Opal: Screen Time for Focus for Positive User Reviews

It actually worksThis is the best app, it really snaps me back to reality. My productivity has increased and so has my self control. Even on days where I snooze/use breaks a lot (less self control) the app just snaps me back into reality. when that break is over and I realize wow I was really plugged in for a minute there… was that 15 minutes??? I would have stayed there for an hour not even knowing. Great app.Version: 3.52.1

Great App!!! RECOMMENDEDI believe that everyone included in this society is caught up by their phone screen time rather than their main priorities. Opal is a great way to get rid of this habit and addiction so that we can get back on track with our lives..Version: 3.30.1

Actually keeps me on taskOpal is way more affective than apple screen time. I just finished my 3 day free trial and would like to keep the app although it’s a little pricey for me. I do have to say that even after just 3 days, it’s been very helpful. When I’m on social media (i.e. instagram), I constantly ignore my limits and claim I’ll be on it “just 15 more minutes” (which we all know isn’t true). Opal forces me off social media even when I want to stay on, and in the end it’s worth it. I also like how there are “focus scores” that encourage me to try to get higher ones (they tell you when you’re distracted, should start focusing, “flow” time, etc.) Overall, I would recommend Opal and if you can afford it, it’s definitely worth it..Version: 3.19

A huge help for spending time on important thingsOpal has been great, easy to use, more configurable than inbuilt iOS focus settings. It has really help change my behaviours and I’m spending more time on the things that are important..Version: 3.50

Opal fills a big gap in apple's focus modesAs someone who struggles to maintain focus on and keep myself from getting distracted by the pretty lights on my phone Opal is a must have tool. I'm relatively new to iOS and found it shocking that i couldn't use the focus modes to block my access to certain distracting apps, really made focus modes kinda useless.. but then i found opal and it solved this big gap for me! I love that i can link Opal with my phone's focus modes to automatically block certain apps, it really makes focus modes work the way i feel they should. Only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the slightly buggy behavior of opal when activating via focus instead of time ranges. I notice that opal itself often takes awhile to recognize the session has been started by a focus filter which can cause some weirdness when i want to maybe snooze the session right at the beginning because I'm in the middle of something in one of the blocked apps at the time the focus mode kicks on. Other than that absolutely love Opal and recommend it to anyone who struggles with phone distraction like I do!.Version: 3.45.1

Opal ReviewThis app is great if you have one app that you spend a lot of time on and want to stop. I use it for TikTok and when I tell you nothing else works, I have tried setting the time limits but I always press ignore and yes I know this is a me problem. Anyways this app makes it way harder to just press ignore and yes there is a break option but you can’t just press it right away you have to wait a few seconds. Which gives me time to think if I really want to break my streak when I can wait and use the app when my time limit for not using it is up. I love how you can customise it so much as to what times you want it blocked. I do wish I could block more apps and set more study sessions but overall this is a great app and if you have the money to buy the premium then you should have no complaints..Version: 3.40.5

Break the bad phone habits! This app has completely changed my relationship with the phone. Perfect for breaking the unconscious habits of opening up time wasting apps before even realizing what I was doing. Now, if I want to use those apps, there is a strict limit, and not one easily dismissed. My attention to the important things has increased and I do think my attention span has grown over the last 3 months of use. Rather than a 60sec video clip, I’m reading an interesting news letter, or responding to that email that I’ve been neglecting, or writing a review for an app (which I’ve never done before). I’ve recommended this to a number of friends and colleague and truly believe it can make a difference in your life..Version: 3.41.1

App doesn’t let me access blocked appsThis app is incredibly annoying. Imagine not being able to access your apps, and Opal rendering your phone useless, for the time period you set - in order to do tasks and reduce your phone addiction? In other words, say hi to your accountability coach.Version: 3.45.1

The app that beat my bad habitsThis is the app that I was looking for. I was studying abroad and living alone, and found it too easy to waste my day on my phone. This app helped me to claim back my free time, and while the paid version seemed expensive, it’s a small price to pay when you consider how much time you actually get back..Version: 3.54

Very usefulI’ve been using opal now for a few months and it’s has not only helped me not get distracted at work and in family time, but has helped me break habits. It wouldn’t be hyperbole to say it’s been life changing. Excellent product..Version: 3.36

Came a long wayI tried out Opal before Apple iOS had allowed for this type of tight integration of screen time with a non-Apple app. At that time, the user experience was choppy and made my phone not usable. Since I re-downloaded the app, the interface has been simplified and the functionalities really take human habits into account. It is not an overly restrictive screen time app, but it does make you think intentionally about your device usage. There had been times recently where the app was buggy and crashed multiple times, but the dev team behind the app found fixes quickly. I have seen my screen time become reduced and feel less stressed and frazzled when I’m supposed to be productive. Thank you!.Version: 3.50

Life ChangingMy friends think it is weird that Opal is among my favorite apps on my phone (an app that makes you use your phone less lol). In this age of technology, it is important to protect your ability to focus and concentrate during critical hours of work, school, and sleep. I used to have this constant nagging in my mind that would nudge me to check my phone whenever I put it down, “I wonder if someone texted me”, “I wonder what’s new on Instagram”… we’ve all been there. Using Opal to block those apps during the workday has helped me reestablish a healthy relationship with my phone. Since downloading Opal I have gone from doomscrolling my phone 3.5 hours a day (unfortunately this is somewhat low for college-age students) to consistently staying in the 1-1.5 hour range. In the time I’ve saved: * I’ve gotten a new job that I really enjoy and have been promoted * I’ve established a consistent meditation practice * I’ve regained a love of reading and have read almost a book a week for the last year * I learned the guitar * (Most Importantly) I have regained control of my attention and can spend more time being present with friends and family, with my phone not only out of sight, but out of mind Embrace digital minimalism. Get Opal..Version: 3.45.1

Latest update is amazingOpal in the past was okay at best. The VPN solution worked sometimes, but it was too easy to just stay on a distracting app with preloaded data when a break would end. This new version with screentime integration is incredible. I love how Opal blacks out my distracting apps immediately when a break ends or when focus time begins. It even changes the distracting app’s appearance on the Home Screen so you’re less likely to click it. I also really like the new UI, especially the part where you can see your stats in the app. I can now feel shamed for my number of pickups and screentime 🤣 HUGE improvement Opal team, I can tell I am going to be way more focused now. I might even get the premium plan just to support y’all. Thanks very much guys..Version: 3.8

AMAZING WAY BETTER THAN APPLES TIME LIMITThis is the only free app that allows you to block apps. For me the apple time limits never work I always click just 1 more minute but opal, my goodness you are great at your job to keep people actually living life than scrolling through reels or tik toks. So thank you for giving me more hours to enjoy life than spending it on my phone! Apple needs to reward you guys! DOWNLOAD IF YOURE READING THIS..Version: 3.47

Best money you’ll spend on yourselfLife changing app. 100% recommend getting this app.Version: 3.52.1

I’m so grateful for this appOne of my New Year’s resolutions was to be on my phone less around my children. This app allowed me to effortlessly smash that goal. I love that I can limit apps to a certain amount of time a day; I’ve cut my social media time down to an hour a day and now feel like I could shorten that even lower. I also like that there are difficulty levels for breaking blocks: for instance, my morning block goes til 9 am, but it’s pretty easy for me skip out if I’m needing (or wanting) to check the given apps. However, all day Sunday it is impossible for me to get into social media, and on other days when I’ve hit my hour limit, I’m all done for the day. Thank you Opal for giving me back so much of my precious time. My only complaint is some of the apps I use for purely business or logistic reasons are labeled as “distracting” apps and my use effects my “focus score”. It’s not a huge deal but it does mess with my dopamine hits ;).Version: 3.52

So annoying. In the way it should beActually works so well, unlike all the other apps that that I just immediately turn off. I just wish it gave me a warning before it locked me out, but seeing as it’s the free version I can’t really complain..Version: 3.40.5

