Xbox Family Settings for Negative User Reviews

Too slow to make it usefulIt is a step up from the website but that isn’t saying much. It is slow even on a fast connection..Version: 2022.11.2

Screen time control done the Microsoft way……which means you have to create accounts for everyone (thus locking them into the MS ecosystem nice and early), to even be able to access the app! You want to implement just a basic “lock the console after 1hr” restriction? Sure. Just create a full blown Microsoft account for your underage son or daughter real quick and you’re good to go. I even opened a support ticket to ask them if I could set my wife as an organiser so her account could be setting restrictions on my account (which is the one my kids use to play) and they said nope that’s not possible either (because the console owner account has organiser rights by default. Good luck to you I guess if you’re wanting to put limits for yourself to, for example, manage an overly active gaming habit). Anyway… back to a timer on my phone I guess it is for me. Maybe when my kids are older I’ll use this, but in the meantime thanks for nothing Microsoft. Really wish you’d look at how Nintendo does this stuff. A company that *means* family when it says family..Version: 1.9

Stuck on sign inI’ve gone round in circles trying to sign in to this app. All I want to do is change the settings for my daughter’s Minecraft. There are a dozen ways this could potentially be managed, however Microsoft only allows this action via use of the app. It could be good in theory but the hoops to jump through are ridiculous and in my case, non-functioning..Version: 20220429.220517.6

Rarely worksWhen I try authorising things thru this App, it usually does not work. Then I have to do it directly on the Xbox. Microsoft: please make it work or remove it altogether..Version: 2023.08.31

Should be combined with Microsoft Family SafetyI now have two separate apps - Microsoft Family Safety and Xbox Family Settings - that I can use to manage my kids’ access to their devices. I can set app-specific limits in the former, but not the latter. Other settings are available in the latter but not the former. Why have these not been consolidated into a single app that can do everything?.Version: 1.0

Concept is great, meh on executionBeing able to monitor my kids and take and extend time from them is great but doing so does not work in real time taking sometimes hours for the app to update on time used or for my approved request from my kids to take effect. Hopfully just bugs that will be worked out over time. But overall content with the app.Version: 2022.11.2

FlakyThe time limit start and end settings are just plain awkward , and often don’t work , click save but app ignores the change. If this were a backyard developer I would give 3 stars but from MS I expect more.Version: 20220429.220517.6

App does not workEvery time I open app and click on family member it just crashes. Expect so much more from a Microsoft app. I am trying to run this on latest iOS and iPhone 12. Please fix.Version: 1.2.1

Slow! The speed of this app is terrible. Come on guys! You build a global compute and networking platform in the cloud and the performance of this app takes almost a minute to add time to kids accounts!!.Version: 2024.1.30

Bypass the time limitMy kid found a way to bypass the time limit. He played for hours passed the 2 hours I had allowed him begore I realized. Also some games are not supported as you can play without being signed in..Version: 1.8

Laggy and unreliableVery slow to update and fails multiple times when trying to add time - happens for both myself and my wife and irrespective of network or WiFi speed.Version: 2023.12.14

Was great until…..Disappointing you have removed the pause feature for the screen time. It was a fantastic feature for me to use when my kids aren’t listening or need to go to bed. I’m sure lots of parents will be missing this fantastic feature..Version: 20220204.220204.1

Just doesn’t workI thought this would be very useful to control the amount of time that my son spends playing his Xbox. What I have found from experience is that it doesn’t stop him at all. Even when time is restricted and the app very clearly shows that “no time is allowed today“ he is able to pick up his Xbox and start playing with no difficulty. I haven’t found out how he’s doing it yet but however he is getting around these rules he finds it very very easy. The one star review is cemented by the fact that when my son asks permission (this element does work) to purchase something via his Xbox, I can’t give him permission nor can I give him the right amount of money but I have to give him money in multiples of £10. In some cases he wants to top up for something that costs as little as 79p but I have to load £10 onto his account which is then able to spend ad hoc..Version: 1.8

