Allegory for Negative User Reviews

AwfulI was writing a note which took like 20 mins until the app decided to completely shut down. So I went back on and I saw my note which was cut on half. Half of the writing I spent ages on had gone. If I could rate this no stars I would. Already deleted this app. Make a note app which doesn’t do this..Version: 1.0.3

Notes LostWas utilizing this as a note-taking application. Lost a weeks worth of notes to this app with no method to retrieve. Saved them and everything. Extremely dissappointed..Version: 1.2.9

Completely unreliableLooks so promising but little works as it should..Version: 1.2.9

Beautiful DisasterThis app is beautifully designed but lacks basic usability and has major flaws. When adding multiple notes in the latest version, old notes get replaced with the new text, creating duplicates and/or completely erasing old notes. I would hope my notes would be retained and not deleted when creating a new one. Secondly, formatting notes as to-do lists needs a major overhaul. It is buried in the “hold” menu three lines in. When selecting multiple lines it creates one large “to-do” line. When selecting each individual line it has unpredictable, nonsensical behavior. I have yet to dive deeper into any other issues as I can no longer use this app in its current state..Version: 1.0.3

🤨 3 gigabytes? Then app has a lot of potential but there’s something wrong. I loaded the app and started to try out different features. When I added a photo and then a drawing to a new note, things got really REALLY slow. I looked in Settings to see how much space was being used up by Allegory and it said over 3 GIGABYTES of data. This for a fresh install where I added literally one or two new notes to test the app. Something is not right ...hopefully it gets fixed so I can try it out. Again, I think there’s potential here for a great app..Version: 1.0

A few issuesHmmm, I have encountered a few serious problems. 1. Since subscribing, the app no longer syncs between my iPhone and iPad. 2. The last update wiped all my notes!! Hopefully these are just teething problems but I’m disappointed they weren’t ironed out during Beta testing. ===[Previous Review]=== I’ve literally had this app for an hour and I’m impressed so far—and I’m only using the free version. I’m looking for a replacement for Evernote or Agenda (I have a love-hate relationship with Agenda as the developers don’t seem to care about people with any kind of visual disability). Allegory is off to a good start. I love the “Today” view and the way they do the search. My biggest gripe is the use of markdown and not just RTF. That’s a personal thing, though. I don’t see the point of having unnecessary characters displayed in a writing app. If I was writing code, OK. But I’m not. Evernote, Scrivener, and even Matcha (just to name a few) display RT, so it’s possible. Perhaps allow the option to use markdown or RTF. Either way, I’ll subscribe to the Pro version for a month or two and see how things develop..Version: 1.0.1

Not ready yet...Not ready for the price.. The app has potential but it is not ready for prime time and certainly not ready for the price tag.. The issues have issues ... Lower the price to .99 and continue improving...Version: 1.2.3

Wouldn't stay open long enough to test itRepeated crashes prevented me from even working with this long enough to understand the layout and design of the app..Version: 1.2.6

Not ready fonor produciton.Unfortunately, what does like look like a great UI has been released to early into production. Whomever is resposible for the development of this applicationn should have tested it a bit more before actually launching it. The app dont work. It's full of bugs, crashing like crazy, wont open; and i haven't even taken a look at the codebase yet or whatever logs it had produced. i simply got rid of everything cuz; in all honesty: this is apple jobs. They don't pay be to download and debug other people's apps. (And from what i gather, submittinng an app to the appstore literally means that someone will test it out before simply making it availble >>> its sh** like this that keeps me up at night and makes me weary of donwloading whatever GUI macguyver-like type solution some dude came up with. ).Version: 1.2.8

DeletedAll of my notes disappeared!! I had not used the app for about 4 days, when I opened the app & couldn’t find anything that I previously written I knew something was wrong..Version: 1.1.9

Beautiful, but convoluted.I love the way the app looks, and in the beginning it was a pleasure to use. Now that I’ve had the chance to use it. I have a few issues. First off, what is up with deleting things? It seems like no matter which way you try, your notes do not disappear. If they do it’s random after dozens of attempts. Also this is more a personal preference but I find it’s confusing to use and things are laid out in odd ways that lead to a convoluted experience..Version: 1.2.0

Performance issuesThis app has a top tier design, with great attention to detail. However, it’s very slow when adding pictures to notes. So slow that the app refused to open after I closed it mid note. Running on an iPhone X and I never had any problems like this before..Version: 1.0

Does not run on Mac M1The app looks good but after downloading it will not run. It crashes as soon as I launch it. I’m on an M1 Mac and the app has not been updated in over a year so this is probably why. I don’t think the app will be update anytime soon if at all. Unfortunate for what seemes like a nice looking program..Version: 1.2.9