Great for those with ADD or ADHDAs for someone who struggles with keeping focused, this is a brilliant tool to force you into good patterns. It has definitely helped in a working environment and especially from a personal perspective with sleep, eating and overall habits..Version: 3.34.1

I like the app butI enjoy the app, but $100 is too pricey. I've been using the free trial. You offer a $50 discount, which now comes to $150, which seems misleading. I would have considered it if the discount applied to the original $100..Version: 3.45.1

Great app!Recommended to friends.Version: 3.52.1

Great app, a few pieces of feedbackOverall, I love Opal! It’s really helping me stay on task during my assignments, and I think that the UI is absolutely gorgeous. This is really smart! One thing I wish the app did was disconnect the VPN when it’s not actively blocking apps and only connect to it when Opal is turned on, it’s a little bit of a privacy concern having the VPN connected when it’s not doing anything. It would be much better for privacy if the VPN was only connected when Opal is on, instead of having to scroll down to the bottom of the settings page to disconnect the VPN. At the very least, move the disconnect VPN button to somewhere more accessible (the main home screen would be best). I get that it’s necessary for the scheduling to work, but maybe instead there could simply be a pop-up warning the user that disabling the VPN will turn off scheduling (if there’s any enabled schedules) when you hit the disconnect button, instead of hiding it away. he amount of features you can use with the free tier is really great, too! They don’t force you to upgrade to the Pro plan to use the app, all the main functionalities are available for free and the other paid ones (like Scheduling and Focus Timer) let you try them out to see how it works..Version: 1.11

Brilliant.I genuinely love this app. I’ve tried everything possible in regards to productivity and minimisingscreen time but nothing is as simple and effective as this. Simply set the restrictions and get your time back. I feel like I’m going back in time, in a good way. I’m able to rediscover the world outside of a screen..Version: 3.16.1

Amazing app for ADHD!As a high school student who often finds it challenging to simply “put the phone down,” this app has proven to be a valuable tool for me. One of its standout features, in my opinion, is the hardest difficulty setting. This is especially crucial because I recognize that while I’m working on my school assignments, I tend to become easily distracted and take numerous breaks with the other difficulties. Additionally, I make good use of the time limit feature since I’ve realized that I spend an excessive amount of time on TikTok. It serves as a reliable reminder to stay on track. I’ve set a goal for myself to gradually reduce my screen time by about 5 minutes every couple of days, starting from 3 hours. It’s been a highly effective strategy for curbing my phone addiction. If I had the option, I’d gladly give this app a 6-star rating because of the positive impact it’s had on my productivity and screen time management!.Version: 3.45.1

Really good app, but…I really like this app and helped me reduce me screen time from 12hrs to 3-4hrs daily. It’s really good, but it is slightly overpriced for a year? I’d say $200 is a little “too” overkill? If you’d lower your price, I’d go ahead and pay for it..Version: 3.52

I am not addictive at allI am not all addicted to social media any more. Great app!!.Version: 3.52

It worksUPD: my bad, Telegram and WhatsApp apps ware selected in Screen Time as always allowed. That’s why Opal couldn’t block them I think. Hi developers, I want to bring your attention to the bug that Opal doesn’t block social apps group although I selected it. The day of the week is right. On the app it tells me that the focus session is happening, but nothing actually gets blocked. That’s that the core feature why I pay for the app. Apps it doesn’t block - Telegram, WhatsApp….Version: 3.28.1

Probably changed the trajectory of my lifeIm going to preface this by saying I have literally never written a review for an app in my life but wow, this one deserves it. I am an avid procrastinator, i've tried apple’s time limit and it simply doesn’t work because I can easily make it so I can continue using whatever mindless app I was using previously. However, the feature that allows you to set a timer on your time limit/blocking session literally saved me from my habit. Now that I have to wait up to two minutes in order to access the app I was previously on, I am now able to do homework or chores that I usually procrastinate. I have completely 180ed my grades and have been getting As in almost all of my classes because of this app. The only thing that does slightly disappoint me is the timers max is only two minutes when I wish it could go up to at least 5, as sometimes I am patient enough to wait through the whole 2 min..Version: 3.40

Opal reviewThis app made succeed in school. Best app on my phone.Version: 3.54

Great for productivityThis app has been a great help for keeping productive and on task. I set it to block social media at 10am during the week until 6pm and it has really been helping me focus. It shows you where your time goes when you’re on your phone and also gives weekly reports. You can pay for more detailed reports but that’s up to you.Version: 3.52

It is good but how they calculate the default score is interesting…It is helpful in setting time limits for how long you can use certain apps per day and blocking apps when you want to get work done. It is sufficiently difficult to unblock the apps so it does help cut back on social media use. When youre in a “focus session” you can take breaks for a few minutes and then it blocks apps again so you dont go into a rabbit hole of scrolling. My one complaint is that most people are probably using this to cut back on social media but it defaults nonsocial media apps to “distracting” or “very distracting” that most people probably dont consider to be distracting. For example it counts bank apps, uber eats/delivery and news apps as “distracting.” Why should I get points deducted if I need to pay my credit card bill? And reading the news should not be in the same category as social media. It’s not a huge deal because you can change how various apps are scored in settings but I think all of these should be “neutral.”.Version: 3.24

Great appHelped me stay off my phone and focus during school. Very customizable would recommend to anyone who spends too much time on their phone..Version: 3.53

Great appMakes me more productive.Version: 3.52.1

Mostly SatisfiedBest app for this purpose I’ve tried so far, but you can set it up so apps are blocked without any exceptions, meaning if you quickly need to Google something before hopping on the bus that arrives in 30 seconds, you can’t. Instead, you’ll have to uninstall the app which is not a good idea. This journey that you are about to go on requires adjustment. You will find that even with apps blocked, you’re reaching in your pocket to get your phone for that dopamine only to have a mini crash when you realize you cant. In other words, this app helps control usage but not heal the addiction. Let your values and aspirations guide you. Remember why you are doing this and define yourself as the person you wish to be. Pro tip: whenever possible, don’t have your phone in your pocket or near you. If you’re at home, keep it in a drawer in the other room. If your out and about, keep it in your bag. Good luck everyone Life is short and you are doing this for a good reason. Carpe Diem!.Version: 3.52.1

Great app but improvements can be madeWithout a doubt, way more helpful than any other apps out there and is much more effective at reducing screen time compared to the iPhone screen timer. However, the only issue I have experienced is that my daily “study” blackout period, sometimes doesn’t actually turn on unless the app is open in the background. When I first started using the app I didn’t experience this problem, however now after a few weeks of use it starts to not automatically engage..Version: 3.20

It worksIt works.Version: 3.54

It actually worksThis has reduced my screen time SO MUCH.Version: 3.52

LifesaverBeen searching for a way to block time wasting apps while still being able to be productive on my phone. Def gets the job done 👍🏻.Version: 3.52.1

Exactly what is needed right now!I honestly can’t express how amazing this app is. I’ve always been on my phone for the majority of the day, but during this past year it’s become even more apparent how little I achieve whilst constantly browsing. This app is helping me stay focused, achieve more, and I’d encourage everyone struggling with productivity to download it ASAP. It’s a must have 😊 Thank you to the developers!.Version: 1.6

Gets rid of addiction, but glitches!Had a bad addiction to social media and would find myself reflexively opening up instagram or socials when I didn’t even want to open it up. This honestly helped cure my addiction and has transferred my time wasted on socials, mindlessly scrolling to productive time. My weekly average screen time went from 5-8 hours to 1 hour now. Highly recommend! The one thing that has been annoying me is that it will glitch outside of my allotted Opal schedule and locks my social apps on weekends, even apps I put it as always allowed. I checked both apple settings and opal settings and finding that it still glitches. The only way to get the apps to stop glitching is if I turn off Opal screen time access in apple’s settings. Please fix!.Version: 3.50

