PlantSnap - identify plants for Negative User Reviews

Hit and miss!Incorrect identification on many plants. Party due to individual users uploading more than one pic of similar flowers. It all gets lumped under one title, which is very misleading for beginners. Luckily, I’m not and can tell the difference! App does NOT give Individual plant advice on how to care for it. Its the exact same write up, general info about plant keeping. Tells you to consider the sun, doesn’t tell you what that plant prefers. Tells you to consider frost hardiness, but doesn’t tell you that plant’s rating! Allows members to upload images of their view? Why? And no Captain if what type of plant they are showing.. and no option from the app to then try and identify what it is. Maybe ask members to give the name/ common name if they know what it is, for example field mushroom, or silver birch tree? Food for thought..Version: 5.00.12

Different resultsSometimes the app is right on, like identifying flowers, usually. But quite often snaps of leaves show a different plant if I take more than a couple identifying photos! I've gotten 3 different descriptions from 3 different snaps of the same plant! I'll take a few more photos when the description looks nothing like the actual plant. Hope more versions will correct this. Just moved to a different area with plants I'm not familiar with. Luckily it's only a mild curiosity, not lifesaving information I need! Otherwise, keep up the good work. I like using the app..Version: 5.01.06

Over sold with bugsPeople give me house plants. Some arrive identified, some I can identify, and some are mysteries. I was hoping to solve the mysteries. I went online and read reviews of plant ID apps, and this one sounded like it was the right one with 600,000 species, and an easy interface. That wasn’t my experience. I started with some common succulents. Unfortunately the app failed miserably. So, I gave it something easy. Success! It correctly identified aloe. Not really a victory. So, I moved on to more tropical plants. The app did great, and was able to identify all of them with a little effort. A big issue is that the app appears to crash every time I decline an identification, and occasionally when I save an identification. To keep it working I had to force close the app every time and launch it again. Then, the lawn care ad that is disguised as more information on the photographed plant was very annoying. The monthly subscription is pushed fairly hard. I was browsing the features of the app, and almost gave up because of how often I was redirected to a page to sign up for premium service. I hadn’t even figured out the free app, and I was irritated by the premium upgrade. I did identify a mystery plant that has eluded identification for 17 years, a great success. Yet, the app still failed to meet my expectations..Version: 4.00.3

Very disappointed! Failed on the first try.I lost the plant tag from some Verbena that I bought and decided to give this a try. I was sad to see that I was given just 7 days to try out the app before being charged a YEARLY SUBSCRIPTION OF $20 after the free period. This was too high. Still, I thought it might be worth it for one year if I could walk around my property and identify all the plants and trees around me. I was wrong. I took a good pic of the Verbena and it thought it was something else. Then I tried it on some Big Root Geranium and it couldn’t get that either. A couple more tries with failures later, I terminated my subscription and deleted the app. This was worthless..Version: 6.0.3

Mis-identifies plants at least 50% of the timeI paid for the subscription, but sadly this app is almost useless for me. It incorrectly identifies so many plants. Telling me plants are highly toxic when in fact they aren’t. It is so disappointing. I’ve taken clear well defined photographs and in all but 3 cases out of 10 it incorrectly identified. Disappointing..Version: 5.01.08

Totally Fraudulent AppBeware. Completely fraudulent. The app claimed to offer a 7 day free trial but I have been charged for a yearly subscription. Are you kidding me. Blatantly fraudulent. Will be reporting to Apple and requesting a full refund. Avoid. UPDATE TO MY REVIEW AFTER DEVELOPER RESPONSE: The Developer completely sidestepped my issue. This further confirms that their approach is deceptive and fraudulent. Buyer’s beware. If you look at my review I never commented that you couldn’t use the App without the subscription which by the way is pretty useless as everything you need to do asks you to sign up. No. My point was that I checked the button for the free trial which in an honest App means that you are charged if you continue beyond the free trial period or do not cancel before the trial ends. In my case I opted for the free trial and was immediately charged a whopping 19 pounds. Thankfully I contacted Apple support and was issued a refund. Bear in mind the 19 pounds immediately went out of Bank and I had to wait a week for the refund to process. Not to mention the results are so poor. A google image search yields better or similar results..Version: 3.00.23

Not AccurateI used up all my free attempts and the suggestions it gave after taking photos were obviously wrong. I’m deleting this app. It couldn’t identify my plant..Version: 6.1.1

RubbishI down loaded this app because i had some mixed seeds that i planted last year and wanted to know what was actually popping up in my beds. I tried the app on the plants that i actually have labelled and only 1 in 12 were correct. The pictures coming up didnt even look like the plant i had snapped. I cant give it more than 1 star as there are too many other negatives about the app. If it was more accurate with identifying the plants i would of given it a higher rating and probably paid..Version: 3.00.23

Don’t waste money on Pro versionAt times PlantSnap accurately identifies plants, especially “easy” ones. In my experience, though, it gets it right only half the time. I know this because it has misidentified plants I already knew and other times it was clear from leaf or flower structure or color that the app was in error. This is also true of other plant apps. My biggest complaint is this: I paid for Pro and got nothing for it. I bought it on my iPhone phone but it wouldn’t upgrade on my iPad. I sent in several pictures to their experts for identification and not once got a response. I wrote to them 3 times and received nothing but an automated response. They promise good service and I got no service. Bad news! If you want the app, take the free version but keep in mind that accuracy is spotty..Version: 4.00.9

Doesn’t workI gave the app 2 different photos of the same tree and it gave me 2 different names.🤦🏼‍♀️.Version: 5.01.08

Subscription activated still being promptedWhen you goto subscription there is three levels all named premium .. and i have an active subscription and still being prompted.Version: 5.01.08

Can’t identify trees & they sell your infoI tried multiple times to identify a tree taking photos of the leaves, and each time it gave different wrong answers for the same tree, even using the same photo. Tried following the video tutorials and the written instructions, and it didn’t work. Next, I signed in using my email, and I have all of a sudden been getting random spam emails that I was not getting before today, and it started within an hour of first signing interior this app, so they apparently sell your email right away. Not happy with this app, and warn you not to give away your information like this. There is enough junk email out there, without needed no to get more just to try to identify one or two trees..Version: 3.00.24

Wrong plantsI tried it on some plants I didn’t know and it showed me a whole different plant that didn’t look like it at all and when I tried it on mint it said it was tabacco..Version: 3.00.11

Not very usefulThe app hasn’t been able to accurately identify 90% of the plant photos I’ve tried. No matter how close up I take the photos of the flowers and leaves it rarely seems to identify the correct plant, as what identifies will look completely different and usually is not found in South Africa where I live. Maybe it’s because we have so many plants that are completely unique to our country (Table Mountain National Park has more species of flora than the whole of Europe) and they just haven’t really loaded many South African plants on the app. I hike a lot and often see so many beautiful plants and flowers and wonder what they are so was really hoping this app would be useful but it’s not..Version: 3.00.17

