Upward: Christian Dating App for Negative User Reviews

Could be betterIt’s a great app but could better Ive several issues regarding my subscriptions I’ve paid for not reflecting in the app. Such as my elite membership that I purchased 2 maybe 3 different times this month as well as the several premium memberships none of which bare giving me access to those level features. I’ve messaged him them several times asking if they could fix that or refund my money and they never email me back. I emailed them Friday and they said they would get back with me and never did, I even wrote a review yesterday and it didn’t get posted. 2. A i had to create a new account after my phone number changed because of their system signing me out and making me type in my number which had been changed so it made me create a new account. So that may be part of the issue. So upward needs a different sign in method because folks change their numbers all the time and shouldn’t have to create a new account or not be able to access features because they worried about fraud. It’s the same IP address and name on the account and debit cards it’s not fraud I’d like the money back I’ve spent on both accounts this month especially seeing as though my old account I lost access to it 2 days after I paid the elite membership and the premium. How can this be fixed or I’ll just delete my account and tell my friends not to join here..Version: 2.20.0

Very buggyIt won’t let me log in. I try to put in my digits and it says invalid phone number. Bad start to the app..Version: 3.15.0

Used it for a day & deleted itAs many other reviews state the distance feature is outrageous. Majority of people were 200+ miles away. As a Canadian there are barely any profiles nearby. I have to pay $50 to unlock the list of people who liked me? That is a total cash grab. I would have happily paid $10-$15 just to see likes, but instead I go no satisfaction from the app, it became redundant and I deleted it..Version: 4.3.0

Not so great . POV of a woman living in MontrealSimilar to tinder or bumble or any other dating apps but I got like 300 likes from people who are just too far away from me. ( a few of them were up to 1800 miles away from me ) I mean you can set your settings up to only see profiles near your location . But it’s not the other way around. Every guy from I don’t know where ( USA) can see your profile. It’s a great app if you live in the US or near but here in Canada, not so much ..Version: 3.22.0

Can’t sign upThis app sucks, can’t even receive the sms on my number, canada!.Version: 3.22.0

What Happened?I’m not sure what changed on this app from the time I created my profile until now. It seems that there are no standards anymore to creating a profile. I thought there were moderators that approved and watched these things. There are now almost nothing but spam accounts or accounts of those who just want to bombard the platform with nonsense. I would expect more from an app that is garnered towards a specific group of people. I had hopes that more filtering options would come along as things progressed, but they have not. The elite and premium upgrades also seem silly and more garnered towards money. Speaking on filters, there aren’t any to help steer you in the direction of person you want to look for and it makes things more complicated than not. An age range is all that there is. I would much rather use bumble, but does not cater towards christians and it has also taken a turn in more of a cash grab than anything. Over the years I have had EVERY dating app and website there is and this one has now become another waste of my time. I have to delete my account, please fix these problems for future members..Version: 2.3.0

It’s AlrightI’ve met some people solid Christians on this app, even if most of that are fairly distant from me geographically speaking. However, there’s a couple of key annoyances. First, the number of people who have already liked me never drops, and I can (and have) swiped in excess of 400 people on one sitting. Still 99+. Second (and this combines with the first one), it will repeatedly (and randomly) revert to my general geographic area, showing me the same faces I have seen countless times. If I swiped away on someone, I generally did that with intent. I don’t want to have to swipe past everyone again, and again, and again so that I can finally encounter those people who purportedly already liked me. Finally, excessive notifications (“WWJD? Prolly start swiping for singles” - yeah ... probably not. Ditch that notification). I appreciate it for what it is. Technically speaking, I’m not very impressed. Subscriptions are overly expensive, and (unlike Hinge) undos are behind a paywall. Could be worse, but could certainly be better. Edit: I bit the bullet and got a subscription, just to confirm my suspicions. The majority of the people who had already “liked” me were people that I recognized as having swiped away. App is poorly developed. Edit: advertisements for alcohol now..Version: 2.20.0

Can’t sign inIt says that my phone number is invalid!.Version: 3.15.0

They’re on to something great!I think the app interface is simple and to the point which I love, I’m also someone who actually pays for “Elite”. One of the worst features is lack of location filter. It’s very frustrating when you’re reading a profile and you’re thinking “oh she seems like my type I would love to talk to her” only to find out that he’s 100+ miles away and you’re coming across way too many profiles of individuals who live 50+ miles away. This also leads to another issue because I’m noticing I’m spending more time than I would want to on the app because I come across maybe 5 profiles out of 20 who actually live in my area (I live in a metropolitan area). So outside of that I also wish there was a verification process like a photo to ensure you’re who you say you are. With that being said I think the developers are on to something great however after my current subscription end I’m not 100% sure I’m going to renew it because there’s another Christian dating app that apparently has a photo verification and location filter. I may just try it out after I’m done here however if you’re trying Upward for the first time I think you’ll enjoy it just keep in mind of the lack of location filter..Version: 2.2.0

Is it really Christian?I’ve only been on for a few days and already have people flat out admit that they aren’t Christian and there are others on the app from different religions. They just list as “Other” and in reality are Hindu or even just “Spiritual”. If I was okay with that, I would have used a different app. I expect Christians to be using it not the general population. I was not expecting many matches (if any) as I’m not the best looking (weight-wise), but definitely experienced the “shopping” that other reviewers had talked about - lots of likes but when matched there is no follow up. I’m pretty sure they just looked at the first pic and swiped. Also the Elite purchase is not worth it, I’m totally regretting it two days in. I liked the idea of seeing who matched with me because I don’t want to offend people by liking them while looking the way I do, but there is no way to filter it. I’m not interested in dating men that are up to 10 years my junior or 10+ years my senior. Or people who already have kids (unless a widower). I might give it a few more days but I’m not hopeful and it seems to be money wasted. I know what I’d need in a relationship and not going to settle for just anyone who is okay with my looks..Version: 3.11.0

Worst app everAs soon as they had all my info, they kicked me out the app and I can’t get back in, it’s a scam, let’s all get the app down to 1 star.Version: 3.22.0

No distance filterThere is only people over 350 miles and no distance filter. This is really frustrating. When I have a match it disappear.Version: 4.2.0

