Sonos for Negative User Reviews

Backward stepSorry guys. I never leave negative reviews but this new version of sonos is a big step backwards. It’s painfully slow. All I want to do is open the app to change song or change volume and it takes forever. Never happened with the old version. There’s really no excuse. You only have to do one thing - play music. Why not do that well? Forget everything else. Play music please. If I hadn’t already invested a few hundred dollars in the speakers i would have dropped Sonos already. I’m hanging in there but you ain’t making it easy guys. Please support your customers like me. We just want an app that works. Is that too much to ask for? Very frustrating!!!.Version: 12.1.1

GarbageThe speakers are amazing. The app is absolute garbage. It hasn’t even been updated or improved in the last 10 years..Version: 15.3

Constant IssuesThis app throughout the years has had so many problems doing it’s only job. I’ve been through 2 houses, 3 Telstra modems, multiple phones & every update all to continue having the same issue with this refusing to just play music. It keeps pausing for up to 20 minutes at a time & I never know when these problems will occur. There is nothing wrong with my actual speaker so it has to be the app. It’s pretty embarrassing to have a $300 speaker that won’t actually play music without it constantly pausing when people are over. I would never recommend this to anyone 💔.Version: 12.2.2

ConnectionLa connexion est complexe, le système se déconnecte toujours. Difficile à jumeler avec le téléphone et aussi en mode Bluetooth.Version: 15.3

Get back to basicsI have been with Sonos since 2009 but loyalty is seriously being tested now. First there was the absolute fiasco of the bricked speakers - a real slap in the face to all customers. Then there are the constant glitches. Right now I’m being told that I have no music services linked to Sonos when in fact I have Apple Music and it’s clearly showing in the menu. This is I’m just one example of the constant Sonos failures these days. Sometimes a speaker will drop off the network and I have to go round the house rebooting all of them! Another gripe is that selecting one song on an album on NAS drive to play queues up the whole album rather than just that song? Who thought that was a good idea to be the default option? Failing on the basics. Who knows when it will rediscover that I do have Apple Music?!.Version: 14.0.4

So disappointedBeautiful speakers when you can actually get them to play music. I have a total of 6 Sonos speakers throughout my home and I can only get 3 of them to work with the app. Terrible app connectivity since the upgrade to S2. Speakers constantly disappear and often require factory reset to reconnect to the app. Third part voice integration continually drops out. I’ve gone back to a basic Bluetooth speaker to listen to music. Sonos S2 just makes it too difficult to listen to music. A complete waste of thousands of dollars on hardware that is reliant on this terrible app. I feel disappointed and ripped off. Might be time to launch a collective class action against Sonos..Version: 13.1.3

Kinda wonder why they botheredIt’s effectively the exact same app, in an awful new colour. All this hype and wait and it still doesn’t fix basic functionality for voice enabled speakers. You STILL can’t run automated routines properly on Alexa. After all this time, the claim ‘works with Alexa’ on all the marketing and packaging for newer Sonos speakers is still basically untrue. The S2 controller was meant to unlock all this extra functionality and high def audio and use the firmware and hardware of new speakers...this was the reason you couldn’t run s2 on old speakers but it fixes nothing, looks the same, doesn’t fix Alexa routines but hey it comes in an awful new colour that’s not remotely related to Sonos devices which are black, and white. Why such a revolting baby p** yellow?.Version: 12.0

Stay with the S1This is the most buggy, disconnects all the time piece of software i’ve seen in a long time... don’t even try to reach someone for some help... I did download it in good faith but wish I didn’t, previously never had an ounce of problem with my two units, One SL... won’t let me go back to the S1 system....Version: 12.0.3

UselessI have a Sonos Arc & Sub, which are of great quality. However, this app is a completely different story. It has a very clunky interface that an intern could probably improve in a single afternoon. But it’s not even that that annoys most - the problem is that chances of the app connecting to the devices are 50/50. And what great help does it suggest when it fails to connect yet again? Restart my router! You must be joking. This is the only device in my house that has a problem and to suggest disrupting the Wifi for over half an hour each time (assuming the fix even works) just to use radio on Sonos is not serious. The fact the speakers work with my TV via HDMI is the saving grace otherwise I would have returned the whole lot to Sonos. To add further irritation, Sonos keep sending emails to encourage me to subscribe (yes, subscribe!) to Sonos radio. Quite apart from the fact there are hundreds of thousands of excellent FREE radio stations, why would I want to pour money down the drain of an app that hardly works when it’s needed?.Version: 13.0.5

Slow, buggy and often crashedSetting up system with surrounds and sub, very slow and buggy, often failed and I have to reset the individual speakers and started the slow process all over again. Sometimes crashed during set up which meant I also have to reset the speakers to redo the set up. Definitely not straight forward plug and play. During music play via app, dropped in and out too often. Nothing wrong with my internet/wifi speed as I can stream music to non-sonos devices or watch 4K movies smoothly with no problem. I don’t know whether it’s the app or the system but am thinking of returning this within their 100 days satisfaction guarantee period….Version: 14.19

So disappointedI’ve never wrote a bad review until today. It’s taken me 12 months to get to this point but I can’t take it much longer - Can’t fathom this out for the life of me. It won’t connect to my phone, then one minute it’ll pick the system up in one room but not the other two, then it won’t pick up any at all, then just one room I’m not even in. You try and show your mates a song that you’ve been wanting to play for the whole day - then you have to wait 10 Minutes by that time it’s ruined the whole experience. Don’t get me wrong, once it’s connected it’s the best thing in the world, but the inconsistency of the connectivity just puts such a downer on this mega product. Next plan is to try and hard wire the system into the house because as it stands this isn’t working well at all and I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of money. Hoping the hardwire will solve the problems we currently face so we can start to enjoy the system in all its glory! If it works I will be changing this review from 1* to 5* but until then my frustration has hit its peak. Thanks.Version: 12.2.5

Application toujours plantéeBeaucoup de problème avec l’application, Perd sans cesse ces connexions avec les services de musiques..Version: 15.3

What a rip offThis app has major stability issues sonos support do not understand the difference between a wifi mesh system and an extender. I have a mesh system which has the same ssid through the house. The app was working fine support tell me to go and rename each wifi device because i have different devices on my network. clearly no clue that a mesh system has the same ssid and is supposed to then he flatly refused to help me everything was working fine no changes my end and no other device/app has an issue except for this one but he would not listen. Coincidentally they did an update a few days back he did everything he could do to deflect from taking any responsibility even telling me to contact my service provider to help me with the only issue i have which is sonos. Lol how can I possibly recommend this to anyone? Sonos if you actually read this can some there give me some proper support? Also I unplugged the other wifi mesh point so its just the router now no other devices and guess what same issue- major stability issues so over to you sonos….. I expect nothing but silence.Version: 14.20

DownhillPains me to say, since the original app was quite good, that this app is now extraordinarily bad. Cover art doesn’t update for ages, the controls are unresponsive at times. Try adding a song to the playlist or editing it. A loading spinner appears and half the changes don’t stick, or just don’t display unless you reload the app. I’m sorry but I’ve never seen an app fall so far this fast. I’ve looked hard for reasons to upgrade to S2 but apart from different colours in the app, what’s different? Everything is less reliable and slower now. S1 nolonger working with my Playbar, sub and Play 5’s. What a poor experience that has left me sizing up other hardware brands now when two years ago I wouldn’t have looked away from Sonos. I don’t feel taken care of as a customer and now I also pass my thoughts on to those that I talk to. Change your strategy and get better..Version: 12.0.2

Gets worse and worseSonos speakers are fantastic quality but the app is unbelievably awful. It has recently completely lost the ability to connect to Apple Music for no apparent reason and this is not fixed by any amount of reboots. It still routinely fails to maintain connection to Audible even with a bulletproof internet connection, and routinely completely loses your place in the book such that you have to start again from the beginning and hop through. At the same time, it is also possible for the app to crash in such a way that the speakers will continue to play with no way to stop them, even if you switch your phone off. If you’re listening to Sonos when the phone rings, there’s no way to pause it before you answer, even though this has been a phone app for years and every other app with similar functionality can manage it. The alphabet scroller disappeared many months ago and has never returned. The UI is barely adequate and there are adverts. It’s hard to know what the development team is doing, but it’s pretty disrespectful to customers who have spent a lot of money on a home Sonos setup. If only it were possible to rate apps in minus numbers..Version: 15.1.1

Let down by stupid UI/UX issuesThe Sonos concept and system is awesome, and the network performance is pretty solid, but the software is full of annoyances. Setup is painful and inconsistent, and a long way from the old “hold down a button and wait a minute” days. You need to enable bluetooth even though Sonos works on your wifi network (obviously). You need to sign in, only for this to be randomly rejected. Adding another phone/tablet controller is randomly blocked. And of course you need a smartphone/tablet to do any setup - the pc/mac controller is a cut-down affair. With a completely different, superior UI to the mobile app. But at least you can laugh at some of the UI decisions. For example, what’s the best phrase to describe your favourite artists? According to Sonos, it’s “My Sonos Others”. Yeah, mostly great, some stupidity….Version: 13.4.1

Forced to use SpotifySpotify is the only streaming service it supports..Version: 15.3

Menu problemsI wonder if I have missed something.. To me the software is poorly designed, the features distributed haphazardly over badly named submenues making it hard to find what you are looking for. The controls offered to adjust the sound do not seem to do much if anything and the sound profile with screaming music and muffled speech so preferred by modern day filmmakers could not be adjusted satisfactorily. Update After a change of wifi network settings the software never completes the reconnection routine in this software. It really is terrible..Version: 14.20

Love the product, but the app needs work.Genuinely love the products Sonos outputs. Just thats it… Now they have your money they dont seem to worry about the rest. For a system of speakers that costs as much as it does, you would expect much more control. Also little things that just dont make sense, it never remembers your Tv source and reverts back to your qued music. That can be boring.. Tv auto play seems to switch itself on, causing sudden stops in music. If several people on your network have the sonos app, they have as much control as the OWNER of the system. Some days speakers will just not work, makes you wonder if an analog method suits better… Seems the software side of things needs buffing out. Thanks otherwise.Version: 15.4

Not so goodThe app drops out constantly after 2 hours of running..Version: 13.1

Doesn’t workI tried downloading S2 several times and I was never able to use it. Because of that I haven’t been able to use my Sonos bar for 2 months since S1 doesn’t work either. Very disappointed with this tentative upgrade of the app by Sonos..Version: 12.0.4

Pushing AdvertisementsNew version has quietly started pushing “special offers” – advertisements – in the app. And you can’t disable them. Sorry not sorry; I did not pay premium prices for your hardware for you to start monetising my time and attention. This is absolutely unacceptable..Version: 13.2.2

Unstable technologyI have spent many hours and $’s getting experts in to help connect our Sonos system. It is still flakey connects intermittently for radio and does not provide surround sound for tv and movies even though I have invested in the hardware. I strongly recommend you avoid Sonos. There’s got to be better options.Version: 14.14