Beware of fraudulent practiceI got the app to try it out. I was willing to subscribe but wanted to see if it would work for my purposes first, so I initially used just the free features. When I ran out of my daily allotment of snaps, it offered 5 additional snaps for a price or 3 additional snaps in exchange for watching ads. I chose the ads. After watching, it still said I was out of snaps and made me the same offer. I watched their ads four times and never received additional snaps. This app is enticing people to watch ads and receiving ad revenue without providing the promised benefit. That amounts to fraud in my book. For that alone they deserve no stars, but I did give two stars since it seemed to work okay during my limited trial..Version: 5.01.08

SPAM warningAs soon as I signed up and registered with this app I immediately and instantly started getting lots of spam into my email! Deleted my account!.Version: 2.01.14

Ok if you don’t care about your privacyForces you to sign up (yep a plant app) then constantly asking for access to location, notifications, add Siri badges and photos library. Why are any of these needed when your taking a picture through the app. I get camera access. I tried this on various plants, got it correct about 50% of the time. T&Cs are horrific, collect data on webpages visited, cookies, third party monitoring...app deleted..Version: 2.02.01

Didn’t workI scanned the same plant 4 times and got a different answer each time, none of which were correct, and this was a Monkey Leaf, so quite an obvious leaf type. Getting 5 snaps a day and paying 89p for additional 5 is fair, most of these apps require yearly subscriptions, so this is ideal for the casual user. A lot of time and effort goes into developing and maintaining apps, so I wouldn’t expect free, however, I would expect it to work!.Version: 5.01.06

Pathetic appIt’s a pathetic app, I’m getting 4 different names to the same plant with different photos. Can’t be worse than this. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this as its an absolute waste of time..Version: 4.00.16

Why are you data mining?Thought this app was about plants … not my personal information. Very Disappointed in You!.Version: 5.01.17

Tricked into 1 yearI clicked in for a 7 day trial and somehow was changed for a full year. Now I am told I am ineligible for a refund with no reason. Seems like a cool app but I wanted a trial not a year..Version: 6.0.2

My experienceNot always accurate😔 Tagged some plants for ID. App said they’d be sent to their botanists for ID back in early April - haven’t had a response. Paid for the upgrade - disappointed with service!.Version: 5.00.06

MisleadingI’ve just downloaded this app as I read you can have 5 free snaps a day without charge. There’s no option for this and it looks like I’ve subscribed for £2.99 a month. I took one photo of a plant and got a totally inaccurate description. It stated the plant has berries and is poisonous, but I have seen it flower and it never has berries. I will be deleting the app and cancelling any payments..Version: 5.01.03

UpdateI bought the app for the entire year because I fell in love with the way it used to be. After this update I do not enjoy using it at all before I was able to scan a plant and it pulled it up now I have to take multiple pictures of the plant because it’s not registering, I used to love how once I scan the picture it brought up a paragraph about the plant the species of the plant now the different sections are making this interface a little confusing and. I used to love using the app on my walks because it made it enjoyable how simple and fast it was now with this new complex update I honestly feel like it was very unnecessary because you guys had a beautiful clean well organized app why fix what wasn’t broken.? I wish there was a way I could revert it back to what I actually paid for..Version: 5.01.02

Just some trouble but still helpful!!I downloaded this app because I brought home a handful of plants that didn’t have proper identification cards or “how to care for” slips like there usually do when you buy them at the garden center, and yes i will admit that this app helped me identify one of the mystery plants and gave me relatively good info and care tips but I just noticed when trying to identify the other plants they always pop up as something completely different (Ex: One plant is just grows basic oval shaped leaves and has no budding that would indicate flower or fruit growth- but when going through the app its labeled as a type of flower a succulent and even a Venus Flytrap) I know it’s difficult to be able to identify one simple plants when there is literally billions of plant species but some of the options just didn’t tie up with the actual plant- maybe something is bugging out with the camera? Maybe the app just needs a little run through and tune up! Other than that I think this app can be very helpful when you need to identify some plants!.Version: 5.00.08

Unfortunately it just couldn’t identifyAfter it got it wrong about a half dozen times I started thinking I had to be doing something wrong. Each time I did at the very least 4-5 different angle photos and still it wasn’t pull pictures that even resembled the plant. So I took it to one of the plants I have the little tag from the store still on and it couldn’t get it correct either. The app did seem to have a lot of helpful features and info once you know but without an identifier that works it doesn’t help..Version: 5.00.08

Not payingNot signing up for a trial when none of these plan apps can even get it the right identification..Version: 6.0.5

Very inaccurateI have attempted to use this on many occasions and have found the accuracy to be very poor. Sometimes the correct plant comes way down the list and at other times you have to pretty much already know what the plant is in order to be able to identify it. Despite having clear snaps of leaves and flowers of a common uk plant, the app failed to correctly identify it..Version: 5.00.07

Totally offI tried to get this app to identify 5 different plants, even though I knew what they were. This app got them all WRONG!!! UPDATE: I was sent an email with developer response to my review, saying that "tens of millions of people use PlantSnap every day with great success" & "to frame the photo properly" & "Do you want to update your review?" So this is my update. I have used 2 other plant identifier apps, taking snapshots all in the same way. This app was the only one that identifies incorrectly. The other 2 apps (Plant Identify & Picture This) were exactly correct on the identification of the plant (on 5 different plants). Because I already knew what the plants were. And that was just a test on the accuracy of the apps. I took the same exact snapshot for each app. Maybe this app should be updated in order to work better?.Version: 3.00.23

Very Poor ResultsI have tried the app but felt disappointed with it. I tried 6 very common indoor plants and it didn’t recognise any of them. I won’t be using this one..Version: 2.02.01

Does not workI paid for this app before reading previous reviews, my big mistake! This app will not properly ID any common plant I’ve photographed. Not even close. How do I cancel my subscription? In order to send in this review I have to choose a nickname, currently tried 20 times but all are apparently taken?.Version: 5.01.06

AWFUL APP / not accurate at allSo I took a photo of 10 plants (5 per day) and ALL (no joke) were wrong. The app kept mentioning plants from Asia or Africa. Clearly plants not found in Canada. Even my Tomato plants were incorrectly identified. Then I use the PictureThis app and perfect analysis, no errors. How can this app get Elms and Aspens mixed up with exotic plants from tropical Asia or Africa or Brazil. Awful app. Any good reviews are clearly paid or people are fooled by its analysis “ohhh… this isn’t a weed? but an exotic plant from Brazil!?! I guess I shouldn’t get rid of it!” Don’t download this junk!.Version: 6.0.4

