✓ Slow, confusing, odd.I like the idea, but it feels like it needs a bunch more iteration. The most important menu is an eminently missable tiny dot. I have anxiety around the scarcity of tools - how hard will it be to get more? I’m asked to enable notifications for new islands, but would prefer an idea of when and how they might come up first. Distance is not at all as scary as it seems - 1 mile takes about 15s to traverse I think? I tried fishing and got nothing, did I try in the wrong place or just get unlucky?.Version: 1.0.7

✓ It’s ok butI find it peaceful but it’s kinda hard unless you have upgrades. I wish the time was like every hour instead of waiting 5 hours for another round to start. One thing I wish you would put in there is seeing other boats travel around like you. I don’t know if it’s just my game that dose that but I never see any boats traveling it’s just me and if I find one they are just usually just sitting around together and doing nothing. ✓ RelaxingDestress with this app. Just a couple of suggestions: allow purchase of multiple flares at one time, the flare loading graphic is just not that soothing. Have a winner for first to find, but also have a winner for fastest time. Incorporate a geometry options, with different difficulty levels, in order to triangulate the quickest route and create more tiers of winners. What is up with the fishing thing? Seriously you just have to keep scrolling down? Use a depth finder and a reel motion, troll for fish while cruising, cast nets for the geometry options..Version: 1.0.5

✓ It’s DecentThe game has a cool concept but it wasn’t done extremely well. It always seems like the same group of players are always the ones finding the island, possibly pay to win? I like the interactive notifications that tell you when a new island can be found and also how it tells you who found. Another thing though is I don’t understand how it’s multiplayer. I run into a ship every once in a while but they just sit there. Are these people who have turned off the app waiting for the next island to appear? Furthermore sailing itself is pretty boring you collect some dots to go faster every once in a while and you can do some fishing stuff. Keep in mind you’ll only want to be doing that stuff in the downtime when there’s no island. Overall cool concept, could have more to it..Version: 1.3.1

✓ Relaxing, though got repetitive quickPay to play vibes. Different boat unlocks require a dozen or more cards to complete a set. Cards are few and far between and random. Likelihood of earning your favourite boat seems like it would take forever/luck. Daily race is a fun concept. Though I’d love to be able to upgrade my boat and get new ones easier. So I can be more competitive. The music loop is too short to zone out to. I got to a point after a few hours where the next “tier” of purchases took way too long to earn. Equipment breaks very frequently. Bait for example has a high probability of breaking, before catching enough fish to pay for replacement. The benefit of catching better fish with bait is also too rare. 1/20catches with bait got a valuable fish worth 500g. That’s over 4 baits broken costing 500g(each)/2000g. It’s more economical to grind low grade 50g fish. But that’s boring and time consuming. There aren’t any more buildings/equipment to get where I’m at in the game. Just expensive upgrades. Thus I am moving on. Good game concept. Fell short of my enjoyment/investment threshold.Version: 2.7

✓ Really wanted to like it!I really liked the concept of the game. It had the potential to be calming but also competitive. However, have to agree with many other reviews that the same people find the island first every time, which makes you feel like what’s the point. The island is also always found within 3 or 4 minutes, when it took me nearly 20 to find it the last time. I really hope I’m just terrible at the game. The other issue is that the control is just holding the screen, which if you have to travel 16 miles, it’s just uncomfortable. Could have been great, but probably won’t keep.Version: 1.0.7

✓ Fun but misleadingThis is a really cool concept for a game. It’s super relaxing when there isn’t an island to find. I really enjoy crashing through the blocks of ice for some reason! I just wish there were more islands to find at one time or that there wasn’t so much time in between. For the past two days I’ve been in the app, waiting when a new island is about to appear. I set my flares and buoys but when I travel the distance and set direction, there’s no island. Another two flares later and I see that I’m the same distance away (if not further) in the opposite direction! Super frustrating. ✓ Beautiful game, much too pay-to-winYou can purchase premium currency, which then allows you to purchase directional flares, which then allow you to find the island faster, as you can spam them. Basically, if you have someone who earns the directional flares without buying them, you will win 1/10th of the times that someone who is paying for them wins. Also, if you don’t get on within the first couple of minutes that a round starts (it starts with or without you every 3 hours or so) someone WILL find the island first, meaning you have to drop everything you’re doing and jump on, which is not feasible for most. I’m pretty sure I keep seeing the same 2 or 3 people finding the island every single match, which is disheartening. I would avoid downloading until there’s a limit on flare usage or some other balancing out into place to make it less pay to win..Version: 1.0.5

