Banktivity for Negative User Reviews

The worst every app with even worse supportThe worst financial management app I have ever used. They charge a bomb for the direct access (which now has a fancy name 2.0) that does not work with 90% of the banks in the world. I have spent over two months giving customer support screenshots after screenshots of the error description - yet the customer support acts like a bot giving you the same irrelevant info over and over again. Their practically non-existent customer support is the only thing that can top the shoddy app that Banktivity has now become. My data disappeared overnight, although I have a regularly synced document on their server that refuses to restore. I emailed customer support about this issue 3 days ago, and no one has bothered to respond. Do yourself a favor, and avoid this app at any cost..Version: 8.8.2

Constant Charges on UpgradesI’ve used this for years - I am though suspecting a con - there are constant upgrades and everytime new costs despite paying in full previously - this time there are subscriptions to use a product I previously bought and now cant use - be warned…....Version: 8.0

Trapped CustomerI like the software alright, but I only bought it because my Mac didn't support the old MSDOS-based software that I happily used for decades and that needed no upgrades. Banktivity has a lot of automated features that I don't want or need, but I have to pay for them anyway. Yet it still isn't as well-suited to my needs as that 30-year-old program I used on my Windows laptop. What I particularyly hate is that I recently upgraded my software and found that I now have to pay an annual subscription and for what? I don't need or want any of the features they are adding. And this year they increased their subscription rate by 56%!!! I am sick of software companies lure me in, getting me to invest hours of my time building my data in their products, and then holding me hostage to extort ever higher prices. As soon as I have a chance, I'm blowing the dust off that old software and setting it up in a virtual machine to get away from this ridiculous subscription racket!.Version: 8.7.10

Just Won’t WorkI can’t keep doing it to myself!! I get Banktivity on the Mac all balanced and then sync the iPad app, I then spend the next 4 hours re-keying randomly removed transactions from a small date range I have now deleted the app.Version: 8.0.5

Show StopperI am a user of the previous versions. I liked banktivity specifcally because I did not need to be in the "cloud" or have an online account to use it. I tried to use version 8 only to find that it requires an online account. The setup also requires direct access to your keychain. That did not sit well with me, so I stopped right there. I am sure the features and functions are wonderful in the new version, but I do not know since I can't get past the online account requirement. Once version 7 goes out of suppport I will likely go back to excel spreadsheets or find another product. UPDATE: Changing to three stars from one because the developer responded to my review and tried to address my concerns. Though, I am a bit old school and I have no interest in a subscription based service. What is the added value in paying a subscription? If I buy a bicycle, I use it until it no lnoger works for me. I don't pay a subscription for the priviledge of riding it - that would be rent. I do not requrie forced upgrades so that would not be an added value for me, and if a security upgrade is required ... well, let's just assume banking software has some solid security..Version: 8.8.1

Poor Communication and Direct AccessI used Banktivity 6 and 7 just manually putting in my transactions. I upgraded to Banktivity 8 but just used the free trial to test the waters on the changes before biting the subscription plan bullet since it is $70 for the plan I need. It links to all of my credit union accounts except for my credit card, which I use daily. A ticket was opened. It has been 6 or 7 weeks now. I emailed for an update with no response. Even though my free trial expired, I was going to still purchase the product and insert my transactions manually with the hopes the issue would get resolved but because of the lack of professionalism to follow up with me after 7 weeks, especially after sending them an email requesting an update, I am going with a competitor. It's unfortunate as I have enjoyed the product and understand from a development perspective that this is a big jump for the company so there are bugs to be worked out, but there is no excuse for poor customer service..Version: 8.1

Syncing Doesn’t Work and CS NonexistentI've haven’t been able to connect with several of my accounts for over six months now. Customer support continues to say they are working on a fix. I’ve gotten workarounds and have been told to try several things but never a real solution. I’ve seen their excuse “it is because of the politics of the bank and who gets access to the data, as opposed to a strictly technical issue”. I don’t care why it isn’t working, you’re charging me for a service that you can’t deliver. I believed them when they continued to tell me a solution is coming for months so renewed my expensive subscription. Now even more accounts are having trouble. This service I’m paying for just isn’t working. Why am I paying for something I can’t use? I contacted customer support asking for a refund since they’ve been unable to correct the issues I’ve had for more than half a year (and since renewed) and of course…crickets..Version: 8.8.2

