Cultist Simulator for Positive User Reviews

Incredible gameWhile it may not look like much from the pictures this is a great game, very atmospheric, good music, very engaging. Atmospherically and gameplay-wise surprisingly similar to sunless sea and the other games made by the developers which is a great thing. Great game, thank you!.Version: 1.8.2

Really weird but greatI wanted to try this for a while and it doesn’t disappoint. Gameplay is not for everyone so read and look at a video before buying. BUT if this is your type of game it does it insanely good. The writing needed to be good enough to keep the time and resource management parts interesting and they went leaps and bounds further than they needed to. All in all if you like older browser style time management games mixed with point and click adventure mentalities all wrapped in a card based rouge like than you will love this game.Version: 1.8.3

Ideal platform for a strong gameCultist Simulator has been reviewed to death everywhere else, and if you want to know what it is you can find that anywhere. What’s important here is that the mobile release is full-featured, fully functional, and feels like it was always the way it was meant to be played. The timer-based nature of the game makes it eminently suitable for short sessions, while the relative obscurity of even the most basic gameplay suits well when you have your phone and time to use. Text size is hard to optimise but even on the smallest iPhone available it was not a serious problem for me..Version: 1.4

Great game, and great port.Extremely great game, whether you’re looking to pass the time or delve into lovecraftianesque lore. No tutorial, and little explanation past the initial actions (which is an intentional feature, not an overlooked flaw). Some bugs, but none that are game breaking. A bit of grinding in the mid to late game, though if at any point you slip up you could end up in jail, or find yourself wasting away from despair or going insane. Almost exactly the same as the computer version. My main complaint is that the table is noticeably smaller, leaving much less room for the dozens and hundreds of cards one can collect during a play through. I’ve been able to make it more manageable by reducing the grid snap size to 1/2, but it’s still frustrating at times. I haven’t gotten far enough to see if they have the apostle legacies or the dancer dlc, but the base game is still very much worth the price..Version: 1.0

Lovecraft-like horror in a single-player card game: awesomeDo yourself a favour and play this on the largest device you can. Because the game table will up with cards (some of which stack or decay), times which pop up and scupper your plans, all during which mysterious books hint at an ages-old occult world with flavours of Lovecraft but which is entirely its own thing, and all the better for it. You will die ignominiously the first few times, but once you get the hang of it, the game has the classic Civilisation “just one more turn” nature, so that you thought you’d only been playing for half and hour but now 2 hours have passed. Or maybe it’s just the game’s weirdness leaking out..Version: 1.5

PolishedIt is (as warned) very hard to understand, as everything’s so obscure. I wish opening a square ritual thing would highlight which cards can go there. I find myself opening a square and trying to start a complex ritual by just briefly holding each card I have to see if it highlights a slot... most of my game is doing this because all the concepts are so abstract..Version: 1.0

All the one star reviews are whiny babiesI wondered why this great game wasn’t at five stars, then I saw why. All of these one star reviews were people who have never played a game that isn't handholding and action packed. The game makes it very clear in the store page that it is A: a card based game B: a game that you have to experiment with to learn it. These reviews are unfair. It is a wonderful game..Version: 1.7

Intriguing as anything I’ve playedThe title says it all really. A fantastic game for anyone looking to uncover the mysteries of an occult fantasy world..Version: 1.0

Hard crashes that destroy saved gamesAdore the game, I’m a long time fan. But on multiple occasions I’ve had hard crashes that don’t allow you to load the save file, the only option is to begin again. Beautiful game idea ruined by aggressively hostile user interaction in the meta-game..Version: 1.9

Brilliant, dense, and rewardingAnother excellent game from the mind of Alexis Kennedy. (Pity about the sex-pest thing). The writing is amazing, telling just enough in small snippets to let the mind fill in the gaps. But the real shining point is the gameplay. It is obtuse and unexplained, making you feel just like the character you play as, gradually falling deeper and deeper into the conspiracies and the rituals, until the mechanics that were so difficult when you began are second-nature. This is the point that the game shines: when you begin to find the patterns and the world unlocks..Version: 3.6.1

If Dark Souls and Lovecraft’s Library Had A BabyIt’s hard. Merciless. You will go mad, starve to death, or simply waste away. You might get eaten because you agreed to a deal you didn’t understand. But you’ll learn. Oh, you’ll learn, and as you do, you will progress. Each iteration of curious aspirant will probe deeper and deeper beneath the skin of the world, past hoary sinew and esoteric flesh, into the heart of What is True..Version: 1.0

Fantastic dark adventureThis is a great game, full of sinister atmosphere and deep mechanics. Without spoiling anything, you are drawn into a Lovercraft style world of strangeness and the occult. Will you thrive and come to lead, or fall to madness? The game functions by the mechinism of having various task cards on which you place various resource cards, bringing about results after a short time. It gets more complicated than it sounds, with you having to manage multiple timers like a set of spinning plates, while making decisions as to how to spread your limited resources to best advance your cause. I played this a while ago on PC, and was pleasantly surprised to see it appear on the App Store. It always seemed to me an iPad was the natural home for a game with such tactile mechanics and this turned out to be the case. This is the best place to pay an excellent, if slightly niche, game..Version: 1.0