Great when it works which is rarelyI have 9 speakers connected to my system. I can rarely get them all working at the same time. Music drops in and out, songs quit halfway through, and sometimes the app just doesn’t respond. It could be issues with my home wifi, but it is an expensive system that works for all of my other devices so I can’t see why it would be the culprit. I use the sonos app for iOS and MacOS and they are both pretty limited. They have few, if any, features to assist me in diagnosing where the problem is. I am continually stopping and restarting the app and rebooting my devices in an effort to get the music to stream again. I have spent a lot on this and am disappointed that I might have to dump it for a different system. When it is all working, however, it is fantastic and I often play different music in different zones. Fingers crossed a future update will fix these streaming issues or at the very least give me some diagnostic tools to help identify why the connection keeps dropping out..Version: 14.10

SonosWhen it works it’s great but some of the time it just won’t connect to phone. I might be being a little unfair as it is probably our internet.Version: 14.6.1

Terrible app, great beam!Too bad Sonos has to have an app(like everything else!) like we need more apps? Ugh! Anyway, the app is terrible. I just got my beam. My first sound bar recommended by my brother. The beam, great! Can’t say enough about it! The app? Terrible! I’ve only had it a few hours and the app has disconnected itself from the beam already four to five times! It does this every time I close out the app totally. I don’t need an app on constantly in the background! 🙄 Sheesh!! Plus don’t set your pair your remote (at least from dish) up with it. Otherwise you can’t turn the tv off n on!!?? Setting it back up, takes several steps! This is ridiculous! I mean, really, Sonos? This is the best you can do? Plus, Sonos wants access, if you add your music services to take away or change as they please? WTH?!! And what happened to trueplay? I know others are complaining online, there has been no news on that. I got two recommendations for the beam. My brother and a tech. But they forgot to mention the app issues!! So right now, I’m still on the fence about keeping this expensive (yet cheaper version of the arc) just because of a stupid, clunky app! This app, keeps getting less stars from me all in one day! Get it together Sonos! I’m using this on new iPad Air 4 if that matters. Not that they read reviews apparently. Since I see no reviewers have gotten a response yet! Enough said!.Version: 13.3.2

PointlessI tried it and went back to S1 immediately... Glitchy, asked me to set up my speakers again... So disapointing from Sonos, you were leaders in 2010, but have dropped big time. APP is so pointless. Don’t download this beige app people!.Version: 12.0

Extremely frustratingThe app is ok for most features, we get to understand the main functionalities after some time and thanks to a proper onboarding. But the app lacks a simple, obvious feature : turn the home cinema link off some way, which would be especially useful for the Arc, as it unfortunately takes over most recent LG OLED TVs’ audio outputs every 2 seconds or so. So once the Arc is plugged to the tv with the hdmi link, the TV can longer work with Bluetooth headsets. Another use case that Sonos did not anticipated: let’s say one wants to play games on the TV while others want to listen to music, let’s say in a party. In that situation we would want to choose the TV speakers as outputs, and someone would play music to the Arc through Bluetooth. But as LG representatives told to me after several attempts, the Arc does not properly communicate its address/status through the hdmi connector, driving the LG TV confused. That’s a real pity because the sound of the system is extremely good, and the two configurations living together (one for theater mode and one for music mode) is a kickass feature that I love. If only that CEC functionality could be tuned so that the Arc lets the LG TV choose their outputs at will, that would be a good app..Version: 15.3

Do you even performance test, bro?Update 15/12: This SONOS product is more of an OHNO(S). Avoid like the plague: constantly drops out on same wireless network none of my other devices have problems connecting to. As a consequence the alarm often doesn’t go off AT ALL or plays the incessant Chime tone which makes me want to go postal. I’ve resorted to setting a second alarm on my phone - which defeats the point of having an alarm on a Wi-Fi speaker, no. Absolute worst. The app is buggy as hell and constantly pauses, stops, forgets what it’s doing, goes and makes a cup of tea etc. Pitiful. Worst thing I’ve ever bought and I owned a Fiat Panda once. Older review: This app is possibly the worst preforming app I’ve ever had the misfortune to need to use. I’ve spent the last 25 minutes ridden with insomnia just trying to change my alarm time for the morning. The app either randomly crashes and kicks me out or takes 30 seconds or more to even enable the System menu or just does not respond at all. How is it this hard to change an alarm setting / use an app?! And, no, my connection is fine given I’m seamlessly playing a podcast via the speaker. Honestly, get some performance testers you tight arses and get them to test. Or set yourself some decent SLAs. Or check your crash reports. T. H. E. W. O. R. S. T..Version: 14.20

Sonos is mediocreThe search for artists/albums function sucks. The add speakers works when it wants to, which is way less than is should but the speakers sound good. It’s like my wife, tough to deal with but superb when the stars align..Version: 15.3

Loss of my radio stationsI have loss my command to tell my Sono’s to activate my Radio stations. Pls. Help me out..Version: 15.3

Sucks againAs usual Sonos your app drops my player over and over again.Version: 15.3

S2 Sonos app is buggy and unresponsiveIn general, I am a big fan of my Sonos speaker system, and I found the previous iteration of the app to work consistently and well. I only had to replace one piece of hardware in order to switch to S2, which I did relatively happily since I’d gotten years of use out of the system and understand that companies can’t support hardware forever. However, I’ve been really disappointed by the new app and/or S2 platform. When I try add or remove speakers to/from groups in the app, I get frequent error messages. Restarting the app sometimes helps, but usually I have to keep trying 5-6 times before I am successful. The app also freezes periodically. Probably not an app issue, but streaming overall is less reliable, with much more frequent drops. I haven’t changed any other aspects of my home network, so I attribute these issues to the new S2 platform. Unfortunate and frustrating given my large investment in the Sonos ecosystem and excellent experience with the previous generation of the platform. Hopeful that the new platform improves over time, but irritating that it wasn’t more stable when released..Version: 12.0.5

They do not know what they are doing. This review also applies for the desktop app because that’s not even in the App Store. Instead of creating upgrades they make you download entirely new apps and then go back to the original app what is that??? As other radio is appointed out the UX is absolutely horrible, and it always has been, it’s not improved at all. They apparently don’t consider that part of that product design somehow. I would never buy another Sonos product because of this Tomfoolery, and I have repeatedly advised friends not to buy one. It is absolutely not worth the money and it’s such a hassle. there are much better systems out there that have much better experiences. Now I just play directly from my Mac on my iPhone — I don’t care to use their UX anymore after the latest shenanigans. I could’ve gotten a better system for the same amount of money which will last longer and this is frustrating..Version: 13.0

SystemI’ve had issue after issue trying to access my system to configure my settings. Disappointing.Version: 15.3

Sound is lost when Apple TV is on Screen SaverWhen Apple TV is on Screen Saver and MENU button is pressed to watch another or same movie there is no sound. The Apple TV has to be turned off and turned on again to get the sound. This did not happen with the previous app..Version: 12.0.1

New app is very buggyThere are so many problems with the new app that I don’t know where to begin. 1. The app doesn’t see the TV sound bar reliably. 2. Frequently you can’t play any sources other than Sonos radio 3. Sonos radio has people talking between tracks, very annoying even if they were to be clever 4. Sometimes the app just spins when you open it. 5. The app often forget stereo pairs and I need to set them up again. 6. The support self service just takes you to a page with all the information they think you need but it is never there. It would be better to have a workflow that would progress based on answers to questions around problems like the ones above. Update: The above comments hold and now I updated to a Sonos port to add a Pro-ject 1 turn table which needs to be grounded. The port doesn’t have a ground which puts my very expensive and high quality speakers at risk. As alway great idea with fatal flaws. If you do go Sonos maybe don’t have a system as large as mine (port, bridge, move, roam, 5.1 surround plat bar, two other stereo pairs, a play3 and a play5. When the whole system works, it sounds great..Version: 14.4

Good speaker BAD appI don’t use my speaker a lot, but I’ve had it since 2017. I believe it is 8/10 I go to use the speaker and the app, I have to update AND reauthorize. A few times it makes me do the whole walk around the room beeping thing. I am such a casual user that I really feel impeded by this. I just want to listen to some music now while I paint, instead I’m standing at my speaker once again trouble shooting to make it work. Almost every single time I want to use it. THATS what is trusting to me. If I didn’t have to update it and authorize it on a near constant basis, I would give 5 stars. But all I want to do is open and play. I don’t understand why that’s so hard, that’s how speakers and music players of any kind worked before. On, play. This is a 20 minute tech support quest almost every time, sometimes I’m like “f* it, I’ll turn on the TVs music channels instead because they just play” Otherwise I love it. The sound is good and I’m really happy, except when I use it. 🤦‍♀️ The next time I purchase one of these speakers I’ll be looking at these reviews first, because I wouldn’t buy another one that does this..Version: 14.3

Good but not greatApple Music integration is woefully lacking in all the features compared to the native Apple Music app. I’m not too sure if this is a limitation of the Apple Music API, or Sonos integration, but it’s enough of a small cut that it makes daily use just a little harder than it has to be. The physical products at top tier though! Sonos speakers remain the gold standard for no fuss home sound systems..Version: 13.0.4

Was working fine....Now it continues to drop speakers off my system. Something happened at Sonos, it’s almost like some important knowledgeable person left... Miss the old app, I could easily use my laptop. So a few things changed my former 5 star rating..Version: 13.1.2

Great Speaker, Awful ConnectionI have 2 Sonos Ones and the sound for them is fantastic… However, this review isn’t about the speakers, this is an app review and the app is painful to say the least. It constantly loses connection to the speakers when I’m not using them (for example, over night) so then the next time I do want to, it’s like kicking a splinter under your toe nail to get everything to connect back up again. It can somehow find the speakers I have on my network and ask if I want to connect to them… but then will never actually connect. So it becomes a half hour (or more) of suffering before eventually giving up and trying again the next day when I want to listen to some music again. You may be thinking “oh but that could just be a bug with the app right now, surely it won’t happen for me?”, oh you poor sweet summer child… it will… the app has been losing connection to my speakers for about 5 years now and Sonos have not fixed it yet. This app is like the printer of the sound app world - great when it works but it seldom ever does and acts like a stroppy teenager when you ask it to do literally anything… if you have the choice of Sonos or any other brand, do yourself a favour and just don’t bother with Sonos..Version: 15.4

Sensational sound system…if only I could actually listen to my music!Firstly, I just want to say that the actual hardware products - various speakers, subs, playbar etc are amazing. The sound is beautiful, clarity perfect and the bass in brain-jiggling of turned up high enough! All combine to a wonderful listening experience, no matter the genre or function - it’s changed how we enjoy films! However…the app is AWFUL. The kicker is - there’s no other way to play your music except through the app. You can’t just sync up your phone via Bluetooth or the WiFi like other sound systems. You HAVE to use their app. It’s so buggy it’s unreal. And it’s been this way for YEARS. I keep hoping they’ll finally fix it so I can actually just open the app and listen to some music. The app interface is poor, but most infuriating is that it constantly ‘forgets’ my products, meaning very often I’m going through a lengthy pairing process each time I want to listen. It may happen on the first try, or it might take five attempts to pair, by which point 15 mins has gone by, the Ethernet cable is out and cluttering up the room in an attempt to wire connect it to the router…and then I give up and put my AirPods in. When it does work, it’s awesome. For the price I paid though, I don’t expect a clunky, maybe-it-will-maybe-it-won’t experience. I expect seamless and elegant. If I ever change my sound system, it won’t be for another Sonos set up..Version: 14.18.1

