(Not Boring) Weather for Negative User Reviews

I’m not paying for this!Looks ok, but not mind blowing as Apple suggest 😒 had to delete immediately after installation. Keeps telling me ‘you’ve x days left’ within the App, but isn’t listed as a ‘Subscription’ in my account; I can’t cancel it and can’t afford to be charged for it. GET ‘DARK SKY’, peoples! I’m sure this review will be deleted. Sorry, but I’m sticking with what I know (‘Dark Sky’, hugely accurate and looks great)!! 😒.Version: 1.20

Replacement for Dark Sky-notLike many Dark Sky fans I was looking for a replacement. This is not it. The description says for ages 4 and up. It might be useful for kids but not for adults. There’s no radar, no hourly info detailing precipitation or wind. To see the “forecast” for the next day you have to hold your finger on that day. You get a cute dancing graphic that gives you exactly the information you would get from a paper newspaper. Or from looking out your window. It certainly does not provide enough information to make outdoor plans, maybe enough to know if you need a hat 🤣. If you’re mourning the loss of Dark Sky this is not your answer. And certainly not worth a paid subscription.Version: 2.13

Looks like fun-no free trialI downloaded the app, the description said there is a 7 day free trial. When I opened the app it immediately put up the subscription page with no way to bypass to the free trial. The word skip is written in the upper right corner in very small grayed out letters. The free trial should be listed in the subscription field so it is easy to find. I deleted the app for this reason.Version: 1.15

Nice designsCool app but would be nice if I could use widgets without having to pay.Version: 3.17

All form and illegible functionI get the wow concept but you need a microscope to read data for each day in most free Skins. Monetized skins appears to have same issue - dedicating most of the screen space to least important information - design. Information hierarchy is much needed here and so is personalization. Let us organize the screen data and decide what info to give most real estate to. Thnx..Version: 2.13

Might buy if not a subSnazzy eye candy, but I suspect it might get boring quickly. I’m certainly not paying a subscription for a weather app!.Version: 1.12

Not freeAnother misleading app that pretends to be free and then tries to lock you in to a membership. The app store simply does not work anymy..Version: 1.13

Should outright say it is a paid appI get that the app is amazing and it does what other weather apps can't do. But a subscription service? For information that's available free everywhere? If it was a one time purchase then yeah sure... But it gives false pretence of a free app while actually being a paid app. And can't even see what the app will provide because subscription comes up before I can even try..Version: 2.4

Nope. After this most recent “widget update”, I went from having full access to them (since I bought the app) to them now being locked behind another paywall. Sure, apps like this have operating costs, but when you compare it to a weather app like CARROT, this one just doesn’t make sense to purchase. And from my perspective this kind of action doesn’t warrant further support from me financially..Version: 3.4

Ruined nowThis app was perfect before the recent update. Now you can no longer have it as a widget without a subscription. This is quite disappointing as that was my reason for getting it. It looked really great on the Home Screen but now I no longer have use for it and will be going back to the standard app..Version: 3.7

Update blocked widgetCompany needs to set up a price for the widget not a subscription..Version: 3.8

MehSubscriptions could be justified for weather apps but I don’t know what the dev is sniffing making subscription timer and calculator apps with fancy 3D ‘Microsoft WordArt’ graphics. Not worth paying for any of it..Version: 1.15

It was working fine until…Gorgeous and fun weather application. The surprise subscription is what threw me off. I get it, you want to make your money for the continued work you put into it. I just think it should have been up front. I was wondering why it wouldn’t show the weather and I come to read reviews and see why. I’ll uninstall and maybe keep an eye on it and see what changes..Version: 3.8

Takes 5 secs to startup to appEvery time you want to check the weather, start a timer, you first have to sit through 5 seconds of the company logo. Sounds like not an issue, but this is an example of form over function. If I just wanted to know the weather, I could open Apple’s app and instantly see, then switch apps. But if I wanted to do that here, it’s that little extra wait every time. So I had to delete. 🤷🏻‍♂️.Version: 2.11

No wayThere is no way that I’m going to pay for this app, there is much better than this app.Version: 3.8

DisappointingJust another money grabbing app.Version: 1.16

Waste of moneyIt's ridiculous that they charge so much for this app. It's a dumbed down version of a weather app. Nowhere near the data of free apps. Glad o didn't purchase the yearly subscription. If you are so bored and have nothing better to do than spin the temperature, this app is for you. They make it sound like it's something fun but it's not. It's just a 3D image you can spin. They don't give you a trial option because they know you would never pay the money once you tried it..Version: 3.8

Too bad it’s yet another subscriptionWho can afford a subscription for nearly every app you want to use? It adds up fast. I’d rather suffer through ads (some) or pay a one time fee. Even pay a mother fee after so many versions just to stay up to date. But $2 a month over here, $1 monthly there, $4 over here, and so on. Pretty soon your shelling out $30 an month. No thanks. This one is a little on the high side for me..Version: 2.13

Tut TutWould gladly pay a one off fee but never encourage a monthly subscription so will revert back to other apps available..Version: 1.20