Great Game, Sound doesn’t workI love this game, I played it a lot before on PC so I bought it release day on the App Store. However, the sound isn’t working for me in game. Other reviews haven’t mentioned this so I thought it was my problem. However I tried restarting my phone, restarting the app, nothing helped. I am using an IPhoneXs if it helps. I would rate this 5 stars if the sound works. [Edit] The sounds works now.Version: 1.0

Got this on mobile and pcA great game still tempted to buy the expansions for this game as well. It’s hard takes time to figure out. Wealthy heir getting money is best start. But you have no job you can only get menial work. Physician then police man the gubber and gubber office job imo lowest hardest. Keep at it it’s difficult but keep at it well worth £6.99 endless replayability.Version: 3.6.1

An Eldritch OnionCultist Simulator is a wonderful eldritch onion. Initially it tells you very little, letting the player test different combinations of cards to uncover the game for themselves. This is an incredibly refreshing approach and once the loops of the game uncover themselves it becomes super compulsive to uncover the vignettes of lore. Thoroughly recommended..Version: 1.1

IntoxicatingCards, occult mysteries, clockwork and dream walking… what strange and wonderful sorcery is this?!.Version: 1.9

This one really gets under your skinThey’re not kidding - there’s no tutorial. But there are hints sprinkled through the game letting you know some things you could try. Remember, it’s a rogue-like, so don’t be afraid to die a few times. The Darkness doesn’t render up its secrets easily….Version: 1.9

Masterful. Evocative. Unforgiving. This game does not reveal its secrets to all. But to the worthy, the Mansus gives generously. Do not mistake the Mansus’ generosity for kindness..Version: 1.7

FantasticUtterly fantastic..Version: 1.1

Solid unique card/clicker gamePretty critical information: the main mechanic in this game is waiting, and learning through random trial. If that sounds okay, and the theme interest you, definitely get this game. Its a fantastic mobile game and a great timesink when youre at the airport or on A long train ride. As engaging as any of the actual HP Lovecraft stories..Version: 1.8.2

As flies to wanton boys are we to the godsSummoned the immortal aspect of a once-mortal scholar to read the words I found in a book written in a witch’s language under the watchful eye of a demi-god whose attention I caught by sleeping next to a mystic mirror which cracked when I awoke, all to be counted amongst the Names and achieve immortality myself. 10/10.Version: 1.4

WonderConfusing, scary and indecipherable at first, this opens into something amazing and all consuming; like the best cults..Version: 1.3

Compelling gameI made the mistake of buying this on PC. Not because it is a poor game, but because I could have bought it on IOS two weeks later for a third of the price. Even though I have not reached far, I enjoy the game and find it compelling. It is perfect for IOS because you can pick up and play, leaving it when convenient. The only drawback on iPad is that the table seems a bit crowded, but so far it is manageable..Version: 1.0

Difficult at first, but great gameThe game is very hard at first. You aren’t taught what resources do what, you don’t know how cards will interact, you will probably starve. Don’t worry about winning at first, you won’t even get close. Focus on learning what cards do what. Also don’t assume there’s only a single option for something or you’ll probably overlook alternative options and get stuck..Version: 1.3

IndoctrinatedSuch a clever game. Been at this for a year, and I’m still discovering hidden wrinkles that I didn’t see before. Takes a while to master, but the power you’ll wield over the game as an adept makes all those trials and tribulations pay off. Can’t wait for Book of Hours..Version: 1.5

Massively addictive, compelling and SO MANY PATHSLove this game, it’s pretty all-consuming after a while....Version: 1.5

Soo much funThe game is soo much fun especially when commuting as time seems to seamlessly pass when playing this game which I feel is the most important aspect of any mobile game. I have reached one of the many victories so here a few tips for newcomers: Remember the game wants you to experiment and find new things out by yourself, thats why there is no tutorial. It took me many lifetimes to finally reach one of the endings, but learning and experimenting is part of the fun! One thing i would definitely mention is to make sure to start slowly, and frequently pause and READ CARDS. You should always keep your verbs occupied unless you are waiting for something particular. On that note, books are the source of all knowledge in this game. This is one of the main ways to progress the game as it will unlock different lores or rites. The other main way to progress in this game is to travel through the spiritual realm called the "Mansus", you will first need your find your way there, maybe being *passionate* will help you start on your ascension. Enjoy fellow occultists!.Version: 1.0

Amazing Game, Great PortApril 15. purchased a new, bigger table from oriflamme's. it's easier to plan my next moves. the bureau was on my case, he said. something about indiscretion. looking for a man asking around for a table to perfectly arrange his mysteries unceasing, complaining of an awful stench from luminous fluids mixing together. it's true. they fell into each other. it's a smell you can't get out of your eyes for days. well, try to find me now: everything's neat and organized, all my inventory is in order. i know exactly where and how to strike back. i reach towards my papers, reach into the granary of truth, reach under the skin of the world... everything is laid out perfectly on this table. order prevails. the maid does, too..Version: 1.1

One of my all-time favorites!I have come back to this game over and over again for years. Anytime I can’t quite figure out what game I feel like playing, the answer is typically this one. It scratches an it h unlike any other game..Version: 3.6.1