I hate Sonos…Okay here is my genuine experience with no exaggeration. I have Sonos Arc, the Sub and 4 x One’s. The speakers all sound good - that’s not the issue! They’re not amazing but very good. Bass could be a bit more solid but generally good high to low end. The painful torment of persistent updates that brick my system is the real issue. Because it doesn’t matter how good something sounds if it doesn’t make any sound when you want it to. Yes, I am a digital expert, I know how to troubleshoot the issues and always have to run a 30m Ethernet cable to each device to update them because Sonos error 30 plagues my system via my Telstra 5g router and I have tried other routers too! Trust me when I say I’ve tried everything and spent so many hours doing useless updates for no real gain. I hate you Sonos. I will sell the lot and buy and competitor offering that can update wirelessly without frequent issues OR a good old fashioned system that doesn’t require updates. Again, in case it wasn’t clear - I hate Sonos. Don’t purchase. Stay away..Version: 15.1.1

App is shockingI have had several sonos products for years now. The quality of the sound produced by Sonos is exceptional. However, the app is shocking. I have lost count the number of times the app will not function correctly. For instance the app will not open properly stating that there is no wifi connection. I have tested the wifi and it is working fine. I contacted Sonos and they reiterated that it was a problem with my wifi even though I was getting speeds of 70+ mps. I ended up changing my broadband provider and increased the speed to 120+ mps. However, the problems still persist! Even more annoying is when the app works I can be listening to music then decide to leave my home. However, the app has crashed again and I cannot turn the music off!!! The only way I can turn the music off is by turning the wifi off!!! There was once a time when I used to rave to my friends and family about Sonos. Though days though unfortunately are well gone and I no longer recommend Sonos to anybody..Version: 14.20

I bought a system and you only deliver speakersFOMO made me do it. I thought that at one stage S1 products would be sent to Sonos heaven and I’d be left with the corpse. I took the bait and used my upgrade credits to get new gear and S2 functionality. What a struggle. 2 days of resetting, reconnecting, wifi restarting, button pressing fun. Eventually I have connected the 2 ones and 2 fives and sure they sound great… when they connect. The app takes anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds to find the system and has even totally forgotten I own any Sonos gear at times. I’ve bitten the bullet to connect another phone via the app to the system but I’ve not been successful. It scares me when it can’t find the system and asks me to reconnect speakers as I don’t have another 2 days in me. Sonos, you sell a system not speakers. Everyone who has commented on here with app issues has paid at least $500 for the pleasure. The app is an integral part of our purchases. Just because it’s “free” on App Store it doesn’t mean you get to support it poorly. A sign to me that you don’t think the app is important is that no one from Sonos ever appears to comment on any of the feedback provided here. Very disappointed about my “upgrade”. The real world experience and the poor performance of purchased components is probably a breach on consumer law. I’ll consider downgrading to S1.Version: 14.20

SucksWon’t connect 3 speakers properly only can get 1 to connect at a time.Version: 15.3

Continual connection issuesThe app itself isn’t too bad, but it’s connectivity is pretty shonky. I’ve had my Sonos system running on different networks in different houses and it has always struggled to find my speakers - but in a random enough fashion that I can’t find any straightforward solutions aside from resetting my system. The speakers fail to appear in the app and I get error messages about not being able to find my system - which when I click through end up telling me nothing useful. Frustrating, as when it works it’s good, but you never know when it’s going to pile in. Update: having installed a new router, the Sonos app has me running around the house trying to add each Sonos back on to the system - it’s like spinning plates. You fix one and the others drop off the app completely. I really don’t know what you have your software team doing, but it’s not making a user friendly system..Version: 13.1.2

Amateur hourSome of the design implementation in the new version feels extremely poorly done. The slide up panels and their background appear with a jarring effect, the floating now playing around is offset on all sides except the bottom, and we still don’t have a dark mode? Picture this, I’m sitting in my lounge with the lights out listening to Pink Floyd and I just want to change the bass settings...great now I’m blinded by the shades of grey that have been picked to bore us to death. Functionally the app is fine enough but there needs to be some serious focus on the last 10% to bring this app up to standard. If you’re going to create your own design language it has to be better than what you’re given for free in iOS, presently it is not..Version: 12.0

Can’t set it up. Won’t connect!!First of all, I am a HUGE SONOS fan. I have had Sonos products for almost a decade and have never had any issues with any of them. I preordered the new ARC sound bar and got it delivered on June 11th. Today was the first day I was able to get to it to set it up. I converted to the S2 app and the upgrading of my old system went very simple and smooth. Then it went downhill from there. My ARC will not complete the set up process. I start with adding a product. The app recognizes the new sound bar. It tells me to press the connect button and listen to for the sound. The sound plays....and then the app just hangs up and doesn’t finish the process. It comes up with an error and then says it can’t find the product and blames it on my network. Super frustrating. I have 10 other speakers and they are all working fine on the new app. What is really frustrating is when you realize you just spent over $900 on a new sound bar and have several thousand dollars worth of SONOS gear and they don’t have 24/7 customer service. It is Saturday and now I have to wait until Monday before I can make a call to customer service to try and get this working. I believe it is the new app that is to blame. I have never had this issue in the past with any of my SONOS products. Very Frustrating..Version: 12.0

Seems to be getting more flakyI’ve got 3 Sonos products and generally have been quite fan over the years with the app experience, sound quality, multi-room sync and general ease of use. However increasingly the system keeps being very flaky. It frequently can’t find the speakers in the system (despite them being discoverable through the Alexa app), the app keeps freezing, playback gets interrupted, ‘an error’ (no further details) keeps occurring when trying to select songs etc. It works fine about 70% of the time, but this is down from a generally flawless experience in the past, so is a bit disappointing. I don’t THINK it’s down to an issue with my wifi or network, as the Alexa speakers we also have do seem to work (and can cast songs to the Sonos speakers). I want to like and support the Sonos system (and justify the premium cost over the years), but I think it’s probably becoming a bit less of a compelling purchase now..Version: 12.0.1

Just let me login to accountTotally sick of speakers dropping out and not given option to simply log back in. Instead you get find speakers and if you live in a multiple account set up it will grab someone else’s login which you cannot move away from or override to put your email in. No idea why you would make access this complex...just have speaker set up on login /account and easier reset. It is bad enough speakers and rooms drop out but making sorting it overly complex is simply poor..Version: 12.2.7

Surprisingly disappointedThe sonos speaker is really nice clear sound , all good there, when you have an app to be able to listen your tunes and been unable to do so is disappointed, contacted the sonos team but unfortunally is only a automatic system that lacks tha ability to answer simple questions, the app only offers other platforms to listen alternatively different radios and variety of apps, but if that was the case you get a radio, but this is a speaker and you would spect to listen your own collection of music, YOUR OWN MUSIC LIBRARY with no problems or offering subscriptions that you don’t need, maybe that is why JBL speaker are bigger on demand for the simplicity of switch it on and play in less then a minute your own library, this app should allow you to see your own library with out the need to subscribe to Apple Music for £9.99.Version: 13.0.2

My Play 1 is ObsoleteThanks to the updates with these apps, my Play:1 is obsolete. I can no longer connect to my speaker, because the set up menu no longer offers the “alternative method.” In the past I set up my speaker with an Ethernet, and afterward I was able to connect through wifi. But now neither this or the older app will connect. It’s such a shame, I have a perfectly good speaker that has worked for me for years, but I can’t use it because of new app/connectivity issues. The info on the Sonos website (from the link that the setup menu prompted me to read) is also out of date, and refers to options/messages that no longer appear in the setup process..Version: 12.0.4

Wasted $2000Purchased a Sonos ARC, Gen 3 Subwoofer, and 2 Sonos One speakers to use as surround sound. Owner then for about 6 months and loved them but then I moved to an apartment where the provide very fast internet. I routinely get 600mbps upload and download, and they are using Ruckus access points. Unfortunately they also use ip isolation and because Sonos insists on only being setup on a network that has an active internet connection I can not use my Sonos speakers for surround. Luckily I can get the ARC it’s self to connect to my tv but the app can’t find it so I can’t tune it or use any network features. If Sonos would enable an offline mode and allow me to connect it to a local network without internet then I could use my $2000 sound system the way I want, but it’s typical big tech forcing an online connection because they think they know how I want to use something. Probably making sure they have access to your data so they can sell it. Before this experience I’ve sold several thousands of dollars worth of Sonos products through the retailer I have worked at for 15 years. I now try and push Sony products for sound bars..Version: 14.12

So Many Problems with S2 appI have had 13 sonos devices sense gen 2 came out, like 3 plus years. Everything worked perfectly never a problem. It was easy to add a new product. Perfect. I even had it on the 5G of my dual band network. Then S2 upgrade happened. I have speakers disappearing. I have some of my speakers showing up on different networks. To add a new device forget it. It is such a non friendly user process. I read that sonos does not support 5g. Ok so I tried to change networks to my mesh network. I thought I got it. No I can’t get my play 5, playbar or sub to work with the rest of the system. I have restarted my system, reconfigured my router. Nothing had worked. And depending on the phone I use different devices show up on different networks. I hope there is some improvement to the app, because this has taken way to much time to try figure out. I just want my perfect sonos system back to enjoy all over the house and backyard. Update Ok I am going to give it another star. After discussing my issues with a friend he recommended using my orbi router only. Once I went from 3 networks to one the devices went to one. After a day it seems to have smoothed out. Updates can still be a problem takes a while. I am still not convinced of the stability but we will see. At least I have everything set up like it was..Version: 12.2.2

Connection IssuesTrying to select Sonos speakers out of the Spotify app results in errors. The Sonos app will often show music playing but there’s no sound. Porting over from S1 was hours of trouble shooting. Garbage..Version: 12.0.1

Slightly Nicer LookingIt’s basically the same app, but looks more like ios13. Functionality hasn’t been improved in any noticeable way..Version: 12.0

Disappointment since dropping play direct from iPhone optionI am totally disappointed with constant drop outs of audio which makes it so frustrating to listen to music that, in anger, I switch the whole system off. Whether I use wifi or sonosnet, the situation doesn’t improve. Given that the 2.4Ghz band is very crowed and only 3 channel options are available to sonosnet, it is beggars belief that there are not more options made available. I never had issues when I could play music directly off my iPhone direct to the speakers. Please Sonos bring this feature back, leave it up to us to decide if we want to use it or not, but it worked. As for the app updates, pretty looking albums don’t cut when you can’t listen the uninterrupted music. Are we here to look at pretty pictures or listen to awesome music? Concentrate on making the streaming options the best they can be, not making album covers the main topic. We want our music streaming back and we deserve it now. I’ve spent thousands of dollars putting Sonos throughout my home and my better half thinks it was all a big waste of money. All I ask is bring back the play direct from iPhone option for us to decide if we want to use it, not tell us it didn’t work when it did..Version: 13.2.2

Temperamental appOften not available via wi-fi. Beam needs to be unplugged to reset. Sound cuts in and out. Alexa function needs to be reset all the time..Version: 13.1.4

