutorials are brilliant. The controls are fairly straight forward, but give the tutorials a glance, because there’s a lot going on. That being said, the app condenses much of the fiddliness of the physical game and manages things with ease. A couple of points that I’d love the developer to consider in future updates: an option to invite friends to a game and a small notification when a message in in-game chat has been sent. Thanks..Version: 1.24.1

Stylish implementation of a great gameThe challenges are a neat way of exploring lots of what the base game has to offer, without even touching the online options (which I haven’t tried)..Version: 1.25.3

StellarFix the chat notification tho. But yeah. Brilliant game and art. Great job..Version: 1.30.4

Amazing, potential for more?I had never played Root before downloading this app, but I was quickly able to learn how to play despite the complexity of the game due to the very helpful tutorials. I love the art work in the game and the overall game play is very balanced which is quite an achievement for an asymmetrical game with 6 different factions. That brings me to my next point. I am very happy about the addition to the riverfolk expansion, and I know it would take a while to make but I think the underworld expansion needs to be implemented as well. I have already bought the hard copies of root and the riverfolk expansion because I liked the gameplay, and I feel like I’d be inclined to buy the underworld expansion as well if I could play around with it for a bit..Version: 1.27.5

Clockwork Expansion not implemented correctlyThe Electric Eyrie wins every game even on it’s lowest setting, regardless of the settings of the other AI. It goes the whole game without ever going into turmoil and wins in the fewest possible turns. So that means you can only play as the Eyrie against the other Clockwork bots. Same problem with the Steam app. Upon further review I think it is implemented correctly, the Electric Eyrie is just extremely strong. (I think too strong.) I apologize for my mistake..Version: 1.25.3

Worth the priceI never write a review, but for this game I need too. I highly recommend the physical copy of root , but for the price you’re paying it’s definitely worth it with that being said the game definitely has a learning curve , but thankfully you can go against bots and change the difficulty, another thing to note is that they teach you step by step and don’t just throw you in a game. I really hope they continue to update this game!.Version: 1.25.2

Ottima trasposizione del gioco da tavolo.Ottima trasposizione dell'originale, regolamento fedele e grafica adorabile.

Nearly perfect, but annoyingFor me, the best digital board game I have played. So much is right about this, in particular how it takes care of fiddly rules so you are clear about what you are allowed to do on your turn. HOWEVER, it keeps defaulting back to easy in solo play and you have to check every. single. time or else you think you are playing a challenging game until the marquis runs back and forth for their whole turn and you feel like you have wasted the game. Please make it obvious what difficulty you are playing before you start..Version: 1.29.5

Hoping for more factionsLove the board game and your app! I don’t have much spare time but spend all my waiting at the doctor’s office and waiting to pick up my kids playing this game. It’s my go-to app for some fun when I have the time. The app far exceeded my expectations but now I have expectations for the rest of the factions. I really really really want to play the others. I have a board game group but they don’t want to play root with me anymore because of all the practice I’ve had on the app. So if you play with a competitive group, you need this app for practice. I need a new board gaming group!!! And thank you so much for the “undo” button. So many times I’ve made a stupid error while playing the Eyrie. You really have to be on your toes or you’ll go into turmoil. I’m hoping that this “undo” will help me with that. Kudos to the developers and thank you to Leder Games!!!!!!!.Version: 1.26.3

AI/Animation Speed Need Work — Rest is GoodJust echoing some comments from other people: (1) Please, please, PLEASE implement an “undo” button. I can’t count the number of times that I’ve clicked the wrong button (especially on the phone, where the buttons are tiny), and can’t go back and fix it. (2) The AI definitely needs work. One poster made a comment about (ex: ) the Eyrie putting cards into its decree that are automatic fails, and the Vagabond choosing strange items to damage. I’d add to that the fact that none of the factions seem to recognize when another one is about to win. They’ll just watch blithely as (ex: ) the Eyrie builds its 5th and 6th roosts and is just a few points away from victory, but the Vagabond with 3 swords or the Cats with plenty of warriors will just bypass lightly-guarded roosts. At some point — when a faction is nearing victory — the other factions need to pay some attention. (3) One more +1 for speeding up battles/animation. The animations are really well done, but I think the game takes 50%-100% longer than it needs to in order to show them off. I don’t need to see (ex: ) each individual bird or cat leap out of the air when they’re recruited, or walk back and forth between clearings. Some sort of setting that lets you speed up the animations, or bypass them entirely with a screen press/button, would certainly make the game less frustrating at times. But it’s a great start — keep up the good work!.Version: 1.25.1

