A Better Routeplanner (ABRP) for Positive User Reviews

A must haveFor any EV user this app is a must have! Gives you confidence when looking to make a trip outside your normal range. 😎👍🏼.Version: 3.9.0

Amazing appBeen using ABRP for years and it has saved tons of time. Devs: problem with my latest version. Both web and iOS skip stations for no reason. They are not set to avoid, nor are there any other settings I can find that would make sense of it. It is suggesting I charge to 100, and driver slower instead of just making more stops. Thanks in advance..Version: 4.0.37

At last!!! Great stuff! On the website version we have the ability to reference the elevation . Will this option be in future release?.Version: 3.9.0

Now the most reliable and powerful EV plannerIn recent years I have encountered little to no issues. The UI is intuitive and the routes are planned well. ABRP is the de facto standard app for planning a route in your EV especially if you’re away from your in-vehicle navigation! I am confident they’ll continue to update and improve this service. Side note: my favorite feature is the list of restaurants within close proximity to the charger on my route! So underrated but helpful!.Version: 4.2.12

This app has saved my bacon a few timesOnce all dialed in this app is nearly spot on accurate for my Chevy Bolt. I use the premium subscription and love that it takes into account weather and wind when making calculations. Recently the developer added CarPlay support and it is actually pretty great. It seems like the devs work really really hard at making this work properly and be a super useful app. Bottom line, if you drive an EV you need this app. It can take the range anxiety out of a cross country trip..Version: 4.0.35

Much improved!I’ve been using this app every since I heard about it. At first, it was alright. Some things didn’t work, soc guesses were always way off even on short trips. Weather and traffic were sporadic. But recently, all of that has been fixed. Traffic works, it adjusts based on weather, soc guesses are spot on even on longer trips. This app is indeed useful! While I don’t use it every day, it comes in useful for piece of mind on those days I have a lot of running around to do. I pop in all the places I need to go, and it gives me the estimate! I will say, it’s a bit heavy with the estimated energy use still, even after 200+ miles, it may think I’ll have 2% less battery than I do. That may just be the devs making sure users can make it. But I do get pretty good mi/kw. So, I’m okay with that. I also wish the station info worked better. I’d say at best, 10% of stations I come across have live data. This is a paid feature, so I wish it worked better than it does. Over all, it’s super useful for those of us who in car nav isn’t that great. Which, let’s be honest, is most brands..Version: 4.7.2

Thank you!As a Tesla model 3 owner this app is essential. Absolutely love the web version and now incredibly happy to see a mobile app!.Version: 3.9.0

Clash w latest iPad upgradeI updated my iPad yesterday. 27th oct ‘22, and now ABRP crashes each time I try to use it.Version: 4.2.12

San Diego to Flagstaff and back. This was the first trip I took with my BMW i4. It ended up at about 1200 miles. There were lots of challenges, mountains, headwinds and 106 degrees across the desert. The ABRP app worked great. I was amazed that ABRP predicted my battery usage on each leg of the trip accurately. Actual usage was always between 2-5% of the predicted usage. ABRP predicted more usage than I actually used probably because the default 5% default battery degradation setting which I didn’t change. If you’re taking a road trip, ABRP is a “no brainer”. Another “no brainer”…select Electrify America as your preferred charging network. No other network is even close (unless you have a Tesla)..Version: 4.2.6

AccurateThis is a great app. Very accurate. One thing to improve is to measure wind in kilometres per hour (or miles) instead of metres per second. Then it would be 5 stars..Version: 4.1.10

Great app!Works fine as the website!.Version: 3.9.0

A Good FallbackWe find ABRP indispensable for planning our long distance trips. In particular we appreciate being able to evaluate and choose among alternate routes and being able to add CHAdeMO chargers to the mix. We usually start on the desktop or laptop at home and then revise as we travel on the M3’s web browser while we’re charging. The iOS app allows us to revise when we’re out of the car on longer breaks. The UI is a bit quirky and awkward on an iPhone, but all the essential functionality is there..Version: 3.9.1