Grounds the limitAlthough I am pleased with the design of this app only getting like four snaps before I have to wait eight hours to get more is absurd. I mean I shouldn’t have to pay just to get unlimited snaps. Then what’s the point of the app? Also, of course I don’t expect the app to be 100% accurate 100% of the time, but I took a snap of my cilantro and it said it was a green snowdrop or a banana tree (bananas are herbs but I’ll put that aside). What? First of all, those two have nothing in common other than they are both plants. Second of all, it’s clearly a coriandrum (cilantro)! So I really hope the developers fix that or I’m getting a new, better app to find plants. Edit: Ok, first of all, I accidentally snapped my tv when I meant to do it on a plant next to it and I was hoping the app would say that there was no plant identified or whatnot, but it said it was a Tropicana rose. Uhh, I think not. So that was pretty dumb. Anyway, things are pretty much the same with this app I still use it every now and then but I don’t exactly like it..Version: 2.01.20

Waste of moneyI want a refund. This app is a joke. Took three pictures of the same plant and got three entirely different answers. Took a picture of a lilac in bloom and it was identified as dianthus. Don’t waste you money.Version: 5.01.08

Better than nothing, I guessI installed this app because I couldn't find a way to identify a plant that was given to me by Googling it. It did eventually work--the mystery plant is called diffenbachia--but it took multiple attempts to get that far, and the app incessantly reminded me all the while that I only have a limited number of free snaps before I would have to pay. The app was completely unable to identify my bamboo. I can't give it one star, because it works (eventually), but I can't justify any more than two because of all the bloat (that useless tutorial did not help me take better photos and was a complete waste of time) and the frustration in getting the pictures taken successfully. There's something very irritating about the app circling leaves, inviting me to explore them, returning zero relevant results, and then ticking down my remaining number of free pictures, all before I've pressed the picture button..Version: 2.02.06

Not identifying correctlyThe app is fairly intuitive and easy to use. I find the limit on the number of pictures you can take on the free app super obnoxious since it’s full of ads and that is generally where apps differ between free and premium. But the biggest issues is that it is not identifying trees correctly. For many of them, the options listed would have very little similarities (other than having green leaves). And then a pop up would appear suggesting you look at the tutorials, which I did - they were, essentially, useless. Anyone using the app to the point where that pop up would have appeared would have already grasped the fundamentals shown in the tutorial videos. Punchline: really glad I didn’t pay for the premium app..Version: 2.01.25

Awkward appUsing my iPhone 6, I have taken 10 pics of the weed in my garden. I’ve taken from all different angles to include the leaves, flowers, and stalk, as well as individuals of each. I’ve received eight different identifications, with rapeseed being the most common. It is none of the options I was given, with rapeseed being the least likely of the possibilities. The only commonality between all identifications is that the petals of the blooms are yellow. I followed the annoying instructions that cover most of the screen and what I am trying to photograph, as well as the tutorial. If you don’t mind being completely misinformed, this is the app for you. If you are in fact looking for solid identifications, I recommend looking elsewhere..Version: 2.02.04

Not accurateI raved about this app when I first got it, and got many other people to start using it. With that being said, the inaccuracy of this app is appalling. I travel a lot for work, and love learning about local flora for my own knowledge. It was able to find the basics usually, but so can google. Out of the last 15 times I’ve used this app, the suggestions it gave me for the plants I took a picture of were not even remotely close to what the actual plant was, even on obvious plants which I knew the identity of. Very disappointing for something you pay for weekly/monthly. I was by testing other apps in the hopes that they actually can do what is advertised. Note, I almost never leave negative reviews on anything, but this one frustrated me as you pay for quality, and receive nothing of the sort..Version: 5.01.07

Plant Snap ReviewThis sounds brilliant so I downloaded the app. First attempt was with a plant I know and love well, just to get a feel for the app. Unfortunately it identified a bog standard pink and purple fuschia as something entirely different and my second attempt at the same plant brought up adverts for artificial turf experts. I can’t recommend this app and am very disappointed after reading the recommendations from other people.Version: 2.01.17

It's not freeYou get a free 1 week trial with a subscription charge after that. If you don't select subscribe and link the app to your wallet it lets you do nothing! Don't see any option the Developer pointed out that is free with adds- check your app as either you are not correct or the app has a defect. I used the free version in the past with adds and it worked fine - you have now changed the app to generate subscriptions. If there is a free version with adds tell everyone how to access it and not just tell everyone a free version exhausts. The tooth fairy exists also because I say so!.Version: 6.1.4

Why do you need to sign up?!Deleted immediately, as it isn’t possible to use this app without first signing up. What is that all about? Why should users have to sign up just to use a plant identification app? Sorry, but there are other apps available which allow you to install and use immediately without giving your personal details. Also, having read other less than positive reviews, it seems to me that you cannot take negative feedback constructively. One reviewer in particular being referred to as “foolish” and sarcastically being offered a job for stating what is actually quite correct. It IS possible to use an app like this without giving access to photos! Any business owner knows that customer feedback, even if it may be negative on some way, is useful as it allows you to consider options. One thing that is an absolute no-no is to make fun or customers and take the micky out of them. I feel your app is doomed to failure as you are unwilling to accept criticism which could help you make changes which would make it more user-friendly. Plant ID apps are ten-a-penny, with some of the best ones completely free (I don’t mind small adverts in the bottom of the screen) and without having to sign up. All in all, a mediocre app no better than any other, but arrogance from the owners puts it firmly in the Could Do Better category. Bye..Version: 2.02.06

Too in my face!I don’t enjoy giving negative reviews but I have to. This app is just SO needy!! Accept this. Agree to that. Take this and that and those onboard. And all this nonsense is before you’ve even got started. I don’t just mean all the normal and acceptable (or not) requests to access your camera etc. They want your full name FFS. And every click you make they are watching you, constantly getting in your face and asking or promoting more and more. I just wanted a gentle walk on the beach identifying some plants. I showed the app rock samphire and it was misidentified. Same with a few other plants. This app is not just annoying and inaccurate but from a foraging point of view it is actually dangerous to the point of life threatening!.Version: 3.00.09

BEWARE, DO NOT ACCEPT THE 3 DAY TRIALIf you accept the 3 day trial, it locks you into one year subscription..Version: 6.1.1

Don’t bother it’s uselessHave used this app as a professional many times, it’s wrong on 9/10 identifications. Only useful for the most basic plants or to get an idea of the species of basic plants. Never any feedback on plants you ask to be identified. It’s pathetic, don’t bother..Version: 4.00.3