Overall Good StartI like the interface and the look of the apps. The widgets are also good. However I get most of my weather info from my watch, it would be better if there was a Apple Watch app and a complication for the screen. I will probably cancel the trial until the Apple Watch tie comes as it is a pain to have multiple interfaces with conflicting info..Version: 1.1

(Not so) FreeDon’t bother. The app won’t run until you subscribe to a “free” one week trial. You’re then supposed to cancel it after a week. What if you forget? I loved the idea behind these apps until the sheer greed was apparent on install. What was the app like to use you ask? I can’t tell you that, because I decided not to pay for a “free” app. Looks like I’ll be sticking with my current one. Ya..Version: 1.1

Good weather widget - can improveI downloaded this for the clean weather widget. In the app there is a 7 day forecast which should be available as widget. Please make this happen. Cheers.Version: 2.1

DONT GET IT…unless your happy with spending money on just a new look to an app..Version: 1.20

Dark UXFree apps. A cute “choose your path” screen. The fine print? One “path” is a $25/year subscription and the other is $15/year. The $25 is, by default, already selected for you. Makes me furious. Don’t list your apps as free if they are not. This is dark UX and is not good for humankind..Version: 1.4

CConfusing.Version: 3.17

I like it butI love hoy you can see like the weather but all the things are so expensive and I’m notallowed to buy stuff because I am saving up soon.Version: 3.17

No, I don’t want to pay a subscription for widgets.I really love this apps style and widgets, which is why it’s so disappointing that widgets are now locked behind a subscription in the latest update ( previously they worked without a subscription ). Would I pay a small one time fee for the widgets and extra features? Absolutely. I really do like this app. However I am not willing to pay a subscription, no matter how cheap, for something that offers the same functionality of the iOS weather widget..Version: 3.4

Data sources uselessCheap predictions ( open weather ) all looks, data sources not local. Basic job is to predict the weather and fails to do so..Version: 2.4

Forced free trialThere is no ‘free’ option. You have to sign up for a 1 week free trial and then make a decision on whether to subscribe to it or delete it. I have no idea if the app automatically ticks over to a subscription or if it blocks access until you pay… I deleted it as soon as I saw it was asking me to sign up. Nope..Version: 1.20

Needs a subscription - deletedWhat is it with lots of apps demanding a rip off subscription these days?.Version: 1.16

Great but ..Expensive and a bit misleading it looks as if all three apps are £14 but aren’t however the design and function of the weather app is great just needs more weather sources.Version: 1.12

Subscription? For weather? No way!It was a waste f time downloading. No option to purchase the app, but they’re quite happy to take almost £15 a year from you for a weather app. I can not support this kind of practice. The developer wrote to me, justifying the price using the argument that weather data isn’t free to them -while there is some truth to this, the excuse loses so much merit when their Calculator and Timer apps do not rely on a 3rd part subscription on their part for math and for timekeeping -and yet they still feel you should pay a ridiculous amount to rent the app. I have purchased so many apps from developers who update their apps continually at no additional cost -occasionally they make a major change and you buy a new version if you wish. There’s a reason for this: it’s because the apps are timeless and new users keep buying them. Subscription models will be unsustainable at this rate. People will be renting every minute detail of their online lives if they support this type of practice..Version: 2.4

Waste of iPad spaceThe have so much space on an iPad display but use it very poorly. When looking to get more detailed information than the main screen, the texts is so small that it is almost useless. Good starting concept but poor development of product and very poor customer support. In that regard that just send a template of thanks for the suggestion and it is easy to tell no thought was put into the suggestion or reply..Version: 2.14

MixedAesthetically one of my favorite weather apps. I liked the appearance so much I decided to use the widget. Unfortunately, the widget is buggy and after initially working, it eventually goes blank. The only solution I’ve found is to restart my device, but that’s not much of a solution. Especially since this blank widget crash seems to be happening with more and more frequency..Version: 3.4

Tried so hard to careDevs asked another reviewer for a more fun app — Weather Fit. Fun and practical. I have a reason to use WF over stock options, and using something daily helps justify the use of subscription over one-time purchases. Not Boring apps are undeniably cool, but the effort it takes to figure out how to actually want to use them regularly makes the subscription feel twice as expensive. Do the devs use their own apps daily? Or do they fall back onto stock options when they need speed, convenience, or even familiarity? I would guess the latter; this app is an excellent concept, but just hasn’t risen above “concept” yet. Maybe I’d feel differently if shelling out $40+ for the subscription and custom skins that reduce legibility meant nothing to me..Version: 2.4

Needs multiple locationsNot being able to have multiple locations severely limits the use of this app. If I just need the weather where I am in the moment, I can look outside..Version: 2.4

Entertaining butGood display for current conditions. Less easy to see future conditions - slide bar too small..Version: 2.14

Misleading app.You presume you get what you see but you don’t. App automatically signs you up to £1.79 per month after 1 week trial. Now I don’t know how to stop this. You don’t get skins they are an extra £8!! Expensive and misleading and for paying monthly you should get the skins. I’ll stick with my free weather app..Version: 1.15