An awesome game! This game offers hours of engagement, and really makes you feel like you’re building a cult from the ground up to become a figure of unearthly power. My only gripes are that in the later game, caves can really slow you down, and there are some glitches with Sulochana. For instance, the game says I should be able to use her to gain entrance to the club, but it never starts..Version: 1.0

Moody masterpieceI’ve never been a big fan of board/card games, but I do love games that immerse the player in their world. This game has an H.P. Lovecraft feel, a mixture of reality and fantasy. As a card game it relies heavily on art, writing, and music to give the player an immersive experience and fortunately these are all first rate. At the start the game can be frustrating as their are no instructions. However it is well designed to reward the player for experimenting. You begin with only one action available: Work. Then Study and Dream become possible. Try different actions using different cards. Reading and enjoying the tone as your story unfolds is a big part of the game..Version: 3.6.1

Very intelligentIt’s called Cult Simulator for a reason I myself am very interested in the occult and in the real world there is no lead or guide to such practice of the invisible arts This is so deep and realistic in a way of the occult It’s all about learning and if you fail, don’t fret that’s the point. Just like real life. By failing is the result of mastering the game. I wasn’t very good at playing which everyone won’t be but in time you will master it I had a cult for a very long time and never lost I’m the end I succeeded but went down a dangerous..almost Lovecraftion path. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s bad just because it has no tutorial to it. It’s amazing and I want more of this. Also there is a tutorial but you have to find it for yourself and it also depends on what occult lead you want to learn..Version: 1.5

Read a lot of books. Maybe shed your skin.A “card” game where you build a group of followers and maybe send them towards really horrible fates. The gameplay and music is oddly calming, like a still library unbothered by the sound of nails scratching on the other side of the mirror. The writing is beautiful, and is a truer homage to weird 1920s fantasy than a lot of the “Lovecraftian” games out there where you shoot at a giant squid or something..Version: 1.0

A MasterpieceWhether desires are innocent and pure, mysterious and dark, or points between, find the means to fund your dreams and keep your health, for the life one travels may be long… or short. Everything matters, yet nothing is foretold. To learn is to make choices and glean from those outcomes what may aid in your adventure. This game is more an experience— ever-changing through each play through. It weaves the complications of life’s choices and consequences in a very mature manner, though never really making the adventurer feel like a failure. The writing is brilliant, the art wonderful, the music helps set the noir atmosphere. It’s all a fascinating ride!.Version: 1.9

Weirdly wonderfulStrangest game I’ve ever played and I’m totally absorbed. Beautifully written, nice to look at, tasteful soundtrack and I love the feelings of discovery. Not the easiest game to understand but I like that you get out what you put in. Very pleased, thanks for making it :).Version: 1.3

Favorite gameI usually don’t even receive games but this one is definite worth it. I’ve played through 20 times and still haven’t won but each time I lose I simply groan a bit before smiling and pressing new game. Without a doubt the best game I have on my phone and truly the best game I’ve ever played.Version: 1.6

WowI have been searching for a game to scratch the occult itch that I’ve have for far too long and this game nailed it. No tutorial but an amazing community of people willing to help and point you In The right way. The mysterious nature tagged with the multiple endings and explore on your own and risk takings that you have to do, this game is amazing and you can bet I’ll be buying any and all dlc for this game to dabble in the occult mysteries.Version: 1.7

A very odd, delightful game of words and storyThe clue’s in the name. You’re playing a cultist, but less of the chanting and murder aesthetic and more of the slightly maddened researcher uncovering the hidden truths behind the world... and learning to use them. The mythos is incredible and built from the ground up in a way that delights readers, but feels fresh and new and almost obsessive to learn more about due to how carefully it’s been constructed. Make no mistake that this is a card game and there is plate spinning involved, and a lot of trial and error. But it’s very cool that that kind of mirrors the experience of being a cultist - you don’t know what you’re doing, and you’re dying, and then, all of a sudden, there is the euphoria of a breakthrough. I’m a big fan. I would definitely recommend this game if you have good headphones and an overactive imagination. It’s words on a page and a sense of figuring out things as you place down your cards in different tiles and use reading comprehension and a very... odd sense of logic, to figure out what might just happen. You make the story happen in your mind, but this game provides the encouragement to make it something magical..Version: 1.0

I’m not a real cultist but I play one on my iPadAmazing writing as always - the lack of a tutorial is a blessing more than a curse, as it makes finding your way around the systems feel like rewarding discoveries. The “card table” is a little clunky to navigate, but it’s a fascinating game and well worth the time and patience put into it..Version: 1.0

The Darkness calls me for one more descentThe growing circles of the passage of time consume my waking thoughts. When I dream it is of a dark table in an empty room. The distant glimmer of the lamp light urges me to persist, whilst vague sensations of despair and loss seem to gnaw at the edges of my very soul. Will I ever reside within the not-walls of the mansus? Must I eternally flutter moth-like against its fenestrations, compelled to persist by the flickering lamp light beyond my reach?.Version: 1.0