Ugh…So painful to use. The granularity of the settings is abysmal, although that is partially the fault of the games that I’m trying to setup. Being that they are also Microsoft offerings, the family app is taking the hit for this one. I basically have the choice of “can’t access anything” mode, or “here you go predators!” mode on Minecraft. Zero ability to limit it to a Realm controlled by me… nope. It’s either “no multiplayer for you!” or “ALL THE SERVERS! GO! GO!” Two stars because at least there are controls? 🤷‍♂️.Version: 2024.2.12

No sound notificationOverall, it is a great and convenient app. However, it does not have a sound notification. Which leads me to incessantly get text messages from my 13-year-old asking for more screen time. And let me tell you, he sends a text often times right as he has requested the time. And those happen to be the times that I see the banner notification. Ugh. Again, convenient but needs a sound notification..Version: 1.5

TrashI love it when I get a new Xbox and randomly my restrictions from when I was 14 come into play and I cant play past 12 even though I’m 18. My dad doesn’t have access to the email anymore either so now I can’t play Xbox at all and there’s nothing I can do about it. Great system xbox( this is why everyone is switching to ps5 and pc).Version: 1.2.1

Why!!!Why does Microsoft, one of the biggest soft and hardware developers in the world have to have so many badly managed apps to control a console. Designs it from the ground up, make it user friendly and consolidate it in one app and not a little bit here and there. Poor Managment and control of the products being put out the - maybe it’s time to switch to Sony!.Version: 1.1

NI don’t want to take a course on how to use your app.Version: 2023.11.16

Slow to load upSlow to load up.Version: 2023.12.14

Simply doesn’t workAt 1736 on a Tuesday my son was still playing whilst the app is set to log him out at 1730. The app reported BOTH that he had been playing for 1 hour 36 minutes; and that his allotted time was 1 hour 30 minutes. I have lost hours of my life trying to get this thing to work over the last year and it is literally the thing which causes the most stress in our otherwise happy family. Microsoft should be held to account for this sheer negligence and the effect it is having in young lives and mental health. Of course it isn’t in their interest to log young people off their consoles - the longer they are logged in the more they can spend. Utterly utterly shameful of Microsoft..Version: 20220429.220517.6

Where are the privacy settings?I have looked everywhere and searched for privacy settings and they are no where to be found. What if I didn’t want someone looking at my account recent played game history.Version: 2022.11.2

Possibly the worst app for monterization and websiteThe app is SCUFFED. You can barely do anything you need to do, you can’t monetize content barely for a child, they released a new feature for educational monitoring but it’s for WINDOWS MICROSOFT EDGE AND NOT THE XBOX (Which you can only see this feature on the website). which is the one that is highly needed, somehow my settings get reset, can’t chat with friends in game chat, etc. then removing screen time takes forever and the adding time is so horrible, you add time yet it barely registers to the Xbox, that’s also the main issue nothing REGISTERS. I suggest add features to block apps, since kids are allowed to get on Microsoft edge and you cant remove it nor block it..Version: 2023.12.14

Pretty goodThe app is pretty good. The whole child content restriction system for Microsoft/Xbox is a little clunky and difficult to navigate, but once you have it setup, the app is decently simple. I have only two complaints (both of which have more to do with the overall system than the app itself): 1. There doesn’t seem to be a way to turn off email notifications for more screen time requests. I’ve searched and it looks like there use to be a way, but not anymore. I’d like to get notifications through the app only and not to my email. 2. There isn’t a way to pause, reduce, or remove screen time that’s given manually, i.e, not scheduled - I think Microsoft calls this type of time “exceptions”. You can only pause, reduce, or remove scheduled time. I’d like to be able to do that for manually given time..Version: 2023.11.16

Time range doesn’t workRanges can’t be saved. It defaults back to 10am to 11pm irrespective of what I input. Frustrating..Version: 2024.2.12

Needs ImprovementsThe passcode for the app should be different than the iPhone passcode. You should also be able to pause time for users at any time, but right now you can’t pause time if you have extra time….Version: 2023.11.16

