Dark Mode for Safari for Negative User Reviews

I want to love itI really want to love this extension, but the fact that you have to manually enable it for every single page (and it doesn’t remember the setting!) makes it hard to like. I understand that it’s not currently possible due to Apple’s restrictions, but this would be a MUST BUY if it were possible to have it auto-enable on every page you visit. It also works extraordinarily well because it doesn’t just “invert” colors, it makes websites legit dark mode while keeping the original colors of images. Overall it’s an great extension, but annoying to have to manually enable. If the day comes that the developer can set it to auto-enable, this will be a 5-star must buy..Version: 1.1.0

Not worth itThis literally just inverts the website..Version: 1.1.0

Kinda misleadingSo dark mode doesn’t come on automatically you have to go into the share menu and press dark mode for each page…. Will this be fixed at some point so it can automatically go straight to dark mode?.Version: 1.2.0

Not really practicalIt does what it says it does I guess, the only issue is that you have to enable it for every page every time you visit. So if you open a page it will load light, then you can enable dark, click on a link, you do it again.Version: 1.1.0

Waste of money!I used it twice and way too much work! Forget it and put a blanket over your head instead. Never again..Version: 1.1.0

This is a scamIt’s just video to show you how. It doesn’t work..Version: 1.0.1

Shortcuts alternativeThis doesn’t work well on many sites. On desktop, I use Dark Reader. You can get something better by using the iOS Shortcuts app with the ‘Run JavaScript’ action, using the code from the Dark Reader GitHub (use the condensed code for CDN)..Version: 1.1.0

It is not even close to what I expectedThe application only works is a static page, which means that by updating the page or changing the page the effect is lost.Version: 1.1.0

Why must you track my browsing history?I’d like to activate the app but it is asking me to allow it to view my browsing history, and I don’t really see why that’s necessary for an app that just makes the screen dark..Version: 2.1.0

Doesn’t work on certain pagesThe option to toggle it on is missing from some pages.Version: 1.1.0

Does not work refund pleaseAfter buying and loading the app i can’t enable because the app doesn’t work with safari for iOS 13, don’t buy.Version: 1.1.0

“OK” at bestSafari Auto Translate extension: The extension has bugs and it’s really annoying. Every time I open a page that isn’t in English, it doesn’t automatically translate it at all (yes, I have set it to auto translate to English in the settings). I have to go in the browsers extension and press “Translate page now” to force it. What is the purpose of buying this extension if it doesn’t do it’s job? Safari Dark Mode extension: This extension is even more annoying 🤦‍♂️ 1. If you select “ignore entire website” for a specific website to not have Dark Mode, it still set it to dark mode if you click a page on that website. 2. The Dark Mode doesn’t switch the websites words to white, in turn I can read anything and have to revert back to no dark mode. Again, what’s the purpose of me buying this app if it can’t do its job. Overall I rate these extension 0 out of 100, don’t waste your money. In fact, I want my money back..Version: 2.4.0

I think Noir is the better buy.I’ve now tried three different paid safari dark mode extensions, and they all have their quirks, but I think Noir is the better buy compared to this one. What I liked about this app was that the background is true black, and has several other themes, and they’re good picks. I also liked that it checks when you’re in dark mode and acts accordingly. What I didn’t like is that for dark mode to switch, the page must be manually refreshed. Noir switches pages in real time as dark mode is enabled or disabled (though sometimes it won’t darken everything until a refresh). I also didn’t like that multiple websites I checked had strange artifacts — images with colors shifted strangely, buttons that were black against black and therefore invisible, images being blacked out, and even some websites had accent colors become much lighter when this extension was enabled. Last, I didn’t like that the theme wasn’t customizable on a per-website basis — so I can’t set one website to true black and another to dark gray, and have the extension remember that. There were some websites that this extension performed better with than Noir, though, so it might make sense for some people to get both apps, just make sure you don’t enable both on the same websites, because they can interfere with each other..Version: 2.2.0

Needs to run automatically on web pagesNeds to run automatically on web pages instead of manually turning dark mode on and not disappearing.Version: 1.1.0

Needs iCloud syncing across devicesThe app is great. But having it on multiple devices and having to tell it on every device what websites to ignore gets annoying when you have Macs and iPhones and iPads all using it..Version: 2.2.0

Extraordinarily cumbersomeThis setting needs to be enabled with EVERY. SINGLE. PAGE. If you’re hoping to avoid the glare of white screens when working in dark mode at night, this will not help. Please update the app to avoid this behavior and load the extension by default. As it currently exists, this app is useless..Version: 1.1.0

Almost completely uselessNot only do you need to click “change to dark” on every page (not website, every page), but if you click a link on said page, then return to it, it’s back to white again. If you somehow have to often read very long texts on the same website PAGE, might be mildly useful. For the rest of us who browse, when using our browsers, it’s completely useless. The fact they charge for this app, in its current state, is hard to comprehend..Version: 1.2.0

Needs workApp shows promise, but zero updates in over six months makes me wonder if the app is dead..Version: 2.2.0

It doesn’t stay in dark modeEvery time the browser refreshes or redirected to another page it doesn’t stay in dark mode..Version: 1.2.0