Root MobileI fell in love with Root as a board game so it was natural to want the mobile version! They’ve done an amazing job with the animations keeping the artistic style of the board game! Sadly they don’t have the river folk or underground expansions added to the mobile game yet, hopefully that changes soon! Definitely worth the money to buy the game!!.Version: 1.26.3

Great board game, great appLove the board game and now I can play on the couch! Awesome.Version: 1.23.2

Great way to play a great gameWe love playing the tabletop version of ROOT and this version is a great way to play and learn the game with the assistance of the UI. Now we can even play with our friends and family abroad. The art assets are good and the UI is easy to learn. The recent “undo” option was exactly what we were asking for when we played a few days ago—thanks for that. My only wish is that they eventually release the expansion factions to make this fun game even more complete!.Version: 1.26.2

Great, but sometimes laggy. Also battery suckerGorgeous. Just as gorgeous as the physical game. Only issue is sometimes the connection gives out mid game and it makes it seem like it’s another player’s turn, but your turn is actually passing. You have to quit the app and come back to find out. Also, you better have your device fully charged when you start a game, lol..Version: 1.31.2

BUY THIS GAME OR YOUR LIFE IS FOREVER BORING!!!This game is the best game I’ve played out of hundreds of games I have downloaded. This game deserves 5 stars and it’s definitely worth the money! Yes the game is difficult to learn at first with the different factions but once you keep playing and do the tutorial you get the hang of it and it will be loads of fun!!! And kudos to the developers for making this game and keeping it alive!!! :).Version: 1.29.7

Excellent, but needs log of past gamesI love this board game, and the app is one of the best digital implementations of a board game I’ve seen. Well worth the money! The biggest issue I have is that there is no record of finished games. So usually when an asynchronous game ends, my friends and I are texting each other asking who won because unless you were the player to took the final turn, the game session just vanishes from your active game list with no indication that it ever existed. Really needs some way to see the results of past games!.Version: 1.28.1

I never write reviewsBut this is important. BUY ROOT. I need enough people to buy this game that they have reason to release the expansion factions! At the very least the winter map would be a nice change of pace. We need new content, and you need to experience the sleekest version of what very well might be the greatest board game of our generation. Oh, and devs - if you could speed up quick battles like 20% more (especially when the outcome is certain like removing an Alliance token) you’ll have earned your fifth star. Also also - the AI for the birds is nearly braindead (ive seen it place cards in recruit for suits it doesnt have a roost in at the time, and it doesnt value having a card in build especially a bird nearly enough) although at the same time the bird bot made a galaxy brain play and favor of the foxed on the last turn one time which was hilarious. And the vagabond has a pretty weird prioritization for which items get damaged - instead of letting other items get damaged then repairing them with hammers or ranger repair it just damages the hammers in the first place..Version: 1.24.1

RootMasterpiece game! Excellent Area control! Perfect boardgame!.Version: 1.23.2

Great adaptationAnimations are a fun novelty but quickly turned them off and zoomed all he way out. I wish you were able to see the other players info without clicking on their player icon but it is a trade off with the screen. It would be fun to see a match history tally. So you know what faction you are best with. And of course, I hope to see other factions include soon. 10$ is a lot, especially when you’ve already bought the game and expansions once! But I downloaded this game this afternoon and have already played about a dozen games. Always room for improvement but all in all would recommend.Version: 1.24.2

Outstanding digital renditionThis is ROOT the board games in all its splendor. It is easily the best digital adaptation of a boardgame I’ve ever played. I’m stunned by the quality of the animation, music, and interface for such a challenging game. My daughters and I have been playing pass and play constantly for the past few days and we can’t get enough of it. The developers did an awesome job of wrangling the fiddly rules that can be confusing at first. We played the board game and this has only encouraged us to play more. I’m really happy with the job dire wolf digital did. They are to be applauded. There’s only a few minor quibbles. Ran into an odd bug on my iPhone 7+ when doing 3 player pass and play. Sometimes the transition between players turns would freeze and we would have to save and exit then reload the game to get past the glitch..Version: 1.25.1