Better sleep, better work, better mindI applied for their student discount on their website and I got approved in a couple hours. I have been using this app since then, and I have cut down on my screen time by 75% and I used to have it at around 7 hours. I always use the full focus mode as I do not trust myself to keep myself to that. I have it scheduled so I have a specific time for studying, and also if I use some app for a certain amount of time, like entertainment and games, for me I use 30 minutes, then after 30 minutes it blocks all distracting apps for 3 hours. This app also helped gain back much needed sleep. I block all distracting apps at 10:30 pm, and I have recently been going to bed at 11pm instead of my prior 1am. My grades have also improved by around 7% since I started using it..Version: 3.20

Worth its weight in goldThe only thing stronger than my ADHD!.Version: 3.52

Great AppVery useful when trying to concentrate on midterms and exams!.Version: 3.53

Such a helpful appI didn’t realise how easy it’d be to break the habits of mindlessly opening social media with opal, after a few days of getting used to it I’d completely forget about my social media and the mindless short video scrolling, allowing my days to be so much more productive. Couldn’t recommend it enough.Version: 3.41.1

Great app but the full experience bit priceyI love this app it gets me focusing quite a bit and one thing I learned loved when I had my trial is I couldn't stop the timer but, now my timer is up I did myself focusing however I can close the timer anytime, and I want to buy premium but it's way too expensive in my opinion and should be lowered, of it was I would subscribe cause I want too but I feel £20 a month is a bit much for an app in my personal opinion..Version: 3.13

The best for phone addict like me!I’ve tried many blockers and other apps to limit my screen time. But this one is the best so far. Yes, it’s worth every penny! My job unfortunately needs some phone usage, so sometimes I need some apps working (and try not to spend too much time on other time wasting apps). So it helps to customise what apps and for how much to block. I have limits on social media apps (which I still have to check from time to time), also have deep work sessions, where none of apps are allowed). Block works 100%. You won’t be able to overcome it and end the session before the timer 😅 So far my phone usage time is down 50% (from 4 hrs to 2), and I see there is no need to check it all the time. I feel more fulfilled, more present and actually accomplish more without throwing the phone to garbage can. I will certainly recommend it to friends..Version: 3.52

Pretty good:)The free part of the app is like screen time in apple settings however when I use screen time I tend to just click ignore all the time😅. This app to bypass the block you have to go to the opal app and change it so this works a lot better for me! Its simple and effective. I have no idea about payed version I just use free features. :).Version: 3.12.1

So far, so good!I’ve been using Opal for a few days now. For me, the main difference is the inability to “ignore” or postpone the time limit on the app, which you can fairly easily do through Apple’s native app restrictions process. I was finding that I was on (in particular) social media apps far more frequently than I really wanted to be. Because I would have to go in to Opal, actually stop the session, and then back to the app I was trying to limit, it becomes a considered action - rather than ignoring the limit for ”one more minute” / “15 minutes” / “rest of today”. So as I say, so far so good - I intend to keep using this as a way to be on apps (and ultimately my phone) less, and as a way to stay more focused. Thanks, Opal!.Version: 3.13.1

This app is worth the downloadI downloaded only a few weeks ago and already I can tell my brain power has improved. My ability to switch off and remind myself that social media is not everything has improved and I have more self control now. My screen time is now a lot. It’s crazy how much time we spend doing meaningless stuff on our phones. DOWNLOAD THE APP AND LIVE YOUR LIFE! 👍.Version: 3.53

Please do a free limited versionAdhd is already a massive tax so please make this more accessible. I loved the app I just can’t afford to subscribe at the moment. I’m actually writing this because I’m distracted and away from the thing I am supposed to be doing. The irony is not lost on me. Great job.Version: 3.20

Life giverYou help me focus on what’s important. I love you..Version: 3.30.1

Good appA couple of pay walls but still very good..Version: 3.34.1

Life saver!Thank you for creating this app, and relieving us from wasting our life.Version: 3.27

Just what I needed(Free version) A really good tool for blocking out distractions like social media. I used to pick up my phone to regulate myself when I’d reach a challenging moment in my work day. Instead of taking a break- I’d scroll - and as a result I wouldn’t have solved the challenges I was facing. So became more stressed. This is an amazing app! Thank you.Version: 3.41.1

HARD CORE!!! For those who truly want their time back!So as many people do I spend at ungodly amount of time on Instagram. I wanted to get my time back, so I downloaded this app. As I went through the app and learned how it works, I found the “Deep Focus” option. This option makes it so you cannot take breaks and you cannot cancel the session. I thought, sign me up! After using it about a week. There was a time after a concert I wanted to get on Instagram, but I was in a “deep focus” session. I thought well I’ll just delete the Opal app and I’ll be able to go on Instagram. NOPE! Not the case, I was still restricted. Then I thought I would delete and redownload Instagram. NOPE! Even when I re-downloaded Instagram, I was still restricted. All I could do is laugh and be enamored by how great this app Opal is. This app is no joke and is doing exactly what I’ve been looking for!.Version: 3.4

THE app for screen time managementI downloaded and began using this app not expecting much. After a week of use, Opal has well and truly exceeded all expectations. In the past I have tried to use Apple’s native screen time management, however it would always end up with me bypassing all the previously set restrictions or turning off screen time altogether. Opal made screen time management so much easier, mainly due to the customisation and flexibility built within the app. I love the ‘sessions’ feature which allows me to take inspiration from the app or others when it comes to blocking a list of apps during a select time period, which can be set to repeat. I found and used the ‘digital sabbatical’ session which I found impactful and beneficial. If you want to make screen time management easy, effective and somewhat fun/ rewarding, download Opal now..Version: 3.40.5

Life ChangingHelps you put your focus to little things that matter by making you break the habit of scrolling through pointless content. You end up saving tones of time. 10 out of 10.Version: 3.49.1

Wow…I don’t write reviews generally, but it worth it, been having phone addiction for more than 8 years, I was exhausted and this app was the first one seriously helped me, I tried many things that didn’t work for me, is so accurate, is very aesthetic and motivates me in a really positive way, thank you for creating this App, just came to say thanks! The best app ever.Version: 3.54

I finished a book for the first time in years. At first I was like, “This is silly. I’m not paying for self-control.” But in the week trial, I finished 2 books, something I haven’t been able to do in years. For some very serious reasons, I struggle with mindfulness and disassociating by scrolling on my phone. Opal’s focus on maintaining mindfulness really helped me in a way I didn’t anticipate. I appreciated the easy, friendly interface, and I love the option to allow yourself to pause from using Opal or set your app to not allow you to override it until the timer is up. It’s been really helpful. It’s been 6 days and I believe I’ve only taken about 2 hours total to get back to focusing on either reading or errands or simply breaking the momentum with my phone, but those 2 hours were so valuable to me. You can either beat yourself up for not having the self-control, or you can understand yourself and give yourself the grace and handicap where you might need them. I love Opal!.Version: 2.5.1

Life changing appThis really is a life changing app if you utilize it correctly, and are ready to put distractions behind you. Takes a lot of commitment, trust me!.Version: 3.52.1

This app was so neededI normally don’t write reviews but Opal is doing God’s work with this app!! My goal to overcome my phone addiction felt so lonely and difficult, but the app has truly made it so much easier for me to get off my phone. I love the motivational messages it shows me too, keeping me on track. Thank you Opal!!!!!.Version: 3.28.1

Super useful to seperate work/private timeI used to check my WhatsApp way too much, and consistently be hyper aware of people messaging me. This is amazing to just detach. At first it’s pretty hard but it gets very rewarding over time tbh to see it also because it’s more peaceful. I leave my work apps on (outlook, teams etc.), which makes it still possible to do that during the day..Version: 3.52.1

Make it freeMake it free..Version: 3.52

This app has actually changed my lifeI really struggled with going on my phone every morning when I woke up, then also continuously checked social media throughout the day. it was tough because I work from my phone & would mindlessly click into these apps without even realizing it. I even had time limits on my settings app but I would just enter in the passcode, so they never helped me. I’ve opal for about 10 months now and my life has literally changed completely because of it. I’m SO much more productive!!!! I literally launched my own online business without the time I have now. I recommend it to all my friends. I paid for the full year subscription and I intend to renew it once it’s up - it’s so worth it!!!.Version: 3.44