Wouldn’t recommendNothing loads. Not impressed..Version: 6.0.2

Couldn’t identify a treeI tried this app to identify a tree in my front yard. Took 2 pictures. First problem, you have to step way back to get the tree to fit in the square. Then when I did get it, it called the tree a rhododendron. I took a second photo, different angle. This time a Tropicana rose. I bet it works ok for plants and shrubs but does not seem to work on a tree..Version: 5.01.08

I had my hopes up. . . . .I live in the Midwest and have been wanting to begin a photographic project to catalog and identify wildflowers, trees, bushes, etc. around my rural property. I am no botanist, so need help in plant identification. My landscaping plants have come from a local nursery, so I have nothing exotic. Well, I saw this app and was very excited. It was just what I was looking for, plant ID and the ability to receive more information on each plant. Well, I have tried it on approximately 25 plants. It has identified TWO correctly. It identified my recently-purchased birch trees as POISON IVY! My sister-in-law is quite knowledgeable and has helped me. And, of course, I know what I have purchased from the local nurseries, so I am confident in saying that the app results have not been accurate. In most cases, the suggestions have not even a faint resemblance to the actual plant! And it’s not the quality of the photos!!! They are crystal clear. The app has been a total disappointment. I don’t know how others are having such success. I, for one, find it useless..Version: 2.02.03

Great at identifying; so-so at sharingAfter hours of struggling to post and share my photos, I have come to the conclusion that the popularity of this application is centered on its ability to identify quickly most plants. Once identified, my attempts to share the photographs, add their scientific names and a few sentences to provide context have ended in complete frustration. The process is completely non-intuitive. The ‘help’ function is superficial. I guess what I’m trying to explain is my sense that this app is for my use, not for sharing the information I have discovered through its front-end..Version: 4.00.6

Awful - take your money and won’t talk to youI tried the app for free and it didn’t work well for what I tried to identify so I didn’t wish to continue. Then I was charged for a year - I wrote to them straight away to say I did not want the app and hadn’t used it and requested a refund. ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE. There must be so many people who accidentally subscribe thinking it’s free but not realising you have to cancel the app in the first 7 days. Surely there are some consumer rights being broken here if they don’t respond or refund?.Version: 6.0.2

DisappointedTold me I had grape vines when it was actually an Eastern Poplar Tree.Version: 5.01.08

Don’t waste your moneyHad three plants to identify, all the same plant. Couldn’t wait to use this app to identify the plants my kiddos planted and that we all forgot what they were. This app ended up being such a let down. It kept matching my plant image with plants that didn’t look anything like it. As a photographer, I know how to take photos and understood exactly what the app needed to identify the plant. I paid to upgrade so I could submit the photo to the professionals to identify it and still haven’t heard back - it’s been over a month. What a waste of money. I asked a neighbor with a little more plant knowledge than I had, which isn’t much and he knew instantly what it was. I confirmed his guess with google in less than 2 minutes. Cancelled my monthly subscription and can’t help but feel taken a bit..Version: 3.00.24

Not helpful for caring for plantsAm I missing something...? It took me a while to identify my first plant. It would be nice if each suggested plant had several pictures, one of a leaf, then one in full bloom or in a pot, instead of just a close-up of one leaf. I actually ended up googling to find my plant. I want to use this to care for my plants but under planting and watering instructions it says the same thing for each plant. Things like, “Consider if they will receive enough sunlight and moisture, is there space for them to grow to their full size, what type of soil do you have and how exposed it will be to the elements?” It doesn’t actually tell you what kind of soil the particular plant you have should have. I don’t get how this is helpful..Version: 5.01.08

GarbageI have a receipt from Apple that says that I paid for it. Very unfriendly to use. I hate signing to use it. So I’m deleting it. And the only times I tried it, the results were wrong. Can I give it zero stars?.Version: 2.02.04

Design is all over the place. Creepy permissions requested too. This app looks like it was made by about eight different teams..Version: 3.00.11

Like every REAL reviewThere’s no way this app has over 4 star rating, from real people! I took 4 different pictures of my plant, and got 4 different results- each result gave me multiple options of what type of plant I have.. they were all wrong! That’s about 20 different wrong kinds! Don’t install.Version: 5.01.08

Poor accuracyThere is not very good accuracy on this app. Even in the example photos for search results, there are some pictures included which are clearly a different type of plant. For example pictures of blackberry as examples of a thimbleberry. I encountered this on several different plant example picture sets. One way they could improve results is to select a latitude and longitude for where a picture was located and use that to weight the results. For example reduce the probability that a plant pictured in Oregon is one that is native to a tropical region like Hawaii. Another way to improve is to allow users to set the rough size of the plant: tree, bush, plant, ground cover. I took a picture of a part of a tree to get closer up detail on its flowers and leaves and it was identified as a ground cover. Also the recommendations about growing the plant are not specialized and say: check the light requirements of the plant. Instead of telling you its light requirements..Version: 5.00.07

UselessCan't do anything without registration. Very interesting to hear that customer support considers it normal to call their customer "foolish". Regardless, their response has no connection to reality as whatever the database size is, it always could be downloaded even in small parts without registration. Wikipedia contains terabytes of data, but it doesn't ever ask for your email for you to be able to read their articles. Same here, PlantSnap could always make parts of their database downloadable or accessible without registration as all other normal apps do, but they try to invent excuses to mine your personal data. While customer support says this protects their servers from hackers, this is completely unconvincing. The iPhone machine learning hardware is powerful enough to do all image recognition locally without any servers. Don't trust apps that steal your photos and camera access to mine your data!.Version: 2.02.04

Not free insists on payment info before 1 week free trialCan’t get to the bit where you can take 5 snaps a day or view ads. The only option is to sign up for 1 week free trial which requires payment info. You can cancel any time but I am not happy giving payment info for something I haven’t tried. There is no way past the sign up screen.Version: 6.0.7

Paid for Premium but Don’t Have ItUpdate: Still do not have access to premium version. Sent another email and still no response from developer (other than their auto “canned” email reply). Their customer service sucks, to say the least! Do not download this app. I paid an annual fee for the premium version in June 2021 and the app says that I have the premium version however, I still have advertisements and am limited to 5 photos. I’ve sent numerous messages to Plantsnap. All I get is an automated reply with no followup to actually solve the issue!.Version: 5.00.12

Really don’t like the greedy business modelIt’s a free download, but that’s it. You can’t do anything without signing for a ridiculously expensive subscription (albeit with 7 days free) and the app STILL subjects you to advertising..Version: 5.01.18

Free version is limited to 5 photos per dayIt identified 3 out of 5 plants From my back yard. I’m not that impressed, but will try it again in a year or so. Hopefully it gets better..Version: 2.01.15