UnreliableThis package was great, once upon a time. It used to do so much, was extremely reliable, and had a certain flexibility that other programs didn't have. Unfortunately, after having gone to an extremely bloated subscription model, this program has gone downhill. After signing up for a specific subscription level, the automatic population of transactions is unreliable and sometimes erroneous. They partner with Yodlee for access to banking systems and Yodlee forced me to authenticate two or three times with my credit card company just to get transaction data. The authentication protocol would take 5 to 10 minutes, so several times, I was waiting anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes just to see what my credit card balance was. Unreliable. Not sure what I'm going to do; this was my banking go-to, but now I can't trust it..Version: 8.7.5

Would be 5* but...This app could be a comfortable five star if only the connectivity in UK was improved. But unfortunately it does not support PSD2/Open Banking so cannot download any transactions from any UK banks. Also, it cannot download any mutual fund quotes from LSE and there are no live stock quotes (only end of day) even though the portfolio interface is configured for ive portfolio tracking. It is a great shame that the developer does not address these connectivity issues in UK, because otherwise this would be an easy 5* app as it is very good every where else and has an attractive design, especially on the iPad and iPhone. Overall, it is a massive improvement over the previous version. All the annoying bugs have been ironed out, and the sync between Mac and iOS versions is now reliable. I have paid the Gold subscription for one year but I really hope and expect that the connectivity will be improved otherwise I will have to go elsewhere then the subscription expires..Version: 8.1.1

Direct Access Does Not WorkUp until June of this year (2022), Direct Access would download information from HSBC accounts. Then it stopped. This issue was raised with IGG, and initially IGG seemed to be working on solving it. At least IGG communicated about things it was trying to do. On Sept. 7, I requested an update from IGG as I had not heard from it for a while and the problem remained. No response. Update requests continued all without response from IGG until Oct. 11. At that point, IGG offered a subscription voucher for the time I have been unable to download transaction information. I have not been able to download information for 5 months now. Frankly, I don't really care about a voucher. What I really want is for the promised service to be fixed. In reading the comments, it is not just me who is suffering from this problem, but those who bank with USAA also suffer. I can only imagine there are likely others as well. When will IGG actually take this problem seriously? Months have gone by . . . . ..Version: 8.8.1

Receipt managementA nice app for a nice service but wouldn’t you have a the option to add receipts to an iPhone app with a great camera? I would have thought this would have been a must!.Version: 8.2.1

Price Gouging International UsersInternational users are price gouged. Whole range of unusable US specific features such as cheque printing and Zillow house pricing have to be paid for before you can use the fairly common international need for multipe currencies. Stock prices are hopelessly random UK stocks can be priced correctly one day at say 0.35, then escalate to 35 the next before being repriced to fractions of a penny the next. If you like pricing stocks manually through a tiny little window with microscopic controls then this is the software for you. Did I mention that the subscription versus licence price is IRO 150% higher?.Version: 8.5.3

Sync issuesI use the Banktivity App on my home Mac as my primary finance tool. I download the Banktivity app for my iPhone so that I can take out transactions when I’m out and about. Then sync back to the home computer. But over the past two years after a month or two of using the app, the sinc has issues. The amount that I show in my checking account on my home computer gets off from the amount shown on my phone. Even after I verified both the home computer and my phone have synced. Then I even tried to wipe out the data on my phone and replace it with the data on the Banktivity cloud sink, but it is still off. My only recourse is to upload a fresh cloud sync document, wipe out my app on the phone and reinstall and get data from the new cloud sync. That is a lot of work and happens over and over again. I can’t figure out why my phone sync gets screwed up. And they have not been able to help me. I love the program and don’t want to stop using it, but I don’t know what else to do..Version: 8.1.2

Rip offThe developers are living in cloud cuckoo land with their pricing structure. £100 a year, every year to have even close to reasonable package for managing home finances. Look elsewhere - this product doesn't work properly, doesn't sync properly, fails to keep loan payments correctly, is not at all intuitive to use, is little league trying to charge professional big league subscriptions..Version: 8.2.2

Broken - IGG Uninterested in FixingThis was a favoured app until IGG decided to "improve" the auto-download of back data. The result. a process that took 5-10 seconds now takes 5-10 minutes on the rare occasion when it doesn't time-out and fail completely. IGG Support's only suggestion [3 months of open tickets] is to disconnect and reconnect every day/time another process that fails as often as it succeeds. The other suggestions border on the 'unplug your computer and restart" level of user contempt. IGG seems happy to collect subscription fees for a broken service it has no interest in fixing. DO NOT SUBSCRIBE..Version: 8.5.4

