Gauss Field Looper for Positive User Reviews

Super intuitive and versatile field recorder!I’ll buy anything with a Hainbach endorsement and yet again I am not disappointed. There aren’t many functional apps for tapeheads so I am truly psyched about this! I just wanted to *echo* what another reviewer said about adding a visual waveform/sample info to the interface at some stage!.Version: 1.0

Great for iphoneAwesome little lofi effects sampler that mimics tape. pretty neat.Version: 2.0

Essential Creative ToolOne reason I love app on the iPad, are the non conventional ways you can compose music, in a tactile and fun way. Gauss hit the nail on the head with instant sound manipulation at your fingertips, as it you have a physical looper. The interface is ideal for anyone who instantly want to capture audio and become Halim El-Dabh or DeliaDerbyshire for an exploration into tape techniques. Also it works so well with other apps, within Audiobus or AUM as well as external recording of hardware (with iOS interface) Thank you for these tools. - King Britt.Version: 1.0

Love itThis is a great app though I agree with soniquest that a cut and splice feature would be a worthy addition. Another thing I would really like is for the loop to last much longer; several minutes rather than seconds..Version: 1.0

Loops of soup madnessThis is one of the most original loopers I have ever discovered. Imagine a tape loop of 10 machine straped around a block of flats and thats just a start point. If you love soundscapes this is for you. Equally if you are a dancehead then this offers new ryhmic possibilities..Version: 1.0

Loading fileUnique App. I (as with many) I have way too many Apps. Samplers galore. Gauss standing as a super experimental field recorder stands apart from the many create samplers out there. One thing Gauss is sorely missing ( and maybe I missed this option) is the capability to import your own pre recorded samples. Sure one can open it in Aum and route AudioShare to the App, but it would be nice to have an immediate load option to simplify the workflow. Broad midi implementation as well.Btw has anyone seen a tiny orange microdot to the far upper right. Given the sounds emitting from this thing microdot indeed..Version: 1.0

Awesome app!Crazy what can be done on a phone! Having a lot of fun with this but was just wondering if there could possibly be a feature implemented to count in when the recording begins, like the metronome on garageband. It’s great either way, but I would personally that feature extra convenient for seamless looping!.Version: 1.1.1

Pretty funPretty fun messing with the stock loops and recording simple things with iphone mic. I’d like to be able to import loops and samples, mangle them in Gauss and export them. Please add Audioshare for importing and exporting on the next update!.Version: 1.1.1

Happy customerBought a field recorder for iPhone which does make a difference in clarity if that’s what you want. Made some great dub techno style sounds. Very quick to make. All ready got 100’s of interesting sounds. Thanks a bunch it was just what I needed to give me the motivation to go on long walks..Version: 1.1.1

Creative looperTo the person that said the sonic quality is high fidelity - try recording a simple sine or triangle wave then look at a spectrum analyser (but you can also hear it). The plugin is adding distortion by default. Slow the loops down and you get a lot of artifacting. This is not a clean looper but it’s clear that it was designed that way. Functionally it’s nice to use and you can get some interesting rhythms with the sequencer. When you press stop on the record button it sets that as the length of the loop which is nice but as you can’t do this with overdub so any sustaining sound gets cut off so not so useful. When sync is enabled, in AUM it produces a click at the end of the loop (tested it with long pad sound), turn sync off and the loop plays cleanly..Version: 1.0

Where are the controls?I have two logos, tempo arrows, a preset menu and some loop import options lower left.... and that’s it. There’s a big empty space in the middle. Yes it’s started working correctly now and I’ve been enjoying it all day. Another brilliant unique instrument from BB. (And HAINBACH also).Version: 1.0

Truly inspirational. For me one of the best iOS apps for years. An amazing take on a pretty dried up genre. The triggered loops can be as funky as hell and slow multi-directional loops subtle and mesmerising. Wonderful..Version: 1.0

Great app. I just wish it was a plugin.I like this, but dealing with Apple’s walled garden when getting sounds in/out of my iPad is frustrating. I have a pretty killer recording setup but its all windows, so I have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get the audio onto my setup. This would be a killer VST3 plugin. I could see easily dropping $30 - $40 on this so I can run it in Ableton or Reaper. Imagine having multiple tracks of Gauss simultaneously running! Anyway its a great app its just feels like a toy because of the limitations of Apple’s ecosystem..Version: 1.1.1

Lacking AU3 save and exportGauss is an endlessly fascinating app. Wonderful for ambient composition, and sound track effects, but also capable of adding uniquely twisted sound to more melodic works. With a little awkward effort. Sadly, when placed in an FX slot under AUM for recording, there is no audio threshold setting and no way to save or export anything recorded. Other apps that occupy the AUM FX slot, such as the vastly more complex Loopy Pro, can record and export with ease. So why not Gauss?.Version: 2.0