Waste of Money!!!First I accidentally hit the $39 option to buy this instead of the 7 day trial option. Ok, figured it’d probably be worth it in the end so I accepted my mistake. A few days later I had the chance to chill in nature so opened the app for the first time. Recognized my first mushroom so I was excited. Tried identifying several more species of plant & mushroom to NO AVAIL!!! Error messages kept appearing saying can’t identify, then eventually it says I must further unlock the app to take more than 5 snaps per day. How in the heck are you charging ppl $40 then addition $10 for ad free version???!!!!! The lifetime $39 should include ad free allowing unlimited photo snaps!!! I sure wish I could get a dang refund!!!!! This app is a rip off and needs to be reported….. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GET A BETTER PERFORMING PLANT APP FOR LESS MONEY!!!!! I am extremely upset with this entire ordeal, ugh!!!!!.Version: 5.01.08

It’s never accurateThis app is almost never right and always says it’s some tropical plant. I feel like it should suggest more plants that grow up north and not only tropical ones. Sometimes the answers are so wrong it’s ridiculous. I’m very disappointed in this app and it has so many good reviews I don’t understand how all these people are having good experiences with this app when I’m getting the complete opposite. I think they should change it so it’s not always so rare and or tropical. This app is not for people who live up north where we don’t have all these fancy things. Based on the reviews this app did not lead up to my expectations. I’m just overall very disappointed..Version: 5.01.06

WorthlessDownloaded this app and paid for premium. Asked it to identify three simple plants on my front porch in northern New England. It identified all three as South American shrubs. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Don’t waste your money. Update: PlantSnap contacted me tonight to tell me the issue was my fault, and I should contact their customer support to get trained on how to frame the picture. Ironically in the meantime I downloaded Picture This (another plant ID app) and took pictures of the multiple plants in my yard. Picture This got the plants correct 6 for 6 including the three I had previously tried with PlantSnap. Apparently I can frame pictures just fine. Based on the condescending customer service response I’d give this a zero star if I could. BTW - I asked for a refund of my premium payment but so far they’re ignoring that request..Version: 4.00.3

BeateAmazing app! But there’s just 2 problems. I wish you had the option to turn on or off friend requests. The second issue is that there’s this one user that you might want to look into. Her name is Beate, from Germany and her profile is a picture of her in front of a candle or a candle next to her. She’s just really critical and seems like she’s mad that she doesn’t get enough likes on posts. Other than that, I’d love the way you took the time to read this like how most people wouldn’t. But if you could tell Beate to just accept my friend request that would be very great. And she just ignores the request I’ve tried it like 5 times already and am still trying but she just well refuses to accept the request requested. Thanks..Version: 5.01.06

Just garbageDidn't think it would be any good but thought maybe I'd give it a shot. I had the app 5 minutes before deleting it and you will too but you've just read this and probably a few other reviews so really you've wasted 5 minutes on them already so just don't download it. It's garbage. There's no other way to put it :).Version: 2.01.25

UnreliableWorked badly for me. I don’t know why it asked for your full name? I have been testing out apps that can tell me what my plants are. Tested on the plants I know the name of and came up with a completely different exotic plant..Version: 3.00.10

It’s okI understand apps need to make money but to limit the amount of photos I can take a day because I want the free version is ridiculous. The are tons of ads on the free version aswell so for them to bug you with ads and still limit the amount of pics makes this app pointless to me, it’s a good app but I’m not using it anymore.Version: 3.00.01

On a rating of 0 to 10, 0 being the worst I’ve ever seen, this gets a big fat zero!If I ever want to get my money back for anything this would definitely be it!! Anything I have put in to identify it is giving me way off-track stuff that has nothing to do with this kind of plant or any kind of plant that I put on here and doesn’t even look like it!! Very disappointed and a waste of money. I will definitely be changing my credit card number so they cannot charge me when the year is up!I’m gonna have to go back to the one that I used before because it was accurate most of the time and, by golly, I am not going to shop around ever again!.Version: 5.01.06

Doesn’t recognise the majority of plantsDoesn’t recognise most plants - waste of space.Version: 5.01.08

Don’t waste your timeI was excited to see an app to detect plants and identify them appropriately. Now, I understand the challenges in designing the algorithms to correctly identify shapes of the foliage, leaf pattern, veins, etc, which is why it provides a list of similar plants. Cool, I can sort through the list. The problems: 1. This app has never been able to detect any plants aside from those that are obvious. I wouldn’t waste my money on upgrading based on how terribly the app functions. 2. The free version is a joke, full of ads and restrictions - don’t waste your time. 3. When attempting to use the app today, it was only full of errors and could not detect the plant. Once the list showed up, there were no photos or additional information on the plants and I had to resort to Google to try to find photos and info of the plants on the list. 4. App saves all images to my photos. I’m assuming there’s a setting to prevent this but not going to waste any more time on this app. I don’t want every single photo saved to my phone. Ask me if I want to save the photo instead of automatically saving it. 5. An app like this should have capability for self-learning so every user helps eventually add new plants to the database. I’ve given this app the benefit of the doubt for quite a few months and it hasn’t improved even a bit. If anything, it’s gotten worse. Deleting the app. Great idea, poor execution..Version: 2.02.04

So frustrating -95% of time wrongThe concept is great but the results for Australian plants are abysmally wrong. I have to search through my Sydney plant book to identify correctly so not sure what I paid for. Is it just because of where I am living?.Version: 3.00.23

Less useful post-updateThe new app has lots of social stuff I don’t care about. When you try to identify a plant it now only returns one photo of its suggestion so it’s much harder to find the correct one..Version: 6.0.5

Wanted to love itI really wanted to love this app. I did a lot of research comparing plant identification apps and it seemed to have the best reviews. I’m starting a clinical herbalism course and wanted a fast way to easily identify common plants. I have submitted many over the last month+ to have one of the experts identify (because nothing close to it showed up in the results from the photo). I’ve also sent at least one support request asking for help to get the app to be more accurate and try to find out how to get experts to respond to the requests to help identify and have not received a response. So as hopeful as I was (even recommending it to people 1 day after purchasing), I can say that I would no longer recommend and that I am disappointed in the support/responsiveness and ability to corrected identify a plant. I’ve also watched the tutorial videos to give tips on how to take photos, but it didn’t change my results. Hope others have better experiences than me. If support people read this, could you make a request or explain to me why experts aren’t responding to my questions? Thank you!.Version: 2.02.06

Doesn't seem accurate so farI'm going to continue to use this and reserve final judgment until later. However, at least half of the suggested identifications do not appear correct to me. And, this includes both the primary recommendations and all of the alternates. Unfortunately, since I am relying on the app to identify the plants for me, I can't be 100% sure that what I am assessing as incorrect are not just normal variations in the plant appearance. I certainly understand the limitations of image-recognition technology and do not fault the app developers for my experience so far. Perhaps I am just snapping rather obscure plants. In any event, I will return later to update this review and my rating if my ongoing experience warrants that..Version: 3.00.30

