Stellarium Mobile - Star Map for Negative User Reviews

CrashCrashes on launch. iOS up to date. £18. White screen. Sort it out..Version: 1.10.4

I found this app incompatible with my iPadAlthough I very much wanted to use Stellarium Plus on my iPad, this was unsuccessful. I appreciate that this may just have been my inaptitude but the important thing is that I communicated with Guillaume about my difficulty and he accepted that I was having problems and offered to refund my subscription. I should like to say that his handling of my enquiry was certainly worthy of *****. Thank you Guillaume!.Version: 1.4.2

GyorgyMy phone is set to Hungarian language and I have korean keyboard added to alphabet options when typing texts. Stellarium picks up korean. I added more languages but Stellarium stayed with korean. When I deleted korean keyboard from the options it went back to latin letters. The problem that I do not understand korean as I just study it so I cannot use Stellarium unless I delete the korean keybord option..Version: 1.10.4

Keeps dropping out.....App works reasonably well, but for a first time user, it doesn’t connect to the server and drops out.Version: 1.4.2

Great in TheoryThe idea behind this app great. When put to use though, you need to know where to look for constellations and stars before using the app. Using it to locate Comet Neowise was next to impossible for a beginner. By the description I understood that by pointing the camera skyward the screen would show me where the Comet was in relationship to other well known items. I tried to see The Big Dipper which was just about directly overhead. I started the app and it said Porterville current view or something to those words. Could not locate the big dipper on my phone doing a search or just pointing the camera up. I followed all instructions and could not locate anything. $9.99 and it is nowhere near as easy as described. Very disappointed. Still guessing what I am looking at when I look at the night sky..Version: 1.5.0

IPad compassStellarium Kees trying to calibrate and iPad does not have a compass..Version: 1.9.2

Not correctThis app is nice but the compass is incorrect, it says the moon is on the right even though it isn’t.Version: 1.12.0

Crashes oftenEvery time a select a specific telescope I have configured it crashes. Then I remake the telescope with another name, as you can’t delete a telescope once made, and as I select this second telescope it crashes again. Not good enough for my $30 AU.Version: 1.9.6

It ok..It ok, not amazing. Good for seeing what’s going to be where with the time and date function. Could show where the Milky Way is or will be a bit better as it’s so faint. It will only show satellites when you type a specific one into the search. I only purchased this for planning astrophotography. The night sky app is better in my opinion..Version: 1.4.2

DLC subscription requiredMost of the advertised features don’t work unless you download content and subscribe (pay da monies) Avoid if looking for (as advertised) a free sky map….Version: 1.9.7

No Messier items listedWhat a real shame there are no Messier items listed on the sky view..Version: 1.10.3

I love this appI love to watch the sky but can you make an for free only app, I need to watch every satellite for free please.Version: 1.11.1

Lacking functionI have used Stellarium for Windows and Linux for years. While the app for iOS is okay it doesn’t compare with the other platforms. The control and function of this app is lacking and if I could I’d return it. I do not recommend this for anyone who is used to the original program. Missing the multiple choices for telescopes, oculars, and cameras was the deal breaker for me. In my opinion it’s a go back and do it again..Version: 1.7.6

Devs, please provide an option to keep the search/menu bar visible at all times. It’s a good app with one major oversight. It’s difficult to access the menu whilst zoomed in on a target. Once a target is chosen, the menu bar disappears. When zoomed in, tapping the upper edge of the screen causes the app to select whatever happens to be under your fingertip as a new target. It’s difficult to bring up the menu bar (e.g to adjust the camera FOV rotation) without first having to zoom all the way out. This oversight makes using the app very much a tedious, trial and error affair. Please give us the option to keep the search/menu bar visible. EDIT: I have found that when zoomed in on a selected ‘target’, a rapid double tap on the upper left edge of the screen will reveal the menu bar, giving access to the Instruments> Oculars tab. Having to navigate through the menus when making small rotation adjustments still remains a tedious affair. It would be far more convenient, and less tedious, if there were a shortcut (as there is for Landscape, Gridlines etc.) to allow quick access to the Oculars menu..Version: 1.7.6

Just doesn’t workThe main problem is that there is no way to tell it which direction you are looking. There doesn’t seem to be any way to calibrate the direction. Most of the time it was 180 degrees off horizontally, but not always, and vertical was anyone’s guess. If you actually know some significant landmarks in the sky and are looking to learn more, this is not the app. If you know nothing and want to feel like you know something, maybe this is what you need..Version: 1.12.0

Did not support SkyWatcher mount as promisedIt says that this mobile version supports SkyWatch (SynScan) telescopes, but it does not. I spent several hours on this last night (and I’m and IT expert) and it does not connect to telescope via mobile, and it says this in the documentation, that it must connect via SynScan app in the background but IOS does not permit this, in short you cannot connect from this app to your scope. All the ports suggested do not work. I tried connecting to another ios device running synscan and the same device, and directly to the ip address of the scope. None of these work says promised..Version: 1.11.1

Tracking does not work on iPad Air 2Tracking does not work on am iPad Air 2, despite that it has a compass sensor. Without the tracking this app is useless, so look elsewhere. Also almost all the features are locked beyond a paywall. It so shamelessly tries to nag for money right from the start that I even had doubts if it is an official app..Version: 1.10.3

Family Sharing Issue - Still Not WorkingUpdate - I saw the response to my review below about a fix. Thanks for trying to fix it. I gave it several days and just tried again. The family sharing still does not work for one-time purchase. The app claims to allow for Family Sharing, but with the in-app purchase of Stellarium Plus rather than a separate app purchase like many other upgrade apps have, it doesn’t give you a way to access the upgrade through family sharing. I emailed the company to ask about it and got a link to the generic Apple “How to use Family Sharing” page that did not help at all..Version: 1.10.4

Disappointing for Astro photographyI had hoped this app would have the same features as the desk top version for setting up different sensor sizes and telescopes and lenses as well as popular photo objects. The old concept of pointing the phone to the sky is lame..Version: 1.6.4

App downloaded in FrenchCannot figure out how to download app in English or switch to English language. Response to developer: I looked at my languages French was 2nd to English in the preferred list. English is the selected language. After I deleted French, Spanish was the 2nd language after English in the list. Now the app is displaying in Spanish. It’s like it’s missing the English localization and falling back to the next preferred, or skipping the preferred language of English altogether. Deleting the app and reinstalling to see if that helps..Version: 1.5.2

Compass Calibration issuesI love the app. Gives full detail from star types, lightyear distance. Issue is, every time I open this app it asks to calibrate my compass. When I try to follow instructions to fix it, it’s still inaccurate..Version: 1.8.1

Not perfect on iphone Xr onwardsLove the app. Really good tool, but.... the app do not allow for the top of the screen of the newer iphones, which means that “black bar” with speaker and camera covers over the writing in the top. For £9.99 then please fix this ASAP 🙏🏻.Version: 1.5.2

Unusable on newer iPhonesDoes not work well on newer iPhones with the Dynamic Island - parts of the UI are hidden/unusable..Version: 1.10.1