It’s okIt’s ok. Just be aware that guys (I’m sure females as well) will claim to be a Christian but then message you and ask for nudes or things of that nature lol. Started talking to a guy I thought was great until he started asking personal sex questions and requesting for me to send him pics. Then he unmatched me and hasn’t talked to me since even though I gave him my number and insta. I’m just coming out of a year of toxic relationships and I went into this app believing I could find a better guy. Don’t go into it expecting to find a guy that actually loves Jesus. It’s all a facade. They’re just using the app for easy and unsuspecting prey. You’re probably better off on Christian Mingle or Match tbh. On the plus side it’s free and simple enough to use. Just wish there was a way to go back to your last swipe or something like that. There are no distance filters or which denomination we prefer which would be nice. I’m ok with not seeing who liked me unless we match. But I’m not going out of my way to talk to a guy that lives hundreds of miles away lol. You can’t even see where they live. This app needs a lot of adjustments and I realize it’s fairly new but they should really work out those kinks..Version: 2.0.7

Filled with fake profiles. Terrible customer service.I want to love this app. But it’s filled with fake profiles and catfishing scammers. My account was disabled for no apparent reason, and when I emailed customer service they told me I would hear back within 24 to 48 hours. It’s been nearly 3 weeks and I’ve heard nothing. I called and was told to just keep waiting, and was given no timeline. If I ran a business this way, I’d be out of business. Update June 12: The developer commented on this review with an apology, but no solutions. I haven’t violated any conditions and was told by customer service not to contact them again or I may annoy them (I called one time and emailed three times because there was no response to any emails - only an initial response email that said they would be in touch - but they haven’t been in touch.) It’s been over a month and there’s been no response or explanation from customer service - they say “just keep waiting.” The irony here is this app is loaded with scammers and they’re blocking the accounts of people who have legitimate accounts and are paying real money. From reading other reviews, I see I’m not alone here. It’s one thing to make a mistake, but it’s another to not do anything to fix this mistake..Version: 3.12.0

WORST APPLICATION THEY STEEL FROM YOU !!!!!!!I paid over 60$ to get premium and l’été membership in less than 1 week . I can not see who likes me and ask me to upgrade again for elite. One star is too much !!!!.Version: 4.5.0

No reasonable filters? It’s really odd how you can’t really filter people by religion or radius. I don’t have the elite version, so it’s hard to tell if people are legit swiping right on me when I got like 300+ likes in the first couple of days. Without the elite version and without filters, you could be swiping all day which can be a big waste of time and a poor user experience. I appreciate what the app currently is as it has great potential, but it’s definitely a struggle for me when I would like to meet someone from a specific religion..Version: 3.9.0

DistanceI think there's a problem with filter.I don't get matches within my area. Often time I get far from my areas from 250 miles , 300 miles to 700 miles. Have tried to change filter still isn't working. Because of this I give 1 star Fix this.Version: 3.12.0

Last update was bad.First of all, we should have the option to filter out Mormons and Catholics and other non Christian religions. Secondly, I’ve had this app for a few months and it was working flawlessly before; however, after the last update it became very glitchy. When I’m listening to a podcast or music while swiping it will glitch out and my music will pause. I then have to go hit play and continue swiping. Two or three swipes later it’ll happen again. My usage of this app has diminished significantly. Please fix this. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it did not work..Version: 4.5.0

PoorI was literally just adding my info and it singed me out and then when I tried to login it said my account was banned or something. I literally had just opened the account and it blocked me .I didn’t add anything inappropriate..Version: 4.3.0

DistanceIs this only for people who live in the U.S?? Because I live in Quebec and everyone I bump into live over 200 miles away which makes it impossible to meet up.Version: 2.0.4

Good App…BIG PaywallThe UI is great, the community is large, & the match algorithm is good at showing you a variety of people while usually staying fairly close to your preferences. The prompts and preferences are great & fun to read through. That being said, Upward has put certain functions behind a pay wall that I believe should be part of the built in experience. For example…you cannot view the people who have liked you unless you subscribe to Elite, which is $30/mo!!! I simply can’t imagine why it would be priced @ $30/mo. Without this subscription, the only way it appears that u can chat with people is if THEY like YOU & then YOU, throughout your swiping, run across one of the people’s profiles who’ve liked you, and you like THEIR profile back. THEN will you be able to chat, as far as I can tell. This seems like an essential feature to have a decent experience. Using the app feels like i’m being asked for money a little too often. Not to mention there’s already built in ads that appear while swiping through people..Version: 3.23.0

This App Changed for the WorseProbably over a year ago, I remember Upward working like it was supposed to. Now, despite having plenty of “likes” showing up in the counter at the top of the screen, and the app showing me a little thumbnail preview of the girls I could match with right away “if I would just buy premium”, I literally never see those girls in my cards, and I get no matches at all. Apparently I even have a couple “super-likes” waiting on me. I should be able to see those profiles in my cards pretty quick, right? Well, after hundreds of swipes, still no luck. This makes literally no sense when back when I first used this app, matches were simple — the people who liked you would show up in your cards and vice versa. Not so, now. This is either an app-breaking bug or just blatant greed on the developers’ part to get people to buy premium. The latter seems more likely to me now, since every other swipe, they’re trying to get me to pay for extra super likes. This app used to be decent. Basic, and pretty surface level for a Christian dating app (I’m pretty convinced the developers aren’t Christians) but at least it worked. Everything is about money for them now. Really bad taste in my mouth from this app. Don’t think I’ll be using again..Version: 3.19.0

My account was disabled within 15 minutesSo I made an account and I was using it for first time for 15 minutes, with in trying to get my account set up it all of A sudden it logs me out right when I was adjusting the distance. Was it because I was a Christian creator on tiktok or did someone report me as a spam account because I wasn’t. Idk why it said it was disabled because I didnt violate and guidelines. And i know im not the only one who got there account disabled for no reason. And when it says it was disabled it doesn’t say why. And again I would never do anything that would violate the terms and conditions. Please fix this bug. Never using this app again, oh wait I cant always because I’m banned for no reason. Update: after reading so many of the reviews, Of people saying that there is so many people that are spam accounts and fake accounts there was probably someone that reported my account thinking it was fake. Also please consider taking the distance off profiles because when someone sees that it makes it easy for some to stalk people. And what do I take out of this, maby GOD did not want me on this app, so thank you for deleting it because honestly I would of probably deleted it the next day. Be carful and to say this was my first time using a dating and and never will again..Version: 2.16.0