Persistently Poor User InterfaceI only continue to use this after 5-6 years because its mobile/desktop/cloud sync works, and reporting is appropriate to our tax reporting strategy. But from the start, it has been a miserable experience. The fact that they do NOT automatically enter a decimal point when entering amounts was a red flag when I first tested the product many years ago - that has never been changed. For me, every single step in data entry is as awkward as possible (and I've been doing personal banking with software since 1982) - the amount field is automatically highlighted first, and the user must deliberately select and edit the date. Selecting categories to assign, splitting a transaction for multiple categories, almost every data entry operation feels as though it requires the user to adapt to the software, rather than the software anticipating how the user might work. And none of this has improved as the product has continue to develop and change over a number of years. If there were a viable alternative, I'd drop this product immediately..Version: 8.7.2

Forced subscriptionsI bought this app a while ago, it now forces you to pay a subscription on top of thte app purchase fee. Very disappointed in this approach, I may as well use something like xero..Version: 8.8.1

New Aus stock feed missing PMGold.AU pricesSeems like the new daily close feed for Aus prices is problematic. PMGOLD appears to be missing. Not new, was listed end Feb 2013. There also seems to be a design error in the programing. The prices Banktivity shows (after Wednesday’s close in Aus), for Tuesday’s ASX close are actually Monday’s closing prices. While it would makes sense to show Monday’s close prices for US listed stocks due to timezone differences, it makes no sense to show Monday’s ASX closing prices for Tuesday’s close some 24+ hours after Tuesday’s actual close here in Sydney. Why pay for this stuff when it is so sloppy? Have been using since iBank days, over 18 years of paid upgrades and purchases. Very sad that new subscription model delivers poor value for Aus users, even poorer when stock price feed has holes. No point in upgrading until they introduce better subscription plans for Aus and others outside North America. Wow... now more than 2 hrs after Thursday’s ASX close and Banktivity is STILL providing Monday’s closing prices as the most recent. Who would pay for this?.Version: 8.0.3

Broken appThe 8.2 update has broken many things here most important is running slower than a snail and rarely connects online. Fix it ASAP.Version: 8.2

Poor Customer SupportI'll start by saying I've been a Banktivity user since version 5 (January 2016). When it's good, it's good. Over the past few years, I've had issues with my Direct Access connections. Sometimes you submit a ticket or chat in and things are fixed relatively quickly. Other times, like the most recent, your ticket goes for months (7 months) with no resolution. I realize that Banktivity is using a third party provider to run Direct Access for them, but it's their responsibility to push for a quick resolution for these issues. I am just completing a trial of a Banktivity competitor and I had the same difficulty with the same bank. I submitted a trouble ticket with them and the issue was solved within a week! So it's not that my problem couldn't be fixed, it was that they didn't care to take the time to fix it! It's now 3 years since the start of the pandemic and their support hours are still narrowed "due to staffing shortages" and a message warning of a delay in ticket response times. I've always been happy with the product over the 7 years I've used it, but when you're running a subscription service you need to have a strong Customer Support system for customers when something is wrong. A 7 month wait time on a support ticket is NOT customer service..Version: 8.8.2

New and frustrating issues in 8.3.xThe app now inexplicably fails to display your accounts and cloud file data on a weekly basis. Logging out and back in does not resolve the issue. Syncing to the cloud server simply yields a never-ending “Loading” message. The only way to resolve is to delete the app and reinstall, then open the cloud sync file as a new user. You them are forced to reset your default account, account display preferences, etc. Extremely frustrating. If there were viable alternatives in the App Store and my subscription was not valid through next year, permanent deletion would be a seriously-considered option..Version: 8.3.3

FlawedThe reports do not accurately reflect the categories of split transactions. I submitted a request to IGG to fix it over a month ago and apparently it is still in the queue for a 'bug fix'. Unimpressive..Version: 8.5.3

Very PoorI've been using iBank/Banktivity for many years, I fully agree with the comments about cost in other reviews - unacceptable. I tried to upgrade from Bankivity 7 to Banktivity 8 (before knowing about the cost), it was a disaster, sync was lost, file is apprrantley corrupted by a split transaction and after 3 weeks of very poor support I've given up and I will be switching to a new app. But will have lost my entire history. Thank you.Version: 8.0.3

So frustrated…I bought this program again (Feb 2021) after trying it awhile back and I STILL can’t figure it out. I need to be able to work off the phone app more than iPad or Mac and I just can’t get it to work consistently. I had everything all set up at one point only to have it dumping in dups that didn’t match up and so many other items from each account. Just too confusing. And yes I did all the Masterclasses and it all seems simple enough when watching but then I got all the extra items coming in. I even turned off direct access and tried staying over. Where is the basic direct access apps for a simple checkbook function??? I use to use Pocketmoney and all was good until it completely changed. Some of us just want to use a checkbook app with simplicity on our phones - that’s it..Version: 8.4.2