Older speakers useless with app upgradesBeware of Sonos rules where they disconnect your ability to play through the older model speakers, despite them being in perfect working condition. To force you to upgrade to newer models of their speakers (at a super high cost compared to their competitors) they drop your ability to use the older speakers by making them incompatible with their app upgrades. So for a while I had to run two different versions of the Sonos app just to play on two different speakers (older model and newer model) - which defeats the whole purpose of Sonos which is to be able to sync multiple speakers through your house. And over the past year I can’t event get the original speaker to work through the app at all. It’s now basically a paper weight - despite having no technical issues with the actual speaker. Out of principle I ain’t buying another speaker. Other far cheaper brands are much easier to use and can sync together throughout the house..Version: 15.3

Pairs always out of syncHave two fives and they are always out of sync if you use high quality music stations. Not worth the money!.Version: 14.8.1

Not for meThis system simply frustrates me. Firstly I have to have my phone charged and with me before I can listen to music. Then it has to be set to the right internet server or it won’t work. Then Sonis and Apple have some agreement where I have to pay if I want to listen to more songs than are on my phone. Navigating their system doesn’t impress me either. I just hate it..Version: 12.2.2

DisappointedVery disappointed with this system. Yes on the rare occasion when everything is working the sound is great, but the problem is 90% of the time I spend half the night trying to connect the speakers. They are constantly dropping out, especially the Sonos sub and the Sonos One left and right speakers. It’s very rare that I turn on the tv and all speakers are working, there is always at least one that has dropped out and to tell you the truth it’s really starting to p$&$ me off!! This problem needs to be rectified immediately, for the money you charge for your sound system it is just not good enough!!.Version: 14.4

It is soooo unreliableI am not sure why the connectivity is so bad. The connection will drop out in an unpredictable manner. It is then impossible to reconnect without closing the app you are listening to. This is despite upgrading home Wi-Fi systems. It makes the listening experience the opposite of relaxing. I could not recommend this product..Version: 14.16

Upgraded to new S2 for nothingI’ve had Sonos for years in the whole house (8 zones). So, like everyone else, was shocked when they announced they wanted to end the S1 range (about 60% of my kit). To justify the demise of S1 they stated the processors were to slow, they wanted to introduce hi-res audio. So I thought; fair enough. What rubbish. We’re now about 1 year on. My entire house is S2. What amazing new audio capabilities do I have? none. Even worse; What Hi-Fi have rated the fidelity of the new devices (ie Sonos Port) as worse than their predecessors. Personally, I can’t tell the difference. The only change so far -the hi-Fi devices (Sonos Port & Amp) are twice the price! Both still are only 2.4Ghz Wi-Fi (instead of 5), so I’ve still had to hardwire them over Ethernet to stream losslessly from Deezer otherwise it drops out. Interface is still sluggish (on my new iPhone too!) And now I have Sonos trying to clamber onto the software-as-a-service bandwagon by trying to take over the Radio service with a monthly £7.99 subscription to listen to one of six new radio stations! Why I’d want to pay Sonos to play me the music they choose over me playing the music I choose is anyone’s guess? I did try to replace them. A lot of devices sound better but app user interface still looks better. But I didn’t buy Sonos for my eyes, I bought it for my ears. My eyes are still watering from the upgrade cost - when will my ears hear any difference Sonos?.Version: 12.2.3

So disappointingJust bought and powered up. Sound very tinny and speaker crackling even though not using full power by any means. Feels like a $50 product!.Version: 14.20

Slow and laggyWe’ve had Sonos products in our house since 2010 and love the quality of their products. However, this app is terrible and is definitely a step down from previous apps. Our issue is this: if we want to select a song from the current queue that we have on the go, the app takes an age to get there. The app just seems to freeze and probably takes about two minutes before it finally decides to play the selected song. It does get there in the end, but the delay in getting there is beyond frustrating. We have the app on both our phones and iPads and it doesn’t seem to matter which device we use, the same thing happens - this interminable delay before Sonos finally plays the song. Once the app is ‘up and running’ as it were, we can select songs no problem; it seems to be when we are trying to select a track ‘from cold’. Pretty sure it’s not our WiFi as everything else works fine. Not sure if it’s connected to latest Apple software update, but either way it needs fixed..Version: 12.1.2

High latency GUI experience, buggy app, speakers audio drop randomlyWhile I love my Sonos speakers when they work. I never recommend my friends invest in them. Whenever I try to give a demonstration of my sound system things fall apart. That’s all it takes to convince them not to buy Sonos. In fact, I inherited a brand new 5:1 setup because my ex-roommate didn’t want to deal with the hassle and unpredictability when she moved out. It seems like Sony Atmos would have been a better idea. I have to close and reopen the app even if I just need to make one simple adjustment after jumping to a different house. This happens across multiple devices. I really wanted the ability to listen to music and or the TV as I walk amongst my house I am mad just makes each speaker individually intermittently on reliance with lots of dead air and speaker drops. To avoid any audio sync issues the resolution is to turn your wireless speakers into…..a fully wired speaker system. Avoid wasting your money on planned obsolescence expensive hardware..Version: 14.18

Do not under any circumstances use this appIt’s utterly awful. I unfortunately and inadvertently downloaded S2 and cannot now use a perfectly decent gen1 play5, and at least every 4/5 days the system which it now plays on ( a play 1 and sonos1) will not be found by the app and irrespective of trying the “let’s fix it” icon I have to reset and reboot the whole system and router. This takes anything between 1 and three hours and usually involves factory resetting both the above devices. I am on BT with the WiFi discs, and so far this issue has ruined music at two events ( in the garden!) we have hosted post lockdown. Until S2, I was a fan of this system but this is frankly a joke. It worked perfectly well before. I have contacted Customer support who suggested a re boot.... Be very cautious when buying these products and thus app. I have resorted to Bluetooth via my 5.1 surround which works perfectly..Version: 13.1

Was greatKeeps dropping speakers was great until new router that came as the same day as the software upgrade now can’t keep speaker going on wireless.Version: 12.2.2

Long overdue reviewAlong with growing my hair long as a teenager, getting my ears pierced, listening to boysIImen and thinking a goatee was cool my Sonos system has become one of my big regrets ;) I feel I’ve aged 20 years by using (or trying to use) the app, it disconnects constantly and I think I’ve spent 19 of those 20 (imaginary years) on trying to fix it than actually listening to music....can’t change songs when you want to, turn music down when you get a phone call or even turn the music off...need to walk up to it and press the button...though I’ve never been a fan of the app, poor design and awful search function, my biggest gripe in the past was that it seemed to always need an update (which by the way couldn’t be done in the background but it froze the whole system in silence as it did it) Now it’s worse than it’s ever been as it constantly...really! Constantly!...disconnects...bottom line is, would I ever invest in Sonos again? Not a chance, probably more likely to grow my hair long, pierce my ears and get a goatee..Version: 12.2.6

Should’ve Listened to the ReviewsI disregarded all the bad reviews and thought I’d take a chance, now my devices are in a perpetual state of ‘updating’ 😡 ... I’ve usually been able to get the previous Sonos updates to go through, but not sure what’s going on this time, not happy with their upgrade attempt and having to put up with all the ads in the recent releases. I gave their new music service a try as well for which I was hopeful, but it left me very unimpressed. I’ve always liked the Sonos devices, but not happy how they force you to upgrade leaving their older devices useless! I’ve been a faithful Sonos user from the beginning, but now I’m considering other options! UPDATE - Cancelling and cycling the devices that were paired with subs and surrounds seemed to allow me to finally update all the devices, so adding a few stars, still had to add each device separately one by one. The new look feels a little better with the colors, but overall don’t notice much difference in the layout, feels like they just want to make sure you log into your account so they can keep an eye on ur devices and music habits so they can push their own service, which isn’t bad, but doesn’t let you skip songs which just about every other service does..Version: 12.0

TerribleEver since the upgrade to Sonos to I’ve had nothing but troubles speakers cut out continually and unable to connect from the iPad controller never had issues with the old one. disappointing!!!.Version: 12.0.4

Deeply flawedAs a sonos user for many years, let me be the one to warn you off. The system can work well enough, but the app is a mess and a half—and is getting worse with each release. The interface itself is poorly designed, and the functionality is getting worse with each version. (I am sitting six feet away from a—functioning, playing—speaker that is not showing up in the app.) Even at its best, the app pauses for ten or fifteen seconds each tine it’s launched. I had hoped that the new Sonos 2 update would fix things, but no. It’s gone from an annoying five second lag to a fifteen second lag. Trying to add (or even unplug and re-plug) a speaker becomes a three hour journey of troubleshooting. Imagine how irritated I would have to be to sit down and write this—it’s because I’ve hit a dead end with a speaker that was unplugged, replugged, and that took down the whole system. Avoid Sonos. It looks tempting, and when it works as advertised, it’s amazing—but this fussy, buggy software/hardware mess rarely works as advertised..Version: 12.0.3

UnusableReally disappointed with Sonos and it’s products. My son moved back home who had his own Sonos speakers and now every time I go to use my Sonos it is a random surprise if it connects to my speakers or my son’s when I open the app. Further more it is also a random surprise when I go to use the system if it loads my library on my phone or my wife’s library that is on her phone in the app. Have contacted Sonos who pretty much brushed us off. Product and app used to be good but a waste of money when you can’t get it to work..Version: 14.3

Junk!!!!This new S2 app is junk. Painfully slow to use, and can’t access many things like before. Very disappointed..Version: 12.0.1

Media Library: external album art broken?Has a recent update broken external album art for a media library? Running Sonos S2 13.4, and 13.4 on the Sonos hardware….Version: 13.4

Looking elsewhereTired of the constant updates! Often open Sonos to enjoy some music but get told update needed which is annoying and disruptive. I will look for another system to play music now..Version: 13.3.2

FrustrationI have an extensive Sonia system: 2 Sonos Ones; 2 Sonos 3; 2 Sonos amps and 1 Sonos connector. I have an endless problems. I play them all together with the dream of having music throughout my house; however, at any one time two will randomly quit playing. I have called countless times and they always blame the WiFi. I have 7 Wi-Fi spots in my house (which is not that big) and best internet package - and my Sonos devices sit proximate to the Wi-Fi devices. Sonos is good because (in theory), it’s a connected wireless system - and the only one I know of. But it’s connected yet goes it and out that if you’re a music lover and went to the effort to set this up, it’s totally maddening. And I talk to my friends that have the same experience. And to add to the madness, Sonos won’t support older generation devices - when will they decide to quit supporting mine? Would you ever knowingly buy with the threat of (minimal) support? So now I routinely have to go unplug all the Sonos and wait like 20 minutes, plug them back in and hope they’ll work for a while. Bottom line: it’s a frustrating system although I don’t know of another way to do it wirelessly..Version: 13.1.1

Connectivity issuesEver since we switched to using this new app we’ve had nothing but issues. It’s so unreliable. The connection drops in and out (when it finally recognises the speaker on the network that is, which in itself is a small miracle), and then when I do get a connection and manage to select a playlist, it sporadically skips through songs! Sometimes it might play one all the way through, other times you get to listen to maybe 30 seconds before it skips. Honestly, it’s been like banging my head against a wall. I’ve fully reset the Play:1 twice now as the app refused to recognise it. Thought it could be my WiFi or network, but have Alexa speakers which all work fine, and so did the Sonos until this new app! I’m so disappointed, the Sonos sound is far superior to anything else, yet I now have what is basically an expensive ornament as it’s the original Play:1 so cant connect via any other means than through the app. We were thinking of getting the new Move speaker, but until they sort this out I’ll spend my 400 notes elsewhere thanks..Version: 12.0.4