Very glitchyGoing in an out of notes messes up the writing. Leaving a not sometimes removes the last edit that was made. I haven’t used it much but already I have had confusing animations, the current note was too big on the dashboard. Icons moving around for no apparent reason. It’s expensive but it feels like it hasn’t been polished well like an expensive product should, clearly a lot of time has been spent playing with the animations which must have been exciting but the real hard work on usability is lacking. Just small things like there are so many icons above the keyboard, it’s not clear what half of them do and some seem broken, to close the keyboard you have to scroll all the way to the end. Notes are in edit and view mode all at once which is confusing. Drafts has a distinct mode to view notes, where links etc are clickable. Sometimes you are on the dashboard and sometimes the dashboard is minimised. There is no way to add a note without first pulling down the dashboard. It’s a great idea but it’s not there at the moment and not worth the premium price it asks.Version: 1.1.9

Opened Terminal then crashed on M1This should be flagged as unusable on M1 macs..Version: 1.2.9

Unable to Search Multiple NotesI tested the app to see if it could find a keyword that appears in at least one note. It failed the test. Additionally, I think the UI is confusing. Disappointment summarizes this app..Version: 1.2.9

Still needs workThe app does have potential. The UI is interesting and I like where it is going, but the app has already crashed a few times on me and I can't figure out how to delete the notes I make. I dont get the option to do so when I "two-finger tap" on the notes stack. I would also like for there to be a list view or a way to find certain notes easier without having to flip through each card..Version: 1.2.8

Doesn’t save notes. This app is so pretty and utilizes SwiftUI really well. However, it is bug-ridden. It deletes my notes and crashes very often. I almost want to remake this app myself seeing how much potential it has. I wish the developer would update it..Version: 1.2.8

Pretty but not ready for workI was impressed by the layout and design touches. But start typing and the app crashes after a few paragraphs, on my up to date iPhone 11 Pro. I would rather have a utilitarian app with rock solid performance than a nice looking one I can’t rely on..Version: 1.2.1

BewareThe app has bugs galore! DELETED all my notes. This app needs loads more work..I want a refund!.Version: 1.1.0

Every new iteration is buggierI am sick of having this app crash and take my grocery list with it while I’m in the store. I am deleting. Good idea executed poorly. Total garbage..Version: 1.2.0

5 second reviewThe app asked me to review it 5 seconds after opening or for the first time. It might be awesome. I really couldn’t tell you. Currently 1 star for non-sensical feedback..Version: 1.2.3

So coolDidn’t save an hour of writing but wouldn’t actually delete a one word note super cool thanks.Version: 1.2.9

Crashes on M1Can't even open it to look at it on my M1 MBA. No updates in 7 months - abandonware?.Version: 1.2.9

Not a Mac AppMac apps expose their functionality clearly and readily. They make great use of the screen and the platform. It's clear that this is essentially a port of the iOS app with little to no change. I realize catalyst apps are hard to get right. But a toolbar or control window, or *something* at the very least would help. This is a wonderful, beautiful app and it has so much potential..Version: 1.2.8

Deleted ALL of my notesI had at least 20 notes and everything was deleted after updating the app..Version: 1.2.3

D.O.A.Latest in series of visually excellent, substantively poor apps by this developer. Like the rest, this will never be updated. Pity, considering how thoughtful the visual design is..Version: 1.0

Doesnt work wellCant delete folders everything else doesnt delete well either crashes\corrupts files often nice layout wierd when highlight italicize etc.Version: 1.2.8

Constant crashing and sync issuesThe description is amusing, claiming a "macOS-centric UI" as built-in notes tell you to swipe left/right on notes despite (seemingly) not being able to do so on macOS. That doesn't bother me THAT much, however the app crashed 4-5 times before I could access the settings. Once I got past that, I ended up with two instances of a folder called "iChat" that were always both selected at the same time despite being able to click and drag either independently. Additionally, I couldn't delete the built-in notes. Despite deleting them all, every time I'd click a folder they'd reappear. With no confidence that I'll be able to access the app and no confidence that content will either sync or even exist once I stop actively looking at it, this app is a complete non-starter..Version: 1.2.7

Several issuesI have experienced the following: app crashes, notes won’t delete, notes won’t show in dashboard, duplicate folders clogging up my iCloud.Version: 1.2.9

Hey, buddyCan we get someone to help my guy with this app - honestly it’s so clean, i try to use it everyday lol but nope you literally can’t use the app. I know someone can help , please!!!.Version: 1.2.9

AllegoryUseless..Version: 1.2.6

Completely useless appI tried using this app but every time I put a note in there it disappears. Using the app is not straightforward, it’s very difficult to navigate, folders where i save a lot of notes turn up empty when i reopen the app and folders I delete pop back up too. Some serious bugs with this..Version: 1.2.3

Promising, but poorly executedThe premise of a clean, iOS centric note interface that just writes words without any bells and whistles seems nice but the app needs improvement. I can’t figure out how to delete folders, there’s strange gaps between them, and glitched duplicates are created often. Notes are spontaneously deleted and you can export as a txt file without paying. Allegory is just a small side project by an app developer jumping from project to project that requires more attention..Version: 1.2.9