Bruh, why wouldnt youNot one of the people who uses my phone excessively, averaged 6 hours before installing opal. Just wanted to improved it. Thats exactly what happened. It has stopped my opening apps so many times. Even with just the timer countdown - im using the free version and it worked perfectly. Would definitely recommend if you want to live more life and get off ur phone, get more work done and reach your goals quicker and easier.Version: 3.50

Life ChangingHonestly, I’ve never been able to manage my social media usage on my phone. I’m all or nothing. Actually I have a lot of addiction issues in my family, so phone problems is where it emerges for me. This app has given me the ability to choose reasonable timeframes that I can use social media apps and the ability to 100% block me outside of those times. My presence in life is so much better, my self esteem from not beating myself up that I can’t control myself is gone and I’m now getting way more wonderful things competed in my every day life. I never leave reviews. Like, ever. But I am voluntarily writing this tonight as I’d love to inspire others to feel empowered in their phone usage as I am in mine. Absolutely worth the money. Well done and thank you Opal 🙏.Version: 3.30.1

Finally an app that does exactly what it says !!!My screentime have gone from 7+ hours to just around 3 hours. A big shout out to the amazing people who have worked on this app to help people with this addiction..Version: 3.50

I don’t usually write theseI’d don’t usually take the time to review app’s but Opal Deserved it. They exceeded my expectations and i can honestly say has changed my relationship with my phone. I’ve struggled for years, trying to balance my work-phone life, going to extremes just so i can be productive and get work done. This app has solved all my problems and i couldn't be happier. Thank you Opal.Version: 3.52

Love it!It’s really helped me to stay focused..Version: 3.33

Does the job if you work with it!It takes a while to understand that you need a couple minutes if you need to snooze for a bit but once you work with it it’s great.Version: 3.54

It works now after recent updateI originally left a bad review, but their team quickly reached out to me and came out with an update that fixed the issue I was having with the scheduled sessions. If your phone addiction is severe and the Apple focus times aren’t restrictive enough for you, this app will solve that. I use the scheduled sessions throughout the day when I need to be productive. If you’re like me and have zero willpower when it comes to breaking your phone addiction, you’ll need to use the deep focus mode during the schedules so the app doesn’t allow you to take breaks from the session. After the recent update, you can no longer edit your scheduled session time while the session is running as a way to “cheat” your way out of it. This is exactly what I needed, so I’m happy with the app now. I really like the learning section that has educational content on things like focusing, digital wellness, and healthy habits..Version: 2.41

Probably the best decision I madeMore than 5 stars actually.Version: 3.38

So close! This app is the best in its class for sure. No doubt. It’s changed the game in regards to my social media doom scrolling and given me hours back. BUT - it’s got a way to go. I can still find loopholes and best believe when my scroll addicted brain kicks in, it’ll find them. 90% of the time it works. Needs to work on my laptop, work laptop and all other devices too plz. That’ll make it invaluable to me. Also it glitches if you make too many blocks. It’s like they cancel each other out so you need to keep it simple which is annoying for me because I like to have things engineered to perfection. I’m working on it. Overall, get it..Version: 3.52.1

HelpfulThis app helped me track my phone usage and be more aware of what I digitally consume.Version: 3.52.1

Fantastic AppOpal is such a great app to keep myself offline and productive. It has really helped to reduce my daily screen time from around 7hrs per day, to 1 or 2 hrs per day. I love the fact that I can completely block specific apps that have an impact on my daily productivity such as TikTok. Would highly recommend!.Version: 3.52.1

The perfect anti distraction appIf you compulsively use your phone and do social media, give this app 5 days to get used to it and try using it, although go shorter time off since it’s pretty hard to get used to it. Also doesn’t force a paid option down your throat..Version: 3.30.1

Great idea but way too expensiveThe concept and function of the app is really great and I would use this past the trial if it wasn’t so expensive. The cost is yearly, but I feel like I’d only need this for a month to get me on track, and come back to it in times of need and improved relationship with my phone. I’d pay a straight out, once off fee after doing the trial or perhaps a monthly payment but not a 3-figure yearly payment..Version: 3.21.1

Great for staying off social mediaI got this app after trying to use downtime to limit my use on TikTok and Instagram. Downtime would block my safari searches even if I didn’t have them limited but this is exactly what I was looking for. Now I don’t use any social media in the day which helps my productivity ten-fold. Not usually one to rate an app but this is just perfect for me.Version: 3.12.1

No longer a phone addict! This app CHANGED MY LIFE. I have been addicted to using my phone over the past few months where my screen time was going beyond 16 + hours a day. By using this app, my productivity and sleep has been so much better. Yes, the price is expensive but what cost more? your productivity or quality of life? I’ll continue to use this!.Version: 3.52.1

Opal is very pogI never write app reviews, but I really wanted to share just how great Opal worked for me! I had a really bad phone addiction, I would spend 8-10 hours on my phone and it really messed everything up for me— from being unable to focus on my classes to my mental state. I tried getting a burner cell, deleting all the distracting apps, yet it never lasted long. tbh, I didn’t think Opal would work as well (after all, it’s just an app, right?). But, after downloading my screen time went down to 5-6 hours and I feel much better now. I think a part of it is just how seamless Opal is at stopping all of the distractions. The apps seem like they work, yet they don’t refresh so u can be saved from hours of “mindless scrolling” but still get the effect of being connected to the world. All in all, I think this app is pretty genius and I’m very thankful to everyone who worked on it bc it is truly amazing!.Version: 1.19

Productivity at its finestThis app is the brilliant solution to staying productive. It allows you to control how and when you need to: 1. stay focused 2. Stay free from social media for a few mins or a few hours. 3. Whether you need to be deep in focus, or whether you would like to be able to check your apps every now and then. I’ve been using it for a year now and I’ve found a huge increase in my productivity at work and honestly at home as well. I’m not looking at social media as much anymore and that’s keeping my brain free from the craziness it can bring. You also have control of what you block, when you block it and for how long. Maybe you just want to stay off your phone for that; meeting, date night or that lunch with your friend. Opal will help you do that. Best part is that each week I can see how much time, I’ve given back to myself by not being on my phone. This app is gold. Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed honestly.Version: 3.40.5

Highly recommendedEffective in keeping me focused and it has definitely reduced the amount time I spend on my phone..Version: 3.41.1

Very effective at cutting the social media addictionI hate that I need this app but it really does make such a difference. Social media is designed to keep you scrolling for hours and I hate that I get sucked in. Opal helps me keep control. It snaps me out of it then I can decide ‘do I really need to be on Instagram right now?’ I actually have it on almost 24/7. Then just ‘take a break’ when I need it. Opal has saved me a looot of time!.Version: 3.30.1

100 percent recommendIf your addicted to social media or get distracted by certain apps and you just know you won’t stop using them then this app is for you! I have saved SO much time and been so much more productive using this app. No more mindless scrolling in the morning, no more wasting time! Get the app today you won’t regret it!.Version: 3.40.5

Great—but needs improvement.Great app, it definitely places a barrier on access to apps and websites on your phone. Even the most strict lock allowed by the app can be easily bypassed by deleting the app, but generally just having the block there is enough to stop you in your tracks when you automatically go to open an app. It’s a powerful tool. Some issues / comments I’ve got from a few weeks of use: - The messenger app is blocked during sessions even though I haven’t blocked it! I have blocked Instagram, Facebook, etc. but not messenger. Frustrating, as I would like to be able to still use messenger to communicate while blocking the other doom-scroll meta apps. - The app and website selection function for blocking is very clunky and doesn’t allow for customisation. You’d think you’d be able to search or enter in a website domain to block manually, right? - Would be really nice to see some form of cross compatibility for iPhone and computer, whether through a linked browser extension or app. Overall it’s a pretty pricey subscription, but worth it if your wasting untold amount of your life doom-scrolling. Hopefully some basic software qol improvements to come..Version: 3.30.1

