Chess Sudoku for Positive User Reviews

IPad AppPreviously left a 4 star review due to no Landscape mode on IPad up, and it appears that has been updated along with addition of Queen Sudoku. A+ guys, thanks!.Version: 1.2

Awesome game but Queen Sudoku needs work.Enjoying both king and knight sudoku, top rating for that, but the first puzzle on Queen puzzle has an error as the game right answer for some entries in puzzle 1 are not correct. Haven’t moved on as there may be more...Version: 1.3

Super fun puzzlesCracking the cryptic have done something great here. They deserve all the support for what they’ve accomplished. Keep it up guys!.Version: 1.0

Fun!I have finally finished all the puzzles! This kept me entertained for many hours of breaks at work. The signature double pencil markings and colouring features are very useful. I will definitely be buying the other apps. This is now the gold standard of sudoku apps!.Version: 1.3

More puzzles?I love this app!! The chess move limitations add such interesting new patterns and techniques. However, I’ve finished all the knight move puzzles multiple times and am getting bored of them! I’d love to see another update with more puzzles..Version: 1.6

I enjoy this immenselyIf you’re a fan of sudoku mixed with other logical constraints, this app will given you many tens of hours of fun..Version: 1.1

Awesome puzzles!Another great set of puzzles from Cracking the Cryptic! Great interface with nice customization settings, and hand-crafted hints that allow you to solve the puzzles organically even when you're stuck..Version: 1.0

BrilliantBrilliantly set up app, much control to set how much you wish to be highlighted making it functional for experts and beginners alike. Great accompaniment to my sandwich app 🤗🤩 ps, looking forward to the queen variant.Version: 1.0

Awesome!Your apps and YT channel are very impressive. You have given a life and beauty to these puzzles I hadn’t experienced previously. Please consider consolidating the apps into one and offer IAP for the different modes, even if I have to pay again for the current three. Well worth not having three (and growing?) apps on my devices for essentially the same thing, and it’d probably be easier for you to maintain. Corner note alignment could perhaps be improved, as it’s hard to get a read on them when they scatter with a different number of notes in each cell of a block’s row/column. Could the apps remember what puzzle I opened last and center the puzzle list on it so I don’t have to scroll way down every time? Thanks so much for these! Stay healthy..Version: 1.0

Cracking the cryptic Rocks!I love all of their apps. Thanks for getting me back into sudoku and turning me on to chess sudoku. Please do a thermo sudoku soon!.Version: 1.0

Phenomenal AppGreat interface, far better than free sudoku apps. And the hand set puzzles are quite nice. Really like the chess constraint as well. These would definitely be over my head if I hadn’t watched your channel a few times, but probably not too many beginners would pay 5 dollars for an app..Version: 1.1

AwesomeExcellent app! Love the YouTube channel as well. Thank you..Version: 1.1

Great Software and Top Notch ChallengeAfter discovering CTC from YouTube, its safe to say I knew this app would be worth the price. The mechanics of center and corner notes, coloring, and multiple cell selection makes playing these intricate puzzles so much smoother. Not to brag but the easy puzzles were a breeze, as they should be. The hard ones definitely stumped me multiple times. Some I broke free after a couple hours but others I needed to use the hints which are very helpful. I recommend watching their videos if hesitant on the purchase, but be warned you will be a sudokuholic after!.Version: 1.3

Absolutely Awesome StuffIt’s completely amazing how quickly I found myself picking up the concept. After years of being practically addicted to Sudoku, solving puzzles in my dreams and on every app I could find while awake but I never imagined Sudoku could be this fun! Only the second game I’ve ever spent money on and 100% worth it to support a truly amazing duo. I’m so close to finishing all the puzzles, I’m scared to open the app, I don’t know what I’ll do when I run out of puzzles to solve haha. Can’t wait for more updates, thank you Simon and Mark for this easy to navigate, riveting app that has me waking up in excitement at the prospect of my morning coffee and Knights Sudoku, 100% satisfied customer :).Version: 1.3

WorthI got this app despite seeing lots of free sudoku apps on the App Store because I’m a fan of the Cracking the Cryptic team and wanted to support them, but in fact I believe it’s more well-designed than any other. I love it.Version: 1.0