No distance filter and seeing same-sex optionsWhy is there no distance filter and I’m seeing women to swipe (I’m a female and am straight & yes I checked my settings) :S Please fix this and add a distance filter..Version: 2.0.14

Full of scammersI have never interacted with more scammers in my life than on this app. Having more profile requirements might be helpful, but overall it’s just not very good in Canada..Version: 3.19.0

Don’t waste your $$, full of scammersI give this dating app negative 5 stars. Save your money this app is full of fake / scammer profile. I’ve been on the app for a couple months now. And out of all the matches there was one guy who was who he said he was. Everyone on here seems to have the same story” deceased” wife, parents, etc. Are in service or serving and about to be deployed. They charm and use Christian jargon, almost always ask right away to go outside the app to chat, like WhatsApp or google chat. I have reached out in email have reported fake / double profiles and have not heard a peep from the anyone. It’s sad that they are using this as a Christian dating app. So false! This one guy after chatting with for like two weeks, starts with a message about how “bad of a day he has had “his aunt has been in a car accident and is locked out of his account.” He need help having a packed delivered to the states and can he use my email address to send me a tracking number so I can follow the package, in it would be expensive jewelry and shoes and watches and he was going to be “transferred 20,000 dollars”… needless to say I didn’t give it any more attention and reported him right away. But if you made it this far in my review please do your research this app needs a verification system to keep all these scammers off the app. Just keep your money..Version: 3.19.0

Don’t botherLadies please don’t waste your time on this app. I don’t know if I’m the unluckiest person on the planet or what. But I’ve been ghosted by everyone I’ve matched with. The men on this app are immature. They like my profile first and then we match and they never respond. I exchanged two words with one of my matches and then he ghosted me. But mostly I can’t even get that far they just never respond. Like why match with someone if you aren’t going to say anything. They are mostly “shoppers” which means they match with multiple people and then decide who they actually are interested in. So stupid🙄🙄🙄The men on this app just want to play games and waste your time so don’t bother. Just ask God to bring you your husband and take the money you would have wasted on this app and go out to a celebratory dinner that you aren’t wasting your time with these dumb immature men that apparently don’t know what they want🙄 I had high hopes for this app and expected better from supposed Christian men. I’m mad because I bought the three month subscription and will have to get constant notifications that another waste of time man has liked my profile..Version: 4.3.0

Don’t BotherDon’t waste your time with this app. It’s a scam that targets honest, trusting people who will pay up to try to find someone decent. But $99 for six months? That’s ridiculous! The free version basically allows you to just set up your profile, and swipe left or right, but if you want to see anyone’s profile who has matched with you/likes you you have to pay. And there’s no other way of messaging them unless you pay up. Also, why can’t I change what age range I’m seeking, and the distance/location is way off. Save yourself the trouble and don’t even bother. You might as well go meet someone the good old fashion way.Version: 4.8.0

This app is filled with fake accountsI’ve been using this app for a week now and I keep seeing different names and pictures with the exact same profile word for word . I also keep seeing people on here twice. One of them will be local and the other will say 400 miles away or so. When I do connect with someone they don’t seem like they are trying to get to know me at all. They just want me to download WhatsApp or telegram. The only real conversation I had on here was going good for a day and then she suddenly flipped out because one of my profile pictures is me at a table with a plate of oysters in front of me. She started saying I was trying to manipulate her into having sex because oysters are an aphrodisiac. I was so confused because I had never said anything remotely sexual to her, all I said was,” I like oysters,” which I’m guessing she took as I like sex. Then she started calling me a pervert. Over all my experience on this app has been horrible. I’m a genuinely good guy with a strong faith and to be accused of such things is beyond hurtful. That combined with the numerous fake people has made it almost unbearable. I wish I would have given it a few days before I payed a subscription..Version: 3.14.0

LukeWarmI love you but I hate you, no distance filter = all my time and efforts for a long distance relationship. I guess the least i could do is pray for them. Oh, and I cant even go back if i swiped left on accident? So what do I do? Restart my account?! And if it’s telling me someone likes me, hook a bother up?! & put that person in my list of swipes... Or tell me who it is at least. I have faith in the dark for Jesus not your dating app. Lol add super likes maybe? Instant like and people will immediately be aware of who it is? And to go back on swipes should be a must! I feel like i lost the love of my life. She couldve been someone that liked me! This bothers me a lot. Also please add a filter of which denomination we prefer. If this werent an issue, we all wouldnt be attending different churches lol. PERSON AUTHENTICATOR! Please! For all the fake catfish accounts! The idea of your app. Is great, but seriously, no offense... it clearly wasnt thought through. Let’s be real... It reminds me of a college assignment i held off till last minute and just did ENOUGH to pass. So please, as a teacher... take this assignment back! And bring me back your best! Especially during quarantine season. I’d like to go out soon, and meet a wonderful Proverbs lady to intertwine my soul with. Seriously hurry up my whole family’s asking when I’m gonna get married. Hahaha Thanks FTH <3.Version: 2.0.2

HackedOnly rated the app 2 stars instead of 1 since I enjoyed the interface. The actual app itself is riddled with catfish/bots I’ve run into many in a short few weeks. My account got hacked sometime around 11 pm today I only noticed it when I got a notification saying that I had a new like on my profile (which is rare) so I looked and when I saw that a man liked my post I was kinda taken back. Then I went to my profile and saw that someone changed all my photos and my gender to female, I wanted to delete my profile but I payed for a subscription so it won’t allow me to delete my current account😩..Version: 2.22.2

UnorganizedI keep seeing Catholic and Islamic beliefs on here.. or even atheists. Do these people not know what Christianity is or who this app is geared to?! Also, need geographical parameters; over 80% of the people I see are American I’d say..Version: 2.0.14