Brilliant… butFantastic layout. Fantastic that you’ve listened to the reviewers and given a weeks trial. But subscription to a weather app? … a one off payment of £2 or £3 and you’ve got me. But £1.79 a month? I’m out..Version: 1.15

Dancing on the edge...Of total scam. App does nothing -nothing at all- until you subscribe. Yes, they “allow” a short trial before absconding with a fairly large (in context of a simple weather app) amount of your hard-earned money. Business model: offer a trial before offering even a glimpse of functionality, and hope enough people forget/fail to cancel the trial before they are charged..Version: 1.4

No freeze warningThis app only shows the high temp for the coming week. We are getting freezing temps and this app has no way of informing me. Pretty but useless. EDIT: Where does it show 7-day low temps? I tried all weather sources and tried tapping/dragging everywhere in the app. Even your FAQ and screenshots only show high temps for the 7-day forecast. You can only see low temp for the current day..Version: 2.10

Why the subscription?Slick looking but not efficient for navigating beyond the current weather conditions. I found my self using Apples weather app over this, daily. I would pay a few bucks to have the cool graphics unlocked but I say a big no to a monthly price. Unfortunately, this one gets deleted from my phone no as it’s cost prohibitive..Version: 2.14

Needs a look in the mirrorI loved using this app and I think it has a lot of potential in providing great design to my iPhones app screen but suddenly putting widgets behind a subscription paywall has deflated this app for me. I had spent money on one of the artists designs and loved that it was part of my screen but a basic feature of an iPhone app shouldn’t be behind a monthly pay wall. Short sighted greed that undercuts any potential this app truly had..Version: 2.8

Changed to Paywall for WidgetsTurns out the “widget updates” in version 3.6 was just moving all the widgets behind a paywall. I very much liked having this app as my Home Screen widget, the design is beautiful, but asking $15 for just the widgets is not worth it. $5 I could see but not $15 when it’s just for the design; the functionality is nothing different than a host of other apps. Shame. Other note: It’s slow to update the weather sometimes on the widgets (you have to click into it to update sometimes). Worth noting if you’re planning on spending..Version: 3.7

Great app, bad pricing. This has to be one of the best-designed apps I have ever seen. Seriously. I love interacting with all the UI elements. The app, like its title says, is truly not boring. Additionally, it doesn’t skimp on functionality and has all the features you’d expect of a weather app. However, all of this good stuff is locked behind a subscription ($2 monthly and $15 yearly for the basic level, and $70 yearly for the premium level), That’s not even mentioning all the paid skins that are not included in the subscription. I’m happy to support developers, but I’d rather spend a little bit more on a one-time purchase rather than an indefinite subscription. This may be an amazing app, but it’s killed off by the subscription..Version: 1.20

A FarceThe app does literally *nothing* until you subscribe. Uhh, nope..Version: 1.1

A subscription for a weather app? Seriously? These outrageous tech trends are getting out of hand..Version: 1.12

RubishAbsolute crap app. Very very basic. Not accurate at all. Delegated it after 5 minutes..Version: 1.15

Beautiful but uselessI really want to love this app as the creator has tried something fresh and different. But go all in and there’s a £70 subscription, which is steep even if it does bundle in two other apps. For this I want detailed weather information - perhaps not to the extent of WeatherPro but at least Dark Sky. But this app just provides the detail for now and a few hours into the future. If I want to know what the weather will be like in a couple of days, it just shows me a temperature and ‘sun’ or ‘rain’ with no detail of how the weather will vary during the day. I’d say this is a basic requirement for any weather app..Version: 1.1

Not Boring Not AccurateI’m sitting in my living room looking out the window at the cloudy, dreary weather. Although Not Boring Weather says that it’s bright and sunny outside. This is a very common occurrence. The app also gets the temperature wrong a lot of the time. I like the graphics but unfortunately, with a most of the graphics, you can’t clearly see what the numbers say, it might look cool, but that useless if you can’t tell what the numbers are. Unreliable..Version: 2.14

Fantastic app, but no thanks! The design of the app is amazing! Hands down, one of the best looking and clever weather apps available. I’m sorry to see, however, that the developers (like so many others) have jumped on the subscription-based bandwagon. It’s impossible to purchase an app anymore! Everything is $1, $2, $5, $10 a month - from movies to music to news to weather apps… everything is a monthly payment. I don’t know if users don’t notice or don’t care, but IT ADDS UP! So, congrats to the developers, but I’m out. If you ever decide to offer your product at a reasonable price ($10 seems fair for a weather app), I’ll be back. For now, though, I unfortunately have to delete the app..Version: 1.20

It was such a cool app 😞This app is so sleek and minimalist and I used the widgets on my Home Screen but after a few weeks it said subscription needed which I do understand but please could you make at least the widgets free because I’m not prepared to spend money on a Weather App🤨, other than that the app is layer out nicely but still the widgets☹️.Version: 2.10

Just not for meLooks like a beautiful app (can’t tell since youare immediately asked to choose a paid subscription) but just not for me. Love that no data is being collected. Weather info is expensive, so I don’t think the price is unreasonable either. But hard to know if it has the features of Dark sky or Carrot to warrant a switch..Version: 1.14