Currently basically functionally uselessUnless I'm missing something, it seems that after having to manually enable dark mode for each and every website you'd like to view in dark mode, anytime the page is reloaded (going back/forward, refresh, etc) it's necessary to re-enable dark mode again. So, functionality-wise, this app is currently basically useless. It's perhaps an interesting tech demo, but in my opinion it shouldn't cost anything considering it doesn't really do anything of value (if anything, it just wastes your time right now..) To the dev: I'd be more than happy to alter this review if/when things change in the future (and I know limits of the available APIs might force this un-user-friendly experience, but this doesn't force you to charge for the app...).Version: 1.1.0

Scam bewareJust gives you a webpage nothing to do with dark mode don’t buy.Version: 1.1.0

Not True Dark ModeNot only does this app not invoke a real Dark Mode (it only inverts color) it requires you to chose it for every single page you visit, per visit. Which is annoyingly repetitive. Save your money and just turn on the invert color setting yourself..Version: 1.2.0

It’s not consistentYou need to click every time you entered the pages.Version: 1.1.0

Downloaded IOS 15Hello, I recently downloaded iOS 15 however the websites are still not automatically turning dark. I just want to give you a heads up because I’ve been reading the comments about the Dark Mode not automatically coming and your response about how iOS 15 will automatically make these pages dark. Is there going to be an update to have this extension automatically turn the websites dark?.Version: 1.2.0

Don’t waste your money!Terrible! You have to activate the dark mode manually every time you view a new page or do a new search. Don’t waste your money!.Version: 1.1.0

Have to Activate EVERY timeOne must activate this extension for every tab and it won’t remember the setting. Example, go to google.com, hit the share button and activate dark mode, looks great. Close tab, open new tab, go back to google.com, and you must activate again. Dark Reader on my Mac is significantly better..Version: 1.1.0

Requires permission for collect passwords and credit card infoVery scary, I don’t care if you say you not collect the data, apple clearly states it does not verify developers information about data collection. I truly would love a dark mode for safari but the permissions it’s asking for is crazy. And I do understand why as I have background in hardware and software engineering. Now I have wasted my money for a app I never used and deleted….Version: 2.2.0

Its okay on iOS 15 I guess…I have the same app on my mac and it is perfect on there but this iPhone version is slightly temperamental, I'm assuming its just bugs that will be worked out and it is only £1.79 anyway. For example when I turn the switch to turn on with dark mode on my iPhone it requires a safari close and reopen to recognise that the setting has changed, the actual dark mode is pretty good just as long as the automatic switching gets fixed and it becomes as simple and effective as the Mac version… then I will rate 5 stars with no hesitation :))).Version: 2.0.0

Really need improvementIt was inconvenient to enable it manually every page and somtimes the page got dark and the text also black so I completely couldn’t see anything..Version: 1.1.0

DisappointingThe dark mode works, but you have to enable it manually every time! It’s been one year and it still hasn’t been fixed. What a shame..Version: 1.1.0

It’s cool but annoyingIt’s cool to see dark mode on the web site but annoying you have to set it up in every new web page or search..Version: 1.1.0

Poor dark mode consistencyMany people work specifically web- based and in my case, has a condition of severe sensitivity to light. The having to switch each page back to dark with each safari tab change, I find not only ridiculous, physically painful, but also breaks my chain of thought. I bought this since I bought My I pad pro, waiting for the fix, and can’t believe still the same. Unfortunately Apple doesn’t deem it necessary for us to be able to change the color of the backgrounds either, so dark it is. Please help..Version: 1.1.0

Dont Buy!!!How it does darken the (single) web page your on, You have to go through the activation steps for every other page that your on, and every page or window that you open. Its not across safari as whole. Very Upset! And will be writing or calling  to get a refund, and report this app fo selling this app under false pretenses..Version: 1.0.1

Do not buy, free way to do this below!Okay. People need to know that what this app really is, simply put “Smart Invert”. A feature your iPhone already comes enabled with. I made this comment before but it got deleted. I will be taking a screenshot of my comment this time, and *will* repot it to Apple if it is removed again. Or, rather as to not insinuate or levy blame and accusations, I’ll say, if it mysteriously goes missing again. Now, seeing as I do not have the time or patience to pen exactly what I wrote last time this will be a cliffsnotes version. (Well I guess technically SparkNotes as CliffsNotes is for people who have read the source material and SparkNotes is for those who have not.) All you have to do is click the “button” on the iPhone theee times and a menu will pop up. It’s the same menus that allows you to reduced the white point. I couldn’t tell you how to do this on more advanced iPhones as I stopped at the 8. If the three clicks didn’t work do not worry my friend. All you need to do is go to the “Accessibility” part in you settings menu. You know. The one the looks like a cog. Or a gear. Or just google “how to use Smart Invert on my “iPhone ______”?” and you should find easy to use directions. If this company existed before this feature was made then fine, my apologies for say I’ll things before. However, if it was made after the Smart Invert feature was made then these people are just taking advantage of people who don’t know all the features of their phone. The best part is that you don’t have to hit it for each new page or load. It’s on the whole time. The only downside is that it will still invert your colours once you left safari. But it’s a super quick change three taps and then deselect it and go on your way. This is also where you can dim the light even more to save your eyes at night. Lastly to the publishers. I have copied this wall of text and I set a reminder to check everyday. If it’s gone. I’ll post it again. People should known before they buy. That’s capitalism l. That’s American!.Version: 1.1.0