TornI’m torn on this app because on one hand it’s nice because it’s algorithm isn’t absolute garbage like tinder or bumble. The app is supposed to have Christian singles, which I see for the most part. My problems arise when I can’t find a girl within 200 miles of myself. Every other dating app gives you the ability to limit the distance at which you see other singles along with other filters. However upward only allows you to use the age filter. They just don’t have it, you don’t even have to upgrade to use it. Also, I have some likes, I’ve only come across 2 of them over the course of weeks. Overall, my biggest issue with this service is the fact there is no distance filter. I know upward is a smaller app, but I don’t even want to see a girl if she is more than 30 miles away. I know this is harsh, but I and many other people just don’t really care for a long distance relationship. I’m definitely not hating on the app, i like the app, I just want more options. This review is really just for the developers. Hope you guys are working, or will work, on these issues. Thanks for your time if you read this..Version: 2.5.0

Pretty good, but..The problem with this app is the lack of a distance filter. You see how far away they are when you click on the profile, but it’s cumbersome to click on the profile every single time you see someone attractive. Their location should be one of the first things you see, and should be on the main card. Additionally, there’s a problem with age as well, at least for me, being an 18 year old. The smallest age gap I can have is 18-24. That’s simply no good, because a vast majority of people 18 year olds do not want someone that much older than them. A smaller age gap would be much better for people who are younger. This app also gives less information about the person than other apps like Hinge. In some other apps, it shows their height, political beliefs, and a few things they’re into. This app has no such thing. Other than that, this app is great. Even as a non attractive male, I was able to get 7 likes in a short period of time, and even matched with 3 of them. The people on this app are much better people than the ones on Tinder. You get the feeling that they’re on the app for an actual relationship, and not just a hookup..Version: 2.7.0

Full of False Profiles and Scam ArtistsI reported or deleted almost 10 in one day. The first guy I chatted with had at least two different profiles. I kept going and every one I matched with was a false profile. They have believable stories at first glance. Then they want you to communicate with them on their international WhatsApp. When you ask them why do you need WhatsApp if you are in the states they say theirs cell phone is somehow not working, or they use WhatsApp for Work. I have a Christian friend who has been caught up in this scam from Upward for half a year. The guy says he is in Germany and he used to live in this area and he is returning, but he never does. There’s always something that prevents him from moving back to the states. The scammers are familiar with a lot of Christian jargon. The last one I talked sounded real and when I mentioned the scammers he got real nasty and said I was a false prophetess and continued to say ugly things. Before that he was an educated successful Widow. Oh yes, they most often say they are widows. They may say they have a child too. It depends on the age. I have heard nothing back about the reports and I also have not heard back from customer service when I reported this problem! 😡 Is not use this app if I were you. I already paid and can not get my money back!.Version: 3.9.0

C3I agree with Chrrisy@Elevation’s review. A lot of people on this app are confused between Catholicism and Christianity. Like there’s a huge difference and you can’t categorize a faith based relationship with God with someone who believes in a priest. You can clearly tell in their bio who is really christian and who’s not, but it’s so much work to have to filter through. It honestly just makes me question the people who made this app like do they even know the difference?? Also the distance thing like why is the radius so far?????.Version: 2.0.7

There’s some problemsI was really excited to come across this app since its really difficult to find Christians on dating apps. But I started noticing that the profiles sound similar and there’s A LOT of fake profiles with model looking pictures. Once you start talking to these people you can quickly see their words don’t match their pictures and they don’t write like someone from the US. Then they want to talk on Whatsapp…. if you are sitting in the US, you can just regular text. I’ve done Google reverse image on some of the profiles and sure enough….. the pictures actually belong to a model or influencer or something like that. There needs to be a way to verify the profiles and set up a way for someone to get enough information without leaving the app until you are ready to chat off the app. And possibly have a way to video or voice call or just send a video or send voice messages within the app. It’s not a really big deal for me but most of the matches are at least 100 miles away. Chatting online used to be fun and a way to meet people to talk to or build a relationship with but I feel like this is just another way to get disappointed on apps. And people are using this app to prey on Christians who are good hearted..Version: 3.13.0

Can’t even use the appI have downloaded, deleted, and redownloaded this app too many times. i can’t access the app. everytime it says to sign in (though i’ve never created an account), it says to input my phone number, and i never get an access code!!! what’s going on??.Version: 4.8.0

Another useless appClearly they don’t show your profile to the profiles you swipe right on it’s a typical app scam and I’m sure most of these profiles are fake as to make the app seem appealing. Just another in the pile of useless date scam apps.Version: 3.20.0

Meh……Nuff saidOkay as a woman using this app I guess there are some positives and negatives. I tried this app for exactly 2 days and at first it was fun and exciting seeing the likes and watching them add up but I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. I’m the type where if I already know someone likes me I’m more willing to invest time into that, but I couldn’t see anyone who liked me and that became frustrating after the first couple days when you have like 100+ likes but barely any matches. Lol. It’s not even that I swipe left on someone because they are unattractive but you just don’t know who would be into you and I guess that’s something they could consider fixing. I also agree with another reviewer in that when you do get matches, many people ghost after…due to browsing and “shopping” to see more matches. In this way I feel as though it’s a bit tricky to truly find someone who isn’t consistently browsing for more matches. Or the person is just not taking it seriously. It’s like it becomes a habit that many can’t stop and no true matches follow through to go on into anything deeper beyond “How are you?” I do believe there are some real people on there looking for something but personally it’s too hard to find them and I would rather let God do his work without me trying to force it. It’s not for everyone, but when it works (IF IT WORKS) it can really lead to great things I guess..Version: 3.4.0

Fairly Solid For A “Christian” AppOf all the Christian apps I’ve downloaded I’d say this is the second best. It’s got a large user base and is user friendly. It’s basically just like any of the other dating apps that are out there which also partly makes me think it is designed and owned by one of the major players like tinder or bumble or someone. I say that because there’s filters like “I’m here for 1. Friends 2. Casual 😉 3. Dating 4. Marriage” and it’s asks you to list if you smoke weed and how often. Now obviously Christians smoke week and hook up (casual) with people but if you’re truly and God honoring Christian who loves Jesus and attends church weekly, you’re probably not creating an app with those questions. So… if you’re looking for a serious Christian, this app probably isn’t your top choice but there’s still a vast number of Christian singles on here so it may be worth your time. Compared to the other app I’m thinking of though this one isn’t close. The other one asks a lot of questions to start but is legit a Christian app for Christians who are serious about Jesus and dating with intention. This is just tinder with a more specific user base..Version: 2.20.0