Far from accurateFar from accurate.Version: 3.00.20

Not accurateThis used to work well years ago, now it gives completely bogus results, something which I assume is a weed is identified as a lily (it looks nothing alike) and another weed that looks vaguely similar to a fern is identified as some plant only in New Zealand, which considering is on the other side of the world is about as inaccurate as you can get..Version: 5.01.08

Used to be greatI used to enjoy this app as it would identify plants and explain how to care for them in the state they were in. Now anytime I try to use the augmented reality it just identifies there’s a leaf but doesn’t say the plant name or how to care for it. Probably going to cancel the subscription and delete app.Version: 5.01.06

Not free, reasonably accurateIt’s misleading to say the App is free. It permits 5 snaps before you have to pay or wait a day to reset 5 free snaps. 5 is woefully inadequate for (my) plant identification purposes as I wanted to use it at garden centres and at professional gardens (ie multiple pictures). The App suggests you can opt to play adverts every three snaps as an alternative. That function worked once and then stopped working. In any event, who wants to take three quick pics and then have to stop in the place you are, watch a 25 second ad before being able to snap some more? Not me. I appreciate people want to monetise Apps. But the conditions attached to this App fatally undermine its use. Ill continue to look for a more user-friendly plant identification App. As to accuracy, it was reasonable: some right, some wrong..Version: 2.01.21

So crappyWorst app ever. I took perfect pictures several times from multiple angles I have never once gotten a proper result. I clicked submit to be identified...... they want to charge me to use the app. 🤔 you are suspect. I proceeded to do a simple google search with a simple description. Boom 💥 popped up with the correct results on the 1st try. I do not recommend this app don’t waste your $. This is my updated review after developers response. The app is still garbage 🗑. I am reading between the lines with your response now because you don’t object the the fact that if you paid for the app it would work better. Therefore you are a scam app. I tried so many times to work with this app. I even tried it on layup plants that a 3 year old could identify and they still got it wrong. Very suspect practices going on over at plant snap..Version: 3.00.29

I want my money backNot one single identification was correct, EVEN on the most common and easy plants. NO WAY TO CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION..Version: 5.01.08

Poor AppEvery time that I log on, the app asks me to sign up for a membership. After paying for a 12 month membership, the app continues to request me to pay for another 12 months. While the app states that my membership is current for another 11 months, the app remains non-functional — unless I commit to another 12 months. There is no guarantee that another 12 months of commitment is going to fix this issue. There is literally no way to contact the developer through the app and figure out how to fix this. Re-installing the App did not work. Attempting to contact them online did not work. As far as I can tell, the app is simply a money-grab. To further annoy me, when submitting a photo of a common desert plant in the Mojave desert of California and sharing my location to help narrow possible results, the top result of some weirdo plant from Egypt. Add the membership issues to the poor identification results and I am absolutely and completely annoyed and feeling completely ripped off..Version: 5.1.23

Not very usefulI’m posting this to have a written record that I cancelled the free trial and I certainly do Not want the yearly service. The app probably recognized 3 out of 10. Today is August 25, 2023, cancelled around 5:00 pm EDT. My trial period ends in 2 or 3 days time but did not get much help from this app. Why is it so hard to cancel here within Apple apps?.Version: 6.1.1

UselessMisidentified every single plant in our new home’s garden. I didn’t think it could possibly be that bad, but it couldn’t even identify common plants. Trying to cancel my subscription (had one month free trial) and cannot seem to do so..Version: 5.1.23

Adding plants to collectionI found it extremely hard to figure out how to add a plant to your collection. After emails back and forth with the company, I was finally able to figure it out. You have to identify the plant, then actually click on the plant name (Not the picture of the plant) and THEN you can add the plant to your collection. There should be a “add plant” button easily accessible. No where on the app does it say “click on the plant name to add to be able to your collection.” So how is one to figure that out? I was going crazy trying to get it to work. Shouldn’t be that hard. The rest of the app is simple and easy to use. Also it misidentified a plant. I tried three or four times and it wasn’t right. So I tried another app and it identified it correctly first time. It was just a simple iceplant. Still happy with the app overall..Version: 5.1.23

Why do I need an account? If I wanted the saving functionality I would make an account but given I don’t have a choice I have chosen not to use the app..Version: 3.00.00

Developer response - nonsense!!Update: the developer sends out a generic message in response to all negative reviews placing the responsibility on us (apparently we are not framing the plant properly, and not taking the photo properly). Rubbish!!!! What a poor company. You can’t even take responsibility or try to redeem your poor app. I have followed the instructions and your app is still inaccurate. Photos are framed just as instructed. Poor app and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.Version: 6.1.0

Hilarious!Absolutely terrible for practical use as I took a picture of the same plant five times and each time it gave different results. This app is fun to use for the wrong reasons however. It thought my lizard was some type of desert branch. It thought my foot was an orchid (same with febreeze) and it saw a fungi in the shape of my hand. Not to mention it actually bothers to show results at a plain wall. I’ve had a great two minutes with this app!.Version: 3.00.23

Not accurate at ALL!I took some photos of some plants I knew the name of and once loaded. It came up with totally different names with completely different plants. Do not recommend this app waste of time and effort..Version: 5.00.11

Couldn’t identify anythingI used the app on the free trial and become so frustrated. At first I thought it was because I might have rare plants in the new garden but after trying 5 different plants it found none and suggested none that matched. So I tried it on a basic cooking apple tree and it still couldn’t find that. I tried a few different leaf photos and still couldn’t find it. So I’m not sure it has much worth so cancelled the trial..Version: 5.01.08

Not free. Not accurateI am really disappointed in this app. First of all it did not even identify the British tree in my garden in the UK advising me it was something from Asia when it had my location. The small amount of photos it allows before bombarding you with ads is not enough I understand developers need to monetise apps but they are taking the Mickey with this. False readings waste the amount of chances you have and you can only ask questions if you are subscribed. Very frustrating and many others available that will do a better job free Or just pay for a different app..Version: 5.00.11

Free but very limitedI was kinda let down while using this app even though it’s pretty simple the mechanics are slightly difficult. there’s a bit of *lagging* when it comes to scrolling or just trying to use the app in general. the features are pretty *limited* to where you can only take *10 pictures every 5 hours* and *ads* pop up from time to time. you can also choose to pay a monthly fee of $2 or a 1 time fee to unlock everything which is about $25. it’s also a struggle that it takes a *few tries for it to actually identify and plant correctly* which leads to you using up the majority of your tries. I hope to see some sort of improvement to when it comes to helping consumers and a nice feature I think should be added on are instructions on how to care for said plant and what region its mainly found in..Version: 2.02.00