SlowEverything about the app is slow. Can’t add any payments less than £10, just a painful experience. Shame as it has some good family features in there….Version: 2024.2.12

Needs workApp is so damm slow at loading. It’s painfull.Version: 2022.11.2

Wont send invite!!So the idea is good, but the app is ( trying not to swear) terrible!! Wont send invite to MY OTHER ACCOUNT ,that my son uses.. tried email.. tried phone number and still no joy… So really what is the point?.Version: 2024.1.30

TerribleI literally can’t change any settings or do anything but look at who is in my Family or add new Family members. Thanks Xbox, I needed another app on my home screen!.Version: 2022.11.2

ConfusedI am not receiving an invitation to join the fans group. I don’t know why and I tried asking around and looking it up. I tried with email and with gmail. Can you please fix this? Thank you and have a great day..Version: 20220429.220517.6

Sub standardSlow, isn’t accurate, can’t pause time after granting ‘all day’ access. Good app concept but very poor implementation..Version: 20220429.220517.6

Reduced functionalityThe app used to have the function to simply block the Xbox use. Now you have to go into each individual day to block those. If there is still the ability to block the Xbox entirely then it’s not obvious and easy to use as it was before. Please return the functionality for users to quickly block all Xbox use..Version: 2023.12.14

Out of syncApp does not process when I ‘allow’ items and then continually asked me to add money after I just added. Has a lot of potential though.Version: 1.8

“Family” w/o Parental Controls?!I would give this a zero stars if I could. 1. Unable to completely block or delete the Edge web browser in this app, nor on the Xbox. True family parental controls would allow you to block ANY app. We want an Xbox for gaming, not web browsing. Why don’t we have this option Microsoft? 2. By default the Xbox allows you to create new users, so even if you create a managed user account for your child, the child can easily create another (unmanaged) account. This app does not explain this so gives a false sense of security to parents. TIP: In both cases, you have to make changes to the Xbox itself to avoid these pitfalls. While you cannot block web browsing, you can limit/filter content..Version: 2022.11.2

BadSetting are clumsy and terrible to navigate. If for some reason a game is filtered on the Xbox by the settings it won’t tell you what filter is holding back the settings it tells you just what general area of the app it is in, like go to “privacy and online settings to allow” but without telling you which privacy setting is the issue. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me. Not everything is manageable from the app either.. a lot of it needs to be brought up from a browser which defeats the purpose. Now I’m not tech genius but I do have a degree in computer networking and I still struggled with this app at times. It should honestly be a really simple process and able to filter content by game; like if I want to let my kids play among us but not GTA, a pop up on the phone app when the game is attempted to be opened on the Xbox saying: “grant all permissions, custom permissions or deny for (insert game)” would make this 1000 times easier. Will update rating when app is better but knowing Microsoft menus… I don’t think that’s going to happen..Version: 20220204.220204.1

Does not even load on iOS12As the title says, won’t even load, just closes/crashes every time you try to open it. Hopeless.Version: 2023.12.6

A very angry andiaI absolutely hate this trash app I just want to play minecraft with my friend and because she made her Microsoft account at the age of TEN we have to go through all this trouble so we can play multiplayer minecraft Java edition. Microsoft, fix your trash app and stop making this so confusing MINECRAFT IS RATED E FOR EVERYONE WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE LIKE THIS!!.Version: 1.2.1

Not workingOnce you add a member you can’t change name , you can’t delete a member and doesn’t synchronise with Xbox one profiles, waste a time.Version: 1.1

Sluggish and slowNotifications come through promptly but app loads slowly and is unable to refresh in a timely manner. There’s always a delay while app tries to determine screen time for the child account. I find myself opening safari on my phone and going to my Microsoft account via the web quicker than waiting for the app to load and allow me to approve screen time requests. Come on Microsoft, optimise the app so that it’s as quick as using the web version. In case you’re wondering, I’m using the app on an iPhone 13..Version: 2022.11.2

It used to work….I would give it a 5 star BUT it was updated and now it doesn’t work! This app was great for setting screen time and controlling when kids were on the Xbox. Very handy for during school. Now it doesn’t set the time you tell it to, it sets times that are not even available! Nice job Microsoft 🙄.Version: 20220204.220204.1