Great appHours of clever puzzles in front of you!.Version: 1.0

Knights version is my fave of all your appsI have all of your apps and love them! Thank you Mark and Simon!.Version: 1.2

Love the app but....The queen sudoku has errors forcing you to break the queen restraint..Version: 1.2

Great, but poor button optimizationCracking the Cryptic are one of the premiere puzzlers and these puzzles meet expectations. My one complaint is that button placement and size is not optimized based on how frequently you use them. The number buttons are the smallest and the farthest from the puzzle, meanwhile, buttons like delete are large and right next to the puzzle..Version: 1.0

Amazing!Having done all the puzzles on the Classic Sudoku app, this was my next stop. The chess constraints make these even more fun, and I love how each variation (there are 3) forces you to think slightly differently. I actually found it very frustrating returning to normal sudoku, having loved these so much. The app itself is great, it’s intuitive design (highlighting, double notation) make the logic clearer. This means the process of solving these puzzles feels more natural and seamless than on any other app (or on paper). You can tell the creators know their stuff. The clues too are much better than those on other apps, which tend to just give you a number and let you continue. Here, the next stage of the solution is carefully deconstructed, and if you only want to know where to look, it’s easy to stop reading before too much is revealed. Even when you’re being told the answer, you still get the thrill of solving these wonderful puzzles!.Version: 1.3

Great PuzzlesCracking the Cryptic does it again!.Version: 1.0

Amazing!Love all the CTC apps so far, and I’m enjoying the different types of puzzles they offer as well as the amazingly constructed puzzles in each..Version: 1.5

Chess soduku make less sense, queen moves especiallyI am a chess player so I expected chess soduku to make sense. Queen move ones though clearly have some additional rule. It says no duplicates on the diagonals, but it’s only some diagonals and not the others. For instance in puzzle 2, the 1s x out all the spots in row 5. In puzzle 1, it starts with two fours across the long upper left to lower right diagonal. Huh?!.Version: 1.6

Great AppThis is a fantastic app. The puzzles are good, and train you to work your way up to the hardest ones. The variants add a tremendous amount of fun. There are three different types of puzzles, queen restriction, knight restriction, and king restriction. The solving interface is also fantastic. I highly recommend it, and I look forward to trying CTC’s other apps..Version: 1.3

Absolutely awesomeI completely love this app - it’s got a great look and feel, but much more importantly the puzzles seem excellent; tough but interesting, and really fun. But then I loved the Sandwich and Classic Sudoku apps too. The hints are really great if you need them..Version: 1.0

Bigger number buttons pleaseLove Cracking The Cryptic. Watch the channel daily and have other apps. Enjoy Chess Sudoko App BUT one issue. The most important buttons are the number buttons, and they are smallest and hardest to use. Please can you consider the CX; increasing their size and reducing the large buttons for less frequently used functions. I have an iPhone 13, reasonably large screen but keep hitting the wrong number. Thanks.Version: 1.6

Great puzzles & hintsReally nice puzzles! the hints especially are very helpful in teaching — I do feel like I’m getting better over time/learning the tricks!.Version: 1.1

A must buy!I would highly recommend this app for anyone who has ever liked sudoku. Personally I was very into sudoku many years ago but admittedly got a tad bit bored of it. These puzzles offer a very fresh and interesting twist on classic sudoku puzzles that has rekindled my interest in sudoku..Version: 1.3

Queen?Love the app, but the first Queen puzzle seems to be just plain old sudoku.Version: 1.2

Comment on hintsI tried Queen sudoku today and for games 2 and 3 Queen rules do not seem to be followed in the final solution..Version: 1.2

Great Puzzles, Great TeamI’ve loved their YouTube channel, and their puzzles, and these don’t disappoint. A few minor UI issues with the app, but they mostly don’t impact gameplay. It can sometimes be hard to read the settings/menus with transparent backgrounds, and the lack of a header to whatever menu you’re on can leave you a little lost in navigation. Other than that, thank you!.Version: 1.0

Mind bending puzzles with some fun logic!Knight and King sudoku offer new and interesting logic to the classic puzzle. Regardless if you are a beginner or have been doing puzzles for years, these puzzles will keep you entertained for hours. I can’t wait to see what else they release! Let’s get cracking!.Version: 1.1