Get your life backI’m genuinely excited to tackle the distraction of my phone. So far so good. The screen time UI used to depress me this has been really well thought out and is far more effective. The short pause time before being able to take a break of 20 seconds is good to stop you immediately being able to bypass the blocks..Version: 3.4

BrilliantIt’s a great app and really forces you off social media, very vigilant in its weekly turning off social media. It’s a good app, however a lot of the ‘advanced’ settings are premium which you have to pay for. I would like to see some more flexibility for free members, being able to have more than one set study session a week would be nice. Other than that, it gets the job done and you get your head down working..Version: 3.10.1

Highly recommend!!It really is a great app, with many features available to help keep you concentrated. Gives you full access, and your personal information stays within your device. Better than anything else on the market. Do yourself a favour and give it a try 🙌.Version: 1.0.12

A great way to limit yourself from procrastination!I had been unnecessarily scrolling through facebook and other social media while I had tons of work to finish. Even though I sometime felt anxious and found myself lacking in motivation, my subconscious wanted to open facebook and waste time and I had been looking for a solution since. With this app, I can block myself from opening facebook and other time wasting apps so that my focus is on my productive work. I really like how this app motivates me to refocus on my work whenever I subconsciously open those block apps with little notes. Even in the free version, the available features are enough for me to effectively utilize my time and keep myself away from procrastination! Great work! Keep it up! P.S (It would be better if the shape stones representing milestones are other forms. Some of them kinda look like D**do from afar. Or may be just me).Version: 3.30.1

Refunding?I was really happy with Opal! It really helped me keep focus without completely blocking off social contact so i enjoy the override feature too- It has definitely made a difference in how i study! I was hoping after the trial to renew it for a month at a time just for exam season as a student I can’t possibly afford the £90 all together. My subscription was automatically renewed and now i’m out the £90 which is really scary… I have tried reaching out to apple but i wanted to know if there’s anything else I can do because I really did intend only to get a month at time because £90 is out of the question regarding what I can afford. I would appreciate any help!.Version: 3.13.1

Life ChangingLike most my age, I’ve been struggling with spending too much time on the Internet/phone, ever since the iphone came out many years ago in my late teens. To my shame, average screen time of 8+ hours a day was common. After negative affects in my life, I was led to download this app. My screen time totals around 1.5 hours a day now! This includes email, text messages, and basic thing I still need to use! It’s a miracle! I have it on the strictest settings and only give myself 30 min a day to access all the other apps in the morning way BEFORE I typically wake up, so I end up not even using that time. Anyway. If you want to get your time back, download this app. Don’t waste your life in the “virtual world”… LIVE how it was intended to..Version: 3.30.1

Great app. Love using itOpal had indeed helped me with reducing my screen time by 50% Tried many things before but this magically works. I’m not sure how 😂.Version: 3.52.1

It really has kept me off of my phone!I downloaded the free trial of this to see if it helps with my productivity, and it really does. After trialling (and often failing) to use the iOS focus modes as it’s too easy to turn them off for the day, I needed something that would make it harder for me to procrastinate, and Opal does that well. My free trial is almost up and I’d love to purchase the product, but I missed the discount Opal offered me, if it comes back, I’ll most likely convert to a paying customer!.Version: 3.10

Great appDoes what it says and keeps me on task..Version: 3.52.1

Great appCool app.Version: 3.54

Love it!I’ve been Social media free for the last 4 weeks during my work hours of 9am to 6pm. It’s amazing! I managed to achieve soo much during my work time that I discovered my actual work only takes me about 4-5 hours to complete and previously it was being stretched out by wasting time on Instagram!💀 Highly recommend!.Version: 3.30.1

Perfect app for keeping me off my devices at bedtimeI have always taken a long time to fall asleep, my whole life. So I usually procrastinate about actually starting to try to fall asleep, and find myself on my phone or tablet too late at night. Found out about this app in an ADHD group. I have been using it for more than a week now and I LOVE it! Can’t imagine being without it now. Thank you Opal!.Version: 3.12.1

Locks the apps I really don’t needAs a student, I often procrastinate. This app helps as it automatically switches off my apps (which I preselected), and allows me to remove the distraction immediately without the choice of using them. It’s super easy to use, and has been a really helpful study tool..Version: 2.29

Approved but not EPICThe background design is so beautiful I must say. Currently, I haven’t come across any bugs. Summing up screen time by different types of apps is also impressive. I know it might not be the focus of this app but about Time Focused, there is only one little line about it. Can't find the sum of time I blocked distractive apps a day, if there is a function like this, it would be very motivating. And about the milestone existed, they all look perfect, but maybe you can add more milestones about hours focused(now there are only 10, 50,100,500,1000)? This might motivate some users to keep using this app since it becomes harder and harder to keep on after 100 hrs, the gap between these milestones is just too wide. Just find more shinning gems and add them. Might attract more long-term users. Looking forward to improvements!.Version: 3.52

Amazing App!Over the years I have tried many productivity applications to reduce my social media usage. I have tried cutting out social media out all together but, I have found that I can loose touch with loved ones that are not local. Opal provides a helpful solution for mindless scrolling and lack of focus during my work day. The ability to customize sections throughout the day and the level of “app blocking” you want has been incredible for me. I have noticed increased work productivity, feeling more present in my everyday life, and overall mood improvement. Highly recommend this if you are looking to reduce your time on specific apps without deleting them all together. I also really enjoy the data that they provide. As someone who works in data analytics, I love to see my progress! $100 a year feels worth it considering the time I am saving and increased work productivity..Version: 3.48

Amazing!Helps reduce your screen time, levels up your focus!.Version: 3.52.1

Saved hours of my lifeI avoid doom scrolling by taking a break and it allows my brain to switch back on. Just with the free version. I have saved hours of time. I would 100% recommend the subscription to everyone. Because that will save you even more time However I think that there should be a one time purchase fee for the pro subscription. I think that it would suit me more than a subscription. I would be prepared to pay a higher price than the subscription fee..Version: 3.48

Save yourselfThis is a must in 2024, we don’t realize how much time we waste looking at our screens, this puts things into perspective and makes it easier to stay focused.Version: 3.52.1

Changed my habitsOpal has transformed my social media habits and provided me more focus during work, was always a challenge as somebody with ADHD. I’ve got a new routine and helping me maintain a healthier digital lifestyle, setting a good example for my kids. Highly recommended!.Version: 3.50

Excellent appWell done!.Version: 3.52.1

AmazingI found this app advertised on TikTok and thought i would give it a go. I was shocked to see how high my screen time actually was and how much of my life i would waste if i kept it up. I have only had this app for a week, but my screen time has significantly decreased. This has helped me be more focused and has improved my mood as i am not just mindlessly scrolling on my phone all day. i couldn’t recommend this app enough!.Version: 3.52.1

Amazing App BlockingBest blocking app on the App Store. It includes motivational quotes and stories when you open a blocked app which is fun to read and it doesn’t need a subscription for most of the features unlike other app blockers..Version: 3.47

I hate lock mode but I need that function in my life“Lock mode” literally locks me out of the apps that keeps my distracted and forces me to get off my phone and study. I like how there’s a “shield mode” alternative as well for days when i can be a little more slack. I also like how both modes block notifications which is one of the main causes of distraction for me. Also the app itself is very aesthetically pleasing. Overall, a very great app!.Version: 1.0.11

Fantastic appReally helping me focus during working hours. Working from home is a struggle at the best of times trying to concentrate, but with this is fantastic to stop me getting distracted! This would be amazing for keeping kids off their devices whilst socialising with family and friends as well as reducing down their screen time!.Version: 1.6