MehIt’s okay, but the quick options from the Notification Centre don’t work, and it doesn’t work with iOS shortcuts app to allow quick additions of time for family members through Siri..Version: 2023.08.31

Not workingUseless app. Once downloaded it explains everything this app has to offer but that is where it ends. Can not connect to the Xbox to control it and keeps taking me back to the sign in page instead of taking me to settings to actually start using the app. Waste of time..Version: 1.8

AwfulThe money I add for my sons account through the Xbox Family app never shows up in my child’s Xbox account. It shows the money is there in the app, but not when he goes to spend it. So it’s a waste bc the money is non-refundable. I’ve tried to update the app as was suggested, and it just does not seem to work with iOS. Waste of money. Otherwise, the monitoring system is actually pretty good but be careful when attempting to add funds. I suggest trying a very small amount first to see if you can even get it to sync..Version: 2022.11.2

Not instant, so uselessIt isn’t instant, so it useless. I can add time on the Xbox, which is instant, but this is not reflected on the app. Then if I add time on the app, it doesn’t work until it wants to. Don’t rely on this app.Version: 1.1

MixedWe had such difficulty setting this up, then it worked and was great for two days... then randomly it works and doesn't work (mostly doesn't)... the screen times just don't kick in. It could be a great thing (much needed in so many families), but it just doesnt work consistently enough. Given all the money we hand over to these companies and the effects screens can have on kids, I think they owe it to families to get this right..Version: 1.2.1

I don’t think I have any other app that crashes this much.Title says it all. Extremely frustrating to use..Version: 2023.08.31

Privacy settingsI was just trying to change privacy settings on another device since I do not own a Xbox and i want to do online play so it recommend this app and it did not show me what I looking for and every time I go to the Microsoft page and click privacy and online settings it brings me to support and it only talks about changing the settings on Xbox and nothing about a Microsoft account on the Nintendo switch..Version: 1.2.1

Half-broken UX NightmareHey, want to add a child to your family account? Sorry, we’re going to force you to create an entire separate account with a separate email address before you can even start! So, your child now has a garbage MS email address that spammers and scammers can send emails to. And, wait, that’s not all! Then, we’re going to bury half of the settings in a maze and require logging in over and over again until you want to pull your hair out. Want to redeem a gif card or Robux card? Maybe you can do it, maybe you can’t. Ask help and get no answers! I’ve been a long-time 15+ year Xbox user, but this makes me want to defect..Version: 1.8

Poor time keepingMultiple games seem to circumvent the fixed time limits, making them pointless!.Version: 2023.08.11

UnreliableSo I have a few problems with this app. First is the limiter. There is barley a warning when it kicks you off, and it doesn't even my kids a chance to save. It also counts everything as time, when they are on the title screen, in a game, or even if the system is simply turned on. Second is the whole adding time thing. I am constantly bugged about it, and when you add time it is the amount of time from the moment you add it, so if you add an hour, an hour later they get kicked off. I just wish that you had an option to tell them to get off, instead of forcing them off. You should also be able to make it so the limiter only counts when they are in a game. Overall, it’s ok..Version: 1.4.1

It’s slowDon’t know why but the app is slow and it takes a while to process notifications. Makes for a frustrating experience..Version: 2022.11.2

Used to be amazing but latest version has bugsUsed to work perfectly, now I have to give my son time about 3-4 time because it keeps defaulting to “blocked” until I have done it several times. Started happening about 6 weeks ago. Bad update. Need to opportunity to withdraw time already granted as well please..Version: 1.6

Good but...I like the fact that I can control the setting for my kids account but it would be really handy to be able to login from the app. So if I’m in another part of the house I can log into my kids account remotely..Version: 1.0

