✓ Limits SD card recording to 7 daysCompany advertised accessing local playback that went far back as SD card allowed when I bought the device, which worked great for a few months but then introduces an update which limits recording to 7 days unless I pay a monthly fee. ✓ Unwanted feature in latest updateSince the latest update in Nov. 2020, keeping a camera stream on for 5 minutes shows a notification saying “You have viewed the live video for 5 minutes without any operation. Continue the viewing?” We used this as a baby monitor and now it’s useless since the stream cuts off after 5 minutes (requiring a click/touch). Why not include an option to disable this feature for those of us want to use our devices as a monitoring tool?.Version: 2.2.34

✓ Smart lights aren’t smart at allVery limited themes. Can only seem to be able to edit the two terrible default themes and not creat new ones. Timing and transition options are really limited in themes. More importantly, themes cannot be applied to a group of lights, nor can the lights seem to act in unison with one another. When using to control a group of lights the functionality is even more limited. Can’t apply a theme (such as cycling through the rainbow of colors) to a group of lights at once. Instead, you have to click into each individual bulb and set the theme, and none of the bulbs are in sync with one another. It is a terrible user experience and looks terrible. If you’re looking for cheap smart RGB lights, the Feit RGB lights are pretty much the same and the app can do much more and the lights are way easier to control. I sent back the 20 lights I bought since they have no group smart functionality..Version: 2.15.0（511）
✓ Poor Many Issues1) the time stamp date and time is wrong and there appears no way to set the correct date and time 2) to connect app for cam to the internet it kicks the device you are using the app on to view the camera off the internet iPad, laptop, mobile (no problem with my modem for other devices printer, tv, laptop, tablet, mobile, iPad just with these cameras) some message “device can only be controlled locally” and looked that up and it asks you to fiddle with your modem which works perfectly well with every other device I have. 3) it appears that the continuous and motion recording are reversed (or the continuous recording mode isn’t working and doesn’t record at all) 4) you can’t install a second camera it overwrites the first in the App so you can only use one camera or I suspect one device.Version: 2.4.42

✓ DisappointingI bought 4 Tapo C210 cameras. While using them in my home network they work fantastic. But as soon as you try and access the live feed or playback remotely it’s shocking the TP-Link cloud servers are very slow. It’s virtually impossible to view a feed. So I did some testing. I connected my Tapo cameras to my third party NVR and now it works perfectly not going through TP Link cloud servers. The feed is instant and no delay. You really need to fix this issue as it’s been going on for a long time. Most of my family bought the same cameras. They also have the same issue as me. The app is good. But the TP-Link cloud servers are not good. Also can you please bring back the clear all notifications button on the app. Thanks. I hope you can fix all these issues..Version: 2.15.0（511）
✓ Could be betterThe camera views are very clear, except that facial features are not clear, making it difficult to identify a person. Also, my two cats keep triggering the notifications even though I have decreased the motion sensitivity to 2. Also, the area intrusion features are not accurate even after numerous adjustments on the activity zones, resulting in constant triggering by passing cars. ✓ Too sensitiveGot my Tapo camera overlooking my front garden and fitted my own micro sd card. My detection and alert zones are set as close to the house as possible, but every time a car goes past it send a notification. Sensitivity is set to minimum but it still keeps going off. I have to turn it off in windy conditions, as the alerts drive me mad. Can’t have motion detection on as the alerts are ridiculous. However easy to set up and a great picture..Version: 2.10.4

✓ I wish I had an alternative to useUpdate - for information for anyone who was having a similar problem, I may have stumbled on a solution. It appears the Tapo Tp link and the Kasa apps may be linked despite having to use separate apps for the products. I had different passwords for each app so I think when I was logging in the passwords would generate an error because it had been changed in the other app. I have changed the password to be the same for both apps and at the moment this seems to have worked. This further demonstrates that TPlink should have only created one app which works across their range of products or advise people that the login details need to be the same for both apps. This is abysmal - kicks me out and will not accept the correct password. This is the third day running the app has required the password but won’t accept the correct password meaning I have to reset the password which is accepted until I am kicked out again. The app seems really easy to use but setting up each plug failed the first time but did the same thing and it was successful the second time of asking - why they couldn’t have one app for these and Kasa plugs is beyond me. The problem being kicked out means my Alexa skill doesn’t work. Completely unacceptable..Version: 2.11.5