Addiction finally broken?!I have never written an app review before. But this app finally made me want to. I have struggled so much with using my phone and tablet, for social media, news, travel planning, as dopamine inducing procrastination. It has been really problematic for me. This app has finally made great strides to breaking that habit. I’m not perfect by any means, but using the strict locks during the day and the variable ones the rest of the time, I am so much better. I don’t feel the same need or desire to pick my phone up, it doesn’t give me the same rush, and I come off social media much more quickly as it just isn’t as interesting to me. I’ve actually managed to start reading books again, which I didn’t think I could do anymore. Stick with the app, the making you wait to take a break is so useful as a starting point, but if you are struggling, set the harsher limits that you can’t remove - I still iMessage and call, and I’ve been able to reintroduce whatsapp now and control my usage. This really has been a life changing app for me. I hope it continues to work. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and recommend it to so many people. I’ve gone from picking up my phone 100+ times by mid-morning to easily ‘only’ picking it up 40 times a day - still sounds like a lot, but the early numbers were horrifying! Anyway, give it a go, this one really is worth a try..Version: 3.11.1

Only downside is that it isn’t 100% freeDefinitely helps productivity.Version: 3.41.1

Paywall… really? The app is amazing it actually has an effect on my phone usage but EVERYTHING is behind a paywall, considering it’s a more beefed up version of the settings app that shouldn’t be the case. I would consider purchasing if it wasn’t at the low cost of £20 A MONTH?!? The concept is good and I will continue using it but the price is just unjustifiable..Version: 3.13.1

Such a great appI love it. I got back my focus. This app is a guardrail against the modern attention economy..Version: 3.54

Great appHonestly this is a well rounded and thought out app I really appreciate the little quotes it gives of the locked apps when you click on them, I love the aesthetics where as you would think it to be a plain straight to the point type of deal but no the app is pretty patient with your needs and desires allowing you to really do this on your own time and it will be there and prepared waiting for you. You can tell a lot of thought went into this and that the creator do care enough to actually listen to there community and add the things asked. Overall love the app so far highly recommend for those in the majority like myself who can’t put their phone down when it comes to things that personally benefit them, though it seems less appealing then our quick dopamine rush that the phones provide.. the long term affects that these activities our daily needs and life goals will help us prosper more in life and throughout life then these phones ever could. At the end of the day our phones are just tools..Version: 3.49.1

(Almost) exactly what I’m looking forAs someone who is trying to limit my own screen time, this app is perfect compared to others that are more geared towards parental controls. Cute and easy interface that actually does encourage you to be mindful of how you’re spending your time. However, I wish the apps I can block were more customizable and reflective of the apps I have on my phone rather than just the general categories and apps offered. There are random apps that distract me that don’t fall under the listed apps, and why aren’t games on there?? Seems like a no-brained. Not everyone is distracted by the same apps but half the apps that are blocked aren’t even downloaded on my phone! Would be 5 stars if the i could block apps from a list of what I have on my phone or at least have a category for games. I still have the subscription because I forgot to cancel and will continue using with hopes that it keeps improving..Version: 2.11

Helpful appI really love this app because it is so well considered from the UI to the way it helps you curb your screen habits. I especially appreciate the lengths gone to with the copy for the blocking screens when you try view an app you’ve blocked. They are so fun and at sometimes super random, it’s a great way to grab your attention and redirect it. I also like how there is a timer to snooze before you pause a session, this is helpful. You can also make it harder to pause a session which is cool, I haven’t needed this tho..Version: 3.50

ExcellentExcellent.Version: 3.41.1

The only app that I have ever spent money that made me feel like I got more than I paid for.I work from home and therefore have my phone on me 24/7 as well as I own my own business so time is money for me and I realized I spent a ridiculous amount of day on non business apps. I’m like a drug addict with reels from any platform and the second I open Facebook, TikTok, or Instagram I would immediately loose an hour of my life just scrolling. Now that I have installed Opal and made routines for my morning meditation, business hours, and sleep hours I spend less than an hour of that on social media outside of business usage. It feels great to have my day back under control! Plus you can never buy back time so I would say that even at their current price point I have absolutely zero issues or buyers remorse paying for the entire year up front! 10/10 would recommend!!.Version: 3.30.1

A miss, for nowI love the visual redesign of the app, the improvement to leaderboards, and the gem system. Unfortunately update (and the removal of the VPN) has removed the one feature I used the most, blocking all internet! It was so useful when I just wanted to block all internet using apps but still send and receive calls and texts. I’m not a huge fan of the new approach - I find that when a focus session ends, the apps i blocked are either back where they were or missing…and then I need to take the time to add them back which is more trouble than it’s worth to me. I feel like this feature was launched before it was ready. I’ll certainly check back in in a few months to see if anything has changed..Version: 3.0.1

Really good app, but so many paywallsThis app is amazing. It is super effective and i have seen it help me decrease my average screen time from 8hrs to 5hrs. The lock mode helps a lot and the schedule u can set. The only problem is basically most of the features need to be paid for to get access to use them. Some of the UI in the app is also confusing such as the app limit and app break. Sometimes the app break doesn’t show up. And when i first downloaded the app it immediate told me to subscribe and i had to look for the use free version, it should be more obvious that theres a free version.Version: 3.21.1

Great way to switch off from work!If you find it hard to switch off from work and don't have a separate work mobile, then Opal is great. Have been using it for a few days and easily block Outlook, Teams and other work related apps out of hours. The Deep Focus mode is much better than the Apple Screen Time time limits where the latter is way too easy to just skip the time limit. With Deep Focus it really helps the temptation! Only annoying thing is once you know where the "workaround" is to switch it off then the temptation is still there, however I understand that this can't be helped. It definitely makes it harder and more longer winded though to "skip" the limit compared to Apple so will definitely be sticking with Opal..Version: 3.13.1

Great app!Great app if you want to monitor you’re social media & digital intake. Although, if you want access to the “pro” version it comes at a hefty price. But the free version is good too, it works for me! Will work for somebody who just wants to be more conscious about their usage..Version: 3.53

Social Media addiction GONE!!I’ve been using Opal for over 8 months I believe and it’s been nothing but a blessing. I work from home so naturally when I’m bored I’ll go straight on Instagram, but not anymore. I was able to kick the bad habit with Opal and I’ve recommended 7 friends already to it. 10/10 would recommend 👍🏼🔥.Version: 3.47

WorksSetting up the parameters for certain apps really makes a massive difference in my days. More focused, less distractions, the app lets me take back my time rather than mindlessly using it for social media 🥳.Version: 3.49.1

100% worth it with new free plan! This app works better than any other app blocker on iOS. Case and point, when I deleted the app after the free trial expired, I was on my phone until 5am! It works by making you become more intentional with your phone usage. What I love most is that it changes the way you interact with your phone. The intentionally you set includes not only what you want to do but the amount of time you think you need. Then, it automatically turns back on so you’ll never use your phone more than you need to. That was my problem; I was using my phone without intention and without a way to stop once I started. Despite this, I could not justify the cost of the app. Before the free plan, it was not worth it since I am a student and have negative income. Thank you to the team at Opal for making the app more accessible with the new free plan. It doesn’t have any of the extra bell and whistles that the paid plan has but it’s enough to stop my phone addiction. 10/10 would recommend..Version: 2.32

Great app but tiny issueIt’s a great app and I love the idea and it’s really handy!!! Just one thing is that it says if you invite 5 friends and they sign up, then you get a free subscription, well I have met the requirements and invited all my friends but nothing! :/ A bit sad about that.Version: 3.12.1

Love it!!I had no idea how much social media scrolling early in the day was affecting my mental heath until I started regulating it with Opal. Now I have a block on addicting social media apps until 3pm each day, so I can spend the first several hours of my day doing things that matter most. The main difference between using Opal to regulate screen time versus using the Apple settings is that the limits are a lot more easily ignorable with the Apple set up. Using Opal for app blockages requires you to actually access the app settings to ignore a limit. Because of this, it manages my screen time much more effectively so I now am using my phone a healthy amount. This app has helped me so much and I totally recommend it to anyone else who struggles with managing screen time!.Version: 3.30.1

First App to Actually Improve My ProductivityThis app has helped me tremendously in terms of helping me stay on track with my tasks and not getting distracted my apps on my phone. I high highly recommend everyone to get it, because it will truly help you become more productive since this app actually blocks distracting apps and incentivized mindful usage only. Opal encourages you to stop procrastinating with a direct solution, unlike most other apps. There is one slight improvement I would recommend, however. For the list of distracting apps, it currently only gives the categories but it would be really helpful if it allows us to select/deselect specific apps. For instance, Reddit is considered social media and I blocked social media, but I use Reddit as a source of news. The category of apps can sometimes be subjective, so adding this specific option would be very nice!.Version: 1.14.1