Time tracking issuesI’ve used this app for a couple years and it’s been great. It helps me make sure that my son doesn’t play all afternoon and it gives me confidence that he can play online safely. However, recently, it’s had trouble tracking his online time. It’s been missing time more and more frequently, sometimes off by half an hour to an hour! For example, I set my son’s time for 2 hours today, and he’s been on for 2 hours, but the app says he’s only been playing for just over an hour. Please help!!!.Version: 1.9

Impossible to manage kids usageThis App is awful and I think Xbox are banking on parents being unable to restrict kids spending in order to increase their business. It is impossible to set up family usage, you cannot approve spending and you spend the entire time adding passwords repeatedly, completely unnecessarily..Version: 1.6

Good idea terrible appThe app is slow to respond and so much difficulty loading anything. Great idea but needs to be sped up a little and have a faster loading and response time..Version: 20220429.220517.6

It’s Microsoft soIt kind off works but it’s unnecessarily confusing to set up, often doesn’t work as expected and is buggier than box of ants. I honestly expected nothing less.Version: 20220429.220517.6

Very confusingVery confusing management of accounts and different family profiles. Really bad! Forces you to create Microsoft account to every single family member and needs to go in circles 100 times to set it up. Worst app ever!!.Version: 1.2.1

Slow and mostly doesn’t workScreen time for PC - Pause and Revoke time have no effect - my son can continue to use the PC. Time used doesn’t show time actually used. Buttons such as Extend time and Pause take a few seconds to become enabled. Changes to the screen time schedule made via the web take a long time to be reflected in the app..Version: 2024.1.30

Great concept - latest version has too many bugsThe latest version seems to have massive issues with updating the back end. There is massive lag between adding screen time or making a change and it actually being applied. These also seem to be synchronous as if you move away from the page before it confirms the change never applies..Version: 1.6

TerribleThis app lets me do nothing other than add accounts and thats it. I cant manage anything it wont me open the accounts i have added..Version: 1.1

Make this more user friendlyThis is much better than the Family Safety App (a nightmare). But I think you must have both apps if you want to manage your kids screen time. Clunky and counterintuitive. Adding screen time should be easy. It’s not. You can only add time in specific blocks. For Instance: If you want 1 hour and 15 minutes for your kid you have to select either 1 hour OR 15 minutes...then wait for your kid to shout from the basement “I thought you said 1 hour 15 minutes! My time just ended!” THEN you can add the rest of the time. Once you select a time you’re bound to it. It’s a pain and silly. This is one example of the sloppy design..Version: 1.1

Sh#tNo good piece of sh#t app.don’t use it or install it.What it did is my son was trying to add his friend on Xbox from school.and it wouldn’t let him at all where it said try again later. So I tried to contact Microsoft and they said they don’t how to fix it..Version: 1.1

Worked before, now doesn’tWas able to set restrictions on this for my 10 year old. Gone into app today to give him extra time as a reward and keep getting the screen to login which I did but then get it again. The app logs me in because can see it underneath the login screen but will not let me access it properly, not impressed now, clearly needs fixing.Version: 1.3

Xbox screen timeCannot get the Xbox to update sons screen time even though it is showing as saved on Family app..Version: 2022.11.2

TerribleTerrible settings access, garbage settings, so much for nothing, PS is way better suggest PlayStation over this garbage.Version: 1.9

It’s honestly so stupid. You literally made this app for nothing. So confusing and i hate it with ALL OF ME..Version: 1.1

Very difficult to usI find this app very difficult to use specifically when trying to purchase games from Microsoft and to add onto my sons account.Version: 1.5

Not very robust. Now three apps to accomplish what a single web page did. Typical Microsoft!.Version: 1.1

StupidThis could have just been a link on the website, but oh look another invasive app instead..Version: 1.1

Does the job… sometimes. The app is an important part of the Xbox package. It is however, a woeful experience. It’s extraordinarily sluggish and slow (no, I’m not in low power mode). The experience is no smoother on a local network to when away. Settings take seemingly forever to load (if at all) and when options are changed you must wait around until the magical “saved” notice is given if it is. I’ve used this on an iPhone 7 and 2020 se. OS is up to date and have tried reinstalling. I’d not recommend, except there is no other option other than on the console itself. Let’s hope that MS sort it..Version: 1.8