Great game of the Great Game...Anyone of a Lovecraftian bent will enjoy the purple prose in this mysterious game of decadent occult research, where the mystery begins in working out what the hell you are supposed to be doing. I helped kickstart the original PC version, and have been waiting for the app to come out, since it cries out for a touch interface. The game cunningly gets you to adopt the role of the very seeker after forbidden knowledge you play in the way *it*plays, since you spend the early game fumbling around trying not to starve, get sacrificed, or arrested for outraging the art world (!) whilst messing with forces you really don’t understand. Still loving it, but there is (still) a bit of a hurdle to repeated playthroughs of this rogue like sort of card game, in that after each death you will find yourself hurrying through a largely familiar round of toil and study before the game opens up into the world beyond... It could benefit from a few more paths to try at the start, and some more devious routes to the first unveiling of mysteries. Otherwise, and especially at the intro price, give it a go. There really is nothing else like it out there (though the devs Sunless Seas and Fallen London have the same louche baroque flavour they lay very differently.) Even with the sameness of the early game, you owe it to yourself to open the third eye and journey within....Version: 1.0

Five ‘descents’ and still enthralling...Beautiful, absorbing, challenging, mysterious, deadly. I’ve played this five times now and am scarcely any closer to knowing what the heck is going on, but loving every minute. ‘Cultist Simulator’ requires you to keep a sharp eye on your vital signs and have one eye on multiple clocks at all times. Figuring out which elements interact is highly rewarding but can lead you down dark paths. I’d advise keeping a notepad handy to remind you what you need to complete tasks, as many resources will decay before you can use them. I’d have expected great things from the creator of ‘Sunless Sea’, and while this looks simpler, it isn’t, and you have no time to hang around working it all out. If you like Lovecraft, the occult, mystery, thrillers or steampunk, I’d check out this game. A bargain at the price given its replayability..Version: 1.7

I LOVE this game, BUT....It is SO difficult to get health. Like, I can’t even count on 1 hand how many times I’ve died from having no health, and I’ve only been playing this game for a few hours. Please do something about that lol.Version: 1.4

Where have you beenI’ve been craving a game of such sublimity and poetic tempo. Masterfully made..Version: 3.6.1

Making amendsOver a year ago, I first gave this app two (2) stars. I played it a few times, couldn’t understand it, and deleted it. In the three weeks since I re-downloaded it, I have won twice, lost countless times, and become completely immersed in Cultist Simulator’s compelling and mysterious atmosphere. Let me be clear: this game is hard. It takes time to work things out, it’s infuriating when you unwittingly end the game before you can win. But once you’re into the (admittedly steep) learning curve, it is incredibly satisfying to know how to combat various events and happenstances, and when (/if) you win, it feels well earned. I don’t review many games, only if they’re awful or amazing. Cultist Simulator is amazing. Exactly my kinds of game, exactly my kind of atmosphere. 10/10..Version: 1.9

My favourite game now.A little difficult to get into, but still enjoyable. I haven’t won once and I keep eating my followers. Dinner time..Version: 1.9

Completely engrossingProbably the best iPad game I’ve played. And I still don’t know most of what’s going on. I hope they port the downloadable content that’s available on other platforms..Version: 1.0

Enjoyment beckons, but at the expense of sanityLike the makers’ other games, it’s a great idea with novel mechanics, but falls flat when it comes to usability, longevity and player-centric design. Too often, the ‘mysterious’ and ‘explorative’ gameplay ends up being a bit of an excuse for bad interaction design. Be prepared to quickly understand the workings of the game, only to be twice frustrated by how it layouts different classes of cards (not convenient, painfully similar) or how you will frantically need to drag cards into slots vaguely trying to remember which obscure combo allowed you to put another obscure thing in another. At the very least it should upgrade to better helper functions once you have understood the game. I feel oddly punished for understanding how the gameplay works, as the interface punishes the experienced player to provide an initial brief figuring out period. All in all, I recommend this game for its honest and brave stab at creating new concepts, but I will caveat it with above frustrations..Version: 1.1

Isn’t that so true to the PC versionI love Cultist Simulator, honestly. But a few changes here and there bumped me out a lot. Such cases are you can't go and explore Fleeting Reminiscent. It might be a bug, who knows..Version: 1.4

Beautiful gameI do have the PC version, so had a head start. Now I can play it wherever. Hypnotically beautiful and intriguing. It will not be everyone’s cup of tea. If it’s for you.... you’ll know..Version: 1.0

Can You Really Understand? When your shadow's eyes look back at you with the light of stars, you will begin to comprehend this game. Victory means you must surrender to the control exerted by the entities in the inner space of your ipad compelling you to slide your finger just so, apply pressure there, and then timing everything just wrong so that you may fall into their victory. Learning curve is intentional. Do not look up on the internet how to play, where is the fun in that? Just keep trying different things. Also, I paused every time anything happened. Big button is there for a reason; otherwise you cannot read what is going on. If you are trying for something completely mindless, do not like discovering your own way, and find experimentaionnirritating, then the game is not for you,.Version: 1.5

Great gameAnd also, not every pc ported games are supported continuously like this game. Great game ported by great company.Version: 1.6

Impenetrable yet captivating10/10 not a clue what I'm doing but I'm getting farther each time and it's quite captivating. I don't even think I've done any cult related activities yet as I seem to die very soon after forming one, but I'm sure that will come!.Version: 1.0