Connection frustratingSeems to always drop out and connecting to a different band width is not easy to try and fix the problem. A rubbish interface.Version: 12.2.6

If it worked why fix it?I have a a Sonos One and a Play:1. Mostly the system worked exactly how it should, being able to play music from my phone as well as radio and other sources. Occasionally it would drop out or not find the speakers but find me a system or device that’s 100%. However, since the app made me update to the S2 app as my One was supported on the S1 anymore I’ve had nowt but problems. Largely can never find my speakers, telling me that my network doesn’t have any speakers connected to it. When trying to play music from my phone it takes an absolute age to connect to the one and then longer to group with the Play:1. When trying to play the radio through them (using a radio app) it just does not connect at all (no problems before on the S1). I’m a fan of sonos, always have been, yes they are expensive but they are good, so come on, sort the app out.Version: 12.0.3

Sonos. What happened?Been a long time user. Sold so many Sonos systems to my friends and could never say enough good things. Now with the two separate apps for new and old equipment it is something I can no longer endorse for fear it will happen again in another five years. When people spend thousands of dollars and then continue to expand their system it should work all together. I think Sonos has lost their way from their original mission. I now have to have two apps — one for half my zones and another for the other half. Can no longer group certain rooms because their equipment isn’t compatible with each other. Major failure on Sonos’ part. Weak attempt by Sonos to overcome their buy back perfectly good equipment at dimes on the dollar to sell new stuff. Dumb. Hopefully when all my old stuff fails there are some comparable products out there from other companies that can handle making old and new work together because Sonos obviously doesn’t make it a priority..Version: 13.2

So frustrating you’ll think you’ve become oldThis thing played music a couple times after I first set it up, now for up to a day at a time it won’t even turn on or show any sign of life even while plugged in. I’ve had it for a week. When the light does decide to come on after several minutes of spamming the power button, it still won’t connect until I do a hard reset and go through setup again. And then it works until I turn it off after which it’s back to prayers and luck again the next time I want to turn it on. It also requires you install its own app and register an account and set up an internet connection just to do something as simple as bluetooth. Which I have to do every time it lets me turn it on. My bluetooth headphones by contrast can connect out of the box in 2 seconds, every time. This was a great exercise in what it must feel like to be my grandma setting up her iphone but I prefer to be able to have my stuff work, not pass some sort of 20 minute cognitive techno obstacle course every time I want to listen to a song..Version: 13.4.1

I cannot stand this app, would give 0 stars if I couldI would like to be able to listen to my music on my Sonos speaker and enjoy the crisp, high quality sound but the app is diabolical, just completely awful. Really disappointed, I saved up to buy my speaker and this is the outcome. Constantly having to update the app, it is also not allowing me to connect my phone to the speaker. My iPad connects and I can enjoy listening to my music, when the app isn’t calling for an update. Updates also take forever to complete. If I throw a party and the notification to update occurs during the party, the party will come to an end because of how long the update will take to complete. I don’t understand why you can’t just pair your devices to the speaker via Bluetooth and play music through your choice(s) of music streaming app. So annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Version: 13.3.2

Latest update has created more glitchesHave had Sonos speakers for 4 years and they’ve worked great till this latest update. Thought it had to do with our router being replaced but seems that many are experiencing the same issues. Speakers and sound bar continuously dropped from network and often can’t get them added back. So FRUSTRATING!!! SONOS DO BETTER!!!.Version: 15.3

5-Star Sound, 1 Star InterfaceEasy to set up and configure, the Sonos system delivers rich, full-bodied sound, in a small, tidy package. The user interface on the mobile app is simple enough to understand, but the lag time between command and response is a huge bummer. Too often the phone app can’t connect to the system, doesn’t respond to a command, or takes up to 30 seconds to respond. I’ve accidentally turned the volume up too high, then the app won’t respond when trying to turn it down. Or tried to fast forward an explicit song with guests over, and the app won’t respond. Unable to skip a sappy love ballad during a backyard barbecue that kills the upbeat vibe… The most obvious culprit would be the network connection/speed, although we have hubs throughout the house, and I work online from home, kids play live video games, and stream movies with never a buffer or delay. Very frustrating….Version: 13.3.2

Dumbest interface on the planetI have spent equal time listening to our Sonos Move and trying to set it up…over and over again. Why? Because you can’t just move your portable Sonos device from room to room. You lose the signal when you do. What does this have to do with the app? Everything. The app is your lifeline to the device. You’ll bounce back and forth between inane instructions: “connect to the new router then return to the Sonos app” and FAQ on the Sonos website. And even when you place the speaker next to the only router it knows, you still can’t connect to it. Why? Because there is a new version of the app! Or maybe not. I updated to Sonos 2, then updated that. Intermittent wifi signal still. Can’t connect to Sonos. And round and round you go. Want to use Bluetooth because Move loses the wifi signal over and over again? Well, good luck with that, too. Which button do you push on the back to pair? The infinity one? The one with two symbols on each end? And why isn’t it pairing automatically, anyway? It did yesterday. Yes, the app is the key to using your $400 speaker, but no, it won’t tell you how to use that speaker..Version: 12.1.2

If you have bough a Sonos speaker, return it before it’s too late.My title of this review is probably one many of you have seen before regarding Sonos. Let’s get one thing straight; in terms of audio quality sonos is definitely up there, however the fundamental issue with these products is that the app is trash and they are 100% dependent on WiFi. Now any tech savvy person knows that more often than not, your wifi speed can fluctuate, and if per chance it’s not working at all, then all your sonos systems will be down. It just seems so stupid and almost gimmicky that they made them run off wifi. Why not Bluetooth by default with a wifi option as a back up in case you go out of range? I’d also like to add that 2 of my 3 sonos speakers are now completely obsolete because I failed to update them constantly, as I stopped using them due to issues with wifi. Now I can’t even connect to them with the app to give them an update. Sonos is not going to refund me, even though I now own two of their so called speakers that don’t even work! Shocking from a company that upholds them selves as a luxury speaker brand. Just get Bose blue tooth instead or if you prefer portability, the UE mega booms win over sonus everyday. DO NOT BUY SONOS.Version: 13.0.5

Sonos used to just work…not any more!Sonos seem to have gone backwards over the years with regard to the app actually connecting to the speakers on my system. I was a very early adopter having 3x ZP100’s over 15 years ago and even streaming music from a NAS drive was reliable and robust. Now in 2023, I have multiple Sonos Ones, Play:1’s, Moves, Roams and Beams. Rarely does my whole system appear on the app without a hitch, with speakers randomly failing to connect. Even when connected I find the system slow, unresponsive and either the app or speakers requiring software updates with a frustrating regularity. Some of these issues might be attributed to the speed and range of my wifi, however all speakers operate perfectly when used via AirPlay. Very disappointing considering the sizeable investment I have made in Sonos hardware and the fact that under the old S1 system things worked perfectly!.Version: 15.1

Great when it works, frustrating when buggyIt’s frustrating that the system seems to be temperamental. There is no pattern to the inconsistency of when the app can find the speakers and when they cannot connect..Version: 12.0.5

Lacks simple functionalityThe speakers lack direct input to use with any device without needing software. Should have instant Bluetooth or line in plugs so that the speaker can be used without screwing around. App fails to find speaker. Requires account..Version: 12.0.1

Continued problemsI continue to have problems with Sirius on Sonos. I am not happy..Version: 13.0.4

Great speakers, shame about the appI’ve had a Sonos 1 and a Sonos 3 for a while now, and recently added a Symfonisk bookcase speaker from IKEA, which I have to say is excellent. The speakers themselves are wonderful, producing great sound. When they work. That’s the good part. Now for the not so good. The controller app is absolutely terrible. Totally unstable. I have a constant battle with ‘unable to play’ messages, or it skips in the middle of songs. It often can’t even see my system through the app, even though it will work just fine through AirPlay. Sometimes, when I’m busy at home I like to just have a song or two playing in the background, but I can spend so long faffing around just to get the speakers to work, that often I could finished whatever it was I was doing before I’ve got them to work. There is nothing wrong with my wifi, everything else connected works just fine. These speakers are not cheap, so it’s incredibly disappointing how let down they are by the Sonos software. Friends have asked about them, as they have heard the sound quality and been impressed, but I’ve been unable to recommend them due to the sheer frustration of not being able to use them a lot of the time..Version: 12.2.2

Can’t find my playlists etcI really struggle with the Sonos app. I have a few playlists but it is difficult to find them. I click here and there until I find them by trial and error, not where I would expect them to be. The problem is that Sonos thinks it knows what I might like and keeps pushing unwanted songs at me. And another thing. I turned off my speaker when I went away for a few days. It took a long time for the system to find it when switched on again, say 15 minutes or so. On some days, the system plays up by only playing about the first 20 seconds of a song and then moves on to the next. On other days it fails to connect with songs on my playlist. Therefore I rate the app just three stars as it is great when it works, but it doesn’t work all the time..Version: 14.8.1

AdvertisementsToo many.Version: 14.12

Where are my Sonos playlists?I’m not sure when this started, but for the last several releases, I cannot access Sonos playlists through the app. The only way to access them appears to be to open a desktop version, and click on the playlists. Then they appear on my iPhone. The playlist section of the app doesn’t even appear until then - not even if I try to edit the Home Screen. I use Sonos playlists extensively, so this is a massive hindrance..Version: 13.3

Requires verified user accountThe app feels polished and a lot of effort has been put into making the process of setting up Sonos devices (an ARC sound bar in my case) as easy as possible. However, there is a big negative: Sonos requires you to create a user account, using a verified email address. Some people may appreciate the added comfort that comes with that, but I am not one of them. I value my privacy and this type of data grab is just unacceptable for high end hardware (or any paid product, for that matter). At the very least, Sonos should offer a way to set up speakers without a user account. Mine is hooked up to a TV and will never be used for anything that requires Sonos to know my identity. Please fix!.Version: 13.4.1

What happened to group control?Struggling with group control since the latest update, in that it’s there but doesn’t work, instead of equalising across the system every speaker increases / decreases by the same incremental amount which is both irksome and pretty pointless..Version: 12.0.1

Great Sound when it works….We have a sound bar, sub and 4 play 1 speakers. The sound quality is excellent. However every time I get into the app in can’t connect or find the speakers, the only thing that works is the sounds bar I guess because it’s connected directly to the tv. I follow the instructions to try and find the system, but it NEVER works. The only thing I can do is factory reset everything and start all over. Again, every single time. Could reset it today then have to do it again tomorrow. Every other device in the house connects to the internet with no issues, so this is 100% a Sonos thing. Their customer service is a joke, couldn’t be more rude if they tried. You’d think they’d at least be marginally understanding given the amount of $$ we’ve spent, but no. We’ve stopped using the play 1 speakers (google nest, works great), and will be replacing the sound bar and sub as well. I know some people have had success with Sonos, but think long and hard before buying their stuff. They are not cheap, and there are a lot of reviews similar to mine. Your money may be better spent elsewhere..Version: 13.2