✓ Doesn't allow for prolonged viewingMostly good camera and features but the super annoying part is that it cuts out very often to say that you haven't performed any operations in 5 mins and asks if you'd like to continue viewing. I timed it this morning. It asked every 2 mins! Highly irritating when you use the camera for extended viewing times (1 hr+) like we do. There is absolutely no way to change this setting so that it will run longer before cutting out. Please consider adding this capability!.Version: 2.11.25

✓ Software limitations1. You cannot really tell whether you camera is in home mode or away mode. Those two buttons don’t highlight. 2. There is no option for armed home mode. ✓ Would be dead by the time it loadsIt’s ok but has so many problems. Mostly annoying for the time it takes for the camera webcam to load and show what’s going on. By the time it loads someone would have broken into the house and killed u by now 😏. Half the time it doesnt load and keeps saying offline when it isn’t. It sometimes freezes. You may not notice until u look at the clock on the screen & see that it’s stopped. It constantly gives u a notification at the top of the screen saying lq quality works better than hq. Lq is terrible, it’s really blurry. It would be better if there wasn’t all these problems cos the webcam itself is fine once you get to view what’s going on..Version: 2.3.37

✓ Terrible DesignThis App will drive you crazy with the constant orientation switching. The cameras fail to connect much of the time. (The cameras with their own hub are much more reliable). They should stick to landscape mode and just scale back to present all of the settings on one screen. The default screen should be a display of 6 cameras, then a swipe to the next 6, etc. Upon launch, the program should immediately poll and buffer all the cameras simultaneously so that you can quickly see at least some of the cameras during a security emergency. It does no good when you have a prowler lurking outside and the “thinking wheel” is just pinning around. Like many Apps, they’re overthinking the interface. Default presentation = 6 screens, tap on any screen to blow it up foll screen. Tap once to return to full screens OR tap twice to see control options for that camera, including recordings..Version: 2.17.2
✓ Garbage!!!Have multiple C200 cameras. They are constantly disconnecting and when i try to reconnect, it says there are no 2.4GHz networks even when there is. I’ve googled and googled, called Telus.. a lot of people seem to be having the same issues with them not showing all networks to connect the cameras successfully. Don’t waste your money. ✓ No help from Developers Terrible after sale careHad this C210 camera for about one year and it worked really well. Did everything it said it would, and it was really good to look on the app to see if anyone was robbing the house while we were out. suddenly both cameras stopped working and I just could and still can’t them back online. ✓ No longer supports viewing for more than 5 minutesWorked fine until today. Now displays a prompt on screen after 5 minutes asking to continue viewing the live camera feed. Checked that software is all up to date. Rebooted the camera and iPad. No joy. Video stream pauses until you tap the prompt. No help on the website - only suggests they both have to be on the same wifi network, otherwise it streams from the internet. My iPad is WiFi only. ✓ No Landscape for iPadApp is ok, but still completely gimped by the fact that it doesn’t support landscape on the iPad unless you’re actually viewing a video. The majority of iPad cases and use case scenarios these days, even Apple’s marketing material, all have the iPad in landscape. ✓ DO NOT BUYTLDR Do not buy these products because whenever you try to connect, it turns out and perhaps 3/10 attempts will work as intended. I am so frustrated with these cameras. I bought 2 outdoor cameras and two indoor, and it’s been hard work ever since. Whilst everything “works” - it is not demonstrating reliability. (1) Signal strength/break. The front camera that covers the street, parking and car, after a few seconds of watching the feed, stops working and after 30 seconds asks me to refresh the feed. I refresh and the. The camera simply displays “offline.” This camera is less than 5m from a router my phone and even the car pick up from the street 20m away. Tapo obviously blame my $400 router. (2) Notification “zone.” None of the cameras pay any attention to the boundaries I have setup. I don’t need to be noticed at 5am when my opposite neighbour leaves for work. I need to know what the silly man drives into the back of my car, on my driveway. (3) “Person identification” is absolutely useless. It sends a notification that a person has been detected when in actual fact it was - hold your breath - a possum. (4) Tapo Care/Cloud is PER DEVICE and not per account. Don’t get sucked into it. ✓ Lackluster options for led light bulbsGreat to be able to change the colors. But the themes are terrible. The relax option changes for colors way too fast. It only gives option for 3 seconds max. That is not relaxing at all. I bought a lightbulb from a cheaper brand years ago in America that was able to do it just fine. I would think it is a quick fix for them to do but doesn’t seem that it is a priority for them due to how clunky the app is. ✓ Useless person detection aiConsidering the cloud / ai is a $ per month subscription expectations were that it would work. Doesn’t reliably detect people or differentiate people from shadows bushes etc. The cause is most likely a very cheap detection algorithm. Had this over 12 months and from a technical background have tested in a variety of settings and it’s just bad. Basically look elsewhere if you want reliable person detection alerts. ✓ Cloud StoragePleased to see that an option for Cloud storage has now been introduced on a subscription basis. Very disappointed that if you have 4 or less cameras, the cost to subscribe to the service over a 12 month period is as much as the original purchase price of the cameras themselves. That seems rather excessive. Update following iOS 15 release: Definitely not worth Tapo’s Cloud storage plan costs when Apple’s iCloud+ is priced so much cheaper and your camera storage doesn’t come out of your storage allowance. The only problem is that it only works with HomeKit supported cameras and Tapo chose not to make their cameras compatible..Version: 2.4.25
✓ Tapo cp200, do not BUY!!Do as you wish, but don’t say you wasn’t warned! I bought 2 of the Tapo cameras and have had problems with both of them, not just a “one of” problem, the first camera I got didn’t even come with a wall piece so I can put it on the wall so I’ve got it in the window until Tapo decide to respond to their customers, and the second one was perfect for 2 days, then all of a sudden decided to not let me move to the left or right, I’m literally looking at the sky with my house camera and when I try to position it with this app it is telling me I have reached my limit, I can’t move more in this direction.. so now I’m stuck with a camera that can’t see in the dark and has not use moving left and right, and another that is on my house but looking at the roof tops of my neighbours house, it’s almost 10pm, hopefully Tapo will respond tomorrow ( day 3 ) Never again!.Version: 2.4.42