App stability and some suggestionsSo this app does help you plan for your trip it allows you to set an average speed and plot charging based on that which is nice for those of us who don’t want to go 65 in an 80 zone to make it to the next charger. The app has a few problems, I’ve noticed when data is limited the app malfunctions, it doesn’t properly forecast the remaining battery percentage when you go below the minimum set threshold and if you set it below where you would like the battery to be at the next charger it will plot it to that percentage. What ends up happening is when you go below let’s say 25% where I set it to it then says you won’t make it and you will arrive with negative 600% battery. I think if they changed it to minimum charge preference instead of minimum charge theshold that calculation wouldn’t fail. It also crashes when left open on the map for a long time too. Overall this is a nice trip planner, not sure if premium is worth it based on the limited app stability and calculation performance in real time. The stability issues had me using the Tesla nav and not the app on my return trip..Version: 4.0.25

Great app but still needs workI like the app for what it does. The back end is pretty great. It’s been absolutely wonderful getting me where I need to go. It still needs more work for routing. A few times it has sent me 10 miles down a road just to make me turn around and go back or I take the wrong exit and then I’m on my own (in the USA). It also throws in some needless detours from time to time for construction areas. It’s still good enough I’m happy to pay for the service. Keep up the good work..Version: 4.4.2

Great App!I have used ABRP on a handful of 15+ hour drives with 5-6 charging stops, and the app has been pretty solid. I have a OBD-II dongle that I use for realtime data from the car and it does well once it sees the dongle. Most of the time, I have to remove the setting for the dongle and then have the app reconfigure it as it loses itself and doesn’t connect. In fact, the dongle sometimes disappears from the list of available Bluetooth devices. Hopefully that can be looked at in a future update. Secondly, I wish it would interface better with the relevant charging stations in the trip to provide realtime station usage and potential downtime of chargers. I think I saw it show an EvGO status once, and since then not so much. Also, would love to see support for 24-hour clocks. I definitely have recommended this app to several EVers alike, and they seem to like it as well..Version: 4.6.8

Great app but missing car playGreat app but would be so much better if it had CarPlay support.Version: 4.0.10

Since updatesI originally gave a 1 star review to the original app.. however following updates the app is now fully functional like the old website and of great use .. changed to 5 star.Version: 4.0.16

A+ App for the Electric Driver! This is what Tesla’s built in route planner app should have been! No electric vehicle is complete without ABRP!.Version: 3.9.0

Almost idealABRP is an essential tool for planning road trips in an EV now that you can get live data straight from an OBD2 dongle it’s even more accurate. My only complaint is the app cooks your phone and I don’t know why!.Version: 4.1.15

Mixed currencyPlanning a non-Tesla trip from SFO to ORD just to learn the app and to compare my car to a Tesla for the trip. The table of results gives a nice estimate of costs, time spent, and charge levels. But at two stops in CO, the cost was given in euro. I struggled a bit to find a way to export the tabular results to a spreadsheet because in the iPad version, the share function wasn’t there. The tabular results present most of the data you’d want except cost per kWh. Details about charging stations are provided in a click through..Version: 4.1.5

Much better than basic Tesla mapWe went on a two-week road trip in our Tesla 3 with 3 bikes on the back and were concerned about range and I am SO HAPPY we used this app. It was MUCH more accurate than the Tesla map. Tesla does fine when the weather is average and you don’t have a rack or extra luggage, but we were driving through some areas with few chargers and couldn’t just “guess”. This worked really well and made the trip a great success..Version: 4.0.16

Good, not GreatPro’s: - Tons of flexibility to customize trips. Literally anything I could think of is possible when it comes to route planning - Free version has a lot of capability Cons: - UI could use a refresh (Widgets, Main page) - A bit clunky (App doesn’t always update location of car, widget takes a while to refresh) Good news is the cons are easily fixed with future software updates. 100% worth the install if you have an EV..Version: 4.0.43

Best app for EV route planningNot sure how people give this bad reviews - by far one of the best apps in the store for EVs..Version: 4.0.33

