Star Traders: Frontiers for Negative User Reviews

Boring and wordyHoly text adventure Batman. The interminable dialogue ruins this game. Get to the point! If I wanted to read a sci-fi novel I’d go to the library..Version: 3.0.9

Some gripesPut save button in better place, please allow to be able to go back one screen from Load/Resume. Accidental misclick lost me 3 hours of play time and many levels and upgrades. What is up with ship battles, i board enemy ship kill the 4 crew members and demoralized their crew yet they continue to fight on. There should be a surrender option for them....it makes no sense, if you demoralized there crew they should surrender. Sorry got sick of these 2 bugs and ended up rage deleting the app..Version: 3.1.9

Fun but much better on a PCReally fun game, lots of complexity, challenge, and replay-ability. My main gripe with these kinds of games is that to play optimally, it requires some very tedious save/reloading to roll good crew, missions, etc. I’d give this a 4, maybe 5 star review if it weren’t for the User Interface (UI), which was clearly made for a PC with a keyboard+mouse and a large screen. Many buttons are super small and hard to click on, font sizes are super small, and accidentally selecting the wrong item due to an errant finger swipe, getting a phone call, etc. is a very real possibility. This last point can be especially brutal considering the permanent and brutal consequences of single actions in-game. Would have been nice if the developers had made more optimizations for the mobile app UI when they ported this over, but I get it, time is money and this a way for them to make some bonus cash from a game they already developed…I just wish it didn’t few that way..Version: 3.3.5

Good potential but big flaws hold it backThe game is deep - there’s clearly a lot of thought invested in this. But a few issues make it tedious: the fact that there is no true “save” is one of the most catastrophic developer choices I’ve ever seen. Due to bugs in engagement balancing, you can occasionally get rolled by another ship or crew. And the result? Perma-death or massive loss. This takes the fun out of the game. You can spend days building up a ship and crew only to see them destroyed due to a bug and no means of restoring it. Also, the crew fighting (land) engagements are well below the quality of the rest of the game and feel like early 90’s gaming mechanics..Version: 3.0.9

Great, but then vagueThe games starts out great and there are clear missions. You know where to go and what to do, but that changes fast. The missions start becoming vague. Your mission is to hunt a pirate, but your not sure where. You have steps in another mission, but the mission display doesn't give much info. Maybe you need to be a kid with nothing better to do than memorize the galaxy, but I just want a fun game to play. I like complex, but I'm spending hours doing nothing in the game now. Not very fun..Version: 2.6.5

Dry Dock UI + Sound Matainance + GlitchesThe Dry Dock Menu is not properly optimized and about half of the information is cut off. Please fix. I am using iPhone 7 Plus. Also there is a glitch with the sound effects. The music still plays but the sound effects cut out completely if you go to a different app, take a phone call, hit the home button and come back to the game etc. Lastly on the map preview screen in the new map generator, the game crashes when you long press on a quadrant. Pls fix all of this..Version: 3.1.9

No saved game sharingThe game it’s self is great but not being able to easily switch devices and continue on IOS products is a real game breaker for me. It logs into the game centre but doesn’t share saved files between IOS devices which is crazy every other game I own does this :’( I owned it on steam but got the app for ease of use … disappointed this was raised years ago but never fixed and iTunes makes it impossible to transfer the saved files across via iTunes these days so the work around in 2019 doesn’t work.Version: 3.2.33

GGNo tutorial on how to play. Have fun trying to figure it out.Version: 3.2.31

Too tiny to see 🥴This game can’t be played on an iPhone – not even a big iPhone – without a magnifying glass or continual zooming in and out, without inducing horrendous eye strain. Very complex UI with very many microscopic elements that need to be examined closely. This game should be for iPad only, and only the bigger iPads at that. I’ve managed to play a little of it and I have enjoyed it, but my eyes and my patience will not permit me to continue unless I invest in a bigger device or some kind of magnifier that I don’t have to hold in my hand..Version: 2.5.87

A good effort but lacks playabilityYou can see a large amount of development has gone into this game but the overall net effect is clumsy. The features I liked about this game was the ship to ship and group to group combat, the depth of options in character and ship development and the ability to interact with the galaxy on a variety of dimensions including trade. I also really liked that it had an upfront fee and didn’t seek to gouge the player for further cash. However, I got to the point after hours of play that the game became boring, the dialogue repetitive and channeling and the interfaces a little boring. Sometimes you really want a game to work and I definitely did hope that this would be a great game as it had potential, but I must conclude that it misses the mark. Others will have different experiences but I’ve played some great games that I’ve played for years but this unfortunately will be deleted..Version: 3.2.13