Really poorly thought out integrations, no backwards compatibility, bizzare config stepsI was so psyched when I first started buying and setting up Sonos products. I wish I knew then what I know now. Sonos at its best is a really great thing - excellent sound broadcast anywhere across the house from any device. Sonos at its worst is a mystifying string of committee decisions that manifest in the form of really essential and basic performance requirements that are, for no apparent reason, complex and treated almost as afterthoughts. Why does S2’s automated configuration walkthrough recognize one of the brand new Sonos one modules I bought from Costco and not the other? A great mystery… Why does the manual setup process fail four times in a row? Another great mystery…. Why do I need to undergo some dance of the button pressing fairies to add the Sonos app to other mobile devices that are already authenticated on my protected WiFi network? I can’t really think of a good reason, and certainly no other smart home technology I use is quite so convoluted and awkward at the most essential of out of the box tasks. Part II - I can’t remember when the last time something I bought in a product series from a consumer facing company was not backwards compatible over at least a decade. Sonos? Forget about devices they sold you two Christmas’ past…. Might as well be from another planet. Some decisions made here that consumer protection regulators ought to be keen on, if you ask me..Version: 13.3.2

Long time user, but App is getting worseI have been a long time user of Sonos, and used to pitch to friends and family all the time. Not so much now, the app is slower than ever. It takes long time to load and refresh. Hopefully they can improve/fix as speakers are great..Version: 13.4.1

The disconnection madness and the endless “let’s fix it”I absolutely hate this app. It all disconnects with a puff of air from the window. It takes forever to load. It is actually always loading, even if you just close it and open it right after. It struggles to connect to the playbar, in fact, to any item on the system… It makes me go through hundreds of button pressing steps that never seem to make the connection work. When connected, it is not for long, and frustratingly forces me to go through this madness again, and again, and again. I wish there was something that could eliminate the need to end up telling “Alexa” what to do, or having to stand up and physically press the volume buttons after irritating configuration options that randomly decide to not work the next day… All I need it is a simple plain volume option, that would be enough, the bare minimal + and -, but functional! A truly one time setup… It would be haven! Is that asking too much?!.Version: 13.4

GlitchyEvery time they do an update I loose one or more of my speakers off the room list. This is on my iPad 4 and an iPhone 8.I often have to delete and re download the app to finally see them populate again. I have a bit better luck on my iphone XR but it happens sometimes on that as well. It was better before Sonos started doing all these updates since about 4 months ago.Version: 12.0.4

Complete disregard to existing customersSonos cannot be trusted and has built in reduncy within its Apps. Overnight SONOS disabled my S1 app and made my speakers redundant. They no longer operate from my phone due to them updating the App and I can’t even roll it back so I can operate my speakers. Disgusting service and would have never purchased their speakers if knew they had complete of them and overnight disabled them. Help Desk I had agreed to their terms and conditions by buying the speakers and installing the App and it was also my fault because I had ticked “automatic updates” that was responsible for making my speakers only working with S2 app but my phone was not compatible with S2.Version: 13.0.5

Sonos painEvery week or so my sun drops out of my system with no notice or notification, the only way to repair it is to factory reset, reinstall update, re pair, re tune… needless to say this is incredibly painful and the end result is the majority of time my sub is not in use and it is a $1,000 paper weight. After trawling online forums it seems many others are having the issue and so os support claims ‘some home networks’ cause the issue.. what a load of bill! Patch and fix the issue please… Incredibly disappointed with this system and app for the price..Version: 14.14

Great sound, headaches along the waySound is awesome. Setup a bit troublesome due to confusing app verbiage and app goes in circles during setup (for me anyhow) asking for the same thing over and over even after it says your good...so you’re never sure it’s set up....until it just works. When connection is sketchy for whatever reason, then you may have to plug and unplug it to get it going again...and also rebooting the WiFi router may be required after an interruption of the connection. That is quite annoying. With a solid WiFi connection and once set up it’s great. If you move it around to differing networks or have sketchy WiFi, you may experience confusion with the setup UI. I love the hardware, not a fan of the UI on the phone though. I’ll probably buy another though as the active amp and network configurability of combinations are quite solid features. Oh, and I couldnt submit this review without a nickname. I tried “nicknamenottaken”....and guess what? It was taken. The first 7 names I tried were taken....such is the annoyance of Sonos. I almost didn’t write this because of it..Version: 13.4

The app bugs will cost you hoursI have four brand new Era 100 speakers. I just updated this app and still have so many problems with speakers disappearing. If you have an Xfi Gateway router connected to Erro or other extenders don’t waste you time (me 3 hours). You have to call Xfinity and say, “Turn off DHCP Mode on each of every access point.” to even have a chance for your speakers to connect. BUT! even after that they will still disappear from the Sonos app. You physically have to touch a button on each speaker to MAYBE have them appear on the app. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had to restore the speakers to factory and have heard the annoying syncing chime for them to not show up in the app. Ohhh let’s not forget how music from previous playlists that aren’t even playing on your phone will play, sometimes different songs on different speakers! Again, you have to physically turn it off on the speaker itself because it doesn’t show in the app. I really am thinking of returning all of the speakers and going with the older version. WTH were they thinking to release this and their customers the product testers? Even if all the speakers show up the app is so confusing and not user friendly..Version: 15.2.1

Connectivity IssuesThe connection issues with this app are a total disgrace. If it was once a week or every other week I could live with it. It’s every day, sometimes several times a day. It either can’t find the system....... yup, it’s still there.... there’s sound coming out of it...... or it just doesn’t want to play what I want such as radio stations even though I can still group rooms & turn volume up & down. ‘You need to plug a cable into one of the devices’..... no I don’t, there is already hard wired devices on the system. ‘It’s an IP conflict’...... no it’s not, everything on my system has a fixed IP. ‘Something is probably interfering with it’..... no it’s not, I’ve switched everything else off & the problem persists..... ‘It might be your mobile device’...... why would it? It worked fine an hour ago. Nothing has changed in that time. My ipad was sat on the table & no one has touched it. I’ve spent a small fortune on my system & currently wished I hadn’t. I can’t even play my music directly from my iPad or iPhone anymore. When it works properly, I love it. I love the quality...... but most of the time it doesn’t. Would I buy more Sonos products? Unless I am certain the issues have been resolved, no chance. Would I recommend a Sonos system to anybody? As above...... Currently no chance..Version: 12.0.1

Update- FIXED….What’s gone wrong!! (And no I’ve not changed anything SONOS!)This is ridiculous, the update seemed to have solved the connectivity problem, but this morning the same old sorry! The app has lost the network AGAIN!!! Sort it out!!! FIXED- Only fair to amend my review. Yesterday’s update appears to have fixed the issue (took you long enough SONOS). Your speakers are awesome SONOS, don’t let your app let you down again. 👍🏻 Sonos, there is clearly currently a problem in your S2 app. Along with all the others who have reviewed since your last update, the app keeps losing connectivity with the system. No I haven’t changed my router, no I haven’t changed my speakers…nothing has changed my side! It’s 3 weeks since your last update, and despite the reviews you still do nothing!! Listen to your customers and put out a fix before they become ex-customers!.Version: 13.1

Poor Spotify compatibilityDoesn’t work well with Spotify. Showing what speakers are available is probably the most frustrating..Version: 15.3

Awful App - worse than 1 starSonos systems are great, their performance is unmatched but the app to actually use the speakers is just shocking. For such a high end product, you expect the app to match this and at least function correctly but the reality is the app is such a low market tool and it does not do this at all. It really ruins it for Sonos as the usage of the app is not easy and I’m 21 with a decent understanding of technology so I don’t know how people with little interest in technology are supposed to be able to work it. About 50% of the time I try to use the app it tells me it’s unable to connect to the Sonos, so I can’t use my speakers at all. On the occasion the app does want to work, skipping a song takes it about 30 seconds to decide if it wants to or not and the app constantly freezes and is awfully slow. There’s been updates on the app recently and nothing has changed other than the icon colours, it’s horrific to use. It really does make me consider buying other products, at least these will have a better chance of being able to use the product you spent a lot of money on, because they’re no good if you can’t use them 50% of the time which is exactly what this app causes to happen. If Sonos don’t sort the app out, I will not be buying any of their products again and I’m sure many others won’t either, it completely tarnishes your experience of the brand..Version: 12.2.2

Worst appWhy spend so much money on a system that is never working properly. This probably the worst investment you can make in your lifetime. It always says that you aren’t connected to wifi but you are. There’s never an explanation for that mistake from Sonos..Version: 12.0.4

Sonos needs to kick up their gameI’ve had an old Sonos port and now a new one with 4 Sonos 1 speakers and 8 ceiling non Sonos speakers. The sound is great but for years I’ve had issues with my Sonos 1 speakers cutting out. I thought it was my wifi to the point of buying 3 google routers none of it helped. I reached out to Sonos but they just told me it was the wifi. I remember the days when they used to care and had great service. Now they just care about what new electronics they release. Which brings me to nothing is new about their app. It drives me freakin crazy that I can’t transfer most of my Apple Music to the app because I get a notification that I’ve taken up too much space. If I use my music to control from my iPhone it crashes at times. I have an iPhone 12. The app is nothing special and honestly if get it together by at least mimicking the music app from iTunes it would make life easier. The latest issue is that every time I open the app now my playlists never show up. I have to close and open the app twice for them to show up. There is a list of negative things about Sonos that I’ve just kept quiet about but now I’m over it. Improve the app and make it worth getting your expensive equipment. Can’t run them when your app stinks.Version: 12.2.5

Constantly dropping outThey could be the worlds best speakers, but not much point of the signal keeps dropping out. Very frustrating. The link with Apple airplay is rubbish, dropping in & out, and even some of the more integrated services seem to have become more flakey lately. If I have my time over again, I think I’d choose a different ecosystem. I hope they can improve the apps because when it’s working well, I love it..Version: 13.3

FlakeyIn 2022, it’s reasonable to expect that some issues simply are no longer issues. Like devices simply flaking out. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had sonos devices simply disappear from my network. Sometimes right after hitting play and starting music. Can it be fixed? Sometimes. Sometimes it just fixes itself after a day or two. This sucks though. I shouldn’t have to trouble shoot turning on a speaker, like ever. Instead I’m dealing with this issue in some form around 20% of the time I’m using the system..Version: 15.3

Never works!!Might be one of the most frustrating systems ever. It never connects and if it does, the volume is all over the place. TERRIBLE!! 😫.Version: 14.8.1

Please add Apple Watch appPlease add Apple Watch app to control my Sonos..Version: 15.3

Does not play nicely with mesh networksI bought the Sonos One and sound quality is excellent. I have been using with my Asus mesh network and worked well until very recently. The app can not find my device and the Sonos One stopped has to be repeatedly rebooted, started happening shortly after Sonos upgraded their software to v13. I have been in contact with Sonos support and have been going round in circles. They are asking me to change the SSID on my 5GHz network and make changes to the router configuration. I was going to buy the Arc but will look at alternatives. I am giving up on the Soni’s One and investing in an Echo Dot. Sonos are meant to be a premium product and I expect it to work straight out of the box and not to have to modify my network to accommodate. I have some 28 devices connected to my mesh network and all work seamlessly apart from the Sonos One... The other thing to be mindful of is that the Sonos One does not support the full range of Alexa commands..Version: 13.0.2