Good at identifications but very poor at using themThe ability of this app to identify flowers is awesome and it is a lovely thing to have as spring rolls on. ... but the app interface is nowhere near as good as the AI. I want to build up a collection of identified flowers and it is just about possible (I managed once) but tortuously difficult. I am not alone in this - most of the snaps that have been shared in the (hard to use) public collection part have no identification. Also what is the pint of the AR system labelling my image with “flower” and “leaf”.Version: 5.00.04

Hidden downloads - very sneaky!Downloaded this app to my phone, only to find my phone had also downloaded some sort of “Squishy 3D” game, Pokemon Go, a weight loss tracker, and 2 other apps as soon as I started the download. I get it’s probably something to do with ads and revenue but I don’t want other apps on my phone unless i physically download them myself. Don’t be sneaky!.Version: 5.00.12

Can't reset the password to access premium subscriptionUPDATE: Just saw email with reset link (received at 11:39AM)...saw it at 12:45...and "Your request to reset password has expired or the link has already been used." I'm at a loss. UPDATE: Again. Received the reset link (in the night) and it had already expired. This time, I opened email as soon as I woke, checked at 7:30AM. Still no access to Premium version. Password request for reset are usually sent instantly (standard good practice). Yours doesn't seem to be automated. Is it done manually by someone? Well, as I'm not willing to stay up all night refreshing my email so I can catch it before it expires, I think I'll have to ask iTunes for a refund as clearly this is a poor indicator of service. UPDATE: I received the password reset link at 4AM (my time), when I read it and clicked it, it had expired at 10AM (my time). I sent a new request...haven't received new link yet. ORIGINAL: I registered first for free version and then paid for premium upgrade but stupidly didn't save the password. When I finished the purchase it logged me out. When I try to reset the password, it reads that I should receive instructions to reset via email. I haven't received said instructions. I haven't received any welcome email either. I did receive purchase confirmation from iTunes store though...very confused. Help!.Version: 4.00.8

More like Plant CrapUpdate: I use this app every now and then to see if it can help identify a plant but most times it’s wrong and searching on google usually gives me a lot better results. I stick to what I said. The app is decent, DECENT, at best and doesn’t deserve anything above two stars. As for the developers of this app, they DO NOT take constructive criticism from consumers well. In turn they rather leave passive aggressive comments instead of improving their sub par app. All of us from the plant community appreciate your efforts but we’d rather not hear back until your app is in working market condition. Appreciate your feedback but again... NEXT. Another update: If you see any positive feedback for this app, more than likely it was made by the developer. The reviews that state this app works, are clearly just the developer trying to put good reviews to outweigh the bad. Don’t waste your time with it, trust all the bad reviews.... the app is terrible at identifying. I use the app ‘PICTURE THIS’, isn’t the best but does a heck of a lot better job at identifying than Plant Snap..Version: 2.01.25

A good idea poorly executedI would actually pay for this app IF IT WORKED. I wanted to try it to ID some ferns I’ve have in the garden, when it questionably threw up some species I knew they weren’t I then tried it on newer ferns if labelled and it only got two out of five correct! Not good enough if your paying for the app..Version: 5.00.10

DisappointedI spend a lot of time hiking and learning new plants. I enjoy learning about wild edibles and wildflowers among other things. I also enjoy learning about the need to prioritize the preservation of wildlife habitat. The app sounds like a good idea. However this app has completely failed. For example I have just recently taken clear photos of blooming common chickweed and the abundant golden ragwort. The app does not correctly identify either. Moreover it provides a list of potential alternatives that are also incorrect. The app does nothing to promote the Id of wild invasives such as garlic mustard that are ruining the ecosystem. The app sends lots of emails soliciting upgrades to the fee version. This is not surprising considering that the free version does not work at all. Do not bother with this app and do yourself a favor and read Peterson’s wild edible plants books and Rachel Carson’s A Silent Spring..Version: 3.00.20

It could not identify plants I snappedI was trying to identify things I hadn't planted, but appeared over a period of time in the garden, perhaps dropped by birds. Unfortunately the things I wanted to identify, couldn't be found, which was rather frustrating and had to find the answers elsewhere. I don't know whether this app is more geared for North America or what, but I did not find it helpful. (I have new responsibilities and needed to know if things were toxic, so I could keep our dogs safe.) If I had found it useful on the seven day trial, I may have kept it on, but it didn't instil me with any confidence to continue with it - sorry!.Version: 6.0.9

Not as Helpful as I had hopedI just downloaded this to replace a more expensive plant identifying app. I like that this app doesn’t force you to pay, before it’s at all useful, but I haven’t had luck with identifying any of my handful of plant babies thus far. I do like the Botanist feature to send off for identification, but have not received those results as of yet, so could improve my overall option on the current version. I love the concept so much, if only they’re providing accurate, helpful results. Also, my collection should be one of the quick tabs. Not hidden. I’d rather have that, versus the community tab..Version: 4.00.7

Mediocre app, atrocious developersI was excited to first use this app and even looked at tutorials to try and get it to identify plants better but in the end I have to agree with almost everyone else and say that this app doesn’t work as it should even when “used properly” the developer team just copies and pastes responses to the reviews and are very passive aggressive, and claim to be here to help but in reality they just want to appear like they are ready to help, but in fact have no desire to fix their mediocre identification app OR to help people “properly use” the app, they are all about appearances and want to give the illusion that they are doing -anything- the bad reviews are right, and if you take a look at the developer responses to them, you’ll see a pattern of rude deflection without tackling any real issues it’s basically just “our app works, you’re not using it right, we can’t help you use it right if you don’t taaalk to us” well people have tried, left their reviews, and done their part, the only problem left is the actual developers not thinking they did any wrong and telling others it’s their fault. This app and the makers are NOT EVEN WORTH THE TIME. Move along to ‘picture this’ at least that one can’t identify simple herbs..Version: 2.02.00

Doesn’t really workTried it on a few easy to identity plants that i have, rhaphidophora tetrasperma, peperomia raindrop and golden pothos. The best i got with the rhaphidophora was monstera deliciosa, got nowhere close with the peperomia and the pothos was correct after a few attempts. It’s a good idea however if you’re offering care and advice onto this plant that you’ve just identified for people then i think it should be better at identifying. At the moment it feels unusable and untrustworthy as i can’t use this to identify a plant that i don’t know because it can’t identify common plants that people may have..Version: 5.00.12

ScamI never leave reviews but I’ve used this app a ew times and although it identified my plant halfway (it didn’t really identify the plant to be honest) I felt like it was a scam or some foreign organization trying to obtain my information. In this day and age you can’t be too careful so I chose to delete the app. The instructional video in a foreign language the way they send you an email with multiple links urging you to click them and the title of the email saying PLEASE READ in all caps... what app does this?! None that I’ve seen. However I have seen these in the warning video that my company sends out about internet scammers... so hey if I were you I would use another plant app this one just seems too sketchy and it doesn’t even work perfectly..Version: 2.02.04