I tried, several timesThis game seemed like it was right up my alley but after a few months of on and off attempting to figure it out I gave up. It’s very confusing. You get too much too soon with little explanation about what’s going on. The learning curve is just overwhelmingly brutal. I’m 36 and have been playing video games since I could pick up a controller. This mess of a game just seems half finished. Half the game is just making sure you have enough fuel to get around. The UI is messy and jumbled, ship and crew combat is atrocious and boring. I love turn based games but this? Nah. They really need to rework the beginning of the game to ease the player into everything instead of throwing you into it. The way it is now it feels like you skipped the first quarter of the game. It’s too late for me to get a refund so just be warned. This is not an easy game to play. Heck it’s not even a hard game to play. It’s a brutal game to play and not in a fun or challenging way..Version: 3.0.37

Simple and kind of boringI really don’t get the 5 starers. This game is in the end rather simple and boring. The story is quite decent, so if you’re after a 2D text based story set in space, with small text even on an Xs Max screen, then sure, consider this. After the story, the rest of the “gameplay” is very, very light; Ship combat is just rounds of select your weapons and select one skill to use and press end turn and watch it play out. Crew combat is kind of similar. Just super basic. Nothing at all is very specific or thought provoking in the combat. The story just has you go about from check point to check point with some story filler in between for reason. These checkpoints are “planets” which might sound interesting but it’s just the same menu screen at each with the same options at every one, sometimes full options available, some times less options due to your reputation with that factions planet.......... How interesting. Jump to a planet, press the buttons to fill up your: Fuel, hull health, crew health, moral, recruit some new crew, and maybe upgrade your ship if you’ve gathered the $. For an idea. Halcyon 6 I find is a kind of ok space sim/combat game. Well Halcyon 6 has way more fleshed out combat, and essentially has a similar fetch quest mission system without the faffle of a “story” in tiny small text. And I’m bored thinking about this so I’ll end here. But honestly I don’t know who 5 stars this. I mean lol at the dead that said “probably the best 4K game on mobile right now”. (Which I think that reviewer means to say 4X, not 4K). I mean, no, just no. Like, what about Civ VI!? Or even just Civ Rev 2! Heck, Halcyon 6 is much better like I already outlined. 2 stars from me because I see these guys update the game. Though that update really I think is just expansion of end game story stuff. Nothing to actually increase the (lack of) gameplay depth here..Version: 3.1.3

Kind of pointlessTried numerous times to find a better ship than the one you begin with (guardian interceptor) even the 1.3 million credit ship, but they are still vastly inferior to the interceptor. So what is the point?.Version: 2.4.87

Tried to enjoy, but the RNG system killed it (for me)I learned the game on the easier difficulties, decided to start trying out the harder difficulties so its not as boring and the arbitrary nature of the RNG system ruined it for me. Hyperspace jump nav check fails (causing massive fuel loss), losing in combat (despite being twice the level and outclassing other ship), being given missions I couldn’t complete, being constantly attacked by ships (despite investing in stealth)… the list goes on. I like a challenging game, not being “game overed” repeatedly by things outside of my control. The game is ok otherwise, lots of variety, things to do, customization, and more. Story is flat, art is sub-par..Version: 3.2.5

Unlock system utterly ruins gameI just wanted to play a space marine, a couple of games got me to grips with the game, then I discovered all the ships that looked good or were different in layout to enable different styles of play were locked behind absurd challenges. 10 hours I spent on one, only to have one mission fail and their not so useful FTL-alike / Rogue-alike saving screw me - because you have to finish 50 flawlessly. This wouldn’t be bad if you could turn it off. You can’t. The devs won’t, they apologise and bask in their fans telling them how nuanced it is and how we don’t understand. I can’t believe I’m calling a came ablist, but it is - it bounces hard into my ADHD twists it, then spits it out, and the developers won’t fix that. I’m going to see if there’s anything remotely close, if so this is getting returned so fast it’ll void SSD cells..Version: 3.2.25

I Tried. I Really Did.I wanted so badly to enjoy this game. I’m not a graphics snob. I’m deeply versed in SRPGs, have been gaming over 35 years. I didn’t have an issue with the lack of hand-holding; that’s usually a gift to me, not having to play through a vapid tutorial. No, I was disappointed to find this game tedious and boring. I gave it a good 10 hours of my time, paid attention & tried to invest in the story. Not once did it feel like anything more than a resource-managing tapper, and not even a compelling one of those. I can see the effort put forth here, which I appreciate, and that’s the only reason this didn’t get one star. Next outing maybe bring someone in to punch up the story a little, an objective voice that’ll inform you when you’ve ventured over into tedium..Version: 2.4.89

Cool gamePlz make text bigger I have a iPhone 10 and it’s trashing the game as I’m skipping because I can’t read the text,so plz plz make bigger would b a five star if bigger thanks.Version: 3.0.61

Not a sandboxIt is not a sandbox and the costs of repairs and refuelling make it nearly impossible to build up any money without having to do an insane amount of grinding and completing repetitive and remedial missions.Version: 2.4.89