FrustratingThis app went from annoying to extremely annoying after the update. The amount of unnecessary and unwanted prompts is unbelievable. I can’t imagine what the notifications are like I turned that off a while ago. The amount of compromise from the creators of the app makes me question if they have any Christian values themselves at all. Netflix and chill stickers on a Christian dating app? Really? Also, I understand the desire to make money off of an app you’ve created there’s nothing wrong with that, but greed has definitely taken over. They continue to remove more and more free features and lock them behind a paywall. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweaked the algorithm to make sure you don’t see people that have liked you unless you pay. It’s a shame because this app definitely has potential. What can I expect though, they always end up being the same. The love of money is the root of all evil and this app is proving that to be true..Version: 3.17.0

Pretty clunkyUsed for about 4 months. The actual mechanics of using the app are pretty clunky-you have to swipe through each individual picture of a person or you can skip to their info and bio at the bottom. Sometimes I can see info and bio with the pictures but more often I can’t. Compared to other apps where pictures and text are often mixed together on one page, this mechanic is cumbersome. Also, the matching process is not great, at least if you don’t pay. I was told that I had over 40 likes, but I only ever saw 2 of them, and only 1 person out of dozens that I liked matched with me. The other apps I use, which I also haven’t payed for, do a much better job of putting people who have liked me into my feed. Another problem is that some people will show up in your feed multiple times after you have disliked them. As many other reviews mention, the distance filter is pretty hit or miss. I live in a major metropolitan area and I still get options over 50 miles away maybe 1 out of every 5 choices. The tipping point for me was that I chose to hide my profile because I was traveling and was not able to turn it back on..Version: 3.8.0

Good App but some thoughtsFirst off this is a very good app. It is very Christian based, the results are Christians looking for more than a fling, and the app itself is very user friendly, with a lot of good profile customization options. I gave it three stars because I have something to say to the devs. Devs, seriously? 1. I can’t really do anything when I haven’t paid a subscription. Sure I can like but can’t even seen my likes? Seriously? Hinge is charging less than you a month (or were), AND I can see my likes, PLUS message my likes without a subscription!! Come on Upward; be the better app. 2. Quit with the sleeze tactics to get me to open the app now and again! False likes, way too many notifications to just get me to open the app, and even blatant lying that I have likes when I haven’t paid the subscription again. Upward, Hinge is beating you by a mile, and you’re supposed to be the top Christian app? Quit with the sleeze tactics, act like a proper Christian app, and be the best app on the market! Everyone else? Judge the app for yourself. These are just my thoughts and comparisons. Have a good one!.Version: 3.15.0

Not a real Christian dating appWhy does a “Christian” app encourage xlgbtqx relations? I have nothing against that but just don’t call it Christian app because Jesus Christ won’t approve of this. Thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽.Version: 4.10.0

PointlessWhen you hide then un hide your account, the app stops sending new likes. When you report a spam account, your next swipe is also a spam account, so you’re just swiping and reporting over and over again until you finally land on a real profile. When you set your filters, the system doesn’t show likes unless you leave it at maximum distance. Ultimately, I’d tried to get premium and it didn’t work until the third try. I had to get two refunds because profiles were still blurred out, and my second try, my subscription went to my deleted account somehow, which means, they don’t truly delete accounts from their database when you close your account. In addition, everyone is super far from me since this app is advertised as an American app! Why not just say the continent of the Americas rather than just advertising America? That way, we know that there will be Canadians on the app too. Thus, more Canadians will sign up, and they will in turn have more close matches. I’m going to get my third and final refund and delete my account..Version: 3.23.0

Started ok but keeps getting worse…It’s basically a Christian Tinder…often with more of the Tinder aspects than would be good. You do meet some people but there really isn’t enough of a user base so quickly users are from 150+ miles away. After about a week of minimal swiping you’ll get back to square one being shown the same people again. You can tell it to only show you people in a range but they never adhere to that range. They force you to accept seeing people outside of that distance. There is no definite block to only see people in an area. They also weirdly don’t show people closest first. It’s completely random orders. The notifications have to be the worst part…half the notifications are just trying to get you back to the app literally…”(insert catchy phrase to get you back to swiping)” that’s not a filler that’s nearly word for word what some notifications say. One or two times it’s funny but regularly multiple times a day those and worse notifs get annoying. They also often will send out fake matches and likes and liked numbers. In the see who likes you paid part it’s shown me a number then I’d go into it and it’s at least 10-20% lower number usually. Then occasionally there’s a “You have a Match with ****!” Or “Somebody new likes you!” and there’s nothing there..Version: 3.17.0

This app has potentialI’m a Canadian using this app. My first complaint is the swiping left and right. Sometimes, I’m just trying to swipe up and look through a person’s pictures, and the swipes left or right on the person (and if you don’t have the premium account, you can undo what you did). Second issue is if you’re in Canada, you’re not going to find a lot of people near you. So far, 15% of guys on here (or less) are actually in Canada. Except you don’t mind long distance. My last complaint is the price of the premium upgrade. BEWARE, THE PRICE IS IN USD. I thought it said $30 but I ended up paying almost $50, so keep that in mind..Version: 3.1.0

Limited optionsMy biggest peeve is the lack of a distance filter. I’m at the point where I’m getting suggestions for people >250miles away 😩😩 Like that’s ever going to happen.. will probably delete soon.Version: 2.0.15

Got my hopes up… Another disappointmentI’ve been on this app less than a day. I’ll come back later to write an updated review. So , far, however, it looks like all of the negative reviews are correct, unfortunately. This app is full of bots and shady profiles. In less than 24 hours I’ve had three matches. One was obviously a bot, one I haven’t reached out to yet, and one asked me to meet almost immediately (which is fine), but he insisted that I go to his place for the first meeting and unmatched when I suggested a public meeting first. I think that was a real person but I got a very bad vibe out of it, like there may have been something worse going on there that could seriously jeopardize someone’s safety. Be very cautious when using this app, even more so than you would any of the rest of them. I think I’ve figured out how to spot these fake profiles (their “faith” section is very vague, for one), so we’ll see. That said, as a Christian/Conservative in a Leftist city, it’s a nightmare trying to find a match on the mainstream dating apps like Bumble, Hinge, etc. I swipe right maybe 1 out of 500 times because most of the people on those apps are the Atheist/Liberal types or they are looking for hookups and polyamory. I’ll try this app out a little while longer, but am very disappointed. They just need to add a way to verify profiles..Version: 3.2.0