A creative and confusing gameI rate this 5 stars because it’s a fun game and it’s so cool to learn I don’t suggest learning by using wiki or other things getting help from a freind is fine don’t let them tell you too much tho but this game is definitely confusing but for ones that have a bit of patience and are interested in a unique experience each time this is the game for you this isn’t a fast paced game or anything like that please do not be wavered to buy this great game by some of the bad reviews if you think you would like it you most likely will most of the people that didn’t probably didn’t take the time to understand this game so I implore you to also buy this game if it looks of something that fits your interest or if it doesn’t you can always try something new 🤷‍♂️.Version: 1.7

Fascinating; addictiveTo put it simply, if you like managing multiple nodes at the same time to survive (like in mini Metro), you will like this game. If you like finding secrets, exploring new paths, delving into mysteries... you will like this game. I haven’t been this hooked in a long, long time. I was apprehensive of the lack of tutorial warning, since the last game I tried warned of the same thing and I was too confused to understand and enjoy. For this game, the confusion is purposeful. The basics are obvious, so you can hop right in. Click and drag: that’s it. You click and drag the card to the square. There’s even a manual to explain (which made me wonder about the no-tutorial thing but whatever). What’s confusing is how to survive; how to balance the different elements so you don’t perish; and what elements unlock new things. And that’s the purpose of the game; to discover those things. Easy to learn, hard to master and all of that jazz. The mechanics fit brilliantly. You don’t grind for unlocks but you won’t go through any one play through where you haven’t discovered another cool thing to explore — and another way to die. But since you are constantly progressing, death is insignificant, not annoying. It’s a progression game done right. Not to mention, the atmosphere, sound effects, music, writing and style blend together seamlessly. In fact, the writing is lyrical and brilliant. No easy sentences or rough translation here. I have yet to encounter any bugs..Version: 1.0

A genre of its own (but glitchy)An extremely intriguing game that has a 4D depth behind its 3D interface. You can really sense the love that went into its creation. It isn’t a game you play to rush through to an ending or to ‘win’ - rather one that accompanies you on a journey, nudging and guiding you with its hauntingly beautiful narrative, dipping a toe into alchemy and disappearing round the next bend in a way that creates the illusion of forcing you to tune into personal instinct rather than reason. At the moment, there is what seems to be a very obvious bug that I’m finding frustrating, because I’d like to explore the transformation side of the game and I think this might be a key - it isn’t possible to visit the club with Sulochana, despite her instructing you to meet her there - the start button remains greyed out. Hopefully (unless I’m missing a trick!) this will be fixed soon. A really good piece of game design, nonetheless..Version: 1.1

You can eat people, or get a job as a clerkAlso you can starve to death on the streets or go insane and die or go to jail or get transfigured and ascend into some kind of demented quasi-Lovecraftian godhood. It’s also kind of like Solitaire if Solitaire had a zillion weird cards with little timers on them and some of the cards were called things like Moth or Reason or The Policeman Locked In Your Cupboard..Version: 1.0

Faithful reproductionThis is exactly the same as the pc version now with touch.... ignore the bad reviews from people who do not understand the game and what it tries to achieve. It’s an immense grand strategy played with cards and timers with over 400 hours on the pc and quite a bit on tablet I have managed nearly all of the end conditions and it’s still great to sit down and sink a couple of hours into this, and you can still be surprised good job.Version: 1.7

Solitaire with a side of mysticismCultist simulator is a frantic pursuit of eldritch power in a dystopian state. You can win a minor victory without ever dipping more than a toe into the dreaming world of the Mansus. You don’t have to sacrifice life to become an immortal. Cultist simulator is interesting because if you fail, you have only yourself to blame. The game consists of using cards you draw with “actions” that consume them. The results have an element of randomness, but if you carefully observe the possible results of your actions the randomness is highly controllable. Each of the “game over” threats have a “three strikes, you’re out” rule to them. If you get a strike, you can avoid generating more if you pay attention, and focus on generating a card to clear the threat. You will lose because you will get wrapped up in figuring out the next step in becoming more powerful, and miss a failure condition generating out of control. This game is about keeping managed control as you delve deeper into a richly written world of otherworldly knowledge. It feels great, and let’s you empathize with what it’s like to descend further into questionable choices as you pursue power. Play it. It’s worth the cost. You can win a minor victory without ever becoming a magical demigod. But where is the fun in that?.Version: 1.7

Unable to load gameThe game is really amazing, but after a few weeks of playing, the game would not open properly. Now whenever it loads, it remains a black screen with background music where the home screen of the game once was. I have deleted and redownloaded the game a few times, but the problem still persists. I do not know what to do and would greatly appreciate this bug getting fixed or being instructed how to on my end..Version: 1.4

I have my fire, my books, my clock, my window on the world where they do other things. This game was always going to port well to tablets, but there has been a couple of extra quality of life improvements that make the transition just a little easier. Cultist Simulator, honestly, is a lot more suited to relaxing on a sofa or in a bed (as you would with a book) than it is to a cramped computer desk, and this might end up being my preferred platform in the future..Version: 1.0

Great game...requires patience! With no tutorial and no clue what to do, your first character (or 3) will quickly succumb to...something. But new characters will build on the deeds of previous characters, and once you start to figure out the mechanics, there’s a cool game hidden underneath. There are still concepts I haven’t figured out yet, but piecing together the mechanics is part of the game itself, and successes feel earned..Version: 1.0

