✓ AwfulI was writing a note which took like 20 mins until the app decided to completely shut down. So I went back on and I saw my note which was cut on half. Half of the writing I spent ages on had gone. If I could rate this no stars I would. Already deleted this app. Make a note app which doesn’t do this..Version: 1.0.3

✓ Beautiful DisasterThis app is beautifully designed but lacks basic usability and has major flaws. When adding multiple notes in the latest version, old notes get replaced with the new text, creating duplicates and/or completely erasing old notes. I would hope my notes would be retained and not deleted when creating a new one. Secondly, formatting notes as to-do lists needs a major overhaul. It is buried in the “hold” menu three lines in. When selecting multiple lines it creates one large “to-do” line. When selecting each individual line it has unpredictable, nonsensical behavior. I have yet to dive deeper into any other issues as I can no longer use this app in its current state..Version: 1.0.3
✓ 🤨 3 gigabytes?Then app has a lot of potential but there’s something wrong. I loaded the app and started to try out different features. When I added a photo and then a drawing to a new note, things got really REALLY slow. I looked in Settings to see how much space was being used up by Allegory and it said over 3 GIGABYTES of data. This for a fresh install where I added literally one or two new notes to test the app. Something is not right ...hopefully it gets fixed so I can try it out. Again, I think there’s potential here for a great app..Version: 1.0
✓ A few issuesHmmm, I have encountered a few serious problems. 1. Since subscribing, the app no longer syncs between my iPhone and iPad. 2. The last update wiped all my notes!! Hopefully these are just teething problems but I’m disappointed they weren’t ironed out during Beta testing. ===[Previous Review]=== I’ve literally had this app for an hour and I’m impressed so far—and I’m only using the free version. I’m looking for a replacement for Evernote or Agenda (I have a love-hate relationship with Agenda as the developers don’t seem to care about people with any kind of visual disability). Allegory is off to a good start. I love the “Today” view and the way they do the search. My biggest gripe is the use of markdown and not just RTF. That’s a personal thing, though. I don’t see the point of having unnecessary characters displayed in a writing app. If I was writing code, OK. But I’m not. Evernote, Scrivener, and even Matcha (just to name a few) display RT, so it’s possible. Perhaps allow the option to use markdown or RTF. Either way, I’ll subscribe to the Pro version for a month or two and see how things develop..Version: 1.0.1

✓ Not ready fonor produciton.Unfortunately, what does like look like a great UI has been released to early into production. Whomever is resposible for the development of this applicationn should have tested it a bit more before actually launching it. The app dont work. It's full of bugs, crashing like crazy, wont open; and i haven't even taken a look at the codebase yet or whatever logs it had produced. i simply got rid of everything cuz; in all honesty: this is apple jobs. They don't pay be to download and debug other people's apps. ✓ Beautiful, but convoluted.I love the way the app looks, and in the beginning it was a pleasure to use. Now that I’ve had the chance to use it. I have a few issues. First off, what is up with deleting things? It seems like no matter which way you try, your notes do not disappear. If they do it’s random after dozens of attempts. Also this is more a personal preference but I find it’s confusing to use and things are laid out in odd ways that lead to a convoluted experience..Version: 1.2.0
✓ Performance issuesThis app has a top tier design, with great attention to detail. However, it’s very slow when adding pictures to notes. So slow that the app refused to open after I closed it mid note. Running on an iPhone X and I never had any problems like this before..Version: 1.0
✓ Does not run on Mac M1The app looks good but after downloading it will not run. It crashes as soon as I launch it. I’m on an M1 Mac and the app has not been updated in over a year so this is probably why. I don’t think the app will be update anytime soon if at all. ✓ Very glitchyGoing in an out of notes messes up the writing. Leaving a not sometimes removes the last edit that was made. I haven’t used it much but already I have had confusing animations, the current note was too big on the dashboard. Icons moving around for no apparent reason. It’s expensive but it feels like it hasn’t been polished well like an expensive product should, clearly a lot of time has been spent playing with the animations which must have been exciting but the real hard work on usability is lacking. Just small things like there are so many icons above the keyboard, it’s not clear what half of them do and some seem broken, to close the keyboard you have to scroll all the way to the end. Notes are in edit and view mode all at once which is confusing. Drafts has a distinct mode to view notes, where links etc are clickable. Sometimes you are on the dashboard and sometimes the dashboard is minimised. There is no way to add a note without first pulling down the dashboard. It’s a great idea but it’s not there at the moment and not worth the premium price it asks.Version: 1.1.9

The UI is interesting and I like where it is going, but the app has already crashed a few times on me and I can't figure out how to delete the notes I make. I dont get the option to do so when I "two-finger tap" on the notes stack. ✓ Not a Mac AppMac apps expose their functionality clearly and readily. They make great use of the screen and the platform. It's clear that this is essentially a port of the iOS app with little to no change. I realize catalyst apps are hard to get right. ✓ Constant crashing and sync issuesThe description is amusing, claiming a "macOS-centric UI" as built-in notes tell you to swipe left/right on notes despite (seemingly) not being able to do so on macOS. That doesn't bother me THAT much, however the app crashed 4-5 times before I could access the settings. Once I got past that, I ended up with two instances of a folder called "iChat" that were always both selected at the same time despite being able to click and drag either independently. Additionally, I couldn't delete the built-in notes. Despite deleting them all, every time I'd click a folder they'd reappear. With no confidence that I'll be able to access the app and no confidence that content will either sync or even exist once I stop actively looking at it, this app is a complete non-starter..Version: 1.2.7

✓ Promising, but poorly executedThe premise of a clean, iOS centric note interface that just writes words without any bells and whistles seems nice but the app needs improvement. I can’t figure out how to delete folders, there’s strange gaps between them, and glitched duplicates are created often. Notes are spontaneously deleted and you can export as a txt file without paying. ✓ Why I’m disappointed by this appI was very excited to see this app - it looked like the note-taking app I’d been looking for especially with the due dates feature. But it’s not that intuitive to use, especially to start typing a note. Pro is expensive (£16.99 a year is a lot compared to some other more established and more feature-rich apps) and there’s no free trial. It says there’s a limit on notes but I can’t find the details of this anywhere (I just want to know what the limit is). There also isn’t a recycle bin and you can’t duplicate notes. Seems like a lovely app but with no clear detail on free account limits and no free trial on pro I don’t feel encouraged to try it out. And when I tried going to the app support link there wasn’t any way to contact you for support. It is so aggravating when developers do this - ‘app support’ should be a way to get support! Not everyone is on Twitter you know. Proof that looks aren’t everything. The lack of a free trial or any support is just not good enough..Version: 1.1.1

✓ Hasn't been updated for M-series chipsDon't buy this if you have an M-series chip Mac. It simply won't even launch. The developers have abandoned their product, which is a pity as I used to love this note taking app. It also doesn't make sense to me that they wouldn't make it optimised for the M-series or native, because they've lost out on a lot of business, provided prospective buyers are reading these reviews. Their overall review score would be a lot higher if they made the effort to make this app M-series friendly, and they'd make more money. But not everyone has business sense I guess.