I like itNot sure why so much hate. I find this very useful. I especially like that I can enter my car and then indicate to only use EA chargers (because it’s free with my car). I don’t use the routing within the app because I prefer Waze. However the actual charge locations are always correct and the range calculations are useful and accurate. Once I find my charge location I import to Waze which is super easy to do..Version: 4.1.16

A decent start.I've loved, used, and referred the website for years now. Nice to see an app. It took a couple minutes to get past crashing immediately when picking settings, but then after I selected a car it worked fine. What took a few more minutes was discovering preferences were not under the settings menu but instead reached via the top left icon. I was able to log in and pull up saved routes but it failed to calculate a solution for a saved 10 waypoint route. Simpler routes no problem. It would be nice to have an iPad version. Zooming the iPhone version always looks clunky. I'm not sure of the advantages to using the app vs the website direct from my iPad..Version: 3.9.0

A bit buggyNew version is a bit buggy - telling me to right click o things.Version: 4.1.0

Fantastic App and Awesome DevelopmentVERY highly recommended! This is a marvelous app. While the stock Tesla in-car navigation system is great, abetterrouteplanner is an order of magnitude improvement and makes trip planning a pleasure. The wealth of data that this application synthesizes virtually eliminates any vestige of “range anxiety” that I still had after over a year of Tesla ownership. Among many other features, the ability to select various route options, such as “avoid highways” is extraordinarily welcome, especially since the native Tesla navigation system does not allow such fine tuning. The basic version of this app is great and highly functional but the premium version is well worth it. I would also stress that while it has a few minor glitches (virtually inevitable with a complex application) the developer is so conscientious and so dedicated that I have no doubt that it will continue to improve. The developer has plans to execute a video tutorial, which will be a real plus. If every app developer had his attitude the virtual world would be a far better place!.Version: 4.0.10

Great app but it could be improve for CarPlayI love the app, especially when coupled with a OBD to get accurate data. It would be great if it could take better advantage of CarPlay. It doesn’t show up in the widget view of car play (when swiping to the left panel), like other navigation app (apple maps, google maps, waze). The UI by itself take a bit to get used to but then works really well..Version: 4.2.8

RayGreat app. I love that you can check the tesla chargers availability without getting into the car. I also love that you could set the car up for different scenarios like weight load, SOC at departure and arrival, multiple stops, etc. I can also plan a trip from my iPad without having to get into the car and waste the car battery while on the road..Version: 4.0.46

I’m re-doing my last reviewThe recent bug fix (4.4.4) has fixed my waypoint route issue. Probably the best route plotting and great with Apple car play and I really like the live charger status updates. They have a forum online as well as a fairly easy way to report bugs so at least they’re listening to the community. Congrats guys on being acquired by rivian!.Version: 4.4.4

Absolutely BrilliantWow! Everything you need for EV route planning. I rarely write reviews but the company that built this app deserve a medal. It makes planning long work journeys fun and takes all the stress out of it..Version: 3.9.4

Awesome App for Planning a Road TripThis app is amazing for planning my charging on road trips. It’s totally worth paying $5 for the month of my trip. After that, you can just cancel. Think it of as the cheapest trip expense you’ll have that helps make it as good as it can be! Like all apps, it’s not perfect. However, it’s still the best for route planning a route trip by far. This applies even to the free version. Also, the app gets regular updates, so it continues improve over time too. Side note, I drive a Tesla. This app allows me to plan my trip even better than Tesla’s already good in car route planner. For example, I want to keep my state of charge between 30% and 70% and end my trip at 50% to maximize the lifespan and long term capacity of my battery. ABRP enables me to do that. It’s a great compliment to the Tesla route planner. When driving across a long desert stretch, for example, it’s a good idea to use the worst case arrival state of charge between the two to be on the safe side..Version: 4.7.0

Totally amazingWhat a great app. Brilliant to have it as a dedicated app. If you have a Tesla or other EV you need this app! Great work.Version: 3.9.4

Really useful planning round tripsFound app to be really accurate once all the vehicle stats entered. However tried it the other day on the Tesla’s display and it was really laggy, a good half mile behind where you are. Pity it’s not as clear as the Tesla’s nav and it would be even better if it incorporated the features of Waze with the speed cameras and police positions..Version: 4.0.12