The only app i’ve ever ratedThis app is amazing, it’s fundamentally changed my productivity and relationship to social media. 10s 10s 10s across the board.Version: 3.52

GoodI enjoy the product but as a student I wish they didn’t limit so much behind a paywall..Version: 3.52

My screen-time went down by 46% in first weekSuper simple. Super effective..Version: 2.23.1

It worksI have been struggling with focus and concentration, i would pick up my phone and mindlessly scroll Instagram. Installing the basic app blocking from the morning to the afternoon has really helped me concentrate on work without distractions. Notifications are hidden and my phone and also my head is quiet and clear. Love it.Version: 3.46

If you have ADD/ADHD this app could help you outI have definitely been more productive, the first couple days are hard because you get tempted to go on social media. But since the apps are blocked you have no choice but get back to work/ study whatever is that you are supposed to do haha I have ADD so I have trouble focusing in general, I figured having a phone distracting me doesn’t make it better but worst to get anything done. Also you pay more attention to your loved ones. It’s worth having the app, it really does help you use your time wisely and give you your life back. Social media is a time eater. I need social media to show my work, I am a nail tech, but even though I use it for business purposes it still takes a lot of my free time away. So it’s nice to be able to post, get on here and there, get on track with my DMs but not waste my free time on it just scrolling down. So yes it’s worth it!.Version: 3.49

Healthy habitsThis app is incredible. I highly recommend it to anybody who gets distracted by their phone. It’s especially good for those of us who is phone habit is very unconscious. Because I am unable to use my apps in the way I would previously I have started to create a new healthy habits, which support a healthy level of productivity and more mindfulness.. My work rate is up my screen time is down!.Version: 3.30.1

I forgot I had a phone! This app made me forget I had a phone, seriously, I don’t even know where it is, have you seen it?.Version: 3.52

The App is GreatThe app has great, definitely recommend. The app offers a number of different insights and features e.g. number of phone pick ups, time spent on certain apps. Personalisation to meet the preferences, the timer on break times. Definitely a great app for those who want to reduce their screen time and prioritize other tasks or just disconnect social media or overuse certain app.Version: 3.52.1

Wonderful App for time managementIt’s really helped save times and stop me from using my phone whenever I feel bored. I’m glad that I have this tool to discipline me everyday and it allows me to conscious decide whether or not I genuinely want to use an app or if I am bored and want to spend lots of time wasted. It’s a fantastic app to get back into the focus of things and allows for deep work to be done. Thank you!.Version: 3.50

The Focus AppDistraction is a killer, especially working from home. this app is on before i wake up, disables all apps like social media, etc. always keeps you mindful when turning it off to access the other apps, and makes you reconsider your actions..Version: 3.35

It works, but only if you do, tooOpal has saved me so much of my time, and I’m very happy that the app doesn’t require you pay for anything to use its services. Though there is a premium subscription service with extra features, I don’t use it. Some days, I’m down to 15-25% of the time I used to spend on my phone, but there are some days where I’ll still spend maybe 6 or 8 hours on my phone. Old habits die hard, and the design of social media platforms today begets addictive behavioral patterns. In this attention economy, Opal gives you back your means of production. Or rather, it gives you a tool to stop yourself from throwing away those means (your time and attention). What you do with that is in your hands, and only you have the power to make sure you’re not side-stepping the app to put time back into your phone..Version: 3.52

Nothing has worked betterMy screen time was already relatively low, but I’m down 60% since implementing Opal. I have time limits on certain apps I need to use but get sucked into (I see you insta) and limits to the hours of the day I can use them as well, and it constantly breaks the habit of picking up my phone and unconsciously opening the app. Ultimately; I don’t want to be on them so it’s enough of a break in the rabbit-hole to bring me off. I love that you can increase the difficulty, and when I’m locked out of an app I can’t even search for it on my phone This is so well done. 👍.Version: 3.54

Genuinely very helpful!I do not usually write reviews but I want to say this is such a helpful app and has genuinely helped me in life! I have ADHD and self control with apps and the internet is just really challenging, but this app basically solved this problem for me. I did try another app but it did not seem to work well on my phone, so it did not really block the apps I needed to block very well. Opal blocks them completely for the time period I set it too, which is so helpful. Being able to pick and choose which apps I want to block is so helpful too, because I like to keep in touch with friends on messaging apps, but the other app I tried would group them in with the main sites I wanted to block instead of just blocking the individual app I wanted to block. For example, if I wanted to block facebook, it would block my messenger app as well which I would not want it to do. Opal is great in that is just blocks the specific apps I want to block. Honestly a really helpful, well programmed, straightforward app that for me is worth the money..Version: 3.53

Great app however free options are extremely limitedI’ve been using the app’s free version and I have loved the experience I’ve been having while using the app. It helps me stay off my phone while having it on me. The sessions and trophies are my best motivations for this app! However, it’d be more realistic to be able to set multiple sessions for different parts of the day as a free user. Since users should be able to choose to start sessions for different tasks like their homework, study sessions, family time, bedtime routine, etc. Without multiple sessions the app leads to people to want to set unrealistic goals like only using their screens in the morning or simply tempt them into leaving the session early. I’d appreciate it if you gave free users some more sessions to have available. Maybe even allow different schedules for different weekdays as well. Please consider giving these free users options for their sessions as they do in their day to day lives to help them..Version: 3.52.1

Made me more productiveThis app is good ngl I recommended it to people.Version: 3.52

Best investment everBought a year long subscription and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever bought - truly helps me beyond focusing on study. I use the schedules to prevent staying up scrolling on tiktok and deep focus mode is fantasticCurrently in my senior year of high school - constantly get distracted on tiktok, snapchat, and instagram while i’m trying to study, but i got my mum to buy me a year long subscription and it very well may be the best investment i’ve ever made.Version: 2.29

Am I productive now?I’ve downloaded this app at the perfect time! Since WFH, I’m so distracted and my main hobby now has been scrolling through social media (I’ve tried the “do not disturb” setting but it’s too easy to dismiss) so being able to turn off apps like this is so so helpful and I can already see myself doing a lot more work. I’ve even been able to set a schedule for the evening so I can actually get some sleep now! Also, side note, but look how little Opal is! Widgets are a big plus for me since iOS14 and this one fits perfectly with my phone ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.Version: 1.6

Needs some improvementFixed some of the bugs that I’ve had in the past, but now new ones have popped up. For example, it’s putting time restrictions on apps I haven’t even blocked during work hours which means their widgets don’t work at all. But other than that it’s great. I have 2 app suggestions which would be great features. I don’t mind if you have to make these premium, I would probably pay for them: 1. Lunch break option during work hours. I hate being restricted from notifications while at lunch and having to do a 15 min break 4 times per lunch hour is super irritating. So maybe an option for lunch just 1 per day so I don’t always have to tap “leave early” then remember to re launch the session? 2. An inbuilt pomodoro timer feature. Similar to the above, I use other pomodoro timer apps but it’s just too annoying to switch between them and opal when I want to have my 5 min or long break. But if you add these please make sure the timer doesn’t start until the user approves, as we should be able to work over the timer if required..Version: 3.40

People with ADHD rejoiceThis app is the best money I’ve ever spent. It’s excellent for two reasons; 1. Once you’ve been locked out of an app, if you want to go into it you have to first go to the opal app, and then wait for a 10 second count down before you can “take a break” up to 15 minutes - effectively unlocking your apps. This is great because it’s a lot of steps, so you only do it if you really need to. You can take as many “breaks” as you want during a session, it’s just a pain which makes me more likely to stay out of those apps entirely. 2. It will automatically lock you out of an app WHILE YOU'RE IN IT. For example, if you have opal set to lock you out of Instagram at 9pm and you are on Instagram at 9pm, the screen will suddenly go dark with the message that opal has begun. This - for me - is life changing as it helps break the cycle of endless scrolling without me having to set anything up before I open apps, which I often do without noticing..Version: 3.14