✓ Used to be fun, untilWith the recent update as of Nov2022 now all in game currency (hearts and stars) you were able to earn has been reduced by half at a minimum. Boats used to all have the same base speed, now they have been made extremely slow with a new currency added that you can pay real money for to make them as good as the boats used to be. Boats can no longer be purchased with stars, but now cards as well (the same new currency you use to upgrade boats.) They basically went and turned racing which was more or less about finding the best path to hit speed up orbs and avoid whirlpools/icebergs into a “pay us money and you can have first on the leaderboard.” It used to be optional and if you were good enough you could make top five regardless if you were paying or not. Now it just seems like they tried to monetize everything and make the grind wayyy longer for things just so you’ll give them money to speed it up. Maybe things will change back, but I seriously doubt it with how app and console games are now..Version: 2.7

✓ This game is bland, to much grinding, and it’s unfairIt takes around 9 or more hours to actually compete to find the island which and since the island is put in a random spot then people a lot closer have a high chance of finding it when you are 15 miles away from it which makes the game frustrating and boring, and to get oysters it takes like 5 to 10 minutes just to get 1 or 2 but with the passes you get a good boat and and good oysters which just turns the game into a pay to win. ✓ DecentI’m not a big game player, but i really like 1sland. it’s relaxing, i love how the colours fade in and out and i love the graphics. the reason i give it 3 stars is because i think it gets a bit boring after a while. i think adding more islands to explore, or different mini-games to play might give it a bit more substance. i would like to see more interaction with other players as an option as well. for example, team races or sorts where you can play different games with people online or chose to just explore more islands. i think calming music would be nice. i think if you don’t like something there’s no need to saying it unless you have feedback on how things can get better, so i hope this helps!.Version: 2.7

Would love to see a reward for “saying hi” 1xp or similar. Wish the whirlpool would trigger vibrations a bit further out, depending on if you are coming from the side or the bottom/top of the screen they can be very hard to escape. P2P seems to kill this game quite a bit - would love to have seen cosmetic only choices rather than increasing sail speed and trying to pass the game off as competitive in any nature. Think of DLC in cod that would make players run/kill quicker. Not fun/balanced. Also is there a current issue with hackers? And your name shown on world ranking. Okay, but that’s about it. I’ve been playing for two days and not to name the player who starts with the letter P- he/she always finds the island. And once I see the island has been found, why bother playing. It is a slow game that starts with a slow boat, unless you buy a “Pass” for $2, $5 and $9 to get a head start. If you wish to grind, complete mini missions and side objectives will take a long while to earn money or “oysters”. Things like collecting little orbs, fishing, and breaking icebergs will earn you “1” Oyster, and when you reach the object quantity, you’ll have to collect a lot more to earn “1” Oyster. I don’t mind grinding, but so I can decorate and island and get my name on a ranking list is not very enticing. When I shoot the flare that shows the direction it doesn’t even seem that the island is anywhere in the direction it shows It’s really annoying that I also can’t keep the boat running to shoot a flare. I slow down so much and even stop sometimes cuz I can’t keep the boat going while shooting a flare. Fix the direction a little bit so I don’t have to shoot off 30 flares pre new island and still not even be close to the first 25 to find it. I sit and wait till the new island comes along with how many others. But yet I am 15-20 “miles” away and can’t even get in the top 30 people. Makes me sad. ✓ TrashNot really a game. Small interactive Color screen where you can direct a boat around. The goal is, every six hours, to try to be the first to find an island that appears. Somehow, the same 10 people that have bought Pay2Win passes that give you a bunch of currency (used for flares) and faster boats and stuff find the island every single time. What a surprise! You can see that they’ve bought a pass next to their name. Otherwise, completely boring and uninteresting “game” where you just direct your boat around, participate in one of two “missions” (pick up these yellow things in a circle or beat this ghost in a “race” on the exact same track every time). You do these things when there’s no island to be found so that you can... upgrade your boat speed/buy flares that help you find islands. All in a feeble and hopeless attempt to find the island next time, which you won’t, because one of the pay2win people will find it before you, guaranteed. Finding an island doesn’t even have a point. You find the island, wow yay. That’s literally it. Oh, and it isn’t even actually multiplayer. You will never actually see another player. Every mile or so, the game just throws 3 random players names into a small area, and they sit there. Still. You can wave hi, or “push them back”, which doesn’t actually do anything. ✓ Boring. Where’s the game?The game is aesthetically pleasing, and the minimalistic design is wonderful. There aren’t any intrusive advertisements or annoying UI-menu navigation you have to perform to enjoy playing the game. However, the game is just so empty. Coming into the game I thought it would be an open-world sailing exploration game with the niche battle royals event that you could choose to participate in; but really it’s just a dragged out progression system to make you forget how little content there is in the game. You have these repetitive, simple mini games and fishing quests you can do for the in game currency but they reset every two hours. You do the same thing over and over, catching the same fish- doing the same race, and sailing across empty ocean or icy waters. It’s a shame because I would’ve loved to have the battle royale side as a separate game mode, and have my own 1sland and exploration game to play. For those who care about the battle royale aspect: There really isn’t an advantage to people who want to spend a lot of money to find the island first, and there really isn’t an advantage to find the island first in the first. It takes a fair degree of luck to land your flares correctly to find the island quickly- and that’s it unless you are going to spam flares. Tl;dr: There’s enough content to last you for thirty minutes. Check the game out later maybe?.Version: 1.1
✓ Extended Storage?I enjoy this game a lot, but even with the bigger backpack the lack of storage is incredibly frustrating. The items only stack to ten, but up to 20 are needed for upgrades. So, up to four slots can be taken for upgrade materials, and the others are taken up by tools. This game reeeally needs some sort of extra storage, whether that’s more backpack upgrades, an option to store items in your home, or a special building specifically for storing items. ✓ Pretty Game, technically hard to controlPretty looking game, and I like the concept. I don’t know if I misunderstood the tutorial, or my fingertips are not working on the touchscreen. I find that the boats are hard to control, the fishing mechanic “swipe down” is maddeningly under explained, some fish are easily caught, and I had to give up on others after a minute of swiping down, before my finger prints wore out. Also the starting boat cannot escape whirlpools, so traveling 12 miles to find the island in one direction will take you through a whirlpool, reset your boat to some new random place on the map, and then you need to use the flares again to get your new heading. ✓ Good for what it isNo matter how hard/how long/ how early I play when the new round starts the island is almost always found by someone who has won it several times over in too short of a span for them to just be “good at the game” and I’ve only seen a handful of names find the island, almost always the same bunch of people and ngl it’s frustrating as hell when I’m using my flares constantly to have some hacker etc beat me every time. Within the first minute of the round beginning the top global player found it. Tobiaskm(2780) and I’m a level 1. The flares practically do nothing. I bought a distance flare. Used it. Went that direction. Used another one. And it said it was the opposite direction all of a sudden. I think each match should be paired with people if your same skill level. Instead of playing with the number one global player. Pretty ridiculous we don’t even get a chance to try and find it and on top of that have to wait 5 hours to play again..Version: 1.0.5