✓ Constantly nags you to upgrade to a paid subscriptionThis app constantly nags you to upgrade to a paid subscription. There’s no way to turn this off. If you urgently need to see your camera video feed , the nagging gets in the way and delays you from seeing your video. This delay could harm you because it might delay you from taking urgent action, for example where an assault is taking place. The nagging is not only wilfully intrusive but potentially harmful. ✓ Unstable AppI have two C210 cameras and probably over 30 P110 energy monitoring plugs. For the price of the items of both the camera and the plugs the functionality is excellent. However, there is a problem with the App where if I look at the camera in the App it momentarily will turn off all my energy saving plugs. Unfortunately my Virgin box when disconnected takes about 5 minutes to reboot. It is therefore not possible to explore the footage of the camera without upsetting the plugs. I have addressed this problem to Tapo but at the time of writing this review a fix has not been applied.Version: 2.9.8
✓ Solid plug but app needs workAs has been mentioned the lack of a grouping feature is a huge oversight in an app that is meant to control smart homes. The ability to turn multiple plugs on with a single tap would be a major addition and to be able to do that via Siri would be an even bigger plus point. “Siri, turn on group 1” for example would save having to even go into the app for basic features and this can be achieved with apps such as smart life so is hopefully a future possibility for this app.Version: 2.1.12

✓ Needs ImprovementsI’m using this app for my Tapo IP camera and smart plugs. Clean UI and menus are easy to use but, seems to be reliable in general but the app needs major improvements. ✓ Getting better, still work to be done!This app is an iPad app that has been ported over to run on Mac OS. It likes to crash if you have it open when you put the computer to sleep and it gets confused when you change its orientation sometimes. But other than that it has worked reasonably well and is handy to have on the desktop. Despite its issues, it is still quite handy.