Untimely updatesI’m a great Sonos fan I have more than six devices but I find it unacceptable that while playing music during a dinner party for example Sonos force an update on me. How terribly embarrassing to have to explain to the guests that you are fixing a technical issue with Sonos during a meal. Surely it should be an option to update now or choose a time later. This is happened many times causing embarrassing moments and I blame it on Sonos which is giving the brand a bad vibe. Come on Sonos give us the option. Apart from that great equipment..Version: 13.4.1

Losing system - sort it out Sonos!Having a playbar, 2 x play 1 speakers and an additional play 5 it’s not a cheap investment so when either my phone or MacBook keep losing connectivity yet everything else runs perfectly on the WiFi you have to wonder what the heck Sonos are doing when they update their apps. Wanted to listen to a specific radio show this morning and ended up using a much cheaper, yet nowadays more efficient than Sonos Alexa speaker instead. That speaks volumes (no pun intended) The speakers sound fabulous but if you can’t access them to listen to what you want to it’s not worth the expense of purchasing them. I see other reviewers are having the same issues. Sort it out Sonos, it’s bad enough you decided not to update older speakers leaving customers out on a limb, bet they don’t have as many issues with connectivity though!.Version: 13.0.4

Average Sound, Frustrating User ExperienceI really want to like this system, the concept behind it is convenient and easy, however the execution falls far short. The sound is not bad, but the enjoyment ends there. Like everyone else, they endlessly try to get you into a subscription, and if you don’t do that, your faced with 30-second commercials whenever you turn it on. I own lots of music, but this stupid system won’t let me play 80% of my songs, even ones that were purchased within the last two years from iTunes. What it chooses to play and not play seems very random, and is done under the guise of licensing and copyright law etc. These types of systems are built for residential home use, so I’m not sure why it gets so draconian in this area. But wait, there is more. The network routinely loses or forgets speakers in the network. I am constantly having to re-setup individual speakers within the system, because it fails to recognize them. Sometimes, this is a quick 60-second fix, using prompts from the app, but just as frequently, the situation is only resolved by restarting the router, or actually having to walk the speaker over to the router and connect it with an analog cable, a chore which can take five or six minutes. For a system that touts being plug and play and super convenient, it is rare that I can actually turn it on and just have music play. There is almost always some sort of troubleshooting I have to do, or workaround I have to perform..Version: 12.2.5

App is totally uselessI have 5 Sonos speakers which I use all around the house. However the app is awful and cuts out, skips or jumps back to start a repeats so often that it is not worth playing music in the speakers. It is embarrassing when you have guests in your home and the music is skipping stopping and jumping all over the place. There is nothing wrong with my wifi and I even bought a Sonos bridge on the hope that this will improve things. It doesn’t!!!! The app is absolutely awful and there isn’t any support offered to help with the malfunctions. It is astonishing that a brand will keep churning out this rubbish app which blatantly diminishes the users experience of the Sonos speakers and the brand. Sonos clearly do not appreciate their customer base who have clearly bought into the Sonos brand. Once they have your money they don’t care about the long term user experience. If they did care they would sort this app out!!!!.Version: 14.12

Extremely buggy and frustrating appFor nearly 10 years we’ve filled our home with Sonos products and we initially loved them. They are expensive but used to be worth it. No longer. The S2 app - it’s awful and just won’t play nice with Apple Music or iOS. It’s riddled with bugs and is so S L O W. We are so fed up seeing the “spinning wheel of waiting”. The volume control in the app is appalling - it either just doesn’t work or has a delay from a few seconds to 20+ seconds. SONOS, drop everything and FIX your iOS S2 app. It’s embarrassing and severely compromises the quality and reputation of your product and business..Version: 14.20

Great system, clunky appI can’t tell the difference between the original app and the new update. Sonos is such a great system but the app has always been a bit behind the times.Version: 12.0

It’s becoming a bit of a chore trying to enjoy my musicI have slowly built my Sonos system over a number of years and have been extremely impressed with all aspects of the speakers -fives, ones and a beam. There is no doubting the quality of the speakers however over recent months I can rarely get them to function as app struggles to link to the speakers. All other devices work fine with my WiFi but Sonos now performing no better than as if hooked to an old dial up system. This results in app not connecting, app having no control over volume or tracks being played as has frozen mid song. I’ve gone from feeling Sonos was a 5 star product to wondering what else may be on the market. Quite disappointed really. I now sort of avoid my music as end up so frustrated..Version: 13.4

Doesn’t work as the system agesI have a system that apparently has one or more products from the original system that are not compatible. I have not been able to ever get S2 to work with my system. It won’t set up a new system after “deleting” it from my old network, it says it can’t find any of the products. But when I set them up again on S1 and try to find them on S2 it briefly finds them, says there is one issue, but then brings me immediately to a black screen that says I need to repeat the two steps I’ve just described in order to use S2 (delete system on S1 and set up new system on S2, or take off product that’s not compatible and use s2, well it doesn’t tel me which item isn’t compatible, so how do I move forward?) Sonos customer support has VERY limited support hours so over the last three months I haven’t had the luck of being able to get someone on support when I do have the time to call in. It’s insane that I have no other option and cannot move forward with this app, I tried multiple angles like taking one speaker off of my Sonos at a time and then trying to connect the s2 app and it still says that it has an issue, or that it can’t find the system. At this point I don’t see myself staying loyal to the brand anymore and am tired of trying to get this fixed, which has been an issue since the s2 app launched 😩.Version: 12.2.2

DisappointedI am becoming increasingly disappointed in my decision to invest in a Sonos sound solution. I now find I have a mix of “old” products and “new” products. Controlling them and keeping them updated now appears to require 2 separate apps. Speakers are disappearing, difficulty pairing, inconsistent performance. I can only assume Sonos is hoping I will update all my old speakers. My system is integrated into the house, if I have to update them it will not be with another Sonos. It is amazing that a company can show so little regard for existing customers..Version: 12.0.3

Don’t believe the hypeFor what is supposed to be the premium audio solution, Sonos leaves a lot to be desired. After stripping out the iOS support and getting into bed with the steaming services and reducing the radio search scope; you’ll find the offering is far reduced from what it used to be. Instead of being a good speaker, capable of wide connectivity and good control, the app hasn’t moved on, it’s unintuitive, clunky, and you’ll find yourself looking for answers online….only to find you either can’t do it or the instructions are out of date. The app often needs to be restarted and good luck when you change your Wi-fi details! More than that, the speakers themselves need to be disconnected from the power once a month - even Sonos recommend this as a fix! If they know it, why not fix the problem or automatically do that as a work around. There are too many indications that Sonos is all about marketing and hype rather than genuinely caring about the service that is offered. There are plenty of other products now that eclipse and even supersede Sonos now..Version: 13.1.3

Great sound, restrictive appThere’s literally a thousand speakers out there with great sound, this is one of the few that force you through their own app. The only music it will play is from my phone, if my wife logs in from her phone she is only offered my music. It’s frustrating, because the music over wifi is awesome, and playing different music across multiple speakers is sweet, but a proprietary app is such a dick move.Version: 12.0.4

S1 and S2 App run as independent systems???Absolutely fantastic whilst we had original Sonos play 5 speakers and Sonos S1 App. Have now got both S1 and S2 App with two different set of speakers. Old plus two new ones. Bottom line. Speakers fantastic however all the great playlists we had on S1 app have virtually disappeared into oblivion??? Had issues of them partly being available on S2 app, then only only on S1 and now virtually all gone..Version: 12.2.2

Don’t buy SonosSuper difficult interface. Loses connection frequently. You are WAY better off just getting a Bluetooth system that works directly off Spotify/Apple Music. Avoid the difficult (and zero vale add) middleman that Sonos has become..Version: 15.3

It’s okI find the app glitchy. Frustrating it doesn’t just connect to Bluetooth. Super annoying to set up from my laptop. Annoying the app doesn’t just play from my phone music list, makes me play an alternate list through the app. Stupid that you can only play through the app, but just set up through Bluetooth. Limits usefulness of the speaker. Also means friends gave the frustration of setting g up the app if they want to run their tubes through the app. If I had of known this I would have bought a cheaper, more versatile speaker..Version: 13.3.2

BuggyHope you get your stuff together Sonos. This app has become slow and buggy. Love your products but the software has become frustrating.Version: 12.0

Absolute crapTons of issues connecting it almost never works on your first try, and disconnecting is the same sometimes it just keeps on playing ever AFTER I DELETE THE APP LIKE WHAT!!!!.Version: 12.0.4

Too many updatesEvery time I go to use the app, I have to download the app again. 5 updates in the last month…it’s a pain. Often the app just won’t connect - there is no message about an update. Plan your releases better guys!.Version: 13.4

1 star too manyIf you want to spend anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour redownloading the app every time there’s an update or redoing the entire speaker setup multiple times *every time* you use it, Sonos has built this app for you! I now understand why every online review ever published is so vitriolic. Users get lured in by empty promises time and time again, only to be pushed to the limits of sanity by ‘helpful’ auto assist software that never works. Out of the box it took six (yes 6) attempts to get the software to recognize the lone speaker on the network. Choose network, provide password, select speaker. Easy, this isn’t rocket science right? WRONG! Where else on Earth (or anywhere else) is this acceptable? When an update becomes available via the App Store, the current app on your device will not work at all. I’m going to chalk up the cost of the speaker lost as a therapy session while I smash it with a hammer. Too bad, form factor was good and it sounded bigger than it looked. Another good product completely ruined by terrible software..Version: 13.3.2

Over 15 years experience says: Do not buy!I’ve been using Sonos products since 2007, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on compete systems for multiple homes, but I wouldn’t spend another penny on these products. Sonos used to be great, but new speakers are cheap crap and the old speakers (which worked perfectly fine) have been “end of life’d” by the company. You have to replace the whole speaker by spending more money at Sonos. It’s only a matter of time before the new edition speakers are also made obsolete by the company for no good reason. You’re best to buy a competing brand or normal component stereo system that connects through a Bluetooth transmitter, that way if any part of the system is broken, you just replace that part, not the entire expensive speaker. Sonos customer service has gone down the tube over the years too. Their customer service is only available M-F business hours, but most people use their stereo system nights and weekends. So when these crappy speakers go out during a party or when you really wanna watch a movie, there’s no one at Sonos to help..Version: 14.0.4

Slow app compared to S1If by “Improved performance and bug fixes” you mean slow performance and more bugs than the film “a bugs life” then you’ve achieved your goal for this app and release. App is slow to respond compared to the old app. The App never remembers the last volume setting on the rooms setting (old app used to). It’s slow to load rooms, playlists, favourites etc. In fact the whole interface needs re thinking. A brand that likes to think it’s premium, charges premium prices and then let’s its customers down badly on support etc. The only reason for sticking with them is the £1,000’s already invested in their products. And you should read the Roam issues that hundreds of people are having with their new product. Do Sonos test their products in the real world or just in their test labs? Just wait till they sell out to Apple then we’re really in trouble..Version: 13.1

Poor support for older Sonos devicesSadly, my Play 1, Sonos Connect Amp and Play 3 keep disappearing from the app. I have to constantly reset them to make them appear again. This doesn’t seem to be a problem when connected directly by Ethernet. Having invested heavily in the Sonos system, this is very disappointing to say the least. I am now exploring different music platforms to replace my Sonos system when I upgrade. There are plenty of choices now that have more stable and responsive apps. Also, the new S2 app is looking very dated. Apple Music via the app is incomplete. Searching anything is unreliable..Version: 14.0.2