Patience is the key to this addictive card gameI downloaded it yesterday on a whim and I’ve been rewarded with an intriguing game that appeals to my sense of the unknown, curiosity and darkness. I loved that there is no tutorial as such, but I would like tips on how to progress and unlock more cards. Time will tell if it will still be holding my attention next week....Version: 1.0

This game is phenomenalI bought this game because I played it endlessly on pc. Much like sunless sea this game works really well on handheld devices. Although because the scale this game can get with your table full of cards in later more major victory paths I’d recommend playing this on iPad or pausing a lot to read each card..Version: 1.3

Temptation: change?I’ve been trying for a while to get temptation change by taking sulochana as entry to the club, but the button is grayed out every time. Am I missing something or is something wrong? Would appreciate help. Besides that the game is absolutely fantastic.Version: 1.3

Incredibly fun though hard to get intoThis game is incredibly fun! The varitety or options and paths you can stumble upon is mind boggling. Though I’ve had a great time with this game I have to say getting into it took some time. Their really isn’t much of a tutorial o how to play and everything is very confusing. Lots of different factors and mechanics that aren’t really explained at all..Version: 1.4

Beautiful, Mysterious, ThoughtfulIt is best to go into this game without reading any walkthroughs. The sense of mystery and exploration will pay dividends. Be patient, and see how far down the rabbit hole you can go. The only negative I see is that the developer has not made any of the wonderful DLC from the PC version available, nor do I know if they have intentions of releasing it..Version: 1.3

TitleHow do I play.Version: 1.4

Die, learn, summon dark godsThis is a card game where you start a cult, do strange research and die. It’s so compelling. I was worried it wouldn’t play well on mobile but it’s surprisingly natural. Beautiful spooky music, great writing. Lots of spooky text..Version: 1.0

Pretty good. It's a god, fun puzzle game that made me feel one with the occult..Version: 1.1

Crazy crazy addictiveHard to put down.Version: 1.0

More like this please! What a cool, mysterious, intriguing game! I must admit I was frustrated at first not knowing what was going on but thats part of the beauty of it, the writing is so interesting and you do slowly start understanding how the game works. Like a great mystery novel that keeps you guessing all the way through, Cultist Simulator is one of the best games on the app store and 1000000 bonus points to the devs for not ruining it in a ‘pay to play’ way. Classic stuff, keep the dlc coming and please make more games like this!.Version: 1.5

Amazing experienceThis is a great game - for any platform. I’d pay for a large expansion including new professions, etc. I know there’s still much more to explore and I’m still getting the hang of it, but I can tell this game is worth it. The style, the writing, the immersion and unique play mechanic... I want more. This is excellent..Version: 1.4

Brilliant, challenging, bizarreReally excellent mobile port of a groundbreaking game. If you already know the game, I’ll say it plays beautifully on the phone and frankly feels like it belongs there better than PC. If you don’t know the game - woof. It’s an addictive phone puzzler, a brutally difficult resource management sim, and a masterwork of interactive fiction. The thing is practically it’s own genre..Version: 1.0

Great PortPlays 99% as similar as the PC version!I would recommend!.Version: 1.3

Great game, pain in the AS$ moving systemThe game is great, with many challenging and well thought ideas however, moving cards is an annoyance. For example, I have 83 funds, I accidentally split the pile by mistake. No worries, I’ll just move the pile back. I wish it was that simple but every time I do it the pile just splits up again. If there was a way were you could just hold down on a card and it’ll take ALL copies of that said card for you to freely distribute and move them around, I’d give this game a 5 star..Version: 1.7

StunningAlthough the Mansus has now left its mark upon my soul, it is with some relief that this version of the curséd card game burns in my mind. Surely the King in Yellow could not have designed such fiendish rules. I cannot tear myself away....Version: 1.0

A truly special gameI do not usually write reviews but I have to say, this is just great. Great atmosphere and world, and the puzzle presented is just my kind of thing. Two things I will say though, if you like clear rules this is not the game for you as all the fun is figuring out how to play and advance, and I would like it if at some point you guys (aimed at the developers) would add in an option to restart the... I don’t know “level” or the next step after you win the first game or whatever you like to call it as it gets old going through the same motions to get to the next part again and again. Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m missing something because I can see literally no other mistakes. May the great mother embrace you developers..Version: 1.7

An Instant Cult ClassicBeen playing for a long time and am glad to see they are finally releasing the DLCs on mobile! I’m loving them so far and for the price they are more than worth it. If you haven’t played it it’s a very unique time and resource management card game with very interesting flavor text and lore based around managing different kinds of cults and gaining magical knowledge and power. If you think any of that sounds cool, check. It. Out. P.s. I wish Weather Factory a speedy release of Book Of Hours (new game in development based in the same universe) and would like to remind them they have fans on mobile that can’t wait to get their hands on it..Version: 1.7

A must-buy!Cultist simulator is a truly unique and well made game, and though it is difficult at times, that is one of the charms of it. I’ve read reviews saying that the game is too hard, confusing etc but I assure you, it is! Cultist simulator is not supposed to be easy and just because it doesn’t hold your hand throughout the game doesn’t mean it’s a bad one. The game literally tells you to experiment, because the developers knew that you would die time and time again before actually getting an ending. The game itself is unique and is very original, it’s something that you wouldn’t expect on iOS. I haven’t been playing for that long but I’m hooked! Note that it can be a little hard to read on navigate on the iPhone but the developers are working on it..Version: 1.0

