Fortunately I had downloaded ‘Song of Bloom’ the week before after seeing on Apple’s “best of” list. I opened it up for the first time and my partner and I worked through the entire thing together in our tent, passing the phone back and forth as we figured out each puzzle. ✓ Possible glitch?I absolutely loved the game, up to the point that I had to put flowers on the bare tree at the start of the animation- no matter what I do, I cannot get it to register what I’m doing. I tried so many times, finally caved and watched a walkthrough, and after doing exactly what I had been trying it worked for the reviewer, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. ✓ Absolutely Amazing!This game is probably the best mobile game... Actually it’s the best game ever! Even though it is short (it took me like 30 minutes to beat it (with the help of the hint system (which I didn’t even realize it was a hint system until it was too late because they are way too easy to use and they pretty much tell you how to beat it.))) it is still an absolutely wonderful experience. I think I beat the game twice and played even more after that If you are thinking of buying the game. DO IT. It is a wonderful game cannot recommend it enough. Also if you are stuck at the “is a new beginning.” Screen. The cutscene before it tells you what to do. And if you still can’t figure it out. It isn’t challenging, and the narrative is rather abstract, but experience of it is quite poetic and the mixed media creates a sense of discovery and surprise. I loved it. I am also just in awe of how much work went into this: designing the paths, the polish to get digitized handcrafted objects to read well (especially when interactive), the voice acting, and so on. There were a few rough corners (at one point I had trouble doing something and started to doubt it was what I was supposed to do) but hardly detracted from my overall enjoyment of it. ✓ Another inspired game!As soon as I saw this game had Philip stollenmayors name associated with it I knew it would be good. I absolutely loved sometimes you die and was excited to buy this. Yet again it was worth the time as this game is brilliant, it’s really original, perfectly laid out so it holds your interest, gets you thinking and has great narration and music as well as cool graphics. ✓ Fun, but very tricky!I’ve played other games by this developer, like Bacon and Okay. Both were fun in concept, but Okay got hard way too quickly, and Bacon is riddled with ads! Song of Bloom is very different! I read that it took a year and a half, and it shows! It’s very creative, but you may need a walkthrough, because it’s very confusing, even a little convoluted! But I played through the game twice now, and I absolutely love it! Just a couple of things that keep it from a 5 star game: 1) There’s a bug at the end (the final puzzle) where you put flowers on the tree. The game didn’t register that I’d finished the level, so it technically didn’t end the game lol! Please fix this bug! 2) The origami level with the red roof was very frustrating and took me way too long to finally do! Also, the puzzle where you “bloom” the flowers was very confusing and ultimately very aggravating! This game is not very forgiving at all! If there are more glitches, I’ll update this review, but other than what I’ve mentioned, the game runs pretty smoothly! The art and music are both incredible, and I definitely recommend you play Song of Bloom at least once - you’ll love it! Just know that it’s very short, maybe 45 minutes to an hour. ✓ Incredible*Obligatory "don't usually leave reviews" statement* This game is just quite simply amazing, and deserved Apple's award easily. It's beautiful, it's dark, it's engaging, it's impossibly creative... I love everything about it and am so happy I had the opportunity to play it. I really can't say much more than that other than you should give it a try if this genre of game is appealing to you. In some ways it reminds me of monument valley (not in the way puzzles are solved but how secrets are unveiled and how you feel more and more a part of the world the longet you play). ✓ Beautiful game with some bugsTo start: I absolutely would recommend this game. It's beautiful and has a unique way to present puzzles. My problem is there’s a bug in the game that makes some of the puzzles unsolveable. I couldn’t find a way to report bugs directly so I hope the creators read this. When I hover on certain buds, instead of showing me the clue for that bud, it shows the clue for one of the flowers I’d already got. I had to consult a walkthrough to figure out that it was showing me the wrong clues. I’m on ios 15.7.4..Version: 1.03

✓ Surprisingly impactfulI downloaded this app on an absolute whim - it just seemed intriguing and I’d normally never download an app without knowing what it was. I promptly forgot all about it, but I recently decided to delete some of the more insidious apps that use my behaviour to monetize themselves (twitter, Facebook) and in my withdrawal state noticed this forgotten one. I started and finished it today and it was such a wonderful experience. Well worth the price, it’s artful and fascinating..Version: 1.03

Playing this game felt like stepping into a well-designed mixed media museum exhibit.