Non Existent Customer SupportI just began a trial subscription. I tried reaching out to their customer support with questions regarding my somewhat unique setup in advance of trying out the product. It took about 3 weeks to get a response. So, I signed up for the trial anyway. To date, the software is unable to communicate with either of two major financial institutions. I am told via email there is no voice support at all and that all support is provided via chat or email. There is no active link to chat on the Banktivity website and more recent email responses have ranged from days to hours. I am likely going to cancel before the trial ends unless someone at Banitivity reaches out to me with some basic level support to get up and running. Quicken has become a terrible product, hence my search for new software. So far, Banktivity is no better. Too bad, because it seems like the program has potential, but the total lack of any support whatsoever is likely a deal breaker for me..Version: 8.8.2

It’s beginning to feel tiredI’ve used Banktivity since 2012, and functionally it remains the best on the market hands down as others remarked here, for instance on multi-currency handling or budgeting. BUT While the developers took steps recently to improve the backend, specifically bank integration, it has been many years the app failed to advance on other fronts which can be summed up as a confusing hodgepodge: 1) User interface: just look at it, decidedly reminding you of 80x25 terminals with its slightly unwitting charm. No use is made of bigger screen real-estate on iPadOS, what you see is the same as on iOS. Yet the issues only start there: interaction is very screen-oriented, no “select object and see context information with a tap” or the like - you’ll be taken to another screen. Very tiring. The macOS version hasn’t far evolved either and fundamentally looks like it did ten years ago. Recently I was surprised to note that, in dark mode, budget progress bars (how much money is left) change colours from red/amber/green to a funny mix of purple/orange but then still red/green in places. Should be funny but isn’t. 2) Analysis: the reports offered on macOS are quite alright, but they simply don’t exist on iOS/iPadOS. Why? Query capabilities are restricted to pre-set options, there is no possibility to formulate Boolean clauses (AND, OR, NOT) freely. It wastes an important capability that would set Banktivity apart from its peers, and it limits user understanding of their finances. Also, categories cannot be assigned to security buy/sell transactions, which seems like an odd omission but can be really frustrating when you try to analyse your investments. 3) Forecasting: budgets, goals, reports, scheduled, and unscheduled spend are fundamentally disjointed: budgets let you understand what you’ve spent but they don’t let you project where you will be, for instance if you need to plan for a large purchase in six months. If you want to forecast where you’ll land you need reports which are only available on macOS. You can add goals which can be seen on iOS/iPadOS but only added/edited on macOS. But then there are your retirement goals which aren’t supported on iOS/iPadOS. Why? Also, when you forecast cashflow balances on your accounts the following happens: scheduled and unscheduled transactions are included but budget positions like “I'm spending £500 per month on groceries” are not. In what world does this help? In the end, the app gives off an impression of being supported by developers that haven’t done their homework in a long time or maybe, I don’t know, the makers don’t want to spend money on such matters. At almost £100 subscription fees per year that is really disappointing. More and more I find myself to try working around rather than with it. What a shame. Banktivity used to be a really helpful product and it still is, but it is no longer an impressive product, let alone joyful to use, and it is beginning to feel old and tired..Version: 8.6.2

From hero to zeroI've been using this app for years and used to love it as it was very flexible and complete. With the retirement of the paid app to their new subscription plan, the app has gone from awesome to disaster. I can't use my old files anymore. I can't synch my accounts with their new sync tool. If I want to add a saving account, I need to pay an extra for the silver membership. I have been waiting for months for the tech support to solve the problem. Delays are unacceptable. The support is useless. I have been sending the same procedure many times as requested and they've never been able to solve the problem. I've paid a full year membership for a useless software. It's now time to divorce and go elsewhere..Version: 8.5.3

ASX Stocks dont always updateLove the software except when it comes to my ASX stocks whereby I am still having to update the pricing manually at least half the time. The sysyem is not great for valuing US stocks in $A either. Having said that I wil continue to use and subscribe to the software as it is still the best available, IMO.Version: 8.4

AppallingAfter five years as a Banktivity user today I took the decision to bin this off. It was becoming more and more unreliable - the sync between my iMac and iPhone was increasingly incorrect with totally different balances across devices and hopeless reconciliation of accounts. When I realised they want 40 quid per year for a basic subscription they sealed their fate with me. Binned!.Version: 8.1