It’s a must for any StudentBeing a student heading into a-levels this app is a complete game changer. It’s amazing how it helps shift your mindset and removes the temptation to randomly just go on your phone and waste time. Regarding revision it is great as well as it allows you to not have to put your phone in another room you can simply put it in your room & just create a schedule or start a study session. You would be surprised how much time you actually save. You end up gaining an incentive to spend less time on your phone. As you feel a sense of achievement for not spending time on your phone, the daily reports as well help you reflect and feel proud of the time that you have saved. If you do have a day where you spend a lot of time it’s breaks down with its focus score what times and what apps caused the most issues encouraging you to be wary of these apps in the future. If I could give it more that 5* I would. It’s a must for any student that wants to take control of your studies. The only issue I have found with it is the pricing. Being a student it is quite expensive if a student offer would be available I think this would be a nice feature otherwise again an amazing app..Version: 3.11

A true lifesaver! (And timesaver of course)As someone with ADHD, I can’t recommend this app enough. I take stimulants to help with focus and productivity of course, but those can only do so much to keep me on track. A friend recommended this to me and oh my goodness… let’s just say I am finally making up for all the time I’ve wasted. There are a few things I would appreciate being added though, like being able to have certain apps unable to lessen my score when opened. Calculator, meditation apps, and Fitness apps are a few examples that I use often, which allow me to be more productive and/or healthy. Maybe this is already a feature and I’m just not completely familiar with the app, so let me know if I’m missing anything! I really appreciate Opal, and would love for you guys to consider my suggestions if they aren’t included in the app yet. Thank you! -Julia.Version: 3.30.1

It brings discipline to your routineIt’s a great app to help leaving the habit of checking your social media all day. But just like all the bad habits, works best only if you are willing to leave them..Version: 3.52

Dramatically reduced my screen timeThis is the first app which has worked for me to help bring my screen time down. The messages that show up when an app is blocked aren’t as easily skippable and they make you more present and aware before you can dodge limits. I got my screen time from 8+ hrs a day down to 2.5 so far, aiming for 2! Good luck everyone with beating their phone addictions, you can do this..Version: 3.52.1

Tremendous help!It keeps me off distractions when I need and keep track of my time on the screen! I really like the visual of the app!.Version: 3.52.1

Ça change ma vie!!!Vaut vraiment l'investissement pro!!! Ça m'aide à beaucoup moin perdre mon temps, quand je le perd c'est que je me permet une pause et le max 15 minutes est parfait! Je recommande x1000.Version: 3.52

Effective, expensiveMore insights would make this app awesome but it’s already pretty good. I’d like some sort of integration with health in which my Morning blocking routine begins when i wake up in the morning. For example if i open my phone at 8:30 it will stay on for 3 hours proceeding the moment that i woke up / opened my phone.Version: 3.52.1

It works!Nothing has been as effective as Opal for a reduction in phone use. I’ve reclaimed work focus, find myself more sensible with app usage, and have pulled back from the endless scroll..Version: 3.41.1

Great idea!!Really helpful app as I certainly fall into the category of being distracted just by the sight of my phone, let alone any notifications. Probably a little addicted to my phone. Used this for a few days now and I’m getting less distracted and am completing more work on time, could just do with an app for my Mac now. Would recommend giving it a go as it has helped me in the short time I’ve been using it. I also like the idea that all of my information is safe and is not leaving my phone..Version: 1.6

Great appOffers great free and paid options, and works well. Just what I was looking for—thanks!.Version: 3.52.1

Get on trackGreat to make you think dominoes to be scrolling.Version: 3.52.1

This app is literally saving my lifeI saw an ad for this app on instagram, while I was doom scrolling of course, and it stopped me in my tracks. I already knew that my addiction to my phone was a huge issue… it was so bad that my phone actually got run over my car and I committed to change my relationship to it after that but my resolve lasted all of 5 days. It’s so hard to break this addiction, but this app has truly given me my life back. I block instagram and news for 22 hours a day and omg the relief at not being able to look at this soul sucking content. I have been evangelizing this app to my friends and if you’re reading this review and you’re still not convinced, this is your sign. On the day I installed the app, MINUTES after, I literally wrote a story for a children’s book. It was as if my decision to take back my life allowed for a huge creative block to lift. I can now finally sit in silence with myself. Imagine going to the bathroom without your phone in your hands! Turns out my own thoughts are pretty great… now that I’m giving myself a chance to hear myself think. Seriously. Super grateful to the creators and to the brilliant marketing team..Version: 3.45.1

Great but a bit confusedLove this app so far (using the free trial) and it’s so good that it can block you out of the app without letting you back in (unlike Apple where is far to tempting to just click ignore). However, I have a 2 hour limit for Instagram but it blocked me out at 56 minutes….Version: 3.49.1

Fulfills it’s purposeMost of the minor things I would suggest for change would make it easier for me to dodge the app ;) which brings me to my point. This app does exactly what it sets out to do, take us off our phones and make it harder to get on it during the focus sessions. It annoys you out of the phone really, if you are really committed to spending more time of your phone this is for you; but if you plan on having the app and just ignoring its every warning and making it easier for you to skip past them, I suggest you figure out what you actually want first..Version: 3.37

Life changingI am reaching the end of my free week trial, and I am sold. I have always struggled with distractions, which is terrible when one is self employed. I have been more productive and prolific in both my work and private life, sleep better and no longer experience the dreaded brain fog. One improvement I would like to see in the future: currently the app doesn’t let the user select any less than 15 minutes for app usage before blocking. Which I find is still too long. I would love to be able to select a shorter time, like 5 or 10 minutes. Why isn’t the user able to make such decision?.Version: 3.18.1

My relationship to my phone has completely changedTitle says it all really. I’ve gone from compulsively checking my phone for social media apps to now having multiple days in between checking them. I’ve completely shifted my relationship to my phone, and that is having an effect in other areas of my life. I did think the app itself is quite pricey, but I’m lucky enough to be able to afford to fork out, and would definitely say it has been worth it..Version: 3.39

Went from 9 hrs of screen time to 3 hrs. Great for ADHD!This app has been great for keeping me on track. I’m honest with myself that I don’t need to use social media during work hours or right before bed, so I scheduled Deep Focus mode to block my distracting apps during those timeframes. My screen time is down to 3.5 hrs per day. I barely grab my phone as often. Because the Deep Focus can’t be unlocked I have no excuse to do my work or stick to my bedtime routine. They’ve recently made great user interface updates as well so the app is much more streamlined than it was when I first paid for the premium membership. The app is also available for sharing if you’re using an Apple family plan, so I can add this app to my nieces’ iPads so I can manage their screen time as well. Love it! Great app. I recommend. Especially for those with ADHD..Version: 3.52

This app is actually greatThis app forces me to be intentional about my phone usage, as i constantly start one task and end up getting sucked into something completely irrelevant and lose track of time. i added all my highest time wasting apps to my list and i have opal on all day long 7am-10pm. when i want to do something in one of these apps i “take a break” and decide how much time i want to spend, then i go and do exactly what i meant to for the amount of time i intended, without losing track of time. for me it’s the perfect balance because i don’t want to delete the apps i love, i just don’t want to use them unintentionally. i LOVE the function that makes you wait a few seconds to choose “take a break” too. and I can customize the apps depending on what i’m working on. i haven’t gotten to the point of syncing with different focus modes yet, but i’m excited to get to know the app more in the future. thank you, opal!.Version: 3.7.1

Helps me control my screen timeI like it. It is a bit expensive but it’s worth it.Version: 3.54

Helps me stay focused during the day!Even when I want to take a break - it’s easy to get back on track with the timer running down. Love this app!!.Version: 3.52.1

Thank god for this appThis app rocks and has helped me curb my social media addiction thank you for making it.Version: 3.54