App seems decent, but better verification would be nice. The app is pretty simple to use. And I like that you can only communicate with mutual matches. The one thing I’m disappointed in is that there seems to be no effort in verifying if the accounts created are real. I guess that’s pretty much the same as any app. Even having someone submit their licence or something would probably help reduce the number of fake/scam accounts. Of the three people I connected with so far, all three were scammers. I know it’s not the app’s job to help you make a match, but verifying users would be helpful and it would give me a bit more confidence in communicating with people. Just a suggestion..Version: 3.22.0

Confused and upsetI never write reviews, but I am so upset by this app. I got this app a few days ago, like today is the 4th day. Everything was great and I was really enjoying the experience with it. Had good matches and actually had guys texting and interacting which was not the case on the first app I tried. So I was in the middle of a conversation with a guy and my phone went to sleep and when I went to check my messages again my app logged out. I went to log back in and it’s saying my account is disabled! I have not violated any community standards, my pics and profile was all appropriate. Even if something was wrong the app doesn’t give you any warning and there is no response from customer service. There is no phone number and no reply’s come from the emails. I have sent many emails now because I paid money for this app and I have not done anything wrong so I would like to know why I cannot access my account. This is supposed to be for Christians but that seems really shady! I’m really disappointed especially since I had a great first day and 1/2. I would have given a 5 star if this was corrected but I’ve read another review where this happened and Upward would not give a reason and banned him permanently. So I am assuming that will happen to me, which is not fair especially not even giving a reason why you’re banned. 😠.Version: 2.3.0

??So I have to pay first before I can see who liked me?.Version: 3.22.0

Glitchy app and my account was disabled with no explanation! My account was terminated for no reason and why I inquired with the support team they said they can’t share this information with me! And I can’t create another account. All I was trying to was find my special person and hopefully get married one day. I don’t get it!.Version: 4.3.0

Atrocious, DO NOT USEI can’t begin to explain how terrible this app is and to think that these developers are Christians or believers of God is outstanding. The interface sucks and is covered with promotion to go premium which is undeserving on their part. Everyone you find on the app is 150 miles away or more and the restrictions you put (distance especially) are ignored. The messaging system is garbage, the paid promotions aren’t worth it. You’d have better luck finding someone NOT using the app. Use bumble or something else because this sucks and they know it..Version: 4.3.0

Badly needs distance, height, and education filters.I wanted to like this app because dating as a Christian woman in your late twenties is hard y’all. Unfortunately, this app does not do it for me. I bought the premium version thinking it would have more features and save me time, but all of the important filters for me (distance, height, education) aren’t options! The app shows you people who are 150 miles away without letting you filter down the distance. How is that practically supposed to work? Also I don’t care who thinks it’s shallow, height is incredibly important! I’m 5’11” and it is uncomfortable for me to date someone who is shorter than me, and it’s uncomfortable for them too! If God wanted me to marry a short man, he would have made me a short woman! I put my height in my bio so that men can know how tall I am, but this really should be a filter because no one needs to waste their time flipping through profiles of people they are physically incompatible with or guessing how tall they are. Finally, being able to filter for education is also incredibly important! This goes back to basic compatibility, people with similar education levels are more compatible. Yes it’s possible to guess someone’s intelligence from their profile, but please save us time and improve your app by making this a filter. Why does this app have such high ratings? Who is this even working for???.Version: 2.5.0

Beware of ScammersThis app has Scammers which is very disappointing for something that’s suppose to be Christian based. Beware ladies beware of people asking you to buy them Steam cards..Version: 2.0.6

Pay to win, groups/meet ups in real lifeI find the app helpless, I like everyone, I pick and choose. I match with only 5 people, when I chat they never respond or we aren’t a good match. I think I would have more chance in the church, outside at a bar, in a group singles dating meet-up, but none of these are setup. I would have hoped out of all apps, the Christian one would not be pay to win, or pay for your wife. Even though I could I conscientiously think that’s wrong. I would have maybe more of a chance on a dating app like tinder or bumble. I even wonder if it’s only men that are seeking, if women just post on there just to feel better, and are not serious. Seems like if your only good looking the app might work for you. I even made a women’s profile to see the men that are on the app, and to some degree that also makes you feel kinda helpless. Total waste of time, I would have hoped that after 6 months or maybe years it’s been that I would have found someone. Literally would be better if only the women sought after for the men, because there is to much competition with us. Also boggles me that there isn’t any matching filters, that I have to judge 100,000 women based on their looks, and probably haven’t read 5% because my time seems so limited. I’ve spent hours disliking/ liking until I have no more or only liking to finish in 10 minutes, to see if I have any chance. Pay to win, should have groups/meet ups in real life..Version: 4.3.0

Took all my info and then disabled my accountAbsolutely terrible service and more than likely a scam. I set up my account and uploaded all my personal information in an hour later went to login again and my account has been disabled.??? I’ve written three times to their current customer support with nothing. Their phone number doesn’t work. Definitely a scam and I’m going to report them. Do not use this app..Version: 3.12.0

Bad appI am not only very disappointed with the way I have been treated on this app, but am rather angry as well. I am bombarded with demotivational “motivational” reminders to use the app, when it never works. I am an elite member. I paid for an elite membership. Still can’t see my matches, not view their profiles! It thinks I’m still a basic member! I have tried calling Upward, and have tried emailing them MULTIPLE times! The first time I tried calling they hung up on me. I tried calling again later and all this lady could do is complain about an earache! I have emailed multiple times and have gotten no response. I will now warn this app that I WILL call the Internet Crimes Complaint Center for a criminal activity investigation. I WANT my money back! This is NOT okay and all I get from this blasted app is that I have no worth and that I am trash. That’s the way people treat me and that’s the way this terrible app treats me too. And before you go crying that I am being petty, you don’t know what’s going on in my life right now. I just simply want my money back, the problem fixed, or guess what? I will make sure this app gets shut down. I WILL report it. Simple..Version: 2.18.0

Poor security with 0 customer serviceHijacked accounts aplenty. My account got hacked and I couldn’t access my account to delete my data. Tried calling customer service but only got an automated response with no working hours. I’d suggest using more established apps with tighter security and people who actually pick up the phone👎.Version: 3.12.0