Man this is weird and very interestingI’d recommend giving this game a try if you want a very different experience. The whole idea of experimenting with cards is great really like it.Version: 1.8.1

Great game.The title says it all..Version: 3.6.1

Goodbye, Time. Hello, Hours. It’s easy to see why we’re chasing the Hours in this game because I’ve lost a countless number of them flipping, turning, and waiting on cards. A fantastic game; do yourself a favor and stay away from the wiki for a while. It really is rewarding to figure things out yourself. NOTE RE: EXILE UPDATE: The Exile update appears to have changed/patched gameplay (depending on your perspective, I guess) such that you can NO LONGER hold a hard in your “hand” away from a magnet. I wasn’t expecting that change, and I’m not sure that I’m a huge fan. It seems like the PC version kept an option to leave that “feature” on when it patched it out, but as of now, the iOS version doesn’t. Just something I wish I’d known before I updated..Version: 1.8

Taken me three months to get to jut one endingAbsolutely loved it, perfect from long dull train journeys to work! The fact there are no instructions makes it fun.Version: 1.4

Pretty good but I’d really like a second save fileI love the game and only have a few suggestions but to be clear it’s a great game and my suggestions are just that suggestions. Firstly, another save file would be great so I could try the new dlc when they come out without having to die in my current game. Secondly, the game takes place on a table top I think and it would be neat if you could maybe change it to a different theme perhaps you could unlock them by completing ascensions. Lastly, I love the music but an option to maybe skip some of them or play a specific one would be pretty neat in my opinion. Overall I love the game but I just think these could be neat improvements but of course I’m not a game designer so there just ideas..Version: 1.7

Great Game!I love this game, and I’m happy I bought it. My only complaint is that even at its’ largest, the text still is a bit too small to comfortably read. Other than that (minor) issue, I’ve been completely satisfied. 9/10 personally, but if you can read smaller text it’s definitely a 10!.Version: 1.4

ICloud sync deleted ALL my progressYea...I still love this game, though. Finally beat it and mastering it. One of my favs for sure. Edit: like one of the other reviewers has said, you aren’t able to do the ‘Temptation: Change’ aka ‘The Dancer’ storyline/playthrough even though there are hints in the cards when you talk to the specific person and also ‘The Dancer’ achievements are shown as available in Game Center. I have contacted the devs who said they will get back to me (much appreciate for quick response) and they think the dlc wasn’t added to iOS...again, weird since the conversation texts are in the game and the achievements are too: but it refuses to let you speak to a certain person at the club. Hopefully devs will fix/add this ASAP! If anyone else is having this issue be sure to request as well so we can continue our crazy cult fun!.Version: 1.3

What I like in phone gamesReplay value = infinite Level of polish = Superb Easy to use with short bursts of time = YESSS So many scenarios, so many choices and paths to take. However it takes some thought & MuCh experimentation to make sure you don’t fail. I wish there were more strategy games like this... I will gladly pay for expansions as I haven’t been able to put this down in my free time during public transport etc I wonder if they will port sunless sea to the App Store ?.Version: 1.4

Excellent on MobileI did not enjoy playing this game on pc. But as an app, I find it much more fitting. Excellent all around. The one negative I have is that when cards are taken for a tile, sometimes other cards fill their location. This is just an annoyance when it comes to keeping things organized..Version: 1.9

Worth the moneyLove the concept and it’s been executed well. My only complaint is that the aim is unclear. I found a few things like temptation power but it doesn’t explain what to do with it. But all said and done, great game!.Version: 1.0

Not for the impatientI have seen many reviews that claim this game is too difficult of makes no sense in some regards, they are both right and wrong I believe. Yes the game lacks a tutorial and does not help you at all but that’s the point, it’s a game where the more you play the more you learn about how it works, when I first started off I barely had any idea what everything did or could cause to happen but now I have at least enough to be able to know when to hold off or go all in, trying to rush the game is not a great idea either as it can cause you to fall into trouble your not yet ready for, patience is the key here for the most part. Yes you have limited resources and such at times and again you have to know when to stop, the game allows you to pause it for a reason it’s not just to stop whatever’s going on but to in my opinion allow you to think before you act and decide how best to use those resources and when to use them. Overall while the game can be challenging once you actually get the idea of how everything works at the basic level your more or less set for the entire game as you can then advance your own knowledge as you go and if you die or lose the game then pick yourself up and try and try again..Version: 1.9

HauntingSimple mechanics create almost infinite complexity, and the game has a dreamlike intensity that’s hard to pin down. I’ll put it down for a while, then need to play again. No pay to win, no extra anything to buy - just play your cards and keep dreaming.Version: 1.9

“There Is A Power Which Commemorates And GrievesFrom Whom Nothing Is Taken, But Who Cannot Be Deceived. You Might Expect To Be Able To Crush Him In Your Hand, Into Bird-Bone Fragments.” The Elegiast does not forget. And, having played this game, neither can I. My mind is awash with the tales of the Mansus- like the painted river itself flows between my temples. And when the tide rises, maybe then I will glimpse something myself- some vague hint of those shapes, those beautiful shapes hidden so close to us, trapped behind the world’s skin. Oh, how I desire to open the way. Tl;Dr: Good game. Go play it..Version: 3.6.1