Avoid if you have other optionsI've been using Banktivity since the iBank days. It has improved a lot in the last 7 years. My opinion of other versions has typically been between "meh" and "it's good enough for the price." However, I now pay annually more than the one-time purchase price for software that is, at best, worth about half that. A few complaints listed here... there are many more: - I spend as much time fixing direct access import errors as I would simply entering transactions manually. In fact, today it has decided to download every transaction again... as a double. And when I delete the extras, it repopulates them a few minutes later. And I pay for this? - I have to have the more expensive option just to download stock prices??? Really??? - Scheduled transactions are clunky... my honest opinion of the process wouldn't make it past the moderators. I know every business wants to be software as a service and collect subscription fees. But this <explicative> is not there yet. My honest opinion of this software is that it's worth $30 as a one time purchase. I'll be dumping Banktivity for something better when the subscription runs out... maybe sooner..Version: 8.7.2

Disappointing shift in pricingI've been using Banktivity for years (right back to when it was called iBank!). Now looking for a subscription of close to £100/yr that was previously part of a £20 annual upgrade. This, despite service degrading over the last couple of years e.g. the stock service has changed and not all UK stocks work, e.g. BT won't update, and can no longer get Australian stocks. Why make this so expensive? I'll now have to limp along with the last reasonable version and hope that I can keep using the app - very disappointed.Version: 8.0.1

DisappointingFirst: Please understand you have to agree to a 30 day trial or buy a subscription to get past the pay wall for this app. Now, a short history. I have been using Banktivity on my Mac for a few years, but the past 8 months I’ve been way more intentional. I learned early on that the subscription that would auto download my transactions would download duplicate transactions which resulted in compounded work and confusion, so I’ve changed the way I use the program. But I love the program and the routine I have. It has truly had a profound impact on me thus far. Since I’ve been using the program more and more, I decided to try the app. Unfortunately, the file to which I backup doesn’t show as an option to upload. Even then, though, what ever option I choose on the menu takes me to a pay wall. So, by my estimation, unless I agree to a membership, I’ll never even get to see what it looks like. Of course, there’s the free trial, but even that only lasts for 30 days. And why try if I can’t upload my file? I know they need to make money (#merica), but I’m saddened nonetheless..Version: 8.0.5

Subscription model? No thanksWell, Banktivity 7 will be my last. When I saw there was an 8 now I went to check it out. Side note great job IGG letting your users who had paid for apps prior know there was a new version. Any way, where was I. Oh yes subscription model. No. Seven will be my last version. I paid quiet a lot for seven and even prior spent the money for the phone app (before it was free) and thought those prices were high until I saw the prices for the subscriptions. Wow. For those prices I better get a new version every year at most. These companies are following the trend that companies like Microsoft and Adobe started. It’s a bummer. I get prior versions had subscriptions for certain things. But I had the option to still have a fully functional check book app with all types of accounts with out having to pay. I just had to pay for some extra services if I wanted them (direct download and stuff I wouldn’t use). That is using server power and I understand that. But to have to pay a subscription fee just to be able to use the software for basic things like having different account types listed? Really? I have to pay extra money so I can keep track of my student loans? Or making a budget? Well sorry, I can tell you with out the programs help that paying hundreds of dollars over the years vs the one time cost of a version is out of my budget..Version: 8.1.2

Doesn't support UK usersThere is no OpenBanking API support, this means you cannot automatically download transactions into the App.Version: 8.1.2

Odd bugsThis does not sync accurately with the Mac app. Some stocks don’t show up, some show the wrong value so I can’t trust it. Used to work fine. Note you can’t automatically download transactions to this app..Version: 8.4.2

Beware the Annual SubscriptionIf you stop using this app and delete it, there is no way to manage your subscription settings or check them online. I was billed for a further 12 months subscription after I stopped using the app and beleived that I had stopped the subscription renewal, I could not change or check my settings as there is no online portal. After using this product for many years I eventually decided to switch to something else. Banktivity is really only set up for US customers with international cutsomers seen as an easy source of revenue. Billing is only provided in US dollars and Australian stock prices are unreliable to download. Good luck if you use the sync feature as you will constantly find mutlple mistakes will appear across the devices you sync with..Version: 8.3.3

IPad and iPhone apps are limitedIf you want to use the more sophisticated features such as budgets, reports or even setting up repeating, scheduled transactions you need a laptop. The iPhone and iPad versions are very limited in their functionality. This makes the annual subscription a bit excessive if you’re looking for something that works abs syncs across you devices. I have Banktivity 7 which works well on the Mac and iPhone. The iPhone version renders okay onto an iPad. I’ll stick with that until IGG up their game on the non-Mac versions..Version: 8.1.2