Quick bug:As other poster mentioned - need to allow a way to indicate negative Celsius (and negative Fahrenheit)..Version: 3.9.0

Missing Carplay SupportI love the app! I have a Nissan Leaf 2019 SV with a 40kW battery and the app is surprisingly good at planning my power levels through the trip. I would give it 5 starts but it’s missing a quite important functionnality for a route planner: Apple CarPlay Support. I find myself having to copy the stops I need to make in the Maps app ou Google Maps. Maybe you could implement a way to export the stops to those apps if you don’t want to support CarPlay?.Version: 3.9.8

Best app for ev travelling. A MUST HAVE!It’s a very impressive ev route planner. I love it. Cheers folks, keep up with the good work. I’m looking forward to seeing what new features the next updates will bring us🤙.Version: 4.0.24

Extremely HelpfulNot sure why this app isn’t rated much higher - wife and I own a Tesla, and believe it or not, even though Tesla’s have been around for quite a while now, there’s still not a great trip planner with travel times, etc. if you want to plan your ‘return’ trip (Tesla’s in-car system is great for the ‘to’ trip, but even that gets limited if you want to plan multiple stops…it won’t do it). Enter this app to save the day - no other app or site I’ve used does this well, but this one does. Enter your car, it’s range, to/from, multiple stops, etc., and this app can handle it. I haven’t seen any other be able to do it. Thanks, devs..Version: 4.0.37

Amazing Tool for all EV ownersAfter playing with the free version to work out a planned trip from Atlanta to the Great Lakes, and another to DC by way of Kitty Hawk, I decided to buy the paid version. Money well invested! I just mostly finished a planned trip to the Grand Canyon, swinging up to Yellowstone and back via Mt. Rushmore. I’m still discovering wonderful features! It estimates my cost to recharge this 6000 mile trip will be only $306 for the whole trip. I’m able to add POIs to see the impact. While it seems to have the ability to limit daily travel to a set number of hours and locate a hotel at the estimated Supercharger stop, I’m not comfortable enough with that feature. Mostly, because there are hotel chains we don’t patronize and I can’t seem to put a reasonable distance from the SC to hunt for my preferred chains. It COULD be a great feature in later iterations though. With a three week trip, my iPad is slow at carrying out recalculations when I make modifications, but the newly added stop finds it’s own location along the trip, so that’s a great feature. Really, the only negative I see in the app itself is the adding new waypoint at the bottom of a saved plan. It and Accomodations are greyed out, and I have to tap multiple times on that area in order for it to finallly pop up a window. It always does but it gets frustrating. Definately a great buy and if you travel I highly recommend the paid version..Version: 4.2.3

Very good appA very good and useful app for taking my Tesla on a trip. However, there seems to be a glitch where if it’s in landscape mode with the magic keyboard, I can’t type in any numbers to the setting to change the battery charge status. Thanks.Version: 4.1.5

Great road trip planning appNot sure why this is not on articles that list “must have EV apps for EV owners” because it really should be. This app is great for planning long trips—it shows you where you should charge, for how long, and gives you directions while driving too. To make the most of the app, do spend some time in the “all settings” part of each plan. If you have extra passengers, put in the extra weight. If you are going to drive above the speed limit, put that in the app too under reference speed. For example, driving 80 mph in a 70 mph zone would be a reference percentage of 114%. It does make a difference. One drawback is there’s no real time information about charger availability—I check the charging company apps for that. Hopefully one day the charging companies will freely share that kind of data..Version: 4.6.0

Needs Supercharger UpdateExcellent app, especially for advance route planning, but with the ever increasing number of new supercharger sites opening, the map charger locations need more systematic updating..Version: 4.2.3