Pretty nice.My critiques would be; The number buttons are too small. It is awful when it enters the wrong digit and shows red, feels bad. My phone certainly isn’t the smallest supported model even. Could easily double the size of them by using staggered rows. The entry modes weren’t really clear, and switching from notes to enter is awkward Can’t select non adjacent cells easily for pencil notes. (Without at least three other taps to select separate cells and then return to normal mode) The few hints used were pretty spot on. Generally helped me find where I forgot to clean a note that would have shown that I had the next step set up. That or naked cells sometimes can be tricky. It can be awkward to refer to a hint and the board at once. I think the hint text should probably overlay just the controls so you can see your board still (bonus points for some sort of indicators for the relevant hint cells). Honestly my biggest other wish was if all these variants were just IAP of a single app. I would pay the same, but they don’t seem that different that a single app couldn’t reasonably do it all..Version: 1.0

Wonderful app, but buttons are strangely placedI’ve never been a huge sudoku fan on a basic premise, as they all just felt basic. After watching the Cracking the Cryptic YouTube channel, I got this app. This app, as well as their channel, took a twist that is new to me. The app is very well done, the puzzles varying in difficulty. Only issue I’ve found is the number buttons being kinda small. They’re harder to hit than most other buttons. Otherwise it’s pretty well optimized.Version: 1.0

Check out their YouTube channel!Love the game(s). If you haven’t, check out their YouTube channel. Thanks Simon and Mark.Version: 1.1

Excellent appI'm not a huge sudoku fan as I find them quite tedious, and I've probably only done easy sudokus in newspapers. However, I got inspired to try out this app after watching the YouTube channel. To my surprise, I tried and successfully completed all the sudokus in the King mode without too much difficultly. Most of them took under and hour to do and I used exactly zero hints in the whole run. That is to say, I did not find the process of solving them tedious at all. I went back to the YouTube videos and tried a solve along sudoku in the description section. Again, I found it tedious and boring to solve. That really tells me about the quality of the app, whose pencil number highlighting especially made it so much easier for me to find patterns in the sudokus that the puzzle solving process went from being tedious to being enjoyable. To my mind, that makes this app a showcase of how technology can augment and bring out the best of human intelligence. Great job by the team, and now it's time for me to solve the knight sudokus!.Version: 1.1

Solid appAbsolutely brilliant, takes sudoku to a whole new level.Version: 1.2

PerfectThis app works so well, it is really smooth compare to other sudoku apps. I really like it. The variant chess sudoku is my favorite. The only thing I wish was different is the corner notation for the 5 cause they go to the middle which can be confusing, but this is really nitpicking. Great app!!.Version: 1.2

I want more!When can we expect new puzzles?.Version: 1.1

Amazing App (and Amazing Channel)This app is amazing. The rules are interesting. The puzzles are engaging. The creators are awesome. I’ve got hours of fun out of this, and for $5, it’s easily worth it. If I had any feedback, it would be that I’d love more puzzles in the current categories, especially more difficult ones. I love the challenge of the most difficult puzzles of the app, but crave more. (though to be fair I have yet to finish the Queen Puzzles, so perhaps I shouldn’t complain)..Version: 1.2

A stellar third entry!Bravo on this app, the sets of puzzles are phenomenal and I’m having a ton of fun solving them! With more on the horizon I could not be more excited to keep solving..Version: 1.0

All ready pretty good, can be even betterThe 5's are the same for both notations making it kinda awkward. Selecting specific tiles can be awkward when you can only select tiles that are connected. A possible fix would be a way to highlight and lift your finger. A possible toggle mechanism maybe. Notation is not beginner friendly at all, perhaps a little section that explains different notation use. Overall I only have very minor critiques. Great App..Version: 1.1

Andy‘Routine is the killer’. That’s what it says on the wall in my CrossFit gym. The Chess Sudoku has definitely killed my routine of classic Sudoku and just doing a handful of these has improved my Classic Sudoku performance. I really appreciated the handwritten tips on the puzzles I struggled with. It would be great to get the tips to display on the screen above the grid on the iPhone app so you can more easily follow the tip and edit the sudoku at the same time. The interface is really good just like the Classic and Sandwich apps. Looking forward to an app that matches the Cracking the Cryptic videos so we can save unfinished puzzles..Version: 1.0