Could be great, if it would actually launchI'll never know if this was what I was looking for in a notes taking app or not, because it immediately crashes upon launch..Version: 1.2.9

App crashed an writing disappearedAwful first impression. I downloaded the app and began to write. had a page filled and the app crashed on me and deleted everything I wrote as well as the folder I had created! Beautiful interface but what an awful UX experience. Deleting app immediately..Version: 1.2.9

Why I’m disappointed by this appI was very excited to see this app - it looked like the note-taking app I’d been looking for especially with the due dates feature. But it’s not that intuitive to use, especially to start typing a note. Pro is expensive (£16.99 a year is a lot compared to some other more established and more feature-rich apps) and there’s no free trial. It says there’s a limit on notes but I can’t find the details of this anywhere (I just want to know what the limit is). There also isn’t a recycle bin and you can’t duplicate notes. Seems like a lovely app but with no clear detail on free account limits and no free trial on pro I don’t feel encouraged to try it out. And when I tried going to the app support link there wasn’t any way to contact you for support. It is so aggravating when developers do this - ‘app support’ should be a way to get support! Not everyone is on Twitter you know. Proof that looks aren’t everything. The lack of a free trial or any support is just not good enough..Version: 1.1.1

Poor performanceThis application looks amazing but there are many bugs this is y second time purchasing it after getting a refund the first time. Why is this application so expensive and it doesn’t even work properly and the dev does nothing to fix the bugs. Looks like I’m going to get another refund..Version: 1.2.9

This App is a LieNothing saves, and it crashes constantly. 0/10, do not recommend..Version: 1.2.7

Inutilisable ☹️Ça plante, les raccourcis claviers ne fonctionne pas, le menu de notes est étrange est non-intuitif. L'app a l'air belle mais elle n'est pas fonctionnelle. C'est dommage..Version: 1.2.9

Pretty but that’s allWhere is the watch app that is suppose to be included? No syncing..Version: 1.0

UNFRIENDLY UXNope, try again. This time focus on the UX rather than the UI (A-) because the UX (C-) should be A LOT more efficient in terms navigation & function than it is right now..Version: 1.2.9

SadReally unsettling when you stay up all night noting content ideas for work and they get deleted once you wake up. Either open source this so we can fix the code or remove it from the App Store. Love the UI. But really disappointed with the code..Version: 1.2.8

Hasn't been updated for M-series chipsDon't buy this if you have an M-series chip Mac. It simply won't even launch. The developers have abandoned their product, which is a pity as I used to love this note taking app. It also doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't make it optimised for the M-series or native, because they've lost out on a lot of business, provided prospective buyers are reading these reviews. Their overall review score would be a lot higher if they made the effort to make this app M-series friendly, and they'd make more money. But not everyone has business sense I guess. Maybe they're too busy developing something else... like a crack addiction..Version: 1.2.9

Not that goodI wish the app showed a quick tutorial instead of a long written instructions. Also the app itself looks good but doesn’t cut ion well, what annoys me is random folders keep adding on like “school work” then somehow another folder is made automatically saying “schoolwork20%” which I have no idea what it means. My notes also randomly disappear which is really annoying I was going to use this for school but not anymore.Version: 1.2.9

Quits as soon a try to go to preferences.I dont have the patience now a days for this. It does look nice before it crashes..Version: 1.2.7

Looks gorgeous but impossible to useCompletely bug-ridden. I wish it actually worked cause its organization and appearance are lovely. But crashes immediately after opening, doesn't delete things I tell it to delete, and is just too much of a mess to be functional. I hope the devs fix this because I'd really like to try it. As it is now, it's useless, don't bother..Version: 1.2.8

What a messDownloaded and deleted in 2 seconds, Res Ipsa Loquitur!.Version: 1.2.7

Where are my notes???My notes dissapearing!!! But there are Allegory's notes (smth about Sirene) I can not delete at all. Once more - where are MY notes?.Version: 1.2.8

App wont launch on new MBP Pro MontereyApp wont launch on new MBP Pro Monterey after downloading and launching (deleting and repeating multiple times)..Version: 1.2.9

Unusable and BadI can appreciate the work that went into the design and user experience of this app, it’s quite masterfully thought out. However, the development and reliability of this app is lacking. The app crashes frequently, notes disappear and are gone forever. For a note taking app, those events are simply unforgivable. Until these items are addressed, Allegory will serve as another example of an app that proves that success requires both thoughtful design and proper software development. All beauty and no substance just doesn’t cut it..Version: 1.2.7

Good idea — not there yetAs most reviews say, the idea is great, but there are many bugs and flaws that would need to be worked out for the app to be useable including the most basic function of being able to save notes you've created.Version: 1.2.4

Apps constantly crashingApp crashes every 30 seconds. Can’t write on it. iOS.Version: 1.2.0

Horribly SlowWay too slow when I add a picture and write a note below it. It doesn’t finish writing what I type until a minute later and I’m on an iPhone 11. The speed is unacceptable for a subscription based app like this..Version: 1.0