What was once great now isn'tI have been a Banktivity user since before it was Banktivity. It was always superb software. Then Igg software, the parent company, evidently decided to destroy what was once the best personal finance manager on the market. My issues are as follows: 1) the forced you to upgrade to a subscription-based model if you wanted to maintain connection to your banks, credit cards, etc. No problem! The software and functionality was so good on previous versions that I decided to go along. Until 2) all of the promised functionality of connecting and download transactions just... ceased. HOURS on the chat with IGG tech support making me feel like it was MY problem, only to find out that their "connection vendor" Yodlee couldn't connect to USAA (my bank). Last week they notified us that the core functionality that we expected and subscribed for is gone. Never to return. Go f--- yourselves, peasants. This software is, effectively an excel spreadsheet now, which is, in fact, exactly how Igg suggest we work around the problem: we simply download the transactions from the bank and import them into banktivity. Looks like I don't need banktivity for that..Version: 8.8.2

Poor - not worth considering outside of the USExpensive with bank integration that might justify the cost requiring third parties and significant additional costs. It's also very inflexible: it only exports to QIF and TIF. Not CSV or Excel. The tool is difficult to use and the categories are fixed and you can't create any of your own. For example there is nothing that covers loans to or from another of my accounts. The "integration" between accounts is appaulling. I tried setting up a pension account, but it treats the investments in there as cash (!) and there is no way to change that. The categories provided -the same as for a current account- are completely inappropriate for an investment or pension. Finally, the application, despite being sold in the UK store is horribly US-centric. No awareness of SIPPS or ISAs for example. Instead we have IRAs and 401(K) etc....Version: 8.7

Downgrade on previous versionI’ve purchased Banktivity for iPad and it worked fine. I’ve now bought a new iPad and can’t access my cloud files without paying a subscription. Being 8n the UK, I also don’t get the full functionality of stock prices or bank downloads - significant backwards step from Banktivity..Version: 8.0.5

Buggy, expensive, and holds your data hostageI used to like this product, and am unfortunately highly invested in it with 8 years of financial data. One feature I used to enjoy was automatic syncing between the Mac and iOS apps. To get that in version 8, you have to pay for the Silver (or more?) subscription. I tried the free Bronze and found that I could not edit my own ledgers without upgrading! The sync process is ugly to set up and cumbersome to use. you have to specifically remember to "sync now" on each platform if you make a change. Speaking of making changes, if you make an error in configuring a ledger, the "Revert Changes" button does nothing. The only way to exit the progam is to commit your changes. I supposed you can commit your changes to your local device and then overwrite that from their cloud sync, but what a pain. It would have been much simpler for them to put your document in your iCloud storage and let both devices read/write from there, but then they can't hold your data hostage for $100/yr. Oh, BTW, the data on the Mac side and iOS side don't exactly match. BUGGY!.Version: 8.8.2

What a Rip OffI've been using Banktivity for several years now. This is the second or third time that my copy of the app started getting glitchy, and in trying to fix, I had to upgrade. Each time another a fee was charged. This last time, three grades of service were offered with YEARLY Fees ranging from $49 and up. I selected the lowest, since I only use the app for my household monthly bills. When I went to print my checks, I was told that that feature was only covered by their premium level of service. Needless to say, I'm rather upset. These guys are only out for the money and they seem to have built into their app obsolescence so you have to rebuy their product periodically. If I could, I'd give them zero stars..Version: 8.1.1

Very poor support and solutionsI have been a Banktivity user for many years. I recently had a Direct Access problem with an account. After many days with no response, I reached out a second time for assistance. The solution was not able to be utilized becuase of an issue with a password protected account. The solution given was to send all my financial informaiton to the company and they would fix the account. When I told them I was uncomfortable with that solution I was told the ticket was closed. I am looking for another solution after having been a very long and loyal customer. How very disappointing. Should a soltuion be forthcoming (although I am not hopeful at this point) I will revise this entry..Version: 8.3.3

Disappointing after 10 yearsAfter a long time of committing to this app they are not able to repair a connectivity issue which was at the core of its functionality. They ignore my communications, they give no timeframe for repair and they do not have the capacity to respond to the problem. There is no reason to continue with this app, it’s time to find an alternative, they let me down..Version: 8.8