What’s wrong with the website?Website used to be fine and now I’m forced to download a c$$p app that doesn’t work. Can’t manage subscriptions. Can’t find anything. Way to screw it all up. Just allow me access to the website again….Version: 1.6

Why does my child need an email? The purpose of me downloading the app was in order to have parental controls, once I downloaded the app I discovered that Microsoft have over complicated matters by creating the need for the child to have an email defeating the object of the parental controls in the first place..Version: 20220429.220517.6

GlitchesDoesn’t always sync with machines, time delays. Dreadful experience. Could be amazing but the bugs and glitches prevent it from being an excellent app..Version: 2022.11.2

Problème de temps d’écranLe temps d’écran bloqué à 1h30 s’enlève tout seul..Version: 2022.11.2

Annoying lack of functionalityTrying to approve a purchase for child using credit on their account. Child appears to have ordered game twice but no options in account to cancel one order. Both orders showing as ‘Pending’ but unable to see how to cancel one of them. App and X-Box account options and functionality do not offer the option to do either. Another hour wasted trying to navigate this very annoying system. Nothing purchased..Version: 2023.05.2

Won’t Send InvitationsAfter loading for a ridiculous amount of time, it finally said it couldn’t send the invitation and to try again. I tried again and it displayed the same screen. I thought it might’ve been my wifi, so I disconnected and used 5G instead. Same thing. Trying to find troubleshoot problems to help me with the issue didn’t help either..Version: 2023.08.11

Garbage appAll this app does is keep having me sign in over and over. What a joke!!!.Version: 1.0

Consistently terribleAwful, slow app with terrible interface..Version: 2023.08.31

Useless!!All I want to know is what’s the point of family safety and screen time if my child doesn’t sign into his Xbox account, it works on computer but on Xbox he can watch or play on it still! That makes no sense at all! Y'all don’t know that this can happen! I go through all the settings and adding a schedule and come to find out he can still use his Xbox without signing into his account! He learned that by mistake! I’m totally taken by this! Like I said USELESS! I may as well take all the efforts I put into this app and delete it! Make parents look crazy! Either find a way to stop this, make them sign in to use or your app is ,,,,,,USELESS! Did I mention, USELESS!!!!!!!!!.Version: 2023.11.16

This app is very uselessThis app is useless I have a Xbox One and a PS4 and the PS4 is way simpler all I have to do is lock a game in the settings but Xbox has all this useless stuff like time because I can just go set a timer in IRL and done and I can’t save and then it kicks me out and it counts anything you do like stay on the Home Screen it just bad and I saw somebody say it keeps gta v ads away from there child unlike PlayStation I’m sorry were do you get ads from? But anyway this app is bad don’t get it.Version: 20220429.220503.1

Good App but needs improvementsThe App is good however it does still have a few bugs that pop up every so often and sometimes does not always work when you need it too. Suffers from a few issues where it will not connect properly to add time and when you change something it sometimes does not update. On the way to a 4 out of 5 but needs more work from Microsoft team..Version: 2022.11.2

Minor Issues make it unusableI have had issues with the time range feature forever now. Have submitted feedback twice with no responses. The issue is, the time is exactly 33 minutes ahead of what is set. Also, it’s irritating that it only functions in intervals of 30 minutes. Would be much more useful to set an exact time..Version: 20220429.220517.6

SlowIt’s very slow to load and authorise more time.Version: 2022.11.2

Keeps resetting time limits and age restrictions. The app keeps resetting the limits and restrictions I have set for my son. The age restriction is a concern as the app will reset itself allowing my son access to inappropriate content..Version: 2023.08.31

Screen Time Limits are ImpossibleI downloaded the app solely to set time limits on games. I want to limit games to two hours a day total, and not limit apps like Netflix and Spotify as the whole family uses them. All you can change is the following for each day: The time limit e.g. 3 hours per day The time frame e.g. 12pm to 10pm Surely it could be implemented like on mobile devices to have apps or groups of apps with their own custom time limits per day..Version: 2023.12.14