Great actuallySorry! This is actually brilliant. I hated it, now I love it. Where are the factory/user presets in AU?.Version: 1.0

Works Great! Just one problem…This is an absolutely fantastic tape loop emulator. However whenever I plug my phone to an external output, the loops will either no longer play or the control interface just goes blank..Version: 1.1.2

Amazing and musical.Really really fun, and instantly musical. Definitely recommended! I have no complaints, but I do have a few feature requests: 1. I would love the ability to run multiple loops natively without using an audio unit host like AUM. I understand if it’s out of scope, but... would still be nice! :) 2. The ability to sequence it externally via midi would unlock some very fun things. Thinking a cc to change the main speed, reset to zero, and midi notes would change the relative speed. 3. If it could import audio files, that’d make it possible to work with existing field recordings Anyway! Great work!.Version: 1.0

Lost in Space*sigh* another 5-star review for a Bram Bos app. I’ll just say the reason I love Gauss so much is its simple elegance. Bram and Heinbach have crafted an instrument that really has just what you need and nothing extraneous. Really quick to dive in when inspiration strikes, and light enough to layer up multiple instances in AUM. Pair it with all your favorite apps, I like Koala Sampler and Kosmonaut..Version: 1.0

Absolutely love this appReally opens up a world of new possibilities!.Version: 1.0

Perfect for what I need!I realize this was just released but I’ve been looking for a VERY long time for something I could tinker with while I am at work or on the go. This is precisely what I needed. Field recording and tape loops, what’s not to love!! Awesome work guys!.Version: 1.0

FunInteresting app. Now that it works now the app is a lot of fun..Version: 1.0

I can’t wait to sample the world out sideThanks Hainbach and friends ! The sequencer/ looper thing is an awesome game changer! Peace Christo👽.Version: 1.1.1

One missing feature would make this a 5/5Gauss is an incredible plug-in. You should definitely buy it. But… Why isn’t monitoring on by default?? Multiple online reviews have mentioned how annoying it is to have to switch it on every time you want to use the plugin. On should be the default behaviour. Other than that, this is just awesome..Version: 2.0

BrilliantJust brilliant fun and easy to use and inspiring. Just the best..Version: 1.0

BoomAnother Bram Bos home run..Version: 1.1.1

Huge updateSample import makes this already great app 10x as great..Version: 2.0

Dusting off my tape machineReally great for creating atmospherics. Has a lovely feel-takes me back to the days working with tape. It’s inspired me to get the old tape machine out too! One thing I’d love - or maybe it is possible already - is to have fine adjustments for the tape loop section. The pitch/reverse don’t always increment in single digits, so slowing or speeding up to adjust the pitch to fit with my out of tune piano can be tricky! And if I’m being picky-would love to have the app fill the screen more to allow for bigger controls. A very useful and detailed app though. Keep up the great work!.Version: 1.1.1

Sonic dreamsAwesome app does everything you want from a looper and has a sequencer - which is super cool. Would like to see more tape years and types - like 1980, 69, wire tape etc and some control over the grunge. And would love an easy access button to where the sessions folder is. Love it!.Version: 1.1.1

Instantly in love.It feels like ages since inspiration has hit me like this. I should not be surprised. I suppose I am not, more so comfortably myself again. Bram Bos lightweight software to the rescue. I was just thinking about you Bram Bos. Thank you for the love. I needed this. A beautiful collaboration.Version: 1.0

Funky LooperThe app is perfect for all of your off kilter looping needs. You can do all sorts of transformations of your source audio from subtle to extreme. Nice straight forward GUI with all of the controls at your fingertips. Shape the sound frequencies and rhythms. You can record sessions as presets in the AU. Resampling the output of your Gauss sessions is great when you can have a source instance of Gauss followed by an effects chain and another instance of Gauss where you record the output. After creating the recording, save it as a preset and change the audio source Gauss to the preset you just saved and reset the instance of Gauss for recording again (I have a couple of presets for my fav recording setups). Experiment with iterations of this to get your creative juices flowing. The developer is in the process of exposing the transport AU parameters for even more MIDI based fun. I will be using this app a lot..Version: 1.0

Almost perfectReally creative and inspiring little looper, though the inability to load samples in to it is puzzling. When you click on “load a loop” you see demo loops you can play with, while the “user loops” section is blank. However I don’t see anywhere in the app where you can import sound files. I also tried navigating to the Gauss folder in my iPhone (using the files app) and adding MP3s to the “loop” folder, but that doesn’t make them appear in the app either. Hopefully this is something they add in the future..Version: 1.1.3

When Time Becomes A Reshapeable LoopAll I know is that this looper is going to get a lot of mileage on my iPad. It's the first looper that syncs up with my brainwaves...and reshapes it in so many psychoactive ways...wow...talk about sonic teleportation to the power of HB 🙏🏼💕🔥.Version: 1.0

