WSJ Print Edition for Negative User Reviews

The newest release, September 2023I can’t say enough bad things about the iPad print version of the WSJ. I am, about to be was, a daily subscriber of the Journal for forty plus years. I loved it but the latest version has destroyed a daily pleasurable experience. I’ve tried and tried to find a way to read and navigate the new “1980’s attempt” print version but shortly get tired of moving around the “Paper”. Oh, the real newspaper is easier to read than this new digital version. Been there and moved on to the future, except for this giant step back. For now, I am borrowing my wife’s new iPad and reading it, she has the, old but better digital version. We disabled the automatic app update feature. Hopefully this will prevent the garbage print version from replacing it. So long as she has the four or so year old version we will keep our subscription. I asked her to try the the new print WSJ and after 30 or so minutes she took her iPad back. I received an email from Daniel Bernard, Chief Experience Officer WSJ telling me how to enjoy the new digital version and giving us a one month subscription credit. 😖 Good by old friend, I will miss you..Version: 3.6.24

Hate this app. Bring back old apps. Offline doesn’t downloadI hate what the Wall Street Journal has been doing to their iPad app, and to this application. I never used this print edition for years and was completely happy. Now, to get off-line additions you have to use this application. They do not automatically download 10 additions, even though I have it set that way. They have no way to know which edition has been downloaded and which hasn’t. I just downloaded 10 editions manually and watched it supposedly download only to get on a plane to be told the edition was not fully downloaded so I could not read the material. It is really disappointing that these changes have been thrust upon us so sloppily..Version: 3.9.09

Poor implementationOn iPad moving around the page snaps to a useless grid. Often reverts back to the first page. Selecting the “continued on page x” just takes you to that page, not the remaining part of the article..Version: 3.3.10

Good App but still has bugsAs a WSJ subscriber, I find it a bit annoying that the regular APP is not included in my subscription on a tablet. Weirdly, I get the regular APP on my IPhone but not the IPad. So rather than using the web based version, I have gone to this Print edition app instead. While it is good overall, it still has bugs. The print version presents the paper format on one side of the screen and a reading pane on the other side. What is supposed to happen, is that when you select an article from the print based version on one side of the screen, the article can be read on the other half of the screen. Unfortunately, MANY times the two sides don’t play well together. This often seems to on pages where there is a block of advertisement. You click on an article and see the advertisement as well and there is no way to bring the article itself into the reading portion of the App. The only way around it, is to enlarge the Print version and read it from there..Version: 1.1

Unpleasant blast from the pastI recently switched from using the printed app version of WSJ because the most recent "upgrade" of the non-printed app edition was so terrible, illogically presented and difficult to navigate. While the printed version is easy to navigate, some details do not download clearly, and sharing requires taking an ugly screenshot. Because it's a PDF format, one cannot touch on a word to obtain a definition, nor be directed from one article to another/related, or view related videos. To read a complete article one must scroll over to another page and find where it continues. It reminds me of using microfiche many years ago. The content of the articles meets what is expected from WSJ (without any app videos).Version: 3.6.24

Second RateOnce WSJ had a great app for viewing the paper’s stories via the iPad. Recently that was dropped and we are now left with this. Very difficult to navigate between stories. So sad..Version: 3.6.24

Hyphenation and Spelling Errors GaloreI have been a subscriber to the WSJ for iPad for many years and have always loved how easy I could navigate to the articles I wish to read. The most recent reincarnation of the electronic edition has taken some getting used to. It is nothing like the prior version. However, the thing that WSJ should find the simplest to correct are the e-edition’s problems with hyphenation and letters of another word jumbled in a preceding word. I must find at least 10 examples of hyphenated words in the middle of a line of text every day. The word jumbles are less common but there were two in yesterday’s edition. PLEASE FIX..Version: 3.9.09

Great content - unsatisfactury UXCompletely puzzled by the UX of your versions. The "new" one, simply fails as the text is literally unreadable in the single page view. It appears to be purposely designed to display it as low-res, with the only option to zoom in slightly to make it readable - why??! You guys are obverthinking your design. Readability is the goal here. Stop trying to be clever with your designs. Secondly, I want to use arrow keys to navigate down the page, and move to a new page. This you do in the new version, however the keyboard "beeps" evertime - why??!! I have to mute my computer to navigate. Can you just add arrow controls to the "Old" edition and call it a day. All I want to do is read the paper, not work around a goofy UI. View this as constructive crticism..Version: 3.9.09