Great digital versionLovingly crafted digital version of Root. Decent tutorials but definitely will help if you have played the board game beforehand. Big miss not including expansion factions, hoping if the game does well we might get a digital expansion as missing a major amount of variety as is. AI is really tough and smart so can get lots of practice in without having to going online. Recommended.Version: 1.24.1

The best experience of a board game on mobile hands downFor those unfamiliar with the og board game, root is a gem in every sense of the word with an unmatched level of replayability in the strategy/war game category. Each faction plays completely unique from the others which leads to tons of variability in matches, as well as tons of different play styles and combinations to try out for each player. The ability to play pass and play as well as turn based online is great, and the in game tutorials makes learning the complex mechanisms simple. To me this is the gold standard of a table top game being ported to mobile/digital and really puts other big name games with lesser ports to shame. Updates are frequent and there is clearly a dedication and care for the source material that is incredible huge fan and stoked for the underworld expansion to be added!.Version: 1.27.2

Game as tutorial.I fell in love with the board game at first sight, but has no idea how to make sense of the complex inter penetrating rules. I struggled on until discovering this App. It has made the game so much clearer and my play experience that much richer..Version: 1.26.2

Amazing digital version of amazing board gameExtremely well implemented digital version of Root which is an amazing board game. Good way to play Root when friends aren’t available to play the board game version. Plays very well on iPad. Looking forward to Dire Wolf adding the expansions in the future to add even more variety..Version: 1.24.2

10/10Good game, excellent game.Version: 1.30.6

Amazing Digital AdaptationRoot Digital is a love letter to digital conversions of physical board games. The quality is excellent, and the fact that they have included several updates based on the expansions speaks loud and clear that they are continually supporting this game. It scratches that itch to play Root when I’m unable to get together with others to play it on tabletop. And the added bonus of not having to setup or tear down the game board is great too. I can’t wait to see if the Marauder Expansion, Landmarks, and Hirelings are in the works for digital too..Version: 1.31.1

Great game adaptation. This is a great game to play alone or against others. It's a little hard to comprehend at first if you don't know the physical board game already, but you can learn as you play. The only reason I'm withholding a star is that while it works very well on my m1 mac, the trackpad support could be better; pinch to zoom does not work well at all, seeming to do a less than 1% zoom out with a large pinch gesture. Scrolling could be easier, though if you drag the slider, then that's not so bad..Version: 1.29.5

Great way to learn the game rules and practiceGame looks and plays well. Easy to play on an iPhone. I love most that I can practice different factions on the app. I purchased all of the dlc as well. Has a fun tutorial mode for each character and then some fun challenges. Looking forward to enjoying the app more..Version: 1.31.2

Must buy for board game enthusiastsHop in for a quick game with max 3 minute turns to get the ball rolling. Or chill out with 3 day turns and take the time to strategize your next play while the other players make their move. Just a great game to sit on your iPad and be immersed, or load up on the go on your iPhone to advance you next move. Awesome game guys, keep it up! ❤️.Version: 1.23.2

🐈🦝🐁🦅 ROOT done RIGHT 🦅🐁🦝🐈Translated from a physical, tabletop game top game to an exquisite digital experience! The Kyle Ferris inspired art from the game immerses you into a beautiful and alive woodland battlefield. Underneath the cute facade is a highly tactical war game that pushes you to analyze your opponents resources and positions and your approaching goal of a wining score. A more complex board game that rewards the learning curve with a cerebral experience that stays with you. Bravo to Direwolf on this watershed moment in board game-to-digital development. And do yourself a favor if you haven’t yet- pick up a copy of the physical game to enjoy with your friends..Version: 1.23.3

Best digital board game on the marketOther developers please take note- this is the best digital board game on iOS, period. It really shows when devs take the time, love, and care to make a good implementation it really shines and does the real game justice. As someone who owns dozens of digital board games (and the physical copies as well), this puts almost all of them to shame (looking directly at you Asmodee digital). This (and Through the ages) demonstrates definitively this quality of game should be the gold standard and others need to follow suit. I will be supporting this team as much as possible, incredible job!!.Version: 1.25.1

Very nice implementation.Nice implementation of one of the standout new board games of the decade. Marked down a star for some occasionally wonky camera work. Also, wish they could have included the expansion factions, but this is an encouraging start..Version: 1.23.2