What An Incredible GameNow I’ve never been one for playing card-based games, nor writing reviews, but here I have found myself writing this after playing this particular game for hours, waiting on edge for every next move I make. You start the game a bit lost, figuring out just how to play along the way, discovering the detailed and enthralling lore behind it and just how to rise in a new and mysterious world. In short, I love this game. It’s captivating and insanely full of compelling storylines. The more you okay, the more you discover, and the more you realize you haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of the depth this game offers. 10/10, would eternally recommend!.Version: 1.0

Amazing game!!!It is hard. It won’t hold your hand. But discovering everything is SOOOO rewarding. This is a gem. You can’t compare this to anything. It really is a beast of it’s own. I just can’t put it down!.Version: 1.5

Atmospheric, spooky game that inspires curiosityThis game is fascinating to me. It reminds me of Dark Souls in the way the player has to discover the secrets of the game by playing it. The lore of the game is fascinating and the story is implied through the cards that you play. It’s a little bit like Civilization or a city builder in that you gain escalating powers but you build a cult instead of a nation or city. It’s a little bit like a role playing game. But of course it is totally different to all these games, it is it’s own thing..Version: 3.6.1

Impossibly odd, utterly enjoyableI was dubious about a digital card game; but a friend insisted I try it, and I’m very glad they did. This game is beautiful; this game is frustrating. This game is terrifying, sad, quixotic, mirthful, and ultimately, mesmerizing. You don’t just play this game, you explore it. And although feeling out the rules might seem like a devilish proposition at first, you quickly realize that the act of discovery is a vital part of this game’s magic. You delve into the rules like your character delves into the occult, pulling you right along with them and playing with your expectations and emotions in ways you didn’t think possible. I can’t recommend this game enoug..Version: 1.5

Perfect Marriage of Theme with GameplayThere are many things to love about this game, but I want to call out its perfect ludo-narrative harmony. After a few hours of slowly building complexity, no step too intimidating or too sudden, you’ll zoom out and realize you’ve assembled the cards which represent your cult and your knowledge of the occult into a crazy conspiracy board of patterns which only make sense to you. Nothing feels out of place in this game..Version: 1.0

This game is phenomenalIt took me a while to get into this game but lately I’ve been obsessed. I love how it is designed to be good for experimenting and trying new things and sort of like a rogue like in that way. I’ve been playing it in my computer in steam and it works really well. Unfortunately on my phone it quits every few minutes minutes. Is there a fix for that?.Version: 1.9

Most iOS games are garbage. This one is a rare exception. Most iOS games are garbage pay-to-win games aimed at a casual audience. Mobile developers have zero respect for players as they use so-called “dark patterns” to make you effectively gamble online, just in the context of a game. Alexis Kennedy and weather factory are a rare exception. This game is fantastic. And it’s a one-time-purchase with entirely optional and reasonably-priced DLCs that actually add quality content. This game is very slow paced and heavy on the reading. So it is not for everybody. But if you like games that make you think, you’re gonna love this one..Version: 3.6.1

Disarmingly deep gameThis game has a lot of depth to it. The more you play the more there is to discover within the narrative and world - it took me quite a few frustrated tries to ‘get’ it but breaking through the learning curve is extremely satisfying and once you do, the game really begins to open up..Version: 1.5

Maybe not so playable on small iPhoneI was excited about this game coming to mobile and I do really like it, only problem is I have an iPhone SE and it strains my eyes after a little while, and sometimes it's tricky to navigate the cards. I know you can zoom in but you miss some of the action. Otherwise would have been 5 stars..Version: 1.0

A challenging roguelike card-game with a couple of big flawsIf you like punishing, you’ve come to the right place. Cultist Simulator is a genuinely fascinating and engaging virtual card-game where you only have one save and there’s no take-backs. It’s a game of trying to reach ascension via Sensation, Enlightenment or Power. The game works by making you learn the rules as you play, and by periodically dropping difficult challenges in front of you. It’s fun, and sometimes immensely frustrating. The frustration is the killjoy for me. Mess up your timing or selection once? No take-backs! Get distracted by anyone or anything whilst the live timer is running? You lost your job! And it’s easy to miss the build-up of game-ending problems with everything that’s going on. Although there’s a snap-to grid for the virtual cards, the organisation system is your own, and as it gets busier and busier it’s harder and harder to keep track of what’s going on. There’s no real warning you’re nearly at game over until a card or system turns red - and by then, it’s probably too late. This is fun. I’d buy it again. But stand back, and you realise that it’s got elements of a rat maze made harder by what appears to be degrees of random chance. The only way to learn is the hard way. And I was kind of hoping we’d gotten beyond that in game design now. But hey - I’d buy it again and I’ll play it again. And again. Eventually I’ll win. I hope..Version: 3.6.1

Wonderful but text can be too small. Edit not anymoreI have an Xs Max and I still struggle to see the text in the boxes. Please give us a few more scaling options and this will be perfect. Fabulous game that I recommend to all. Update:thanks to the developers for so promptly adding in a larger text option. Great game for any lovecraft fans..Version: 1.1

Great gameAmazing port of a really great game. Have been waiting for this game for a long time.Version: 1.0