Not fit for purposeMy son is able to play for longer that the time added which defeats the point of the timer!.Version: 20220429.220517.6

Not impressedThe old app was better. I could add money to my sons account, limit time on specific games, and it just seemed to have a lot more options. On this app I can’t do that and the old app was completely changed so now I have to go to some website to change the time allowed on my sons games. I give him a little extra time on weekends so it’s a pain to have to go through extra steps. I’d love the old app back, or combine the two to give us parents those options again..Version: 1.0

Was greatWe all know how apps work. They come out with an app with a few bugs, they’ve been fixed but than after awhile they decide to do some changes and then issues start to occur. At this point, all the settings work superb except the biggest issue is you cannot see how long your child has played for, even though you know they played for “x amount” of time. For months now, my children show 0 hours out of scheduled time. So now how are we supposed to really know the time line on how long they’ve played?.Version: 2022.11.2

Mind numbingly slowI use this because I have to, having 3 kids, but it is incredibly painful to use because of how slow it is, having to wait for an age at each screen for a button to enable, and then when you actually add time, very often it will time out when adding the time Being on mobile data or gigabit fibre doesn’t seem to make a difference either.Version: 2023.11.16

It is good but I need more features like pause/resume and adding hours for specific apps.It is good but I need more features like pause/resume and adding hours for specific apps. Both good and apple also provide parental controls but none of them is perfect..Version: 2022.11

Typical Microsoft!Never easy to use, doesnt come through with requests to parents. Only have lump sums of £10 even if you need to purchase £5. Glitchy, constant errors on car payments. Always the same 2nd class quality from Microsoft.Version: 1.3

Face-ID fails to device PINKids of most parents know the unlock PIN on their parents phone to make calls. So this app needs a mechanism to stop Kids changing their Xbox settings. Alas, when Face-ID on this App fails it reverts to the device PIN so kids can still get in 🙁.. it would be better to have a custom App PIN instead. Please consider urgently!.Version: 2023.12.14

Way worse than NintendoNeeds ability to lock all content except allowed apps or limit screen time on specific apps the same as Nintendo..Version: 1.9

Badly designed app with lots of bugsIt complains about needing an update despite being on the latest version. Adding money to a child's account is buggy. Its fails regularly with unknown error. Requests seem to get stuck. There is enough money on the childs account but it asks you to review to add even more. Like most Microsoft products they are of increasingly low quality..Version: 2022.11.2

Doesn’t work very wellMy biggest complaint is there is no way to clear old notifications. If my kids ask for time and someone else gives it to them on another device the notification stays locked in on mine They have a quick time option but it doesn’t work. Instead of working from the banner it opens the app and doesn’t award time.Version: 2023.12.14

Awful - complex and unintelligibleIt takes a degree to understand what it all means and the implications of the settings. The wording of the English barely makes sense and is ambiguous in many cases. Terrible..Version: 2023.05.2

Waaaaay to complicatedMicrosoft is very difficult I’m my dealings with it. My account is registered as a youth account with a parent and now that I’m old enough I can’t remove any of the blocks or parental settings.Version: 1.2

Read only settings, layout illogicalNavigating the app for content settings takes you to the same page three different ways, with no way to actually set anything. The app only shows you a subset of the available settings, and all of it is read only. Total waste of time..Version: 1.2.1

3 apps for 1 kid using 1 XboxI have 12 year old boy using 1 Xbox. No other widows devices at home. Using it requires an Xbox app, Xbox family, and Microsoft family. What’s worse is that giving him money using Xbox family regularly doesn’t work. I get charged but the money is not available for his use. It’s his allowance and so I need it to work easily every time. What a chaotic mess has Microsoft made that is not enticing me to purchase more windows devices..Version: 2024.2.12

Not intuitive, slow and doesn't workPoor app which does not allow easy control of screen time. Recent update has rendered all control lost V poor.Version: 20220429.220517.6