✓ Frustrating tutorials, lots of potentialAmazing visuals, could’ve been the perfect zen experience, however, the forced annoying tutorial and the forced competition, ruins the experience. I had to delete it after the first ten minutes or so, I went through the first level with the slowest tutorial I’ve ever seen, and after it ended (which btw, was apparently a competition that I didn’t sign up for), I thought cool, it probably has some zen mode or sth, but no, more tutorials and competition 😭! The visuals and the idea behind the game are great, and as said in the title, it has a lot of potential, if the developer ever gets rid if the tutorial torture and the competition, and adds a complete zen mode, like in Alto’s Adventure, or an offline gaming version in which you don’t have to compete with others online, I would happily re-install it! I rarely write reviews for apps and games, especially games, but I really like this game to get better ‘cause I know it can. I hope I’ll be able to enjoy this game in near future..Version: 1.1

✓ GimmickyMy first impression of 1sland was not altogether poor. It seems like a relaxing game you tune into as and when you please, but really the gameplay itself is frustrating and dull. The music is unexciting and unmemorable. Finding an island is not difficult at first, but the flares that indicate the general direction of the island have a much wider radius and arc than the tutorial indicates. It’s almost 180°, which makes the flares almost useless. They basically only indicate the absolute wrong direction to go. I’ve wasted as many as 4 circling an island that was a mere 2 miles from me, even with a buoy deployed, because the directional flares are barely useful. The initial excitement and pleasure of a well-made but simple game faded in just about an hour because gameplay is limited between island spawns and the game itself feels more and more like a joke meant to incentivize spending money. Boring. Simplistic. Cash-grabby. Poorly designed..Version: 1.1

✓ Not too shabbyPlayed this game for about 5 days and found it to be just alright. I do like the simplicity of it since that's what I was kind of looking for. I think it'd be cool to be able to do a bit more in the game. Fishing, coasting through orbs and crushing ice gets to be a little redundant. I actually find it pretty difficult to find the islands without having to spend hours in the game collecting oysters in order to level up. I do understand that you can purchase passes, etc. I'm not sure how many active players there are, but it seems like the same people always "find the island" within 4 minutes (not an exaggeration) of receiving the notification.