Meaningless to subscribeThe connectivity simply does not work with RBC (Canada). It duplicates and erases already categorized transactions. It is clearly an issue of RBC information, but the support team was not able to treat this. I needed to block the upload of the approved transactions of my credit card and wait for it to be classified as "posted" from the bank. In the end I was inputting the transactions manually and because of that there is no reason to subscribe for it. That was the 3rd time that I tryed to use their subscription service, but they were never ready or tryed to fix it for me and all other RBC customers. Now I need to find my way back to Banktivity 7 or to another platform. Positive side: the support is fast if they do not depend on the connectivity team. Still, they did not solve my problem..Version: 8.0.3

App good, Sync BadThe overall Banktivity app for iPad is quite good, it gives me what I need. You have to pay an expensive subscription fee to utilize the bank transaction syncing and downloads feature but unfortunately it doesn’t work. The subscription is an absolute ripoff. Even worse, Banktivity support is hopeless. I’m desperately looking for an alternative but there are a lot of garbage finance apps out there so it’s going to take awhile..Version: 8.8.2

Mac app seems to work ok, but not the iOS versionI have the Mac app working fine. But I just can’t get the iOS version to work. It just gets stuck syncing and never finishes..Version: 8.5.4

Another Non StarterLooks good if you actually manage to get past the sign up process. Then it triggers auto payment from Apple Store after the trial ? Password fail and after resubmitting new password it has not stored the latest one. Straight in the trash bin!.Version: 8.7.5

Poor Customer ServiceI have been using Banktivity for years and I was quite happy with the software until they changed to subscription model. I do appreciate they try to improve the software however I still encounter a lot of issues but no one is able to help me or resolve my issues. I raised my concern to Banktivity for months and yet no one seems bother to help me. I get the reply from Banktivity and was informed they will look into the issues. Weeks and months later, I still have no reply or solutions from them. I keep emailling them but still no solutions. It's frustrating that I paid for GOLD subscription but I don't get GOLD customer service. Very disappointing.Version: 8.5.4

Simply to pricey nowI’m a long running Banktivity user. The apps generally work well. However, the new subscription service is prohibitively expensive. I’m sticking with my paid up B7..Version: 8.1.2

Not great - Mac app is good thoughThe Mac app is a great, but this iOS app is not very helpful. Nine of the folders sync and you have to. Jew all your closed accounts. I can’t see the wood for the trees and will be removing this from my iPad..Version: 8.8

No UK SupportGreat shame that IGG is not making the effort to support open banking for its UK customers..Version: 8.1.2

Does not syncThis app does not sync between devices. Works in iPad but will not sync to iPhone. Tried everything but just says “loading” and nothing happens..Version: 8.8.2

Don't Bother with Silver LevelI tried to upgrade this year and boy are Investment and Mortgage accounts a mess. Everytime a contribution to my 401k goes in, it is recorded as a withdrawl, so the numbers value constantly goes down when new transactions are recorded, but when you add the account banktivity adds a giant offset to get it to where it's supposed to be. Then my mortgage counts each payment transaction as deposit lowering my mortgage principal, but only a third of the payment actually goes to the principal, so the value is constantly wrong an dyou can't make a rule to correct because the amount going to principal every month is different. Summary being, any automation and convenience you thought would come with paying $20 more for the silver tier actually just translates to more manual entry work for you..Version: 8.7.8

Too slowThis app takes forever to sync. It it then unresponsive when trying to navigate. There was a comment that provided 5 stars providing an excuse that you are not resourced. Use some of the money you charge though subscription (which isn’t cheap) and hire people to fix such fundamental issues in your app..Version: 8.2.1

DisappointedConstant problems with Direct Access. "Some banks take longer than others" is not really accurate, since problems arise with most accounts eventually. Been with them for years. Still better than Quicken for Mac, but I was expecting more when they started charging for most features I need. And if you have a problem and notify them by email, don' expect a quick nor detailed reply. What may be an easy solution takes days since it seems to be one email per day..Version: 8.7.11

Discontinued Support and Subscription ModelI had used Banktivity for 3-4 years and it did a great job at tracking transactions after I paid the 1 time fee. When I upgraded to iOS 14.5, my existing banktivity app says it needs to be updated and I can’t access any of the info within it. When I looked for an update I realized they changed apps completely and my years of data was lost. Had there been an app notification that after iOS 14.5 the pre-existing app was going to be inaccessible and obsolete, I would have found a way to back up all of my data. The fact that they also moved to a high priced subscription model was an additional slap in the face. The company screwed over longtime customers in the name of the dollar and I will not support those business practices and I encourage you to avoid them at all costs..Version: 8.2.2