Ok well paid so used the app - to date it hasn’t recognised a single plant. Bombarded with pop ups.. has huge potentialI was really excited for this because of all of the opportunities this type of application could provide for both education and hobby. Right after downloading it I tried taking three basic photos and all of them were in accurate which I’m sure can happen with the thousands of different species out there. What bothered me was the endless pop ups and ads trying to get me to upgrade before I even spent 30 seconds in the app after having it for five minutes I’m deleting it and will try other ones hopefully they can improve on this.Version: 3.00.30

Déçue !Cette application ne reconnaît pas bien les plantes du tout. Je lui montre une plante arrangée et elle ne donne en résultat, une Aloes !!! Je me suis vite désabonné…..Version: 5.01.08

Great idea but……Identified my mandarin tree as a lemon tree, my lemon tree as a native tree from Brazil……. I remember why I installed then removed this app 2 years ago..Version: 5.01.18

It not free !!!What a farce.. my mounting distrust of plant identifiers developers their sales gimmicks and lies forces me to write this warning to plant enthusiasts who might not read the fine print . Insulting . ..deceptive .. buzz kill thx Plantsnapped !!.Version: 6.1.0

Not worth itI just try to identify 8 different plants in my garden and thus app was way off! Even didn’t identify my aloe Vera as aloe Vera…. Don’t think I’ll be relying on this app for plant advice..Version: 5.01.00

Didn’t workTook pictures of 5 unknown plants. It gave a massive varied selection of what each could be asking me then to confirm which it was?! (If I knew that I wouldn’t be using this!) Then took a picture of a plant that I know what it is as it still has the label from garden centre in it, and it told me it was a Vietnamese herb often used in east Asian cooking, it was a petunia..Version: 5.1.23

BooGave 4 different but wrong answers the first 4 times I tried it. Constant pop ups and scroll ads made me delete this 5 mins after install. Don’t waste your time..Version: 2.02.04

EhhhSo I have Autism and plant are something that help. So I have tons and a few I didn’t know the name of so I wanted to find out. No signing up required which was good bc that really annoys me. I started taking a few photos of the unnamed plants and once the results came up it looked nothing like the actual plant so I was disappointed. I did a couple more and again inaccurate. For my last two free photos, I did them on plant I knew the name of and unsurprisingly it was inaccurate again. However it was listen beneath. I will be deleting this app due to Inaccuracy and the way the Subscription is placed. Thank you.Version: 5.00.10

Struggles to identify very common plantsAs the title states this app struggles to identify the most basic and common plants. Gives a massive range of plants when identifying, some of which don’t even look like the plant pictured. Very rarely come up with the correct plant..Version: 2.01.21

Overrated and inaccurateWay too inaccurate for it to be considered as anything serious to work with. First, the “free” version allows you only 10 tries a day. Not bad, I thought. But when I had to try 3 times to identify a simple house palm plant, and 2 tries to identify a fishtail palm (it can’t get any easier to identify a tree than a fishtail palm due to its unique leaves), I realized that on just 2 plants I wasted 5 of my 10 wishes! Plus 1 rose and 1 Narcissus, 7 out of 10 tries gone in 10 minutes! Meanwhile, the ads did not miss a beat. Talk about bombardment. So, if you’re going for a hike, curb your enthusiasm or cough up $15 a year! They simply put a beta version out to make some money with the ads and lure in the users with a loose purse. Not worth the frustration of trial and error,...error,...error!.Version: 4.00.11

DisappointingUnfortunately, I found this app to be very disappointing. I tested it out on plant species I already knew to challenge the accuracy. It failed miserably. Of the ten “snaps” I took, (your daily limit without paying) it was correct once on the first try. Sadly it lacks the ability to specify the part of the plant you have photographed. The addition of this might make it more accurate. Furthermore, it drained the battery incredibly fast, I used 20% of my battery in 5 minutes. Lastly, in that 5 minutes I saw 3 ads and 2 requests to rate the app..Version: 3.00.30

GarbageTook a photo of my dog and my foot and told me it was such and such plant.Version: 5.01.06

AppApp keeps giving me different names for my wood. I deleted the app. I dont recommend it.Version: 5.1.23

RegisterWhy do I need to register to protect my plant photographs? I just want to identify a flower. Response: I understand the need for registration if I was an expert user and was using it all the time to keep logs of my flower finds etc, but I would also suspect there is also a huge proportion of your users who just want to identify a flower from time to time. For me it was useless in that regard if I had to register first and I went elsewhere. I changed review to 3 as I’m sure others wouldn’t mind register and would use all the lovely features you have. Good luck.Version: 2.01.30

Portrait modeI’ve only tried for a few mins. A common negative from me is that devs often offer support for portrait rather than both portrait and landscape mode for IPad users. I don’t mind the account logging in, or adverts or limited use as I wouldn’t need to use anything like this often. the portrait only mode is ugly on iPads and is enough for me to delete an app unless it’s absolutely required eg for smart devices. But I love the idea of their app in general :).Version: 3.00.23

AccuracyVery rarely gets it right. Doesn’t seem to be aware of any Australian plant..Version: 5.01.03

Waste of money!I’m so profoundly disappointed!! It’s not a cheap app and my first test plant (a basic snake plant) could not be identified (yes it has many names but it came up with odd options). I’m mad at myself for being taken in by the well written information about the app! Very disappointing!.Version: 4.00.6

Just keeps disappointingI initially bought this app a few years back when the database was improving. However, I’m noticing recently that even the easiest to identify plants do not even get suggested and when I try to suggest the proper plant name, I will either get an error message or it’ll keep “trying” (the app has to be closed and restarted). I downloaded another app today and did comparisons. I’m sad to say that PlantSnap isn’t worth the extra costs. I wish I could get my money back….Version: 5.01.06

Worst app I want a refundThis is the worst plant app. I paid the 9.99 and every plant I take a picture of it bro by a up the wrong answer. I took a picture 5 times of one particular prunus tree and it gave me a different answer every time. So I though I would test it out. I planted pumpkin seeds and sunflowers . When the shoots came through for both this app couldn’t give the correct answers for either. So I waited for them to grow abit more. And still this app cannot tell me the correct answer. What’s more it changed the answers from when I first took pictures. . Literally a con.Version: 5.00.07

Wrong Plant name.We have often found that we are given the wrong name of the correct plant we have taken photo of! Why is this so??We pay for the subscription we would expect simple name as well as the genius the family and of course the botanical name please help us?.Version: 5.01.17