Just know what your about to enter.I’m not gonna make a 5 paragraph essay on my life, but in short terms: high school sucked, and meeting women in college sucked. All my friends are finally getting relationships and I am stuck being single and tried for years to score a win with a girl. Close victory yet so far, because every time they wind up ghosting me for some stupid reason. That’s what this app is, a lot of ghosting because you slipped on something you might have said. Not really the devs, but the immature women who have no idea how to use the internet or online dating apps, yet spend hours a day on Snapchat and TikTok. Point is, guys like me, prepare for a lot of ghosters. Now let’s talk about the app; Upward should really have an upgraded chatting feature for people who actually spent the 30-60 dollars. People who are free to play, should still have something to see who likes you and chat somewhat. Honestly, I wish you could get a free Boost every 2-3 days and not a month (I believe that’s what it is). A boost should also last one hour and not 30 minutes as not many people use this app for too long at a time. Rewarding subscribers is the good way to go..Version: 3.1.0

Notifications are driving me nutsI’ll be honest I have not had a great on this app, some of it is my own stuff, but the app notification have been driving me nuts. I personally don’t have a ton of apps I let give me notifications anymore, but I let this one because I want to be able to get notifications for messages. I don’t have any social media so this app is the only way to communicate unless we exchange phone numbers, which I don’t always feel comfortable. I know other people don’t right away either. I get a notification to start swiping seemingly every few hours. I understand that this is how these apps work, but it’s a little annoying. I decided to pay for 3 months of premium so I could see who the likes are coming from. It seems to me like they push your profile to get a bunch of likes prior to paying for premium or whatever to see who it is. As soon as I payed for the app the likes went down to one every week or so. I might not be the kind of person that gets a lot of likes anyways but it was weird it went from 8 in the first week, then down to maybe 1 a week after I payed. The thing that drives me the most nuts is what I can only call the phantom like. It’s only happened 2 or 3 times since I started using the app. The app notifies me I got a like, but when I go to the app to check out the profile there isn’t a like. It’s great way to get me to open the app, but whatever. Idk, if it’s a glitch or what, but seems kinda fishy to me..Version: 3.13.0

Not for christians or catholics / satanicTerrible app, how is this a christian app and you know were in the end times and yet you make a pay walll to allow christians to find proper courtship this is a demonic app or greed took over good morals. Its hard to find proper courtship and you make a profit on your brothers in the body of Christ to make it harder shame on you, we all have to answer to God..Version: 4.5.0

Money focusedSeems like paying for a subscription is not enough, now I need to pay to see likes. Just a sly way to milk you a bit more to beware. There should be one subscription price so it’s not complicated. Also, obviously this company is not Christian, because they think catholics are the same as everyone else. There’s a huge difference. Also I can’t even filter out the catholics, which gets annoying. To make things worse, many times I swipe up to see more pictures it sends a like instead because it’s too sensitive. Finally, it is beyond me why they limit the filter to only three criteria. I need at least 4 to 5 minimum. Perhaps it’s to force people to see other people, but it only clutters the list. You’re not gonna force me to see other people I don’t want to. Speaks volumes for the type of people who build this app. Update: Bad accountability. Why do you delete the conversation when a person leaves? Spammers just leave and then there’s no way to report them. It’s getting quite tiring..Version: 3.13.0

Don’t pay for it, just delete itToo many bots, too many spam accounts. Not worth it. Literally only a handful of people in my city and no one in Canada uses it..Version: 4.0.0

Very badThis app just wants to take your money and that's it. Never use it and don't waste your precious time creating an account in this app.Version: 3.22.0

Location issueThis app doesn’t let you set the location so you get matches near you and profiles from hundreds of miles away are what keep popping up. Even if you’ve passed on a profile it will continue to come up and it shows you profiles down very far away. Pretty disappointing app.Version: 4.3.0

Trying to upgradeHi! I’m having a hard time trying to upgrade! I click on the continue button to upgrade but it just won’t upgrade and I can’t see any of my matches or interests 🥹.Version: 4.7.0

Angel marriageWhy is there an angel marriage happening for a CrossFitter Christian stoner yogi?.Version: 3.23.0

DistanceI think the app is a great idea and concept but it constantly gives me people over 100 miles away, I’m from canada, I put within 60 miles of me and I constantly get up to 350 miles away and usually only get above 90 miles. Please fix it.Version: 4.7.0

Pay to PlayUseless app. Free to create a profile, but they keep all your likes a secret unless you pay them. Greedy scam..Version: 3.17.0

DisappointingI used this app for years and have never had a date. It’s not that I’m not appealing, because I turn heads. It just happens that I have 50+ likes, rarely any matches when I swipe daily, and have to dig in my pocket to see what the like options are. And large chunk of the options I see and match with are 75+ miles away. Last time I paid to see likes, it was a bunch of tragically unattractive and overweight women miles and miles away. If I’m going to lower my standards, I don’t plan to drive 80 miles, too. If I set my preferences to 20-30 miles away, why am I constantly getting options triple or quadruple the distance away from my preferences? I do not want a long distance relationship. I have zero interest in being anybody’s pen pal. I see you in person or not at all. So, if I am see people miles and miles away, other people are, too. I am not willing to pay your membership and subscription just so I can see people who liked me that are so far away from me, I scratch my head as to how they even saw me. The distance preference needs to mean something. I do not want to see them and honestly they shouldn’t see me. If I’m going to pay to see who likes me, then I don’t want to see anyone outside of my range..Version: 4.4.0

Money focussed AppThis app is here just to make money, they don’t care about anything else. I have been on it for 2 years now and I only made a valid match ONE TIME only. Lots of fake accounts too.Version: 4.0.1

This ruins an otherwise great app.The desired distance slider does not function. If you select your distance and run out of profiles to see the app will ask once (and for all eternity) if you would like to see profiles outside of your desired distance. This could be a great feature for some users. However, there is no option to stop seeing these profiles once you have allowed it to look beyond your set distance. The desired distance selector becomes a nifty charm in your settings tab that does absolutely nothing in perpetuity. If a developer does reach out to reply, I would like this to be known I have read responses to reviews similar to mine (low starred for problems with distance) where a representative will explain that in an effort to continue to show you profiles it will “gradually” increase distance. I am aware and understand this. I am also aware the slider says something about showing profiles before your picks. This is not my issue. My issue is that I have no option but to see profiles 500 miles away no matter what it says on the slider. What I would recommend if I may is removing the distance setting altogether once you begin showing profiles beyond 60 miles (your highest available mileage below maximum distance)or allow users to revert back to only seeing profiles within their desired distance..Version: 4.0.0