What’s happened? Can app support please address the recent deluge of terrible reviews? I’ve owned my Sonos system for 5 years, the app in its previous presentation worked well without regular issues. Since the apps appearance changed there has been so many glitches and loss of functionality, resulting in the most recent problem ..... IT DOES NOT WORK! This version of the app does not find my system, like all other recent 1 star reviews the app cannot find my system, despite all software being up to date and having gone through the reset a couple of times. Alexa works so I still have music but don’t have any access to libraries. Seriously considering cutting my losses in favour of another music system. Update- turn off 5ghz on your router, open Sonos app and it connects immediately. Sonos please add this to troubleshooting steps as no other suggestions work!.Version: 13.0.5

Restricted m, stiff and disabledAbsolutely hate the layout and how you search. I’ve used Apple Music, Google Play, Spotify and YouTube Music. Those apps are great but when fudged through Sonos they’re all equally useless! Why can’t Sonos just heel over and enable the apps to play directly to Sonos speakers? It’s 2020!!! My next speaker will not be Sonos unless they change their act!.Version: 12.0.4

Location and microphoneSonos wanted access to my location and microphone in order to enable its use. I’m not keen on sharing locations, and absolutely DO NOT want Sonos eavesdropping on me! The location was necessary, while I was able to get around the microphone. When it becomes necessary to enable the microphone in order to use Sonos, i’ll be selling it and buying something “not so smart”.Version: 15.3

👎Hundred percent Wi-Fi doesn’t see my systems in my house disappointed then one day and all works perfect next day not but Wi-Fi signal is still 100% frustrating.Version: 15.3

Sonos system unreliableNot that impressed with the Sonos system, yes it sounds amazing and works well with TV but it is pretty useless when trying to stream Apple Music or mixes on Mixcloud. Very unstable and skips tracks all the time. Very frustrating!.Version: 14.10

True play tuning is a total scamI hate this app with a passion. I have a brand new iPhone 13 pro max and the room is dead silent yet this true play feature never works and keeps saying there’s too much background noise. You could literally hear a pin drop in here. Glad I bought the speakers for this feature. Guess what? They are all being returned now..Version: 14.8.1

No better but at a huge costSo Sonos backed their customers into a corner. Dump your working S1 equipment to upgrade. It’s a strategy to extract revenue from customers, but it feels like being cheated for loyalty. I can’t believe that they won’t do this again, either through incompetent hardware or software devlopment. So I have to replace 4 rooms of equipment. Now the question is will it be Sonos. My answer to that question is no it won’t be. The best is often the enemy of the good. So I will choose good and begin to stretch my outstanding Alpha HiFi around the house using wharfdale speakers from eBay. So if you like your music know that Sonos will expect a level to stupidity from you so that can turn you over every now and then. Oh and for those that think this is the first time they have done this, some will remember Sonos saying there were no WiFi issues for years only to then introduce a product to address the issue. Next!.Version: 12.2.3

Feeling cheatedDO NOT BUY SONOS. I have Sonos throughout my entire house (and back yard, and front porch) … every room. I started small and added over time And I loved it! Speakers sound great, like functionality of the interface, versatility, etc. But now Sonos is telling me that half of my system (the oldest half) must be replaced. The hardware is in perfect working order but Sonos refuses to upgrade the software for the older units. Which will be thousands of dollars for me to replace. To replace a perfectly good working system of speakers and amps. I’ve been hacking my way for over a year by using Sonos 1 and Sonos 2 apps but now even those don’t work. This was clearly an intentional - and highly flawed - business strategy. In Europe this is an illegal business practice under their “right to repair” act … but I should emphasize that my system doesn’t even need repair. The hardware is in perfect working order - Sonos has simply decided to force its existing customers to spend more money because they don’t want to keep using the original software. That I paid for. Outrageous. Don’t buy from a company that treats its customers this way..Version: 13.2.2

SonosTrouble app. Takes too long to load if it loads at all.Version: 12.0.4

Core controls unreliable + worsening UXSo in addition to all the things that made Sonos easy to use gradually going downhill, now the core player controls don’t want to work sometimes. Stuff like play, next track, prev track will now glitch on me and not register with the player, despite seeming to register in the UI. That’s in addition to things like no longer getting the track controls in the lock screen half the time, volume sometimes requiring me to find and manipulate the on-screen slider instead of my phone’s physical buttons for volume, and the ever-confusing playlist feature that occasionally decides to keep playing music from a week ago after playing one song from the album or playlist you thought you put on. I’d only ever use Spotify’s remote play functionality, but the AirPlay functionality or whatever it is can be futzy and require several attempts to both recognize and play my media on the Sonos (usually at least 2-3 attempts before it will play). Love my speaker, pretty constantly annoyed by the app..Version: 12.0.5

Absolute unreliable rubbish!I hate this. Why do you buy a Sonos? So you can listen to music? With this App, I cannot without doing a factory reset second time I use it! I have many other systems on my WiFi and Sonos is the only one that fails. I’ve had it 6 weeks and at least once a week the whole thing requires a factory reset and randomly speakers drop off! Again, iPads, phones, MusicCast, PlayStation all working totally fine. Let’s be clear. You have to run the App to use your Sonos. So if the App is s&@$t, then the whole f$&@n Sonos is a waste of time, money and frustration! Not only do the speakers drop out but the App fails to boot up.... I Hate it so much! Do not put yourself through this pain. Stay away..Version: 12.0.1

Great when everything worksARC SUB (most recent gen) One SL (one each - bathroom, bedroom) or as Surrounds for Arc & Sub. Generally no problem to move connect & configure, if there’s problem? Day’s to learn wont pair on WiFi, when u set Arc & Sub direct ethernet ** *** for everything Sonos toy, learn how to manual force a reboot, its ‘factory fresh’ then Easy to install? So long as the auto set up gets everything right. no access to manual inputs, not even Support that should be able to adjust when all your gear is online. leads to Network, despite what they say, mine runs great on the 5G band of the modem WiFi, once selected, no changing it without a factory reset. Was putting Arc and Sub back on ethernet cable, after using surrounds all on WiFi, OOps aforgot I borrowed the Sub’s cable... Sonos could not get the sub to do anything, I rebooted Sub 3 times, Sonos, could not even connect it back up to Arc, and TV. I started drinking heavily, and problem fixed the following day, that is by the time I checked. Think I must have rebooted everything in the house, including self!.Version: 13.0.2

Expensive and unreliableWe regret purchasing this Sonos system but are stuck with this expensive system that doesn’t work. I don’t often write reviews but after our Sonos system keeps going off and on and has been since it was installed (by a pro AV company), I felt compelled to express my dissatisfaction. We had a Sonos system installed in our newly build home about 3 years ago. We went all in on Sonos complete with in-ceiling speakers and high end routers throughout. The company that installed it, Chesapeake AV have come multiple times to fix the problems with the Sonos system but seem to have just given up. The biggest issue is that it stops playing all the time. Doesn’t matter what we are listening to music or TV shows, it plays for a bit then cuts out. We have to restart the app, or the TV or the Sonos system for it to play again. We’ve done every trouble shoot recommended by Sonos and called customer service. Half the time we’re listening to music on our Google home device..Version: 14.19

Furious they bricked my CR200 controllerIn retrospect it was inevitable, an annoying constant reminder on the iOS devices telling you to upgrade to S2. Someone in my family eventually gave in and complied. Sadly the beautifully designed, purpose built, easy to operate CR200 controllers are now useless, and we have to use use our iOS devices to operate the Sonos system. I am livid. I attempted to downgrade to S1, but could not. So now we wake and authenticate our devices, launch the app and dig into it, rather than pick up and press a button on what was a lovely piece of industrial design. I feel somewhat swindled and betrayed..Version: 13.0

Can’t locate devices anymoreMy Sonos beam and my One and One SL have worked perfectly together in a surround group for years on the app. Yet this week all devices disappeared from the app and when trying to re-add it failed repeatedly. I could add one device first but wouldn’t allow to add the other two. Or we could add a second device but it would then delete first registered device with an error message to click to fix. Going through tedious troubleshooting the message appears stating that the routing settings might have changed. This is not the case and never been changed in fact my BT Hub finds the correct settings for all devices in my home, which besides the point the hub has the same settings and the devices are all connected to the same hub that they have been for years. To test we tried on my partners phone and the same problem occurred. The issue must be the app as the beam and ones output sound perfectly but the app won’t find them anymore rendering the trueplay feature and day/ night mode redundant..Version: 13.0.4

Why did they botherIt can’t find how to search the whole of Apple Music even though I have a subscription, it just searches my library. It says it is searching all but it isn’t, e.g. can’t find Beatles Blue Album. You have to first use the Apple Music App to find what you want, add it to your library, and then Sonos will find it. A real pain. Have tried to get support from Sonos both on web and lodging a ticket. Did not respond to either. Don’t upgrade from S1; much more functional App, e.g. works properly with Apple Music. Unfortunately once you have upgraded you can’t downgrade. If you are thinking of buying into Sonos, don’t if you use Apple Music..Version: 12.0.2

DON’T UPGRADE!First of all, I’m a Sonos fan. Have used their products for about 8 years and like what they have to offer. Sat down to watch a movie with the family and thought hey, there is an upgrade, let’s go for it before we start. Then spent two hours trying to fix what the upgrade caused and now have a worthless Play 5 first gen. First downloaded the app and then none of my products worked. Did a hard factory reset on one and got it to work. Then did a hard reset on my Sonos 5 first gen and was told it wasn’t compatible with the new ap. Tried to go back to the old Sonos 1 app but because my products updated, was told they were no longer eligible for that either. I deleted my current system and tried to start fresh but still couldn’t use Sonos 1 and the products wouldn’t work with Sonos 2. Had to perform a hard factory reset on all my products (10) and start again with the Sonos 2 app. And now my Play 5 is basically a brick because it isn’t compatible with the new system. I think when I bought the Play 5 it was like $400 and the only way I could get an input AV jack. I’m glad some folks were able to give it 5 stars and it worked for them. I wasn’t so lucky and now after reading the reviews, others may also be having issues..Version: 12.0

Connectivity issues getting worseSo I love sonos, I have 6 set up throughout my home in the different rooms (all Play1). But, they are super sensitive when it comes to connectivity. The quality of the sound is brilliant and when they are paired in a room they are very good and they work well if you select one room to play. The challenges come when you want to play all the different rooms together (so play all 6) or having more than one room playing. It’s a ruddy nightmare. My wifi is strong and have no issues, plus I have re-set them up a number of times. But when I select more than one room to play, one cuts out, the other might sometimes, then both stop playing and my phone shows it’s playing the music, but there is no sound…. Urgh it’s such a faff!! Once I finally do have them connected and playing, if I change the song on my phone, the speakers don’t connect with my phone, or are so delayed to play it can take up to 5 minutes. My partner and I both have and use the new sonos app, but it’s the same issue for both of us. I have a feeling the recent upgrades have actually made this software connectivity issue worse, rather than fixing it. Maybe they have made it worse for the older models? I do hope they can sort it out as the quality of sound is the best I have ever had. Just a shame the sonos speakers won’t all play/connect together smoothly😔.Version: 14.4