Almost Perfect…As huge fan of music concrete and Eno’s early tape loop experiments I naturally gravitated towards this potentially amazing plugin, I say potentially because as of now, there’s no saving the buffer contents to Apple Files. (Plug-in mode) I would easily give this full stars if an update adds buffer saving!.Version: 1.1.2

Fun creative appBram Bos is a great developer so I was excited to see this collaboration with Hainbach. I’m loving this so far. There’s two things I might put on my wish list (quite unreasonably, given this is already pretty perfect) 1) It would be really cool to be able to cut a section from the tape loop and stick the rest back together. A virtual craft knife and glue please :) 2) Maybe some input compression. For field recording you can get an overwhelmingly loud environmental noise that unbalances all the nice other stuff you’ve recorded, perhaps some way of smoothing that out would be nice..Version: 1.0

It gets it rightTape/loop music has always been about discovery for me. We've had loopers for decades. We've had loopers in our pockets for years. This one is different where it counts: work flow. Within minutes of launching the app I was building loops, capturing performances, sharing the recordings, and walking around the house recording stuff like it was the first time again. You can touch you sounds. You can play with time. This app makes the capturing, manipulation, and utilization of sound a joy! Great app. If you get the concept of what this app suggests, you'll love this thing!.Version: 1.0

Love it! Two of my favorites come togetherFabulous. Deep. Love it. Feature request: more visual feedback of the waveform, during monitoring and looped playback. Looking forward to experimenting with it over the weekend!.Version: 1.0

Very useful sample manipulatorI'm still using this a lot, thanks for keeping it up to date and compatible with iOS.Version: 2.0

It’s great but missing one vital featureSuper creative looper, easy to use and works like a charm. Just one thing stops it from being perfect, well two. First up why can’t you sync the playback to your daw or host playback? If I have 2 or 3 loops I really want them to start and stop at the same time but Gauss doesn’t seem to allow that. It’s the one thing that stops me from using it. It would also be a bonus if you could trim your loop but that’s not a biggie, just would be a nice feature..Version: 2.0

You can get some really creative stuff going with this. The only things I would add/change is to have monitoring on in the default state. It’s the only effect that I have that cuts the audio signal by default when added to an audio chain. I would also like to see the ability to trigger recording when pressing play on the host..Version: 1.1.1

Half speed ist best speed. Warbly tape goodness.Herr Hainbach and Bram! Winning combination! The 1989 setting sounds like a broken dictaphone. I’m guessing that is intentional. My only gripe would be to be able to adjust the amount of crust on that setting. Otherwise a fantastic and intuitive app, Gents. Well done..Version: 1.0

Instant buy. So good get it!!This is an amazingly expressive app Straight to the top of my list Well done guys.Version: 1.0

A work of artThis is an astoundingly good app . Firstly the sonic quality of the loops it produces are for some reason, I don’t understand , rich in fidelity ...they sound tremendously good. It is also a very versatile sound shaping tool , so probably it will become an essential in many IOS musicians goto apps. Best Limbic 🦄🎶🎩👏👏🙏.Version: 1.0

Creative options! So much you can do with this!.Version: 1.1.3

Thanks for the wonderful tool Bram!I love Gauss it’s such an amazing app... the UI is also very beautiful, cheers on the amazing design in general. I do have one thing to say: I remember when Gauss launched, recording something inside of a host such as AUM and then lowering the tempo, would directly affect the playback speed of the recording. This is no longer the case! Recordings stay at the speed they were originally recorded even if the tempo changes. I can understand this being a personal preference, but I was of the impression that that was the intended behavior wasn’t it? That was fantastic! It made a lot of sense for the tempo to affect playback speed of the Gauss instances. I hope you can re-add this feature at least as an option in the future, I found it to be infinitely convenient so I am quite surprised to see it gone. Hopefully you’ll consider it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✔️.Version: 1.1.1

Beware of, but do not fear the feedbackUI is brilliant, nothing to get lost in but your own exploration. Well done, BramHain..Version: 1.0

It’s sweet!Great sounding effect and the developers are very responsive!.Version: 1.0

Awesome stand alone.. AU?Awesome app, only seems to work standalone for me. Already emailed the developer but wondering if anyone has come across this issue or found a fix. I can not get AUM (or Audiobus) to see it. It does not appear as an available AU or in inter app audio(IAA). Works beautifully standalone. Some things I tried/noticed that might help figure this out -I have tried restarting and reinstalling all apps involved (Gauss, AUM, Audiobus). - I have Ruismaker installed and it works fine in AUM -using an iPad 7th Gen and an iPhone 8+ both running iOS 14.2, both have the same issue..Version: 1.0