Irritatingly frustratingFirst I’d like to point out being a parent, I’ve never used or payed an Xbox, and yet I’m regretting ever purchasing one for my child. I thought this app would give me full control of content of games my child plays. They can only install games of their age group and yet my child says they can’t play a game because the content restrictions need to be reviewed. How can this be when the content was allowed for his age group using this app? In addition, there is no way of finding games they’ve already installed using this app? Trying to get things working is hugely 🤬 frustrating!! And don’t get me started on trying to use the 🤬 Xbox controller that’s also 🤬 mind boggling! Make this app more user friendly for non-gaming parents! and give us a 🤬 user manual so we can navigate the 🤬 thing!.Version: 20220204.220204.1

RubbishFamily settings in the original Xbox app were much better but they have disappeared since the latest update. There is no ability to adjust permitted time per game any more, only total daily screen time, and no ability to block games. Complete waste of time having this app, as I now have to go to the website to do the things I used to be able to do via the Xbox app. Rubbish..Version: 1.0

Doesn’t seem to work….It seems easy to set screen time limits, using the app on my phone, but this doesn’t play out on the console. The screen time usage works well - I can see that the kid can rack up 7 hours when I’m at work but they are only allocated 3 hours screen time limit…. Surely it shouldn’t be this hard? I’ve gone old school and now lock away game controllers to limit screen time..Version: 1.9

SecurityThere is no second factor security once you’re signed into the MFS app. This means if the kids get your phone they can open/select the app, go straight into settings and update their own configurations. Microsoft should require faceID or an extra PIN or something before game times etc settings can be changed… even if the organiser is signed into the app..Version: 2022.11.2

Add screen time feature needs workAs others have pointed out the mechanism to add extra screen time is not intuitive. Additionally you can’t add more time once you’ve given some extra time. For instance: I gave my son an extra hour. I’d like to add another fifteen but I can’t because he’s still got two mins let’s on the hour. Suboptimal..Version: 1.2.1

Why does my kid need an email to get an account here. The whole point of this is to control what kids get to on the box they don’t need an email. Why is everything about data collection. Exhausting..Version: 2022.11.2

Needs an update!Generally good BUT, and it’s a big one (for me at least), The Friends & Community Updates app on Xbox One does not appear on the app management list. Also, content displayed in public clubs within this app will not automatically moderated by the age restrictions applied (either in this app, the website version or the Xbox itself). This means inappropriate content can be seen even if all the settings suggest otherwise. Please fix!.Version: 1.9

Not ready. Keep tryingThe concept is good, but the execution is poor. Too many issues where you get the “Something went wrong. Please try again later.” message. Also, notifications require action. They can’t be deleted, only hidden. Some notifications I just want to delete..Version: 20220204.220204.1

Used to be good.Loved this app because I could remotely pause my sons Xbox. This ability has now gone and I don’t know why as it was the reason I got him an Xbox. Please bring it back..Version: 2023.05.2

Slow and frustratingVery slow to update. Not intuitive to use. Needs improvement..Version: 2023.12.14

Not loadingThis has been an issue for about a month now both on iPhone and iPad, why isn’t it fixed yet.Version: 2023.08.3

Screen time tracking doesn’t workI set my kids to be able to play 2 hours a day but it stops tracking or let’s them go over. I don’t rely completely on this AP to track their screen time but it’s annoying when the tools meant for this very purpose don’t work..Version: 2022.11

Adding screen time needs a fix.Every time I ‘add screen time’ for my child outside of their regular scheduled hours, the system still kicks them out and signs them off and requires me to sign them back in again. I think this is an extremely inconvenient flaw and don’t understand the point of being able to ask me for more screen time through the app if it is not allowing the child to stay signed in after time has been added. Please fix..Version: 2022.11.2

0/0Horrible app I can’t even accept requests everyone don’t download this app it is trash.Version: 1.9

Screen Time Limits NOT workingThis app used to be great. One of the recent app updates has broken screen time limits. Microsoft developers really need to fix this! *NOTE: This also seems to not be working when setting the limits from the Microsoft family safety website so maybe it’s the entire system and not just this app interface..Version: 2023.12.14