Great App - Getting Better Every DayThis app is so useful for anyone with an EV who ever makes trips that require charging away from home on public chargers. Makes it so simple to plan a trip. Knows your car and how efficient it is. It knows the terrain and how it will affect your consumption. It knows how weather and temperature affect it. And it puts it all together to tell you when and where to charge. You can then fine tune the plan yourself if you want to. Either choose a different charger because you want to stop earlier, or maybe tell it to ignore a charger because you know it won’t work with your car or its next to your ex-wife’s house! And then, once you’ve made your plan, set it to “drive” mode and it will keep you updated with where you are and what your SOC is. On some cars it can even monitor the car’s systems and adjust itself to your driving style (not my car sadly). But any time you go off route it will automatically recalculate. This app is genius and for my car at least it is so accurate I have started trusting it implicitly. Drive an EV? Get this!.Version: 3.9.14

Extremely Helpful & Almost PerfectThis app is a wonderful resource for EV drivers. Its flexibility in regards to settings / model of EV and even weather, etc is astounding. They recently fixed a bug that was absolutely infuriating which is why I’m now writing this review. I’d like to see a more efficient (battery/processor load) navigation mode and the ability to type or dial in your state of charge while in nav mode. I’d also like to see better integration with DC fast charger status (maybe even PlugShare integration) as most DCFSs report in the app as unknown status. This hasn’t been a real issue as they are mostly available, but would still be nice. This app has had many quirks in the past and I’m not sure they’re all solved with this update, but it is a great supplement and aide for EV road tripping. I’ve done Atlanta>Michigan and back and Pittsburgh to Atlanta with this app and my EV and feel confident that this app saved me hours of finding chargers and optimizing for time on the trips. Definitely worth the quieks then and surely will be now (as long as new bugs weren’t introduced hah) Thanks ABRP peeps..Version: 4.2.9

Had issues but devs fixed itThe idea of the app is great. Feels like it will be good when complete. Keep up the dev work!.Version: 4.0.24

Very good appThis app continues to improve and is great addition to the EV drivers toolbox. Recent changes to CarPlay are welcome but ABRP still does not work on the CarPlay Dashboard. Otherwise, keep up the good work..Version: 4.4.6

A Must-Have for Tesla OwnersI have been using their website for a while now, and the route planning is extremely accurate. I’m excited to see it in app form. Use this route planner to better plan your road trips. It’ll adjust for environmental conditions (temperature, road conditions, driving style, elevation) much more accurately than Tesla’s in-car navigation. Be sure to adjust your max speed, temperature, and driving efficiency references for yourself. Your goal should be to arrive at each supercharger with as little charge as possible, because the battery charges more quickly at its lower charge states. This might mean slightly more stops than the default navigation, but much less overall time charging during the entire road trip (stopping twice as often and charging from 10%-50% is still much faster than stopping half as much and charging from 10%-90%). Safe travels!.Version: 3.9.0

Better everydayExcellent app for EV owners. Can’t imagine driving without it. Its rating is believable since it has a learning curve but the app takes so many variables into consideration that you must train the app for your particular vehicle for perfect results. One minor point: 14 days free trial is advertised but impossible to get. I want to see real traffic/weather and charger availability before paying the price. Which I will eventually..Version: 4.7.2

Does what it says on the tinI’ve been using the web version for 2 years and it’s been amazing. To now have it as an app is even better!.Version: 3.9.0

Suggestion for extra functionality in your appI love you app as close to what i was looking for in routing map. It would be really nice to see hotel highlighted with chargers in your app as you go on long trip with stops. Would be fantastic.Version: 4.4.3

Amazing adjunct to the Tesla navigation systemWhen planning a road trip, this is my first stop. While the Tesla app is useful while you’re driving, it’s not really available in trying to plan a trip and while not in the car. A secondary bonus of this app is that it prioritizes the lesser amount of time spent charging, versus the number of stops. The Tesla app, on the other hand, prioritizes less frequent stopping, but with more time at each charging station. I generally follow ABRs advice since I’d rather save a few minutes of total charging time in a road trip but pull off of the road a bit more. Plus this gives me the opportunity to stretch the legs and use the bathroom with slightly greater frequency. The app has a strange interface, though and one that takes some getting used to. I highly recommend this app..Version: 4.0.44