VERY FRUSTRATING!I signed up for the most expensive elite level and they still limit the things we can do like only allowed 3 preferences in things we want from a person. STUPID. The worst is it’s SUPER easy to swipe away a person you really like when you are trying to scroll their photos. It’s happening to me all day today and there’s no way to go back. That’s idiots design flaw number 3 , I don’t have unlimited go backs even though I pay a lot of money. They block go backs for sale me stupid unknown reason. There’s also no place to go to ask questions or get answers to these kinds of common problems. I’m already tempted to go elsewhere. ALSO, you can’t search by location or anything else really. I’m just stuck scrolling through who they send me. I don’t date Catholics for example, and there’s no way to weed them out. I should be able to choose race , state , denomination or anything else and search by state if I wanted. So far this is a very weak app!! There’s a few interesting people. A lot seam like fake Christians but I guess that’s gonna be everywhere. I hope they listen to the complaints and improve. It’s not really worth the money so far. But I have to give it a full month before I decide to cancel..Version: 3.15.0

Ads, limits on views, pay to playDon't waste your time with this app. It's no better than any other typical dating app. You must pay to play which is not cheap. Spent 15 minutes using them deleted my profile and removed the app never to be installed again..Version: 4.3.0

Trash App, can’t even search by denominationAlso I have had 20+ likes for a month but no matter if I swiped right all night I NEVER get a match. I suspect the app is just lying and trying to scam me into buying a membership.Version: 3.20.0

Frustrating, shameI had my first account hacked and deleted. When I set up a new account and went to pay to payed subscription it wouldn’t upgrade and when I contacted them they said my account is deleted..Version: 4.8.0

Needs User VerificationI really want to love this app as the interface is really good and I’ve had some decent conversations with some girls on it. But this app REALLY needs some sort of user verification. The last match I got seemed really great at first. I gave her my number so we could talk easier. We seemed to have a lot in common and our conversation was really nice and everything seemed normal; at least, it did at first. All of a sudden, she sent me a completely unsolicited inappropriate photo of herself and later on, I got a phone call from her number, but it was a male voice on the other end of the call and he claimed he was her father and that his daughter is only 16 years old and that he was going to the police and would file criminal charges against me for child porn and solicitation of a minor. I now know it was a scam and the girl I thought I was talking to probably never existed and this person was just trying to scare me into sending money to avoid getting into some serious trouble. This really freaked me out, but luckily I just blocked the number and nothing more came from this horrible situation. But this was still an absolutely terrible situation and there really should be some sort of user verification to avoid this sort of thing. Please just fix this problem before someone really gets hurt and this app would be sooo much better..Version: 3.4.1

Some serious issuesOk, my rating isn’t based on this but it should be noted, it glitched A LOT. I didn’t base my rating on this because it could 100% be my phone and not the apps fault, but it should be noted. My three biggest issues with the app are that 1) there is no way to set a distance. I’m only being shown men that are 150+ miles away from me, I’m never going to meet these people. I’d like to meet single likeminded people in my area, not really across the state. 2) there are a lot of people on here that treat it like tinder. I mean the amount of guys that seemed great through chat that ended up snapping me at 10am with unprompted *ahem* pictures, was astonishing. A lot of people are open that they aren’t Christian (but then why are they on a Christian dating app???). It would be nice if there was a way to select denomination preferences so that we could avoid that situation... 3) no one is ever on here and they frequently just recycle through the same people. I unmatched with someone and they popped up in like 3 seconds on swipe. Also there are a lot of guys who fish and hunt and it’s just annoying. That’s nothing on the app itself, just the people lack diversity..Version: 2.1.3

Disappointed 👎🏽So I gave this app a try for a year after seeing it advertised on Snapchat. As a Christian and someone who has been in the online dating business for awhile, I was excited trying Upward as it was advertised as “A Christian Dating Website.” Well not only I met my toxic ex on here and wasted 8 months of my life thinking he was the one turns out he had a dark past and an addiction, I also wasted more time coming back on here for another few months getting my time wasted by “Christian Men” who only wanted to have sex with me, don’t reply back, and just take advantage of me because they know I’m a good woman. Upward, what I have experienced as a user this whole year is not Christian like and you guys should consider doing background checks, verify the user is who they say they are, and should NOT have a casual selection as that is very hypocritical and is against Christian beliefs. I don’t even want to start on how my matches are too far out from me and I have gave you guys money after money and remained loyal the whole year thinking I was going to find someone. I even had been a loyal customer to the point I trusted you guy to the point when I deleted my account a few times I came back, never again this app is garbage and has been thrown together last minute I bet like las minute studying for a finals, yuck 🤢.Version: 3.6.0

NOT SAFEI kept seeing the Upward advertisement on Instagram and was intrigued at the fact that it was Christian based. Once I decided to go ahead and give the app a try, I was extremely excited!I had been in chat rooms when I was like in high school, but I’ve never done a dating app or dating site. So I was looking forward to trying something different and new and upward seemed pretty popular on Instagram. I don’t know what the screening process is for this sites security but I was immediately catfished by the 2nd or 3rd person I spoke to. I’m typically very cautious but he was extremely convincing, I also trusted the app because of its “Christian” focus. But that meant nothing, they are all kinds of people on the app, and just because they joined a Christian dating app doesn’t mean they are. There’s this random stranger somewhere who knows my name and has my photo, they lied and I have absolutely no idea who I was talking to for weeks. I felt stupid, I felt violated, and at the thought of this person possibly having my info, I felt really afraid and have lost sleep over this. So I will suggest to any single seeking, stick to the legitimate dating apps with a more rigorous sign up process, but better security. These rinky-dink Instagram advertisement dating apps are honestly not worth the trouble. And to go with the legitimate dating websites that have credible reviews, the monthly fee is worth your peace of mind I promise!.Version: 3.15.0