UK Buyers BewareI never give 1 star reviews, most apps in my opinion don't deserve them. Here's my experience of banktivity AFTER I'd signed up to a silver subscription at £60 per year. 1. No Monzo, no virgin money. Bye bye any hopes of getting a current account working, but these aren't exactly fringe banks so why aren't they supported? 2. No American Express accounts for the UK. WTH? 3. No Hargreves Landsdown, so no hope of getting any investment accounts working without manual entry. (I'm not doing that in 2021 if I can help it) 4. Nice, there's crowdcube, at least I can automatically track my portfolio over there… error 403? Account unavailable for direct connection… I work in institutional investment, and given the time it took to get this up and running, plus the fact that you asked for money and then presented me with such awful service, I'd honestly rather go back to Excel. Please consider that some of your customers are very wealthy individuals, and you're unlikely to gain many recommendations when you (A) can't provide a decent offering of mainstream banks in the UK (excluding the big 6) and (B) can't even ensure reliable software connections to accounts you do support..Version: 8.1.1

Latest update and all accounts totally messed upSo until now Banktivity has been OK. Over the years I have spent many hours keeping my accounts up to date, balanced and checked. Just opened it today and all my accounts are completely messed up. All previous reconciled statements have missing transactions. I don't know where even to begin to try and resolve. My whole financial world is now upside down!!! I've cancelling my subscription immediately..Version: 8.7.10

Broken: IGG won’t fixBanktivity was my favoured finance app until mid 2021 when IGG “improved” the process for directly downloading bank data. The result was a process that formerly took less than 10 seconds now takes 5 minutes or more on the small minority of instances that it doesn’t fail completely. Banktivity support’s advice, to reconnect et al, sometimes works but must be done every time a download is attempted and takes 5-10 minutes. Not an acceptable workaround. The rest of support’s advice borders on the ‘unplug your computer and try again’ level. Banktivity seriously broke good software but is content to continue to collect subscription revenue while blaming the customer for its failure. Do Not Buy..Version: 8.5.4

Used to be goodI’ve used the product for about 5 years now. They moved to a paid subscription model last year. Worked fine for me as the online auto connect to the bank was one of my primary concerns. It used to work well. On Jan 19 I reported that it had stopped working. Customer Service was initially helpful. Initially. They now apparently blame another company. I’m told that they have a call in and they will let me know when they hear back. It’s been over two months. I email occasionally for an update and receive an automated message saying that my ticket has been re-opened. I will then get an email from the rep saying that he has a call in. No other info is provided, even with specific requests. I tried the chat feature, too. After waiting for about 30 minutes for a rep, they quickly found my ticket and said that the original rep had put in a call. That was all they could do. Did I mention that I PAY for this service? If you’re looking for a good financial software, don’t try this one..Version: 8.7.4

Bugs and no debuggingI have had this app for four years and have complained to developers constantly about a bug - which they never, ever fix. They write back and ask for details which I provide - then no more news. This has been going on for years - hopeless at debugging. In case the developers read this - the bug is that in investment summary the “one month change” is consistently hopelessly wrong. It is not even close to the real figure calculated by the OS parent app. Why can’t you fix this bug? I am really fed up - every upgrade I hope that they might fix this bug - but no it is always the same hopelessly wrong figure. And yes, have tried resetting the synch many times. So am leaving one star review due to their poor attention to detailed debugging..Version: 8.6.3

A very expensive update. Not worth it.I was so happy when version 7 came out - it did what I needed. Unfortunately since 8 has come out and the app automatically upgraded to version 8 there is a HUGE payment required to get the functionality that was available with version 7. So instead of a big payment per year I’ll just use it on my laptop and lose the versatility. If you are looking for a great app that works with British banks keep looking. The app is too expensive to contemplate using and there are better solutions. The developers have proved themselves out of the market. Time to look elsewhere..Version: 8.6.2

No Customer SupportI'll start by saying I've been a Banktivity user since version 5 (January 2016).

Improved interface but Direct Connect failures are a showstopperUpgraded to the new subscription based Banktivity 8 two months ago and immediately tried to set up Direct Connect to all of my financial institutions. Charles Schwab (the largest retail brokerage firm in the world) won't connect after two months of back and forth with Banktivity tech support. Problem is - IGG outsources the connectivty piece to a third party who can't or won't trouble shoot the problem. There are lots of Schwab customers out there - if they don't get this sorted out I and many others will go back to Quicken for Mac. Further - after functioning flawlessly for a month, Direct Access to my bank inexplicably quit working a week ago. Contacted tech support, they did rudimentary testing (basically told me to delete the connection and try resetting up the connection) and then when that failed indicated that forward the issue to thier third party Direct Connect vendor. Black hole....Version: 8.1
